The only way this would post, was to give it a star. ZERO STAR is what I would have preferred. I have never EVER been so incredibly displeased with a restaurant in my life. We were in town for a concert the night before. My girls and I went in for lunch around 1:45 in the afternoon. There was not 1 table in the entire place. (That should have been my first clue.) After being seated, by our waitress, it took her 5 minutes to return to table. She had chips and salsa, pico, and salsa verde in hand. She then took our drink order. The chips CANNOT BE house made. They arrived cold (bc they weren't freshly made/held chips.) Seems to me, that they are bought from their purveyor already made. Enough about the chips. Salsa was terribly acidic and tangy tasting. (This should have been my 2nd clue) After ordering, 2 Taco Salads, one (1) shrimp taco, and a $14 steak burrito, it took 25 minutes to get our food. As soon as she put the shrimp taco down, I knew it was going to be bad. It wasn't bad, it was absolutely disgusting and inedible. It was covered with what looked like marinated red bell pepper, and some kind of nasty sauce. It was advertised, I believe, with some sort of marinated slaw. If that was slaw, I really need my taste buds checked. Did I mention there were 3 tiny shrimp enveloped in this sludge? I'm going to try and wrap this up. My $14 steak burrito, had the nastiest flank steak, I guess, with GREEN PEAS and corn! Peas in a BURRITO? The girls ate about 5 bites of theirs as well. I put my plates to the side immediately, after taking a bite or two of that burrito. Waitress comes over and asks if everything is ok. I said, no, it wasn't good. We own a restaurant, as well, and I would want to know if someone isn't pleased. She could care less and promptly brought a bill over for $51.00. If you like absolutely overpriced food, terrible customer service, and inedible food, this is your place. Not that they care, but I will NEVER go back. Should have listened to my niece and gone to Verde.

We were in the neighborhood and trying to decide where to eat so we grabbed a quick bite here at around 5 pm on a Saturday. Decided to get the $30 2 person skirt steak special, not expecting too much. What comes out is: 2 bowls of beans, bacon, something soup. Tortillas in a sombrero container (super adorable). Plate of guacamole. A foot-long steaming plate with our 2 pounds of steak, jalapeno pepper wrapped in bacon, and half an onion. This is all in addition to the chips and salsa already on the table. I have no idea if this was "authentic" Mexican food but do I really care, in the face of 2 pounds of skirt steak? I don't think I need to say anymore. (Except that it was delicious)

I went lunch time and ordered steak burrito from lunch special menu ($8). Chips and salsa are served once seated. I didn't have to wait long for food which came out within ten minutes. My god, it's huge and delicious! Almost a foot long. It was yummy. I thought I wouldn't be able to finish all but I actually did. Nice atmosphere. Very dead though. I think it's been open for few months.

La Costilla Grill "is" ... "All about that beef, 'bout that beef, no veggies. It's all about that beef, 'bout that beef, no veggies..." (you get the idea.) But, uhm, of course there are veggies. They have salads and stuff but really do you really want another salad when they specialize in grilling up some lovely beef? The interior of LCG is really up-to-date with high ceilings, polished floors and great, yet subdued walls with a few large tvs. My party of two were seated promptly and were served chips and a trio of salsas. As other yelpers have mentioned the salsas all have their own distinctive flavor and are very good. The chips were (oddly) not that great (like they were not fresh or something, totally off) but who needs those carbs anyway, right? Thats not even worth knocking a star off. Though the much-yelped about burritos seemed tempting, we decided to try the "Regina Grill" platter for two. There are a few variations of these platters and they serve various numbers of folks. You are served a large sizzling platter of various cuts of beef, all sliced and ready for you to put on the warm corn tortillas they provide or to just munch on down. The beef was all around mouth-watering. Included on the platter was a large grilled onion and a bacon-wrapped hot dog (that is called a salchicha nortena, "I think" and was a tasty treat.) You are served a side guacamole and a side of their charro beans which is nice change from the typical old refried beans. LCG is just north of the Clairmont intersection on Buford highway in the shopping center with the Burger King out by the road and Aldi in the back.

I'm from Mexico, and I cook for a living. I can tell you one thing about this restaurant ... is great. Food is fresh and well seasoned. It reminds me of the food a use to eat in Mexico. I live in Buckhead and is far from me. But sure I'll be back soon. We had the Guacamole, skirt steak, ceviche all was delicioso !

I ate here recently for a friend's birthday and had a great time with my friends, but I cannot give this place any stars due to the robbery that goes on here. I'll start with the good part first. Food: 6/10 Starting, There is the standard chips and salsa. It came with 3 types. These were average, not the best chips and the salsas were alright. I ordered 3 tacos off the menu: chicken, steak, and pork. Each of the meats were great, my favorite turned out to be the pork. The meats are well cooked and topped with guacamole, wonderful. The tortillas were corn but were stale around the edges. I had to completely tear off the edges or else I could not chew it from how hard it was. Service: 0/10 The service here is god awful, it was top 3 in worst service I have ever experienced and I have seen some bad waitresses. Just an overall lack of attentiveness or even care about her quality of service. While the restaurant had other patrons, it was only up to 50% capacity. The food took forever to come out and after giving our credit cards, we definitely had to wait an extra 20 minutes for them to come back. To top it off, she only gave us 1 pen for 8 people. The Robbery: Taco's are $2.95 each. They have a "deal" where you can get 3 tacos and a charro beans bowl for $9.99. As I am not a big fan of beans but enjoy tasting different tacos, I ordered just 3 tacos. Two of my friends did the same. When the food came out, she gave each of us a bowl of charro beans. I told her, "Excuse me, but I believe this is for the combo. I only wanted the 3 tacos." She absolutely lied to me saying, "Oh, it's okay don't worry. The price is the same for 3 tacos and the combo. The charro beans are free." This is where this establishment knowingly steals your money. While it only is one dollar, I cannot allow such a farce to continue. To the Management: - Don't rob people by subtly adding on the combo for 3 tacos. The charro beans are not a wanted addition, I would rather have an extra taco. - The food here is good enough to want to come back, but the service is terrible. Our server, Nancy Gonzalez, was the worst service provider. Conclusion: This place has good food, but the fact that they support that "combo" deal is immoral. The waitress had slow inattentive service.

