Wow...Mother.....not you too! I live in Tennessee and visited my sister last weekend. She graduated Tech last year and I love to go out in town with her when I visit. Other than Nashville, we just don't have much of a scene in Tennessee. So on Saturday, we hit Edgewood Avenue. For the newbies to Edgewood, if you are a female and alone with girlfiriends, you should pick your party spot carefully. MOTHER has finally gotten security! We came a year ago and they did not have any security. It was not very reassuring. The second visit...I really only have one complaint. A cover charge? Really? We waited in line a LONG time, and then got to the front and 2 guys just walked up, paid $10 each to the door guy and stepped right in front of us and went right in. Not cool! But, at least they had security. After we got in, we did have fun though. It was packed and they had security up and down stairs, so we did feel good about it. Also, even though it was packed, we did get our drinks pretty quickly and they were tasty! The bartender took a second to ask if we were having fun...so that was nice. Anyway, I will end here. We will visit again the next time I'm in town. So overall, thumbs up.

After a never ending game of darts at Church bar, we migrated to MOTHER en route to Joystick. It looks like Mother is a restaurant by day and a dance club by night, although it's mostly bar food? We headed straight upstairs after ordering our drinks and avoided the crowded first floor area. Note the bathroom is on the bottom floor, a floor below the floor of the entrance. The specials menu assures you that the kitchen is open all night, although we didn't take advantage of that fact. I noticed an old picture from 2.7.14 that has the EXACT same drink specials menu as the one I saw (see for yourself the picture that Talib K. posted versus mine), so looks like there was no need for something new around here. The regular menu was a little boring, but do ask for it to see what beers and food they have available. There were only two shots specials that night, and I was very scared of the Pickle Back, although I do love pickles. Pickle juice as a chaser seems too out there for me. Instead of ordering what seemed to be the hipster beers of choice (PBR and Fat Tire), I ordered three shots for the girls as promised, the Fire Water shot. I'm not a fan of whiskey, but I stomached it for the girls. It's quite a deal as it's essentially two shots in one: a shot of Tully whiskey and a shot of Fireball as your chaser. That whiskey and Fireball leaves your throat burning for a long time after you take the shot. We headed to the dance floor afterward, where we saw quite a few people getting down. The crowd is vastly different from the Buckhead bar scene, especially Hole in the Wall. It was awesome seeing the integration of us all (yes, even the token Asians) dance to '80's, '90's and today's hits together, though. There were a few songs that I had never heard of and had trouble getting into when dancing... So after a while I got a little tired of the DJ and his poor music selection - but maybe that's just me. A good time for the adventurous! Be sure to add this venue to your barhopping plan.

Ok, they got me as a total fan! It's a small, quaint bar but the atmosphere is warming and authentic. I enjoy the raw wood decor and bare minimum design tactics. Gives it an edgy look in my opinion. It was a Wednesday night after work about 7p when I stepped in. The atmosphere was quiet amd patrons were few. I sat at the bar and the artsy hottie behind the bar asked my order and went through the menu with me. In my "keeping it light" mindset, I ordered the fries and beer cider. By the time the fries arrived my friends had too and they ordered up all kinds of stuff that I can't remember. But I remember that everyone was surprised at the awesomeness of the bar food. The fries are worth raving about. Seriously. Seriously. Go eat them! And some drink my friend ordered was worth bathing in. Sorry can't remember what it was. Overall, this could quickly become one of my favorite Edgewood hangouts.

If you have an upset tummy but your friends are pressuring you to go out, go here! There's a whole floor of bathrooms. You no longer have to deal with shitting in a bar bathroom with people knocking on the door incessantly and yelling "OH THEYRE TAKING A SHIT". To sum it up, you can shit in a bar bathroom knowing there's a very kind man guarding the door for you. When you're done with your shameful bar shit he says "have a good night" and you feel so warm inside.

