We had a friend recommend this place so we took my in-laws last night & we were not disappointed. This is in historic downtown Canton. We arrived at 5:30 and chose to sit upstairs. All the wait staff was super nice and great. We ordered a calamari app and it was really nice. Every one of the 4 of us at dinner really enjoyed our meal. Between us we had the flank steak, sirloin, ribeye and chicken. The whipped potatoes are the whip....lol They had a killer sweet Riesling that I wish I got the name of. Husband said they had the best collard greens he's had since being in Georgia. The salads were really good too. They make their dressings all in house which is always a bonus. I'm a dressing snob....the jar ranch just doesn't cut it for me. Sometimes I'll even judge a place on the quality of their dressings. If they are good, thick & homemade you know the food is going to be good. Tell me I'm not the only one thinking this? None the less, we would definitely go back if in the area. To give this a 5 rating I would say the layout of the restaurant is a little odd with a bar splitting the top floor down the middle. It felt a little more pub-ish vs. restaurant, however again, the food was great, service great and we'd recommend this to friends.

I can't say enough about this place. Someone wrote in their review about how Chase was great! We were lucky enough to have him as our server and he was probably one of the most polite, nicest, and informative servers I have ever come across. He really made the experience for us out-of-towners. People talk about Southern hospitality and he is the epitome of that! He told me to go with the 30 day aged ribeye and I can't say enough about the steak. If you imagine perfect, this was as close as it gets. I went in wanting a good steak and I walked out having one of the best steaks I've eaten. To top it off, I like the feel of this place and really appreciated the paintings of all the famous musicians on the walls. That really added some character and led to some great conversations both among ourselves as well as with the staff! Well done... no pun intended! ;)

We've been back a 3 times and they already know us. All the menu items we've tried have been great and we'll go back again and again. Love this place.

This is a gem of a find. Owned by the same people that own Goin Coastal in Canton. Wow, the place has been swamped every time we have been there. I see why. Great service, great food.....broad menu with a twist on everything. Sweet Potato Chips are to die for. Hanger steak, stuffed Chicken and scallops are just a few winners. You will not be disappointed but I suggest reservations as it is tough to get in off the street!

This was a last minute decision because we had to be in Canton at the theatre. Will be back as soon as possible!! The atmosphere has a good vibe, and the service was great. The food is unbelievable. Shared the duck ham and cheese plate, OMG! this is one of those rare gems that is hard to find anywhere else! it is a must try!. Hanger steak is a must. Even the owner is present and active with all customers. Great experience.

So, I went back because a co-worker wanted to go there. Same old story. The buffalo fritters were incredible and the entree sucked. I got the hanger steak. Our server, who was great, told me that I would never eat anything else they have after getting it. I would pretty much try anything else to get away from it next time. I guess it is my fault for not reading the description on the menu, but I am not a fan of small heavily marinated steaks. That is exactly what this is. Gross. It was like eating a happy meal. There was one new development though. The dessert is amazing. We got the mint chocolate chip cheesecake, two of my favorites fused in to one, and it was to die for. So, long story short...if you go to this place, get the apps and dessert and you will be fine.

One of our favorite restaurants!! Steaks rank up there with Ruths Chris and Stoney River at about half the price. My husband and I have tried many things on the menu and have not found a single thing we don't love.
Visited the resturant on the recomendation of other Yelp users which was about 90% positive. I have to say that I left with a less than favorable opinion due to several factors. First, the upstairs seating bothered us, mainly because the servers were continually going up and down 2 flights of stairs, kitchen was downstairs. The food was good, upscale, but portions were too small for the price. Atmosphere was nice, servers were friendly and informed. Might go back one more time and try the downstairs dining near the bar.

went with friends for aHanger steak fix and was totally disappointed. Couldnot chew it at all.I was not offered a replacement but was comped a slice of yummy chocolate cake. I think I will be steering clear of my once favorite place ill I hear things have improved.

Not good. Expecting fine dining instead got another local bar with frozen food. The atmosphere was a little creepy. Went in expecting a boutique restaurant, but the dominating thing inside was the bar. Steak was ordered medium well, arrived medium rare. Baked potato had been reheated as the skin was all wrinkly. Service was OK if it were a longhorn. Went to longhorn after for desert (we no longer trusted the kitchen staff to feed us) and it was better service and food even though it was frozen too. Longhorn is better at it than downtown kitchen with better atmosphere. Recommend you avoid like Winchester grill and instead go to Bedoe's in Hickory Flat who, though they may also cook your steak wrong, will charge you appropriately and not "put on airs."

First time checking out Canton and was overall impressed. Everyting we ate was very good and the service was fine if a little unpolished. I'm all for friendly and familiar service but don't come talk to the table while you're drinking from an Aqua Panna bottle. If you are thinking this is fine dining, it's not, but it is good food and the service is good enough for Canton, in Buckhead would be two maybe three stars but also would cost twice as much. I'll definately go back to check out the rest of the menu.

Consistently great food but a bit higher in price than my normal meal out so it becomes my special occasion location. The wait staff is great and all guests are treated as honored guests. The menu is experimental enough to make it special without being too far out that it just gets quirky. I enjoy every time I decide to spend a few bucks more to eat here.

This is a great, fun, and independent place to eat dinner at. It's a wonderful option in the franchise-heavy suburbs. My service here has always been excellent and the food has been expected. That's not to say that the food is in anyway not good (it's great!); it's just not as special as you might expect from an independent place.

Awesome special occasion night. The steak was perfect and the peanut butter pie was sinfully delicious.

