A Decent Solid Spot. Being there for 20+ years, Red Snapper has been serving up customers in the local Atlanta scene. It's located off of Cheshire Bridge Rd near other interesting establishments which sell sex gear and offer private dancing:-) The atmosphere and "mom and pop"nature is what makes it great. This place attracts a large following of senior citizens. It's tucked away in an older strip shopping plaza. You won't necessarily find the decor up to date, but what you will find is food served fresh, with imagination and keeps you wanting more. The menu is largely Snapper, but they also have some surf and turf as well. But this is a place you must go for if you have the cravings for seafood, mainly Snapper. Usually for the appetizer I get the Oyster Rockefeller. It's cooked with a small touch of Hollandaise and quite tasty. This is a dish I recommend as a starter. For the main dish the Snapper Yvonne is my favorite. It's a Sauteed Filet of Snapper with Lump Crabmeat, Artichoke Hearts & Sauteed Mushrooms in lemon sauce. It's simply great and I always want more! The Snapper Siam is a close 2nd and it adds a little sweet and spicy flavor. It's another dish I would try. The service and pricing exceed what you pay for in quality and taste. The cleanliness is good. This is a eatery I recommend for the person who has a hankering for a Snapper fix

Went with hubby Tuesday 3/2/10...before a Thrashers Game! Go Thrashers! Ok back to the review...we wanted to check this place out after seeing the Atlanta's Best Restuarants-Get Delicious on PBA30... This is definitely a Mom and Pops...but in a good way. I would recommend the snapper dishes...my hubby had the blackened snapper YUMMMM and I had the fried platter...ummm too heavy for me... I should have known better I'm not a power eater. They had the best service EVER and the simple touches like real glasses and real table linens...made us feel special. Please try it you won't be disappointed.

One of my favorite places to eat. I've been going there for years. The popcorn shrimp is the best in town! The Victoria snapper is so tasty. I've tried almost all the different snapper dishes and I can't find a bad one. The place is hidden on Cheshire Bridge Rd but worth the search. I found the place to be romantic and quite. It's not a happening place but the asian food is great!

Uh, my family and I dubbed this the "Geriatric Red Snapper". It was as if a nursing home popped everyone into a bus and headed down to Cheshire Bridge. For months, my mom really wanted to go here after an old lady at her hair salon recommended it. (Red flag #1) So eventually, for a special occasion, we headed over to the Red Snapper. It's very antiquated, but pretty clean. Even my 'rents- the least hip of all people, felt smothered in bed-pans. We just weren't ready to experience that yet. As for the food, it was edible. The service was fine, but we just couldn't get over the odd atmosphere. We all enjoyed our meal quietly, but were ready to leave. I wouldn't go back here again.

Not worth the money they charge you. We ordered sea food platter ,which was deep fried and bland. The veggies accompanying it were salty. I won't go there again. Very disappointed!

Excellent service. Gladly fulfilled my no sodium request.

Believe it or not, go for the coconut cake. At least, the wait for the coconut cake is worth it. The other food? The first visit was at lunch and I had the Snapper Yvonne. Mild, flavorful. The second visit was shrimp and scallop curry which was surprisingly good! I'm not a big fan of rice pilaf, though, with any meal. I kept thinking about some kind of Uncle Ben's wrapper hanging out in the kitchen. The vegetables and potatoes were good enough to finish! But believe me when I say the coconut cake (which may not be a regular appearance dish) is the best I've had out at a restaurant.

I picked this as the restaurant for my wife's birthday because we had seen it on television. Let me just say the food was incredible, especially the gumbo. The rabmeat en Coquille was novel and great for fried seafood lovers. I loved the Red Curry Shrimp and Scallops and the bites of my wifes's Ginger Snapper. I asked for special services and the wait staff enthuisiastically brought out a different gift with each course. We ended up being the last customers so much of the waitstaff hung around to see all of my wife's gifts revealed. I thought I tasted a touch of French-Thai fusion here and my suspicions were confirmed when the chef, who I knew from another popular French traditional restaurant, popped in to say hello. There are many better looking restaurants and much more expensive restaurants, but I gurantee you won't find a better tasting meal in Atlanta if you are a seafood lover!

i am so excited - i FINALLY found a seafood place in atlanta that i like !!! yes, the ambiance is very dated -- this is NOT a trendy place by any means -- the decor is sort of like alfredo's italian restaurant down the street from the red snapper -- i call that "cheshire bridge road chic" -- "old school" for sure - anyhow, i thought the food was really tasty and the service was excellent -- i had the red snapper yvonne -- very well prepared, great presentation and very tasty -- hard to find good seafood at a reasonable price -- i will return here for sure

Ok, we went to a movie at Tara and just stopped here on a whim late Friday night. The decor was a definite throwback to 80s or 90s but I was really pleased to see they had linens on the tables, especially at that price point! The place was pretty much dead except for two large tables. Our server brought out water and our mixed drinks were there in a hurry. I noticed that all the decor on the divider wall was very clean and well dusted. A plus for me! I ordered the gumbo and it was delicious. I also had the popcorn shrimp, which was spicy. I kind of choked on a pepper flake and the server immediately offered to take it back for something less spicy. However, I kept the dish as it was quite tasty. My partner had the red snapper stuffed with crab and artichoke hearts. It was good, but I was more impressed with the flavor of the vegetables. They were quite good. Our water glass was never empty and the service was great. I would recommend this restaurant to most anyone.

First off do not be fooled by the look of the establishment or placement!! This place was the best! I went for a late night random dinner with my boyfriend and son. We let the little guy use the wonderful Urbanspoon wheel because he wanted " seafood ,mommy". We were pleasantly shocked. the ambiance was perfect! it had an eclectic mix of fish dishes! But my all time favorite dishes would have to be the Oysters Rockefeller....that's when my boyfriend got introduced to them and has been addicted ever since. the service was excellent I never remember seeing the bottom of any glass once at the table and the staff was friendly at all times. Each dish we ate was flavorful and delicious! I can' t wait to go back for more.

OMG, I love this place. I have spent 2 of my birthdays here and loved it. I love the seafood and bread was and good and wait staff was professional. When i first saw it tucked off in the corner coming off the bridge on Cheshire bridge I thought to myself here we go, boy was I wrong I loved it !

