Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Good thin crust pizza. Reasonably priced. They seem to do a lot of take out business. Probably because the inside is so small. Nice outside area for seating. Friendly staff every time you go in. As of now, no need to find another local pizza joint! Try the Red Velvet cupcakes...

We are hardcore Decatur "keep it in Decatur" people. However, when it comes to pizza, we have to go to the best pizza near by. Not only is real New York style pizza. The atmosphere is great. Friendly to locals and to new customers. The staff is friendly and courteous. The prices and the location are great.

This place needs better management. Just waited ~1 hour for a calzone and two slices dine in. People next to us ordered and had their food in 15 minutes. The managers/owners and their friend (presumably) were 10 feet away from us drinking cocktails and eating their dinner at the bar. They were bossing around the workers who were clearly overwhelmed and just trying to do their jobs. Were totally oblivious that we were sitting there for what seemed like forever, or maybe they just don't care. I don't expect this place to be around too long. Workers were nice and I feel bad that they don't have guidance. Avellino's is literally a 5 min drive and has great pizza.

I have had to cancel my last 4 orders here because they can not deliver anything within three days! Each time I ordered using EAT24. They have a countdown clock on your order. The first three times, I just let it tick away and after it passed (when my food was supposed to be delivered),I finally called. EACH time they said that they were really busy and would get right on it and it would take another hour. This was after waiting for an hour already. Tonight I gave them one more chance. I ordered a pizza, and the website said the pizza would be "guaranteed delivered" in 65 minutes. At the 30 minute mark I called and they said it would be "about 30 more minutes." That was cool with me. When it got to 60 minutes, I called back and they said, "we are really busy, it will be another 30 minutes." I cancelled again (because the last time they told me that it took another 2 hrs and they still had not cooked the pizza!) They have good food, but you will not get it delivered before you are dead. Maybe they should think about catering funerals.

First I have to say I ordered delivery and I did not dine in so my review will differ from a lot of the negative comments on here. I was told delivery time would be an hour and it arrived in 40 minutes, very impressive. I ordered the hot wings and they are extremely hot lol I would probably order mild next time. For the pizza order, I ordered the chicken and feta and I must say it is actually pretty amazing. A little greasier than what I'm used to but it's thin crust so the crust leaks more of the grease. I am impressed by this pizza place, I will be dining in next time though just to see what the restaurant is like.

They delivered my pizza promptly but it was way below my expectations. The entire bottom of the pizza was burnt. My son and I tried to eat some of it but couldn't. What a waste.

Urban Pie is a pizza joint located in the popular area of the Kirkwood village right across the street from Arden's Garden. I was extremely optimistic because I really like the restaurants in the area and I live in the area myself, so I was open mindedly venturing outside of my pizza comfort zone... (I'm a hardcore DaVinci's fan.) Unfortunately I was not impressed by the atmosphere inside, the service or the food. Before I get into the negatives, here's a couple positives; Pros: -Delivers within a four mile radius. -Spacious outside dining. My group and myself ordered the Kirkwood Luau Pie (Hawaiian) and the Grease Monkey (Meat Lovers). The flavor of the pizza was mediocre in my opinion. The ham on both pizza's was cubed and flavorless. Later that evening all of our stomachs hurt. Not cool :( Service was weird...to say the least. We had a waiter who was training. He was nice and polite. He would just forget little things, which was totally fine. But, then a trained waitress came by every table and had to point out that he was a trainee and went ahead and apologized for anything he might mess up...It was unnecessary and I felt bad for him because she was mean about it. But, then the same waitress would forget drinks and talk on the phone while serving us. She was less professional than the trainee. And the inside of Urban Pie, or lack there of, has sparse and cramped seating. Anyways, I'm sticking to my regular pizza joint.

I love pizza and am always looking for new opportunity to try out new pizza places. So I purchased a Groupon deal for Urban Pie when I saw that it was available. I called ahead and found they were indeed open on Memorial Day. Awesome! Unfortunately, it started to downpour on the way there so it was difficult to find where it was. But we made it! There is a small amount of parking designated to the restaurant on the side of the building. It was dead when we first arrived (though they were handling alot of deliveries, as you could imagine), but a number of folks trickled in over the hour we were there. The Groupon deal was for a 16" signature pie. We ordered the Grease Monkey without the ham or bacon. You cannot substitute toppings. No problem to remove. But you have to pay for additional toppings, even if you remove some. What?! So pepperoni and beef it was. We also ordered garlic cheese sticks. Figured this would actually be fried cheese sticks. But it was cheese bread. So what is the difference between cheese sticks and cheese bread? I have no clue. Came with a TON of marinara. It was pretty good for cheese bread. The pizza was delivered rather quickly given the backlog of orders for delivery (they were saying an expected 2 hour delivery time over the phone). I was not a big fan of the pizza. The ground beef pieces were so small! Like bits. And there was hardly any sauce. They can do WAY better. I thought about ordering a red velvet cupcake, but once I saw one of the staff eating one, I thought it was rather small and something I could make just as well or better at home. Thanks for saving me $2. Service was meh. You could tell that they guy serving us was new. One the staff even had to ask him his name. He had troubles processing some of the orders and needed help. He didn't check often enough on drink refills. And he had to ask us if we ordered cheese sticks once they got served up. Really- you don't remember our order? And who else would been receiving food yet since we were the first ones here. Anywho. Everyone starts somewhere. They were experiencing issues with delivery that evening. When we were leaving, a couple came in to return a pizza cause they received the wrong one upon delivery. That was after 2 hours of waiting. And they were told a replacement would take another 2 hours. I didn't stay long enough to hear the resolution of this issue. However, my friend (who works for another pizza place) indicated this is something that typically happens on crazy nights with bad weather. Verdict: I won't be back. There is plenty of better pizza out there.

Ordered several pizzas for a party, and they arrived exactly when I asked for them to be delivered. The food was delicious. Would highly recommend this place.