I wasn't really impressed with the overall food. The ribeye steak was nothing special, pretty bland and not worth $38. I honestly feel that outback or longhorn is a better steak and costs a lot less. The kobe steak was very good and priced a lot better than the ribeye. It was a daily special and was $25. The salads were just a basic salad, nothing special, and didn't look that appetizing. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good. The staff was very friendly and the overall ambiance of the old building was good. My only real gripe is the high menu price that its consistent with the quality.

I loved the ambience of this restaurant. The service was friendly and helpful! Our waiter Chase was extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and the restaurant itself. We ordered the hanger steak and it was delicious. I thought the portions were perfect and it was reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning and bringing family and friends next time. I'm also planning on booking my next party in the room upstairs. I think Downtown Kitchen is my new favorite restaurant!!!

Definitely make reservations if you plan to go on a Fri/Sat night. It was our first visit and based on our experience at Going Coastal I had high expectations. Food was excellent...ok, amazing! Buffalo Fritter appetizer was the bomb. My husband got the Bison short ribs and I got the Swordfish, both daily specials and both tasty. Desserts are homemade and you must save room for them. Here's why I didn't give 5 stars...when we arrived (with a reservation) they wanted sit us on the 2nd floor at a high-top...we declined that then were seated by the front door. It was a cold evening and we both caught the draft every time the door opened and had to wear our coats the entire dinner. Service started off great but as more and more people came it was hard to get your tea refilled or even someone to take our dessert order. We do recommend and will be back but likely will come earlier and with a reservation to be safe.

My first visit to an unfamiliar restaurant based on yelp reviews. I was very pleased to find everything was as good as the reviewers stated. A completely wonderful experience. I am sold on yelp, and the downtown kitchen.

Had the stuffed chicken breasts and a side of collards. Both were excellent. Wife got the hangar steak and I must say, as good as mine was I had a case of entre envy! Two in our party also got the scallops and the fried chicken. Apparently the chicken was amazing, crisp, juicy and not greasy. Drinks were good, service was spot on and the dip for the bread was outstanding...we found ourselves attempting to dissect it for preparation at home. It was a bit loud but only because it was packed. I liked the blues theme and blues music playing in the background... we will be back to this hidden gem. As good as many itp spots but much closer and less expensive.

The food was okay. We had the Salmon and it was good. The prices were more like $$$. It was very noisy. Even though it was a slow night, I felt our waiter was rushing us. So overall it was okay, nothing special. We also had sweet potatoes chips with blue cheese, and steak wontons. Again just OK, not special.

I am a Nebraska girl, so I have some understanding of what constitutes a great steak. With that in mind, the Hanger Steak here is magnificent. Tender, succulent, a perfect balance of flavors. The sundried tomato spread for the bread is utterly delicious, the collard greens peppery and and pleasantly spicy. The waiter was attentive and helpful. I will definitely make this a stop next time I'm in town.

This place is a hidden gem! Well worth the drive to be a destination spot. It's in downtown (historic?) Canton. It has a cool, retro bar vibe with eclectic music based art on the walls. Features a cozy bar and an open kitchen. I waited for my dining companion at the bar enjoying a well made martini - the bar keep re-shook my drink half way through to re-chill it. Super polite and friendly staff. We had the duck & craft cheese appetizer - which was pretty solid. I had a steak and potato with a caesar salad. I know, way to be adventurous - but it had been one of those days. The steak was prepared nicely and was very tender and flavorful without being over seasoned/salted. My dining partner had a risotto they she enjoyed very much. The menu, although small, had a number of interesting options that I look forward to trying in future visits.

A local favorite. I almost always get the hangar steak - you can't go wrong with this steak, marinated in a chili sauce and served sliced. If you're in the mood for comfort food, the kitchen fried chicken is delicious, and there will be plenty leftover to take home.

Nice atmosphere offering a different dining experience on each level. Be sure to make reservations or come early on the weekends as it fills up quickly. Usually have live music upstairs on the weekends. Food is frequently good but the most of the portions are small, the menu is limited and the prices can be steep. And if you are in the mood for a salad -- think again. We were able to pay extra for a SMALL side salad. They can accommodate small groups with a reservation- but it if frequently tight. The atmosphere and quality of food though means we will be back.

Thanks, Yelp!, for once again leading us to an outstanding restaurant after a long tiring day judging one-act plays in Jasper. We decided we were hungry on the way home around the Canton area, and found this one. So glad we did. The restaurant is actually upstairs next door from where you check in, and you can take the elevator up and it opens onto a bar and bandstand and restaurant table spaces. Our waiter was very good--told us about the specials and what his favorites were. He seemed to be a local because later he knew everyone else who had come in after us. Very friendly and attentive. We started with the mussels, one of our favorites, and later learned we had gotten the last order for the night! Whew! My wife then had he stuffed chicken, which I knew she would order because it contained two of her favorite items--artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. I got the Andouille pork tenderloin, wjth a delicious bacon-thyme gravy. The pork was a little dry but the combination of the flavors was excellent. A very romantic, local type place, and we were glad we stopped. We will be back here again to try some of the other menu delights, like the acclaimed hangar steak.

