Flavorless no asian flair whatsoever spent $40 very disappointed didn't take my leftovers home and that never happens, I wouldn't even be able to remix my meal at home... Sauce in noodles tastes like canned spaghetti O's no garlic no flavor hadn't been here in years and I see why! Seafood build your own bowl was a waste of time and money with imitation crab meat. Don't go here unless you don't care about how food taste & you just want to waste your money.

Great food, Wednesday wine special, HORRIBLE SERVICE! We were the only customers from 3:00 - 6:00. The server came to our table a couple of times. We had to ask several times for assistance. Once evening shift came in, several servers never acknowledged that we were here. I would never recommend this place to anyone because of the lack of customer service!!

Really wanted a great sushi option in the Prado center. This ain't it. I'm at the Prado very frequently and have a sample size of about 10 visits to Genki over 2 years. First, the sushi quality is inconsistent. Today was a new low. Second, the selection is stale. Third, it's an up-priced menu. As another reviewer said, there are much better and more reasonable options within a short drive including Ru San's.

I had been here once before. The food was mediocre, and I would've given it a 3 star rating. After giving it another try, 1 star is more appropriate. A group of 5 of us went there on a Saturday night, and had sushi. We ALL got stomach viruses. Mine lasted about 48 hrs, and hit me Monday morning. Could it have been a one in a million coincidence that all of us got sick? Yes, but let's be realistic... Their food is bad, and if they weren't in the location they are, they would've gone out of business a long time ago. Sushi Bar Yu-Ka is so much better, and so is Ru San's. Avoid this place like the plague, unless you're lookin to drop a quick 5-10 pounds...

Don't understand all the haters below. I've been going to Genki intermittently pretty much since it opened -- not frequently, but perhaps once or twice a year. Never had anything but a great experience, in terms of atmosphere, food, drink and service. What I've eaten: appetizers, sushi (used in the generic sense of "uncooked fish"), and bowls. All deliver precisely as promised. (To those here who criticize the food -- what was your level of expectation for this place? Given its location, pricepoints and target demographics, if you came expecting Tomo, then you must really get frustrated when you buy a steak at Kroger and it's not as good as the one you got at Chops.) The food is consistent, solid, fresh, and well done. I've never had a bad meal. It's all about expectations. When you come to a place in the midst of a Buckhead bar strip and you expect high-end dining, white tablecloths, and a quiet reflective mood, you aren't going to get it. You come here to talk, laugh, have fun, and eat good food while you are doing it. Two great decks (in front and in back); a good wine night (don't remember the prices, but you can find them); good late night specials, etc. But the attraction goes beyond the food. The way it's set up, especially on the deck, encourages something of an enjoyable party. Yet, if you sit inside, especially further back, you've got a quieter evening in store for you. The staff is attentive and really moves the fun along as opposed to getting in the way of it. The bartenders are excellent. Two things keep it from a fifth star: (a) a place like this probably tops out at a fourth star no matter what; and (b) I know its Buckhead, but the parking is lousy. I'll be back again.

A westernized Japanese restaurant. The food was presented very nicely but was too salty. Sake bombs were always good and fun. Mediocre.

Was looking for a really good noodle shop for traditional Asian dishes. Very disappointed. I think it is the difference between creative cuisine and not knowing so you make stuff up. I live near Philly and we love our cheese steaks. When I travel and get a cheese steak outside of philly, they are usually just fair. But last year I was in Amsterdam and got a cheese steak where it looked like the chef heard the words "cheese" and "steak" and just put them together in the way that made sense to him. But it was not a cheese steak and was not even good. Same with Asian food at Genki. Part Mexican. Part Cajun. Part Asian. Mostly funky. And worst of all, not good. Some examples: yakitori with deep fried cheese stick. Noodle bowl with grilled cucumber, zucchini, spinach, fried broccoli., and blackened shrimp in a greasy beef/chicken broth. The Hawaiian poke lacked all the traditional ingredients other than raw tuna. Update: Day after-- spent the night drinking water all night. So much salt!!! Up many times during the night as a result of my dinner at Genki--- this is not the way a dinner is supposed to be remembered- and remembered it will be.

If you like salt ,Joshua (general manager) will give it to you in a cup to drink. This is the worst meal deal groupon trick ever pulled by a waiter. He redeemed this on my phone and handed me a desperate look. I explained this to Joshua but he didn't care. The general manager should be fired for his customer service skills. He took my plate back and did not accommodate me. Noodles salty. Rude service by the waiter. I hope someone roll the camera back and see what transpired 5/24/2015. No refund. No apology. No meal. 3 customers in a restaurant is a good sign that the Buckhead location is soon to be out of business . $29.00 wasted. I want my money back. Contacted groupon .

