I've been to this place twice. The ambiance is homey, service is friendly and food is ok/good. The first time I came here I had the bruschetta & Melanzane Caprese which is sliced eggplant, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and balsamic vinegar- very good...but is it possible to mess up on those items. You basically just need fresh ingredients. We also had pinot grigio although I don't remember what kind, but whatever it was it was delicious, light and crisp. The 2nd time I came here I ordered food to go. I had the Veal Marsala which was recommended by the waitress although she never had it she said it looked good. Ha! Regardless, I gave it a try. It was ok, I finished it all but the portion was not really big. In fact I wasn't stuffed, which I usually am after I eat pasta. The sauce and mushrooms were good. The veal was tasty, the perfect amount of seasoning - but not the most tender piece of veal. Would I order it again, probably not. But I would still come here again to try the pizza.

What a poor excuse for going out to eat! Service was fair, order was haphazardly served, stuffed eggplants tasted like pickles, and veal parmigiano was slightly softer than shoe leather, yet without any flavor. Best thing I could say is that the prices for the food and wine are low, but you get what you pay for.

A little disappointed - the food wasn't very tasty - more just covered in cream instead of true Italian cooking. I don't think we would go back with so many other good options in the area.

Don't expect Marcello's to be like a chain and you'll be happy. It's a unique little joint, reminds me of a Brooklyn style pizzeria/ family style diner. * Nothing fancy here but the ingredients are fresh, high quality and dishes are prepared and served with the kind of care as if the owner and cooks are serving FAMILY. * There's pride here, the owner and servers make every effort to help you order what will make you happy. Yet they're never overbearing. To wrap it up, Marcello's is good and dependable for dining in or take-out.

I think this place deserves a lot more credit than it has been given by previous reviews. We walked into Marcello's last night not knowing what to expect. I mean we almost skipped it due to the bad reviews, but decided since it was our neighborhood pizza joint we'd give it a go. Once inside we were greeted by an Italian guy that looked like his nickname might be "Fat Tony", complete with the accent and all; I am guessing he's the owner. We were seated in a cozy booth next to the wall where our server walked up and politely took our drink and food order, she made sure we had great service the whole time we were there and that our food was to par. For an appetizer we started with the baked pita, Marcello's version of bruchetta. It was pretty damn tasty indeed. For dinner I had the Marcello's Special which was one of the finest Italian subs I've ever had with it soft bread toasted on the outside stuffed with Italian meats and melted cheese; I was drooling the entire time I was eating. The girl ordered the stuffed manicoti which was also tasty. Overall, it was a nice experience and I'll certainly go back to try some of Marcello's other menu items.

I have been going here since the mid 90's. After moving back, Marcello moved his restaurant and brought it up a few levels. I miss the basic and wonderful subs that I always got...but the new restaurant is lovely and the new menu is amazing. I love that the family runs this restaurant and they take so much pride in what they serve.

After shaky knees concert we came here. I could not recommend this place more! Growing up in Chicago I am a little partial, but when the owner greets you that is half the battle. The lasagna and ravioli are fantastic! Class act!

Good food, Good people, Sucky parking lot. After a good dinner, I drop my friend off at her car and come back to find my car booted. Not a great way to end the night. If you are going to eat here or anywhere in this shopping center, I would recommend not staying longer than an hour.

I came here before going to a wine tasting at Savi in the same plaza. I had a slice of pizza and a house Salad. The salad was fresh. I loved the warm garlic bread that the server brought to the table. But the pizza was not impressive. I asked for a side of sauce to help, but the sauce seemed a little bland to me. I had to add a dash of salt and pepper. I did however receive great service.

Stopped by on whim, wish I hadn't. Service and atmosphere were fine. However, the prices are steep and the food was subpar/blah.

We like this place, and have been dining in or calling for delivery for about eight years. Typically, we get the pizza and a salad, and usually a whole pie but every once in a while, just by the slice. Others we've dined with have ordered the ravioli and spaghetti, and my recall is they would rate it between a 3 and 4. The pizza is good, solid pizza. Knock your socks off and never dine anywhere else for pizza? Nah, but then no matter how good a 'za is, you should always practice non-monogamy. It's pizza - enjoy it all! Others have commented on the owner who is indeed an older, sometimes grumpy gentleman. That said, we've never received anything other than good service there. He typically answers the phone if you call to place an order, and he takes his time, but he's pleasant enough. Tonight when I included a house salad in my delivery order, he asked if I liked feta cheese, because if so he would send the Greek salad. I said I was fine without, and he said, 'okay, I make a house salad for you!'. They are currently located next to Region's in the little shopping plaza near Chastain on Roswell Rd, and are moving across the parking lot into a bigger storefront. Like I said, this isn't the only pizza place we go to, but it's definitely on the rotation, and one we've gone back to time and time again.

