We really enjoyed dinner at the Himalayas Resturant. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside was well worth it. The service was good, the food was awesome. We had the dinner for two special. It was a great variety of food with awesome tast. We requested medium spice and it was just right. The cost of the dinner was very reasonble for a restaurant quality meal. We will be back any time that we are in this area.

The food is excellent here. I'm not the most adventurous eater but I love Himalayas. So does the rest of the family. We haven't' been too recently so I'm not sure what we get, but the sampler appetizer is what my mom almost always gets for dinner and we always end up having to get a second for the rest of the table. Every item I've tried there has been delicious, and only once did I get an item that was not marked as spicy that was too hot for me to enjoy. It's a smaller restaurant and at times can feel crowded, so be aware that if the restaurant is at full capacity you might feel a little closed in. It's also dimly lit, but not so dimly lit that my AARP card carrying parents can't read the menu. The service is usually excellent, the waitstaff friendly and helpful.

I wasn't gonna bother & give any stars !! Cause it is far away from being Indian food ! Nothing wast tasty, no spices no nothing! I ordered chicken masala & shrimp curry but both of them were watery ! Worst Indian food if I can even call it Indian !! The only star I gave because of the naan & that's it ! What a waste

Despite being a pretty dark and dismal-seeming hole in the wall as the previous review mentioned, and the fact that it's located in the lamest most-vacant shopping center ever, the food is really VERY good. The waiters can be chatty, trying their hardest to get you to purchase chocolate cake for dessert every time you eat. I get the same chicken dish every time and it always tastes so great. I have tried friends' lamb vindaloo (very spicy hot, but good) and other chicken dishes, all great. Dinner menu is priced similar to most Indian places. I go a lot by myself because I have a hard time finding friends that can keep up with my Indian cravings.

I've had Indian all over the world, including England, where it rocks, and this place is up there at the top! My favorite restaurant!

My handsome husband is an Indian food connoisseur and has eaten at most of the Indian restaurants in Atlanta, and he says this is the best! My beautiful daughter and I went with him on Saturday night and were equally impressed. My daughter got the chickpeas dish, I got peas and cheese, and my husband got chicken tika marsala, and all were delicious! The service was excellent and interior was pretty nice for an indian restaurant. Don't be fooled by the run down stip mall this is located in, because it does not represent the quality of their food!

Had an excellent meal here! Nan bread delicious. Vegetable curry and rice also delicious. Restaurant is nice and peaceful on the outside, even though the plaza they're located in looks a bit run down. Fast service, reasonable prices. Definitely pay them a visit.

Yum yum....I'm in the mood for Indian food! We enjoy this cozy, casual restaurant after a long work week. Some food favs are: Chicken Tikka, Shrimp Dansak, papadam with toppings, vegetable malai kofta, garlic naan (always FRESH), etc. We've eaten at Himalayas many times over the last 7 years & it is nice that they remember us when we return. Also, we've always had good service here and will continue to enjoy this nice restaurant.

Located in a dead shopping center Himalayas definitely falls into the hole-in-the-wall category of restaurant. Even so, they manage to stay regularly busy... even on a Tuesday. Apparently the average rating is 3.5 at the moment and I would second that. Quality of the food is better than average. We had Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Lamb Vindaloo, both of which were pretty darn tasty. The lentil soup and garlic naan were nice also. Service was just OK, a little on the slow side, but friendly enough. Although the restaurant was fairly busy it definitely did not have a buzz.. All in all a decent Indian restaurant. If you're in the area and you're in the mood for a curry you should give it a try. And for those of you on Scoutmob they have a fantastic coupon through April.

We started with the Onion Pakora app and it was one of the worst appetizers I have ever tasted. It was as if it had been fried earlier in the day, then reheated by frying it again and then had been left to sit under a heat lamp for a couple of hours. Not fresh at all. And when we asked if they had just made them, the waiter said yes. Everything else was just okay; Chicken Tikka Masala, Bhindi Bhaji (okra), rice and naan. Again, all were just okay. Not bad, but not as good as other places around Atlanta. We did have the tea and mulligatawny soup and those two things were the highlights of the meal! On a Scoutmob note, please know that the 50% off is only for dinners and al a carte items, not appetizers, bread, drinks, or side dishes. Also, not sure if the waiter was joking, but he said that the Scoutmob was only for "new" customers.

I've been here twice now, once for dinner and another time for the lunch buffet. The food is quite good, with nice hits of spice and savory flavors. The tandoori is excellent. The prices are average. The environment is quaint and charming, nicely decorated, and in the evenings dim lighting is complimentary for a romantic date. The staff was very polite. Don't be put off by the location... yes it is in a delapidated strip mall but that has nothing to do with good food!

Several years ago, my husband and I discovered this delicious Indian restaurant that's been around for over 28 years despite the less desirable location. We tend to walk in about an hour before closing time and they never seem to rush us out. The wait staff has consistently been good and the food never fails to be delicious. We enjoy feeling "appreciated" every visit! Will continue to be a favorite of ours--

Since my family starts a restaurant business, I check the health scores every time I walk in. Their health scores were 91-A, pretty good. I had never had Indian food before my first trip to Himalayas. I expected they would put my mouth on fire then I would be unable to talk for few days. But it wasn't spicy at all. In fact, we asked for extra spicy, maybe they got it wrong. Someone gave a lesson about Indian food before my visit. According to his knowledge, Indian cuisine varies from region to region. Different region, different religion has different cuisine. Himalayas is Northern Indian food. It's kinda interesting because cow is a holy animal in India, so some Indians usually don't eat beef. Maybe it's in the states, so for business, they are serving them. I am not saying it is good or bad. It's just interesting to know. They're what we ordered: Mango Lassi $2.95 (3 stars) - Rich and sweet. It tasted like mango and yogurt smoothie. Chicken Tikka $12.99 (3 stars) - It was a little too dry but tasteful. According to the menu, it marinated in Yogurt, mild spices, herbs. It came with onions also, and I liked the onions more than chicken. Beef Vindaloo $11.99 (3 stars) - I expected it would be super spicy, and it was not spicy at all. Beef was tender; sauce was delicious. If it was spicy enough, I would give it a 4 stars. I might try again next time, and ask them extra spicy. Naan $1.99 (4 stars) - It was baked bread. It is just go great with vindaloo sauce. We ordered everything from dinner menu, even it was lunch time.

Ordered lunch to-go. - garlic naan: naan was thick and dry, not garlicky at all. - pilaw rice: non-sticky white rice. - Aloo Parata: wish it was more potato and less bread. - samosas: one order comes with two. Ordered one meat and one vegetable. Samosa was tasteless, kind of greasy, not fulfilling... - assorted appetizers: assorted meats were dry. - chicken tikka masala: probably the favorite out of everything we ordered. Creamy, kind of on the thin side. Chicken was dry. - chicken biriany: colorful rice with a lot of little things cut up into it. - Chicken Achar: there was chicken in it. A lot of oil. - Beef Curry: beef was tasty, but it was sitting in an oily mix, was it curry? Hard to tell. So thirsty from all the dried-out meats... Service good. Food eh. Probably will not go again. If I did, I'd only reorder the chicken tikka masala and the chicken biriany.

I'm surprised about all of the 4 and 5 star reviews for this restaurant. I went here because I was craving Indian food and I wanted to try the one right down the street, but HImalayas was open on Monday. Anyways, I'm def a foodie and new to the area so I'm trying the local restaurants to find my favs. Let me just start by saying Indian food is one of my all time favorite cuisines and just moving here from Philly, I had high expectations! I ordered chicken tikka masala and an order of samosas. First of all, there was waaaay too much sauce and hardly ANY meat. And, the sauce was watery and not flavorful and not a little more creamy and thick like I'm used to. I specified that I wanted it spicy, but I wasn't expecting it to be on FIRE!! And, the vegetable samosas had no flavor and lacked seasoning as well. WTHeck is going on? Indian food is supposed to be packed with spice and flavor. And, shall I add that I think they are way overpriced for the value of the food I received. I won't be coming back and I'll give the other Indian place that just opened down the street from me a try next time. I'm hoping they will be on the level that I'm used to for Indian cuisine....fingers crossed!!

An indian restaurant not for Indians! The menu items are, of course, mostly Indian, but the taste isn't. (Imagine Zucchini and broccoli in Hyderabadi Biryani!) Perhaps, this explains why ours was the only Indian group in the 7-8 groups at the restaurant, and why among the earlier reviewers, non-Indians have given a 4/5 star rating, and most Indians have given just 1 or 2 stars. The service is bad! Long wait for food, and no one will ever smile even once at you. The food is not bad, just ordinary (Other than Biryani, we had ordered mutter paneer and malai kofta, both just okay), and given the range of choices that Atlanta offers, I am certainly not going back to this one!