La Costilla Grill is a Mexican grill and steakhouse that opened early 2013 in the Crossroads Village shopping center near the corner of Buford Highway and Clairmont Road. This is the same shopping center that houses Havana Restaurant and Mariscos La Riviera Nayarit, next to Aldi. If you're looking for hearty, affordable steaks, this is the place for you. La Costilla sells T-bones, rib eyes, outside skirt steak, and costilla (beef short ribs), all sized at approximately 14 ounces, for only $14.95 each. It's a great value. The restaurant also doubles as a sports bar. There are several large flat panel displays around the bar as well as an HD projection screen which faces the entire dining room. UFC fight viewing parties are held here. The restaurant is new, spacious, and clean. The atmosphere is casual. Manager Ricardo and server Diana are friendly. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. It's meat-oriented. Aside from the aforementioned steaks, other menu specialties include chicken wings, BBQ ribs, and alambre (grilled beef topped with bacon and various vegetables). There's a limited selection of tacos (steak, pork, chicken), flautas (taquitos or rolled tacos), and sandwiches. There are lunch specials and everything is reasonably priced. For example, there's an $8.99 taco special at lunch which includes three tacos and frijoles charros (cowboy beans or Mexican bean stew). On Saturday and Sunday, they offer $9.95 menudo soup made with beef tripe (stomach). There are five different types of salsa and they are, for the most part, legitimately spicy. The pico de gallo contains freshly chopped jalapeno. It brings the heat. The dark red-brown mole sauces have an exceptionally smoky flavor. One of the green salsas is served in a coarsely textured stone pestel. It's probably my favorite of the salsas, packed with plenty of finely minced coriander. Items I've tried include: Chicken wings - BBQ flavor Tacos - outside skirt steak, chicken Burrito - steak, *not on the menu* Costilla - beef short ribs Frijoles charros - Mexican pinto bean stew Portion sizes are generous, particularly with the steaks and burritos. The burritos ($9.99 each) are absolutely mammoth. They put Moe's/Chipotle's Mission-style burritos to shame. Good luck finishing a burrito in one sitting (+ chips and salsa). I roughly estimate La Costilla's burrito to be at least a foot long and upwards of four inches wide and 2.5 to 3 inches tall. It's packed with the same outside skirt steak used in the tacos along with rice, beans, chopped red and green bell pepper, and it's topped with a load of melted white cheese. Heavy, filling stuff. I'm not sure why the burritos aren't on the menu. If you want one, just ask. The BBQ wings are OK. They are slathered in a somewhat thick BBQ sauce and are messy to eat. The wings aren't the meatiest and a little crispy. The sauce is overpowering. The tacos are good. They are served simple in single-layer corn tortillas with meat and a bit of guacamole. I like the skirt steak. They give you an adequate amount of meat and it's got good flavor. The chicken isn't bad either. The costilla is where it's at. If you've ever had Korean galbi, costilla is the same thing: beef short ribs. At La Costilla, three strips of short ribs come with each order. The cuts are thicker than the Korean version. There's a whole lot more meat. It's also a little bit tougher, but still quite good, especially for the price. The short ribs are served still popping and sizzling on a cast iron skillet. Watch out because it's hot. Not only do you get ribs, but the meat is accompanied with more meat: a bacon-wrapped jalapeno and a melted cheese-covered split sausage. Amazing. Oh, and half an onion, a bowl of frijoles charros, a plate of guac, and fresh tortillas too. It is *a lot* of food. Come hungry. The short ribs taste great and aren't overly greasy. The bacon-wrapped jalapeno is, not surprisingly, spicy. The bacon, fatty. The sausage is salty. I like the frijoles charros. The stew comes with plenty of pinto beans and bits of sausage and ham. It's meaty, tasty, and hits the spot. In general, I'd steer towards the steaks or ribs at La Costilla because that is the specialty. The food can take a while to come out from the kitchen. Other than that, service is fine. Jars of water are placed at the table for immediate self-serve refills. The space works well for groups.

Clean. Great food. Fast. Friendly. Burrito Regio (steak burrito) was the bomb-diggity. That's the big white burrito pic others posted. Mmmmmmmm!!! Enough queso on it to dip your chips in too.