I don't understand some of the reviews below. I have been to Genki multiple times, during both the day and night, and have never had a bad experience. Many people are put off by the prices, but the truth is that sushi is expensive no matter where you go; Supermarket sushi, which is never anything to brag about, rarely goes under $10. With that being said, there is a great atmosphere to the restaurant and the employees are always ready to help and strike up a conversation. If you're looking for an upscale Japanese restaurant this may not be for you, but if you want to relax and have a good time, definitely go!

Second time here. Food is great. Large portions for a great price. I would recommend sharing the bowls if you aren't starving. Love the patio seating. Great service, ask for Shelby, she's attentive, friendly and graious.

I have been here a couple times and love the food but have NEVER had such bad service!!!! Mac was our server tonight and not only did he look sloppy, have horrible customer service, and wipe his nose on his hand before coming over to handle our food and plates.. He just sat inside chillin talking to another server who looked just as sloppy and she was sippin drinks outside. We sat outside finishing our drinks 20 mins after our ticket and he didn't even blink at us. I am upset that my dinner out wasn't as pleasant as planned due to my lazy and/or high server.

From what I understand this place is under new management (I think?)... so I'm glad to say I didn't have the poor experiences that other people had! So I went all "fat-kid" here and had the cheese kari-kari (sweet baby Jesus it was creamy and oh so good) and then I decided to continue on with my cheese fetish with the genkatsu. I'm not even sure how to describe it, other than the love child between sushi and calzone. I know that sounds weird, but it was awesome. It was beef wrapped up in a fried sushi roll situation stuffed with mozzarella and jalapeños, and holy crap I fantasized about it a bunch until I got off my ass to go get more. Also, in true fat-kid style, I stole food off my friend's plates. I tried the Reid Roll and Genki Tuna and Edamame, and they were delicious. I actually used to think I hated raw tuna, despite my love for sushi... but maybe it just took a good place for me to realize it is delicious. I've had more dishes at the other VaHi location, and they were good, but since I'm reviewing Buckhead... we'll just stay here for now. I also drank some hot sake and some Zipang, which is a sparkling sake and dangerously good. It's expensive, and easy to chug, so pace yourself! Or not, but I warned you. ;) Finally... I sat on the patio which was surprisingly nice considering it's bar neighbor. It didn't interfere with the experience, and I had a perfectly good time talking with my friends without shouting as I expected I would have to do in Buckhead. Also, they have a pet puffer fish inside, which makes me the happiest. Anyway, now I'm rambling and want genkatsu. Great. Thanks a lot! ;) I'll be back.

Possibly one of the worst "Japanese" food I ever eaten. Note: Genki Noodle & Sushi is not the same Genki Sushi chain that has stores in many countries. This place markets its food as authentic Japanese but unfortunately, the extremely overpriced speciality bowl I had was far from authentic and just plain awful.

Expensive as hell for lunch. Very bad service, slow, and gave us dinner menu instead of lunch which I don't know why. Ignored us for 20 mins with no water (which she already took the order for). Instead of spending so much money on aquariums, they need to train their servers better. Also, what is with their outfit? If you wanna have pricy food, u better have some good service with neat uniform and a higher class look. Just saying. The servers here looks like they just got up from their nap! And do soemthing about the hair!! They don't tie it back. I don't want hair on my food thank you very much!!!!

I'm surprised that people give this place such poor ratings. Granted, most times I come here have been after a bar crawl at the surrounding dive bars. However, I honestly think they have some of the most flavored chicken fried rice in ATL. It is the best stuff and goes well with edamame. Sake is straight too

A lot of variety and quite delectable! You can't go wrong with the Reid roll. I've had a great time with every visit. Other reviews complain about parking, but it's in Buckhead....what do you expect. Definitely the best sushi in this area!!!

Having Stephen greet us by our first names was the perfect way to start off our night. Tiger shrimp appetizer was just the right amount of spice to balance the guacamole and wontons, one of my favorites!! Entree was spot on with the Genki Tuna Roll tempura flash fried perfectly!! Each bite was better and better. Having a friendly bartender checking on you and telling amazing stories is the perfect way to spend a laid back evening. Look forward to seeing Stephen again for another great evening spent with great food and drinks!!