Burgers on the grill are great today with a margarita! Made by Lisa herself. It's a weekend picnic event for the summer starting at noon.
(5)Angie H.
This place is seriously amazing. Takeout rocks, dine in is doable, too. It's just. So.good. The house wine is really good. The best thin crust pizza you'll have. I mean it's really thin. They have gluten free options. Thin crust pizza, light sauce and great cheese portions. I completely enjoyed my experience here. Oh, did I add $5 slice of pizza and PBR every day from 4-6? And the cherry on top? Great service. 10 outta 10.
(5)Richard T.
i really didn't expect the food to be as good as it was, but it was off the chain!! i loved the quaintness of the restaurant! robert was the chef & he made a mean grease monkey pizza! the greek salad was fresh & the veggies were crisp & flavorful! the beer & wine were good as well! my overall experience here was awesome & i highly recommend this as a place to eat!! if you go in & robert is there greet him by saying "pot roast man, how you doing!"...tell him a satisfied customer from san diego referred you!! ;)
(5)Patrick P.
Ate at this place today and we were the only customers. Our pizza order took forever the pizza was only ok and the waitress didn't give us any drink refills. We will try it out again bc the location is great but first impression was terrible
(2)Andi' M.
We ordered a custom made large pizza, and a margarita pizza. We also included a half order of wings. Because we only live 3 miles away, we figured it wouldn't be bad to pick it up and bring it back home. We have two children, and one is 16 months old...so we really try not to burden other diners with our energetic children when we want to order out. I ordered the food online, and my husband left the house as soon as I clicked the submit button. He said it took him about 15 minutes to drive the 3 miles or so (Atlanta weekend Traffic). He waited 40 additional minutes after arriving for our food. Drove 15 minutes back to the house. I'm guessing that the food must have been prepared a while before he actually was given our order, because by the time he arrived back home with the food it was cold. Not warm, COLD! Even in it's coldness, the pizza was pretty good. The tomato based sauce was pretty average, but I could tell that the toppings were fresh. I just wish it would have been completed and presented on time, so we could have had a better experience. The price was more expensive than Fellini's , but Fellini's would have had prompt service and hot food. We won't return to this place.
(2)Renee R.
I regret giving such a low review since I'd like to patronize a neighborhood business, but the quality of the pizza, including the crust, toppings, and sauce, were individually and as a whole worse than any chain pizza place. I would have been better off with a frozen pizza. It was also fairly expensive--$24 for a large with 4 toppings.
(1)Junior M.
When I first came to Kirkwood this would have been a two star place, but now it's 4! A co-worker told me her family lived the pizza place in my neighborhood, and I said "really?" And decided to try it again after years of not going. I don't know what they changed, but it's great! Really good sauce, the pizza isn't limp and soggy, the salads are good and the service is great too. I can't wait for warm weather to make use of that awesome patio!
(4)Sam H.
Stopped in on a Sunday around lunch. Only one other diner there, we just needed a quick bite. We ordered a small pie to share, and it was the largest "small" I have ever seen. Bottom line, this is the best pizza I have had in recent memory. Wished i lived closer. I asked the server if they delivered in a 30 mile radius!
(5)Keith F.
The food was good and probably closer to four stars but the wait time was ridiculous. The service was friendly but scattered. We watched as food was delivered to other people first after we had ordered before them. I didn't get my salad until I asked for it again. it was quite tasty. In all fairness they were a little busy. The vibe here was friendly and I would definitely return here to try some other food.

