About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.

This was our first time to the Appalachian Grill and it won't be our last. Where we sat, the booths were fine, the decor went with the theme and the music was at an appropriate level despite other reviews. First off, our server, Cassie, was very attentive, so kind and hospitable. She also was very knowledgeable about the menu, which should be a requirement, but sadly isn't in most places. So thanks to Cassie! The appetizer portions were beyond generous! We had fried green tomatoes and the fried pickles. My only request here....describe the fried green tomatoes as having a bit of spice...one of our party couldn't eat them as she isn't tolerant to a lot of (any) heat. But they were cooked to perfection! The pickles were okay....nothing special. The drinks were not great. We ordered Old Fashions...for some reason the bar has a tendency to make whatever they think the drink should be if they don't know the drink rather than looking it up. The drink was SO SWEET!!! I couldn't finish it. The meals we all ordered were cooked beautifully! Portions very generous! Oh and the house salad was amazing! Overall a great visit!

Food is consistently great. Because the AG is a oasis in a town with limited comparable options, repeat visits can become tiresome due to their limited and never changing menu. The wait staff are more often irritable and their timing of each course brought to the table is to them not a real concern. More than once we would get appetizers, salad and main all delivered to the table at the same time. This is as bad as bad food and ruins the entire experience. In each case it was always blamed "on the kitchen" but having waited tables myself I know this to be deflection. Despite this, we continue to enjoy the food here.

Been here a million times. Still the best place to eat in Cartersville. The atmosphere is low and soft, nice mountain music in the background. Dress up or come casual.
(5)Maria E.
We have eaten here several times over the years. It's expensive so it's always saved for special nights. Tonight we left disappointed. My husband ordered the pecan chicken mostly due to the portion of food that comes with it. It always has two pieces of chicken. That is usually the only thing I order and can never finish it. Tonight he got a small portion of mashed sweet potatoes and a small piece of chicken. He definitely enjoyed the meal, but left feeling hungry. We have always justified $18 for the chicken bc you get so much, but not tonight.

A restaurant deemed "the best" in NY, Chicago, even Atlanta or Athens-- (Surprise! Athens is a foodie town!!) -- is worth trying. But the best in Cartersville isn't necessarily an accolade. (As I type this, I realize how highbrow I sound. I don't mean to.) Don't get me wrong. The place fills a niche, as evidenced by up to hour-long waits. But Appalachian Grill isn't for me: naugahyde tablecloths, cracked booth seating, an attempt at ambience with very low lighting, One can overlook the lights, the pleather, the ripped seat scraping our thighs ... it's the food we're here for. And I say "huh?" Perhaps I didn't read the menu properly. The pecan dusted trout sounded lovely. I chose it, never expecting it to be fried. (Who fries trout?) My daughter ordered what looked like the chicken-version of my meal, also fried. (To be fair, the breast was juicy, and both portions were big.) My husband chose prime rib, which he said was under-seasoned, though to chef's credit, cooked medium rare. Our experience wasn't awful. Side salads are big, and pretty darned good. Decent wine can be had for $27/bottle. And the desserts were, um... sweet. Weigh it out. If you live in the area, don't feel like dressing up, and enjoy big quantities of food, give 'em a try. You can have my seat!

Very nice. But I don't it when the wait staff asks "is everything perfect?" Please...
(3)Katharina M.
I had a great dinner here last week. High prices, but large helpings. Good service and great atmosphere. I would recommend this place!
(5)Shannon W.
So far, several empty tables when we arrived yet told it was a 10 minute wait. Two others parties waiting. Been 10 minutes and still waiting. Another woman asked about the wait and a waitress stated, "we just like to seat accordingly so the kitchen can keep up." To me that can mean short-staffed. Another thing we noticed is the dark decor. The walls were painted black and there was not a lot of lighting. This made it look dreary and not warm/inviting. It is already under the bridge with little natural light coming in, so painting it dark did not make it romantic, but dreary. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich with mashed potatoes. It was quite thick with the coasting it had and seemed inside out or something was not right to my liking. It appeared that the inside wasn't cooked well. My husband's BLT had a lot of bacon on it. So much so that he had to take some off of it. I was not impressed with the style of restaurant and for this reason, we probably would not return.