Generally portions are small and prices are high. The Charcuterie appetizer had itty bitty pieces of cheese along with 5 slices of duck ham for $9. My wife and I could not eat the duck, it was disgusting and the cheese was not enough for one person let alone two. I really wanted a piece of meat but at $41 for a 10 oz Delmonico ribeye I decided on something else. Wild boar was my choice at $31 and I was surprised at the size of the meal (really the lack thereof), the boar was good just not worth the money. Needless to say I was snacking on something 2 hours after I got home. My wife had the stuffed chicken which she loves and again it was good but the portion shrunk. Living in Canton we have been going there since it opened and all I can say is it used to be a better place. If you have to eat in Canton go around the corner to Goin Coastal. You might not get your meat fix there but the food is always good and at a fair price.

I've been here numerous times since my bumpy start with this place, and it has gotten much much better. The kitchen can still be a little slow at busy times, which is the reason for four stars, but otherwise this place rocks it now. The food is still delicious and the service kinks seem to have been worked out. (I.e. the series of bros who waited on me the first few times I went there seem to have been replaced with competent professionals.) Better yet, they are usually doing something interesting with the specials, so always pay attention when they're reciting them.

Not a great menu selection. I didn't want steak, so I tried to order a crab cake. It was $8 to add one to a steak, but you couldn't order it a la carte, so I had to pay $16 for the appetizer (which was two). Food was pretty good, but not remarkable. Service was lacking. I went the second half of the meal without a drink refill and no server in sight. All in all, it was good, but for $20 a head, never again.

This was a pleasantly surprising find in good ol' downtown Canton. Comfortable. Lively. Nice atmosphere, and a good menu. Bread arrives first with a tasty herbed, sun-dried tomato concoction for dipping. I got to try the Mushroom Ravioli and the Shrimp & Grits. Both were rich and savory--totally satisfying. The Shrimp & Grits had a very light, spick kick that enhanced the flavor of the dish without overriding anything. The Ravioli was dark and almost buttery. I'd have either one again. The seasonal vegetable was asparagus, which (I can't help myself) I just have to eat with my fingers. Wait staff was very friendly and the bartender was trading jokes with a few regulars. It was busy when I got there--testament to their great service. They don't take reservations, but do call ahead to get your name on the list.

I'm really sad to say that Downtown Kitchen's quality has gone down a bit. My husband and I went there on our stay-cation honeymoon. It was awful. I hoped to have some soup but they were out of both the soup of the day and the barley cheddar. Seemed odd since they had been open less then 3 hours! My husband had their fried chicken with bacon gravy and I had their hanger steak. The gravy on the chicken did not taste of yummy crisp bacon but rather dirty pan grease. It was terrible. The hanger steak was cooked beautifully but for the price the portion seemed way smaller than advertised. The dipping sauce that came with it also suffered the same as the gravy on the chicken. It was just way too heavy! After a few pieces the taste made me feel nauseated. The sides were passable. We both had the mashed potatoes. Our waitress was nice but then she started cleaning and seemed to forget about us for a while. We ordered dessert going with the bread pudding. My husband was excited to try it but when we finally got it the ice cream was melted already with clumps of ice shards in it. It looked as if someone had poured milk around the bread pudding. I asked the waitress about this and she went to check with the kitchen. It turns out their freezer was no longer working and so they still opted to serve us melted ice cream! They took it off our bill but I was shocked they would have sent it out like that to begin with! My husband and I will not be going back in the future.

I went here ages ago and finally got around to writing this review. Since I know everyone on the anonymous internet waits with bated breath for my lack of expert opinion on a very subjective topic like food, here you go!! Ambiance: Downstairs looked a little packed in, they have an upstairs serviced by an elevator (strange but true) that allows them to maximize seating and provide for an area for live music. We were seated upstairs and had brought the kids along. Since it was a bit late, we got a few stares when the kids walked in, but my children are well behaved, sit in there chairs and don't make a fuss. Just can't say the same regarding the other children that were there with us. Service: Because this place is so popular, service apparently goes up and down with how packed in it gets. I wouldn't say it is atrocious as everyone is friendly, but when numbers go up they do have trouble keeping track of it all and getting the food out of the kitchen. Not a really big deal, but they wanted to get the kids out for the entertainment, just hard to get them out of there by a certain requested time when the food takes 45 minutes to get to the table. I usually don't make a big fuss about waiting, but considering their timeline of how they wanted things to happen, they need to help us not vice versa. Food: I have had three dishes from this place, two were wonderful and the third was HORRIBLE. Mushroom Ravioli: Fantastic and delectable. Mushroom in every bite with a lovely sauce. Short Ribs: Easily my favorite meal here so far. Slow cooked, moist and falling off the bone over mashed potatoes. No complaints. Scallops: Well if you like shoe leather, then this is the dish for you!! Over cooked, dry and completely inedible. We would have sent them back but a couple of things made us decide not to: 1. They were the last dish to hit the table a good 10 minutes after everyone else at the table had been served. So the thing that takes the least amount of time to cook, took the longest amount of time to get out of the kitchen. 2. They were very clear that they wanted to shuffle our children out the door, even though their slow service forced the issue. 3. All of the crunky rednecks were dressed up for their night out and were none too pleased to see children. Had these individuals had lasers for eyes, my children would no longer exist. As a food place, I am willing to give them a pass on the scallops, because I know that a restaurant a couple doors down from this one is owned by the same people and always cooks them perfectly. Bad night I am guessing and might have rung up 3.5 maybe 4 stars. I feel I am a reasonable enough individual to realize that everyone can have a bad night, and if 2 out of 3 dishes are fantastic, then the line cook just screwed it up (even though they should have been caught and sent back at the pass). The problem I have though, is that putting pressure on customers to leave by a certain deadline yet taking 45 minutes to an hour from your order to produce food essentially forcing your customers to swallow their food whole, you essentially tell your customer that we will take your money, but don't really care about you. I rarely take people down a peg for service, but in this instance they just forced my hand.

