Came to ATL on business, and wanted somewhere close and decent to eat for dinner. Came across The Rusty Nail on Yelp.com and decided to try it out! I am so glad I did! The place is small, but had seats available, there is a smoking and non-smoking section which is great! The best part was probably the giant smoker that is in the shape of a revolver gun! Loved it! The food was excellent! I had the house lasagna, which was such a huge portion, I ended up taking the rest back to the hotel. I highly recommend coming to the Rusty Nail Pub for a pint of Sweetwater 420 and dinner! I will be coming back for more!

I went here a few weeks ago to grab lunch. I've stopped here once before for a drink after dinner. I'm never a fan of smoky places but it's something I can get over. My SO suggested I give the food a try. I thought it was pretty average nothing to write home about or to even look it. Had a burger blue cheese, bacon, and fries.

If you're an adult and want bbq this is perect. Food was great, staff is really friendly. It is a bar so it does smell like smoke, but all in all great food.

This review is an update to my previous review; however, it is more of a report about security / parking lot issues. I went here about a month ago with my dart team for a dart league match. I sensed there was a problem, when I saw a sign in the bathroom advising patrons to hide valuables in the trunk or (better yet) bring them inside the bar. Shortly after reading the sign in the bathroom, I started hearing announcements from the bartenders about cars in the parking lot being burglarized / vandalized. Half the patrons had to go outside to check and see if their car was the one that got hit by the thieves. The thieves kept breaking into cars (breaking windows) and leaving; and later returning throughout the course of the evening to hit more cars. Out of six members of my dart team, four had their cars broken into. My car was parked near the front entrance, so perhaps that is why my car was spared. This place REALLY needs to have a fence put up around the parking lot and / or installing security cameras - maybe even hiring a security guard to monitor the parking lot. Until the crime problem is resolved, park near the entrance or park near the CVS and walk over. Don't park behind Rusty Nail.

Love this little place, it's smoky, and not from BBQ, but the food is good, cheep and they pour a good drink with a smile

The Rusty Nail is everything I hoped for and then some! Atlanta has trendy bars and hipster bars, but this place is like a Southern Cheers. It's just a good, honest, authentic "bar" bar that doesn't try too hard and succeeds at being perfection. I want to come here so much that everyone to know my name. I had been intrigued by this place for years and finally had the opportunity to experience it. We went on a Saturday at about 7:00 before it was really crowded. The bartender, whose name escapes me, could not have been any nicer and has been working here for over a decade. That was sign #1 that this place is awesome. They offer all your normal alcoholic beverages and surprisingly good bar food. Who knew that I would be obsessed with a hotdog from a dive bar? I had some sort of homemade peanut butter pie that was so simple and so good. The Rusty Nail is dark and dive-y in all the right ways. You can play Keno here. The bathroom stall is covered in chalk paint, so you drawing in the stall is encouraged. They have trivia on Saturdays, which I will absolutely be back for. Best of all though: they have dirty Photo Hunt. I cannot even tell you how long it's been since I had last played the best bar game ever. Atlanta just got a little better in my book thanks to this discovery.

This place was a dive but quite good. The hamburgers were great and the chips and salsa were delicious as well. The manager came by to check on us and the waitress was very attentive and friendly.

I love this place. Randomly came across one night after a super long day at school. Sweetest bartender I've ever met. Their burgers are awesome, but that's not why I love it. It's super spacious and friendly. Definitely a relaxed environment.

Here's where bringing up your standards to the modern world would help. If this place was a non smoking establishment I would likely rate them closer to five stars. Staying in a local hotel I was looking forward to walking to dinner. As soon as I walked in I got hit with cigarette smoke. Each and every seat at the bar had an ashtray and accompanying smoker. The adjacent dinning area was "smoke free" as in no lit cigarettes. With all this in mind I choose to get my order to go. Now onto the positive attributes. The server was very understanding and helpful. He hooked me up with all necessary items to enjoy my meal in my room down to the vinegar sauce for my greens. The food itself is delightful. The pork is flavorful, the greens are tender & tasty, the Mac 'n cheese is cheesy, sauce packs a vinegar punch and the Brunswick stew is out of this world. Overall I would love to eat here again. However it is very unlikely until Georgia changes some smoking laws.

What a great dive bar!!! Love the atmosphere! Didn't know walking in they have an amazing menu that has everything!! There also a smoker outside, which lead me to believe that the BBQ looks pretty good! No smoking which I like, and it's Saturday night and we are playing a game of trivia! Cheers :)

What a great place. Rustic charming with great food and beer with super prices. Watch out for Don. Loaded with Bad jokes. I ate the tacos, pies and stews but burgers are great too.

Great little local bar/restaurant... The smoking gun out front is a landmark, but if you are squeamish, don't let it hinder you... The food is amazing and the service is on point. The regulars are welcoming, and if you are ok with a smoking friendly location (Not Mary Jane just regular tobacco) then check this place out!! If you are a franchise regular/snob, then pass up, you just won't get it...

Best BBQ, don't be discouraged by the outside. Be aware people smoke inside but the prices are great.

We love this place. Great burgers, BBQ, soups. You can't beat it. The food comes out piping hot, just the way we like it.