Been here a few times now and still have to say they are consistently serving good food! The wait staff is another story...they are a moody bunch...maybe they should hire people with previous training or do provide better training on smiling, being pleasant, checking on their tables, and saying "Thank You" Makes you almost want to skip the good food and go to the place down the street that has both :(
(5)Jim T.
Four times in 3 years and from an outta towner....they nailed it again! Had the lunch special, pork roast with potato and carrot, salad with cranberries and pecans, very fresh and delicious. The cornbread has a nice sweet taste, we asked for extras and the kind waiter brought plenty!! Great service, food and atmosphere!!
(5)Lars G.
This will be a quick and easy review. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. Even the other guests were friendly and warm. This is a "must go" place if you are in Cartersville.
(5)David G.
We stopped into this place based on the reviews - we don't make it to Cartersville much. It was an excellent surprise. The place is pretty cool, but they are trying a little too hard to be "mountain." The banjo music was a little loud and the restrooms where kind of shady. The service was average - my beer came still in the bottle - no chilled glass. I found that strange. As for the food, I was really pleased. The salads where terrific - one of the best starter salads that I have had in a while. Entrees where large and well prepared. The trout was different than I have ever had, but really good the collards tasted like Nana's, but the rice was just rice. My wife had the salmon croquettes and they where pretty good too. The sauce was really the star of her plate. Overall, it is a good place and I would recommend.

WORST RESTAURANT IN THE AREA!!! The staff is rude!! The place is old and dingy !! The owner walks around the restaurant wearing a dirty filthy chef jacket with a look on his face like he hates his life!! No wonder the staff is unfriendly with the example he sets.. Our food was bland, cold and not fresh at all. The vegetables looked like they were 3 days old and the prime rib was all fat. Stay away from this place NOT WORTH YOUR TIME!!!'
(1)Steve M.
Don't tell people it will be a 40 minute wait when it in fact was over 90 minutes. Unacceptable!
(1)Michelle M.
This is one of my favorite places to go. The food is absolutely amazing and never a disappointment. This is always my pick for special occasions. It's tucked away in the old town of Cartersville in one of the old buildings which makes it a unique setting. I definitely recommend this place.
(5)Sarah N.
Love to eat here! The atmosphere is very nice. The rooms are broken up by brick walls so the restaurant might be busy but you would never know. I ordered the special which was baked mahi mahi. It came with a salad and 2 sides. The salad had cranberries and pecans and came with a piece of cornbread in the shape of a leaf, so delicious!! The mahi was cooked to perfection. The owner is so personable, he came out to make sure our meal was prefect! Ordered the Crème Brûlée for dessert and it was just wonderful!! Our waitress was on the ball and very informative. This was my second time here and it did not disappoint!! Can't wait to be back in there area and eat here again!!!
(5)tiphni h.
Good, but no kid menu and very fattening. Food is decent but loads of butter, oil and fats are used to flavor. Great salad if they did not use iceberg lettuce.
(3)Melli B.
Two stars for ambiance and nice staff. Wasn't impressed with my meal at all. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. It was SALTY! The grits still tasted like the box....not cooked all the way. Oh the presentation was pretty and all. After digging in though, I realized that all I had in my plate was a bunch of overly salted vegetables and a few shrimp. We also ordered a few house salads, and some fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were excellent and so was the salad and especially with that crunchy and sweet hot bread it was served with. Everyone's food looked wonderful. I did taste my cousins crab cakes. It was fresh and tasted really nice. Unfortunately, after my meal, I felt I needed a gallon of water. Saving grace, the staff was wonderful and I felt the waitress was sweet and very attentive! I don't live in Cartersville so it's likely I'll never return to this place. I'd maybe be willing to if I could ask for less salt in preparation.

I'm originally from an town near Cartersville and have heard so many good things about this restaurant. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my parents made plans to eat here on NYE for the rehearsal dinner for my brother and sister in law's small New Year's Day wedding at their home. Given that my sister in law is Thai and from San Diego, I was hoping the Appalachian Grill would not disappoint in introducing her family to some good southern food (none of them had ever been to the Southeast US except for my sister in law). They did not disappoint. In fact, they nailed it. Although the menu is typical American food, it does have a southern influence. To start out, the location and ambience is very nice. Located in an old brick building in quaint downtown Cartersville, it has a rural country vibe. On the inside, it has a very cozy cabin feel, somewhat rustic (and dimly lit). Our party of 12 went early because they do not take reservations, but we still waited about an hour. We were seated in back to back large booths which comfortably seated 6 at each booth. The service was excellent, the food was fabulous. Everyone in our party raved about everything from appetizers to desserts. I had the trout and it was excellent. Unfortunately, because I live in Tennessee, I have not had the chance to come back on my trips home. However, it's definitely on the radar to check out again in the future.