Great Atmosphere Make Sure You See the Bartender Roberto. Great Customer service makes all the Difference
(5)Zach W.
I love this place. Great vibe. Cold Tecate and Taco Tuesday is pretty much all I needed to hear. We hung out on the patio out back and it was great. A nice little spot to drink a few and have a couple of tacos. I will repeat what a few others have said...you gotta get a pickle back.
(4)Liselle B.
I've been to Mother a few times, so I decided I would finally write a review. I tend to like the vibe, and the drinks and the food are usually decent. This last time I had to give it 3 stars based on a bartender that lacked good customer service skills: I ordered a burger and regular potato fries, and my fries came out burnt. I politely asked the bartender if they could give me a different or new batch of fries as I showed him the charred state my current batch was in. He replied that that's just the way they cook them in the fryer and any less cooked would be raw. **enter my blank stare/"What you talkin 'bout, Willis" face** So you meant to tell me your fryer only has 2 settings: Raw and Ashes?? Whatever dude. Anyway, that was my only complaint. Otherwise, Mother is a chill spot and I would recommend checking it out overall.
(3)Franchesca J.
Atmosphere is cool. It gets pretty hot upstairs when people start packing it in like sardines. Get there early because once the crowd rolls in they will start charging at the door. There's a gem of a bathroom in the basement that no one seems to know about because there's never a line.. (You're welcome). My only complaint would be that Every time I've been & paid with a card (credit or debit) my card gets charged twice...... dont know why but it's happened like 4 times & of course in my drunken frenzy I never notice until it's too late & doesn't matter anymore. Lesson learned though! Beware. Bring cash.

This place is all about the back patio. Perfectly lit, perfectly fenced, just perfect perfect on a warm spring night. It's a typical hipster/dance place on Edgewood Avenue. Fairy lights, brick walls, etc. etc. etc. There are two types of nights at Mother-- early evening and late night. Early evening is more of a drink a couple of beers, chill on the back patio/yard, enjoy life night. Late night is more of a raging, sweaty, crazy hipster dancing upstairs, enjoy life night. Gotta say they are both fantastic. If you want something more mellow, you can always head downstairs, which is really nice. Mother has something for every picky barhopper in your group. I've always had nice bartenders here and the drinks are reasonably priced. The DJ is also pretty decent. I can't say that I've ever eaten here, but the drinking is top notch. It's probably going to be a good night if I go to Mother.
(4)Kelsey D.
Your experience at Mother will depend on when you visit. If you're coming Thursday, Friday, or Saturday after 11pm...prepare for an enormous line to enter, never-ending line at the bar, and sweaty crowds of humans trying to see and be seen. However, I frequent on Wednesday afternoons to grab a quick drink...or Sunday evenings for the immaculate lamb burger....and it's deserted. The staff is so pleasant when you actually have a moment to chat and they actually have a moment to make your drink. Dancing upstairs is fun on the weekends. Always a mess. I haven't figured out their schedule (they have one) so I feel like it's always a hit or miss. Very crowded. Very sweaty. The patio is the perfect place for a date. People watching. Cars driving by. The string of lights. Picnic tables. Order the fries. With the herb mayo. Oh, and I don't understand how $2 Tuesdays aren't a bigger deal. The brisket & catfish are soooo good. Tip: Go to the bathroom beforehand, their lines on the weekends are epic.
(5)Tilia M.
Definitely a new favorite spot for me. Although I'd been to most of the bars and pubs along Edgewood, I'd never gotten a chance to go to Mother, so, during the CL pub crawl this weekend, we hopped across the street for some eats in between beers. It was late afternoon, so the bar was nearly empty, but had a casual but cool, moody atmosphere, attentive servers, and a tasty food. Not to mention, I hear this little lady's a smoke-free establishment, thank god. #teamnosmoke
(4)Ike M.
The lamb burger is great. Possibly all the rest of the food is great as well. But the lamb burger is *so* great, it's the only thing I ever order. As others have mentioned, it can be crowded on the weekends, and a sweaty mess of dancing upstairs...which is pretty much exactly what you'd want in such a place. The downstairs and back patio are a bit more chill. Yes, the bar can be crowded at peak times. Hint: tip the staff well early in the evening. They'll remember your face when the line is five people deep at 1AM. They've got top notch staff. Regardless, it's got good prices, a great vibe, and generally the sort of diverse crowd you only find on Edgewood. Hipsters, gangstas, bankers, and everything in between. And yes, if it's after midnight on the weekend, expect a crowd. That's because it's popular. And it's popular because it's good. So, suck it up, pardner. If 'no-crowd' is more your vibe, there's an excellent abandoned grass field and makeshift temporary parking lot directly to the South of Mother. Now, there's nothing there whatsoever but grass and sand, but it's definitely never crowded. But give Mother a shot.
(4)Yvette H.
Came with a crew anticipating the food but that night they were doing pop-up menu, which replaces their original menu with another restaurant's for tasters. We ordered one of each, but the portions were ridiculously tiny. The quality of the fod was great! We left after one drink to get more food someplace else since pricing was not ideal. The drinks we ordered were wonderfully made. Will have to return again in the future to taste their regular menu!
(3)M S.
Went last night for $2 tacos. And let me tell you. Mother has hands down the best tofu tacos in the ATL. $2 taco night is their regular tacos served a la carte. The beer selection is pretty good. BUT. I take away one star for the most disgusting kale/mushroom salad ever. It sounded delicious. But. In actuality was raw kale (spines and all) with a scoop full of canned mushrooms marinated in jarred garlic. It was slimy. And gross. And really. A shock. Especially given how great the tacos were. Tell the salad person to talk to the taco slaw person.