Place is kind of like a dive bar but not. Really just a great atmosphere. Music plays subtlety in the background unlike some pubs and even some fancy restaurants. You can carry on a conversation without yelling. They do allow for smoking on one side but sitting in the non smoking side it really isn't that overpowering. Just wish this state would become smoke free. Food was really great and staff is very friendly. And hey they carry a cider, which is hard to find. Definitely will be back.

If you're into dive bars and food that complements the category's atmosphere, you could live here! Friendly down to earth service, larger menu than you'd think, and an excellent place to tie one one. Go for the Chili Mac, nothing close to what the lunch lady was serving up.

Avoid this place if you are black they are prejudice and rude me and my friend went on a Saturday met some people there sat n ate with them we asked the waiter to add egg to our salad she was rude and said we don't serve eggs and don't so special orders for them the gentleman table we were at told the lady he was paying our tab. We went outside to smoke the waiter come chase us like we didn't pay we said the guy we with is paying so the owner comes out and say don't come back the waiter had to chase you out and you got somebody to pay your bill I don't like that I told him the waiter was rude she came out and said which 1 of y'all bitches told the owner I was rude we were like what about to fight her they are prejudice red necks there avoid this place. It deserves 0 stars

The Rusty Nail is a very specific kind of place. It's the place you go when you want to smoke a lot of cigarettes inside, get drunk, and also eat food. The service at the Nail is always great. Seriously--everyone is friendly and acts like they know you even when it's your first visit. While you wait for your food and drinks you can quiz your friends with the provided Trivial Pursuit cards or graffiti the light fixture (pen or pencil not included). They got rid of the fried olives, but that's okay because now you can just get the BBQ nachos for an app instead of a meal. You know you want to. Last time I went, they'd added chili mac as a side. It's like the best version of homemade Hamburger Helper--ultimate trashy delicious food. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are all greasy and tasty. The desserts aren't my fave, but maybe I'm just not usually drunk enough.

Best burgers in town. Try the one with the hot wing sauce. It's perfection. Their sides are nothing special so stick with fries or tator tots.

This is a perfect and delicious whole in the wall restaurant! The cream pie for desert is to die for and the fish was so juicy! We were on vacation from Florida and someone recommended this place to us...from the outside it didn't look too appealing but once your inside the service and staff is thumbs up!!! Looking forward to dine here again in the future! The only reason why I'm giving it a 4 star is because they allow smoking in the establishment...

Came here on a Saturday around lunchtime after dropping my car off at the closeby Atlanta Car Care. Debbie was my server and she was a total sweetheart. I got the BBQ nachos which is a lot of food (more than I was expecting). There is a giant smoker in the shape of a gun outside which is pretty awesome! This place is as Yelp advertised and is definitely a unique gem on Buford Highway.

Yummy! I'm staying at the Hampton Inn around the corner and felt like a carnivore, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I had a burger with mac 'n' cheese on the side. The mac was basic, but well done. Not greasy or plastic. The burger was actually impressive for a bar burger. Seemed like a hand-formed patty, based on the texture. It was a perfect medium, as ordered, and nice and juicy. I figured I'd give the peanut butter pie a whirl, and it was amazing. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive without asking me every five seconds how things were, and she told me I'd have to come back when they have the lemonade pie in. I'm going to give the BBQ a try next time. Only minus is the cigarette smoke. I guess I'm spoiled, being from Chicago where there's no smoking indoors.

I came here for a happy hour after work and found an amazing dive bar - complete with smoke haze, cigarette machine, and tater tots. Tables were easily accomodated for our large group and the waitresses were as pleasant as can be. I only drank soda water here, but I would happily come back here any time. I love places that have been in Atlanta since the 70s!

Exactly what it is meant to be. Friendly bar and restaurant. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with hot sauce and blue cheese crumbles. They called it the Florida. Check out the menu. Lots of variety for a place like this and would definitely come to again. Excellent service !!!

I have been here several times. Depending on which time we are talking about would determine my review. Debbie, the bartender is amazing. I understand she works later in the week. ALWAYS a great experience if she is there. Have been a few times when there was a younger bartender working. Not friendly at all. She is too busy sitting at the bar smoking rather than helping new customers as they walk in. I have been ignored by her on more than one occaision. I have made it a point now to call and see who is working. If you go after 2pm, the don't have a server and the bartender is supposed to handle all customers. Debbie can do it, NO PROBLEM. The other bartender has issues being able to handle it all, in a friendly manner. I will be back, but I will def call first to see who is working

Another pleasant surprise. Reminded me of the places my dad brought me to when I was little. He'd want to go to bar but he had his dumb kid with him. This was the closest he could get and still bring me along. Dark, smoky and wooden (yes, wooden). I'd read the article in Creative Loafing the features the Rusty Nail yet it still wasn't on my list of places to eat at. ( m.clatl.com/gyrobase/atl… ) A coworker of mine had an moment of hungry clarity and said "chicken sandwiches, they have great chicken sandwiches!" I can't lie, they did. Nothing fancy, yet simple and delicious. Sweet tea was always full, waitress was friendly and it's not far from my job. I'll definitely be back. Oh yeah, and the Colt Revolver Smoker outside, it says "this place has class" or something.