I came here because of the high reviews this place has garnered on Yelp. I liked the food, but didn't see anything so out of the ordinary to give the place five stars. It seems to be a one man shop where you order at the counter and take out food. There are a few tables inside if you're inclined to eat there (as I was). I had fried chicken with pinto beans and cole slaw. They have a menu posted on a board next to the counter where you order. There were about eight or so main dishes and you get two sides with each main dish. The fried chicken was three wings. This was explained to me in advance and I should have probably chosen something else since wings don't have so much meat on them but I went ahead since I wanted fried chicken and hadn't had it for a while. It came out fresh from the cooker very hot, and was moist and pretty good. The beans and cole slaw were also good, but I didn't see anything special. I think this is just a very nice takeout place for southern style food with very reasonable prices (mine was $8.99).
(3)Davis M.
Never had a bad meal here... I love my server Darcy... the mussels in saffron cream sauce is to die for!
(5)Erica L.
What a meal! I took my family from PA here and they couldn't stop raving about it. My dad had the prime rib, which he thought was perfect. My fiancée and I had this lumberjack dish that lasted us two days, which was fine in our book. The booths are a little small for a group bigger than 4, but the service and atmosphere are great for family meals it date night. We are definitely going back.
(5)Molly L.
Good for those that don't know any better. That's the best way I can describe it. When I first went there, some years ago as a wee lass, I thought it was wonderful. The food was perfect, the creme brulee divine, and so on so forth. I went back several times since and the quality of the food has declined GREATLY (salting the food to death seems to be the norm for hiding poor execution), the service is mediocre, and the general appearance has lost it's luster. I remember the first times we went the chef would come out himself and ask about the dinner...that doesn't happen anymore. It was slightly disappointing. If you are accustomed to a fine dining experience or, at the very least, a trendy gastropub...this isn't for you. It's a glorified Chili's. It's still not AWFUL but don't think it's going to be culinary feat.
(2)Sylvester K.
Nice ambiance. I like the music, and the food is a cut above Chili's, TGIF, etc. The BLT is monstrous. The pecan crusted chicken is also highly excellent. The oyster crackers (for the soup) are from Massachusetts. All in all, I like this place. Go for it.
(4)Michael C. C.
Excellent atmo and great service. The seafood was excellent as was the beef. Staff are professional, fast, and fun. Highly recommend.
(4)Jeff L.
An intimate place with good food and good drinks and service

My order got messed up. But with such awesome customer service and one of the most amazing meals I've had in a long time, I can't help but go back! The wait-staff was so apologetic which they didn't have to be. The food was outstanding! I had an awesome experience!
(5)Richard W.
My wife & I came here for lunch. Immediately- we could tell it was more upscale. The food was ok. My wife was not real happy with her food. Mine was good. The service was excellent and professional. It was much too dark for my liking. I really liked the Appalachian music playing in the background. That was wonderful. Overall- it was Ok.
(3)R G.
A friend suggested we have lunch her and glad she did. The French Dip was great. I defiantly suggest you give this place a try.

My coworkers and I decided to continue our search for unique local restaurants while staying in Cartersville. Someone suggested the Appalachian Grill and others seconded it, so we took off in search of it. The place is located UNDERNEATH a street, right off of Wall St. It appears that it is another "old town" type area that contained shops, restaurants, and even a bar or two. When you walk in there was a little bar area to the left and a waiting area. Decor is rustic cabin hunter in style, but with low lights which gave it all an elegant cabin feel. We were told a 10-15 minute wait which was fine, but ended up being seated about 5 minutes later. Perfect! After getting my requisite glass of malbec, I perused the menu. We all decided on different entrees and got the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. These were good - fried in batter rather than cornmeal which I definitely prefer. I got the crabcakes for an entree which was served with bisque underneath, rice pilaf, and asparagus (my choice). The crabcakes were good and I liked the bisque underneath. The rice was really good instead of just an afterthought and asparagus was, well, asparagus. Overall it didn't top my favorite crabcakes (oh Houston's...you have ruined me), but they were very good nonetheless. I tried the fried trout which was an ENORMOUS portion with lots of fried goodness. I also tried some mussels off my coworker's seafood ensemble dish and I loved them. Nice flavor. The menu is heavy on seafood choices, but at the bottom they do have some dishes that are non-seafood and include chicken and also a leg of lamb dish. They also have steak if you are feeling more like eating red meat. Prices are in line with a nice restaurant with quality food. But for my entree, my part of the appetizer, and 2 glasses of wine, I still got out of there for under $50 so not too shabby. I heard that this place was the "best restaurant in Cartersville" and I believe them. I am definitely going to hit this place up next time I am in town!
(4)Molly P.
For the simple reason of I cannot wait to take my husband here I am giving this place 5 stars. I ordered the fish blackened over mashed sweet potatoes, so amazing!
(5)Edward W.
Great place for a pre-show drink in downtown Cartersville. Packed bar, and the restaurant is one of the hot spots in C-ville.
(4)Jane E.
Loved this gem. We stopped as it was recommended by hotel mgr. Glad we ate here best food wine and service. We will make it a regular stop up 75 . Best place to eat in Cartersville. The staff are friendly along with the patrons. Always interesting to sit at the bar.