Sunday night. Fairly low key but lively. Lamb burger was AWESOME! Decent drink prizes. Worth checking out, just cab or Uber it there. And have the lamb burger.

Strolling through the bars on Edgewood Ave and on this Friday night I found Mother (the bar). I would say this place has 3 good things going for it: a backyard patio, good beer prices, and a second floor with a DJ. When I was in there the service was quick and the place wasn't insanely packed. The crowd was a mix of college kids and hipsters, then me. I still enjoyed the environment and would head back.
(4)Grant W.
Welllllllll. Were do i start. Usually i would give them a 5 star but i just ate a taco and now i have lock jaw. They actually might have served me a rubber tire. And open up that patio again huh?!
(1)Stephie Z.
Hecks yeah. Saturday night and Edgewood was bumpin'. Luckily we made it in the door long before a line formed. I guess that's the good thing about being old people... we head out earlier to drink. I think that probably has to do with making money and being able to afford your first drinks out instead of staying home to get your pre-drink on. Aside aside this place is filled with young peeps. Then again all of Edgewood sort of is. The night we went we headed out for the porch and patio. It was a lovely night made all the better by the chill vibe outside. Just people chatting it up and enjoying an adult beverage or 10. My new favorite shot is here- the glorious pickleback- which makes me want to swig pickle juice on the daily. The group of had a shot or 2 and then multiple rounds of some concoction. It was all good in the 'hood. The bartender was quite slow getting our drinks as well as our tabs, but that's the price you pay for a happening bar. As we were heading out we could hear some killer tunes coming out of the upstairs bar. I sort of wished I could have stayed to dance the night away, but there's always another night.
(4)Whitney H.
Their "dark and stormy" drinks are tasty but the wait is ridiculous. Matter fact, the actual bar is too tiny and getting a drink or even something to eat in a timely manner is like asking congress to make their mind.....about anything. Dancing up stairs is ok.... For a while but their DJ situation is either a hit or miss. The bathrooms are disgusting ...... Sooooo gross! CLEAN THEM PLEASE!
(3)Erin H.
I'm happy to see more and more restaurants and bars open on Edgewood. It's one of my favorite blocks in Atlanta. It has a big city vibe. Mother is a nice addition and it's SMOKE-FREE! Tofu Tacos and Fries The order is two tacos and comes with ginger coleslaw (clearly Asian inspired). I really enjoyed them and recommend it. I would order something on the side if you come with a big appetite. The fries were great too. Next time I look forward to trying their herb mayo. Old Man Fashion Definitely an upgrade for a casual bar cocktail however it's not as upscale like Sound Table. But I don't think it's the focus so I wouldn't count it against them. Atmosphere It feels like a true city bar. Long, deep space with booths on the left and the bar on the right. Dim Lighting and the music wasn't crazy loud. We were there a little early and didn't get to check out the upstairs but hope to check it out soon. Service At first everyone was friendly and genuinely appreciated the business but the staff is getting more of an attitude. I hope the manager takes note and doesn't let it go too far. It could totally ruin a good spot.
(4)Susannah H.
Super nice building, comfortable bar, but more than anything, I want to give a huge huge shoutout to the super awesome bartender! Thank you for your amazing suggestions on places to go to while in Atlanta! I checked out a bunch of them and have had a blast! So yeah, this place has amazing staff and I couldn't be more impressed! Thanks for being so nice, genuinely friendly, and super helpful! And nice pour on my whiskey too!
(4)Adam S.
Pickle back shots. Must I say more? This place does get busy on the weekends just like any other bar on the street. The karaoke is fun upstairs so that is for sure a must try if you haven't been there yet. As for the food. The lamb burger and pulled pork sandwich are decent. The wings... Don't bother. I think the idea is a good flavor for a wing, but too much lime just makes for sour tasting chicken. And the dipping sauce didn't help either by how bland it was. Go here to drink and have a good time. The bartenders are super cool and it's a great place to meet people.