We had some colleagues from our overseas office who were staying at the Hampton Inn on North Druid, so one night we took them to the Rusty Nail. Ahh, cultural experiences! I would totally give Rusty Nail 4 stars except the smoking thing. I understand that's part of what makes it what it is, but basking in secondhand smoke while I dine is just not for me. The smoke definitely does fit into the "local dive" atmosphere they've got going on here, though. It works, just not so much for me. The food, on the other hand, was faultless. We had the opportunity to introduce our friends to fried pickles, which is a uniquely American dish. The Nail's version is spot on. I also had a pulled pork sandwich, and the meat was juicy, if a little on the fatty side. All in all, the Rusty Nail isn't ever going to hit the radar as a place for a nice dinner out, but it's entirely unpretentious, comfortable, and the food is great. If you're looking for a place where you could grab a beer and some grub without having to shower and clean up first, the Rusty Nail is where it's at.

Wheelchair accessible? HELL NO. There isn't a single goddamn ramp. If you can't pop a wheelie, you are NOT eating here. And if you're able-bodied and you misremembered when voting, please go back and change your vote. Having said that -- the buttermilk chess pie is affordable heaven. Great place to come for coffee and pie and conversation.
(3)
Lori F.
My kind of place: strong drinks, great food, and excellent staff. Totally unpretentious and the place to go if you just want to be yourself. The food is great - everything from Nick's lasagna, hummingbird cake, to their ultimate bbq made in the shotgun smoker out front. And if they have fried chicken available, you MUST get it. The BEST fried chicken I've ever had in the south - bar none.
(5)
Lyn P.
Nice watering hole and friendly staff. I come for their wings...best in town by far!!! I'm fro Buffalo so I'm picky about my wings :) They have wing specials during the week after 3p to (6p I think )1/2 price with purchase of a drink and on Saturday nights too from 9p-11p. There are TV's that are on mostly for sports and of course you can play Keno too.
(4)
Megan K.
I came here on saturday night with 2 friends on their suggestion. The pistol shaped smoker out front is a little bit... alarming. But the food and service is excellent. Loved my chicken sandwich and fries. The wait staff was very attentive and joking/smiling. Made the start of our night real good. I'd love to come here again and try some more of their menu. They had trivia going on as well so FUN!

Great dive bar with excellent food and friendly staff. There is keno and trivia on Saturday night at 930. Fun low key place for lunch, a quiet night or a rowdy one

I came in for trivia expecting nothing good, but this place is definitely a great dive bar, if you are into that sort of thing. The food was good and not just smothered in grease, our waitress attentive, and the trivia...colorful.

This place is amazing! I strongly recommend the country fried steak and the Brunswick stew!! We just stopped in to get out of traffic, but this place is a gem! So glad we came! The atmosphere is chill, and very friendly! We will be coming back for sure!

An old standby! The food is always good, and portion size with 2 sides will fill you up. Inside, its a dive. However, the service is really good. I was in need of some comfort food. Country Fried Chicken, the best mashed potatoes. Cole slaw was fresh. The place was packed on a Wed night. I think there was a discount on cocktails/

We've been coming to The Nail for several years. It's the perfect dive bar with good drinks, great food and sweet laid back 70's atmosphere. I swear I'm in the "wayback" machine here. Opened in 1974 and still hear the tunes of the day playing in this smokey ole' bar- LOVE it! Check out the gold record on the wall. You can feel the southern rock inspiration still. Everything is good- the lasagne is a gooey mess of yum but I'm partial to the BBQ. Sides are great too and my cosmo came in a pint glass- HELL YA! Just wish they were open on Sunday.

Katarina O.
This is my favorite hole in the wall. When I first walked in here with some coworkers - I immediately thought - I just don't belong here - but then I tasted those buffalo wings and the bacon cheeseburger - and I didn't care! The service is good. The restaurant is smoky - so prepare to inhale some second hand smoke. They also have those ( oh-so-random) electronic gambling machines at the bar. The food is great and I can't get over that huge smoking gun in the front. I've been coming here randomly for roughly 5 years and plan to keep doing so. Also - I should note - there are no people under 18 allowed in here at all.
(4)
Reba Jean B.
This place has been here 38 years. Seriously. Anyplace that can endure business that long is awesome. This is exactly what I expect out of an old Atlanta dive bar. I must get my picture in front of that smoking gun smoker...
(4)
Matt C.
one of the better burgers in town, greasy patty on buttered, toasted bun.. i think it's better than some of these spots in town that people flock to like farm burger. the place is smokey, laidback, and seems like it attracts a good number of regulars
(3)
Todd P.
If you've never been, the name pretty much will help you conjure up an accurate mental image: well worn; rustic; dirty; laid back; smelly. But fun! (ish) I've not tried the food, but my neighbors go often and they say it's good. And how can one not be curious to try smoked meats cooked in a smoker fashioned after a giant six-shooter!?
(3)
Darrel M.
Outstanding Southern Cooking in Atlanta While traveling by you might think that this is a run down bar or pub. This place has the most outstanding burgers, chicken sandwiches and barbecue in Atlanta. They have a great selection of home cooked vegetables along with soups and salads. I highly recommend checking them out when you are in the mood for a good burger or barbecue.
(5)
Adam C.
If you ever feel like you are running out the usual empty glitzy crap or super long beared, rolled up jeans establishments, then Rusty Nail is an extremely refreshing change of pace. Food is the ever-missed the classic bar food done right at the correct prices. No truffle oil parmesan parsley organic hand cut free labor save the world fries, just plain ole fried. Don't waste time and money trying to find a good dive, this is it.
(4)
Julie M.
The grouper sandwich is to die for. The pot roast and lasagna are just as good. For a bar, the menu has a wide variety of homemade comfort food as well as typical bar fare. The drinks are a little pricey but the atmosphere is fun and comfy and I find myself going back often.
(4)