Fast service clean with nice interior. I ordered chicken vindaloo and got the dinner option which comes with soup hot tea rice and a desert. I had already ordered tea so the dinner option made sense. The soup came without explanation too hot to eat but tasty after it cooled a bit. It was the color of autumn and came with a lime squeezed in. Before I was even half way through the soup the rest of the meal arrived including dessert. I dug in the vindaloo was spicy! Yum. The garlic Nan was excellent but had to be ordered separately. Next time - yes I think Himalaya gets a next time - I will not get the dinner option. I did not care for the soup and the dessert dish was not at all what it looked like or what I thought it would taste like. It was a yogurt thing and I thought it would be sweet. Anyway loved the vindaloo and while I was there several other diners came who were obvious regulars. The waiter greeted one with "lamb curry medium". All in all I reccomend it.

We do takeout a couple times a month here. The samosas are divine and so are the papadum. We love the veggie dishes. Chana and dal and vegetable curry, all are wonderful. Say yes to garlic naan. Ask for Indian spicy, and you will not be disappointed.

The Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Vindaloo are total crowd pleasers. Start your meal with some Samosas or some Chana Puri. If you're looking for good Indian food, keep this place in mind. Definitely worth a visit.

I've been coming here for years. The same two guys are always there, in the front, and they always recognize me and make me feel welcome. We always have a little chat before we order as well. The food is LEGIT. Aloo paratha, korma, kofta, vegetable biryani are the best I've ever had anywhere. They have meat but they are a super vegetarian friendly place. I went last night and my date isn't a huge Indian food person but I wanted him to try the best before truly deciding. He really loved the biryani and the naan, hehe. He got a rice pudding to go. He still can't say he loves Indian food, but he certainly can't say he doesn't like any Indian food dish! :smug: ~_^

Outstanding Indian food. The combos are a great way to try lots of different dishes on the menu at a really great price. The Cherry lassi was really unique and delicious, you should try it.

The food is mediocre to bland. There are better Indian restaurants that are far more reasonably priced.

I've been here a few times for dinner and take out. I'm a big fan of their samosa chat. My friends and I have tried the a few of their chicken dishes - and my favorite by far is the chicken tikka kabob (great for diets! without rice =D) I love spicy food - but they don't make it too hot on the spice scale for those with a mild palate. The times that I have dined in, the servers have been attentive, food is served relatively quickly, and their special drinks work. I jipped them of a star because: 1) I expect more out of ambiance for this place. 2) Last time I did a take out, the order was messed up. The waitress said I had given them the wrong order, and whispered about it to another staff member on the side. Way to make the customer feel welcome. But I'm not gonna hold that one time against them. All in all, good South Asian food! Check it out.

Last time I went to Himalayas I found a roach at my table. Last time I go to Himalayas, period. I had been to Himalayas a few times before. It's hard to find an Indian restaurant which has a buffet on weekdays as well as on weekends. So when I found about Himalayas I thought it was a God-send. The food was good, not great. A bit oily, for my taste. But it was affordable and never crowded, lots of parking, too. I even took family and friends to eat there. That's how much I liked the place. Until last weekend... My girlfriend and I found ourselves in that part of town around lunch time so we figured, can't go wrong with Himalayas. The food never blew us away but it was consistent. So we went there. We got our first plate, finished it and then got up for seconds. When we came back to the table, we saw a roach, about an inch long, walking on the napkins, around the plates which hadn't been picked up, etc. I brushed it aside and it fell on the floor. I notified the waiter about this and he didn't seem too surprised or disgusted, which leads me to think that was not the first time patrons had complained of pests in the dining area. He apologized, saying something about how they are still trying to get rid of them, which confirmed my suspicions. He didn't offer to comp our meal or anything. As we got up to leave, again we saw the roach on the wall, above our table. I think another patron saw it as well. Last time we ever go to Himalayas. I briefly considered contacting the Health Inspector or something like that. I still might. The roach on our table really ruined our dining experience and I'd hate to think that other patrons could also have their meal ruined because of this.

This is the home of the HOTTEST Indian food in town. You can get it mild, but why would you? Come in and ask for it extra spicy if you dare!

Move over Cafe Bombay. Your lunch buffet has been upped by Himalayas. Not only is the price the same at $10, but the food is just as good (maybe even better??), it's a lot less crowded, the servers are hilarious (in a dead pan humor sort of way), and it's 7 minutes from my house. My husband and I went for the lunch buffet and were the first patrons there at 11:47 (lunch opens at 11:30). We both loaded up on giant plates of chicken 65, chicken tikka, vegetable curry, chicken biryani, daal makhmi, cabbage bajj, naan, fruit ... And that was just our first plate. Ha! Food was fresh and very tasty. They had a lot of chicken entrees, one goat curry, and tons of veggie options. The chicken 65 was amazing! Probably my favorite buffet entree. The chicken tikka is not as sweet as some other places but still good. We had intended to use our scoutmob discount but ate so much for so cheap that we felt bad and didn't use the discount. Food and service were so good that we ended coming back the next week for dinner. The restaurant is located off PIB in a forlorn plaza behind IHOP and chick-fil-a. It looks pretty sad from the outside but don't let that discourage you. If anything be grateful for the ample free parking!

Always friendly service! Love this place and eat here almost every time I am in Atlanta. The lunch buffet is delicious and has a good variety of options included. You will not be disappointed with any of the dishes here!

Having been more than a year since my last visit decided it was time to return. A buffet is now available for lunch cost $10.00, after taking a look at the buffet was unsure about staying the server asked me "if there was something I was looking for ?" I named off a couple of dishes and he said he could get one of them made if I stayed o.k., cool, staying. The Bad and the Good of it: First the Bad - The food on the buffet had been sitting for more than a minute after sitting down found out the half the rice was hard and crunchy, the naan was cold and stiff and all of the food was underseasoned. The buffet shuts down at 2:30 I was not told this when walking in at 2:15 so be warned. The Good - The server came by and wanted to know how everything was while watching me maneuver food around the plate. After commenting on the rice and naan he promptly brought out a huge plate of fresh rice and even had a few pieces naan made which was great. The Sag Paneer that I had inquired about was brought out to the table a whole dish of it , it was tasty and quickly devoured. The Tandoori and Masala both were good. My advice if you are going for lunch go early otherwise stick to the dinner menu that way heat levels can be adjusted and all of the food is hot and fresh. I will give Himalayas a solid 3.5 if for nothing else the service as the server taking care of me went out of his was to accommodate.

(Also published on my food blog in a much longer version) It's been nearly 20 years since I've eaten at this venerable institution - as I recall from long ago, I thought the food was "OK" and have since dismissed it from my mind - funny, as I'm frequently in the area and it's not a bad drive from my office near Perimeter Mall. From the parking lot, Himalayas doesn't look like much - there's also a sister store "Himalayas Grocery" to the left. The restaurant was once in a bustling shopping center that has since seen a decline - I've heard that it's due for a sprucing up and will be the location of a new anchor store. Right now, besides Himalayas there's a Chik-fil-a, an IHOP and a Duncan Donuts/Baskin-Robbins facing Peachtree Industrial, so it's a bit of a fast-food alley. We were enticed to once again visit due to a Groupon - two buffets including a samosa and mango lassi, for the price of one. It seemed like a good deal and I'm glad it once again brought us to this good Indian restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is more high-end than you would expect from such an innocuous storefront - tables line the walls and middle, covered with real cloth table covers and cloth napkins. The service here is quite good, although at first brush you may be taken aback by the droll attitude of the servers - they're actually quite funny in a cynical way and know they're way around food. Himalayas focuses more on the cuisine of Northern India (some call it Delhi style) featuring many tandoori-cooked items and kabobs. We arrived around 11:30 and were seated immediately, heading for the buffet. The buffet is towards the back of the restaurant and consists of two lines - a non-veg line on the left and a vegetarian line on the right. I liked that they kept these distinctly separate as some of my vegan friends get pretty weird about the food "accidentally touching" when it's all in the same place. Towards the back is a cold line with many chutney and pickle options - also some great looking fresh fruit, salad and desserts. The first two hotel-pans you see on the meat-line were of a nice long-grain basmati rice and something you rarely see - dosas! The dosa is a thin crepe (traditionally they're bigger than these and in India served on a banana leaf but I think this is a much more manageable style for individual servings on a buffet) - these are time consuming to make and I was surprised to see them on a buffet. These are Madras style served with a delicious mint chutney. Next were two chicken dishes, first something called "Chicken 65" which appeared to be white meat chicken marinated in tandoori marinade (spiced curd) heated and tossed with jalepeno peppers - loved this stuff. Next door were traditional tandoori chicken wings that were very good - first time I've seen a whole pan of chicken wings done this way and I must say it's a winner. Next we get into the ubiquitous chicken tikka masala - most of my friends call this "butter chicken" and after eating three different variations of "butter chicken" while in India, I guess that's as good as any other name. This is a rich, tomato-y curry dish that even people that don't like Indian usually enjoy. This version was a bit milder than I like but still delicious and creamy. Next to it was something I haven't had before, sag chicken - pieces of chicken cooked with spinach, very tasty. The final pan held the goat curry which was appropriately spicy and tender. Across the aisle, the vegetarian options started with curried vegetables that had a nice combination of green beans, peas, potato, carrot, zucchini squash and eggplant. It had much more variety than what you usually see at your typical buffet and a decent amount of spice. To the right a very nice sag paneer with fresh sliced tomatoes - this was one of my favorites on the line - being saucy enough that it didn't get that "hammered" over-cooked flavor. There was then a tofu masala that was also very tasty next to curried eggplant that was delicious and finally a very nice pan of spiced broccoli and very fresh pakora (this latter also had eggplant in it - something I don't usually see). I filled up a plate and headed back to the table - all was delicious and I especially liked the dosa. I went back for about half a second plate, picking up some items I hadn't on the first pass, then hit the cold line for some dessert. I especially liked the kheer - at first I was a bit suspicious as it had more of a yellowish tint than I've seen and this usually means it's had some spice like cinnamon added to it (hate that), but this kheer was right on. I asked one of the servers and he indicated that the color was from the slow cooking of the milk and the almonds/pistachios added - the kheer was awesome! In all I left extremely full and happy!