Now I know where to find all the old people that don't retire to Florida! It even looks like your grandparents house. It's funny that this place attracts so many old people given its proximity to adult stores. So, don't go here for the décor. That being said, this place has some awesome seafood. I've been here 3 times and I have to say my favorite is the ginger snapper. I love the thai influence in many of their dishes. So, flavorful. Service is attentive and prices are reasonable. Expect to pay about $15 - $18 for a dinner entree.

Great Lunch today, Red snapper with crab and artichokes. Fried Oyster appetizers, and tasty homemade desserts. Highly recommend. Yes the place was filled with blue-hairs.... so what? It's not like anybodies colostomy bag popped off.

My husband and I just returned home from dinner here with friends and our experience was so bad that it was the push we needed to create an account and post a review. At these (expensive!) prices, no one should go here without being warned--especially those folks who were standing in line waiting to get in as we were leaving. Madness! At 8:30pm, even the best Atlanta restaurants don't have a line--please don't wait for this place. We arrived to meet friends at 6:30 and they were already seated. The ambiance inside was a pleasant surprise. Our first indicator probably should have been when the waiter started taking our order--and stopped in the middle to take a phone call (the phone was in his pocket). He walked away with the phone and after several minutes, another waiter came to get the rest of the order! We waited a fair amount of time for our soups, salads, and a shared appetizer (came out all at the same time). While we were waiting, our friend ordered a second glass of wine that didn't come for at least thirty minutes. The salads were OK and the soups--gumbo and chicken soup--each got good reports. The appetizer, "Crabmeat en coquille," was not a good choice. The pastry appeared to be from a frozen, not home-made, pastry dough. The waiter was very accommodating in getting our friends' 5-year-old's meal out as soon as possible. It came out with the salads, etc. This seems like it would be a good thing, except we couldn't possibly know that our entrees would not come out for an hour after the child had finished his meal! All told, we were seated for an hour and a half before we got our entrees. The worst part was that for the final hour (after we received our salads), we were not visited at all by our waiter. We were not given an opportunity to order any more drinks and no explanation as to where our entrees were. We had to motion the waiter over to ask him when we would get our meals. It seems that he must have forgotten to put the order in, because it took at least twenty minutes after that conversation to get the food. At least three tables in our small section came much later than we did and got their meals before us. Now, mistakes happen in any business and this was a busy Saturday night. The key is in how the mistakes are handled. When people wait 1.5 hour for entrees and have to ask to get them, the manager should be sent over and there should be some kind of compensation, especially when the meals are this expensive. No one even attempted to make this situation right and that is inexcusable. The entrees, by the way, were OK but pretty basic and uninspired. The vegetable medley was overcooked and the rice/potatoes were nothing special. We spent exactly the same amount of money earlier in the week and had a truly exceptional meal at one of Atlanta's premier steak restaurants (complete with appetizer, wine, and a complimentary dessert even though the service had been impeccable). What a difference! And, FYI, when the waiter describes the kid's meal as having chicken fingers and fries, just be aware that the fries are extra!! They were actually billed separately. That hardly seems fair for a five-year-old that held it together pretty well for two straight hours!

The Red Snapper is a hidden gem! Tucked away in a strip mall in need of refurbishing, this restaurant is old school and so delicious. Seafood with a bit of Thai flair. Everything I have ordered here has exceeded my expectations. The stuffed flounder, the snapper with mushrooms, and the oysters rockefeller are all amazing. The atmosphere is cozy as well. This place is definitely on my list of good seafood restaurants in the ATL. Reasonably priced as well.

I really enjoyed this place. I think the food deserves at least one more star for being tasty. However when I went in there you would have thought I was there for the early bird special cause there were so many elderly people there dining. Nothing wrong with that but there seemed to be a unusual amount of people with air tanks I found a little odd. They seem to have buy one get one free coupons in several papers.

I came here today for the first time with one of my colleague's who raved about this place. I was so excited after viewing the menu online and reading some of the Yelp reviews. Well I ordered the gumbo and red snapper bites with fries. The gumbo was okay, had a decent flavor, but not really gumbo like I'm used to. Something was off, it was more like a gravy rather than a roux. My entree was good, i was a little surprised that my red snapper was fried in a tempura batter. I was expecting a corn meal based batter. But nevertheless, it was tasty. The fries were good. I decided to order some coconut cake to go. Opened the cake a couple hours later and was so very disappointed. This coconut cake was gross. It had a whipped cream type of icing rather than vanilla or cream cheese icing. The cake part didn't taste right. I am a cake lover and this cake was off. I am disappointed I paid $7 for that mess. You live and you learn. If I go back, and I'd skip out on the soup and dessert. It was just a fair meal. I wouldn't recommend given the multitude of restaurants in the area. The service was pleasant.

I cant believe i have not reviewed this place yet as a friend and i went here the other day and i really enjoyed myself. My friend not so much but he isnt the one writing the review. When i was a kid we used to vacation in Panama City, FL and we went to an awesome seafood restaurant called Red Snapper so when i saw Atlanta's version of Red Snapper i decided i had to go. Its nothing like the Red Snapper in Panama City but its darn good. The decor is very old world. The restaurant made me feel like i was dining in a quaint little place during the civil war. The server was beyond fantastic. He was an handsome english gentlemen who could not stop smiling and could not stop being attentive as he possibly could. We both had the seafood platter and it was chock 'O block full of food. Oysters, shirmp, clams, fish fillets, muscles, and a big baked potato. It was all seasoned to perfection. My friend thought it was to greasy but so what. I liked it and i will go back. My parents would love this place.

Had lunch here a couple of days ago, it was good. I had the Jamaican Chicken, good portion for lunch, tasted great and was quick. The guys there were really nice too, and it's family owned which is a plus. My friend had the Ginger Snapper and it was tasty according to him. Love the awning out front, reminds me of restaurants when I was a kid in Queens.

You'll never find this place unless you're looking for it, as it sits within the realm of adult stores on Cheshire Bridge Rd. And it's an adult place too, I'm always the youngest person in there. The decor is old, the building is old, it's all old. But who cares really, it's about the food, and the food here is magnificent. You won't find anything on the menu you don't love, and you'll want to come back for more again and again.