Appalachian Grill has a serene, cabin like decor that makes you instantly feel at home. This place is always packed and for good reason, a 5 star restaurant in a quiet little North Georgia town that everyone literally comes from everywhere to try! This place has attentive staff always offering refills, clearing plates and bringing out new food. The wine list boasts a bit of everything from pear and apple wines to your every day Reds and Riesling's. Best. Trout. Ever. I literally have fantasies about the trout here and the portion is so big it takes over 80% of the plate. I am also a fan of the Appalachian plate that comes with a skewer full of plump scallops, kielbasa, fried spinach pieces with thick cuts of red potatoes and a spicy mustard. Every house salad comes with cranberries, bacon, walnuts, egg and their hot bacon honey mustard dressing could be served in a wine glass! Each salad plate comes with their homemade cornbread, cranberry muffins shaped like fish. Need I go on?! I also absolutely adore a server named VINCE! We have memorized his schedule because although we've had other servers, nothing compares to the attention he gives. We are on a first name basis! I only wish he would stop changing his days off! I bring everyone here from work associates, family and friends. Everyone leaves raving about the delicious food and fun atmosphere.
(5)Michele P.
This place is amazing. Went on Valentine's Day, so we knew what we'd be getting into. But it was worth the wait. We will definitely be going back. I had the prime rib, which was easily 2 meals for me. Husband had a southwest type steak with sweet potatoes. Everything was delish. The servers were courteous despite begin busy.
(5)Lisa P.
You can't miss with Pickles and Puppies! The collards are awesome....even the stems! They know how to do fish!
(5)Justin D.
Just ate here for the first time and I am already a fan. I will definitely be back. The meal started off with fantastic and fairly unique salad, complete with cranberries and pecans. The salad also came with a yummy fish-shaped corn muffin, also filled with cranberries and pecans. The meal itself was fantastic. I had the Smokey Mountain Trout and it was probably one of the better pieces of fish that I've had. Definitely the best trout. It was huge and I couldn't even finish it, but it fell right apart and made my taste buds very happy. If I just had to pick something to nit-pick about, the lighting was just a tad dim, but that is very minor. On the whole, the atmosphere was great. I took a particular liking to the music selection, and that isn't something I would normally even comment on. I would definitely recommend this to anyone! Be sure to check it out.

Stopped in Georgia on our trip back to the west coast and decided to stop in and have dinner here. Was extremely satisfied!! First the salad alone was amazing. Served with a delicious cranberry corn muffin. I ordered the pecan crusted chicken and thought it was soo good!!! I would definitely go back if I'm ever in this area again. The service was also excellent! Everyone was super friendly. LOVED THIS PLACE. wish there was one on the west coast.

THE place to enjoy a great meal in Cartersville....the food and service are top shelf!!

Great place! Had lunch here last weekend and was truly impressed by the taste and presentation of the meal. The prompt and friendly service was the icing in the cake.

I met the bf's mom here for dinner a few weeks ago as a mid-way point (she was in TN, we're in Atlanta) and it was a great location in Cartersville. We actually took a nice backroad trip there and didn't even have to hop on I-75, we ended up right in downtown C-ville and found the restaurant right away. Plentiful parking in the lot nearby. I wasn't expecting top-notch hostess service after reading reviews. They took our name and weren't overly welcoming. But the restaurant itself was -- really beautiful interior, great decor and really nice dining atmosphere. The menu does provide a wide range of dishes and you'd be hard pressed not to find something for any appetite. The main courses all come with a delicious, amazing starter salad (which is also quite enormous). The shrimp bisque was also very good. Then on to the dinners. I had the combo platter that included bratwurst and kielbasa with spinach and potatoes. No complaints, it was tasty (but nothing amazing, over the top, mind you). After our soups came, it sort of felt like we were rushed through the rest of the meal. Starter salads came out and before we were halfway done, there were the entrees. Not everyone at our table had starters, but still -- we were there to catch up and enjoy the meal. The food timing was way too quick to savor and enjoy. Other than that, the meal was good. I don't know if I'd drive out of my way to hit this place up again but if you're in the area, I'd definitely give it a whirl (and I really wish I'd tried one of their chicken pasta dishes -- they looked amazing!!).

Saw all the good reviews, and had to try them out! My husband and I split the mountain salad, it was so large. Also has the grilled portobella appetizer. Yum! Every one was so nice, and accommodating for my special dietary needs. Fun atmosphere, and interesting choices.

It's UNDER THE BRIDGE. if you can't find it it's because you're going over the bridge. The food is good and plentiful. Staff is very nice, polite, prompt, and overall great. Highly recommended.