La Costilla is a relatively new - and very welcome addition to the BuHi dining scene. Kudos to Daniel B. for placing the spotlight on this hidden gem with his latest UYE. First off, the food is delicious - I'm thrilled to have a new Mexican restaurant to add to the rotation, especially one that's a bit closer to home. La Costilla is essentially a steakhouse, with the menu's main focus being meaty dishes such as short rib, skirt steak, baby back ribs, etc. However, the menu does feature several typical Mexican specialties such as flautas, queso fundido, tacos, beans, and burritos (which are not yet on the menu - more on that later!). There are even hot wings and fries on the menu, talk about variety! The restaurant also houses a full bar (with bar seating) that features a fairly comprehensive list of assorted beer and wine, there were also a few cocktails options listed on the menu, including a house sangria! For our meal, they started us off with complimentary chips and five different types of salsa, unfortunately [for me] they were all pretty spicy with the exception of the green salsa, which I really did enjoy, it was without a doubt the best salsa verde I've had yet. I chose their chicken flautas for my entree ($7.99), and it was very generous serving; they were set atop a lettuce and tomato salad, and the flautas themselves were topped with queso, guacamole, and queso fresco. Again - the best flautas I've had yet. The tortillas were perfectly crispy, the chicken was nicely flavored, and the combination of the queso and guac just brought it to a whole other level. It's been two days since I've had them, and I've been craving these flautas ever since. The boyfriend took a bit more time perusing the menu, he wanted a burrito but it wasn't listed on the menu; when he asked our server, she said that there were burritos available ($9.99; steak or chicken) - they just weren't listed on the menu. She did preface the order by saying that were "very grande". That was an understatement: It is hands down the biggest burrito I've ever seen and ever will see. It was delicious though: It's stuffed with steak, mushrooms, rice, beans, salchicha (basically, a hot dog), and smothered in queso. Not necessarily healthy by an means, but very tasty and filling. I also tried some of the short rib, which at approximately $15 for the entree is an excellent deal - especially for the quantity and quality. The short rib was cooked to medium rare, and it was near perfect. I know what I'm having on the next visit! The service was great, our server and the manager were very sweet and attentive. The food did take a while to come out, but it was a slightly larger than average group and they did have all the entrees come out together.

I love Mondays because its our only day off. The wifey and I have been wanting to try this place but we either get to the area too early or we end up eating Asian food. We decided to finally try it out today since we didn't have a lot of errands to run. We were the 1st ones in the joint She got the 2 tacos lunch special and picked tacos al pastor and their carne asada tacos. I got their shortribs. Three Good thick pieces of short ribs perfectly seasoned and grilled, roasted onion, roasted and stuffed jalapeño wrapped with bacon , grilled Mexican hotdog with melted white cheese, side of hand made corn tortillas, and a bowl of bean soup. All the food was delicious. The meats were seasoned well and were so flavorful. We'll definitely be back. It's worth a try. Also if they bring out just one type of salsa ask for the 4 favor its complimentary Only reason they did not get 5 stars was because food took alittle long and service was not on point. Decor 6 Atmosphere 6 Service 6 Food 8 Price 8 Would I come back. yes

What a Buford highway beauty. A genuinely delicious and solid find, so happy my BF recommended this place. We were doing our usual routine find-a-quicky-lunch before work spot and I was craving guacamole and I got more than I expected. The bar is off to the right and has an impressive selection..I wish I could've had a cold tecate or margarita (or two) with my lunch but alas... The staff is all so sweet and the atmosphere is casual and vibrant. Now the food. OH MY GOD THE FOOD. It's ridiculously cheap, extremely fresh, high quality meats, kickass cheese dip with pickled japs. I ordered the 3 taco lunch special with 1 chicken and two steak topped with guacamole. They literally have nothing but tortilla and tasty grilled meat. I'm glad it wasn't overstuffed with fillers and just stuck to tasty goodness. The bf got the flautas which were pork filled, crispy and perfect. I didn't want to stop eating! Our waitress brought me a bowl of what could be the best bean soup I've ever had in my entire life. I don't know how to describe it to you. It was salty and brothy and just heaven. Ay dios mio

Best steak tacos!!! Also loved the shrimp & fish tacos too! Perfect lunch. The service was excellent... But they were not busy. The side of beans was interesting. More like bean soup- but very tasty. The salsas & chips were tasty. Nice authentic Mexican restaurant!

The service was very friendly. I went for a birthday lunch with two of my friends. When they brought out the cake, they even played a birthday song over the surround sound. Pros: Our drink and guacamole orders got free refills (I think). My friend really liked his two steak and two seafood tacos. The chips came with four different salsas with varying degrees of heat. Cons: We were only one of 2-3 parties for Sunday lunch, but our food seemed to take a long time for such few tables. The 29.99 skirt steak, which comes with a large pan of meat, tortillas, bacon wrapped jalapeño, half an onion, and cheese covered sausage, for 2 was just OK for me and my friend. The tortillas seem homemade but not to our taste. The meat seemed a little off. Perhaps we came at an off time when the meat wasn't flavored fully or the meats were getting old.

Wow! So impressed. I went here for the first time last week and couldn't wait to go back so I went again today. I've only eaten their tacos but they are deserving of a 10 out of 10 (chicken, beef and pork). They bring multiple salsas to the table. The service is very nice and friendly. Our waitress today was very proud of the restaurant and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our meal. The only thing I do not like is how they serve their rice and beans. The are served in lightly friend tortillas. They are hard enough to hold their shape and food but too soft that you can not break apart and eat like a chip. I hate wasting food but I really don't know what to do with them. Update: The last few times I have been there they have been very accommodating and have replaced my rice and beans with a side salad. No wasted food. :)

Excellent food and atmosphere. I fully recommend the burritos, tacos and frozen margaritas, and the steak looked amazing. This may be my new favorite Mexican joint in Atlanta. also, two mariachi bands showed up while we were there! Staff is excellent, too.