We've ordered from here online via GrubHub, several times. We've never had any issue with the delivery from here, through them. The chicken wings are pretty good size and flavor. The only thing is, when you order them on GrubHub they don't give you a choice of dipping sauce so, they bring you blue cheese automatically. I am not a vegetarian, but I really really like their Urban Signature Pizza! I've ordered it more than any other pizza from here. The crust is nice and thin, the roasted garlic is not too sharp and really adds to the deliciousness of this pizza! I recommend getting extra cheese on this. My bf used to order the build-your-own pizza, and always liked them a lot. We've both tried the Gluten-Free Crustless Pie (which is also great for low-carb diets!) The time I ordered it, I opened the container & was pretty disappointed at how little food was in the pan. When my bf ordered it, he had Italian Sausage added to it. His portion was more generous than the time I ordered it. We both agree that the "thick base of spinach" that is at the bottom of this dish is not thick at all and that Urban Pie should work on taking more water out of the spinach, because it makes the sauce and everything else on top of it really watery. Over all, we've been pretty satisfied with the food here, and will continue to order from here in the future!
(4)Kelli C.
Last pizza I got from here was dry & tasteless. I decided to give Urban Pie another chance since Fellini's is not on my way home. Once again, I'm dissatisfied, my pizza was dry, tasteless and overpriced. It needed more cheese and sauce. They just wiped a smidge of sauce on the pizza. The salad was tiny and meh. They won't get another $14 from me. I'll always drive out of my way for Fellini's!
(2)Therealladyof L.
Went here again this evening. Had a Groupon for a Signature Pizza special. We ordered the "Thunderbird". It was fantastic. Fragrant becos of the pesto. The crust this time was thinner and crispier. EVEN BETTER for me! Oh this time I ordered the Spinach salad (Small) I will surely have that again. So good.
(5)Rebecca O.
Nice little pizza place in Kirkwood. The staff was all super friendly, but the pizza was just okay. It won't blow your mind, but it's good. They have lots of toppings though, and prices aren't bad. We also had the garlic sticks which was basically just cheese pizza without red sauce. There wasn't much garlic taste, so just a hint more could've helped. Overall, not a bad place to hit up if you're in the area.
(3)Jason S.
Pizza was OK. Not the best, and not the worst. Their crust appears to be homemade. I don't think the crust was particularly crispy, it was a bit limp and under cooked by my estimation. They need to turn up their oven. The pizza toppings seem fresh and tasty. The pizza cheese is quality, it was not breaking down. Their Greek Salad was sad. Lots of lettuce, a few slices of tomato, pepperoncini, and onion and maybe two olives. No Feta No Potato Salad The dressing was not a greek dressing, and the whole thing was tiny. They sold us an appetizer but charged as an entree, and almost all of it was lettuce. The pizza was better than most of the crap you can buy out there, but not spectacular.
(3)Kat V.
The delivery wait was 70 minutes but we had already gone through the selection process so we decided to wait. They finally showed up almost an hour and a half so that cost them one star. The pizza crust is delicious. I ordered a cheese pizza and a an arugula salad. It was pricey for just arugula and cheese. The dressing was perfect. The red velvet cupcake wasn't anything special. It was tiny, with almost no icing or flavor. They should stick to the cannoli and the tiramisu (which were FANTASTIC). My partner really enjoyed the tiramisu and the calzone. Apparently most pizza places over cook calzones and this was one was cooked perfectly. From the other reviews, it sounds like they need to work on their timing but if we aren't in a hurry, we will order from here again.
(3)Courtney P.
I ordered from grubhub a little pricey but I was hungry and it was late. I ordered a pizza wings and a salad and it all tasted great to me the lady that brought the food was very nice and I will order again!
(5)Alex C.
Good pizza thats close to home (Kirkwood/Edgewood). Between here and Fellini's its a toss up. I think Urban Pie does thin crust better, but if you want by the slice, this isn't your place. Service was pretty good and the beer selection was just okay, and a tad pricey.
(3)ANDREA Z D.
You guys definitely earn a rave review from me! Not only did you guys have easy online ordering (and delivery during the day), but the order was correct, on time, and the pizza was out of this world! You delivered to our charity function last minute with less than 24 hours notice and we really appreciate that! Those pies were devoured in seconds! Bravo!! Thank you so much for taking care of our delivery order -- fast and easy!! Best pizza in town!!
(5)Krysta B.
While the food is very good I do believe the items are overpriced. $2.35 for a regular pizza topping is a little excessive. I tried to order a small pizza one day with one topping and the total was nearly $20... For a SMALL pizza? Wow
(3)Dave S.
My wife and I ate at Urban Pie at the recommendation of a nearby Airbnb provider. The salad was good enough. But, the pizza was poor as the sauce was thin as reported by another commenter, almost like spaghetti sauce.
(2)Denise C.
Food was the slowest ever AND they treat their help like slaves.
(1)Donny F.