This place sucks - the owner is a complete d-bag. Think of a jaded old man who wants nothing more than to run his business in to the ground while his poor kids try to keep it afloat. Case in point - we purchsed a half off depot certificate (or one of the derivations) and went in to use it. They charged me tax on the full value of the pizzas, took off the certificate and then charged tax again on the reduced amount! I pointed it out to the younger guy working and he said he knows but the old man who owns the place makes him do it. I told him that is downright fraudulent since they can't collect sales tax from us and bag it as profit. He refused to take it off. Pizza was ok so they get 2 stars but I will never dine here again.

Today for lunch we decided to try Marcello's Pizza. I was a bit skeptical since I read most of the reviews and figured the place wasn't all that. The only problem is, my friend and I have eaten at almost every place in the plaza. The restaurant is pretty small. No problem. It's not the place to go if you have more than 4 people in your group. The seating is kind of tight. Luckily, my friend and I are pretty average sized girly frames, or else we wouldn't have been able to sit in the darn booth. The prices are pretty steep for a slice of pizza. Actually, it's pretty expensive for everything. My friend and I split a 10" pie with 2 toppings. I have to admit, the pizza wasn't bad at all. We both enjoyed it. It cost us $8.50 + tax and we split the bill down the middle. Nice meal with tip, less than $12 total. Can't beat that right? I don't even want to mention the Health Inspector's Report taped to the front glass door. Just be sure to check the ratings before you go if you are a germaphobe.

Excellent chef salad! I would rename it as an "antipasto salad" fresh salad veggies piled with tasty italian meats, cheeses, and peppers. And an amazing toasty Italian sub. I shared the Marcellos Special with a friend. This was just what I was in the mood for. The meats were slightly grilled, the cheese was melty, and the bread was soft and toasted just right. Didnt try the pizza yet. Will give it a chance next time to see if its great or as terrible as the other reviewers say... I personally liked the kitschy decor. the booths are a little small, but comfy cozy for two. Ill be back!

Food was fine and service was good but it is way overpriced for what you get. You can get better Italian for your money elsewhere.

Started out lunch trying to go to another place, and somehow ended up at Marcello's. I'm a huge fan of pizza, and I figured we might as well try this because it could be one of those undiscovered gems. Well this potential diamond was all rough! We had a seat in a booth, and were there for a few minutes before being acknowledged. Then, another couple came in, and they were waited on before us. When we did get waited on the server seemed very shy and introverted, and I got the impression that she was related to the owner and that's how she got her job. We ordered a medium cheese pizza because I refuse to judge a pizza place by a reheated lunch slice. The bottom of the crust had a burned taste, and the sauce was mediocre at best. At one point I went to the restroom, which was one of those restrooms where you're deathly afraid to touch anything. On the way back to the table I saw the health inspection grade. A 76. That's probably the lowest I've ever seen, and it translated directly to how comfortable I felt in the restaurant. Great location, mediocre food, and poor service. So much potential, but it falls way short. Save your money because there are far better places to grab a slice in Buckhead.