OMG - you better go here for Jason's Ribs on Tuesday - Rib Night. They are hands down the BEST RIBS you will ever have! The rest of the menu is equally good. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great bar! Love DK. If you live in Canton - you don't have to go downtown to Buckhead for good steaks and food - the food is excellent - the quality is excellent. The Prices are excellent. The drive is easy.

I'm thrilled to see downtown Canton evolving into such a pretty little place. Since we'd had such a good experience with Goin Coastal, we decided to join some friends for dinner at Downtown Kitchen. It's in a lofty older structure with wooden floors and original brick walls. I agree with others in that it's noisy inside. Although I wouldn't recommend it for an intimate romantic dinner, it wasn't really that much of a big deal. We were seated quickly, and the server was pleasant and attentive. We started out with the calamari appetizer which was very good. The calamari were tender and the dipping sauce is a combination of sweet thai chili sauce and honey mustard. The entrees were a mixed bag, unfortunately. One of us had the bison short ribs which he said were awesome. One of us had rainbow trout which was apparently pretty good as well. I hate to say it, but the stuffed chicken was a big disappointment. The boneless chicken breast halves were small, overcooked and the cheese/artichoke stuffing was so sparse, it was more like a smearing. The table beside us ordered steaks, and they looked pretty good. I do think $50 for the delmonico ribeye special was a tad unrealistic though. Who knows? Maybe they were having an off night. In order to be fair, we usually hit a place 2 or 3 times before we make the decision to write them off entirely.

Visited on a Saturday @ 7PM Very nice - Bistro - bar style in Downtown Canton - Attentive and helpful service (Sara) - The room is very reflective, so conversation can be a bit tough. Warm bread with sun-dried tomato and balsamic vinegar spread was nice. Very good calamari (crisp, peppery, not oily) with sweet chili sauce (store grade). They offer a taste of wines before you order a bottle which is nice for an unfamiliar wine. Crab / Shrimp Cakes taste great but are a little too blended when they should be chunky. Fresh Green Beans were great. The Brisket was tender but would have benefited from further braising and more reduced sauce. Very good mashed potatoes to accompany. A trip back is a certainty.

I'm not that familiar with Canton but would probably guess that this is the best restaurant in the area. I went here with two of my girlfriends and the food and drinks were great! I sort of wish we'd gone on a Friday or Saturday because apparently they have an upstairs area where they have live music. Both of my friends had the mushroom ravioli and it was probably the best mushroom ravioli that I've ever tasted. I wasn't all that hungry so I had their grilled chicken salad and it was great. The portion was the perfect size for me and the tomato vinaigrette was delicious (I requested extra). If you're starving, you may want to order an appetizer because their portions aren't huge. Oh yea, and whatever sauce they have for the bread is insane! I don't know what it is but it's so yummy! Our server was great and they had a cute bar...definitely plan to go back here again.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Canton. I was so excited when I came back to my hometown to learn of this restaurant. Wow, how Canton has changed...and for the better! If you have a problem with a restaurant being noisy, this is not the place for you. I have been her too many times to count. They begin by bringing bread and with an amazing tomato dipping sauce. If only they would bottle and sell the sauce! I then always start off with the sweet potato chips with blue cheese dipping. I absolutely love their rainbow trout with the lemon butter sauce. The garlic mashed potatoes are to die for and the asparagus is tender and tasty. I have also had the scallops as an entree, no bacon wrap. You can ask them to simply sear and serve. It's a hard thing to cook scallops just right, and the Downtown Kitchen seems to cook them perfect every time. I have also had the crab cakes as an entree. I don't like the mustard sauce (just me), so I substitute for the butter sauce. Mmm-mmm good. I have also attended the party upstairs when City Council plays. If you haven't done this yet, I do recommend if you are looking to enjoy drinks and good music with many friends. This is no place to try to have a deep conversation, just good times.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago, Ordered the calamari appetizer - it was perfect - not greasy, but nice and crispy. I had shrimp and grits - very good - wife had the mushroom ravioli - done very nicely. Service was great - atmosphere was very friendly. This place is a huge asset for Canton!

I really want to like this place because downtown Canton needs an upscale restaurant. But I'm having trouble liking it alot. The menu choices are limited but reading them, they sound fantastic. This last visit I had cream of brocalli soup that was amazing, with a spinach-trout salad. The trout was dry and there wasn't enough dressing. My friend had the smoked pork pasta. The pasta was undercooked and the sauce was dry. We've been there several times and have been disappointed. Now, if you don't go there to eat, your experience will be fabulous. The atmosphere is cozy and the drinks are good. There are local bands playing on the weekend and the place rocks. I wish I could say the food was excellent. Maybe if I give it a try again it will be better........maybe.

This is a wonderful addition to Canton. Having grown up in this town, and knowing just how few restaurants there used to be, it's refreshing to see a place like this pop up. Every town should have an upscale place to eat. I agree with the other reviewers: this place can get REALLY loud. My best advice is that you get a seat away from the bar area. Wherever you sit will still be loud, but you can at least steer away from the obnoxiously loud guys bellied up to the bar, shouting over each other as they night goes on (my last visit was a table right by the bar -- trust me on this one). The food is yummy. You start out with bread served with this great oil infused with, I think, roasted tomatoes. Whatever it is, it's really tasty. Meals are served with either two sides, or one side and a salad. If you like to be sparing with the dressing, do yourself a favor and ask for it on the side. I've had the salmon and the corvina here. Both were great, but I have to say that the corvina is my favorite. It's not a fish you see on every menu, so it's worth a try! The wine selection is good. The sweet potato chips are good. I don't recall ever having had a bad meal here. They don't do reservations, but they do have call ahead seating (but allow for at least 30 minutes, per the hostess I spoke with).