This is a very solid little pizza joint. The wife and I stopped here randomly last weekend while perusing properties in the area and had a great margherita pizza. It's very small inside--kinda divy--so we elected to sit on the patio, which proved good for people watching. The thin crust was perfectly baked on the bottom, crispy, and had good flavor. You can tell they use a higher-quality mozzarella than you'll find at a lot of neighborhood places. The sauce was bright and a little tangy--maybe not quite as flavorful as I would have liked. As with the best margheritas, they follow the less is more approach and let the quality of the ingredients and preparation shine through without creating a gut bomb.. We split a 16" and it was a good amount for two people with no left overs. All in all it was a very good looking pie and exceeded expectations. Our server, Elise?, was very affable and we never wanted for refills and the like. We didn't booze, but they had a pretty good list of bottled craft brews as well--no draft. Parking can be kinda scarce. Since it was a Sunday and we were sitting outside we went ahead and parked across the street at the Library, even though signage discourages this. There are better all-around pizza place in Atlanta--Antico and Ammazza come to mind--but Urban Pie isn't aiming to out-artisinal the big dogs and I applaud the quality product and friendly service they provide to the community. We'll definitely stop by again next time we're in the neighborhood.
(4)Kati M.
Hands down, favorite pizza place in Atlanta. It helps that is only a couple miles down the road so easy pickup, but the food is fantastic. My boyfriend grew up in New York and he's told me this is the closest thing to NY style pizza in town. We order from this place like once a week, it's that good. The crust is crispy, perfect proportions of crust to sauce and cheese with a lot of great topping options like prosciutto, pancetta, and roasted garlic. Also, they give you a coupon with each pizza box and after you get 12, you get a free pizza, got to love that.
(5)Sarah P.
This place has some of the best pizza I've ever had. So, let's knock the 'not so great' out before I talk about the good. Every time I order a pizza from here, delivery or pick up, it's near cold when I get to eat it. Sure, I get that the commute time takes away from its zinging heat, but I do wonder if it sits out for a while before it makes its way to me. Further, I think the price point is a little higher than I'd like to see here. But I continue to suck it up since their pizza is that great. Back to the awesome pizza. Their crust is so nice and thin and baked to perfection. There is nothing I hate more, as a non-crust eater, than big poofy chewy pizza crust. No ma'am. Further, this place has roasted garlic and kalamata olives as topping choices. If you haven't tried such a combination, you must. Add in some sliced Italian sausages and/or pepperoni if you are an omnivore like me. Once in a while I'll throw a salad in to up the health factor - the Greek salad is a great option and the spinach one is fab too. Sometimes the spinach seems inconsistent though - sometimes wilty/ragged or sometimes pert and perky. Hence, the Greek option that I have been getting these days. Service is always kind and cheerful. There is a woman who is always working whenever I call an order in or pick up who calls everyone darling or hon or [insert loving pet name] that is consistently friendly.
(4)Conley P.
We've only ordered delivery, so I cannot speak for an in-dining experience. But the food has always been fabulous. Quick delivery and oh so good!
(5)Hana K.
The Urban Pie's best feature is its location. I highly recommend the arugula salad - it's an amazing combination of flavors, especially the lemon basil dressing AND the spinach salad is great... the pizza offerings are pretty good, but not amazing. If you're feeling adventurous or want to try something REALLY different, their gluten-free "crustless pizza" is kind of an adventure. I ordered this a few times trying to figure out if i liked it but have stopped trying. It's made of spinach in a single-serving aluminum pie dish (think: lasagna-to-go) with some cheese (i think they can do vegan cheese) and whatever toppings you could get on a pizza, and almost floating in sauce. This is really not a good substitute for pizza. To be clear: a ton of spinach is nice but doused in sauce just wasn't all that good- and it doesn't seem worth $10.75 for one person. Also, we ordered from here for delivery sometimes until the driver texted my husband to ask me out... I guess he didn't realize whose number it was because I opened the door when the food arrived. If you live in the neighborhood and just want a casual meal out, this could be a really nice pizza joint/bar to go to... on the other hand, for a mind-blowing pizza experience, I'd definitely go elsewhere.
(3)Mike L.
Don't make it hard for me to order a friggin pizza. Had a Groupon for them and tried to call to order. Phone rings once and an automated voice says they are on the other line and tells you to call back in a few minutes. Are you kidding me?? Ten attempts to get through over 15 minutes and I gave up and called Mojos down the street and ordered with ONE CALL. .
(1)Lori F.
It's high time I updated this - I am loving Urban Pie right now. The staff there is SO nice and the pizza is definitely better and delicious. Whatever magic they put in their balsamic dressing deserves an award because I put it all over the arugula and on top of my Jackie-O every time. So good!
(4)Amber C.
Although the food is good and fresh, we have had issues both times we ordered for delivery. Today I was told that our food would be delivered in 45 minutes to an hour. After an hour had come and gone I called to check on the status. The same person who took my order (Elsa) said that it was just coming out of the oven and was on it's way. She kept making excuses and was not apologetic. I had to ask for a discount and was only then offered 25% off and a sarcastic "apology."
(1)Christina C.
I'm always craving roasted garlic for my pizza, and so few places actually offer it. So when I discovered the signature pizza here, I was delighted. The balance of toppings to crust is perfect. The garlic shines. And I had to try the cannoli - not too sweet, perfectly crisp shell (no sogginess here). Only reason I didn't give 5 stars, was that the garlic sticks barely hint at garlic. However, they were very gracious with my suggestion that they garlic it up a bit more.
(4)Amy C.
My favorite pizza place in Atlanta... The salads are super fresh, and the pizza is excellent. I'm so glad it's only a short distance from home. Haven't tried delivery yet, so I can't speak to that.
(5)Attaicus C.