I craved for some Mexican foods the other day and of course I turn to my trusty yelp app to find a good restaurant to try and found this place. This restaurant is only 10 minutes away from my apartment so its very convenient. First of all, I originally wanted to give this place two stars because I have had better Mexican foods. I gave this place an extra star because the service was really good. The waitress that wait on us was so nice and knowledgeable that I was left feeling happy even if my taste buds weren't. I ordered the costilla for one with the beef skirt steak cooked at medium and the bean soup. I also ordered a shrimp taco and one fish taco. The Costillo presentation wise was mouth watering. A good amount of steaks and sausage with cheese on top and my favorite, the jalapeno wrapped in bacon stuffed with cream cheese. The steaks was a little too cooked for medium, and it was salty but not bad. The shrimp and fish soft taco was really really salty. I couldn't take more than two bites of it. And the waitress suggested the bean soup instead of the rice and my companion enjoyed it. I liked the bits of bacon in the soup. Overall, food was pretty salty but service was good. I might come back and try something else on the menu since they seem like they have a big menu. :)

Ate here a week ago. Thank God I wasn't expecting much because I don't know how anyone can mess up a quesadilla!!!! They DID!!! It was boggy, visually unappealing; not sure if they used the right tortilla. It was just a disappointment. I am still puzzled... How can a quesadilla be bad... Their fries were barely cooked.. tasteless. The only edible product was the shrimp and steak tacos and at that, it was 2/5. I ordered take out so I cannot say anything about the service and the ambience. Uhmm I thought I had found a place I could be a regular but I will NOT be back!!!

Piles and piles of meat, ¡olè! Las Costilla Grill has LOTS of meat, grilled up Mexican style, with grilled onions and peppers and such. With tortillas. I've had dinner here a few times and like it because it is close to home, the staff is nice, and they have a few beers on tap (including some Mexican beers like Modelo Negro which I like). Last time I went I ordered a draft Modelo, decided to have a "large" one and about fell off my chair when they brought me what must be a Big Gulp sized-brew. Ay caramba! If you don't feel like a giant pile of beef, they also have tacos on the menu. So there's that.

What a pleasant surprise this place was. I am new to this area so used my Scout Mob to find a restaurant. The deal for this restaurant was 50% up to $20. I must say it was a great deal and the place was so good that we will come back and pay full price. What we ordered was the Chorizo con queso and the Skirt steak for 2. Both dishes were delicious..Meat is slice already and cooked perfectly. The waitress did not ask us how we wanted it cooked but only realized it after she left us. But it ended up being cook perfectly. It comes with some kind of bean soup with pork in it. It also comes with fresh tortillas. My mouth is watering just thinking about the skirt steak My husband ordered a margarita and was pleased with it. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the service was slow. The waitress took a very long time to take our order and she never checked on us. I did order an appetizer, but they only brought me the entrée. It was not until the manager came around and asked us how was everything, that we told him we did not get our appetizer. Mind you we were already 1/2 way done with the Entrée..But I still really wanted that Queso. Anyway the waitress came back telling me I did not order the Queso when I know I did and my husband heard me too. And she gave me that accusing look that I am wrong. Hmmm not so great service I have to say. Anyway the manager was very nice and apologized. He gave us extra tortillas which was nice. I'm forgiving on service and will go back! *****8/12/2014 UPDATE So we went to this place again. Good service lacking again. The server was really nice and friendly. But still it took very long to get our drinks. We ordered Queso dip as an appetizer and they forgot that. We ended up getting our Entrees and I mentioned to the manager that we never received our queso dip. I told them to cancel the order since the entrees were already here, but they gave us the queso anyway for free. Food was still very good. I have to mention that I really like their chips and salsa which are free. I have been going to many Mexican restaurants lately and in my opinion this place has one of the better chips and salsa

All I have to say is Nom, Nom, Nom. We happened on this place on Friday and we the only ones in the entire restaurant. Their neighbors, Mariscos was slammed. Figurd "what the hay" and toted our two kids inside. The salsas and food are absolutely delicious. This is more of a steakhouse (as opposed to traditional tacos and burritos) and will not be good if you are not a carnivore. I've been twice already and both times, my steak is done perfectly...and I an a snot when it comes to steak. When we go we order the Ribeye and the Asada Nachos. Yum. The atmosphere is casual. They have flat screens all around...and I love it because there is FUTBOL on TV! Oh and when I inquired to the waitresses about why we were the only ones in a place this delicious....she reminded me that it was LENT! HA! Of course a steakhouse on buford highway would be empty on Fridays during lent!

Wow-they didn't have chicken enchiladas on the menu, I asked for them, and they ended up being the best I have ever had...EVER!!! We will be coming back here...a lot. The drinks are strong, the food is some of the best, and the service is so welcoming. Great job, La Costilla!

At first I wasn't sure. Yelp took me to wrong location ... The server wasn't very friendly at first . I came 1130 Saturday for some spicy food and fresh margarita. The chips came after a bit but Oh my goodness it was worth the wait. 4 fresh salsas and limes. My two favs were the smooth tangy tomatillo and appears to be roasted salsa. ( spicy and bursting with flavor) I ordered the 3 taco lunch special... Grilled meats... Chicken , pork , and steak ...each one tastier than the last ... So happy to find this place ( literally ) keep in mind they have a very limited menu.., mostly consisting of grilled meats! Yuuuuuhhhhm

This place is a great authentic Mexican restaurant with seafood, steaks and Tex Mex fare such as tacos and burritos for the gringos. It might seem a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth it considering how delicious the food is and the larger portions.