DK is the best restaurant in Cherokee county Georgia. You begin your meal with bread and dipping sauce that is both unique and memorable. The architecture of the old exposed brick building and the atmosphere it creates is wonderful. The chef owns the restaurant and the service is great. The kitchen is open so you can see the staff at work and the food is fabulous. My favorite dish there is the swordfish streak. I don't know if it is available all the time but it was mouth watering and perfect. I would recommend DK as a beginning to a special and classy evening.

Downtown Kitchen is one of the decent restaurants in Canton. It has a good menu and some very nicely presented dishes. The service is inconsistent depending on the server and the size of the crowd. I had a special Halibut that was quite nice that last time I went. The Bar upstairs is a good place to have a cocktail if you are in to that. All-in-All a great place for Canton and a very good place for Metro Atlanta.

Have been numerous times over the past several years...but the last 2 or 3 visits were TERRIBLE!!! The service was basically non existent until it was time to pay the bill (gotta get that tip!), they were out of several things (even the bread for the table), one order was wrong & took forever to be brought back...I've just decided that after several REALLY bad experiences in a row...no more!!!

W-O-W. . . . . when my boyfriend first told me we were going to Canton to celebrate a special night, I almost put on the breaks! I cannot say enough GREAT things about this place! It started with the friendly welcome committee behind the bar! Every staff member felt like a friend. . . from Mikey behind the bar, to Alicia our server, and all the way to the manager Corey. . . . everyone treated us just like family! We started with the duck wontons. . . . yum on the mustard sauce! Oh, and I can't forget the bread and dipping sauce. . . I want that recipe! Would love to buy that and take it home! We had heard rave reviews on the Hanger steak which I refused to share. This is where the WOW comes in. . . . by far, the best steak I have ever had. . . that marinade was impeccable. Would put this steak against any restaurant in Buckhead, Midtown or Downtown Atlanta. I give this restaurant 2 thumbs way up and 5 bright shiny stars. Great staff, great ambiance, and GREAT FOOD! I can't wait to go again sooner than later!

Food and atmosphere is good, but one of our meals was delayed until everyone else had finished. They overcooked the fish and the chef caught it before it was served (which was good). They comp'd the meal but it was still very disappointing and put a damper on the night for everyone at the table.

I just ate here for the 3rd time. The first time was very good. The last two were not so great. My main complaint was service although the food seemed not as good. Had I rated for my first visit I would have given 4 stars. Hopefully this is just a glitch and the Downtown Kitchen team can get things worked out.

Terrible bar service! I did not eat in the restaurant downstairs but went to see a band play on 1/28/12. The band was good and the bar was packed which is fine but they only had 3 or so servers working that night so the service was absolutely terrible. My wife and I waited 15 minutes for our first drink from the bar and with both of us over 6 feet tall, it's hard to ignore both of us. They could have used 4 or 5 more servers up there to handle the volume. They also ran out of vodka which just seems Busch League. Surely there were some servers from downstairs that needed a few extra bucks that wanted to come upstairs to move drinks.

Expensive but worth it. The stuffed chicken is amazing and its 2 full breasts. One of the best cooked steaks I've ever had and the shrimp and crab cakes were delicious! Great experience every time I go.

Expensive, and out of keeping with the character of Canton. The place totally lacks ambiance. It has a chef, in addition to the cooks. They have live music at night, typically after nine. The place is loud and reflective though, so don't go to actually listen to the music, it just contributes to the background din. They've just opened up an upper floor - I haven't been upstairs yet. Perhaps the acoustics are better upstairs. Its located down a side street in downtown canton. Its not easy to spot, and not really worth the trouble of spotting honestly. The menu is small, and the food items aren't well prepared. Its the type place where businessmen take people for a power lunch, if they are just concerned with looks, and don't care about the actual food.

My girlfriend and I met here for lunch on a Friday. It was our first time there for lunch. We arrived about 1:20 p.m. We did not know they close at 2 p.m. I ordered the Tilapia sandwich with pasta salad. The Tilapia was breaded. The overcooked, hard breading made it taste like a frozen food fish fillet. The pasta salad was delicious. My girlfriend had a salad which she liked. We drank water and coffee. It was nearly 2 p.m. We wanted to share a dessert before leaving. I was very disappointed in our young waiter who claimed the restaurant was out of desserts. A table nearby had dessert earlier. I felt that he lied because he worried we'd linger beyond 2 p.m. I wanted to speak with the manager to verify there was no dessert but my friend said not to, we'd walk to the owner's seafood restaurant nearby to get dessert. We walked to the seafood restaurant which was closed. The young man working inside let us in to see the place. We told him Downtown Kitchen had no dessert. He said that's very difficult for him to believe. He couldn't remember either restaurant ever running out of dessert. So, my first experience wasn't the best based on the waiter's behavior and overcooked Tilapia. I will try it again if ever in Canton.

Excellent food in a big city atmosphere. Canton has needed this for a while.