Hmmm...I had mixed feelings before coming to this place and mixed feelings upon leaving this place. The reviews i read before coming were a mix of horrible and terriffic..but my overall expectation was that I probably wouldn't be coming back here. So here's the skinny: this place IS skinny. Seriously if you're thinking of taking an overweight date here that you never want to see again or totally humiliate...bring them here and watch with their faces flush with shame as they are forced to turn sideways all the way through the restaurant. For a pizza place it's not cheap which is a major turn off...sandwiches for 9 dollars? A slice of pizza for 4.95 with 1 topping?? (that was for meatball, shrimp or chicken- which I guess are considered premium toppings but still... I will admit that the a slice of cheese is a reasonable 2.95 but that's not on this carnivores diet) So yes I had a frown on my face when I looked at the menu. The friendly server turned things around however when we asked about specials. She enticed us with a pizza that she said would have about 8 slices, 2 toppings and cost only 8.50. Things went back down hill when we asked could we have different toppings on our respective sides. NO. She started talking about extra charges and we were back to square 1. Luckily... neither one of us are picky eaters so we went with spinach all over and meatball on half. When I saw the plate come out of the kitchen I all I remember is hissing "that better not be our food." This pizza was small...it had 8 slices alright but....hmph. Anyway, the pizza was pretty good. I def wasn't a huge fan of the crust but it was hot and really cheesy, and I loved the spinach -- whole leaves that were fresh and soft instead of minced up garlicky clumps sprinkled around. The meatballs were excellent and they didn't skimp on those!! A teeny tiny bit dry but extra flavorful and plump and none of that weird almost liverish taste meatballs sometimes have which isn't a bad thing but these aren't that kind. The service was good, the waitress was friendly and efficient-the owner teased us about our picture taking--it seemed like a nice family place. Speaking of families I did notice that there seemed to be a lot of patrons drinking at lunch but it doesn't have a bar like feeling at all and I would feel comfortable bringing kids here, although better on the patio where it's not so cramped. I did notice high chairs but I really don't know how they could be used given the space constraints. I was feeling pretty good about this place when as we walked out the door I saw the health department sign posted on the front. That seemed weird-it's not usually plastered to the entrance door and the score was pretty low. I know my favorite taco dive joint has them beat by like 20 points...and that place def doesn't give off a fresh clean feeling so.....who knows. I'm not really sure what all those surveys take into consideration and have worked in many restaurants kitchens so I'm not squeamish-basically the score didn't have that much of an impact on me, I guess...but still. I will go back here. It's super close to the job and I want to like it. A price reduction and maybe some pest control or whatever and it might be a 4 star joint. Oh, and be prepared to circle. The parking lot in this shopping center is a nightmare.

Yelp got this one right. Crust tasted stale, sauce was tasteless and closer to burgundy than red. The dried oregano didn't help. Cheese had almost right bite but an odd taste. Fellini's up the street might be better if your are on Roswell Road.

I ordered a large pizza for lunch expecting to have leftovers for dinner, but after tasting it, I left it on the counter for my co-workers to experience. It was obviously a pre-cooked cheese pizza with my toppings added and then warmed over. I know other pizza shops do this, and usually the result is good, but not today. It was overcooked and the dough was chewy. I won't be back.

WHY do I subject myself? Yelp makes you think as you drive by places no man should step into..."hmmm, I have to try that". Marcellos has been around for a while. It's a walk from my job so unfortunately I've been there about 4 times when I am in a rush for lunch, which is about 4 times too many. I've said it before but this time I mean it: NEVER AGAIN! As you walk in and look above you, notice the electric train on the hanging ceiling track going round and round, this is the money train that steals your hard earned money at $3 a slice (with no toppings)...chug chug chugging along to the Marcello bank. Don't you love places that sprinkle new mozzarella on top of your slice before reheating it to try to cover up the inferior old stank cheese below it? The bottom of this slice is mush, maybe he needs to turn his pizza ovens on 'self cleaning mode' to find some char. My prior 2 star rating was generous, Marcellos truly deserves my one star 'anchovies galore' rating for serving up inadequate pies at inadequate Buckhead prices....from the NY Pizza Guy.

It's 9 pm on a Sunday night in Buckhead, and I haven't had dinner. I walk down the block from my hotel to Marcello's and pop my head in. "Are you open?" Sure. 2 slices to go please. $6.37? Ouch. Here you go. Look in the box and there's only 1 slice. Oops. Chat with the pizza guy while I wait. "Oh you can get cheaper pizza, maybe Dominos or Poppa Johns." Well, either one would be just as good. What I got was cheese slapped on top of soft bread with some sauce. I wouldn't call it pizza. Skip Marcello's. It's not cheap and it's not good. It will keep you from starving, but that's about it.

I've eaten @ Marcello's a few times. Not overly impressed by the food, but it's not the worst either. Pizza is ok but there's better. I got a steak sub once and the smell & taste of the meat was off. Like it wasn't "fresh". I didn't get sick or anything, but you can tell when meat just isn't right. The employees are nice though, and service was good each time.

We came to eat here late in the evening around 9PM, so the restaurant was rather quiet. That was fantastic for us because the service was excellent, and we did not feel rushed to leave. The food was excellent; I had "Mama's Lasagna" which comes with a side salad (also great). They bring out bread with the entrees which tasted unique yet delicious. The cheese pizza on the kids menu is a gracious portion; I think 8" to be exact. Plus, Tuesdays are kids eat free! Ambience is lovely, extensive wine list, and tasty homemade food. Definitely plan on returning here in the future!