I DON'T like writing unfavorable reviews! I go out of my way most times to find something positive in the reviews I have written that are unfavorable. And although there is only a small percentage of them in my overall review count, I generally have chosen NOT to review dozens of businesses because I couldn't find something positive to say. So why not walk away from this review? Because if you want to come here, there are some things you need to know. ---------- - - - - - - - - - - THE DETAILS Date & Time: Saturday, September 1st, 2012 @ 5:15pm Dining Companions: Wife, kids & their friends What to expect: PAY TO PARK after 4pm!!! Decor: Attractive decor and patio Service: Oscar was polite, but not particularly engaging. Liquid: water Ordered: Calamari ($7.95), Chicken Egg Rolls ($6.95), Shrimp fried rice ($12.95) Dislikes: everything Total: $30.08 ---------- - - - - - - - - - - THE SCENE It all started when my Yelp sweetheart posted her review. I haven't had a fantastic egg roll in years, so I was more than willing to drive the distance to check this place out... even though the overall rating was warning me to stay home. It's late on a Saturday and we pull up to a FULL allotment of spaces and a valet parking sign pointing down an alley to the rear. I see a few spaces in front of an adjacent business which happened to be closed. Sure the sign said no parking except for those customers... but there was no one there. I figured I'd take my chances. We get out and walk a few doors over to Genki when this valet guy demands I pay him for that space. I said that's not even part of this property and he says ALL the spaces on this city block are theirs. "Really?" I say. "Because that sounds like a scam to me." I refuse to pay him and he threatens to call the police. I say "go right ahead", and he tells me to ask the manager inside if those spaces are valet. So I do. Genki's manager indeed tells me they are in charge of all the spaces along this city block and at this point I am fit to be tied. I mean crazy upset. What kind of crap is this! I hate coming into the city of Atlanta sometimes because some businesses try to GET YOU for everything!!!! This VALET policy makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me... but I went outside and paid the guy anyway. I'm glad he didn't give me any attitude because I was seriously in fight mode. I try very hard to see everything objectively, so when something strikes me as unfair, I am ready to take it on. What kind of businesses thinks it's fair to their customers to charge for EVERY available parking space. This isn't a fine dining (or even popular) establishment, and many of those places don't practice this ridiculous scam. Not one space as far as my eye could see was available to simply park your car. Looking on both sides of the street, all you see are guys waiting to charge you money for parking. Why would I EVER return here! THE FOOD Anyway, I ordered the egg rolls as Liz recommended along with the shrimp fried rice and calamari for our boys. Here's how it stacks up: *Shrimp Fried Rice (2/5) - tasted burnt. The shrimp were large and it came piping hot, but that's about as good as it got. The kids spit the rice out citing "It's nasty" and only opted to eat the shrimp. * Calamari (1/5) - Was cooked too crispy. The flavor of the calamari was completely lost in the bland tempura style batter and had no moisture to it's meat. It was like a thick rubber band. *Chicken Egg Roll (2.5/5) - While the size of these rolls matters, the satisfaction was just not there. I couldn't really taste any ingredient that I recognized while sampling this dish. And what happened to the days when bean sprouts were an ingredient in egg rolls? I also didn't like the Teriyaki dipping sauces,. If I had to choose, the green one was better than the plain. Otherwise, these rolls failed on a number of different levels for me. It is also worth mentioning that our table was grimy to the touch and two of our plates had visible remains of food. THE VERDICT Failed. Wouldn't come back if it was a free Elite Yelp event! My trip to the city today cost $41 with tax, tip and the $5 valet charge for subpar food. I call the adjacent business (where I parked) the following Tuesday to see if they had a deal with valet for their parking spaces. They also confirmed the spaces are for valet use. I can't knock them for wanting to make a profit on the lack of parking spaces for nearby restaurants, but it seems that Genki or any reputable business would allow the few spaces in front of their business to be free, but WHATEVER. I won't be back.

I have dined at the Genki restaurant in Buckhead and the one in the Prado. During the Buckhead visit, I ordered the salad with ginger dressing and a rice bowl with salmon. During the Prado visit I ordered the salad with ginger dressing and a rice bowl with chicken. My fellow diners ordered a variety of dishes, including sushi, rice bowls and salads. I found the rice bowls to be very tasty and filling - I would order these again. The ginger dressing on the salad is bitter and the salad portion is skimpy - I would skip this. The sushi eaters were very happy with their meals. Genki is a bit pricy - dinner for 4 with 2 glasses of wine totaled almost $100. The service was good. Both locations featured music - the Buckhead location had a DJ who seemed somewhat ignored but who played very, very loud. The Prado location featured a live singer who was good. All in all, an above-average, if pricy, noodle and sushi house that serves good food.