This was my first time at Mother. I came out with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night. If you show up before 11ish, you'll get in pretty quickly. Anytime around midnight and later? Ha! Have fun standing in line. The line is suuuuuper long and you basically end up having to wait until people leave to get in. No ins and outs either, which makes sense. Dress in a t-shirt and jeans or get glamoured up... it doesn't really matter. The crowd was pretty diverse too. And if your under 21? They'll hunt down the fake ids like a dog, which I appreciate. So minors... stay away!!! Let us grown ups play in peace. Upon walking in, they have tables lined up against the wall and a bar in the back. They also have a patio outside as well. The layout is really nice. It's dimly light and they play top 40 music. As you make your way upstairs, you'll feel the temperature rise dramatically. That's cuz everyone is getting it down on the dance floor. It is suuuuuper packed up there with little room to move. The space is pretty small. I strategically placed myself by the fans, which helped just a little. The music was just a little all over the place. The transitions between songs weren't good and the genre would jump to slow rap, to hip-hop, r&b and some jamacian style songs. I don't mind them at all, but the playlist just didn't mesh well. I still had a fun time though. I'd come back with my friends for a good time though. It's a small place, but if you want to get your dance on, this is the spot.

Literally giving this place 3 stars just based on the menu and cool atmosphere. I went here with friends as my first outing in Atlanta and loved the chill environment. I was immediately excited about the menu with lots of farm fresh and organic options. The lamb burger, although small, was in my top 5 burgers I've ever had-and I'm a big foodie. The fish tacos were excellent-and I'm from Cali, tacos are a sacred staple. The drink menu is fun and innovative of you're into refreshing cocktails, which is much needed in the humidity, even at night! Overall food experience was great. The bar area downstairs is chill and eclectic around 10ish, and upstairs is a rowdy club on the turn up. You get the best of both worlds if you're into that sort of thing. The only reason the score isn't higher is because I had a little rude encounter with a waitress, but I was able to contact a manager who straightened everything out immediately and was super nice about the incident.
(3)D.L. C.
I was there for A3C week and at the suggestion of my good friend Dillion, I had the Tofu Tacos and holy sh*t that was way worth it. Didn't get anything else besides a delcious Dark & Stormy (also cheap). Service sucks and the clientele was a tad on the douche side that night but hey...I got it in.
(3)Andrew K.
Cool spot with a nice backyard with white XMAS lights. My friends enjoyed their pickleback shots. Haley - our server - was awesome. She preemptively split the bill with a big smile.
(4)Brandon W.
Lamb burger excellent. Customer service terrible, and seems kind of racially driven. I was looked in the face on 4 occasions and was not helped, it wasn't till I made a big deal that I got service. It was so bad that one of the other customers in the establishment stated its always like that.
(3)Robert M.
The name is confusing. As you approach this place walking from Church / Edgewood Corner Tavern, one can easily spot the word MOTHER (plus an arrow pointing downward) painted on the top / side of the building. When you get to the front entrance you see a small industrial metal sign near the door that reads "Mom's." So right off the bat there is an identity-addled confusion happening with the name of the place. I really want to love this new addition to the Edgewood Ave bar district but I think this is the beginning of yet another one of my many love / hate relationships. I love the location and especially the back yard space behind the building. This place is very popular with the 20-something hipster crowd (which can be both a good or bad thing depending on one's unique perspective; the naivete of youth is both refreshing and annoying). I love the industrial exposed brick interior and exposed electrical / climate control lines along the walls / ceilings.("Mom, I love what ya' done to the place!"). I see that this place serves food. I did not try the food; however, I love the fact that that they have Terrapin Hopsecutioner on draft. I hate the crowded lines / wait times to get a drink and to use the restrooms. Ordering drinks is somehow a very difficult ordeal. After trying to negotiate the main bar, my friend and I traipsed upstairs and we were able to order drinks from the bar upstairs. But it was not fast or easy. But then again not much in life is. I love how there are large chalkboards all over the joint advertising specials and drink / food prices; stuff is clearly marked here. I don't like being surprised or overcharged for something I ordered because the price was not listed at all or was not clearly marked. I am especially fond of the patio / picnic table area behind the place. The back area is enclosed by a fence with strings of lights decorating it. The back yard is a really nice & key addition to a bar; there's lots of room there - a great place to go with a large party. There seems to be plenty of room for parking behind the building (adjacent to / on either side of the backyard patio area), yet no parking. A large tract of land behind the building is completely fenced off (most likely for security reasons). I would like to see this place offer secure parking like you have nearby at Noni's (free) or Sound Table (not free). That would make me want to come back often. The parking situation in this bar district is awful. Since smoking is not allowed inside, the back yard also seems to be the place where smokers will need to go to indulge their habit. Although I did not try the food or any of the fancy cocktails, I do like this place a lot. If for no other reason, then for the crowd scene / ambiance and the nice backyard. I am, reluctantly, a fan.