This review is exclusively for the buffet. I don't know how much it normally costs, but on Scoutmob you can get a handpicked deal for $15 for two people to have the buffet, plus two mango lassis, and a samosa. There is noooo way I would come to this buffet again without that. We came shortly after 12:30 which seems like a good time for food to not be cold or lukewarm on a buffet? Anyway there's one side with rice, plus the meat entrees, and the other side with veggie options, plus naan and soup. Then in the back is the cold bar with chutneys and sauces, plus a couple dessert options and fruit. On the meat side, there was chicken biyrani, chicken 65, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, and goat curry. On the veggie side, there was veggie curry, veggie korma, broccoli bajji, and cabbage bajji, plus dosas and pakora. I always wanted to have a legitimate dosa (my experience at this point had been frozen Trader Joe's ones) but this was disappointing because it was cold and hard to eat. Most of the chicken also suffered from being far too dried out from sitting, especially the chicken 65 and chicken tikka masala. The chicken curry was really good, as was the broccoli bajji. But temperatures were a huuuuge problem like if the health inspector showed up I bet they'd get dinged BAD. The mango lassi was good though, as was the piping hot samosa, the only thing at an accurate temperature for wanting to eat food, honestly. Everything tasted good other than not really being hot. So I think I would give them a chance again, but I would stick to the actual restaurant itself. What was really nice was that the service was there but you never really noticed. They weren't hovering or anything and you certainly didn't interact much with anyone, but water glasses never went empty and plates were cleared quickly.

They have curry goat for the lunch buffet here which I like. Food here is decent but not spicy. Service is great, cozy dinning environment. Will be back to check out their dinner menu.

Came here for the lunch buffet. More selection than other indian buffets that I've been to! Beau loved all the variety of veggie dishes. The server came around the tables with fresh naan for us. The food was excellent. Mango lassi was wonderful. If I'm wanting indian buffet, I'm coming here! Oh and Scoutmob has a great deal. Check it out!

The lunch buffet is delightful and inexpensive. The waitstaff is professional and courteous. Located on Buford Highway in an almost abandoned strip mall, these guys are in no danger of disappearing as their quality is just superb. The lunch buffet gives the novice a very good sampling of a variety of cuisine that is fresh and hot. Nothing is too hot and spicy. For a REAL treat, order some Samosas, you won't be sorry! They are fantastic.

Came here for the first time with a Scout mob voucher. The setting is a little more formal than we were expecting, pretty nice atmosphere and Indian music playing in the background. The food on the lunch buffet was fantastic! They had chicken and goat curry, a variety of vegetarian dishes, and we even got to have the mango Lassi which was nice and refreshing. Would definitely recommend this place - we will be back! The only potential downside is that the servers aren't as extremely friendly as a lot of other places. You definitely get what you need when you need it, but may not get service with a smile.

Went here for Lunch. This place is in a run down strip mall and the only reason we decided to go here was cause we were starving. Should have eaten at Chick Fil A instead which is quite close to this place. The food was pathetic. Lamb / Mutton was chewy and tasteless Chicken 65 was the worst I have ever had Chicken Makhani gravy was tasteless and it was too watery

ok one time failures you ignore after 15+ yrs; but 2nd time in row yesterday. butter chicken was tough, chewy ( tasted and looked from slicing like re-cooked an then dropped in sauce - could be wrong though). Tofu Marsala was unusual ( was cooked tofu again seeming to be dropped into sauce) service was also poor. sorry guys, what's happening? we will be looking for other options, you lost our loyalty

The best Indian buffet in Atlanta! Without mentioning any names, other restaurants are known for serving watered down curries and less popular dishes during their lunch buffet. Himalayas pulls out the big guns to amaze and keep you coming back. On any given day, you will find a number of meat dishes from chicken tandoori to lamb curry. An array of vegetable dishes are always available to satisfy the palette of vegetarians and meat lovers alike. The dining experience is serene and relaxing with meditative santoor and veena chords playing in the background. This is a one hour break sure to get you through the rest of your day.

Ordered online from Eat24 for delivery, and decided to try something new! Indian food is something in which I do not have extensive knowledge or experience. I've been to one lunch buffet before in Norcross, and was a bit 'meh' about it, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this dinner. However, I am open to trying new things, and Indian dish descriptions sound really good to me in general, so here goes! Started with garlic naan, which is a no-brainer for me, because I love garlic, and I've had plain Naan before. Then I added samosas, because meat and seasonings in a pouch is like a smile - understood Universally. And if you thought samosas were girl scout cookies, you're mistaken. THEN, as far as an entree, I decided on Chicken Tikka Masala because, 1. I love chicken, 2. I love gravy, and 3. I've heard this is a popular dish as far as Indian food goes. Overall? VERY GOOD. The samosas were very good although could have used a bit more savory seasoning. The Chicken Tikka Masala was awesome. Had no idea what to expect and really enjoyed this dish with the rice included. The sauce/gravy was delicious. The meat was interesting - kind of weird texture and pinkish - but still very good. Loved the rice too. I got to try the chicken vindaloo at medium heat and it was not super hot to me - which is important because I am a super wuss when it comes to the food heat. The delivery guy was lost and had to call me and kinda be handheld but he was super sweet once he arrived, and very apologetic. Overall a good experience and I'll definitely be ordering from Himalayas again.

We went out for buffet with groupon. Makre sure you check with them before using groupon as they are not accepting it. Not much crowded so you have some attention on what you need. Being vegetarian, Food is good. Vegetarian options are dal soup, samosa, mushroom curry, brocoli fry, vegetable kurma, naan and chana masala. Desert options are watermelon, rice pudding and gulab jamun and some salad. It will cost you 10 dollar for lunch buffet on Sunday. if you look out for huge vareity then you will be disappoint for sure. There is no much variety of food but whatever is there they are excellent and tastier. Best thing are dal soup, samosa and naan is so soft. I would go again for sure.

The first time I visited this places was 6 months ago. I have been here 3 more times since than. So it's time for me to update my review. I have to say that each time I come back it gets a little better( when most places go down over time). The service is still great, very attentive . The food is better, all hot items was hot and cold items were very cold. I give them four stars and not five because the lunch buffet had the same dishes each of the four times

Not clean- they were rated 70 something in April and now their score is 88 because of employees not washing hands plus having insects, bugs, rodents present. We were over charged for the buffet- our 6 yr old son only eats the naan and we were charged $6. We have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years and every time we leave thinking it's not worth the price and we feel taken advantage of. We keep trying to give them chance after chance but it's not changing. Poor service, with a smile to stick it to you once your done. I would not recommend. Save your money and find a clean place to enjoy your next naan!