Well... I like the fish here but the sides are seriously in need of a re-do. The fish is tasty but not the best I've had. The sides are something out of a nursing home in my opinion. They ruin the fish that would probably be elevated with something more thoughtful. But I still kiind of like this place - just need a re-do on the sides please.

I've had lunch and dinner here, and both times were great. It has a classic vibe that is really comfortable. Nothing challenging here, just very solid seafood with a Thai twist here and there. I love the house dressing, it tastes like something straight out of a country club dinning room circa 1978 (this could also describe the whole experience). The bar is surprisingly well stocked as is the wine list. As has been noted, you can tell the owners run this place with love and dedication.

Whole in the wall, simple and delicious fish. Not much on ambience/atmosphere but the food is really good. Hot, hot bread!! The fish and veggies were simply prepared - grilled - so won't knock you off the charts if watching calories or fat. Not drenched in butter like you typically find. The service was friendly. The fish (red snapper) was really great. It's tucked away next to a pipe shop I think but worth finding.

The Red Snapper has been serving its namesake since the mid-1980's. Like most good restaurants on Cheshire Bridge Rd., The Red Snapper is next to "adult goods" store and across the street from a gay disco. But don't let the surroundings keep you from experiencing some of the best seafood Atlanta has to offer. A friendly wait staff and attentive managers add to a very pleasant dining experience. The next time you want a good seafood meal in a comfortable atmosphere, I wholly recommend The Red Snapper.

I had been looking at The Red Snapper for years but the facade skeeved me out so I never tried it. So glad I finally did. I had no idea but the food is great and the inside has, well, character. It is a blue hair Mecca! Like, your grandmother eats there. She shows up right at 5:30pm. She probably had her first date with your grandpa at The Red Snapper. And why not? The food is really, really, really good. Start with the fried soft shell crab. It is on a little bit of fettuccine with a little curry sauce. I emphasize 'a little' because the crab is the star. Despite the extra yumminess the crab stays crisp and succulent inside. Or try the Crabmeat En Coquille which is spinach and crab in a very thin pastry. Sounds weird, right? Delicious! There are lots of fish and shellfish choices on the menu but the whole point of going is the snapper. They do snapper seven or eight ways. I chose the Snapper Gourmet which was absolutely scrumptious. It was on rice pilaf and vegetables and topped with, wait for it, lump crab with toasted slivered almonds and a dab of hollandaise. It melts in your mouth. The homemade coconut cake was a perfect way to end the meal. Have to mention the service which was excellent and everyone is friendly and helpful. A very good experience!

We went there Last Saturday without a reservation! July 4th! We had no trouble getting in! We were on convention. It's obvious that the chef went to a fine culinary school! The service was crisp, attentive but not over bearing. We do not drink so when no booze was ordered it was handled with grace. No snide remarks. A nice small loaf of fresh hot bread was delivered to table! Everything we ordered was excellent! A fresh vegetable salad with a nice oriental flare dressing! One meal was broiled scallops in a lovely mushroom sauce served over what appeared to be jasmine rice pilaf! Excellent. I ordered the special for the day! Fresh halibut Broiled with fresh crabmeat in a superb sauce with grilled potatoes and julienne vegetables. The portion was adequate! Most delicious! We had room for dessert! Picture enclosed! Homemade coconut cake. A little pricey $7 for a small slice. But it was very good. We also had a spiced cinnamon apple dish with vanilla ice cream. Nice ending to a great meal. Lucky people in northeast Atlanta! If this place was in San Antonio Texas there would be lines out the door!

From the outside, this small, seafood restaurant owned by a Thai family looks like the type of hole in the wall place likely to give you food poisoning the next day. However inside you will find a nice, homey, classy, tasteful seafood restaurant. The seafood can be best described as average. Presentation was not very great, however, the food was better than it looked. I had the blackened shrimp which came with an assortment of vegetables and potatoes. My parents had the blackened snapper and an assortment of fried seafood. We agreed that everything was good. Not great but good. Overall, probably not the best seafood in Atlanta, however, The Red Snapper is a cute, classy restaurant with pretty good seafood.

Saturday night August 29th I attended a birthday dinner at the Red Snapper our waiter was tremendously outstanding! The food was very, very divine superb I must say. Hats off to the chef Monty my plate looked and taste like I was a queen royalty. I will be returning. I'm just saying Red Snapper you are on POINT. Loved It. See You All Again Real Soon!

It was my first time there but my friend who brought me was a regular. The food was good, the people were really friendly and the prices were reasonable. If you are looking for some really good fish dishes then you should definitely give it a try. I ordered snapper off the menu and my friend had the special. I would definitely return.

This place was totally amazing. The food was fresh, the service was wonderful, the atmoshphere was comfortable and the restrooms were clean. I celebrated my birthday here and had a large party of people. The waiteres were very attentive to everyone. The food was delightful. If you visit the gumbo is a must. I had sampled several appetitzers and was too full to eat my entree so I took it to go. I had it for lunch 2 days letter and it was great! That is a good indication that they have fresh food. Drinks were good as well. Kudos to the chef and staff.

We started with the Gumbo that was delicious, great flavor and not too thick. Next, the Snapper Siam and Curried Shrimp and Scallops were amazing. Both dishes were full of flavor and had slightly Asian influences. Great choices! We ended with Coconut cake that tasted straight from the islands. Definitely the best coconut cake I have ever had.

I've had my fare share of seafood, and this place executes snapper beautifully! I had the soft-shell crab as an appetizer, which was one of the best I've had (I love soft-shell crab). It's breaded and fried beautifully, served on a bed of fettucine with veggies. I tried the Snapper Siam and the Blackened Snapper, both amazing. The blackened was done right and the siam had a wonderful flavor. Full bar, cocktails were nice. Service was great. Romantic atmosphere. Love the old school reservations ledger. Would recommend and definitely come again.