We dined Saturday 12/14/13 and it was our Anniversary Dinner, we luckily found two seats at the bar or it would have been a 30+ min wait for a table. Bar Seats are big and comfortable and the place is decorated splendidly. I had the filet au poive and it was absolutely perfect, my husband had the ribeye and it was delicious as well. We will definitely be back every detail was well cared for and the food was fresh and superb. The same owner owns Ate Track around the corner and we had drinks and desert there. I recommend both and the staff at both places is top notch and makes you feel welcomed and warm and you want to return.

While it was a little hard to find, it's definitely a hidden gem. The wait staff was so nice. Usually when I'm traveling I have to go out and eat alone, and this waitstaff were so nice and sweet to me, constantly asking if I needed anything and just chatting me up. Definitely did not feel like I was eating alone that night. The appetizers were AMAZING!! The fried portabella mushroom and spinach was so good! Light and well seasoned. The entree was so heavy! I was stuffed after 2 bites. But definitely worth packing it up and taking it home for tomorrow's lunch.

My wife and I made the drive from Douglasville to Cartersville last night to eat at Appalachian Grill. We had a so so experience, so given the long drive, we will probably not return. Here are some of the pluses and minuses of the restaurant. 1. Minus. No web site with helpful information, including the menu. I called and confirmed that this is the case. I find this a bid odd for an established restaurant, and we felt anxious making the long drive without knowing what was on the menu. When asked about the dress code, the person on the phone said she sees everything from sweats to dresses. Sounds like the restaurant is having an identify crisis! 2. Minus. Hostess attitude. The restaurant does not take reservations, but that is okay - we don't mind waiting for truly good food. But the hostess attitude when she said "an hour wait" was just not very hospitable. I felt like it was "this is the Appalachian Grill and you will wait your obligatory hour. Now be gone until I calleth your name." 3. Plus. Good bar. My wife had the Filus Malbec. Delicious. I had a couple of mixed drinks that were made expertly (i.e., stiff). I must say, though, that the bar was very dimly lit. The lights were dimmed beyond the point of romantic and probably good for liquored bar patrons who cannot keep their hands off each other. 4. Neutral. Waitress. She was polite and had a friendly smile but was never truly engaging. She asked if we liked the food, but I could tell she was asking this in the obligatory way that a grocery cashier asks "did you find everything you were looking for." 5. Plus. My dinner. I ordered a "mountain salad" and the soup of the day, cream of leek. Both were very good. For the main, I ordered steak au poivre with a brandy reduction sauce. It was really nice, and the meat was at the proper temperature. 6. Really Minus. My wife's dinner. She ordered the chicken francese, which came with a house salad. She thought the salad was okay but not great. The chicken is the reason we probably will not return. It was supposed to be a thinly sliced cutlet, dipped in egg and batter, pan fried with butter and lemon, and served over pasta, with capers and diced tomatoes. Sounds good enough. When her plate arrived, my wife asked me "what is that odor?" She tried a bite, and then I tried a bite to confirm her reaction. The chicken tasted like it was cooked in oil that was not up to temperature, and therefore, had absorbed a lot of cooking oil. It was simply gross. The waitress seemed concerned (in an obligatory way), and the manager who visited our table seemed angry that we did not like the food. My wife was put off and went without having a main. 7. Plus. Desert. We had creme brulee, which also served as a portion of my wife's dinner! The creme brulee was nice. It came with whipped cream (totally unncessary and probably from a cool whip container) and a strawberry that tasted embalmed. However, once these toppings were pushed aside, the desert was actually very nice. In summary, a mixed review. If I lived in Cartersville, I would give it another try, but we will likely not make the drive again to risk this type of experience.

Love this eatery, been going for years. Food is fantastic and I love the BBQ ranch dressing. The trout is fantastic. I really want to try the duck. Please put it on the menu. What a cool bar.

I think a 2nd trip here and an edit on my part might be necessary. This place potentially has all the key essentials I find mandatory in a good restaurant: 1. A varied menu that is well executed 2. Comfortable environment 3. Well trained servers 4. Attention. So, I had run a 10k that morning and then plodded around the Western Art Museum next door for a few hours. I was 'rungry'... Loved the 'cabin' decor. My server was gracious and knowledgeable and friendly... I was seated right away, given my unsweetened tea and a menu... decisions decisions... I was leaning toward the trout, which is an excellent Appalachian local fish, or a steak... So, it was between the trout, an Ribeye (a predictably yummy piece of beef) and the gorgonzola crusted NY Strip. Yes, I opted for the strip... The water and tea flowed like a smoky mountain steam after a downpour! The shrimp bisque was good and creamy and just the righ amount of salty for me. I would deffo get that again. The potatoes were supposed to be garlic mashed, however they were decidedly horse-radishy. I can live with that, but would opt for asparagus or something other next time. And the steak, as beautiful as it was to look at was about 1/3 inedible. My waitress said they prep their steaks in house every day, but this one had a band of fat along the one side, and not trimmed from it was the silvery piece of connective tissue... And that in turn was connected throughout the steak to more tough connective tissue and gristle. Luckily, I have good surgical skills and took the challenge of dissecting the meat prior to eating what I could, instead of just complaining and sending it back. So, what did we learn? (And by we we mean I, I mean, I mean I or me rather) 1. Order the trout. -- It's regionally appropriate and in the theme of the restaurant and it was my instinctive choice. And when has that ever served me wrong? 2. Just send something really awful back to the kitchen... 3. Give the place another chance.