Yelp has this one right on the money: A friendly dive bar with amazing burgers. The burgers are thick, hand formed patties cooked to perfection on a buttered roll. I had the skunk burger, which was out of this world, with grilled onions and blue cheese. Lots of sides to choose from. I went with the mac and cheese, which was divine. The bartender, Amber, was friendly, entertaining and took good care of her customers. I recommend this place highly if you love a good burger and like straight out of the 1970s ambiance.
(5)
Mark L.
I don't like brisket but I love it here. The beef brisket tacos may be some of the best things I've ever eaten. The broccoli salad is also fantastic. The collard greens, too. Yes, it's smoky, etc., but it's soooo worth it!!
(5)
Patrick V.
I don't think enough could be said about the staff and the food at the Rusty Nail. Our soccer team would frequent the bar after games for drinks and food, and it felt like our home away from home. The fried grouper sandwich and the chicken fried chicken are phenomenal. As someone else pointed out, they will treat you like you've been a long-time customer even if your first time in.

I have been eating there every other Wednesday afternoon for a few months. The burgers are so scrumptious. Amber is the greatest to have behind the bar. Thanks for the casual atmosphere and good food

This place is great. I don't typically wander into bars alone, but I have no qualms about doing so here- It's the kind of bar that you feel comfortable at, like it's your home. The staff here is fantastic, and I've met some really wonderful people I'm honored to call friends. Besides the great staff and clientele, drinks and food are excellent too, and they have keno! Not sure what else anyone could possibly need in a bar?
(5)
Allen J.
I've been there for lunch countless times and tried many different things. The food is excellent. Honestly, I have yet to have anything bad. Hands down the best burger in town! Excellent barbeque and brunswick stew. Even the salads are great - and it's a pub. If you are looking for a good place for a lunch that is way above the usual then this is the place. Deb and all the girls during the day are the best.

I guess this is my annual update of The Nail!! So last night I kinda wanted some dinner, kinda wanted to just have a drink and hang out a minute before heading home. Where, oh where to go, I wondered?? Hadn't been to The Nail in awhile . . . Updating my thoughts on the spot for a few reasons: *You just never know what kind of locals you'll meet when you go to a cool dive like this . . . such as the ones who frequent El Taco and want to come in with a big party next week! Score. (And, they were fun to talk to, to boot - added bonus!) *Shannon and Anne. Server and bartender, respectively, whom I had not met before - so cool and fun to talk to, enough to make me want to go back and visit again - and Anne and I even have a good friend in common. Small world, as they say. *Where else do you get "baskets" of cheetos, corn chips and potato chips along with your lotto tix?? Or where the graffitti on the *women's* bathroom has things like "If it's a girl, name her Pearl/If it's a boy, name him Ricardo" . . . That's what I thought. Long live The Nail.

This place has a great atmosphere. Just what you would expect from the large gun smoker outside of the building: laid back, smoky, and fun. Like others, I'm not exactly a fan of secondhand smoke but I really didn't mind. What did bother me was the young waitress. I came with a group of friends and when the man who worked there informed us that the mac and cheese ran out, my friend thought they said that they had 1 serving left and said she wanted that last serving, and the waitress responded so rudely that they didn't have any more. Also, when we were saying our goodbyes to each other, she barked at the group, " I NEED TO GET THROUGH!" It was beyond rude. All she had to do was say "excuse me". For real? The older gentleman was hilarious and saved my experience. 4 stars for the good food, atmosphere, and the older gentleman.

Alright dudes, this bar is what I envisioned a bar to be like in my younger years. No fancy shmancy. You can't really beat a big fat gun. This is a really low key place and I felt like a real woman coming here. har har har jk. I didn't come here for the food so I don't know how it tasted. The server was nice. There's trivia cards on tables which is good for ice breakers. Yelp 365 #42/365

I'm a presentation kinda gurl. Rusty Nail is not big on presentation. I went with the roast beef sandwich. Upon first presentation, I was like uuugggghhhhh the meat was slopped on the bread and had onions galore and gravy was running from every end of the sandwich. The lettuce was just to the left of being wilted. But the bun and the hunks of roast beef made me say....Im gonna try and enjoy this. Well dont let apperances fool you. I slopped down that sandwich so quickly and kept licking my fingers. The steak fries were a little to the right of being really cold, so I didnt eat those. Not impressed enough to go back. I was thinking that $9 for a roast beef sandwich wasnt too pricey, most menu items are between 9-12 dollars for a meat and two sides. Roast beef sandwich is a must try if you ever go here.

a coworker and I were in town for work, staying at a hotel down the street. We wanted to find a local spot for some beers / dinner without having to drive anywhere. We stumbled upon this place, which turned out to be freaking awesome. The wings were really good - and half price for happy hour. The burger was really good meat, and the mac and cheese was original. Co-worker had the pot roast, he loved it, and it wasn't expensive. Sweetwater 420 on tap, friendly as hell, and some keno if you like that, ha. Overall, big surprise - amazing food at good prices and damn good company.