After eating here the last few weeks in a row with my husband and our two children, I have to brag how terrific the seafood has turned out to be and I am very proud of this restaurant. I am a culinary chef who schooled at the International Culinary Arts Institute of Switzerland and have to give this restaurant an A+ rating.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would.... EXCELLENT HANDS DOWN.. from start to finish... I just can't believe I drove by this place so many times & never decided to eat there.. but always saw the parking lot PACKED.. that should have been the good sign to eat here. Well I was reading the reviews on YELP and I am a elite reviewer on there so I decided to come here about 8:45pm on Friday night.. the parking lot was packed we had to park all the way in the back down the hill. We walked in got seated right away.. the restaurant was nice w/ the table cloths & settings not too much over the top but nice. We started out with the Soft Shell Crab over Fettuchini appetizer ... OMG THAT WAS SO GOOD we demolished it... That could be an entree itself if had more noodles and another crab... Next we ordered the house special which I cant recall the name but it was red snapper served w/ season jasmine rice w/ sauteed spinach & asparagus topped with some nuts in a orange marmalade /w capers light sauce.. THIS WAS SO GOOD make you want to jump up an smack somebody... We also order a glass of the Vila Rosa Moscato d'Asti this was so good we should have gotten the bottle but we had to drive home.. For desert I ordered the Apple Normandy (my opinion the best dessert on the menu) my friend ordered the chocolate mouse cake an it was good but mine was so much better he kept trying to eat up my dessert... I have been to a LOT of restaurants in Atlanta , this place TOPS all of them.. We will be coming back here..

Went there on a Saturday night. Although pretty full, we did not need a reservation. I ordered the Shrimp Gumbo for an appetizer and I must say it was some of the gumbo outside New Orleans. For the main course I had Snapper Yvonne and my girlfriend had Snapper Gourmet. Both meals were perfect and served hot. The snapper were had fantastic flavor. The staff was outstanding. They were attentive without interrupting our dinner or conversation. You will not go wrong going to this long established restaurant.

This is one of those hidden gems for sure! My best friend and I were in town for a few days and a couple friends were planning to try this place for dinner so we decided to join them after checking out a few of the other reviews. All the reviews were definitely dead on. Everyone at the table agreed that their food was undeniably fresh and tasteful! The waiter was extremely pleasant and being that it was all our first time at the restaurant she provided us all with a brief of all the menu favorites. We talked about how great the food was the entire ride to the next spot lol. Can't wait to try something else on the menu our next visit to Atlanta!

There's not a lot of parking but one of the employees helped us find a parking spot. The food was really good and the service was great. The portions were a good size. It's a lot nicer on the inside than you'd expect from the outside, since there's a big sign from one of the other shops that makes you think there's a strip club next it (for that you have to go two shops up). I'd recommend it to anyone that loves seafood.

Fried Seafood Platter - Snapper, Shrimp, and Oysters. After watching the PBS special from a few years back, I knew I had to try The Red Snapper and I think it lives up to the hype. In the south we are used to traditional seafood camps serving fried everything from the ocean. This is one of those restaurants that has been on Cheshire Bridge for years, and is a little out of place with all the "interesting" places up and down the street. Also, its outward appearance would lead you to believe that it is a dump. Maybe on the exterior, but the interior completely makes up for that. When you step inside, you come into a small bar area and host stand. I came in without reservations on a busy night and they were able to seat me after a brief wait at the bar. The dining room area is more upscale than I imagined, not five star, but pretty classy for a Seafood joint on Cheshire. It's doesn't have the laid back vibe of Six Feet Under - it's a place you would want to take a date and have a quiet dinner. Something about it reminds me of Alfredos down the street - maybe it's the white tablecloths and the small dining area. Regardless it is definately old school and not what you would expect, but in a good way. The night I visited I was probably the youngest patron there . I felt as though i was in a south Florida retirement community for a minute or on the set of Cocoon. Old folks generally realize great value and I can see why many flock here. I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter and it was great, especially the Fried Oysters. This is Classic Southern Fried Seafood with a Thai influence. I came in with the best intention of ordering the Ginger Snapper, but seeing those around me order seafood platters made me change my mind. Next time - Ginger Snapper, I have to try it. If you are looking for something different from all the new up and coming places to eat around town try the Red Snapper. It's a classic in Atlanta and I'm glad I found old-school seafood available ITP.

Don't let the outside appearance deter you if you're looking for a fish dinner without the mark-up of a trendy, hip place. Simple preparations of snapper are its forte. Other fish looked good from across the nicely decorated and quiet dining room. Accompanying salad and veggies are fine but won't blow anyone away. Onion rings and fries were very good. Portions are modest but sufficient. Service is attentive. Full bar. You will be pleasantly surprised if you're looking for some good fish without the hype or noise of the Optimist, which is really in another league.

Cozy little place. Ordered the fried seafood platter and the Snapper Meunière. Came with a choice of potato or rice. We had potato as our side and they were so good. We also tried the coconut cake as recommended by our waiter but it was not all that. The service was good and attentive

The people who give this place more than 3 stars are either nuts or don't know good seafood. The only 'flesh' protein I eat is seafood - not pork, cow or chicken - so I consider myself a bit of an expert on the matter. The good points: (i) the fish here is very fresh (ii) the prices are reasonable for the quality and (iii) the atmosphere is intimate homey and classy. I like the setting here - chandeliers, tasteful warm red-colored walls, nice linens, formal dining room chairs. Definitely more upscale looking than most places. The reason I would not come back is the actual entrees lack any creativity, meaningful flavor and it is executed poorly. For example, I ordered the creole snapper. All I got was a small filet in some tomato sauce that could have passed as Italian on a bad day but not creole. What little flavor there was did NOT compliment the fish AT ALL! I was like, what rejected chef from what foodnetwork show thought of this ill-conceived recipe!?!? My mom loved her fried seafood platter. It seems like frying is what they know how to do best but that's not just not good enough if you're looking for a truly good seafood restaurant. My beloved ordered The gumbo and it was honestly delicious and if you like fried seafood, this is place a good option, but if your looking for excellent seafood prepared exquisitely, then this place fails to deliver to my standards.