Ssshhh! This place is Delicious mountain retreat I have never had a bad meal or experience here.
(5)Wes R.
Incredible meal, got the bourbon salmon and was not disappointed! Our table of 4 all received seafood dishes and we each loved them. Vincent was our server and did an amazing job. The meal was so good it inspired me to write my first review!
(5)Amy T.
"Excellent! I travel a lot and always look for places other than chains. I started with a house salad and it was a decent size. I definitely recommend the tomato basil vinaigrette. I had the blackened catfish with crayfish and it was amazing! I sat at the bar and the bartender was so friendly which helps when dining alone.
(4)Ben L.
Good food. Decent decor. Be sure to make reservations if you're headed there on the weekend.
(4)Jeff B.
The place is in a great location but their attitude is a bit arrogant for any restaurant. Memo to Appalachian, it's all about the customer! The place is small so be prepared for a wait at the typical dinner times. To sum it up: Arrogant, expensive, cold, bland.. They need to experience Henri's in Acworth - those people are friendly, the food is hot and delicious and Henri always makes the rounds to talk with patron and insure a quality experience.
(1)Matt C.
I don't understand the mixed reviews here, though I'm sure it's possible for any restaurant to maybe have a 'bad night'. I've been eating here every once in a while for close to ten years now, and have never had an experience that was short of fantastic, particularly in regard to the food. A few of my recommendations: Mussels appetizer: comes with a choice of broth.. go with the saffron bisque. These are consistently some of the best mussels I've ever had, and I've had them all over. The bisque is amazing, and you'll be dipping your bread in it after all the mussels are gone Salads. Fantastic here, and come with all entrees. I recommend the peppercorn ranch or gorgonzola dressing Loaded potato soup. Delicious Blue cheese crusted ribeye / steak au poivre. Both excellent selections, some of the best steak you can get in the metro Atlanta area Atmosphere is great here too, darkly lit with a cabin/lodge vibe. Usually some bluegrass coming through the speakers. Definitely the best choice for dinner in Cartersville, and totally worth the drive from other areas..

We actually chose this restaurant based on other Yelp reviews. We were visiting in Cartersville and had no idea where to eat. Because of the mostly great reviews, we gave Appalachian Grill a try. We were so glad we did! Items we tried: Pecan crusted chicken (Awesome!), beef tips special (great!),Smokey Mountain Trout (wonderful!) and the Fried Green Tomato appetizer (meh). Very generous portion sizes, we had no room for dessert. Reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food that you get. Loved the décor. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The only issue we had with service was hostess/seating. We waited quite a while to be greeted and once we were it was a with a bit of annoyance that we were interrupting whatever it was she was in the middle of. Luckily, her greeting didn't deter us because our meal was wonderful! We can't wait to go back!
(4)Rachel C.
I had the salmon, rice pilaf, and squash medley. It was all very tasty, and the staff was friendly. I liked the way the place is decorated.
(4)Beverly W.
House salad and homemade dressing hot bacon vinaigrette was excellent. We had chicken and fish dishes and was fantastic. Great service !! Will be coming Back. Bluegrass music. Lots of ambiance
(5)Mitchell L.
Excellent food and drinks. Ribs and pot roast are my favorites.
(4)Angelique E.
Once again Fantastic!!!!!!!
(5)Jerry C.
I agree with Erik L that this place has lost a great deal of luster recently. On our last visit we had the tilapia special and the roast chicken. Neither were remarkable. And I was without a drink most of the night. At one point, I asked the server if they lost their liquor license. And even that didn't speed things up. I hate it when sarcasm doesn't motivate! Used to be a great restaurant. Now, it's Shoney's with the lights turned down.

