I really want to give this place all 5 stars but I can't because the service could be a lot stronger. Luckily this place is too good to turn away from just because of the longer waits. The patio is perfect during the summer time and it is great to sit down, listen to live music, and sip on good drinks. The food is always amazing. I love their hot wings and burgers. The prime rib sandwich is also a must order. This place truly is a dive bar, but in the best possible way. No complaints other then what was stated in the opening lines. Go here!

A real dive. Old beat up bar with some beat up looking characters hanging out. It's relaxed, which is good for a meal after a day on the lake. Easy to see the local appeal. Not a place to take the kids. Food was OK - on a bar food scale. I would go back.

This place is a dive with some of the best food ever! Just had the crab legs entree and shrimp app and it was very fresh! Our server Wendy was wonderful!

Food is great. Reasonable prices . Atmosphere is locals. You can get to it by water. But you will need flash lights at night Kind of a hike but worth it

Great food and a great, dive bar atmosphere. I can see why this is a local hangout. Don't expect fast service or for the staff to be fake happy. This place is real. The staff is friendly and laid back. We started with the fried mushrooms, which were delicious. My hubby got the fish n chips special. The tartar sauce is alright, but the dill ranch from the mushrooms with the fish was AMAZING. I got the Creole sandwich (see picture) and it was worth every penny. It was like being back in Louisiana. We'll be back.

The service sucks and does not deserve even 1 star! We came on a Monday night at 8pm and it was not very busy. Waited forever just for drinks and close to an hour to just get appetizers. Once we got our food the onion rings were ice cold and the waitress did not even apologize or anything. We will not becoming back here!

What a great evening! We ordered the Ultimate Burger and the Cajun Sandwich and both were home runs! The waitress recommend the Cajun sandwich and I was so happy I took her recommendation. The band was great and another good night at the Tavern!

Hands down, my favorite spot in Buford! Food is awesome, great prices, good stout drinks, great atmosphere, inside and outside bars, holiday parties, friendly staff, owner's that care about their customers! AND it's on the lake! Drive your boat here! Smoking is permitted inside.

Honestly, the food here is amazing and there is no where else in buford like it. The service is great from the bartenders to the wait staff. They play any football game you want on the the and can pretty much make you any drink you want. If you are wanting a nice local bar/restaurant this place is a must...

$$$$$$ Big Creek used to be my most favorite place in all of GA. Then the Owners found out that a Developer is planning to come in and buy them out, so they cleaned the 8" of dust off the air vent tubes if the ceiling, cleaned the place up and doubled their menu prices in order to increase revenues to pad the books. We used to drive out there 3 to 4 times a month to eat all thy way from Lawrenceville, but if I want to pay Outback prices, then I'll go to Outback and get a steak, not chicken fingers! They've lost my business. Too bad because I really did love their food but not at these prices!!

The only reason for a single star is the complete lack of service. We went on a Sunday afternoon that did not seem to be too busy and we waited for over 20 minutes just to be acknowledged. After chasing someone down and another 15 minutes, one of the 3 drinks arrived. Never had a chance to see if the beer was cold or the food good.....I can guarantee that the service was horrendous. After 45+ minutes before even getting a drink we bailed.

A true dive bar at its finest. Typical bar food. Has a nice patio with live music all summer. One of the only places on the lake with dock access. Service is good and friendly but there are a lot of local/regulars so be prepared.

I love big creek! It is a bar that serves food though. The food is great. I always get the chicken salad which is amazing. I haven't ever had anything bad there. The staff is great, and they have great live music on Fridays and trivia on Tuesdays. I moved from Buford to Decatur and I miss my favorite dive bar.

This past Sunday my family left after 45 minutes never being waited on. Several other groups left too. I saw 10 people walk out the door frustrated hungry and thirsty. They need a good manager to run the place and a wait staff with some hustle!!!

Very cool, fun atmosphere !! We started out with a drink at the outdoor bar. The bartenders were very friendly and provided great service. After a drink, we headed in for dinner. The menu is somewhat limited, but very appropriate for a Cajun / Country Tavern. I ordered the Cajun sandwich and the Mrs. had a burger. The food was very good and the portions were large. Service was a little slow, but they were very crowded and our server was super polite and pleasant. We will be visiting again !!!