We got in about 9:37 so they close at 10pm during the week. The service was very nice everyone was so friendly I order small arugula salad and spinach pie. My friend got barbeque chicken pizza. The service was great and the thin crust pizza , which I love thin crust was AWESOME... the only thing that was the drawback was the cost.. me and my roomie ordered individual pizza, w/ drink and I have the salad, the meal cost $38... thats kind of expensive for pizza, However I will go back to the place ...
(4)Chase C.
Once upon a time, I couldn't eat here as a vegan because they used lard in their dough. (Who does that anymore?) Recently we learned they had vegan pizza, so off we go. It was different from the vegan pizza we usually get (Mellow Mushroom, et al). It's not cram-your-face pizza. It's thin crust, light on the daiya "cheese", heavy on the veggies. We did a build your own with spinach, pineapple, red onion, & sundried tomatoes. Really, really tasty. Since we live in Kirkwood it's the most convenient pizza joint for us. It's a few doors down from our beloved Dulce Vegan, so it's easy to pop in there for dessert. It was pretty funny that my big old piece of dense cake was heavier than the pizza box. So why not 5 stars? No faux meat selection. I don't think ground tempeh would work o. This veggie-heavy pie (they go easpecially heavy on spinach), but some light thinly sliced chunks of marinated tofu would be a nice addition.
(4)Kendall T.
Average pizza and I thought it was overpriced. I would give them another shot because it was my first time eating their pizza. Nice delivery guy.
(3)Jack R.
Urban Pie got a license finally. No more BYOB.
(5)Matt M.
I read about this place but never heard anything about it. Since I am a self-proclaimed pizza expert, I decided to try it out. I came and sat at the "bar". Since they have yet to get their pour permit, I got a cream soda in a can. I passed on the appetizer since the smallest pie they have is 12". I ordered the Urban. Oh. My. Lawd. Perfect blend of flavor. No red sauce to be seen which delights me that much more. Cooked to perfection. Needless to say, I ate the entire thing.
(5)Amanda S.
This place was great! It has a fun interesting indoor atmosphere and a spacious outdoor patio with hanging twinkle lights. It feels like a legitimate neighborhood hangout. The service was very friendly and attentive. They have a great, rotating microbrew list, but we did think the beer was a little overpriced. The Greek salad was delicious, but the Caesar could have used more oomph. We shared the Thunderbird pizza which everyone loved. Our only suggestion is add more pizza options to the menu, perhaps with some unique ingredients (see menus for Katie's and Dewey's in Saint Louis).
(4)Shannon M.
Before I discovered Avellinos I wrote a draft review that went something like this: "Love that thin crust. A bit spendy given the size of the pie, but good ingredients." Post discovering Avellinos--I classify this spot as the place to get pizza for your kids. The crust is 'meh' It'll fill you up, but crack-pizza, it ain't. Use your SparkQuest to take away some of the pain price-wise.
(2)M.A. J.
I had a pizza and dessert delivered to my home. Both were tasty, the pizza is about as close as you'll find to NY / NJ style pizza in Atlanta. Delivery on the other hand was an issue. Took 90 minutes for the food to arrive and the pizza was cold. Part of the order was missing because they'd run out and they knew this when they packed the order at the restaurant, yet they had not reduced the tab for the missing food. Dessert came to us upside down in the box. If you're eating in or picking up, it's good food. If you're looking for delivery, look elsewhere.
(3)Deb B.
I hate giving a 1 star to anyone. UP is in my n'hood and I've tries so hard to give them my business. I have taken so many of my friends there, so now people from all over the perimeter know how bad the service is! I have been countless times before they got their liquor permit. The thought of bringing my own was a good thing for a while. I LOVE their pizza! I dig thin crust pizza. The service though.... The WORST service in America! I have complained every visit for inexcusable delays and never got free anything. When I drive by, I am amazed that they are still open. There is no excuse for such bad service. I have waited over 45 minutes for a salad, while my server was sitting at the next table smoking. I refuse to EVER step foot in that place again!
(1)Joann C.
Great little place. Authentic New York Pizza with fresh.ingredients. If you like good hand tossed pizza, this is for you. Delicious!!!
(4)Kathleen M.
I love Kirkwood, I love pizza, I love arugula, I love Urban Pie. And heck yes, they deliver to me! Nestled on the corner just beyond Kirkwood Aces lies Urban Pie, a charming little pizza shop. They've only got a few tables inside but boast an impressive patio for the warmer months: the set up actually reminded me of many Fellini's locations... but better (and yes, I am a Fellini's fan, no lie). Their pizza is a crispy thin crust which is probably my most favorite. I also love the upper-crust toppings like smoked gouda, artichoke, and fresh spinach. We went with the Urban Signature pizza which I would heartily recommend: it is super flavorful without being overwhelming or greasy. Certainly an "adult" pie with fancy toppings like roasted garlic and feta, but it still tastes like a pizza. I'm so over the BBQ chicken pizzas and other crap that don't taste like what I'm craving (although they have those too, if that's your thing). We also ordered the arugula salad which goshdarnit may have been the best arugula salad I've ever had. There wasn't much to it: just greens, parmesan cheese, and lemon dressing but oh man was it delicious. The dressing balanced out the bite of the arugula resulting in total salad nirvana. I can't imagine coming here without ordering it. The two of us (who were mighty hungry) ordered a large salad and a large pie and had a bit leftover. Given that it's currently BYOB (take advantage of the BP across the street!) this is a very cheap night out and a place I'm looking forward to hitting up again. Soon.