This is an excellant place to eat. Love to eat here. The servers for me are always way above average. Very nice dinning experience. Very nice atmosphere. For sure this beats going to Chili's or Longhorns. For newcomers may be hard to find since it is under the bridge in Cartersville. Be prepared for long wait during the weekend. I have eaten here during the week and walked right in and sat down. Service is usually pretty quick. Try Pecan Chicken...very good.
(5)Lisa C.
Overpriced and all three times we ate here we were grossly underwhelmed. The sandwiches at lunch are unbalanced - for instance, it's nice that they put lots of corned beef on the Reuben, but tons of meat in between skinny slices of rye and a smattering of sauer kraut and cheese just tastes like meat :(. I actually took more than half of it off and left it on the plate. Worse yet, on an anniversary night out we ordered crab claws as an appetizer and they reeked of ammonia. We sent them back and the chef is either olfactory impaired or just didn't bother to check them because our waitress came back to say "the chef thinks they are fine but we'll bring you something else if you want" in a tone that implied that we were lying ( not sure why what we would gain...we had eaten exactly one bite of it). We tried gator bites instead and they were good. Had the Steak Oscar entree and while the lump crab, asparagus and bearnaise sauce were delicious, they topped a disappointing cut of meat that was flavorless, tough, and strung through with that yucky white membrane you can't chew and gets stuck in your teeth. We both agreed that for a fraction of the price we could have whipped up a much better meal on our grill at home. Without the snotty attitude from a waitress, lol.

I went with my wife after hearing much hype. The seating host did display a bit of attitude that I was fortunate to be seated within 30 minutes during a 1:30 lunch on a Thursday. They were busy and as a result my sandwich came out cold and soggy. Out of fairness, the food did taste good and was reasonably priced. In summary I would rate this place as good when you catch them on a good day. I don't think I would attempt to dine there at a peak Friday or Saturday night.
(3)Darryl G.
Had a great first dining experience this past Friday night. Cassie was awesome and the pecan crusted chicken was great. The salad was unbelievable, I did not expect such a large side salad. I will defiantly be back. Thanks Cassie, I will make sure I ask for you when I come back
(5)Paula G.
We were in Cartersville for a baseball game and found the Appalachian Grill. Very nice atmosphere & great service. We had the Kentucky Bourbon Salmon and a Mountain Salad with Bourbon Salmon. Both were delicious and the wine pours were generous!! We will definitely go back if we are out that way again.
(4)Michael B.
Food is so consistantly good that one wonders how they do it.
(5)Kyle B.
I've been here twice now and both times I have really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is very nice, the place looks great. It is a rather small restaurant. The dining room is not cavernous like many of the major chain restaurants. The food, however is excellent and well worth the wait. Unfortunately, the place does not take reservations, so you will have a wait unless you get there early. On my last visit, I had the Slammin' Flounder. This was definitely an amazing dish. With my meal, I got this big salad which was very good and unique. Then came my main dish, which is a good amount of food, just enough to fill you up. The meal was well presented and very tasty. The servers are excellent. They check up on you just enough to where you're not wanting anything, but not annoyed by their presence either. The bartenders pour with a heavy hand too.. every time I get a Crown and Coke, it's very strong. Other reviewers noted the prices being steep. If you're used to paying $9.99 for the all-you-can-eat feedbag at your local buffet, then this is not the place for you. If you want good quality food, you come here. The prices are average for a restaurant of this quality. Overall, this is a great restaurant to come to for a good quality meal for an acceptable price. With excellent service and a good atmosphere, I'll keep coming back here whenever I'm in town.