I finally got to try this place, which is located in the retail space formerly occupied by Pirates Pub. The menu is somewhat limited and seems to specialize in grilled / smoked meats. This place is almost like a cross between a barbecue joint and a Mexican restaurant, mostly evident in the menu items / descriptions. My two friends and I opted for the taco trio lunch special. One can opt between grilled / smoked pork taco, grilled / smoked chicken taco, and / or grilled steak taco. These tacos are soft corn tortilla tacos stuffed with meat and topped with a generous dollop of guacamole and served with ranchero beans. The price is $8.99 and perhaps only offered during lunch; however, we were there at 3:30pm and the lunch menu deals were still good. At first my friend thought $8.99 was a bit steep, but after biting into one of those phenomenal tacos he said it was well worth it. I should also mention that they give you chips and salsa as a starter, but instead of one salsa you get five different ones of various mixtures, colors, textures and heat levels. I will also mention that beer prices are very good. Domestic pitchers are $8.50 and craft / import pitchers are $10.00.

Not to sound racist, but im not sure they serve non-hispanics here. Either that or they just have the worst service ever....I believe its the former. My wife and our two kids sat at a booth and waited patiently for 15 minutes. Tried to flag down waitresses to no avail. Finally we just left. Menu seems interesting butbwoukdnt try that again.

My stars are not as much for the food but the really poor service. They do a lot of up charging. They asked if we wanted more tortillas and charged us. Got the grilled meat for 2 and wanted to order 1 meat choice for $29 and she said oh you can choose 2 choices on my bill I got charged $35.00 Ordered a pork and chicken taco after the tacos arrived at table waitress said we were out of pork bought you 2 chicken instead of asking if I wanted that or something else. Last had a valid scout mob said oh my boss not honoring that any more. Sorry I said them they need to pull it from scout mob and deal with them not me about it. They did after work honor it. Food was good just sad service bad and that they have to try to mickle and some you. To me that is not worth to come back

After seeing numerous recommendations from other folks in the neighborhood, I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Its super clean and spacious, with loads of TVs and a big bar. The space was pretty empty for lunch. The menu is fairly small and limited, and seems to specialize in grilled meats. Both hubby and I opted for the taco trio, which was a grilled pork, grilled chicken, and grilled steak taco topped with guacamole and served with ranchero beans for $8.99 at lunch. YUMMY. Service was slow and seemingly staffed with folks new to waitressing, but hopefully that will improve over time. I loved that they brought up fresh salsa and an accompaniment of yummy salsa dips. The chips were a tad stale and not that good (boohoo), but it kept me from eating too many so maybe that's a plus! I also did not care for the unsweet tea (very watered down), so asked for sweet tea instead (which tasted old), and then got charged for two beverages. Perhaps they charge for refills here? Anyway, wasn't worth it to ask, but getting charged $4 for two drinks I didn't touch rubbed me the wrong way. I think this place will improve over time. The steak tacos are so heavenly delicious that I will definitely be back for more!!!

I had the parilla individual and it was awesome. The steak tastes great and it was cooked perfect. The person I was with ordered the fish, steak, and chicken tacos and he was very pleased. It's probably a little more expensive than your typical mexican restaurant but the extra can be seen in the quality of the food. My New Mexican spot for sure, oh and the waitress Maria was cute too. My only gripe were the beans..not very good and the limes they gave me were dried out.

Lively atmosphere, their salsa verde they serve in the molcajete is smoky and spicy. I always get anything with steak here because it is incredibly tender.

I wouldn't say I'm a Mexican cuisine foodie but I do know a little to know the difference from good food to crap. Mothers day isn't the best time to check out a new place but I did. I have found from past experience when it comes to good Mexican food the look & feel of the restaurant isn't the best indicator. My favorite taco joint when I lived in San Diego was a hole in the wall, literally there was a hole in the wall big enough for the food. Ok now back to the review. My party ordered 1. Steak Burrito - I don't remember who had reviewed this Burrito in a previous post well the person got it wrong. The meat was decent but everything else including the Tortia wrap was pretty bad. I've bought wraps from grocery stores and they were better. 2. Chicken Flautas (misspelled I think) - It was ok, but be warned it could fill in for an appetizer. 3. Tacos- shrimp, Al pastor, Carne, fish - For 3 bucks a pop if ordered separately they're a poor indicator of prototypical Mexican food. The wrap was as bad as the burrito wrap, the meats was mediocre and absolutely no sauce of any kind. Just bare wrap with the meat. I've had 99 cent tacos in so many places that tasted better than any of them. 4. Margarita - $8 a glass for a really bad margarita. They used table salt to rim the glass, period do I need to explain further. 5. Horchata - Was probably the best thing that I ordered Ok now why the 3 stars. The food wasn't as I expected from the reviews I read as well as from the look & feel of the actual restaurant. The place was busy during mothers day lunch but that was expected. Everything took long but no one was complaining. The servers were slammed, they were shore staffed and with what little English she spoke she was very nice and apologetic about the wait. She was frantically trying to service so many tables I'm surprised she kept it together and I hope she did ok at the end of the night coz after an hr n half the place kept getting busier by the minute. So in short the servers are very nice and accommodating and try so very hard to make up for everything else that could go wrong. To summarize Nice large space, clean, friendly, good service, mediocre food.