Dive Bar! Also, they allow smoking so if that's a turnoff for you avoid this place. I'm from WI and it reminds me of a towny bar up north. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer. They were very good, but salty! I had the pulled pork plate with Mac n cheese and green beans. Very good pork, Mac n cheese and beans nothing special

The Nail is everything you'd imagine in a dive: smokey, dimly lit, and a crowd of regulars perched around the bar making small talk. The beer is cold, the food is good, the staff is friendly and best of all, the entire bar is certified douchebag-free. I am particularly fond of the wings, the fried pickles are as addictive as crack and if you go on a Thursday, definitely try the pot roast. The cliental is as diverse as the menu: young, old, rich, poor, black, white and everything in between. In short, The Nail is the quintessential neighborhood bar. A word of warning about shots: we ordered a round of Lemon Drops and they were at least 2 oz each. If you are planning on doing shooters here, definitely consider taking a taking a taxi home.

The definition of a dive.... I LOVE IT. This, my friends, is what I've been looking for. A no nonsense, slide your beer to you down the bar, been around longer than most folks can remember, everyone's a regular kind of place. And to top it all off, the food is far better than average. My parents went to the Rusty Nail in the 70's, so that means it's good enough for me. Plus they have a ridiculously large gun out front that serves as their smoker!! Nothing better. NOTHING.
(4)
Rod M.
The nail is quite an experience. And honestly I think 5 stars may be slightly too generous, but I have come to this place on so many occasions that it really is 5 stars in my book. Its the last of a dying breed of bar food style pubs. I ll start with some of the cons, its definitely smokey as everyone else on here has mentioned but i ve found it pretty hit or miss in terms of that being a bother. You seat yourself so you can probably find a spot that isnt so bad. I love the nail for never being packed, fairly quick and super friendly service. Its always the same crew working and they are very accomodating! The food is great, and pretty cheap. The wings n cheese fries are solid, especially during happy hour when they are priced like a steal! The barbeque is quite formidable and actually suprisingly better than I expected. I like the barbeque salad best if I am going to go that route. The best part is the Red Blue burger, this thing kicks ass, and the fries might be my favorite part of the nail. This may not be the best place for a first date, unless you are doing a blind date and she mite be a hog, in which case its ideal given its never crowded and hard for people to see you given the layout. Good sneaky place to bring that girl from work you ve been banging after working up an appetite in the hotel next door b4 getting on 85 to head back to gwinnett with the rest of the mouth breathers.

Greeted by a stale cigarette smell and a signed picture of Toby Keith, I was immediately turned off - but curious nonetheless. I stayed and ordered a medium burger with Swiss, mushrooms and bacon. To my surprise, it was delicious and cooked to perfection. One of the better burgers I've had in a while. Other than the lingering stench of cigarette smoke, I loved this bar.

Oh yes... How can you not want to go to a place named The Rusty Nail? It's on Buford Highway and there is a massive gun out front (that they used to cook on until the health department shut them down from doing it). I knew I could only resist for so long. I was drawn like a moth to a flame. First off... Be prepared to smell like smoke after you eat here. There is an old school cigarette machine right when you walk in the door. So if you don't want to smell like smoke, then don't come to the Nail. I was prepared for this aspect and it kind of adds to the ambiance. Service... Was decent. I've had faster, but it was fine by me because I wanted to soak in all that was Rusty. It's a slice of Americana. It reminded me of a place that could be in Buffalo. After our meal, the owner came by and shook our hand to thank us for coming in. We told him it was our first time and he said that he'd treat us like regulars when we came back. Point... Rusty Nail. Food... The menu is basically burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads. I wanted to try the wings, but couldn't resist the burger. The burger was juicy and amazing. Fantastic! They do have half price wings from 4-6 and 9-11. It's like a reverse happy hour, but with wings. My friend had a BBQ salad. She said it was amazing. Beer was cold. Point... Rusty Nail. Ambiance... Everything you would expect. Booths everywhere, old school bar setup, decent t.v. placement, and great people watching. Point...Rusty Nail Website - I mean they have a basic website and nothing on facebook. I love technology, but find it fascinating when a business doesn't advertise or promote. It's all regulars and word of mouth... Point... Rusty Nail. Take Out... A lot of people were picking up food to take home. If you'd like to avoid the smoke, then do that. Burger was definitely worth the trip.