YAY To the lump crab and shrimp over rice. NAY to the frozen veggies that came with it. My entree was tasty yet simple. The veggies lacked the freshness that the seafood had. I did takeout so I didn't get to enjoy the cute/romantic ambiance, but I shall definitely try this place again (maybe I'll sub the veggies next time). This hidden little gem won't stay too hidden for long! Pretty reasonable prices for the quality

Great drinks! The "Sunsplash" mixed drink was very cool and refreshing. The food is okay for the price. I ordered the fried seafood platter because the chef would not steam my oysters...apparently, he only fries oysters in the restaurant. I prefer steamed, broiled or baked seafood. The service was great, very similar to a 3 or 4 star establishment. However, it took a very long time for my food to come out. I ordered the crab coquille for an appetizer and it was very tasty: a wrapped paper-thin pastry filled with lump crab meat and spinach. I felt under dressed in a white blouse and high-waisted denim skirt. I think it would be best to not wear jeans to this kind of place. It has a very classy vibe going on despite the actual location. Coconut cake was for dessert. It was creamy and delicious. Lots of senior citizen patrons. Parking was a little Russian roulette because the lot is so small, cramped and funky shaped. If it didn't take so long for my entree to arrive to the table, I would have given 4 stars. Next time I will order to-go.

This is the best seafood in Atlanta. The dishes are very flavorful. Presentation is impressive. When I first entered the restaurant, I was apprehensive because the ambiance reminded me of an old school Chinese restaurant. I didn't like the smell when I first walked in. The staff was very friendly, and everything we ordered ( ginger snapper, snapper Siam, curry salmon and special) was very delicious. I will definitely be back and invite friends who appreciate great seafood!

Three stars at best even with a $20 off Scoutmob. Caters to an older crowd whose tastes are outdated. Both glasses of red wine were pretty bad. The soft crab appetizer was spongy instead of crisp. The entrees were decent. Ambiance was a miniature model of the Santa Maria on the bar top and a pair of Nikes hanging from the power line that traversed the parking lot just outside our table window. Could have picked up some Lobster Tails and a good bottle of wine at the store and been better off.

My boss took me here for my birthday dinner. My first impression of the place was that it was cozy, full, and reminded me of my grandmother's house. In a good, comfy, way. Gone are the sharp, sterile, lines of contemporary decor. No steel beams or warehouse lighting here. Here, one finds a nostalgic, plush, juxtaposition of Thai, the early 90's, and someone's grandma's living room. Or perhaps, the feel was reminiscent of an old restaurant on Bleeker street, NYC. Either way, I quite liked it. Service: Prompt and professional. Ordered: App: Crab Vidalia: A cool fresh crab salad with greens and a citrus dressing. Topped with diced tomatoes and sliced white onions. Tasty. Entree: This menu offered at least 7,233 different versions of snapper. I ordered the Snapper Yvonne. Flaky, perfectly cooked, with a tart lemon sauce. Fresh lump crab was seasoned and sprinkled on top with the lemon sauce. All well done. Dessert: Great key lime pie. Tasted fresh. Whipped topping was delicious, lime filling could use more tartness for my taste. All in all, I quite enjoyed the meal. Take: Your mom. Wear: A faux fur stole.

This place looks like a hole in the wall, then you walk into a small fine dining resturant. This place is one of the best seafood restaurants in Atlanta. Every course was great, from appetizer to desert. All of the deserts are homemade. The coconut cake was great.

I had seen The Red Snapper on a GPTV special years ago and have been meaning to check it out. We took my parents here recently for dinner since they love fish and Asian food. It does look a little suspect from the outside and the age of the restaurant definitely shows, but I think this is a good thing. There is something to be said for a restaurant that can stay in business for so long (20+ yrs.) and not have to entice customers with a fancy décor and location. We started with the Crabmeat En Coquille and it was delicious. The puff pastry was delicate and the crab meat and creamed spinach filling was very tasty. We also tried the shrimp remoulade and enjoyed it as well. For my entrée I ordered the Snapper Siam and it did not disappoint. The fish tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. I tried some of the Ginger Snapper my wife ordered and enjoyed it as well. My parents ordered the Grilled Salmon and Snapper Yvonne and they were more than pleased. They asked why I had not brought them to this restaurant sooner and then listed off a few places that we had been recently that they did not enjoy. I highly recommend trying The Red Snapper if you have not been. If you are looking for a trendy spot to impress a date, this is not your place. If you are looking for well-prepared fresh seafood in slightly Asian flavors, this is your place. It is a tad on the expensive side with entrees averaging $20 a plate, but totally worth it.

For a $$ restaurant, this is as good as it gets. They do a thai/creole menu, and the combinations work really well. I've been here twice. Each time my fish was cooked perfectly. The buerre blanc is fabulous, and the fish is never lacking flavor. This place is a hidden gem to me because it's sort of a hole in the wall on Cheshire Bridge wedged in between a strip joint and Taqueria del Sol. The service was good. It seemed like a thai family is running the place so expect a little of the awkwardness you would get at an authentic Chinese restaurant, but everyone spoke enough English for me to get an explanation of everything.

Having seen Red Snapper featured on GPTV's special broadcast, "Get Delicious," I knew I had to give the restaurant a try. We popped in to Red Snapper after a catching a film at the Tara. Jim Stacy, host of "Get Delicious," is a foodie who knows his stuff -- so we made it a point to duplicate his meal. My husband started with gumbo, which was delish: a thick, flavorful broth with fish, shredded crabmeat and just the right amount of rice. I started with the house salad. The dressing tasted like my grandmother's not-so-special concoction of mayo & ketchup. (Gumbo for me instead, next time.) The ginger snapper looked wonderful on tv, so that's what I had. Topped with shrimp and garnished with micro-greens, the fish was flavorful, with a delightful ginger tang. My only complaint was that the snapper was fried, and a tad mushy. T. ordered the broiled seafood platter -- a generous portion of snapper, shrimp and big, sweet scallops. This dish is a winner. The restaurant was practically filled to capacity at 7 p.m. -- and remained that way till we left. (Might not be a bad idea to make reservations.) There are clearly a lot of regulars including a number of older folk enjoying their evening out. October 2013 Update: The gumbo is as good as I remembered it to be. The broiled platter, not so much. Don't get me wrong -- it wasn't bad. I enjoyed the scallops and shrimp, but the snapper was nondescript. I spent time talking to a lovely couple at the neighboring table. "Oh, you must try the tiramisu. It's the best anywhere!" Mrs. X said. So we did. My opinion? Eh.... Next time -- and there will be a next time -- a big bowl of gumbo, a nice salad, a glass of wine, and we'll call it a day.