3 Stars: sometimes a 2 and sometimes a 4. The service is questionable. There are 3 good bartenders/servers; the other 10 are terrible. Go there with minimal expectations and you should have a good time. Also, if you don't smoke, you need to plan to be there when you can be outside. The inside is usually full, with most people smoking non-stop. So I don't go in the winter or summer - but hey, it's nice there outside in the Spring and Fall.

There's one drawback - they allow smoking! The food is terrific though and the service is good. Supper outside is really a good experience.

Not much I can really add here, but I'll try. I really like the laid-back, be-who-you-are atmosphere, and the food is good too, although I think the burger selection lacks imagination..but makes up for it in taste! Parking is generally easy, and there's enough gravel and grass to get creative when there's a crowd. The aquariums are a nice touch. One time when there was live music, it wasn't obnoxiously loud- just the right volume. Service was good, although it seemed like there was a backup of tickets waiting to be rung up...I think they could only run one card every few minutes due to some technological limitation or other. But no worries; that's just more time to enjoy the groove of the place. Oh and being a Lotus owner/enthusiast, I liked the pictures of the owner's racing Lotii proudly displayed on the walls. :D

I can't say it better than Sarah S., below, but I'll throw in my two cents. Big Creek Tavern is where I always stop when I take friends sailing. Sometimes after a long day in the sunshine, nothing beats a cool, dark place with big juicy burgers and big, juicy beers. It's inexpensive, unpretentious, and just a fun place. There's a patio out back where you can smoke. There's a bar where you can smoke. There are ashtrays at the tables, where you can also smoke. Domestic and import beers are plentiful and affordable. The burgers are 1/2 pound monsters that leave plenty for lunch the next day. There's a dock out back where you can tie up your boat if you arrive by water. When you show up all sunburned and sweaty in your half dried bathing suit and a t-shirt, you are still better dressed than some of the patrons. There is nothing fancy about this place. It's just a good, honest bar and restaurant by the lake. Thank goodness for that!

My family and I really enjoy Big Creek and it's on our short list. First! It's a local bar that has a restaurant not the other way around. My family are all late teens or older. The occasional little kids running around doesn't work for me, but that doesn't happen very often. The food is very good. Excellent burgers. You can smoke there. It's a great place to meet up with friends and socialize. Normally, not a wait for lunch or dinner. Service is always "acceptable to excellent".

I've been coming to Big Creek for years and years and it has never let me down. It looks like a crappy, no frills dump on the lake but looks are very deceiving. The food is absolutely incredible and there are daily specials which are always great. You can get a burger (which are really, really good) or you can get filet mignon with a crab meat topping and some sort of wonder sauce. I highly recommend the hashbrowns (cheesy, oniony goodness), the collard greens (bleck, but my redneck friends love them), steak fries (yum) and the wedge salad with homemade blue cheese dressing. Their steaks are great, the burgers are surprisingly good, the grouper fingers are great and the ribs are pretty good. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. There is a pool table and a live singer on the weekends. It is a great place to hang out and they are one of the only restaurants on Lake Lanier that is open year round. You can go by boat, but the number of slips is limited. It's been a couple of years since I have been by boat but parking is limiited for boats over about 22/23 feet (there are two spots at the end). Otherwise if you have a small boat, you can fit it in a slip. Enjoy

My friend and I were up at the resort for meetings and the best meal we had the entire week was when we finally drove off site to Big Creek Tavern! The food was terrific and the service was great. We are from Savannah and are typically food snobs. The crab legs were the biggest and best either of us had ever seen. The atmosphere was laid back and the people were friendly. My only suggestion would be that they get a better website.

  • Diane O.

I love the flair of the hometown "lake" crowd. Come as you are, they will gladly accept any green money. The ribs and burgers are delicious. The beer is cheap and cold. Why only 3 stars??? SMOKING IS ALLOWED IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT!!! TOO BAD!! Unless you love a stinky, smoky incinerator, do not bother.

    (3)
  • Thomas B.

This is a little spot right at Lake Lanier with good food and friendly staff. Very small place and a little smoky but we were overall happy with our experience. I ordered the ribs which were surprisingly very good. Very tender and a great BBQ sauce. Will definitely return.

My friend's claim that this place had the best burgers was true. The food was amazing. Had to give the lower score due to lack of service. 15 minutes just to have the waitress get our order. An hour before we got our food. With 2 kids in tow who were hungry and the long wait kinda ruined the experience for us. Not to mention, we didn't realize you could smoke in the place. Other than that, we might venture back out for another try.