One of my favorite places in Atlanta. Great bar-b-que and the brunswick stew will have you wondering when you ate corn. Only complaint is since they put the windows in theres too much day light and it makes day drinking feel slightly shameful.

Holy Smokes! That was my first impression. I was immediately bombarded with the smell of smoke. I'm not a smoker and I am sensitive to smells in general so it was a bit overwhelming. I eventually just got used to it. The smoke is definitely a con if you are a non smoker but a pro as well because you won't find any kids here. It is definitely a dive bar and most of the patrons aren't under the age of 30. Shannon was our server - she was really nice and sweet. She answered all my questions and made suggestions. I ended up with the buffalo tender basket and it was mmm, mmm, good. I loved the chicken and the fries. It was great because I was in the mood for something simple and this was simply awesome. They have plenty of other options from salads to burgers and diner entrees. I will come back - probably on a Friday or Saturday when I can throw back a few drinks and not have to worry about work the next day. The Rusty Nail is a pretty cool neighborhood bar.

After waiting 35 minutes for my simple dinner order the bartender came over and warned me it might be a while before it arrived, saying "the kitchen is crazy tonight." The establishment was not crowded. I had come in hungry, so asked the bartender to cancel the order and asked for my check for my wine so that I could go to another restaurant. The owner came out from the kitchen and yelled at me in front of the other patrons, who were embarrassed and sympathetic because I started crying. I paid for my wine and tipped the bartender for the dinner, too, because it wasn't her fault she couldn't serve my dinner. I will not return to this establishment. Beautiful, polite women are not welcome here, they're picked on by angry, frustrated management.

I have my likes and dislikes about the Nail. To be honest, my only dislike is kind of standard, and doesn't only apply to this place. It is small, quaint, and intimate; which, for a smoky bar, can be a bad thing with someone who has sinus issues. When I was there, I seriously felt like I was breathing air that had been trapped inside the place since 1972. Is it so much to leave the door open during the day, or pump in some fresh oxygen every now and then? Oh well... it is a bar. Anywho, that is my only gripe, well, that, and the fact that it is kind of a small place, so it isn't the best for groups, IMHO. What is totally awesome about the Nail, though, is the service and the items that I had there. First of all, we had like 2 servers, and both were accommodative and very friendly. They also have very good memories. Second of all, and what was the WOW factor for me, was that I ordered a Manhattan, which isn't usually that big of a drink, since it is basically nothing but liqour (and bitters), but what I got stunned me. The Manhattan at the Nail comes in a pint glass. I shit you not. A pint glass. I figured that it would probably cost me an arm and a leg too, since it was basically a half a bottle of bourbon, but I was again amazing to discover that this amazing drink of all drinks was only $8! Holy drunken stumbling, Batman... let's get drunk at the Nail! As someone who doesn't like to fork over large amounts of cash for booze when I go out, the service and the great drinks at the Nail solidified this as a bona fide watering hole for me. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Outstanding BBQ and pub. First time there and food was outstanding. Great friendly atmosphere. Very pleasantly surprised. Chloe was most excellent as a server. Great pulled pork.

My husband and I are kicking ourselves for having just now visited this place after having lived near it for years. I'm not sure I can say it any better than Lori F. Great food (HUGE portions--we got the lasagna and a BBQ plate and have at least 2 more meals out of them), great relaxed atmosphere, and great drinks Unlike another reviewer, $4 for a beer was OK with me especially since my whole dinner was an incredible value. You must go here!

One of the worst burgers I've ever had. Ordered medium it came out bloody red ... Hello e-coli. The owners reaction was "you ordered it wrong". Terrible place. Will never eat there again.

***********4.5 stars************************* so with a buddy coming in late from outta town we needed a place to eat. Taking up on some of my fellow yelpers suggestions we stopped by the Rusty Nail. Sure enough as we pulled into the parking lot there was the smoking gun... smoking... The smell of the smoker greeted us as we exited our vehicle onto the gravel like parking lot. I knew i was either in for a great meal or a bar fight, or both. Either way we ventured on in. From the outside the rusty nail looks small and on the inside its pretty much the same thing. the bar sits in the center and along the perimeter of the walls sits some booths and tables. My buddy got there first due to my impeccable timing and desire to not ever be the first or on time. He got a booth along the right, right when u walk in. The whole est prolli sits about 150 if that. As we settled in we took note at the decor. Everything looks old and it seems like its been there for ages. The booths were made out of what used to be pine and years of asses sitting on them or a simple wood stain have made them a dark brown. The whole place didn't reek of smoke either which was a plus, but then again it was a Thursday and its a well known fact that chain smokers and boozehounds don't ever come out on thursday nights. After a few minutes of chit chatting we got our menus and was noted that our server would be over shortly. By shortly the gentleman meant closer to 10 min. But we didn't mind since we were taking in the scenario, old tables and chairs and the UCF vs West Virginia game (playing on 3 tube tv's mind you). The menu was pretty simple, sandwiches, bbq, wings, and some oddball choices. Along with the menu is also "today's specials" printed on a simple 8x11 sheet of paper. Our server finally came by and took our drink orders and we also took the opportunity to order. My buddy got the chopped steak dinner ($11) with broccoli slaw and cole slaw, other buddy got the pulled pork ($13) with green beans and mashed potatoes and i got the lasagna ($12). YES i said lasagna. After some chatting our food came (relatively quicker than i had imagined), the food was def worth the wait. The lasagna was piping hot (thats a good thing) and was delicious. just the right mix of meat cheese and lasagna noodles with the garlic bread and a side salad. The chopped steak looked delicious and since my buddy finished it in about 10 min im sure it was good. He also kept raving about the broccoli slaw which he consumed before his chopped steak. The pulled pork was delicious and tender and the sides were right on par with what i had expected. Overall the portions were pretty much right on par with what i expected to get for our money. Just a note if u come after 9pm and get an alcoholic beverage the wings are half off. Have yet to try the wings but at half off who can complain? well overall it was a pretty pleasant experience... we were expecting it to be a bit more smokey but it was defintely a great night... so why the 4.5 stars? the service could've been a bit faster but overall it didn't deter from the night at all since the server was super friendly anyways... i'll def be back for their other "specials..." definitely need something outta the smoker! happy eats!

