I have eaten here twice, to make sure that I could really get an idea of how consistent things are there. Each time, the food was fantastic. The waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Service was not exceptionally fast, but it was during the lunch rush, and they make everything to order, so I give them a pass on a moderate (by no means long or uncomfortable) wait time. In general, the food is very flavorful and interesting without being over-seasoned or overcomplicated. I highly recommend the Portabella sandwich with sweet potato fries and their homemade (slightly sweet) dipping sauce on the side. The Chicken sandwich is another great, and like all of their fare, very customizable option; I get it in a wrap, sans pickles, with pepper jack cheese and sautéed mushrooms). Finally, the Onion ring stack is absolutely to die for. The Cellar really has struck an amazing chord, so to speak, with their unique dining experience. Absolutely worth the drive from somewhere like Rome, Adairsville, or Atlanta. Can't wait to come back.

Fantastic restaurant! First time to visit and had a very pleasant evening. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. The environment is low lighting with tables all around. Great for a cocktail or meal. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and it was superb! Reasonable menu items and good drinks! Wonderful experience!

City Cellar was one of two local restaurants recommended as "local favorites" by the customer I was visiting in Cartersville. I read reviews and decided it seemed to fit my budget better than did the other (slightly pricier) recommendation. From the moment I walked in I enjoyed my experience. I was welcomed as I walked down the stairs into an adorable basement level restaurant and bar. When my server (Dallas) found out I had not been there before he sat down and went over the menu with me and offered suggestions. I opted for the Shrimp and Grits and loved every single bite of it!!! There is a block of deep fried grits hiding under a pile of sausage, shrimp, peppers, green onions and yummy sauce. The crispy edges of the grit cake were absolutely the best part. In addition to my server making sure that my food was perfect, the owner (Bob) stopped at my table to chat and check on my experience as well. Since I was by myself I didn't get a chance to try many of the menu items, but based on my first trip to the City Cellar I would return again. I might even try something other than the shrimp and grits, though it would be hard to stray from something so wonderful.

Holy fried green tomatoes and calamari! Ah-maze balls. There is this Bob fellow, I guess he owns the joint; friendly gentleman and he has a beer named after him! The place has a nice ambiance and great food. Definitely will come here again.
(5)Stephanie S.
Loved this place! Different food with excellent friendly service and cozy atmosphere. Will definitely come back. Had the Cellar portobello sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was delicious!
(5)Kent K.
The service was good - the shrimp and grits; AMAZING!!!
(4)Robin W.
Great service and excellent food. Can't wait to go back and try a new dish.
(5)Amy T.
This was a quaint restaurant with excellent food and beer! Get the shrimp and grits and you'll be happy!!

My boyfriend and I tried City Cellar for the first time tonight, and we both thought the food was fantastic. I had the portobello sandwich, and it was very tasty. I was most excited about the buttermilk pie, though, and I was not disappointed. Buttermilk pie is something you don't see on many restaurant menus, so I was pleasantly surprised. The service was decent, although it took slightly too long to get a refill on my drink, but this is the only negative I have to say about our experience. We will be back!

Good good food. Full bar. Very friendly staff. Staff anticipates needs beforehand. Owner greets everyone if he's there. Simple winelist, average beer selection, full bar, nice appetizer selection, great menu items. Had the fried green tomato BLT. Lots of Bacon... yum! Big portions. Always heard good things about the food. After looking at the menu I can see why. I would def come here again.