It is no longer BYOB, but I am still a fan of Urban Pie.
(4)Tressi J.
Salads are what stands out here to me. Pizza is fine....not my fave, but stlll good. I like the addition to the neighborhood.
(4)Michelle B.
Its been awhile since I had pizza that reminded me of NY. I must say Urban Pie is absolutely delicious. I could not wait for my slices to cool (roof of mouth was killing me). Love the thin crust but mostly the pizza has tons of flavor. They have a weekly large pie deal. They also have really moist red velvet cupcakes they make on sight. Urban Pie is a great Kirkwood restaurant. I don't live near Kirkwood but made the 30 minute drive. The pizza is worth it.

I never write reviews after one bad experience, but now that I've been twice and had yet another bad experience I feel compelled to write a review. 1st time-Ordered pick-up and upon arriving well after their suggested time to pick up it took 20 minutes to ring me out! I stood at the register and no one said hello to me for about 5 minutes. They were busy but there were enough servers back and forth to the counter that someone could have said, "hello." I could see my to go food in the kitchen window and after 10 minutes of waiting I spoke up and said, "I'm here to pick up my food that's in the window." She looked behind her and continue her other task. She was frustrated about something, walked off and then came back to check me out. Once she gave me the food I checked it and the order was wrong on a salad. I impatiently said forget fixing it, I'll just take it. Then, after giving me my bill she walked off and I waited another 3 minutes to give her my card. I live 2 minutes away by car and I was gone for 20 minutes. 2nd visit earlier this week-ordered again pick-up and they tried to give me another persons order without checking it. Once we squared it away I looked at the bill and was shocked at how expensive our order was. A small veggie pizza with one add one item came to $21 is not worth it! It wasn't even worth it after eating the mediocre selection. Their salad is good and that was the one plus of the this order. Would LOVE to continue to support the local business, but after terrible customer service and over-priced mediocre food there are better options to walk or drive to for food.

I give it 4 stars because the food was wonderful and not 5 because the wait time was way longer than I thought it would be. The staff was very friendly and because I'm a block away they called me when my order was ready for a pick-up. Nestled in what has become a great little neighborhood called Kirkwood - Urban Pie is a gem of a pizza place. The price of a plain cheese pizza slice is well worth $2.75 - other toppings are additional. To my slice I added Italian sausage and Jalapenos peppers. The slice was huge and I do mean larger than a NYC pizza slice. There was no pizza grease running down my arm which is the standard by which all pizza slices are judged-it's the old NYC pizza slice test. There really is no comparison to a NYC pizza slice because the crust is thin and delicate with the perfect amount of crunchiness. The small Greek salad was wonderful and fresh to go along with my pizza slice. The Red Velvet Cupcake with it's silky smooth icing was the perfect little dessert-which by the way is made in-house. So, if you're not in a hurry, enjoy great food with a nice ambience -Urban Pie might be the perfect choice. Overall, it was a positive dining experience and I look forward to my next visit to Urban Pie in Kirkwood.

We got delivery. The Urban and The Grease Monkey. Delivery was right on time and friendly. The pizza was neither friendly nor did it know what time it is, which is, in fact, time for someone to open a really good pizza delivery place in the neighborhood. I'd order from UP again in desperation, but only begrudgingly. Soggy crust, so-so ingredient quality... Maybe dine-in is a better choice.
(2)Ashley B.
I feel bad that I haven't been here before! This place is awesome! Even if it is BYOB, that means it is cheaper for your wallet (that doesn't mean you tip less, they still are cleaning up after you and your drinks.) They also have a crustless pie for all you gluten free people out there!!
(5)Robert A.
Upside:Pizza was decent, dug the thin crust action. On the Downside: the wait time was to get my order bordered on ridiculous. I was told it would be 35 minutes, which is already kind of silly for just a single uncomplicated pizza. It worked out to be about an hour though. Wow! Maybe they just have a really small oven and can only cook one at a time. I'd get another carry out pizza from Urban Pie, but next time I'll know to place my order waaaaay in advance.
(2)Katie C.
I order here usually when I am in a bind and have recently started kicking myself! I love their pizza but get so freaking annoyed that EVERY TIME I call, I have to give my full name, my full address, my phone number...blah blah blah. It is EXTRA annoying when I have to repeat myself multiple times because the girl on the phone can't hear me... I can call other (local) pizza places and they have it saved in a system by my number - so much easier. Until they get a system that is compatible with 2012 - I'm moving on! So FRUSTRATING!