You've come a long way Himalayas! This was the very first restaurant that I ever tasted Indian cooking at back in those wild days of 1991 ... Himalayas was at the forefront of bringing Indian cuisine to metro Atlanta. For years, their interior was a single storefront with framed indian artwork on the walls and "white tablecloth" trappings and service. There were some ornate booths separated by hung tapestry and the menu was a la carte or prix fixe. I enjoyed many of their dishes particularly the Mulligatawny soup, Chicken Tikka, mixed Tandoori and various appetizers. Ensuing years saw the rise of newer Indian restaurants ITP that worked the formula a little differently and I only recently returned to Himalayas after reading some current Yelps. I was pleased to see that Himalayas has indeed doubled in size, adding the next storefront to their original site. The interior has been substantially updated with the furniture and decor reflecting a more modern sensibility. The food is still as good though. They are featuring a luncheon buffet now and I tried several items including a Dal soup, Chicken-65 and the standby Tandoori chicken. Onion Bahjees were good, crispy and oily like fried onion strings whirled into a ball and are a nice compliment to the soup. I found their Naan bread to be a bit overly dry, like crying out for butter or glee but it was fine for dunking in sauce from the chicken Kurma. The buffet had a large number of vegetarian dishes as well as a small iceberg salad bar. They put out all the typical Indian sauces for you to try as well including tamarind, mint, yogurt-y Raita and uber-spicy pickled mango. If you are unfamiliar with Indian cuisine, then looking over the items on their buffet is a good way to sample some dishes. I found the Service to be spot-on during my recent visit. Water glasses were kept filled and dishes were constantly bussed. I recognized some staff members from as far back as my visits in the Nineties. ODD CAVEAT: the buffet set-up is a bit new to Himalayas and I can only guess they purchased the steam tables as used equipment from Restaurant Equipment Depot or some place going out of business. My assumption is based on the labels taped over the glass sneeze guard above the various food items. Those labels indicate asian foods that I don't think Himalayas would put out e-v-e-r ... so i've caught you here, Himalayas! (Bwah-HA ha!) Either you bought the new tables and rushed them into service without a thorough cleaning or else some days you are featuring bourbon chicken and green beans along with the tandoori and Pilaw rice.

Maybe I'm being generous giving them 3 stars? I went there some time back but it's time I posted a review because it seems that perhaps the personnel don't seem to care if they lose customers. The restaurant seems to be aptly named and is apparently run by hill people rather than Indians, as were the manager and at least the head waiter who stood there like a sentry but did not even fill up our water once! Forced to pay $4 tip and tax on around $30 for a Scoutmob deal that promised to be far less - as for the deal, just look the other way - better, run! Mango lassis were tiny. When asked about a certain item on the buffet, the head waiter was non-responsive as though he did not speak English. In a nutshell, unfriendly, unattentive service. Food is mediocre and the friend I went with went home and threw up! Never again...

They have very nice momos! We had also ordered special Himalayan spice biryani which my friend liked very much! The naans are pretty big and the best ones we had in Atlanta.

Himalayas Indian Restaurant has been in Atlanta for almost 20 years. I finally got to try out this establishment for myself recently and came away pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is tucked away inside a giant strip mall on Peachtree Industrial Blvd, just south of I-285. It's in the same shopping plaza that China Inn used to be in. The restaurant space is one giant rectangle with booths running down both sides and tables in the middle. Decor is simple, yet elegant. Small chandeliers hang from above, tablecloth dining with real flowers at each table. The booths on the north wall have extra furnishings and decorations including artwork and individual lamps. At dinnertime, most parties are seated in one of the booths. During the evening hours, these guys bring candlelit ambiance to a whole 'nother level. You're almost literally dining in nothing but candlelight. It was so hard for us to see when we first entered the restaurant. When I took pictures of the food (as I normally do), I felt like the flash on my camera was lighting up the entire place. After our meal was over and our eyes had adjusted, I still thought it was too dark. I'd actually like to be able to see the food I'm about to eat! They just need to turn up the interior lighting a tad. The restaurant serves about 70 or so different selections of Indian cuisine including biryani (meats cooked with aromatic basmati rice and flavored with saffron) and tandoori (meats roasted in an open-top clay oven). Most of the entrees are priced around $9 to $15 each. At lunchtime on weekends (12:00-2:30pm), they offer an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for only $8.50. The buffet features about 10 selections and is the best value when dining here. I tried the following: Lentil soup Papadam (crispy spicy tortilla) with condiment stand consisting of: - onion chutney, brown tamarind sauce, and green mint sauce Nan - puffy bread Raita - yogurt Pilaw rice - rice cooked in a seasoned broth Chicken Tikka Masala - boneless chicken tandoori (white meat) sauteed in masala gravy with fresh tomatoes Chicken Kurma - cooked with very mild spices in creamy sauce Mango lassi The lentil soup was mild, light, and refreshing. It had little bits of green vegetables in it. The papadam was great. One order comes with 3 delicate, extra crispy "tortillas." The papadam was infused with spices so it had a small bite to it. The condiments had strong flavors and we liked them so much we asked our server to leave the condiments on our table after we were finished with the papadam so we could eat them with our rice and nan bread. The nan was fantastic. It had been freshly baked and was huge and puffy. It was overflowing from the plate it was served on. Soft and pleasant texture. The raita yogurt proved perfect for cooling off our tastebuds in between bites. It went well with everything (carbs and proteins). I loved the pilaw rice as it was fluffy and aromatic. Almost addictive. Both the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Kurma were made from white meat chicken. The best thing about these dishes were the gravy sauces the meats were cooked in. Full of spices and seasonings, so a lot of flavor. The Chicken Tikka Masala can be prepared as spicy as you'd like it. The sauce was a deep burnt orange and a little tangy thanks to the fresh chunks of tomatoes. It's one of the restaurant's most popular dishes. I preferred the Chicken Kurma, one of my favorite Indian dishes, because of it's rich, slightly sweet, creamy sauce (light brown in color). Some cuts of chicken were more tender than others, but as a whole, these dishes were very good and I recommend both of them. If you're looking for a good drink to try, definitely order a lassi. Lassi is a yogurt-based drink that is also mixed with Indian spices. Himalayas has 3 flavors: plain, mango, and cherry. I tried the mango lassi and it was superb. Ice cold and nice and thick. Once you start gulping it down, you can't stop. Seriously. Service was interesting. One of the servers saw us headed towards the restaurant from the parking lot, so he grabbed some menus and opened the door for us to welcome us in. Most, if not all, of the servers here are big time upsellers. After I ordered the entrees, the server asked us if we wanted any bread. Before we could even answer, he mumbled, "Papadam would be good. OK?" Then he briskly walked away. They were also hard sellers on the mango lassi and dessert. I overheard one server taking away an empty wine glass from the table behind us and then trying to convince those customers to have more wine. One of the customers replied, "What are you trying to do? Turn us into alcoholics?!" That was funny. So, the upselling was annoying, but the rest of the service was good. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the servers were attentive to our needs.

Food: For two people, we ordered the Lamb Sag (lamb with spinach...really really really delicious), Chicken Tikka Masala, and one order of Naan. The Lamb Sag was really tender. I want to try the Shrimp Sag the next time we go. We got both curries Spicy. It was actually not as spicy as I hope or thought it would be, but we still really enjoyed the food. Next time we may try Extra Spicy. We had enough left over to take as leftovers for my husband's lunch for the next day. They also give you more rice to pack up, which was awesome. Beer & Wine: We got a glass of wine each, one chardonnay and one cabernet sauvignon. Each were around $6 and they pour you a good amount of it. They have a pretty good selection of wine. Service was great. The waiters were nice and attentive. Its a great place for a quiet dinner. It was our first time there and we can't wait to go back. I also heard they have a really good buffet for lunch, definitely gotta try that next time!

Horrible food and service! We ordered delivery and they messed up our order, when we called to tell them that the food tasted horrible and the order came w meat samosas instead of vegetarian, the guy asked us to call back since there was no manager available at the time! I would not recommend anybody to go here..we got all the leftovers from the buffet in our food since it was their closing time for lunch! Disgusting!