Nice place with some friendly regulars. Took the family here when they were in town just to try something new. Atmosphere is pretty cool, underneath an old building with the exposed timbers. I would consider it upscale bar food meats redneck locals, but very nice redneck locals. They all were nice and chatty after having a few drinks at the bar. Laughed at my kids and more brothers kid. Food overall was decent, somethings sticking out better than others. 1. Fried Green Tomato tower: VERY GOOD. Comes with a basil mayonnaise dressing and were very well done. 2. Vidalia onion soup: decent, just their take on French Onion with Georgia onions 3. Fish and Chips: Average. Oil was not hot enough as there was far too much grease and the breading did not really add anything to the fish. Tartar sauce was good though and I don't really ever like tartar sauce as I just prefer malt vinegar. 4. Sweet potato fries: a little overdone but good, what was awful was the cinnamon dipping sauce they served it up with, it was like eating a cinnamon roll. I think if they got consistent with their food, and raised it up a couple of notches it would get a 4th star, but overall not bad at all. Wouldn't complain if a friend asked me go there to eat but won't necessarily search it out and/or become a regular.

My favorite restaurant and drinking establishment in Cartersville. Never been disappointed with a dish. Always treated with respect.
(5)Karl L.
Maybe a 4.2... Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. Several tables around a bar area, but I still felt comfortable bringing in my kids. Live music was setting up as we prepared to leave on a Saturday evening. If I was local i would be here frequently. The shrimp and grits was the best by far. I has the lobster papparadelle, a special for the evening, also very good. Fish and chips were beyond the norm, and the mojo chicken was much better than average. What to complain about??? I sent back my top shelf margarita for a redo. It was almost all mix. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful, but inexperienced. We met Bob, the owner, who took an interest in making my kids at home and is genuinely interested in you having a pleasant experience. Oh! Under priced. Drastically. We would drive to Tampa (when at home) and pay half again this much. No problem. We almost were talked into going someplace else by the staff at the campground where we parked the RV. Had I missed out on this place I would have been angry.

This is a great place to go for dinner or for drinks. It's a restaurant in the loft and a bar in the cellar. Both are excellent. They carry blue moon on tap which isn't common in a town full of bud drinkers. They serve great food whether you're getting dinner, some fried pickles, or some dessert. It's locally owned and most nights you can have a chat with him while he works. Servers Adam and Kellie are excellent and very personable. A great alternative to tired Appalachian Grill.
(4)Shane M.
Great service and atmosphere. Live Jazz on Thursday nights. I Ordered the shrimp n grits and it was amazing! Wishing I lived closer to this place. Reason it got five stars instead of four is because they actually had Fat Tire on draft. Great place to spend an evening at.

There were several good reviews for this place, so looking for a new place to try, we decided to go here. I would like to clarify all reviews. Because I would never rate this in the positive, in any way, shape, or form. First of all, the only seating available were some high top tables next to a pool table upstairs. Apparently, the downstairs area is closed on Sundays. "The only thing we are out of is potatoes and the pasta." ok, no big deal. But they are also out of Fried pickles, soup, and something else...I can't remember the other thing we thought we might try, but were out of. There is just too much to count. "Can we order a drink?" SERIOUSLY? Do you have to ask your server to take your drink order? Once we sat with our drinks (he had to go downstairs to get some iced tea?!?) for about 10 minutes before we (you guessed it) ASKED if we could order the nachos. Fifteen minutes later, we are told that they only have one cook and he is busy preparing food for a table of five, so it will be a minute. So we ASKED (how did you know???) if we could order food. Less than 2 minutes later, the cook (or someone) brings out our nachos and explains that the first batch was burnt. Um, what? I thought they hadn't even been started yet? And how exactly do you burn nachos? After about 25 minutes, the cook or whoever comes out to explain that two of our entrees were done, but the third was not. What would you like us to do? How about your job??? So they bring out the two meals that were done and again, less than two minutes later, the third arrives. This is getting seriously weird. Our waiter all but disappears, with the cook or whoever guy taking care of us for the rest of the meal. After we paid (two separate checks was indeed a little difficult for comprehension), we walked out and saw the cook guy and our waiter sitting out front with a bunch of friends smoking. Is that what took so long? To sum up, one iced tea, two sodas, an appetizer order of nachos, and three entrees of what is basically bar food took us over 90 minutes to order, receive, and eat. I don't think we will be back anytime soon.