Ok so this isn't your cheap bo dunk redneck bar that you would expect to find in downtown Canton. Upon walking in, this place reeks of class. From the laid back decor to the friendly staff this place is a must for excellent dining in Canton. During the week, when I visited the restaurant, I was pleased to have an experienced server. He was knowledgeable about menu as well as the contents of items that I inquired. I have spent almost 10 years in the restaurant business myself and have to admit that exposing the cooks is a comforting feeling, assuring me of the confidence in their staff. After dinner we spoke to the Manager on duty who was nice enough to answer our questions and show us the upstairs that was currently closed. He told us that John Michael Rose, plays on Saturdays, and this Friday they will be having Bruce Hampton and the Corporal Lions On the weekends I imagine the place can be a little load but sounds like the music they play is just down my alley. Needless to say our experience was much more subtle. The place is a little pricey but the price reflects the quality that you get at the Downtown Kitchen. The only thing in need of improvement is the wine selection. We were able to pick a nice merlot but I would have liked a broader, more hip, selection that corresponds with the atmosphere. It also may be a little hard to find but I assure you it is a "diamond in the rough."

Found this great hideaway place via Yelp. It quickly became a favorite place for my my wife and I. Great food, great service , great atmosphere!!!

Well done... no pun intended! ;)

I don't like that the tables are way too close to each other; crowded. Casual but reservation is recommended- don't even think about getting a booth! Hanger steak was tough & chewy. Service was just ok; she forgot to take my order for dinner: hello that's why I'm there; I had to request bread & water; they should assume that we're there to eat because we're hungry & thirsty! Not there to study :) . Desserts are unique & tasty. This place is pricey so be ready!

All I really need to say is "you won't regret it" and be done with the review. But, like a responsible Yelper, I shall continue. I only had one negative about our visit, so I will get that out of the way and move on to the good stuff. My husband made the reservation for our anniversary, asked for them to just simply recognize our anniversary (no freebies or anything) and they did nothing, said nothing. So that is always a little disappointing when you are celebrating something special and that ball is dropped. But, like I said, that was the ONLY negative. To give a little perspective, we just moved from the Tampa Bay area and have been exploring the area for good eats and so far have not been impressed with much. We came from an area of an eclectic mix of dining from fresh fish prepared in front of you on a dock to fine dining....and we experienced it all. I don't know how someone could've had a bad experience here...even if they are used to fine dining every single night of their life. We had Hanger Steak Wontons and spinach and artichoke dip for the appetizer. Both were fresh, tasty and came out fast. The only reason that we ordered the spinach artichoke dip was because the steak wonton app was not all that large in quantity and he was wanting a little more. But both were very good! The drinks were also really good! We tried a ginger drink that isn't on the online menu (and I can't for the life of me remember what it is called), but that was delish! It resembled a Moscow mule... My husband had a Caesar salad, New York strip that was cooked to perfection paired with their mashed potatoes. He loved every bite! I had the salmon with a pistachio butter that was cooked to perfection! Every bite was so delicious!!! I also had the mashed potatoes and green beans. I would eat that salmon every day if I could. We usually don't get dessert, but since we were celebrating our anniversary, we decided to splurge...even though we were STUFFED at this point. We knew we would regret it, but hey, who cares, right?! So, so, soooooo glad we did! The hubby got the bread pudding and devoured it; in what seemed like 30 seconds :-) He is critical of bread pudding because his grandma made the best...he said this was "grandma worthy". So that review should be enough! I had the peanut butter pie.....I was in heaven! I've never had it before, so I can't compare, but it was not super sweet, had the perfect amount of peanut butter and chocolate taste. I loved every bite, but had to give half to my husband because the slice was so big! Service, with exception to the above mentioned, was SPOT ON! Our waitress was so friendly and attentive! Add that on to the other friendly and attentive staff that circulated to serve drinks, pick up dishes, etc., and I would give them a 5/5 for service! Overall, you really can't go wrong with this place. Maybe people have had a few "misses" based on the reviews, but I can't imagine Downton Kitchen being anything less than a 4/5 stars! Check it out, you won't be disappointed!!

This is a great, fun, and independent place to eat dinner at. It's a wonderful option in the franchise-heavy suburbs. My service here has always been excellent and the food has been expected. That's not to say that the food is in anyway not good (it's great!); it's just not as special as you might expect from an independent place.

Really enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant. Food was outstanding and the service was great as well. They were extremely busy but the server kept in touch with us and let us know what was going on. I enjoyed the Hangar steak which I highly recommend and my partner had the pork chop special they were offering that night. This place is definitely some place that I will be a repeat customer!

Downtown Kitchen is a really nice place in Canton, just a couple clicks up from my new office. I imagine I will gradually become a regular here, at least as much as I can be referred to as 'regular'. The menu is pretty diverse... It's one that I will sample... I have tried a couple items... the stuffed chicken, seriously, is enough for 2 adult males. The flatiron steak is seriously tender, cooked to perfection... Their salads are really good as well. The man next to me last time ordered fried chicken and I almost took his plate. It looked that good. I will edit this review as I go back. Welcome to Canton.

I have eaten here on a few occasions and quite frankly it is THE place where I bring family when they come into town. In prime hours its a busy place and the downstairs can get a bit loud for casual conversations. The menu is eclectic and its fair to say that I have never had anything bad.

My husband and I will not be going back in the future.
went with friends for aHanger steak fix and was totally disappointed. Couldnot chew it at all.I was not offered a replacement but was comped a slice of yummy chocolate cake. I think I will be steering clear of my once favorite place ill I hear things have improved.