I have never had true Indian food before.. The delivery pamphlet was on my mailbox this week and I idly looked it over and circled things I thought sounded interesting. I woke up around 6pm after two long weekend shifts back to back and decided to stay in. I also decided tonight was the night. I wanted to know what all this Tandoor stuff was all about, and I was famished. I was nervous calling to place my order for delivery. And I mean nervous enough that my darling S ordered Chinese too incase I was unhappy with my meal. Sweet. The gentleman on the phone was very nice, and I think he could ascertain that I was new to all this, I quickly went from butchering the names of dishes to saying things like "V 4" and he asked if I had ever had it. I explained I had never had ANY Indian food in my life. My parents don't eat spicy food and I never ventured out. I'm a square. He asked me my name, and shared his name (THAT I refuse to butcher on yelp) and helped me with all my selections! He was very informative and genial. He told me they have been in business for 18 years and I had called the right place. We talked about what Naan was and he recommended I try the plain first, and tomorrow try some others (: I liked his enthusiasm. You can choose between Mild, Medium, Hot or Very Hot for all of your dishes. He also asked me to call tomorrow and let them know what I thought about everything good and bad. I promised him I would. We ordered a selection of dishes to try out all the flavors. Pilaw Rice- highly aromatic basmati rice flavored with saffron $1.99 ... He added this to my order, and told me that it's very common to eat the dishes atop the rice and it will cool down the heat of the spices. For pretty plain white rice, liked it. It was extremely moist and went well with all my orders! Lamb Boti Massala- lamb marinated in yogurt and mild tondoori spices, then baked in a Tondoori Oven and cooked with cream, almond, pistachio & Chef's special Tikka Massala Sauce. $14.99 We ordered it Medium and it is delicious! I love the sauce so much! I've been dipping bits if naan and Pilaw Rice in it. It seems as if its more as a sauce-soup like dish with chunks of meat in it, I'm not complaining! I will say the lamb was a bit tough and chewy but it didn't turn me off to the dish as a whole. Lots of flavor, creamy and good texture! Wishi had more naan to soak up this curry sauce! Chicken Curry- cooked with ground spices and fresh herbs $10.99 This was a very delicious choice in my opinion. The chicken is cooked well and tender. We chose Medium spice and I really enjoy it. It is a bit hotter than the Lamb Boti but I really like the curry spice. It needed a heat I think. The sauce is much thicker, and absorbed by the chicken than other dishes. Naan- flour baled bread cooled in a tandoor (clay oven) $1.99... it was fluffy and had a good flavor, warm and great dipped in our dishes. Aloog Sag- potatoes cooked with spinach and fresh ground spices $9.99 The potatoes were very soft and flavorful, and the spinach was cooked perfectly, but it was more of a spinach dish with a few potatoes than a potato with spinach dish.. If that makes sense...but good! Vegetable Biriyani- Vegetables cooked with aromatic rice and flavored with saffron $10.99 The vegetables in this rice included broccoli, potatoes, carrots, green bell peppers, green beams, peas, celery etc. it had lots of flavor but it wasn't overly spiced and not salty whatsoever. I stumbled upon a raisin or two which was strange but it didn't spoil my bite. It is actually very flavorful! But it's pretty untouched. I'm not sure if this 'Indian Fried Rice' is for me so much. Maybe the thick carrots and potatoes threw me off. My bf liked everything I ordered, and his brother Matt who is a big fan of curry and exotic food said it was the best he's had in GA. A big compliment considering the places around the world he's been. All in all I enjoyed it! The prices are a bit steep for the amount of food we got but I will go to or order out from Himalayas again without a doubt! I really want to try the garlic and cheese naan and the Peshwari Naan. Raita is also something I was told I'm missing that will complete my meal. Next time !

Located in a strip mall behind the Dunkin Donuts on Peachtree Industrial, this place does not look like much from the outside. Opened the door and walked in on a cold Saturday night and was immediately greeted with a blast of smoke in the face! A darkened busy dining room with a wide variety of patrons, young and old. Greeted quickly and seated in a booth. Service was quick and friendly but I would say the English was limited (limited to great help with menu selections!). My date and I selected had Goat Bhuna medium spicy and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were excellent and the dinner service included bread, soup and tea or coffee after the meal. We also got some awesome Garlic Naan. In and out for $33 or so before tip. This place is a jewel. Green tablecloths, glassware and great Indian food. Not the cleanest or neatest place in the world, just a place to get great authentic Indian food at an EXCELLENT price. I will definitely be back here again.

So so Indian buffet lunch. Some of the food was cold and did not taste fresh. The building was a bit run down and while not dirty, it didn't feel clean.

So through a series of unfortunate events, I was up the street at one of the many car dealers on Peachtree Industrial getting my car's passenger mirror replaced during lunchtime. My boyfriend, wonderful man that he is, had volunteered to save me from twiddling my thumbs at the dealership waiting for the repairs to get done, by taking me out for lunch. Unbeknownst to me (but not to him), Himalayas Indian Restaurant was nearby and apparently quite good. Off we went, and I was more than a little skeptical when we parked in an almost deserted giant strip mall parking lot and walked into a tiny doorway with a sign invisible from the street designating it as Himalayas. Inside there were probably 6 or 7 other people already dining, and in typical Indian restaurant fashion, the head waiter gestured us to a white table clothed booth and filled our water glasses as we sat down. The menu was quite large and very well priced - especially when I saw the amount of food we ended up with when all was said and done. I decided to get the chicken tikka dinner and my boyfriend ordered the chicken buhna (similar to chicken curry but differently flavored). Since we both got dinners instead of ala carte, our meals came with a bowl of lentil soup, rice, a choice of tea or coffee, raita and naan. And it was all good. And plentiful! The buhna that my boyfriend ordered had a was in a very tasty sauce that mixed well with the rice and naan, and the chicken tikka I ordered was brought to use table side still sizzling in its iron skillet and then served up by the waiter. I was quite surprised by how large the servings were once I was the big chunks of chicken tikka the waiter was doling out. The naan was light and fluffy and fresh, the rice wasn't sticky at all just light and fluffy and even the lentil soup (which I'm usually not a big fan of) was rich and tasty. Needless to say, I was quite full by the end though! That was a very substantial lunch, and I was really impressed with the quality of the food, especially for such a tucked away little restaurant. If I ever end up back in that neck of the woods though in the future, I would certainly not be opposed to going back for another Indian fix.

Okay, I have never been spelunking, cliff diving or made it a habit of jumping out of planes, BUT I have recklessly ventured into some of the scariest "hole in the wall" restaurants and tested my fate. Case in point: Himalayas Indian Restaurant. Tucked away in a ginormous empty strip center with a thrift store as the main anchor, Himalayas seems lost in the sea of concrete before it. You don't get any warm fuzzies as you park and quickly lock your car and press the alarm button, twice. When you enter it is dark, which is weird because it is lunchtime. I order nervously. Strange sounds come from the kitchen. Papadam is brought out, the lentil soup calls out. Deep breath, I step up, as I imagine one would when about to bungee jump off a bridge (nope, haven't done that either.) I jump in! Delicious! I bounce happily from appetizer to soup to entree! Awesome food! I have been back a few times since then, the thrill has been the same. Live dangerously!

I'm not an expert on Indian food, but I am an expert on what tastes delicious. Himalayas is delicious. On the weekends they have all you can eat lunch for $8.95. How awesome is that?! Also, the service is A One....quick, and friendly. I normally get the veggie kurma or curry. The ala carte is plenty of food, but I usually get the dinner for the rice and soup that comes with it. I'm a chunker when it comes to this place. I also like their garlic naan and appetizer sampler that gives you a little taste of some of their opening dishes. Don't let the location fool you. This place is the real thing.

Great place to just relax and have a peaceful dinner.. Place wasnt crowded on a saturday night.. Food was ok.. Not a lot of options for vegetarians.. Vegetable curry was a bit less spicy than I prefer but the flavor was good.. Rice had an amazing aroma of mild spices.. The best part was the chutneys n papad - chutneys were fresh and spot on in terms on flavor.. They dim the lights after 8.30pm i guess so its almost candle light dinner after that which i loved!!

I first discovered this restaurant with my boyfriend and his parents on Christmas Eve. It turned out to be a great dinner and since then, he and I have happily returned to this restaurant. Their garlic naan bread is great. Light and fluffy and just the perfect amount of garlic seasoning. Their soup is awesome. I always order their chicken tikka marsala and am very happy with my menu choice every time because their food is consistent. I enjoy their tea that is served with your dinner size entree and if they can just be a bit more conscious when it comes to their wait service, I would be more than willing to give them the full 5 stars.

I've been going here for lunch for probably 10 years or more. Though they recently changed to a buffet at lunch (it's better quality than most) I used to order the same thing almost everytime I went it was so good I never tired of it and they always remembered me and my order. They store next door is great also. My #1 Indian restaurant choice.

I have never been for the buffet so I can't comment on that...However, I have been several times for dinner and we absolutely love this place. The servers have this dry sense of humor that just make the experience even more enjoyable. The food in my opinion is absolutely wonderful. From the chicken tandoori to the goat bhuna to the samosas. We have never had anything bad here. I love Himalayas and telling people about this place. I would second guess some of the reviews (again have never been to the buffet so that might be the difference). Try this place for dinner you won't be sorry. Keep doing what you are doing. Love the guys that serve us every time they remember us and are always funny!