Any place gets 5 stars, in my book , where you have FANTASTIC food, great wait staff, relaxed atmosphere, and a very attentive owner,( Thanks Bob ). Have dined here half a dozen times and the food has rocked every time. We are truly blessed !
(5)William M.
Nice warm pub/bar atmosphere. Good food. Good friendly service. Owner always speaks to everyone.
(4)Michael B.
Quaint good clean fun
(3)Jackie C.
Service was good and friendly their salad with the meal was really good no Iceberg lettuce. It was mixed greens. The Green Fried tomatoes good and cut thick so they didn't fall apart. Ate the steak bistro sandwich very good, different. Prime rib was like butter. Mushroom cream soup yummy although a little salty. Will be back took dessert to go so stay tuned. The fourth star was for the service waitress and hostess vey friendly and owner came by I think it was the owner. Well dessert was ok but that's not why I went there anyway, will go back, nice place close to home.
(4)Adam J.
Was expecting great things based on the reviews. The menu wasn't any thing special. I will say the fish and chips was really good. The fried green tomato BLT missed the mark, not much bacon. The price is fine. Doubt that I will return.
(3)Erik L.
Gastropub is not an accurate description, however it is a step above average bar food. Been open for 6 months, still don't have the combination bar restaurant night spot concept down, but the food is good. Much of the wait staff is recycled from previous places. I have a sentimental attachment to the location, the previous place McVoreehns had pub/dive down to a T but little things like paying taxes screwed that up. If your looking for good food with an odd beer it ain't bad. The food is the real draw. The beer selection could use some serious thinking and a ditching of generic names for some things. Seriously they could do much better on the beer and the happy hour specials. Oh avoid the train shots.
(4)Jozen O.
One of the best ribeye stakes I've had! Great service from a very friendly staff. Matt the bartender will not let you down!