Now this is real Mexican food! Courteous and very attentive waitstaff. The menu can be overwhelming to those unfamiliar with Mexican seafood platters but my waitress helped me pick out the perfect dish. The horchata was yummy in it's towering mug. The ceviche tostada was fresh and delicious. Te entertainment was awesome. Nothing beats a live mariachi band! Downside - they don't accept credit cards. They don't have a sign telling either. Who carries cash nowadays?

Im from Monterrey, N.L. Mexico, and I got really happy to know that this place was aperantly having some regional dishes, I cant complain with the steaks, they are good but they can be better, also I got VERY VERY dissapointed with the enchiladas, in the menu it clearly say they are made with red tortilla and fresh cheese, but they are not... its very very gringo style enchiladas, they use quesadilla cheese inside, white tortilla, tomato sauce on top and more quesadilla cheese and a little bit of fresh cheese, this should be called, envueltos de queso, no quesadillas, pleople from Monterrey will know. I was sad because I havent find some like those in any place around here. Also they serve something called michelada but its not, its a clamato, the michelada its completely different, I really wish they could do something about this. The salsas are ok, again they could do better, way much MORE better. Monterrey is very well know by their very own food style, and with that, this place can be almost perfect. As mexican and mexican food lover, I have to say that plaza fiesta have better mexican dishes, lot more traditional than here. ?Aaaaaah and the music... pleople should stop confusing with salsa and tropical beats with mexican, if this place could play more Ramon Ayala style music, me and my family will go every single week.

Solid authentic Mexican food! Probably my new fav on Buford Highway. The service can be a little slow and the food takes a while but that is because everything is homemade and fresh! The owners are also very friendly. Their speciality is marinated steak (or other meat) served with homemade corn tortillas and guacamole. Amazing!

Found the place as we randomly drove down buford high way looking for some authentic Mexican food. Fantastic food. Really authentic queso fundido con chorizo as an appetizer then shared a parrillada for two. Meat was perfectly marinated and cooked medium as requested. The tortillas were really good quality, looked like they could even be hands made. The house margarita was great, no sour mix, just fresh lime juice and tequila. Really authentic Mexican food, highly recommended.

Hands down best steak I have ever had at Mexican restaurant. If you come here you have to get the dinner for 2, 4 or 6 of the steak platter and you will thank me later. The seasoning is perfect and the quality of the meat is excellent. Usually when I order steak at a Mexican restaurant like a fajita skillet the meat has a lot of fat and is stringy. La Costilla uses a much higher quality cut. The margaritas are also quite good and very strong but watch out they are a bit pricier than I was expecting.

Found this place on Scoutmob. Was not expecting much when we went, but was immediately impressed with speed and friendliness of service. We tried two of their specialty drinks which were fantastic. The meal itself was well portioned and the meat was well seasoned and cooked to a perfect tenderness. Very impressed and definitely going back.

This was quite an amazing surprise! We received four different salsas with our chips. The were hot hot hot. Loved them all. The drinks were good. The tacos were so flavorful. The staff was also very attentive. This is quite a gem.

A must try! Northern Mexico food like a Mexican BBQ! The ribs are huge and juicy and the skirt steak platter magnificent with great, unique sides. The chips before hand are served with different sauces and a great home made salsa! Best part is its local and open late!

Just ordered queso with steak and they gave us hard cheese with steak on top. Even gave us cold chips. When we tried to return the food for normal queso they refused to make us happy and kicked us out. Please save yourself trouble

Delicious! Just to let you know this is not an order by number restaurant-- this is a Mexican steak house. I had an early dinner on 6/10/2013 at the bar. I wanted a smaller dish so the manager recommended the tacos. He brought out a big bowl of chips and pico, a red sauce (perfectly spicy), a green sauce, and limes. Then out comes my dinner. Three gorgeous, hearty steak tacos come out with generous guacamole on homemade corn tortillas. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

I travel all over the world with my job. I'm originally from Texas where we are known to have some of the best Mexican food. The other pilot and I decided to take a chance with la costilla grill and it paid off! I ordered the beef fajitas and they were absolutely the best tasting fajitas I've ever eaten. Served with awesome cheese, a bacon wrapped cream chease filled jalepano, beans and fresh guacamole. The other pilot had a full rack of BBQ ribs and said they were also astounding. The waiters took really good care of us. The chips a salsa's were very good. Overall I give this place a 10/10. I'll come here anytime I'm in the area and suggest you do the same. On a side note and not to detract from the good service and great food. The waiters and waitresses are also very attractive.