I have mixed feelings about Himalayas. The food was slightly overpriced and took a very long time to come out. Our first course was a lentil soup, which I believe was just watered down dal? How can this constitute as soup..... We ate it anyway (my immigrant mentality of no plate left unclean prevails regardless of these extra 20lbs I keep carrying around). Anyhoo, 45 minutes later, our tandoori chicken came out. I proceeded to be quiet for the next 20 minutes while attacking the chicken for all the meat it could offer. It was pretty flipping fabulous and tasted like it came from a tandoor. I figured this was probably what took so long. I eyed my fiance and watched his tandoori chicken consumption; after all this was MY CHICKEN. Fiance ordered the chicken korma which was equally fabulous but my tandoori chicken was MORE FABULOUS. We used our Scoutmob, but the waiter threw a mini tantrum which I was really confused about. I kept laughing because I thought he was joking, while my fiance glared at him with the most evil evil-eye I've ever seen. He said that we had already used the Scoutmob before (????) and totally did not understand the Scoutmob iPhone app.....may I add that this was our de-virginizing Scoutmob experience and we were already a little shy about using it for the first time....then he said this was for only new customers.....we have definitely not been there before and Scoutmobs aren't meant for new customers. Not sure we'll be back purely for the customer service aspect, but for food, Himalayas receives a solid 4 stars from us!

Once you get over the dimness of this place, everything is gravy. I felt like it could have been a "Dining in the Dark" experience when we first arrived. It took me 10-15 to adjust. Maybe I don't have enough photoreceptors in my eyes. According to the servers, this restaurant has been around for ~20 years; that's cool. The mango lassi was good and thicker than other lassi drinks I've had. It's sweet and a little tangy. After I ordered the lassi, we thought the server was joking when he added roti to our order. We kinda laughed, but didn't say yes or anything. Then he brought it out and charged us for it later. It didn't cost that much and good thing we were using scoutmob. The roti came with tamarind sauce, garlic sauce and one other sauce, it might have been mint. I ordered the Chicken Tikki Massala dinner. You have the option of ordering a la carte or dinner. Dinner comes with a lentil soup. I've never ordered this dish as a main dish because I usually get my fill at Indian buffets. Daniel B. and I agreed this was a REALLY good dish. The chicken was tender and the sauce was just the right bit of creaminess. Gawd dang, I licked that plate clean. I like the big piece of naan they give you. Oh so soft and carbo-licious. The Chicken Makhni was also very good. It has a creamy tomato base. I didn't get it because sounded as though it would taste like spaghetti sauce with a sharp, tomato taste. I'm glad Daniel ordered it. It took some time for our food to come out even though the restaurant was not too busy. However, I must say, our food was REALLY good and the portions were pretty ample. It turned out to be a very satisfying dining experience.

I want to go there now. Only I just went. Not that long ago... but dammit now that I'm writing this, I'm probably going to go. Like right after. They made me Lamb vindaloo with ghost chilis in it... even though I'm white and stuff. The ambiance is very subdued and date-night conducive. They have an excellent buffet on the weekends. Not a ton of items, but very delicious. I'm afraid they'll go out of business and then I will be sad, so you should go eat there. For me. Because I asked.

This was an "ok" experience. The food was ok, and the decor was very outdated. I got the tandoori dinner but it only came with two pieces of chicken...which was a little disappointing. All and all, the food was ok but it was nothing to write home about

I love the Yeti. Seriously. I love him. OK, I draw the line on Man on Yeti action (or more accurately, I'm guessing, Yeti on Man action.); what I really mean is that I love the idea of the Yeti. I like thinking about a large-footed Bumble running around Tibet, eschewing human contact, and playing beer pong with Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster. OK, this has nothing much to do with Himalaya the restaurant other than, well, the Himalayas connection. I just wanted to go on record stating how much I think the Yeti ranks as one of my favorite cryptids. So suck it, Jersey Devil. Anyway, Himalaya is located in a forlorn strip mall, close enough to BuHi to count among a BuHi trip, but since it's not actually not ON Buford Highway, it often gets forgotten. The strip mall itself is anchored by a hotel furniture liquidator which only adds to the desolate, "I Am Legend" vibe you get when parking. Luckily, the restaurant itself is much more lively. Sure, the threadbare interior has probably seen better days in the past, but it has its charms and, hell, there are actually living, breathing people in there. Though some reviews harsh on the service, I haven't really had bad service here. It's polite and efficient and my water glass maintains its level. They'll patiently explain dishes to Indian food novices; they'll definitely do a better job at explaining than I'm capable of. ("Uh, yeah....I think that dish is, uh, green. And that other dish? Orange.") Is the food here "authentic?" I don't know. I think we established in the last paragraph that my knowledge of Indian food begins and ends with what color the dishes tend to be. I do know that most everything I've had is pretty tasty. The last time I was here, I was a bit disappointed in the spiciness, but that was my fault entirely. The waiter asked, "Hot or Indian hot?" Still reeling from an experience years ago when I ate a curry that felt like I tongue-kissed the Heat Miser ("It tastes like burning!"), I asked for regular hot. Stupid me. It was good and probably had plenty of heat for most. I just wanted a little bit more. But as I said, I got what I asked for. Couple of other things: The beer is plentiful, but the wine list is lacking. Even a wine novice like myself could take one look at the wine options and think, "If this wine list were a person, I'd question his tribal arm band tattoo and his well-documented love of the band 311." Yeah, so stick to beer or water if you must. Four stars for Himalaya.

This place was great! I never would have known about it if it weren't for the scoutmob. They give you papadam to start with various sauces which are all great. We split the dinner for two which came with assorted appetizers, chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, vegetable curry dish, rice, naan, dessert and tea!! It was a ton of food for a good price. I wish it wasn't so far away from us. Would definitely go back.

I've been to this restaurant twice in the past week. The first time I visited alone. This restaurant is in a pretty dilapidated and mostly empty shopping center. I drove through the parking lot just to see what was there. Himalayas is a lonely restaurant surrounded by empty shops. I like adventure though, so I pulled into a parking space and looked at the generally decent reviews on Yelp. I was so surprised when I entered the restaurant. It is very lovely inside and it has a romantic atmosphere. I was the only single person in the restaurant. I ordered the saag paneer dinner and it was very good. It came with rice and soup. I also ordered a side of naan. The naan was a little burned. Service isn't super fast, but very friendly and attentive. I returned a few days later with a friend and she had chicken tandoori and I had shrimp tikka. It was a kind of tomato based dish. I ordered it medium plus spicy, since my medium saag paneer was not really as spicy as I like. It was perfect. My friend tasted it and told me that it was way too hot for her. I like spicy hot though, so I was happy. This would be a great place to take a date.

This restaurant Is probably where I want to stuff my face. Chicken tikka masala: superb! Mushroom baji: delicious! Naan: out of this world! The location is a little old and shabby but no reason to turn around! Great service with nice waiters and staff. I would truly recommend come to this Indian restaurant multiple times! Thank you Himalayas! I shall return!

Can't believe I spent about $20 for dinner, esp. considering I could've gotten more variety and unlimited amounts of food at an Indian lunch buffet (like Cafe Bombay - my favorite). It didn't help either that the food here was just so-so. As Todd P mentioned in his review, we had a party of 9, and ordered the assorted apps platter, 9 different entrees, and a few orders of naan. One thing we should've done was order the entrees "a la carte" instead of the "dinner" portion. The "dinner" portion is a few dollars more, and includes rice, raita, soup, and hot tea - but I think only some folks ate their soup (which by the way was probably my favorite) and only a couple people drank the hot tea. We probably didn't order a good variety either b/c like Todd said, a lot of the dishes looked alike and some tasted very similar to each other. Portions were disappointingly small, too. In my opinion, I think Indian buffets are the way to go. I'm all about getting good value :)

Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Its is a really isolated strip mall and not the most inviting space. They seemed pretty busy at dinner time so I guess they have their loyal set of followers. The test of an South Asian place for us is the biryani and the biryani here was very average-ish. It was an ok place in the middle of ok-land serving ok food. Certainly not a place I would recommend to anybody and have not been back there since!

Very good place! It's definitely a restaurant not a fast food place. You will have to wait for your food which is good because it gives you time to enjoy your company or yourself lol. But in reality, one of the better Indian Cuisines around Atlanta. They make some good Tandoori as well as delicious varieties of lamb. Go for spicy I say! :) Don't forget the Naan! (and samosas!)

We came here because I was craving Indian food and they were offering a Scout-mob. Overall, our experience was less than stellar. The service was so slow. Like turtle speed slow. First, they make you pay for poppadoms which most Indian places I have frequented have included for free. Second, I ordered a mango lassi as soon as we sat, and it took about thirty minutes to arrive. We also waited a solid forty-five minutes for anyone to take our order. The food arrived much, much later. It was OK but combined with the wait, I don't think I will be back again.

So yeah, my cute date and I decided jointly to give this place a 4 star rating... The food was good, the service was good, the wine was good........my date was reallly good! The lack of stars here seem to relate to the service, but as someone who likes to order and be left alone - well, yeah...I thought he did a good job. Our server brought us the bottle of wine my date ordered and made sure my glass was always full (this is a big deal). Maybe my date filled my glass a few times...who is to say, really. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo, because I generally iike it nice and hot. My date (oh, boy - he was totally cute!!) ordered the Chicken Makhani. But the funny part was when my date (cute, remember?) thought my Ckn Vindaloo was too spicy and ordered some Tandoori Chicken. Cute, no? Yeah, it was. And the tandoori chicken was sooooo good. So was his Chicken Makhani. Both delicious. I liked this place a lot. And not just because I had an unexpectedly great date here, but because I really liked the food. In fact, I think I'll go warm up those leftovers now.