Shady looking on the outside, but very nice, with delicious seafood on the inside! I would love to eat here again the next time I'm in the area because I was very impressed. They seem to have a lots of regulars as well!

This is an amazing little GEM that has to be the best kept secret in Atlanta. Tucked in a little building on Cheshire Bridge, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The staff is excellent and they have an incredible menu (something for everyone). Seafood with an Asian flair. I took my wife for a pre-Valentine's day dinner and we were not disappointed. We are ready to go back and try some other things on their extensive menu. I am a gumbo fanatic (having lived in Texas and Louisiana) and theirs was exceptional. They have oysters, which I will try next visit. Lots of snapper dishes as well as other seafood and steaks too. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed. The parking is in front and limited so get there early.

Small place but great food! The name says it all lots of Red Snapper dishes, as well flounder and Steak. We were told they were good and I can say it is true. The food was very well done and not to pricy. I very much recommend you try this one!

When I left here, I probably would have given it 4 stars, but the more I think about it, the more I realized it wasn't that great. It was good, but not deserving of more than 3 stars. Came here with my girlfriend and her mom. We sat down, but weren't helped very quickly. When we were, multiple servers came by and asked us the same question - this didn't upset me as much as it did my girlfriend, but you expect in nice restaurants for the servers to have their heads screwed on. Additionally, my girlfriend asked how something was prepared, and they essentially just regurgitated what the menu said - not helpful at all. Her mom got a fried seafood platter, and she couldn't stop raving about how good the fried oysters were. My girlfriend got a fish dish with creole sauce, and was expecting a cream based sauce, not a tomato sauce, so she was very disappointed. I got a steak and Jamaican shrimp and a cup of seafood gumbo. I think the gumbo is what had me so happy with the restaurant at first. The gumbo is fantastic, and I could have ate a vat of it. It was thick, with chucks of seafood and lump crab meat. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. The shrimp was very good. Not as good as the gumbo, but good. The Jamaican sauce was spicy and delicious. The steak was hugely disappointing. It was supposed to be a 7oz strip steak, I think. And it was, but it was a bad cut of meat (I eat strip steaks frequently, so I know this). It didn't taste very flavorful and was seriously overcooked. Asked for it medium, and there wasn't a spot of color other than gray. It was poorly seasoned. So I guess things started great with the gumbo, and went downhill from there. Oh yeah, and they have a small limited parking lot. They have additional parking in the rear, which is down a hill into a poorly lit very small lot with maybe a couple of more spaces Like many restaurants, it just depends on what you get. The moral of this story then is get the seafood gumbo, maybe an appetizer (if they have it) of the Jamaican shrimp, and then the fried seafood platter, and you'll be in seafood heaven.

Food = 2 (I had the gumbo and special trout with crab... the crab smelled and the fish was off tasting? The older ladies at the table next to me looked like they were regulars... I see that this place gets good reviews. Maybe my visit was on an off day?) Price = 2 (25.00 for lunch with no alcohol involved? too much) Experience = 3 (the service was nice, but if the food falls short... who cares?) Just okay... Not special?

This place is AWESOME!!! I wish I actually lived in Atlanta so I could come here all the time, but I think I will try to convince my dad to take me back here every time I come to visit. It's so old school and inconspicuous squeezed in the middle of a bunch of different run down buildings on cheshire, but that really adds to the whole experience! We went on a week night without a reservation and it was fine, but I guess it would probably be a good idea to make a reservation because its not huge. I loved how when we sat down everyone else at the restaurant around 6 pm was over 70 years old probably. Made me feel like it was a classic. The decorations are definitely old school, you feel like your sitting in an old fashioned dining room. The table decor is old too, but again I really thought it added to the whole experience. Our service was good and thorough, and the menu was amazing!! There are so many different things to chose from, especially all of the different snapper dished (hence the name). My dad got the fried seafood platter and I got the snapper yvonne with crab meat on top. Both were delicious and extremely filling! I've never had fried scallops before, but I must say it was great. My meal was so creamy and decadent and I literally ate every single bit. We also had a cold crab salad appetizer, can't remember the name, and we scooped up every bite of that as well. I'd say if you live in Atlanta and you haven't been here yet you are definitely missing out! Great way to mix things up a bit and go old school. Amazing seafood!

The Red Snapper was actually pretty good. When I went for dinner, there were not many people so getting a table was pretty easy. The food was also pretty good and the service was pretty good. I only wished they had other dessert options.

I don't know how The Red Snapper does it. I really don't. The location is bizarre, the decor is 100 years old, but the food is absolutely, hands down the best seafood in Atlanta. We had the ginger and mushroom snapper, the seafood platter and the snapper evon and they were all 5 starts. Just amazing. Will go back again and again and send all my skeptical friends there.