They had one server on staff during the lunch rush. It took a very long time to place our orders. I got the chicken parm panini and soup special. I had to eat my soup with a fork....that was interesting. We asked for spoons a few times and eventually got them after having already drank my soup down from the bowl. The "chicken parm" panini came out and it was just grilled chicken on bread with no cheese. Thinking there was just a misunderstanding, I asked for the chicken parm sandwich again and not a grilled chicken sandwich. They brought the same thing back out 2 minutes later but with melted cheese on top of the chicken... So the panini on the menu that is called chicken parm is in fact not chicken parm at all...it's just a grilled chicken sandwich with cheese. The pizza was decent. The server was nice but obviously had way too many tables to cover alone.

Love the new place! & they brought their train- that was always my favorite part of their old restaurant :) The new local is more Italian restaurant then old New York deli, which is fine, though I will miss the subs very much. I ran over (brisk walk if you want to be entirely correct) on my lunch break (4pm) from my office to grab a quick bite. I was welcomed by a warm hello & yummy smells of the kitchen being prepped for dinner. I ordered 2 slices of cheese pizza (adventurous I know). I was a little disheartened to see the mozzarella sprinkled on top when the slices were heated up, but that's to be expected a solid hour & a half after the lunch rush even finished. Overall a good slice- they could use more spices- garlic, oregano & salt but again, these were just heated up. I'll be back to get a fresh pie for my team soon!

We came in for a quick lunch with our little boy on a Sunday. The waitress was slammed, we had to wait quite awhile for everything. I felt bad for her, but she wasn't handling it well. Pizza was ok, but my pasta dish was swimming in tomato water and had no salt. The sausage had very little flavor as well. We ordered a half-veggie and half cheese pizza to go for family at home, but they charged me for an entire specialty pizza (didn't mention that when I ordered). Waitress said that they aren't allowed to charge for half. Just a few bucks, but this combined with the wait and the "meh" food means we won't come back.

Our fourth visit, 1 in the old spot across the parking lot, 1 in the space w/same owners but different name, and 2 in the current Marcellos setup. Pizza is better in the new place than it was in the old, and it wasn't bad across the parking lot. The Cheese may be what sets their pie apart from other non-chain establishments. They're not heavy on sauce, but not quite to thin on it like every other chain around Buckhead. Meat toppings are pretty generous and tasty, as all ingredients are clearly fresh, but we were a little disappointed in only a handful of Jalapenos for $ 2.50 or so. Pizza ingredients are fast, fresh, and the pie has a light and flavorful taste. We won't come back every time we are looking for pizza, but probably a couple times a year, a handful max.

So happy to have Mama and Marcello back!!! The format is changed, much more of a nice sit down restaurant than a cafe. The new place looks great on the inside and has a nice patio for al fresco dining. I ordered Mama's lasagne, which is now lasagna bolognese rather than sausage lasagna. The lasagna is fabulous. The bruschetta was really good but so wet that the bread fell apart. My only complaint would be the Arribiata Bolognese was not spicy and the penne was not al dente.

So since my initial review, this place has gotten a HUGE facelift and upgrade. It went from a cozy hole-in-the-wall pizza joint to a very large, hoity-toity italian restaurant. I've also visited 2 or 3 times since my initial review. Only because it is a block from my office and I get tired of Zoes and can't afford Flip. I really want to like this place but it is consistently...meh...I haven't tried their pasta dinners but have had the pizza and a chicken parm sandwich there. The pizza is the same as my original post. Meh. The sandwich was made using grilled chicken (OK, I am open to that); however, if you are going to use grilled chicken and not lightly fried cutlets, it needs to be flavorful. Or at least, hide the fact that it is grilled chicken with tasty sauce. I can swear their sauce is the cheap spaghetti sauce you buy at the grocery store. The bread and cheese were quality. But still so disappointing. The staff is always friendly though.

Had dinner at Marcellos last night. The garlic bread was very uninspired. The pizza was only okay. The crust tasted like something you would get on a frozen pizza. The store is interesting, but they need to do more with the pizzas and garlic bread. Probably won't go back.

Antwanika S.
The flavors on the pizza were wonderful but the crust was soggy and not crispy. Not sure if it's a fluke or not but I like a crispy not soft crust. I still enjoyed the pizza though because of the flavor. Service as great, friendly and attentive. I will visit again to see if I get a better slice.