Just had dinner here tonight. Decor did have a cozy feel as Amrita J suggested. Although I was in a group so the dim lighting didn't seem to fit for us. Perfectly fine if you're on a date though. Since I went with a group we were able to do family style and try a bunch of different things. I enjoyed the crackers with 3 sauces they brought out in the beginning. Had vegetable and beef samosas to start. The beef was tasty and the vegetable was a bit bland. We got Tandoori chicken (a bit dry), lamb vindaloo (deliciously spicy), some chicken bhuna (slightly spicy). Not bad but not great either. Pros: Good service Appetizers Vindaloo Cons: dry tandoori chicken

My favorite Indian restaurants in Atlanta. Although the service is usually rather brisk and impersonal, it's prompt. I love their soup, and have enjoyed pretty much every dish I've tried there. The papadam and trio of condiments that accompanies it always go quickly with my family. I generally go for either the chicken curry or vinadloo, the tikka masala, sag panir, lamb sag, and the garlic naan are all great as well. The food tends to be well balanced and they will modify the spice level to your preference. Always walk out feeling full and happy!

I love this Indian restaurant in Chamblee. I've been going here for years and love to introduce new friends to this place. I find their dishes to have more hearty and intense flavor than other Indian restaurants. My favorite dishes include Chicken Bhuna, Bindhee Bajhee (?spelling), Lamb Pasunda (my friend Lindsay's fave), Lamb Roganjosh, Eggplant, Lamb Briyani (Deb this one's for you!), their whole chicken tandoori, rasmelei (dessert) and naan. ... ok, ok.. I know I did a terrible job spelling the dishes, it's not my thing. I just like to eat them and take pictures of them. (Check out my pics) The restaurant is located in a strip shopping center with very little going on in it. The decor is nice, a bit dated- but normal for an Indian restaurant. Reservations are not necessary and kids are welcome. This could be a good date place if your date enjoys ethnic cuisine and don't need decor to impress. I so want to give Himalayas the elusive 5 star rating! The main reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because there are some dishes that I don't care for like their saag (it's on the creamy side) and their portions are a bit on the small side. Also, because I go there so often they sometimes get a little overly friendly and they constantly try to get me to order more food, add a glass of wine... It reminds me of the days (ages ago) when I worked at Taco Bell and had to do "suggestive selling" and ask everyone if they'd like sour cream on everything they ordered! Otherwise this place is great!

I love this place. I have been about three times and it is always a pleasant dinner. I like the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, samosas, and other dishes. The prices can add up quickly if you aren't careful, but it is worth it every now and then. The service is a little slow, so don't go if you are in a hurry.

Went for lunch with Indian coworker, the surrounding is not very good, but inside decoration is pretty good and the food is great! Had Tandoori Chicken and Shrimp Biryani, both are very tasty, and the price is not bad at all. Highly recommend.

It was good indian, not great. The buffet is especially good. saturday and sunday from 12-2:30 only $8.95. That is a great deal. Fast but not real friendly service.

The food is good. We had the chicken tikki masala and lamb vindaloo. In addition, the bread is good too. The prices aren't bad, for what one gets. The $21 per person includes bread, soup and entree's. The entree's had enough spice to be warm, but not enough to kill the flavor of the food. Several reviewers have commented on the wait staff. While they are not personable, they are extremely efficient. They arrive at just the right time and provide just the right service. Our waiter used a clean napkin to pass plates for service. The atmosphere is good. Don't let the shopping center turn you off. It's the food and service that will bring you back!

Addy C and I decided to have an unofficial UYE at Himalayas and joined a fairly large group, 9 of us total, for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We decided to go family style so everyone could have a sampling of a few different dishes. We started with their assorted appetizer plate which included onion badji, samosas, tandoori chicken and a piece of a sort of sausage served with mint, tamarind and onion chutneys. The apps seemed pretty standard fare to me and we all seemed to enjoy them enough that the plates were cleaned up in just a few minutes. The menu lists each item available a la carte or in a "dinner" which includes rice, a cup of soup, raita and tea. We ordered a variety of dishes, including: Lamb vindaloo Chicken tikka masala Chicken Makhni Saag paneer Chicken tikka Tandoori chicken Chicken overload, right? At least we had some spinach in there in the saag paneer, and there was another potato/veggie dish that we also got but I can't remember the name. We also had a few different breads as well -- plain naan, garlic naan and one with onions. The food had decent flavors, some spicier than others, but the problem for me was they were all plopped down without much of a description from the server, so I got confused which dish was which and all the flavors blended into one mass experience rather than being noticeably distinct. This could be mostly due to the fact that almost every dish was chicken something or other and that the curries/gravies were similar in preparation. Ho hum. We all noticed however that the serving sizes seemed small for the price, an average of $12 for each dinner. What we thought would be a somewhat inexpensive night turned into about $20 per person for the food, and a bit more for those who had beer along with the dinner. Not sure if the quality of the food matched the price point. Overall, though, the night was fun, we had good service and we all got stuffed.

This is NOT an Indian restaurant. It's a Bangladeshi restuarant and that's reflected in the food. The service is good - the staff is courteous. It's just the food. It tastes bad. It's fine as long as they don't market it as Indian since the food doesn't taste Indian. We were disappointed because we went there thinking it's an Indian restaurant and with the first bite realized that it was false advertising. We ordered Dal Makhni - it was kinda sweet - this is major evidence of the fact that this is a faux Indian restaurant. We also ordered Seekh Kabab. The fact that we ate half of it and didn't care to bring the leftovers home indicates that the taste was inferior.

My sister in law brought me here about 14 years ago and we have been coming to Himalaya ever since. I love the food, love the friendly owner and staff, love the garlic naan, and love the Chicken Tikka. They have great soup. Neighborhood atmosphere.

Being Indian I wanted to support our local peeps when we moved into our new home in the area. Unfortunately from the moment I ordered to the time I received the food there were red flags. Firstly, we placed a take out order on Friday evening of Labor Day weekend. While ordering I was put on hold 4 separate times. After placing my order for 1 vegetarian dish + soda + tea, the person on the line asked me what I wanted ~ I suppose he forgot or didn't write it down after I told him? Anyway, I re-ordered and was told it would arrive in 15-20 minutes (the restaurant is less than 2 miles away) ~ this was fine with me. I confirmed the address and paid via credit card. 30 min. later I called to confirm the driver didn't get lost and was told he was on his way and knew exactly where I lived. 15 minutes later I get a call from the driver confused about our address. I told him again where it was and opened the door so he could see me waiting outside. We received our food, except one of the drinks was missing. After paying over $25 for 1 meal, I was a little peeved. I called and asked them about my missing drink and they said they were busy. No apology, just that they were busy. ??? After all of this, we hoped the food tasted good ~ naan was cold, matar paneer tasted off, and the soda was warm. The dal makhani was good (not great, but definitely more edible than the rest). Poor service, sub-par food, and lengthy delivery service means this is the first and last time I will ever order from here. It's sad because I was excited to try a new place in our area and was extremely disappointed.

Went here because of a ScoutMob $15 off deal. Key point: If you go to an Indian Restaurant, and there are no Indian folks eating, it probably isn't going to be "great". Place was packed. The only Indians were the servers. Food was good, "southern US" style (meaning no spice, kind of bland). Chicken Tikka Masala should be rich and yummy. It wasn't. Chicken Vindaloo should make your shins sweat. Didn't even need extra water (but could have used some more chicken-it was mostly potato). Everyone was getting Samosa's, so we decided to get those too. Very ordinary. The Na'an was good. It's better than a two star, but nowhere close to a 4 star. If you want good, rich, tasty, spicy Indian food, there are many better places nearby.

If I'm on this side of town, I always make a point to stop by for lunch as this is consistently one of the best Indian meals in Atlanta... And you don't need to insult the cook's momma to get your food HOT!

I have been going to Himalayas for years. I love their lunch menu and their dinner menu. Their kabobs are very juicy and tasty. I find the service their excellent. The spiciness of the curries are prepared according to your taste. They will ask you at the time of ordering how spicy you would like your food. I liked their chicken tikka masala and their lamb curry. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had a good flavor. I also enjoyed their vegetable samosas with the tamarind and mint chutney. At your request, the owner will bring his special hot sauce, which be careful...because it is very very very spicy. Just one drop will suffice. Overall, i enjoy the service, the food and the atmosphere.