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same." Sweet Lord, if I were 15 years younger, I'd be all over this bar. In fact, 15 years ago, I pretty much was. Remember Nomenclature, you fogeys? The old MJQ? It's pretty much like that, only, well, cleaner. I don't mean "cleaner" in sort of moralistic sense, I mean literally, CLEANER. Those places back then were kind of holes. Still, they were filled with a bunch of 20 something hipsters, alternating between acting like they were the first to discover Bukowski between rounds of cheap booze and shakin' booty to the latest mashup. Only back then, we didn't call them "'mashups;" we called them remixes and the DJ had to bring heavy stacks of records and CDs and not just a single MacBook and I wore an onion on my belt because that we the fashion at the time. OK, so no, it's not 100% the same. Mother serves food. The other places, um, did not. What little of Mother's food I ate seemed ok--hummus, deviled eggs. I had no complaints; then again, since my buddies' ordered them, I didn't pay for any of it. There are some cocktails fancier than single liquor drinks like "old-fashioned's," "liquid jazz," etc. I seem to remember that if you had the gall to order something more complicated than a vodka tonic at the old places, many an eye roll would commence and you'd barely be able to live down your trucker cap. By the way, I did partake of the pickleback i.e., a hot of Tullamore & a shot of pickle juice. It was pleasing. So you kids seem to be doing better than we were back in the stone ages. Except for the dancing. I went upstairs and watched you guys bug out and, man, it was NOT. GOOD. I don't know if it was because half of us knew how to swing dance back then, but I've seen better moves on an episode of "The Walking Dead." Kids, these days. Get it together or get off my lawn. Four stars.
(4)Stone M.
Went for the soft opening, place was packed. Cant wait to check it out on a regular day, it was open bar and free food.
(4)Jon W.
I decided to get some food and drinks here and I was rather disappointed. There is nothing unique or interesting about this place. The downstairs plays a mix of early 90's alt music and background music similar to that genre. The upstairs is small, and tends to blast the music downstairs, which is ear-crushing and annoying. The black-eyed-pea hummus was the worst thing I have ever ordered. It was only a half-scoop of little ice-cream in a huge ass bowl with only 4 tiny tiny triangle slices of the "naan-pita-bread." There was also some red peppers and carrots in really long thin slices not conducive for dipping. There are only about 8-9 choices on the menu, so I would not recommend eating here. The drinks were kind of overpriced, has nobody ever heard of a pickle back shot? I know it is featured here, but you can get them at most bars.
(1)Felipe V.
Has its own character. Honestly its a tad pricey for what it is. But it's true to itself and you have to respect that. They have a few clever cocktails.
(4)Rebecca S.
Good place. Our visit was on a Wednesday, so not the busiest. Good food. Lamb burger was tasty. Kale salad and devils eggs were good too. Good is the main word. Excellent decor, colors, vibe. Great prices on the standard beer selections.
(4)Paul R.
Cool place. We went there on a Saturday night. There're picnic tables in the back if you want to chill outside, a bar with a bunch of booths on the first floor, and a sweet dance floor upstairs. Kind of crowded (there was a line to get in), but the three different atmospheres make it feel like three bars. Only complaint is the wait for a drink is a little long
(4)Marta P.
Really rad bar. Two stories and overlooks Edgewood Avenue, which allows for great people watching outside. The music is fantastic, staff friendly, and NO SMOKING! It's still fairly new so it isn't packed on the weekend, which I actually prefer because you can easily move around. Everyone seems to be friends there and it's a really great atmosphere. They have pickle back shots! I am definitely coming back to try the bar bites too, they sounded delicious. The decor is pretty minimal, but I like how the main focus is on the brick walls and candlelit atmosphere. Great addition to the neighborhood!
(4)Maura F.
Just okay. Pros - (1) Friendly staff, from the bouncers to the bartenders. (2) Nice size dance floor upstairs. I haven't tried the food, but I've heard good things. Cons - (1) So crowded on weekends! So crowded it's hard to move. (2) The music isn't great... It's loud and kind of random...
(3)Benjamin T.
Came here on a saturday night. The place was packed and cover was free which was a plus. Upstairs they have a dance floor, dj and bar. Drinks are reasonably priced but the place was so crowded that its hard to walk anywhere without spilling your drink on someone. The crowd was very diverse and the dj played a variety of music to suit everyone's needs, including old school, pop and hip hop. Ill definitely be visiting again....can't go wrong with free cover.
(5)Anthony L.
The new kid on the block may give the other spots in Edgewood a run for the money.