My wife and I found this place after parking and walking around the downtown area. The fact that it was somewhat recently established made me nervous, but as I would come to see, my nervousness was completely unfounded. The inside was very dark, however, the atmosphere was rustic and had a very comforting charm. The staff was very attentive and polite, the place settings were classy and the music was nice and not too loud. I was a little confused at what to pick on the menu because all the options sounded so good. The menu choices were perhaps the most unique combinations of items I've ever seen. I had one of the salads off the menu which was absolutely delicious and well balanced. For my entree I chose the pecan encrusted chicken over a bed of mashed sweet potatoes in a bing cherry sauce. The chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy and the pecan crust was crispy and to die for. The sweet potatoes and cherries on the plate added such a savory, tasty twist - it brought to mind thanksgiving dinners of times past. This dish was just so good, I might have dreams about eating it in the future. Needless to say, when we drive down I-75 past Cartersville again, we are stopping at the Appalachian Grill.
(4)Skip W.
Great atmosphere, but pretty long waits for a table on the weekends... The house salad is near perfect and the entree portions are generous... Service can be spotty but the last time we were there in, it was fantastic... The fish specials have always been very good and they always have a nice steak... I highly recommed for a evening out with friends... maybe not quite as "tired" as some have indicated...
(4)Luanne S.
We absolutely loved the food here! It could be the best I've eaten and that's no joke. Fried green tomatoes were delicious and shrimp and grits melted in my mouth. We'd make another trip from Texas just to eat here plus Cartersville had lots to do.
(5)Laurel L.
YI'm a local and can honestly say that you are not missing much by skipping this place. It's old news! While it used to be upscale and hip under the bridge, it's now populated by servers that barely made it through high school that have rude tendencies and the food is okay but not excellent. Serving fish and having fancy names does not a good restaurant make. Head to the Loft and Cellar close by for a better time.
(2)Tony L.
Everybody loves this place except for me, I think it is way over rated. The staff is very arrogant the food is O.K. but I wouldn't take my mother there for a special occasion for the prices they charge. The place is cramped and dark, I feel more like I am camping instead of dining.
(2)Trey N.
Love the slightly hidden location, I don't get the mix reviews but no place is perfect and not every experience is the same. On all of mine I have never had a problem. The longs wait I have had was 30 minutes, while we waited the bar had great drink variety and nice dark feeling that made it relaxing. It isn't a big place which makes me like it more that it has a individual private feeling. The food and drink prices are a little high but it has been very worth it. They have amazing fish and other meals. I do recommend it for a first date or even just a place to get drinks in a dim lighted room for nice mood feeling.
(4)shane p.
Like one of the other reviewers pointed out, the atmosphere is excellent but the food is a bit over rated. I also think the prices are a bit steep for what you get in return. The wait is generally abysmal unless you visit the restaurant during lunch hours. It definitely is a good date spot, given that you really want some quality time with the person you're taking and have a lot to talk about during that wait!
(3)Erik L.
Two years ago this would have been a 5 star review. Now it's barely 3 stars. Not sure what happened here but it isn't the place it was. Service has some issues and food consistency varies widely amongst diners at the same table. I'd look at some other options in Cville before I waited for a table.
(3)Kenny F.
I was a little dubious based on mixed reviews but two locals enthusiastically recommended it. We enjoyed the Pan Seared Shrimp & Scallops and the Pork Roast. Absolutely spot-on food, well prepared and presented. Helpful, friendly, and even fun wait-staff. Well rounded wine list too and fair prices - I had a Louis Jadot Beaujolais for $7. No wait at all at 1:00 PM on a weekday. I too enthusiastically recommend the Grill especially after a visit to the Booth Museum - but can be hard to find as it is hidden under the bridge.
(4)Timber W.
I hate it that Appalachian Grill doesn't take reservations. Still, it's worth the wait to eat there. The slammin' grouper is great, as are the crab fingers for an appetizer. I love their creme brulee and wish they would make more of it, as they are often out by the time I'm ready for dessert. My friends and I used to frequent this restaurant, and I wish I still lived close enough! I think the prices are reasonable and definitely recommend the Grill to anyone visiting the area.
(4)Beverly W.
Are you kidding me? This place totally rocks. The food, the ambience, the service are all top notch....all in tiny Cartersville. We could not have been more pleased with our overall dining experience.
(5)Alexander W.
They seem to be riding on an initial good reputation, and perhaps think they can cut costs by cutting service (slow by even the most Southern standards) and portions. But the way to do it is not to leave a group unattended, even if your embarrassment at how slow the chef is makes it difficult to face your customers. For $10.95 my wife and I got three one-and-a-half inch shrimp and two or three slices of polish sausage the size and thickness of U.S. quarters on a bed of lukewarm cheese grits.. Even for a lunch-sized serving, that's pretty stingy. The waitress never asked how our meal was, probably because having looked at the plates the answer was self-evident. Nice atmosphere, and the recorded bluegrass music was enjoyable. And I suppose with experiences like mine they'll not have to worry about the long waits they used to have.
(1)kevin C.
Love the food and atmosphere. Great favor with unique dishes.
(5)Jim E.
Love this place. Friendly staff, awesome food. Especially the mussel app,be sure to try the fillet steak. I'm there 2 to 3 times a month.
(5)Andrew W.
Very dark atmosphere and bluegrass music (guess that goes along with the "Appalachian" theme). The lunch dishes were pretty expensive ($9 to $15). The food was good but the portions were very small. I ordered the Carolina Shrimp, which only contained 3 shrimp (2 others at the table had the same order, and the same number of shrimp, so it was not a fluke). I left still feeling a bit hungry.
(2)Danny D.
The food is not bad, but it's definitely overrated. The ambiance is wonderful! (unless you have to sit close to the supernova-bright kitchen) All in all, a good place to go on a date, but definitely not worth a 2+ hour wait as sometimes happens..
(3)Sally W.
I have never been disappointed with my service or food. Once we take visitors here, it is the first place they ask to go on repeat visits. Love the cabin/club feel and the bluegrass music. Portions have always been large and tastey. Prices are a little higher than we normally like to pay but for a "treat" the food is worth it. The price is not out of line for a sit down, fresh dinner. The manager has gotten several bad raps on other review sites but has always been accommodating to us. My daughter didn't like the taste of something she order (just personal preference not food quality) and the manager stopped on a pass through and offered to make her something different(no charge). I'm not sure what the desserts taste like as I am always too full to try one. We enjoyed the fried tomatoes on our last visit (12/26/11) and always enjoy the fresh salad with pecans and cranberries-yum! We will contiue to visit this special place.