I have been going here since I was a little kid, so years and years, my dad even has a VIP diner card they gave him one time that's good for 10% off. Because of this, every time I go I am asked if I am having my usual, and if I say yes, they immediately bring out a creamy sweet mango lassi and vegetable samosas along with papdam and the condiment stand. Then after I have finished disecting my samosa (I don't like peas, so I tear it open and eat it with a fork to avoid the peas) they bring sizzling chicken tikka, always falvorful moist chicken breast on sizzling onions and peppers with a lime wedge, pilaw rice, buttery and flavorful, but watch out for the occasional cardamom pod (no that's not a pistachio, people) and plain naan bread. Sometimes, I will also get aloo gobi, but always mild as one time I ordered it hot for a change and it was so spicy my lips burned for hours. If I'm there with the family we usually end up with a chicken pasanda and sag paneer as well. They do have a fairly tasty mango ice cream and rice pudding as well as some little doughnut type thing in rosewater, but usually I am too full after eating dinner, so usually pass on dessert. The only reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars is because their ventilation system is pretty inadequate, so on busy nights, it gets pretty smoky from the tandoor oven and you also leave smelling like an Indian restaurant.

I've been going to Himalayas since I was a little kid and it is still my favorite Indian place in Atlanta. The service is good and the place is cute. Don't be fooled by it being in a dead looking stripmall. They have a really awesome lunch menu and a lunch buffet on the weekends. I'd eat here all the time if I lived closer.

Best Indian food I've had since I left New York City ten years ago. New favorite spot...been in bizness 30 yrs they just told me. In a deserted strip mall in Chamblee. But banging food!!!! Shrimp Puri was exceptional as was Chicken Tika Masala. Don't be put off by the location--strip mall seems abandoned except for them...lol

I travel extensively with work and have to eat out alot. I ordered from this restaurant through fodder.com and they delivered. I order the lamb rogan josh and a few different naans. I thought everything was really good, especially since I was having it in a hotel room. The soup they sent wasn't anything special but they threw it in for free so I can't really complain. I'll be ordering from them again. Good choice if you fly into PDK also.

If you're around the area and you're craving indian, it's a safe bet. None of the dishes were spectacularly good but nor was it bad. I would say the keyword is "typical." But the nans here tend to be huge, we ordered five for a group a nine and ended up having one leftover. I wouldn't mind coming back here but prob wouldnt go out of my way.

My wife and I went to Himalayas on a Friday night as we were in the mood for some Indian and conveniently, there was a 50% Scoutmob for it, woohoo! The restaurant is located in a pretty empty strip mall off Peachtree Industrial and there's not much signage in the front so you kinda have to know where you're going to get there. When we first walked in, we were seated pretty quickly as the place was not very crowded even though it wasn't very big. Even though we were seated quickly, it took a little while for someone to come take our order. Besides this delay, it was actually decent service, not very common at Indian restaurants. The menu was pretty standard fare, although there were some interesting spellings of some items. We ended up ordering the dinner portions of a couple of entrees, malai kofta and sag paneer along with garlic naan and the onion bhaji appetizer. The dinner portions come with soup and raita. When the soup came, it was way too hot to eat right away and both of us scalded our tongues trying it. It was basically a lentil soup and once it cooled down and we were able to eat it, it was ok, but nothing special. The onion bhaji appetizer was a lot bigger that we thought, it was almost like a blooming onion except it was shredded onion that had been deep fried. It was also ok, but nothing special. The entrees were better than we expected. We had ordered medium spicy, but when we tried the entrees, they were a little spicier than we expected. It was still pretty good though. All in all, we didn't have very high expectations of Himalayas and only went because of the Scoutmob and we wanted to try it out since some other friends had told us it was good. We ended up being pleasantly surprised. It was a decent Indian restaurant.

Best place to go for indian food. Their tandoori chicken is the best I've ever had. It comes out sizzling with grilled onions. it's not too dry and very flavorful. Their chicken tikka masala is mediocre. Go with the chicken bhuna instead. it's a curry dish and you won't regret it. Great vindaloo, samosas and saag paneer. For those of you who like seafood, their shrimp masala is awesome. ( not on the menu, you have to ask for it) Make sure you get the onion kulcha nan. They also have a spicy hot sauce made from hot peppers home grown in the owner's backyard! Beware, one or two drops is all you need. Mango ice cream is freshly made and a must. Have a few kingfishers along with your meal, and you'll go home happy only to crave it again the following week.

I get take-out from here fairly frequently, and occasionally we go out to eat here as well. Obviously, since I'm a regular, I feel that the food is pretty good. I'm a vegetarian and they make very tasty motor paneer, saag paneer, chana masala, and malai kofta (those are my favorites). They are always able to spice to individual taste, and I ask for my food to be "hot" - which it is! In the restaurant, service can be a little slow sometimes, and there have been a couple of times when I have called to place a take-out order, have been put on hold, and basically forgotten about. Other than those issues, though, this place is a great option for dining out (or getting take-out) when you're in the mood for South Asian food.

I went to Himalayas last night with my sister and a close friend of ours and although my sister and I had not been to this particular restaurant before, we were willing to give it a try. It's easily overlooked being that it is in a shopping center where the sign is not easily viewable from the road. So we get there, and the atmosphere was nice, the lights were dim and although the space was small, it was nicely decorated to give you a cozy feeling while enjoying your meal. The staff was very friendly and tended to us appropriately. We had ordered naan (indian pita bread), saag panir (spinach and cheese dish) , lamb vindaloo and chicken makani. The dishes were very good and at medium spice even had my nose running a bit....LoL.For 3 people this appeared to be just the right amount of food. We finished it all. The entrees come with rice and raita (yogurt) as well. Overall I enjoyed the dishes and would certainly come back to satisfy my craving of Indian food.....

Himalayas is in our neighborhood, and we are committed to supporting local restaurants. We have been dining at Himalayas for many years simply because we adore Indian cuisine and it is convenient. However, the servers are routinely rude and the service is very, very poor. The food is never delivered in a timely fashion. Tonight was the last straw. We waited for one hour to receive our food, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. It is time that we as consumers stop supporting those establishments that do not honor their customers who have been with them from the beginning. Although the food is decent, there are too many good Indian restaurants in Atlanta to put up with such inadequate service. Shame on Himalayas for treating its customers so disrespectfully. We have made the decision never to go back.

i'm not indian so i dont know if this is good "indian" food but i know it is good food. my husband and i like to get the tandoori chicken, vegetable biryani, and naan. i always get "extra mild" because im a wimp. i really LOVE the yogurt sauce - raita, i think its called. i put that stuff on everything. sometimes we'll eat it there, sometimes to go, sometimes at dinner, sometimes at lunch. bottom line is it is always good!! and their lunch specials are a deal. plus the service is always nice - the same guys have been there for years.

This is one of my go-to Indian restaurants in Atlanta, up Peachtree Industrial in the same parking lot as China Inn. I enjoy their saag, their vindaloo, their tikka masala, their curries, you name it. A bonus, when you ask for 'hot', the spiciness is truly there. My biggest complaint about most places is it is never spicy enough! The garlic naan is great as well.

    (3)
  • D.L H.

Not sure if the definition of medium changed but the dish I had was spicy as hell!! Go on a Thursday when the poultry and beef is fresh. I did, and was rewarded. The owner is quiet, but keep talking to him, you'll get a smile out of him and then you'll be friends for life.

  • A P.

A real review from an Indian.... I know good Indian food, this doesn't even come close. The samosas are way too oily, and when you actually taste the oil, it's kind of gross. The chicken tikka masala was literally the worst I have had in recent memory, the gravy didn't have the right flavors, although it was spicy as I requested which was the only plus. My garlic naan came out cold, and I asked for a warm one, so they threw mine (the one I bit into) back in the oven and brought it back to me with a charred bottom, which tasted like crispy charcoal. That probably violates some health codes! Yes the place is moderately priced, but do yourself a favor and skip this place for someplace that is better! You'll be very glad.

I went to this place with a friend a few weeks ago. We decided to go for the sampler since this is my first Indian restaurant in Atlanta. My recollection is that the samosa was pretty good but the Tandoori chicken was a little dry. My friend order the lamb vindaloo and I had the chicken kurma. The chicken kurma is my all-time favorite Indian dish. I used to go to this place in Virginia that had what I thought was the best chicken korma ever. The chicken kurma at Himalayas did not measure up to that. It did not have the coconut flakes and the creamy texture that I liked so much about the chicken korma near my old place. It was not bad though and it was definitely better than the vindaloo dish that my friend got. I used to like eating vindaloo a lot before I discovered korma. I have a pretty high tolerance for spicy food and vindaloo in my opinion is not that spicy. Pretty good food. I don't have another Indian restaurant in Atlanta to compare it to yet.