"You need a mother very very badly!" -- Hook (1991) Our 3rd stop of the night was Mother - with a fabulous sign out front that says MOM (like that tattoo with the heart and the arrow that you expect to see on a big behemoth of a man). So fun. The place was hoppin' for sure and it was quite the scene. We decided not to go upstairs and opted for the main floor. We worked our way to the bar (pushing past quite the crazy line for the bathroom). They have these great chalkboards with their drink specialties and prices - a nice difference from most other bars. I was pleased to see Dark and Stormy on the list (my personal fave). However, I was the driver, so it was time for me to start to sober up. After the rest of my group ordered, and bartender number one started making the drinks, I asked the 2nd girl for a large ice water stating "hey I'm the driver." She said "No. But, there is a place by the back door where you can get your own." I'm sorry, what? I just indicated that I am the DD and you refused me water. I understand I can get world's tiniest paper cup (maybe 4 ounces) myself, but I asked you for a LARGE, ICED water. And you refused. So A) there goes your tip (and I would have tipped her at least 5, if not 10 bucks at the end of the night) and B) you did not have to be bitchy about it. Maybe give me a glass with ice and then I get my own water? WOW. Anyway, we ended up going outside and found some great park benches in a grassy field with fancy Christmas lights all around a fenced in area. They even have citron candles to keep away the bugs. This is perfect when you need fresh air, or have a large group. Luckily, waitresses came outside to check on us and one of them was more than happy to bring me the biggest glass-glass of iced water. She said "of course," like in no way would they not help me by bringing a DD a large glass of water. So hurray for this waitress. I wish I could have remembered what she looked like later as we were leaving as I would have tipped her. But pretty sure we didn't see her again. But whoever you were, you rock, and dark-haired, over-indulged bartender needs to check herself and look after DD's. Mom, she needs to be grounded.
(4)Amanda D.
So pretty. Love all the wood, and the Dark and Stormys are awesome! But the upstairs. I don't understand. I came to see my friend DJ, and there's uh...no dance floor. People try to make there be one, but srsly, no. There's this bizarre area behind the DJ booth. I think I heard a couple people mention it's not staying this way, which I hope. The entire place is too claustrophobic as is, I think if they moved the booth to somewhere sensible it would open up SO much more space for dancing unless somehow it works to dance behind and that's just...odd. Oh yeah and later found vodka tonics are just $5. Sure it tastes a bit like paint thinner but for $5 who cares. It is fun to just watch out the window, especially because there's a parking lot across the street. Very entertaining. And the fact it's non-smoking is awesome, but if that's what you're looking for don't go outside at all.
(3)Ana M.
This place is sooo fun. It reminds me a little of some of the DC joints I used to hang out during college, like the adam's morgan bars (Tom tom's come to mind) or that townhouse looking place on dupont circle with the live jazz and the three+ stories... what was that called again? And this georgetown spot called Thirds... Also I just realized that O4W is like the adam's morgan of Atlanta. Does anyone else see it? Anyway, this place has character because it's this townhouse like building with exposed brick, lots of (super legit, actually historical) character and a few different ambiences to chose from. As you walk in, you can go right and upstairs to a very crowded dance floor. The music was pretty killer. I think I remember some Hip Hop but those memories are fuzzy at best. I do remember everyone just having a great time dancing- in the zone, no creepers, just dancers. If you go right, you see the bar area, which by the way makes some deliciously great cocktails and serves some late night food. From what I saw the cocktail list was not as classy as say sound table's, but certainly more elevated than church's or Noni's. Price point was also in between. I had one too many dark and stormy cocktails for $7. Past the bar you will discover a huge outdoor patio. String lights all around, some picnic tables at the bottom by the trees and lots of standing around area on the deck. Will be certainly coming back.