I very much enjoy the laid back pub feel that The Rusty Nail offers. I drive past everyday after work and on days when they have the giant gun smoker smokin', it's difficult not to stop. It just smells so good. When I do go, I usually get the Pulled Pork and its great. The wait staff is super friendly and amongst the speediest in Atlanta. I can barely say 'rum and coke, please' before there's one on the table. There are a few TVs throughout that usually have sports on, but this is not a sports bar. There are also a few dart boards that I've seen while heading to the bathroom. And, for those that like to read a book while eating and drinking, they even have brighter light bulbs that they'll switch out in your booth. Nice touch.

The rusty nail has superb barbeque and brunswick stew. I really need to get down there more. I know it's corny but I love the trivial pursuit cards at each table, I'm a trivia junkie.

You will find many things at The Rusty Nail- good food, strong drinks, excellent service, KENO, and a jukebox. However, there is one thing you will NOT find which makes The Rusty Nail near and dear to my DeKalb County heart- pretention. The Rusty Nail is the ultimate in "come as you are, stay as long as you like". I'm a big fan of the comfort food/strong drink combination (see my other reviews of Mary Mac's and The Colonnade), so The Rusty Nail automatically scores points for its food and drink. But the friendly staff makes this place a "must visit".

Ok...everyone seems to really like the food. It is good bar food, no doubt about it. But this place really screws you with portions and drink prices. They charge over $2 for a soda and over $4 for import beers. The charged me $4.50 for a Landshark Lager one time. Are you kidding me?! If you go here for the food, get water, because they rip you on most of their prices for a dumpy atmosphere.

I couldn't agree more with the other reviews. The Nail is easy going place with a suprising menu. The service is excellent and I went w/ Duanes suggestion and ordered a burger this time. it was very good. I love the circular style of the place which makes it quite cozy. Added bonus of Trivia Pursuit cards at each table! I love to grill my husband on obscure 80's trivia. They gave dekalb the finger back when they went to a no smoking ordinance and said we are all adults, smoke if you want. Great if you smoke, not so great if you don't but I will take the good w/ the bad. No one under 18 allowed which is major plus in my book. Who are these people who insist on taking their ankle biters EVERYWHERE! I love mine but glad to get away from them on a weekend night. Called babysitter folks, look into it.

The BBQ is good, but I go to Rusty's for their hamburgers. I've never had anything on the menu that wasn't good or great. But their burgers are tops. The crew is friendly. The atmosphere is fun and laid-back.

Great food!!! Big Gun outside is their smoker - really cool! The Brunswick stew is to die for! The staff was very friendly and the best I've had so far while visiting Atlanta. Just don't be a dork - if your looking for elite atmosphere, then why even walk into a place with the name "Pub" in it? This is a down-to-earth kind of place where you can get a good drink and smokers can smoke in peace in the choking section. A must visit if you are staying in Atlanta!