Went for lunch the other day based on the Yelp reviews. Parking was a bit of a pain, but we waited for someone walking out and snagged their spot. Walked in and understood where the name came from as we immediately had to walk down some stairs to enter the restaurant. Very open space, nice bar, were asked to seat ourselves. The wife got the soup du jour (seafood chowder) and Cellar salad and thoroughly enjoyed both. I got the steak sandwich and found it to be very tasty and the meat to be exceptionally tender (compared to most steak sandwiches I've had). The sandwich was supposed to come with a basil mayo...I despise mayo so asked if they happened to have any horseradish or a horseradish sauce. I was surprised and impressed that they had a horseradish cream and it was fantastic on the sandwich. The house chips were also very good. We'll definitely return and would like to check it out during a weekend evening as this place has all the makings of a great watering hole.
(4)Howard B.
nice surprise first time here. nice bar and generous pour. food was freshly made to order and portions a plenty. server very sweet and customers seemed to know this place..lots of regulars. seared tuna was cooked to perfection my wife steak was tender and delicious. side choice of soup or salad. i had the tomato bisque...excellent. will be back.
(4)V R.
Ambiance great, fit there just before evening rush of people. Server nonchalant but got the job done. I had shrimp and grits. Good but creole sauce heavy and salty. I found my way to the grits and just had alittle bit of sauce to compliment the grits and shrimp. Salads were great as the did use iceberg lettuce. Fresh and cold.
(4)Teresa L.
We had lunch here today. This is a really cool underground restaurant/bar with a fireplace and a ginormous bar. We ordered creamy tomato basil soup and we shared an order of fish and chips. The soup was a little cold, but it was so delicious. It was loaded with chunky tomatoes and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. The fish was perfectly fried in a tempura batter and the french fries were great. The bathrooms were very clean and nice. Service was exceptional and the guy who brought our food was very entertaining. Our server was so sweet and helpful.
(5)Melissa A.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Only down fall is there is stairs to get down to the resturant with no other entrance or accommodation.
(4)Joe V.
Starter with calamari - Asian flare and a little kick. Cellar salad with grilled salmon was fresh and delicious. We also had a order of fried green tomato BLT- a great southern classic beautifully executed. Our server was timely and sweet - defintely will go back !
(5)Steven K.
This place is great! What an atmosphere and a very interested owner/manager who is very pleasant. We both had the steak sandwich (med rare) and it came out perfect! Very fairly priced. Our only downside were the onion ring side orders that had a good flavor but heavy on the batter and a bit greasy. We will go back!!!
(5)Christy M.
Can't begin to tell you how many times I've been to The Cellar! Bob and his staff are awesome! Great service and phenomenal food! A great place for a burger and beer!
(5)Cheryl P.
Absoloutly loved this place so much that we will plan to come stay at Red Top Mountain State Park and dine here each time we pull our trailer and boat to Florida each winter to and fro! The owner stopped by the table to ask our opinion on the place and food! That speaks volumes! And btw: IT WAS DELICIOUS!
(5)Ingrid H.
Loved this place. Met a friend for lunch here. We had sandwiches.. portobello and the philly.. both were yummy. The waitress was super friendly, even when we kept her booth tied up for about 2 hours chit chatting over drinks. The Bloody Mary was great!!! The interior is a little dark, but has a great neighborhood bar vibe.
(5)Paul L.
The cowboy burger and the cellar salad were outstanding. The Caesar salad wrap is also a great recommendation.
(5)Beth T.