This will definitely be my new neighborhood spot. Great music playing, nice things to look at on the walls, pizza and drink selection were awesome. We got a couple of slices of different flavors along with a bottle of wine. I like the laid back casual atmosphere.

I am not a big Italian fan, but I do get pressured by my co-workers into going here sometimes. I went again today for lunch. My salad was good. And oh the coke was good too. That's it! AND i spent $20 on something I didn't like. If you want a quick slice of pie.....then this place is good. But that's about it for lunch. Never been for dinner.

I think this is some of the best pizza in Atlanta, actually, second only to Mellow Mushroom. I think this is the closest we come to good NY-style pie in Atlanta. The crust has a nice bite and the oregano level is perfect. The decor is done on a budget and kitschy, which is kind of fun--especially when they turn on the ceiling-mounted choo-choo. If you've read Drew's review, you'll see what he means, but you'd be hard pressed to find a Chianti bottle--it isn't really that over the top. Red-checkered tablecloths, yes, but that's how these neighborhood pizza joints decorate. This isn't high Tuscan cuisine by any stretch, of course, but really great everyday Italian pizza joint fare. I think the baked pasta dishes are pretty tasty and more than serviceable. The owner, Marcello, is a cool guy and he generally keeps a good group of kindhearted people working around him. The food is a good value, so tip them well.

A little too "we need red and white checkered table cloths and empty chianti bottles with candles melting over them to be Italian" for my taste. So many places don't realize that it is possible to serve Italian food without having to use very cliche Italian restaurant decoration in the book... I prefer the subs to the pizza here. The pizza is a bit plain jane, but it's hard to find a good oven baked sub that's not from a chain. The chicken parm is also another solid item on the menu.

So used to travel to Atlanta for business regularly for years and a co-worker told me about Marcello's. Trip after trip, I found myself going there for lunch ordering the same thing: 2 slices or pepperoni and garden salad (with Italian dressing) and a Diet Coke. Let me tell ya folks, you can't go wrong. The pizza crust is crisp, the sauce tangy and the Diet Coke is bubblin...I no longer have to visit Atlanta and I sure do miss Marcellos.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I love this place and this family. Make sure you come in and check out the new ambiance.

Atmosphere is delightful neighborhood joint. The staff is familial and helpful. Food was delicious. We had staples--spaghetti bolognese and pizza florentine--and enjoyed both. Price is just right!

I love the hometown feel and family atmosphere. Very kid friendly and pretty good food at reasonable prices. Bring the whole posse!

Good, fresh pizza. Reasonable price and quantity for the area. Good service.

The owner is Italian for gods sake!! Doesn't he know his pizza sucks!?
(1)J. D.
I don't know what people are butt hurting about. This place is great. Came for lunch, got two salami, garlic and mushroom slices. The pizza tastes great, and the service was courteous. I'll be coming back.
(4)Melissa K.
(4)Whitney C.

(2)A.J. C.
(2)Yasmine B.
The restaurant was slow for lunch but my service was fast and friendly. Great drinks and food. I love the mozzarella sticks and Greek plate. I will Definitely be back
(4)Brian R.

I live close by. I've tried several pizzas places in the area. This one is one of my favorites.

My kids and I love going there. Eggplant is amazing!

(2)Bob K.
Had dinner at Marcellos last night. The garlic bread was very uninspired. The pizza was only okay. The crust tasted like something you would get on a frozen pizza. The store is interesting, but they need to do more with the pizzas and garlic bread. Probably won't go back.
(2)Antwanika S.
(3)Tim M.
This will definitely be my new neighborhood spot. Great music playing, nice things to look at on the walls, pizza and drink selection were awesome. We got a couple of slices of different flavors along with a bottle of wine. I like the laid back casual atmosphere.
(4)Aanal P.
(2)Michael B.
(4)Vincent V.
The chicken parm is also another solid item on the menu.

i like my reviews to be detailed and informatiive. with that: BARF! get the picture?

So used to travel to Atlanta for business regularly for years and a co-worker told me about Marcello's. Trip after trip, I found myself going there for lunch ordering the same thing: 2 slices or pepperoni and garden salad (with Italian dressing) and a Diet Coke. Let me tell ya folks, you can't go wrong. The pizza crust is crisp, the sauce tangy and the Diet Coke is bubblin...I no longer have to visit Atlanta and I sure do miss Marcellos.