(5)Rachel P.
This place was a dive but quite good. The hamburgers were great and the chips and salsa were delicious as well. The manager came by to check on us and the waitress was very attentive and friendly.
(4)Yousef B.
I love this place. Randomly came across one night after a super long day at school. Sweetest bartender I've ever met. Their burgers are awesome, but that's not why I love it. It's super spacious and friendly. Definitely a relaxed environment.
(5)Rob B.
(3)Twiggy R.
What a great dive bar!!! Love the atmosphere! Didn't know walking in they have an amazing menu that has everything!! There also a smoker outside, which lead me to believe that the BBQ looks pretty good! No smoking which I like, and it's Saturday night and we are playing a game of trivia! Cheers :)
(5)Steven S.
What a great place. Rustic charming with great food and beer with super prices. Watch out for Don. Loaded with Bad jokes. I ate the tacos, pies and stews but burgers are great too.
(5)Jose T.
(5)Alex L.
Best BBQ, don't be discouraged by the outside. Be aware people smoke inside but the prices are great.
(4)Frank M.
We love this place. Great burgers, BBQ, soups. You can't beat it. The food comes out piping hot, just the way we like it.
(5)C Z.
(5)Andrew G.
If you're into dive bars and food that complements the category's atmosphere, you could live here! Friendly down to earth service, larger menu than you'd think, and an excellent place to tie one one. Go for the Chili Mac, nothing close to what the lunch lady was serving up.
(5)Jovan B.
(1)Alison G.
(3)Suddenly J.
Best burgers in town. Try the one with the hot wing sauce. It's perfection. Their sides are nothing special so stick with fries or tator tots.
(4)Sakinah O.
(4)Phil G.
(5)Sarah G.
Everything is fantastic, EXCEPT the men's bathroom has beautiful asses and the women's bathroom has old ladies. #genderinequality
(4)Beth G.
(4)Valerie N.
(4)Casey T.
Great bar food. Everything is delicious.
(3)Chris G.
Exactly what it is meant to be. Friendly bar and restaurant. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with hot sauce and blue cheese crumbles. They called it the Florida. Check out the menu. Lots of variety for a place like this and would definitely come to again. Excellent service !!!
(4)Dee Dee S.
(3)Sahil D.
Good burgers and fries. Wings are good too. Typical bar with smoking and non-smoking sections.
(2)Teddy D.
(4)Christy M.
(3)Ben O.
(3)Lori F.
(5)Lyn P.
(4)Megan K.
(4)Michael D.
Great hole in the wall bar. Bartender Michelle is not only gorgeous - she's friendly too! Burger w Swiss & shrooms was da bomb.
(4)Dianne F.
Very good locals place. We had chicken fried steak, they had a steak Cobb salad special Everything was really good. The place was packed when we left.
(4)Katrina W.
Food is very good. I have been several times. The place can be smoky but it doesn't bother me.
(5)Stephanie T.
Great dive bar with excellent food and friendly staff. There is keno and trivia on Saturday night at 930. Fun low key place for lunch, a quiet night or a rowdy one
(4)Kurt N.
I came in for trivia expecting nothing good, but this place is definitely a great dive bar, if you are into that sort of thing. The food was good and not just smothered in grease, our waitress attentive, and the trivia...colorful.
(4)Kyle K.
This place is amazing! I strongly recommend the country fried steak and the Brunswick stew!! We just stopped in to get out of traffic, but this place is a gem! So glad we came! The atmosphere is chill, and very friendly! We will be coming back for sure!
(5)Gary F.
(4)Gretchen S.
(4)Katarina O.

This place has been here 38 years. Seriously. Anyplace that can endure business that long is awesome. This is exactly what I expect out of an old Atlanta dive bar. I must get my picture in front of that smoking gun smoker...
(4)Matt C.
one of the better burgers in town, greasy patty on buttered, toasted bun.. i think it's better than some of these spots in town that people flock to like farm burger. the place is smokey, laidback, and seems like it attracts a good number of regulars
(3)Todd P.

Outstanding Southern Cooking in Atlanta While traveling by you might think that this is a run down bar or pub. This place has the most outstanding burgers, chicken sandwiches and barbecue in Atlanta. They have a great selection of home cooked vegetables along with soups and salads. I highly recommend checking them out when you are in the mood for a good burger or barbecue.

(4)Julie M.
The grouper sandwich is to die for. The pot roast and lasagna are just as good. For a bar, the menu has a wide variety of homemade comfort food as well as typical bar fare. The drinks are a little pricey but the atmosphere is fun and comfy and I find myself going back often.

(5)Mark L.
I don't like brisket but I love it here. The beef brisket tacos may be some of the best things I've ever eaten. The broccoli salad is also fantastic. The collard greens, too. Yes, it's smoky, etc., but it's soooo worth it!!
(5)Patrick V.
(5)Ryan M.
Fun divey bar/restaurant. Food was pretty good. Has a awesome smoker out front in the shape of a six shooter.
(5)Vance C.
This place is awesome! Everyone is very nice and fun. Good hangout if you're looking for a good time.
(5)Robert W.

(5)Allen J.

(4)Han L.

(4)Kurt F.

NOTHING.
(4)Rod M.

(4)Lisa B.

Expensive the special fish &chips 13.00 ...overpriced and drinks are kinda high too

(5)Rick Y.

Have yet to try the wings but at half off who can complain? well overall it was a pretty pleasant experience... we were expecting it to be a bit more smokey but it was defintely a great night... so why the 4.5 stars? the service could've been a bit faster but overall it didn't deter from the night at all since the server was super friendly anyways... i'll def be back for their other "specials..." definitely need something outta the smoker! happy eats!
(4)bobafred ..
Nice touch.
(5)John H.
The rusty nail has superb barbeque and brunswick stew. I really need to get down there more. I know it's corny but I love the trivial pursuit cards at each table, I'm a trivia junkie.
(4)Rich E.
(5)Scott L.
(2)Shannon M.
(4)Stu G.
The best place on Buford to add a little dirt to your routine. Rustic drinking hole.
(3)Kevin P.
The BBQ is good, but I go to Rusty's for their hamburgers. I've never had anything on the menu that wasn't good or great. But their burgers are tops. The crew is friendly. The atmosphere is fun and laid-back.
(4)Christian M.