W-O-W. . . . . when my boyfriend first told me we were going to Canton to celebrate a special night, I almost put on the breaks!

Really cute place with a cool bar upstairs that has live bands. I had the fish special and my husband went with the Hanger Steak, both were very good. We had great service and the prices seem fair. Try it out.

Really cute place with a cool bar upstairs that has live bands. I had the fish special and my husband went with the Hanger Steak, both were very good. We had great service and the prices seem fair. Try it out.

Really awesome food. Always great service. One of the best restaurants in Canton.

Visited Downtown Kitchen last night. My entree (stuffed chicken) was fantastic, his (NY srtip) was just okay... The caesar salad and bread was quite tasty. We will absolutely go back!

So happy I did not stay at Goin Coastal. I enjoyed the 8 oz filet with salad n grits. I can't wait to listen to the band next Saturday

Our first time eating there and it was wonderful, the service was great! We went early in the afternoon with friends and was able to sit and relax and enjoy the meal. The meal was wonderful! Would be a great choice for someone

Wonderful atmosphere, food was delicious, service was fantastic. Definitely a place to remember to return if ever back in town.

I went here a few weeks ago with some friends for Moms Night Out. It was a Friday night someone had made a reservation. I showed up right at 7, that's when our reservation was, and everyone was being seated. Our waitress was very nice and knew the menu. She told us they make everything to order and if there was something we wanted that wasn't on the menu the chef could make it, as long as they had the ingredients. Our drinks were brought out relatively quickly but it took forever for our waitress to take out orders. She seemed a little busy, and they should have had more staff that evening. They bread and dip they had on the table was very yummy. The dip was made with sun dried tomatoes and spices it was very good, I wish I could buy it in a jar. One of the ladies at the table ordered the sweet potato chips, I am not a fan of sweet potato in general and they looked almost burnt. The kitchen was obviously busy and left the chips in the fryer a little too long. The ladies at my table ate all of them so they must have been decent, even though they were over cooked. I ordered the salmon with asparagus. About half of our party did. It was very tasty. The skin was nice and crispy but the salmon was very moist and delicious. The asparagus was cooked very well and seasoned perfectly. I would definitely come back and order it again. We shared 3 desserts between us. I ordered creme brûlée, a slice of chocolate cake, and a peanut butter dessert was ordered too. They were all very good. Over all it's a nice place, food was good, service was pretty good. I will probably come back.

Found this great hideaway place via Yelp. It quickly became a favorite place for my my wife and I. Great food, great service , great atmosphere!!!

Well done... no pun intended! ;)
(5)Lee W.
We've been back a 3 times and they already know us. All the menu items we've tried have been great and we'll go back again and again. Love this place.
(5)Steve D.
(5)Jeff P.
(5)Lynn D.
Great food great bar tender JR. we love this place we try and go once a week
(5)Hal R.
(2)Missy P.
One of our favorite restaurants!! Steaks rank up there with Ruths Chris and Stoney River at about half the price. My husband and I have tried many things on the menu and have not found a single thing we don't love.
(5)Jeremy B.
Very good place to eat. Inside was very spacious and had that trendy loft vibe. Food was just ok. Nothing dramatic, and honestly I think over priced for what you get. The bread course was really just a roll cut into 4 little pieces. Kind or reminded me of a child's plate, though I will say the dipping sauce was very good. The calamari appetizer was very good, and plentiful. The chili honey mustard was a neat play on the traditional accompaniment. Salad course was chaotic and very uneventful. Just looked like someone had thrown veggies on a plate, there was no presentation, no style. The stuffed flounder special ($36) was really just ok. The pork entrée ($24) was very good, and well seasoned. The risotto sides were..well..a little too al dente. Over all, definitely a cool little spot, somewhere you should try, but wont be in my stable of favorites.
(3)Bill T.
(3)Deb M.
went with friends for aHanger steak fix and was totally disappointed. Couldnot chew it at all.I was not offered a replacement but was comped a slice of yummy chocolate cake. I think I will be steering clear of my once favorite place ill I hear things have improved.
(2)Android I.
(2)Philip S.
(4)Andrew D.
(5)Amy Z.
This is a great, fun, and independent place to eat dinner at. It's a wonderful option in the franchise-heavy suburbs. My service here has always been excellent and the food has been expected. That's not to say that the food is in anyway not good (it's great!); it's just not as special as you might expect from an independent place.
(4)Becky B.
Awesome special occasion night. The steak was perfect and the peanut butter pie was sinfully delicious.
(5)Angela C.
Great experience! The bread and sauce is so yummy! Service on point, delicious food. And last but not least, a solid wine list!
(5)James Z.
(2)Frances S.
(5)Janel J.
(4)William Q.
My first visit to an unfamiliar restaurant based on yelp reviews. I was very pleased to find everything was as good as the reviewers stated. A completely wonderful experience. I am sold on yelp, and the downtown kitchen.
(5)Erich F.
(4)Balyn P.
(2)Susan F.
The best restaurant in NW Atlanta! Have never had a bad meal there in any of my many, many visits! Great staff, awesome and creative chef!
(5)Judy R.
(5)Helmut B.
(4)Theresa G.
A local favorite. I almost always get the hangar steak - you can't go wrong with this steak, marinated in a chili sauce and served sliced. If you're in the mood for comfort food, the kitchen fried chicken is delicious, and there will be plenty leftover to take home.
(4)Cassandra B.
(4)Wendell B.
(4)Bob O.
(2)Jennifer D.
(5)Trevor W.
(2)Brodie B.
Fantastic food and service!!! We will definitely be back. The pork loin was awesome!!