I will say this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. Myself and two buddies were in the mood for some Mexican food so we decided to head down Buford hwy to El Potro. As we drove by we noticed the parking lot was slammed. We were pretty hungry so we decided not to deal with the crowd and scratched the Mexican idea and decided to head down to Havana for some Cuban sandwiches. That's when we noticed La Costilla and decided to give it a shot. We were all confused looking at the menu which was very limited and didn't really offer any of your typical Mexican restaurant type foods. We considered just having a quick beer and moving on to another spot for some food but ultimately decided to each order an appetizer which we would share and get some tacos to go along with the apps. Let's start with the appetizers, I will go from best to worst. The queso fundido, which was described as mozzarella cheese (yes mozzarella at a Mexican restaurant) topped with chorizo. Well you could hardly call this a "dip". It was exactly how it was described a big pile of melted cheese topped with the chorizo. It was no where near the consistency of your typical queso. You couldn't even dip your chip in it... You had to spoon it onto your chip and even that was a hassle because the cheese was so stringy, now keep in mind this was the best app we had. Next were the wings, which I felt strange ordering wings at a Mexican restaurant but with the menu being so limited we really didn't have any other options. But at the end of the day nothing to complain about there, as far as wings go I've had better and I've had worse I mean we ordered wings from a Mexican restaurant what do you expect. And the third app...oh WOW this made me wonder if the restaurant was a front for some sort of illegal activity because I don't know how a cook with any type of experience could have put together something so horrible. The app I'm talking about here was some sort of bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese, which happens to be one of my buddies specialties so we had to try them. They were absolutely horrible, we couldn't even eat them. The peppers were barely cooked and NONE of the seeds were removed. Now I absolutely love spicy food, in fact the spicier the better for me, but these were flat out inedible. There was barely any cream cheese stuffed in the pepper and it was so undercooked any way that it wasn't even worth eating. And now to the tacos. The tacos were absolutely fantastic they seemed to save the meal for us. The tortillas seemed to be homemade and they were outstanding. We all got the steak tacos and the tortillas were piled high with meat that was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. The meat was topped with guacamole which was also very good and I loved the simplicity of the taco. As we sat there we discussed how the next time we would come back we would know just to order the tacos and a few brews and would be able to leave satisfied. At this point we figured it wasn't a complete bust. But oh were we wrong. The worst part of the meal by far was us getting screwed over by our server over the bill. Since we all ordered pretty much the same thing we decided to split the bill three ways and informed our server of this before we got the bill, this was the first mistake. The server came back and told us our total and we gave her three credit cards without actually looking at the bill, second mistake. As she went to take care of the bills one of us said the total seemed pretty high. Me and the other guy figured well we got a lot of food so it was probably right. The server brought us our receipts we added our tip up and the meal ended up being close to $30 a piece, third mistake. As we sat there finishing our beer my buddy kept insisting that we got screwed so we grabbed a menu and started adding up the total. Well come to find out our bill should have been about $15 less than what it was. We decided the only way this was possible was that our server added the gratuity to the bill without informing us. We looked through the menu and there was no mention of this. Now I understand restaurants adding gratuity to a party of 8 or more but for a party of 3? I have never seen that in my life. So at the end of the day it was our fault for no paying closer attention to our bill. But it didn't sit we'll with me paying that much for a mediocre meal when I could have had a much better meal at a nice restaurant for close to the same price. After reading the reviews I probably should have opted for the steak or ribs but we were in the mood for some Mexican food which was barely available on their limited menu. And I also understand some chefs can have a bad day and things might turn out not as expected, but the way our bill was handled was inexcusable. I will never return to this restaurant even if the tacos were excellent. If you decide to eat here my advice would be to order the tacos and pay attention to your bill.

I randomly came across this place after perusing ScoutMob one day and I was surprised that I had not heard of it since I live near Buford Hwy and frequent it often. I checked out some of the Yelp reviews and my sister and I decided to give it a try. The portions are enormous! They give you three different salsas to start, one of which was extremely spicy, but I really liked it. We ordered the parrillada for two and did the skirt steak. The meat was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. It is fairly similar to a fajita dish, but there aren't really any veggies besides half an onion. They give you guac and tortillas (handmade) so you can make little tacos with them if you wish. It also comes with soup, but I barely had room for it! We tried the queso fundido as well and it was tasty but a pretty small portion in my opinion. All in all, I will definitely be back! The house margarita was really yummy - not too sweet (which I hate).

The weakest margarita I've ever had - $8.00 each! Queso was bad. No typical Mexican dishes, only high end steaks that were mediocre. Do yourself a favor and drive a mile further to El Potro.

Went here with the bf and his crew. We called ahead and made reservations for the dozen or so of us so a table was reserved. The space was cramped as they squeezed tables together along the walkway, but hey, they were able to accommodate us. The bf, and friend, and I shared the parrillada regia (regia grill). It was the perfect portion size for us since we munched our hearts out on the chips and got full. Oops. We were hungry okay. The order came with soup. It was mostly of beans with some ham and other items. I sampled a tid bit of it, but didn't care for it much. The two boys however cleaned their bowls so it was to their liking apparently. The actual dish itself wasn't huge as the bf over hyped it (saying how two/three guys couldn't finish it). It had a lot of meat for sure though. Included in the dish were peppers stuffed with cheese. Yum. Service was friendly and pretty okay since they were busy. Parking was plentiful since this was a huge complex.

This place is awesome! A blend of Americanized Mexican and authentic Mexican cuisine. I had 3 steak tacos on my choice of fresh made corn tortillas. The marinade on the steak was perfectly seasoned. Each taco came with a nice dollop of fresh guacamole. Soooooo Yummy!! My lunch date had the steak burrito and OMG that thing was huge! It had steak, rice and beans inside smothered with queso cheese. I'm going to get that next time!! They speak Spanish primarily there but the menu is in English. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We were the only black ppl there but not uncomfortable like in some places we've been in on Buford Highway.