I love pizza. I'm from Chicago, I've studied abroad in Italy, and pizza could hands-down be one of my favorite foods. Urban Pie's pizza works out just fine. I'm not saying it's the best pizza I've ever had in the world, but if you don't feel like cooking on a Sunday night, it's a lot better alternative than some greasy chain like Papa John's...albeit way more expensive. If you want to try and feel healthy by getting a salad, I would highly recommend the spinach salad - it's not totally the same if you get it delivered or to-go, but still alright. If you eat there, it comes out already tossed in their awesome homemade balsamic dressing...very good. I don't know if they just added some new things or I just plain missed them before, but they have calzones and some other options now, and I ordered a calzone the other night instead of pizza. I'm not a fan of calzones that have tons of ricotta and very little mozzarella and the ratio in this one was perfect. I cut it in half so I could have something for lunch the next day and it was actually better the second time around. The service complaints are sort of justified, but I've never had a problem and everyone is generally very nice. However, if you live in the area, just go pick it up. Delivery can either by 35 minutes or close to 2 hours, which has been the case the last two times I've tried to have it delivered. Both of those times I ended up having to go in and pick it up myself. If you live in the area, give it a shot - it's good enough pizza and you're supporting local businesses. I also think they're trying to get their liquor license back, which would be a huge benefit to them...
(3)Leah B.
Urban Pie is delicious, fast and super friendly. The best thing on the menu is the calzone. We really like it with ground beef, onions and green peppers like a cheese steak. They also have a special right now: $10 large one-topping pizza. When we order, there are usually two adults and two kids here, so we adults split one calzone and have some pizza and the kids eat 1-2 slices of pizza each. That makes our grand total $20+ tip for a family of four (usually with leftovers). We live in EAV and they deliver...they even deliver to the southern part of EAV. Update: the last many times we've ordered, the pizza crust has been burnt on the bottom like half the time. So, I just don't order pizza from them that much anymore. Update 2 (March 2014): It's gone from a 50/50 shot on getting a burnt pizza to 90% of the time it's burnt and 10% of the time it's almost burnt. The hubs and I ordered just last night, and I absolutely couldn't eat it. I may contact management, but I do think it's basic food sense to say "Is this burnt?" and if the answer is yes, don't send it out for delivery. If it were a one time thing, I'd let it go, but it's been every single time, so I think I'm just done with this place. Update 3 (November 2014): YAY THEY GOT THEIR CRAP TOGETHER AND STOPPED BURNING THE PIZZA AND IT'S DELICIOUS NOW! YAY!
(4)Travis M.
Hands down THE best pizza I've had in this city. Yes, it is more than Sbarro or whatever other crappy "Chef boy am I hungry-esque" pizza most folks eat but I don't mind paying more for a quality product. Awesome, friendly, patient staff and a cute little eating space. Kirkwood's hidden gem.
(5)gabriel m.
I have updated the rating to 4 stars now that they are running a tighter ship and my pizza is showing up warm and fresh.
(4)Vincent M.
Passed this place dozens of times, never really thought about stopping in. Great look on the outside but nothing really calling us in. The other night we ordered a large shroom pie for delivery. Great thin crust pie, wouldn't load it up too much it's that thin. Crust was really crunchy and tasty, sauce was a bit sweeter than I am used to but good, shrooms were fresh. Also ordered a greek salad which was very fresh, great mix of feta and olives. Next time we pass by we will be stopping in.
(4)Dave S.
When the delivery guy dropped off my pizza he asked me if this was my first time ordering pizza from Urban Pie. I said yes and he smiled and said that I was going to love it. Boy, was he right. That pizza was the best pizza I have ever tasted. And I lived in New York for 8 years so I know good pizza. This pizza was amazing!
(5)Cricket B.
OMG! In love with this pizza joint! The Jackie O' which is topped off with Arugula is to die for...I could eat it every day...seriously I could. Also super in love with the BBQ chicken pizza...just fabulous...the breadsticks rock and although I've not had one myself, I have witnessed what appeared to be an amazing Calzone! yes, this is my pizza go-to place...LOVE IT! The thin crust is fab! MMMMMMMMMMMMMM......Just go!
(5)Crissie H.
I live right down the street from UP, and I NEVER go there! That's a shame, because I want to support local businesses, but this place is just not good. Their pizza is a little above average, but it is very expensive and not worth the price. I love lots of things about it - the workers are friendly, the inside and outside seating are both kinda cool and very clean. (What is up, though, with the crack hoe on the mo-ped delivering a pizza?) I'm talking about the painting on the outside wall. My complaint is based on their prices, and the value - price ratio being way out of whack.
(2)Troy H.
break out the champagne ma! whats the occasion you ask? My first ever 5 star review. I love Urban Pie; so much that I can't wait to go back. For starters the pizza is on point. It's probably the thinnest thin crust pizza I've had in ATL, and these folks do it very well. The trick to thin crust pizza is not to overload it with too many toppings. This of course requires that the basic crust, sauce and cheese be of high quality. I got a large spinach pizza and wolfed down half of it in one sitting. *oink* I also loved my arugula salad. The arugula leaves were fresh bunches of yummy green goodness. Now to be thorough, there was a mix up with my order - I called it in and wound up having to wait an additional 5 mins on arrival. Lemme tell ya, the way they fussed over the mistake you would have thought they accidentally pushed my gramma over a cliff. They were so apologetic and made up for it by giving me a free dessert and salad! More importantly they were very appreciative of my patronage; good customer service is so underrated. I walked into the pizza joint, in a kind of melancholy mood given that I am recently single and no longer have a boyfriend who I can go out to eat with at potential yelp reviewable eating establishments. But I left Urban Pie feelin all cozy and loved. Pathetic, maybe, but they have won a loyal customer. Urban Pie...GOOD. Failed relationships...BAD
(5)Ben G.
I love their pizza! Coming from "the north" I feel pretty snobbish about pizza. It';s can't be too chewy or too thick and doughy. I mourned leaving Boston for Atlanta b/c I didn't think I'd find pizza that felt right. Well I was wrong, so wrong about that. Urban Pizza has some of the best pie in east Atlanta. They deliver too, which is great, but not a big deal for me since I live across the street from them. The only downside was once we ordered from a friends house and were put on hold, then disconnected, twice. But hey, it coulda been a bad night.
(4)Stephen M.
An Update: Well, The pizza finally showed after 75 minutes...and after we'd sent out for other food. So we turned them away. BUT they came back. With free a free pizza. And an apology. So I think that it's at least worth a second try. The pizza was pretty good, despite being half-full on crappy fast food. Which was ill pre-pared, but that should go in another review. Original review: BOO! New to the neighborhood & just placed my 1st order. It's an hour later, the pizza's not here, and they can't explain anything. Two phone calls later, and the best they can do is try and start over. EPIC FAIL. This is "never go back again" kind of service.
(3)Michael D.
Love this neighborhood pizza place. Pizzas are really special. So are the salads. Staff will really treat you well, and you'll be happy you tried these recipes! Pizza done with pride.
(5)Joel C.
Stopped here for a snack after a busy morning visiting all the Green Markets as well as the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park. David ordered the Arugula Salad and a slice of Sausage, Mushroom and Basil Pizza. I'm a simple guy and got a slice of Cheese and a slice of Pepperoni. I tried some of Davids salad and it was really good! David is a huge fan of thin crust pizza and really liked it. I like a bit more dough (heck, my favorite pizza is Deep Dish Chicago) but thought it was good...could have used a bit more sauce though. The owner and all the ladies there were very nice and friendly and made us feel at home. Oh and they now deliver and can deliver to my neighborhood in Castleberry Hill! Definitely love small places like this were you can interact with everyone working and feel like a regular!
(4)Lori G.
The pizza is good! Therefore 3 stars. They don't have beer to go with the pizza therefore no more stars. No frills or thrills, simply a good pie with crispy thin crust.
(3)Herman N.
Two years later, and I have to come back and regrettably remove a star from this already low rating. I called last night for a delivery order and got put on hold THREE TIMES in a two-minute conversation--again, treated like an afterthought. Then, when my pizza arrived, it was cold once again. I'm all for giving a local business the benefit of the doubt, but it's clear that Urban Pie doesn't want me as a customer. Good luck, folks. I'll be surprised if you make it through 2011.
(1)Moonie M.
Customer Service was horrible when I went. But I think they got rid of that girl she wasn't there long. I love the salad dressing but their pizza's WEAK. The cracker crust is not synonymous with NY pizza. Im from Brooklyn, NY and that pizza is NOT NY pizza. Savage Pizza is more NY pizza than anyone so far.
(2)Ryan S.
EXCELLENT! My mouth just started watering thinking about the pizza that I wanted to "review" here. DEE-LICIOUS! Love the thin crust, loved the toppings, all of it. I'm going back again tomorrow!!