Cool place; typical Hipster crowd on Edgewood. Food: only had 2 tacos, the beef brisket was great & the catfish taco was just ok. They have a unique Pickle Back shot where the first shot is whiskey & chased by straight pickle juice...very weird but interesting! They have a very limited selection of beers, both bottle & on tap. I would like to see them expand with some better craft brew selections. The upstairs (on Friday night) had a decent DJ playing a variety of dance music but the bar upstairs is incredibly crowded. We were lucky that we arrived earlier in the evening (9:30) so we did not have to wait in line outside to get in. Overall, I would return because of the dancing upstairs. It's rare to find a place in these cool neighborhoods that has fun dance music w/ the option of staying downstairs for a more mellow bar scene.

I got in early to avoid the Saturday night lines. Music in my opinion sucked. Listening to more 90's songs than the newer sounds made me feel like I should've been paid to be seen in that club. The club was packed to the rim and so hot my shirt was drenched when I left. The bar was tiny and didn't serve special made drinks such as the mudslide. God knows I was peeved about that. The bathroom was disgusting. I say stay home and make your own club there before going to moms house.

I ate something here that was so delicious. Unfortunately, I was wasted, so I don't remember it. But the craving remains...

I thought Mother was A-OK but I think part of my luke-warm feelings are due to being OLD and tired.. and Mother doesn't deserve to suffer for that. We barhopped and second stop, after midnight, was Mother. Love their sign on the front - it's an outline of a traditional heart tattoo with a banner that says MOM. That is your cue that you're in the right place.. because I don't think anything actually says "Mother" on the outside... or inside maybe? We got our IDs checked outside and walked in. You can either go upstairs, which we didn't do, or you can walk around this corner to the main floor bar and bar-type tables. It's a dark place with dark wood and dark walls for the most part. The bar is lit up, but the individual tables are not - I must be showing my lame-ness now. You're probably saying, "Duh, that's what a cool bar does." Okay, okay! There are at least 2 large chalkboards with cool, special drinks like Pickle Backs and Liquid Jazz and Old Man Fashions. Prices are clearly marked which I highly appreciate. I don't like being surprised by an $8 shot that someone else made me take. Our DD was a little turned off when she asked for water (indicating she was driving our sorry, drunk asses) and was pointed to the opposite end of the bar to help herself to a sort-of water cooler. I understand the idea of having that there, but when someone asks you from the opposite end of the bar in a busy bar, Ms. Bartender, and you're not doing anything else for the moment, it'd be super nice for you to go ahead and grab that water. Alcoholic drinks are made well - or at least the one drink I had was. We stepped outside to get a little air with our drinks. Super cute patio and grassy picnic table area - 5 tables to be exact. Enclosed by a fence with strings of lights lining it.. not Christmas lights really, but something a little more classy. This is a really nice addition to a bar. There's tons of room, so this is a great place to go with a large party. There are even large citronella candles on each table. Worth mentioning, someone came by outside and asked if we were all good.. so we asked for water and she happily brought one glass.. I really feel bad now for "being old" or for not getting here til after midnight, because it's actually a neat bar. We were tired, and maybe not quite hipster enough, but what are you gonna do? You gotta love your Mother. xo

OMG you guys. Edgewood's hot new source of pickle-based shots is MOTHER. This place has everything: girls with mohawks wearing night shorts and calling things "cray," ladyboys in terrycloth headbands eating dill-spiked mayonnaise with straws, Macklemore--you know, the thing where a white guy raps over a pretty good horn section about wearing clothes you gave to Goodwill last week? (I am totally not kidding. He was there.) The passel of dudes who run this place include the two guys who run Beep Beep, a teensy and superfantastic gallery in Poncey-Highlands which I've reviewed separately. Mother is relatively spacious, with an upper floor (bar + DJ/dance space + exciting red lighting fixtures) and a lower floor (bar + booths + back deck). The design aesthetic is brick-and-timberish, with Edison bulbs and etc.--not unlike the nearby Sound Table. Although I've been there exactly once--they opened tonight--I can say that at least so far, the bar service is relatively fast despite the crush. I ordered a whiskey and got a stiff pour, made exactly as ordered, in an actual glass (extra points for classy!). For what it's worth, there seemed to be fewer people waiting for service at the upstairs bar. The crowd was pretty mixed, with a nice, friendly vibe despite the broad prevalence of questionable fashion sense. The fries were pretty tasty (DO NOT IGNORE THE DILL MAYO). The music upstairs is ironic pop and beatsy dance, and people were getting down in a completely serious and kind of awesome way. Go. You will meet fun people, and you will not smell like a pack of cigarettes at the end of the night.