This place is delicious! A great substitution for my grandma's kitchen. If I can't have the real thing then I visit this place. I would've given this place 5 stars if the service was a bit faster and if the prices were a bit more reasonable. Also, a lot of the dishes do not come with your standard rice and beans. The dishes might come with one or the other. Although I shouldn't complain too much because the food is always hot and fresh and worth every penny. The secret is to not order too much and maybe share! My husband and I have been a few times and have always left satisfied. Our order for this visit consisted of queso flameado (melted white cheese with chorizo), fajitas for one, and the Taco plate. The Queso was fantastic. It's melted cheese that you eat by cutting some and rolling it in a tortilla. Heaven! And perfect for dipping in the bean soup. My only complaint is that the appetizer was small for the hefty price tag. Probably only enough for two to share. My husband had the fajitas for one. They were perfectly seasoned and the serving was plenty! Probably enough for two light-to- moderate eaters to share. It came with a cup of bean soup/or refried beans and tortillas. I had the taco plate. It comes with 3 tacos with the filling of your choice, and a cup of soup. All 3 tacos come with a generous dollop of guacamole. I chose carne asada, al pastor, and chicken. The carne asada was by far my favorite. The al pastor was a bit over seasoned for my taste and the shredded chicken was too wet. I'm not a fan of soggy tortillas. The tacos are generously filled so they are filling. The bean soup is delicious! If you have a craving for Mexican food then this is a good place to go!

You want good authentic mexican food at a reasonable price? THIS IS THE PLACE! This place takes the cake. Let's face it. There's a lot of places to visit along Buford Hwy with some being a little on the questionable side. This place doesn't give off that vibe one bit. Nice plaza with a lot going on. Plenty of parking. I'll admit that when we walked in, the first thing I noticed was that my GF and I were the only people who were not Hispanic in there at the time. At first we felt out of place. But based on all the positive reviews and the pictures, didn't care! After what I experienced, I'll definitely be coming back! The staff was very kind and quick! Quick with refills on water and chips. Always asking us if we needed anything. Service was perfect! The place is packed with TVs. There is a bar area. Very clean inside with dim lighting. But note: this isn't a quiet place. They play loud music so if you don't like restaurants that play loud music, ya might want to go elsewhere. I never been to a place that serves a free trio of dips, which include pico de gallo, guac, and salsa with chips. Most places generally just serve chips and salsa. Unfortunately, queso still costs extra. Shame. All three tasted great and the pico tasted really fresh! The chips are nothing special. We killed that first basket of chips and before I could even think to ask for more, the waiter was already on his way with a new basket. It's like he understood how my stomach worked. I fell in love. The menu is pretty stacked with tacos, burritos, steaks, ribs, and seafood offerings. I went with the 3 taco combination. Two steak & one pork. The pork was good, but the steak was INCREDIBLE! It was tender, not overcooked, juicy, and whatever marinade they used was auhmazing. Seriously, just get three steak tacos and call it a day. One thing that stuck out from every other Mexican place I've been to is the burrito. The size of that burrito was absurd. I mean it was the length of a person's body. No seriously, check out the pic I uploaded. It is as wide as my GF's torso. She may not be Shaq's size, but damn it that's one hell of a burrito! And it's not packed with just rice and beans. They make sure to pack it with meat so that you have it with every bite! Get the burrito if you're really hungry or if you want to have a burrito for two more meals. Got rice as a side, a burrito the size of a child, and three tacos for only $25. With the amount of food we got, $25 seems pretty cheap. Check this place out because you won't be disappointed. Another huge plus is that they're open late! So if you're like me and you eat dinner at odd times like 9PM (weird I know), but don't feel like being that person that comes in less than an hour before a place closes, come here (assuming you're craving some awesome steak tacos)!

My experience was sort of torn... I loved my tacos and margarita but everything else was kind of so-so. We sat inside since it was so hot outside but they have a small little section to sit outside if you desire. The inside restaurant was okay. It wasn't super comfortable, but it was fine for what it is. Like with most other Mexican restaurants, you get the chips and salsa to start off. They had a tomatillo sauce, pico de gallo, and a hot salsa. I didn't particularly care for any of them, but it was fine because it left room for my yummy tacos. I got 2 fish and 1 shrimp taco, and they were GOOD. The fish was better than the shrimp. My boyfriend ordered the paradilla (from the grill) and wasn't too impressed with it. He said the skirt steak was really good but the overall dish needed some umph. There was a sausage with melted cheese that he would have liked to replace with beans or rice. The margarita was fantastic. I could see myself going back for drinks after work sometime. The staff was nice enough, but for the amount of people there, service could have been quicker/better. We had to wait for water refills for too long. Overall, not a terrible place. If you come, get the tacos for sure!

I was craving steak tacos and I had dinner at La Costilla grill and I got what I expected, great steak tacos. Guacamole was delicious too, highly recommended. Go with an open appetite because the servings are big, I would recommend sharing plates. Great customer service, our waitress anticipated our needs and was very cordial.

I love Mexican cuisine and was excited to sample the fare at La Costilla Grill after reading some of the reviews on Yelp. However, my friend and I had a very disappointing experience. I accidentally spilled my drink and the waitress seemed rather upset at having to help me clean it up and didn't respond when I apologized twice. I ordered two chicken tacos and one shrimp taco. When it came out, the shrimp in the shrimp taco was clearly unclean, so I sent it back and asked for another chicken taco instead. The waitress seemed peeved again. When my tacos came out, the chicken was hard and dry and everything was cold. My friend however, did enjoy her steak and what I had of the piña colada was delicious. I'm fairly easy to please food wise, as long as it's clean and had some flavor, but this experience was pretty bad. I don't plan on eating there ever again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