My hairdresser suggested I try Urban Pie last night after he finished shaping my locks. It was dark, and I'm not familiar with Kirkwood, but he told me to start looking for the "We Deliver" sign once I hit the BP. Tracy, the girl working behind the bar, immediately made me feel comfortable, making small talk, fixing me a delish glass of sweet tea. I ordered an Urban Signature Pizza (a thin crust brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with mozzarella, roasted garlic, red peppers, spinach, red onions and feta) with pepperoni added. Three thin slices were surprisingly filling! The space is really small, with a little bar at the front and a few tables behind that, contributing to the intimate neighborhood vibe. The owner, Lisa, even sat munching a pizza at the bar while I dined. It was amusing to watch the dialogue between her and another employee, who sampled one of the pizza's banana peppers, even though she's allergic. "Her lips swell up like this when she eats banana peppers," Lisa gestured and explained. "Too bad it doesn't work on my [boobs]," the employee sighed.
(4)Laura D.
You have to try their italian dressing. It is to die for. Thick and balsamicy yumminess in a little plastic cup. The pizza has been hit or miss for me. Really like the BBQ chicken, not so much a couple of the others. It's really all about the salad dressing for me.
(4)Kat ..
Ate here once pie was OK would like to try today but they are closed. The owner was really cool
(2)Ami K.
Hands down the best veggie pizza I have ever eaten. I was craving another slice for days after I left that place. When I went back, I learned it was family owned and operated. No wonder this place was so friendly and laid back! While it doesn't have the glamour of more popular pizza fare (Ã la Antico's), I guarantee you will not regret having just tried this place out.
(4)alyson l.
Small building - old gas station, small menu - mostly pizza in two sizes large and individual. Its served super thin so two hungry people can easily polish off a large pie. The toppings are a little expensive to 'create your own' and the specialties are not to my liking unless I'm in a Jacki O mood - arugla pizza. The last downside is that the only way to get delivery is through Zifty - which means a 30$ pizza. But there is no where else, from where I want a large pepperoni pizza. perfect crust everytime. delicious.
(4)David B.
I'm looking for a new go-to pizza place (good, reliable, interesting), and Fuel is definitely in the running. I've only ever had the basics here (cheese pie, pepperonni pie, sausage slice), but so far so good. It's also good that these guys finally got a beer and wine license. Next on the list is to try the more intriguing, if slightly pricier, specialty pizzas. An online menu would be helpful in this day and age.
(4)Tiffany L.
I give Urban Pie a 3/5 b/c their customer service is good and they have great red velvet cupcakes. The pizza is by far the worst I've had in Atlanta. I have tried it over and over again hoping it got better but its the same thin flavorless pizza every time. This place also has a really nasty weird smell so don't sit at the bar b/c it smells the worst there. The prices are also pretty high but I chalk that up to paying rent in kirkwood.
(3)Erin O.
Ok, Urban Pie. You have won me over again. We ordered take-out on Saturday. It was delicious & it seems like the prices are lower.
(4)T F.
I ordered a large mushroom and sausage pizza (posted pic)...the pizza was burned on one side and barely had any toppings, I don't even think there was 2 whole mushrooms on the entire pizza & hardly any of the super thin sausage...not that good of service either...would love to support a local business but im never going back.
(1)Carol H.
I loved the spinach salad--the dressing was awesome. The BBQ chicken pizza was wonderful, my favorite so far. The service was attentive and prompt. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Cloe G.
I love Fuel. The servers are very attentive and friendly! The pizza is definately my favorite in Atlanta. And those Red Velet cupcakes are to die for!!!
(5)vincent d.
Truly some of the best pizza i've had in the southeast. I'm from NJ and this is almost as good!
(4)C C.
I order from this place a lot and I'd say it's better then the chains, but not outstanding. They generally have a $10 large pizza deal which makes it a pretty easy choice when it comes to ordering a pie.
(4)Nicole M.
I think i have started off most of my reviews with "This is my favorite..." but honestly, this is my favorite pizza place in Atlanta. So, if you want non-fancy pants pizza, this is your place. They do have some fancy toppings, but for the most part, this is a simple pizza place. Last time I was there, the owner was trying to get the liquor license worked out so last I knew, there was no beer to be had with the pizza. You can see the pizza cooks throwing the dough in the air which always look cool. The salads (probably my favorite food) are great too. It's a cool neighborhood with more and more businesses opening every day.
(4)Wendy H.
I like the place. Old service station building (Sinclair?) with a few tables inside and more outside. Mostly pizza menu with whole pies, slices and salads. Good, friendly, chatty servers. I had a slice with three toppings (around $4) and my friend ordered a small specialty pizza (around $12). I got the better deal but he got the better pizza. The thin crust is delicious and light (I think the friend with the small pie felt cheated - he wasn't full after nearly polishing off the whole thing) and the cheese quality and toppings were good. They serve beer and wine and wi-fi and cannolli for dessert.
(4)Lauren D.
I've been trying to order from them for months but considering they never answer the phone we've assumed they were undergoing some renovations or something. I called again last night and after about 10 rings, just when I was about to hang up, someone ANSWERED! I spoke with a nice man who helped me place my order: Hi I'd like 3 slices of...oh, you're out of slices? Um, ok, how about a medium pie with...oh, only small or large pies? Ok....(Seriously, what pizza place is out of slices? Not, we don't serve slices, just we're out. Blows my mind) When I arrived to pick up my order I had my first encounter with who I assume is Lisa the owner. I make this assumption based on the other reviews I have read today which describe a rude woman who seems to wish you hadn't wasted her time spending money in her restaurant. I took a seat and waited while my order was being finished. After a while I saw the cook put my order in the window suggesting that it was ready. Lisa, however, didn't seem to understand that and headed back to the kitchen to work on something. A few minutes later the cook reminded her that my to-go was ready and she told him she knew that. After few more minutes Lisa finally appeared and handed me my food which had been ready and waiting for probably 5 minutes by now. While walking out the door the cook yelled, "did you want basil on that?" Uh, yeah. That's why I ordered it with basil. "Yeah, bring that back," the cook shouted, "I forgot the basil." Once I got my raw basil pie home and opened my box-o-salad, I was hoping that the food would make up for the service. I picked all of the brown lettuce and dried up mushrooms out of my salad and clumped the vinaigrette dressing/pudding concoction over what was left and realized that this food wouldn't make up for anything. It might be a handy door stop though....
(1)Matt M.
My favorite pizza in Atlanta. Perfect thin crust with fresh toppings, tasty sauce, and some unique flavor combinations. The staff and owner are also super friendly.
(5)Lance R.
Ok, save for Johnny New York, most people, myself included like this place. It has character, horrible service, we only do take out, and great food. We do the greek salad everytime as it's fresh and the dressing, my god the dressing... It's just that good. We generally make our own pie, but we've never had a bad pizza from them. It's thin and crispy and you can fold it, blah, blah, blah. It's easily my favorite place in atlanta for a pizza I can eat and not feel too guilty about eating. And the owner... well she's just the best there is. I never leave this place without feeling like I've stopped in at someone's place that I adore.
(5)Shelly W.
This place is horrible! My husband and I live neighborhood and have tried this place several times in lou of supporting a local business, but must say they really need to get it together. Horrible service, ice cold red wine ( because they have to freeze it to keep it from going bad), and okay pizza. Would continue to visit, just to get an occassional slice, but they always have such a bad attitude. No thanks.
(1)Kristen S.
I love their pizza. I skip the fancy signature pies and create my own instead. I highly, highly, highly recommend a large pie with pepperoni, pancetta, and basil. It's to die for....it instantly takes my tastebuds to NYC. The spinach salad is also great, and the balsamic vinaigrette dressing is wonderful. Parking can be an issue, so my husband & I usually walk. Delivery would make it even better, though!
(5)Amy C.
Am suprised by the slightly negative reviews. Everytime I call the staff is SO polite -- even telling me they value me. Haven't had anything but the pizza but it's been good everytime. Once a new kid got lost and the pizza was cold but the owner went out of her way to make it right. I totally recommend them.