When I was a kid, my family spent summers visiting relatives in NJ. It was a strange place to me, filled with plastic-covered furniture and Asian lacquered decorations tacked onto wood paneling and shag carpet. We'd spend our days playing tag with cousins and our nights turning over the plastic carpet runners so that the spikes that held them in place pointed upwards and stabbed the unknowing. Pictures of these days, yellowed and fading, still exist, everyone rocking the 70s hair and non-ironic facial hair (because, hey, casual irony had yet to be invented.) I bring this up only because stepping into the Red Snapper felt exactly like stepping into one of these old photos. This is not to say that the Red Snapper is run down. It's clean and well-maintained, rocking the restaurant equivalent of polyester and a butterfly collar like disco had never died. That, and the fact that the Red Snapper has been in the same location since 1985 is strangely reassuring. Bu whereforethou the Asian decorations? In a seafood place called the Red Snapper? I mean, with that name, you'd expect worn-out seafood shack décor, a pirate bust, a stuffed pelican, netting. Instead, the space is decorated like a sedate Thai restaurant. This makes sense, since the owners are Thai. Seafood shanty chic and Thai flavors also collide on the menu. Befitting the name, snapper plates abound. Have them grilled, fried, broiled. Blackened, almandine, gingered and cajuned. My wife had the Snapper Siam with sweet and sour sauce, topped with lump crab meat. I had the fried shrimp platter, the light batter closer to tempura than a traditional fish shack's. So, yes, it's your typical Thai/Cajun/seafood place. The staff was polite and efficient. Suggestions were made, but never pushed. Regulars were greeted by name. I heard one guy say, "I last ate here 25 years ago and it's just as good!" which is kind of a back-handed compliment when you think about it. Unless the dude just got out of prison. There were four other tables occupied during our visit, but the cumulative age of the diners was somewhere in the thousands. "Old school" doesn't just describe the restaurant, but the clientele as well. That didn't bother me though. As I mentioned earlier, the bouffant 'dos the ladies were sporting, the big, jangly watches the men were wearing, the hugs I saw the regulars give to the staff--it all took me back to visiting family in late 70s New Jersey. Anachronistic? Yes. The best food in the world? Not quite, but still good. The most cutting edge? Not really. But that's not what this place is trying to be. For that alone, I see The Red Snapper definitely as a keeper.

Being a Gulf Coast girl, I'm pretty picky about my seafood. I like it fresh and simple. I ordered the crab and shrimp over rice. There were huge chunks of lump crab and 5 or 6 large shrimp with a light lemon sauce served over rice pilaf, simple and perfect. I enjoyed being able to taste the seafood and not have it masked by other flavors/sauces. My husband had the snapper Siam, although it wasn't very spicy, it was delicious! We will definitely be back.

Hate to give reviews like this but the food just wasn't that good. :( I've had better fried fish at Captain D's (yes I know that's sad) rather than here. To start with the decor it doesn't match the restaurant. Makes you feel like your about to eat great Thai food or Italian food, but not seafood. The waiter was very nice and came back frequently to check on us. They don't have many other options other than seafood (and unfortunately I'm allergic to shellfish) so that limited my options, to two dishes, salmon or chicken which neither of the dishes looked very good. However, I did order the Curry Salmon and it was fabulous! Cooked to perfection! And the sauce was great! Most of the entrees came with steamed veggies that looked like it came out of a bag. :( Everyone else at our party had a "good" meal but neither was "over-the-top" delicious, "must come back" good. Their Key Lime pie was very good and tart and not full of sugar. Probably won't be back, it was "ok". Price wise - food did not taste worth it's price.

Given all the great reviews (nothing less than a 3!), I was hoping that our dinner would be extraordinary. When we entered, I caught the smell of...well....it just didn't smell right. We were greeted after several waiters passed us by....and we stood there....and stood there....even though the restaurant was ~ 1/4 capacity. It's alright, it's all about the food right? Since this place is all about red snapper (waiter told us that all the snappers are cooked the same- lightly breaded and pan fried, just paired with different sauces), we went ahead and ordered the following: Crabmeat in Coquille ($8.95)- This appetizer sounds fancy (and French), but this was basically crabmeat mixed with some spinach inside a deep fried spring roll (like the ones you find at different Asian restaurants). I realize that the owners are Thai, and I don't hold it against them. But describing the spring roll cover as a "pastry" just doesn't seem quite right. Flavor-wise, it's decent. But oil was dripping out of it. (3) Ginger Snapper ($17.95)- This was pretty decent. A hint of sweetness to complement the savory. Boiled potatoes and sauteed vegetables accompanied both of our entrees, and were done competently. But very plain. (3.5) Gourmet Snapper ($18.95)- The presentation was a bit strange for me. On top of the left side of the snapper filet was "hollandaise sauce" (that tasted like a sour version of thousand island), and on top of the left side of the filet was a smidgen of lump crab (likely canned) flavored with some herbs. The fish itself was alright, the crab by itself was okay for coming out of a can, and the hollandaise sauce...well, I just smeared as much of it as I could on the side of the plate. (3) This place was pretty packed out (got pretty full right after we got in), so I figure a lot of folks like this place- and there's got to be a reason why they've been around for as long as they have. We just didn't get the memo through tonight's meal. We wish them continued success....but we probably won't contribute to that success anytime soon.

Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but looks are deceiving in this case. I always look at inspection reports esp when eating seafood. Theirs was a 100A. The food was absolutely amazing: very fresh and nicely proportioned. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance on the inside was comfortable. Highly recommend!!

So very yummy! When you first come up to this place, it looks like a hole in the wall in the ghetto. This is truly a diamond in the rough. You walk inside and it sets a whole different mood than the outside building. The inside presents a romantic ambiance. Candlelit tables and mood lighting surrounds you. It's quiet and makes you feel like it's just the two of you. It was a fantastic date with my fiance. The food is fantastic. They offer many variations of Snapper. So many different ways of cooking it. They offer other types of seafood as well, but Snapper is their specialty. We will definitely be going back to try all the other meals. :)

Went here with my gram, aunts and uncles. I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is good and the ambience is surreal. It is a old South style seafood restaurant ([not unlike The Colonnade]) mostly patronized by geriatric types and staffed / owned / run by Asians. The strip mall that it is located in is an edgy / seedy one as is typical for the Cheshire Bridge neighborhood. The parking area alone is a trip. The parking lot flanks an ancient concrete bridge over a toxic looking creek. Across the creek is a luxury / upscale apartment complex. Something about the dichotomy of the luxury / upscale apartments in contrast with the ancient, wild privet-cluttered creek and the old concrete bridge seems really creepy but also somehow quite beautiful in a nostalgic kind of way. The food is good and largley well-prepared but the servings are a bit on the skimpy side (for the price [$13 to $19] range). The salad or soup that comes with the entree is pretty good too but I wish one could get both with the entree instead of one or the other. Also of note is that service is slow and erratic. Half the table got their entrees exactly one hour from the point we sat down; the rest of my group got their entrees about ten minutes later. Not cool. NOT COOL! But again, the food here is quite good. And I want to come here one night to drink and dine at the bar; if for no other reason just to compare and contrast the experience.