Matt and Joey always take such good care of us at the bar and the food is so very good! I'm from the Carolina Lowcountry, and these are the best Shrimp n Grits I have ever had! This is a great place to meet n greet as well as a nice dinner out. Great steaks, salad, and specials. You will leave happy!
(5)Jacob H.
The City Cellar was a place I never drifted to growing up here. Probably because of the location & name. Someone said it was the best restaurant in town, so we decided to try it out about 6 months ago. Now we are regulars. I normally get whatever is on special. But you can not go wrong with their Fish & Chips. It's plenty of food, a lot of fish, and cheap.
(5)Kirk F.
Ate here at lunch back in March when I brought a group of seniors to visit the Booth Museum in Cartersville. Loved their Friday lunch special shrimp & grits. Back today with my seniors on a trip to the Tellus Science Museum and our folks loved City Cellar so much we came back for lunch. Great vibe, great service and the food is great. Had the fried green tomatoes for an app and fish & chips this time. Friendly owner behind the bar made sure we had everything we need. If you are looking for a good lunch or just a place in the evening to gab a drink, the City Cellar won't disappoint.
(5)Cliff C.
This is by far the best and most fresh food you can find in Cartersville. If this place was in Atlanta it would be packed from open until close. You can't go wrong with the peach glazed salmon.
(5)Sara A.
I have visited twice for lunch and really enjoyed it. The service is attentive and friendly. The food is tasty, cooked to order, and created with fresh ingredients. The ambiance is cool and feels like a speakeasy. Menu standouts: Fried Green Tomato BLT, Strawberry & Spinach Salad, Fish and Chips, and Chicken Club.
(4)Jameka S.
Very good food and service. The portions were big for the price and the atmosphere was nice. The only problem was my husbands steak was not cooked how he ordered it. The owner and wait staff were very friendly. We will definitely go again.
(4)Cabinhouse N.
This is an amazing place to visit! Such yummy food!!! Thank you April, William, Joey, Matt, Cody ( our cook) yall were amazing!!!!
(5)Danielle F.
Fried Green Tomaaahhhhtooes- so good! Great comfort food, great service. Am definitely going to drive up from Atlanta for those fried green tomatoes!
(5)Lindsay S.
I travel for a living and love finding theses hidden gem type places. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was by FAR the best I've ever had.. Even my meat and potatoes eating boyfriend was blown away. Great beer selection. The sweetwater 420 (which is local to Georgia) was delicious. The veggie burger was awesome. The atmosphere was cozy and fun. Courtney at the bar was so helpful and very nice. She answered all our questions with ease. All around amazing experience. Definitely will come back next time we're in town
(5)Jamie K.
The most awesome atmosphere and food is high end of delicious. This is only my second time here but will be making it more of my dining routine.
(5)V K.
Looks like a bar, feels like dinner at a friend's house. Stopped by after a quick search on yelp for something "not fast food" near the interstate- delicious food (including kids menu items), great service, very friendly staff!!! My 5 year old loved the fact that we were there late enough to see a live musical performance. :) *Kid's Mac&cheese - linguine noodles w/ a real cheese sauce, not Kraft. -awesome. *portabello mushroom sandwich - balsamic glaze, spinach leaves, feta cheese- awesome. *cellar fish sandwich- perfectly fried, with homemade coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce - awesome. *shrimp and grits- fried grit cake(think cornbread crust w/grits inside) with shrimp, andouille, and a ridiculously good buttery cream sauce on top of it- at $19 it was more than twice as expensive as the others, but it was also twice as awesome!!! -I hate that I can't see myself traveling this particular route again anytime soon, but whenever I do, I'll definitely stop to eat here again. *