Best restaurant in the area. White linen service, knowledgable staff, terrific menu from a top chef, and great ambiance. We loved it, and will return.
(4)Mick D.

(4)Bridget A.
Really cute place with a cool bar upstairs that has live bands. I had the fish special and my husband went with the Hanger Steak, both were very good. We had great service and the prices seem fair. Try it out.

Visited Downtown Kitchen last night. My entree (stuffed chicken) was fantastic, his (NY srtip) was just okay... The caesar salad and bread was quite tasty. We will absolutely go back!
(4)Sunny B.
So happy I did not stay at Goin Coastal. I enjoyed the 8 oz filet with salad n grits. I can't wait to listen to the band next Saturday
(4)Jennifer N.
Really great food, I had the blue cheese brisket and I am still dreaming about it
(5)Sid V.
(4)Donna S.

(5)Aletha W.
Really awesome food. Always great service. One of the best restaurants in Canton.
(5)Jon L.
(4)Dee P.

(5)Doug H.
Food and atmosphere is good, but one of our meals was delayed until everyone else had finished. They overcooked the fish and the chef caught it before it was served (which was good). They comp'd the meal but it was still very disappointing and put a damper on the night for everyone at the table.
(3)Eric P.
I just ate here for the 3rd time. The first time was very good. The last two were not so great. My main complaint was service although the food seemed not as good. Had I rated for my first visit I would have given 4 stars. Hopefully this is just a glitch and the Downtown Kitchen team can get things worked out.
(3)David L.
Our first time eating there and it was wonderful, the service was great! We went early in the afternoon with friends and was able to sit and relax and enjoy the meal. The meal was wonderful! Would be a great choice for someone
(4)Cody B.
(2)T. C.
Expensive but worth it. The stuffed chicken is amazing and its 2 full breasts. One of the best cooked steaks I've ever had and the shrimp and crab cakes were delicious! Great experience every time I go.
(5)Richard L.

(3)Tim V.
Excellent food in a big city atmosphere. Canton has needed this for a while.
(5)Adam L.
(5)Donna J.
Wonderful atmosphere, food was delicious, service was fantastic. Definitely a place to remember to return if ever back in town.
(5)Philip S.
(4)Megan A.

(5)Sarah T.
What else can I say besides the food is great and service is always efficient. I've been eating here for years and I've never been disappointed.
(5)Megan K.
(4)Christopher B.
Well done... no pun intended! ;)
(5)Lee W.
We've been back a 3 times and they already know us. All the menu items we've tried have been great and we'll go back again and again. Love this place.
(5)Steve D.
(5)Lisa G.

(5)Andrew D.
(5)Hal R.
(2)Missy P.
One of our favorite restaurants!! Steaks rank up there with Ruths Chris and Stoney River at about half the price. My husband and I have tried many things on the menu and have not found a single thing we don't love.
(5)James Z.
(2)Frances S.
(5)Janel J.

The best restaurant in NW Atlanta! Have never had a bad meal there in any of my many, many visits! Great staff, awesome and creative chef!

(5)Trevor W.
(2)Ann T.

(3)Bill T.
(3)Deb M.
went with friends for aHanger steak fix and was totally disappointed. Couldnot chew it at all.I was not offered a replacement but was comped a slice of yummy chocolate cake. I think I will be steering clear of my once favorite place ill I hear things have improved.

Been here SO many times. I absolutely love this restaurant. It is one of my favorite places to eat anywhere. Awesome atmosphere, awesome food, awesome drinks, awesome service! Never had a bad meal here. I recommend the Hanger Steak , the Shrimp and Grits, and the Fried Chicken. Absolutely delicious!

I have eaten here on a few occasions and quite frankly it is THE place where I bring family when they come into town. In prime hours its a busy place and the downstairs can get a bit loud for casual conversations. The menu is eclectic and its fair to say that I have never had anything bad.

W-O-W. . . . . when my boyfriend first told me we were going to Canton to celebrate a special night, I almost put on the breaks!
(5)Doug H.

Our first time eating there and it was wonderful, the service was great! We went early in the afternoon with friends and was able to sit and relax and enjoy the meal. The meal was wonderful! Would be a great choice for someone

(5)Jon L.
(4)Dee P.

Really cute place with a cool bar upstairs that has live bands. I had the fish special and my husband went with the Hanger Steak, both were very good. We had great service and the prices seem fair. Try it out.

The best restaurant in NW Atlanta! Have never had a bad meal there in any of my many, many visits! Great staff, awesome and creative chef!

Wonderful atmosphere, food was delicious, service was fantastic. Definitely a place to remember to return if ever back in town.

(5)Trevor W.

Best restaurant in the area. White linen service, knowledgable staff, terrific menu from a top chef, and great ambiance. We loved it, and will return.

Visited Downtown Kitchen last night. My entree (stuffed chicken) was fantastic, his (NY srtip) was just okay... The caesar salad and bread was quite tasty. We will absolutely go back!

Really awesome food. Always great service. One of the best restaurants in Canton.
(5)Cody B.
(2)T. C.
Expensive but worth it. The stuffed chicken is amazing and its 2 full breasts. One of the best cooked steaks I've ever had and the shrimp and crab cakes were delicious! Great experience every time I go.
(5)Richard L.

So happy I did not stay at Goin Coastal. I enjoyed the 8 oz filet with salad n grits. I can't wait to listen to the band next Saturday

(4)Dee P.