I heard about Red Snapper on the PBA special Get Delicious. Having a new found love for all things Thai, I was really excited to know the owners are Thai! I wanted to go right away, but decided I would wait a couple of months to try this new place until my birthday. I'm really glad I did. I checked out Red Snapper online, planning a perfect birthday menu, drooling over the seafood selections on more than one occasion. The only thing I was unsure of before we walked in was what my birthday drink would be. The exterior is the very definition of unassuming (tucked into a two story run down office building). We were greeted kindly, everyone said hello, and we were seated immediately. I was contemplating a birthday martini and the first thing I noticed was the Martini list on our table. The Red Snapper Martini tasted like candy. Next I noticed the decor, some Thai leather carvings, mixed with upscale mom and pop decor, dark romantic colors and white tablecloths. Our server was one of the best I've ever had, very kind. In general I'd say the service was very Thai style, minus the part where the server waits to come to you until they are asked over, a good mix. The food was so incredible. It was one of those meals where you want to have as much of the yummy food as possible, but never want it to end, so you take little teeny bites to make it last forever. What? I'm the only one? The shrimp cocktail was yummy, nothing out of the ordinary, but very good. The fried seafood platter was very light, but of course very fried. This would be a good shared dish. I had the ginger snapper which was heaven on a plate for ginger freaks. Dessert was creme brulee, good but not outstanding. If it wasn't my birthday I think I'd just skip dessert. At the end of the meal I declared The Red Snapper our new "celebration" restaurant. So, what's next on the celebration calendar, I want to go back now!

Outside looks like an old motel that has been renovated to have restaurant in the lobby area. Looks are deceiving. Inside was very tasteful and upscale. The Jamaican Sauce Shrimp I had was great and my wife loved the baked red snapper. If I did not live over 100 miles away, would definitely have it on my "go to " list.

This is the worst seafood spot I've ever eaten at. I came here out of my trust in Yelp, and although I still have faith in this site, Red Snapper shocked me. Try AFM, Big Catch, and Coast (although certainly third) as replacements. Dinner for 2 was around $100 at Red Snapper, and it had a disgusting ambiance, menu, presentation, service, and food.

Oh how I've missed thee, Red Snapper! I haven't been here in a good long minute. I guess it's because Red Snapper is a quiet, intimate type place, and as of late, I only roll w/ the loud overly obnoxious crowd. I guess the older we get, the louder we become, maybe to prove we still got it? hmmm... or maybe because we're so old, we're hard of hearing now. My very first visit to Red Snapper was probably 7 or 8 years ago, and upon hearing the name I expected a Chinese restaurant. Of course, like with most things, I was wrong. The restaurant is indeed owned and operated by a Thai couple, but to me it's not an Asian restaurant, maybe because I've always ordered the same thing when I've been here, the crab meat au gratin w/ added scallops. The bisque is here is also very good, we usually have them add crab meat. The service here has always been excellent. The decor could probably use a pick me up, but then again that might take away from it's character. A sweet quiet place for sweet quiet people

Best sauteed spinach in Atlanta! I love the veggies here. I'm alergic to shellfish and other seafood but went here with some friends for a birthday party expecting to end up full of crackers and butter but I was very pleased to find the veg/salad portions very generous and very tasty. Even the onion rings were special and obviously fresh. All the other guests loved their fare as well. Try the key lime pie, too!

I really enjoyed eating here. I am pretty picky when it comes to seafood, I used to live in New Orleans. The boil is so super close to the boil i could get in New Orleans. It was spicy and full of flavor. I will be back again.

Like many of the restaurants along Cheshire Bridge Rd. the Red Snapper is hands down one of the best and most un-assuming venues in the city. In the case of the Snapper the seafood is fresh and delicious. Everything I've ever had on the menu is great, but be sure to save room for coconut cake at the end of your meal.

Probably one of the better meals I've ever had in Atlanta. We were nervous from outside looking in but so glad we went inside. Service was great. DH said it was the best gumbo he's ever had. Loved the shrimp on the seafood platter. Loved the coconut cake. We'll sooo be back.

I had a variation of the "special" - snapper (snap-ahhhh) with a ginger/citrus sauce and sweet potatoes and spinach. It was very good - great even. I managed (barely) not to order the coconut cake. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Yes, there were plenty of older folks and the decor wasn't great. Still, I'll definitely go back and try some other snap-ahhhh dishes...and some of that coconut cake...

  • Saira K.

Polite service in this hideaway restaurant from another era. My shrimp cocktail wasn't fresh. The crabcake topped with mango was good but too small - with large chunks of crab. The best part of the meal was the chocolate mousse cake - made in-house. The elderly couple next to me was sweet (I was the youngest person there), and the woman said I broke her heart by not ordering the coconut cake - that this was a sin! Lol! The worst part of the meal was paying $2 for a small loaf of not so great bread. I don't recall ever paying for bread at a restaurant. I paid $31 for a small-ish crabcake, unfresh shrimp cocktail, and a slice of cake, and bread.

The food here is really good. That's pretty much all there is to it. I've been here four times, twice with just the two of us, once with parents, and once with a friend. Everything that everyone ordered was great. They have both basic American/European preparations (blackened fish or fish with crab meat and hollandaise) as well as Asian preparations (ginger fish or curry fish). The sides are simple, but very well done. As other reviewers have noted, the ambiance is very old-school. If you in the mood for a hip atmosphere or innovative cocktails, this ins't the place. But, if you want a great meal and some great conversation with your fellow diners, try the Red Snapper.

My husband and I had dinner here tonight after seeing it featured on a show about Atlanta's best hidden restaurants. The food was amazing. I cannot remember having a better Gumbo. Anywhere. (This includes NOLA y'all.) The Oysters Rockefeller was sumptuous and the Blackened Seafood Platter was divine. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is old school meets cozy romantic. Definitely a great date night spot.

Made my first visit to this restaurant. I was with a group of nine on a Saturday night. Parking was a problem, so come together. The service was very good but the entrees took over an hour after ordering. The Red Snapper specials were very good. They have a full service bar, and the wine choices were very good. I thought some of the items were overpriced. The restaurant felt dated to me and the patrons were definitely senior in age. I probably will not return, but they appear to have a loyal following.