Found this hidden gem through Google. I needed a place to take a friend for a lunch. She lives in Cartersville and I live in East Cobb. I had to take off my sunglasses on entering. It's a little dark...very pubby ambience. Be careful, the stairs that take you down to the restaurant/bar are very close to the entry. Honestly, my expectations weren't too high. Wow! First, we got lucky and the nighttime bartender was our server. Matt was great...friendly, attentive, and when I asked if the restaurant had a full bar, he assured me he could make anything I wanted. I ordered a Moscow Mule. Not only was it perfectly made, gingery and cool, it was served in a copper mug just as it should have been! Impressive! And the food was good, too! A deliciously prepared hamburger for my friend and a wedge salad with perfect feta creamy dressing. Thanks, Matt, for an enjoyable birthday luncheon.
(4)Gary J.
This is a really cool place to end up after exploring Cartersville. The food is very good and the owner does his best to greet everyone and make sure that they're enjoying themselves. He even tries to perk up his staff as they pass by. I will definitely go back and take friends.

Tonight was my 2nd time visiting the Cellar. I live in downtown, so it's not often I make the haul. Talk about great food! I had the shrimp & grits, my husband had the fried green tomato sandwich, my dad had the steak & my 10 month old had the Mac & cheese. The first time I had the shrimp & grits it was different (but very good) & this time it was in a sort of baked square. I was thinking it would come in a bowl, but when I tried it. Amazing. Large shrimp, lots of grits and good seasoning! The fried green tomato sandwich was a winner as well. I love the idea of switching up a BLT for fried green tomatoes! And who can resist sweet potato fries??? Dad loved his steak and my son ate 2/3rds of his Mac and cheese (and he must be hiding it in his big toe lol) Our server was super nice & knowledgeable. Wasn't too on top of our table, but we never had to wait for another beer. $1shots when the train comes around is fun and the atmosphere makes you feel
(5)Alby M.
Enjoyed good food and a good selection of beer. So much better than any chain restaurant. Keep up the good work guys!
(4)David L.
I love the Cellar! The big bar feels like I am walking into an episode of Cheers. However, I always go there to eat with my wife and we generally gravitate to one of the cozy booths. Great salads and specialty meals at reasonable prices. Service is good and there is ample parking right by the front door. If you are looking for a fun atmosphere with fresh food that doesn't taste like it came out of a box/microwave, give the Cellar a try!
(5)Robert F.
Went to the City Cellar today and had the shrimp and grits with a wonderful sauce. A salad and a draft beer make it complete. Food was great and the service was excellent. -Robert
(5)L B.
I visited city cellar with my family in from out of town. The serving were large and every dish the group got was great. Everyone tried everyone else's dishes and all agreed that there was not an item unliked. Service was attentive and food came quickly. Definitely going back.
(5)Edward W.
This is your Cheers bar in Cartersville, where everybody knows your name. Friendly service. Good casual food. RIght next to the railroad tracks.
(4)David Z.
Had an hour to kill in town so we decided to stop in for a beer. What a surprise when we tasted some of the best pub food I've had. Potato nachos to start and an awesome fried green tomato BLT. Friendly staff and cold beer to boot. Can't wait to get back!!
(5)Terri Z.
Great spot! Went here right after a game at lake point sports complex and came back two more times. Friendly service, clean and amazing food. Gotta check it out. Favorites were the potato nachos, bistro steak sandwich and fried green tomatoes BLT.
(5)Tyson J.
Great friendly place. Neat building and great food. Check out the southern specialties on the menu, they will not disappoint. The owner even greeted us at our seats and thanked is when we left.
(5)Pam B.
While driving to Florida from Michigan, we spent the night along I75 in Cartersville and, bypassing the chain restaurants, we stumbled upon The City Cellar. What a find! Friendly staff and patrons and DELICIOUS food. We had fried green tomatoes, vadallia onion soup and shrimp/salmon chowder! Amazing! Thanks, Bob!
(5)Misti K.
I brought out customers to Cartersville for a Komatsu event. I wanted to take them someplace unique, and found the City Cellar on Yelp. We went in and I immediately loved the atmosphere; dark but friendly and a guy playing harmonica and one playing guitar made for excellent entertainment! We asked the shrimp and grits be served in appetizer portions so we could all have a taste, but have our chosen entrees as well. They did as we asked and they seved the Best shrimp and grits I have ever had! We all proceeded to order a variety of entrees one just as delicious as the next. I then realized there was an old piano in the corner. My boss is a famous pianist, so I asked the server about it. He said it had just come in a couple weeks prior and hadn't been tuned. Although painful to my boss' ears, no one could make that old out of tune piano sound better. Next thing you know we have a packed bar and everyone is singing. I found out they were supposed to close at 10. At 1 am we still had things going off and none of the staff seemed to mind too bad as everyone had fun! It was an epic night that was very unexpected...and I thank the crew at CiTy Cellar for making it so stellar!!! I would highly recommend this place over and over. Shrimp and grits and the fried green tomatoes were my favorite, but we all loved our dishes!
(5)Frederick S.
I give this place four stars plus a grain of salt. I have learned when I walk in to ask what the kitchen is up to. They will usually reply that every thing is fine. On the rare occasions that they give another answer I tell them thanks and take off. The good: The food quality is really high on almost everything I've had. The atmosphere downstairs is really nice and the waitstaff is always friendly if not knowledgeable. The bad: The steaks are lackluster and I totally believe the one star reviewers tale of woe. If they tell you that they are closing the kitchen in. . ./down to x number of cooks/only serving from a certain page of the menu etc. then swing back by another night. There's plenty to eat in Cartersville. Even after all that it's worth it when you catch them on a good night.
(4)G F.
Great food, even better service. Our waiter met us at the door with a complimentary and delicious dessert.
(5)Erik A.
This is a little bar and grill that seems to have an upstairs and a downstairs for dining. We went into the "cellar" which is the bar area for lunch. I have mentioned this in a few reviews but I still seem to be on a roll with great service. This place was no exception the waitress was great, attentive and came over just the right number of times to make sure we had everything we needed. As for the food it was reasonably priced and very tasty. I asked the person I was with if everything on the menu was pretty good and they said it was - they were a regular that had suggested eating there. Next time I am in the area I will definitely stop back in - may to the upstairs so I can experience that area!
(3)Vincent C.
My buddy took me here for lunch!!! Amzing food and service. The server was on top of her game, and the food... KILLER!!! Loved every bite, every minute, and I will be sure to return!