The drinks! THE FOOD!! I love this place and rave about it all the time. I highly suggest the Liquid Jazz but if you leave here without taking at least one pickle back you're doing it wrong. When you've got a few pickle backs and cocktails in your system and you're getting the munchies, go for the brisket tacos. Your taste buds will thank you and your wallet won't hate you. Trust me, this place is the best.

Oooh, there's a new kid on the block. And I like her. And she doesn't smoke. Now waaaaaaaaait a minute. A non-smoking bar in O4W?! Yes, you heard me right! While the name doesn't quite roll off the tongue, I'm really digging what Mother is providing for the O4W bar scene. It's not a dive bar and it's not fancy. You can sip on a fine cocktail or do multiple pickleback shots and fall off your barstool. Everyone's welcome! The neighborhood is a bear to navigate at the moment with all of the streetcar construction, so I recommend finding a parking spot (even if you have to pay for it) and sticking with it all night. Now there are enough options on this strip to keep you entertained so there's no need to move your car anyway. While the downstairs area has a decent size bar, a few tables, and big windows to get your people watching on, the upstairs is more energetic, boasting another full bar and DJs on most nights. On my one lap around the upstairs I was less than impressed by the dancing (or lack thereof), but I've got a feeling folks will be a little more in to it as they get settled in. Despite being absolutely packed on the night I visited, the two servers I dealt with couldn't have been more lovely. Yes, lovely. At a hipster infused bar. Imagine that! Drinks were strong and I look forward to checking out the food on a future visit. Oh, and they're starting work on a patio. This is me doing my happy dance.

$2 tacos, Tecate and tequila on Tuesday. Awesome is the only word to describe it. The fried catfish taco is the best, the brisket and tofu only slightly less awesome.

Love the location and outside space in the back. The service and product, however, always leave something to be desired. Ordering drinks is somehow a very difficult ordeal. They continuously don't have basic drinks and the staff seem offended when you ask for them (e.g. an old fashioned, a manhattan, etc). I was met with an eye roll when I attempted to order a gin gimlet. The martini there was the worst I've ever tried but paid for it, leaving it full and chucked it up to the fact that they were new. A few days ago I ordered a negroni, which was undrinkable, and then had to actually explain why I shouldnt have to pay for it (I didn't drink it). Overall: the place has promise but they got to work on their product and service ASAP.

Super happy to see another fun bar open up on Edgewood. The drinks are strong, the food is great, and the atmosphere is laid back. The pricing seems a little off - some of the drinks are over priced, while some of the food seems under priced. Either way, I'll take it!

I went on karaoke night and it wasn't poppin in any sense of the word, but I had a good buzz going on so I had a fabulous time. I butchered some good tunes and the people who worked there seemed in good spirits about it and didn't hate everyone with pitch problems, which was pretty cool too. Lots of cute boys and really nice bartenders. Small selection of beer on tap, but they seemed to have a bigger emphasis on mixed drinks. Would definitely go back.

A group of gals and I went to Mother last night. We went at geriatric hour for that part of town (7:30pm). We snagged a high top table. We proceeded to order almost everything on the menu. This place is veg friendly (thank you!) I had the pimento cheese, deviled eggs, and tofu tacos. Fries, briscuit, catfish tacos, and lamb burger were also enjoyed by the group. All were delicious and really affordable. Don't expect fussy presentation, but do expect to experience the sensation of yum. Things I loved: 1) our waitress was friendly, funny, and attentive. She even separated our checks without us asking and without looking like she wanted to murder us. 5 stars for her! 2) the cocktail list is scrawled on some chalkboards and they aren't pretentious This is a welcome relief from the focus on drinks that take 15 minutes to make) 3) Did I mention the food and drinks were incredibly affordable?

The drinks were insanely watered down and the shots were definitely less than 1 1/2 oz. Outside was decent. Not interested in going back.

Left my wallet at Mother, and manager Mark was incredibly helpful in coordinating getting it back to me!! Really appreciate it!