When I first came in to Genki I was expecting to find your typical run of the mill Chinese restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised to find anything but! The interior is laid back, which isn't typical for Buckhead. The patio in the front was very inviting but too hot to sit outside considering we came in July. The back patio was still under construction but looked cute with the lights and candles so I can only imagine how fun it is for late night. The bar was at the front door and spanned the restaurant, making it a great focal point. The drink menu had some drinks I've never heard of but was tempted to try. We ordered the egg rolls as a starter and what we got were 2 huge coke can sized eggs rolls cut in half with a delicious teriyaki sauce that was delicious. The rolls had fresh, crunchy veggies and cabbage inside. For our entrees, I ordered the chicken fried rice and my man friend ordered what I can only describe as the BBQ noodle bowl. The rice was light and fluffy, the chicken was fresh and there was a lot of it. I was surprised by the amount of vegetables in the fried rice. I thought I'd leave hungry but I couldn't even finish half of the bowl. My man friend got the BBQ chicken noodle bowl and it had a tangy BBQ sauce flavor. Definitely an interesting plate but Genki made it work! I got a few bites of it and the thick noodles with the sauce, chunks of chicken and onion were a great combination that I will try next time. Overall, I enjoyed Genki and look forward to going back. If not for the fried rice than for the amazing egg rolls and teriyaki sauce that I dream about!

When I worked at Genki in 2010-2011, the "back patio" was a dimly lit metal staircase that staff used to get to our cars in the back parking lot, take a quick phone call or take out trash. Wow, was I surprised yesterday to see what's there now! To keep a level playing field with the changes of their neighboring bars/restaurants, Genki built a lovely back patio. Wood, nice railing, a good amount of seating. I met one of my former managers there for a bit yesterday and was impressed with the changes! The front patio has always been popular but since it's right on the street, can be a little noisy or too . . . something. He had sake and some sushi - one of his regular orders, the yummy Reid Roll which I endorse - and I had a glass of wine since I'd just come from lunch. Got to see Stephen, one of my old coworkers and a great bartender if you go by, and catch up with an old friend. If you're in Buckhead and in a patio mood, now you have another and improved option!

Haven't been in a while and remember why now. Slow service. I was the only one in the restaurant and it took 15 minutes for my edamame. When it came out, there was hair in it. When they brought the second bowl out, it only took 5 min so I wonder if it was fresh. THEN they had the nerve to charge me. The sushi wasn't fresh and I won't be back again.

Not much to like about this place. First off, we bought a deal to dine here. It was our fault that we missed the fine print that we couldn't eat there for lunch. But when we returned for dinner that same day, we were saddened to realize that the same spot we parked in earlier now had a $5 parking charge. Lame! In addition, there is almost no space for parking, regardless of if you come for lunch or dinner. When we had come earlier for lunch, we had to wait for a car to leave before we could park because there is only about 5 spots for parking, in addition to being next to a busy street, making it difficult to back out when you're leaving as well. Ordinarily we would've left upon discovering the $5 parking fee, but since we already bought the deal, we bit our lips and paid. Once we were seated, we learned that there was a limited menu that we could order from using the deal. Most places I've been to do not enforce such limits. The food itself was mediocre. Even with the deal, I thought we overpaid for what we had there. Needless to say, the restaurant no longer exists in our minds.

Never really busy. Usually only one or two poor waiters taking care of everyone's needs. Tip them, because they are doing a lot. Certain times of day is valet parking. Dislike this because most valet are sub human (speaking from experience in that line of work). They make a really great tiger shrimp! Positives and negatives people, positives and negatives.
I have been coming to Genki for years and my last visit was less than great.. I'm almost upset writing this.. So I will continue, with heavy heart... They used to offer a small cup of noodles with a yummy brown sauce as a little free-bee before you order but they don't anymore. The noodles are still super delish and served with sesame seeds on top, but our server forgot I ordered them, no biggie--I reminded him and enjoyed them in a to go box after we left. I usually order the super crunch with crab instead of salmon but the last time I had it I was underwhelmed, but still happy. This time we ordered edamame which you basically can't screw up, it was good--then calamari which is flaky and crispy. Portion is large for the price but it's almost too filling as an appetizer. So here's why the three stars now... I ordered actual sashimi and nigiri this time which Ive never done here, and I was so severely disappointed. It wasn't good grade tuna and an almost gritty texture. I honestly couldn't eat it. It was such a let down.. I was actually thrilled I had a Groupon because I don't return food and I would've have a more sour attitude if I paid a $60 tab without it.. Just meh :/ I'm so sorry guys!

Well...I'm a sushi snob. I'll start by saying that. I've been spoiled by the best tasting sushi, so when I go to other places...I tend to judge harshly. The first issue is parking. You have valet only and it is $5. That's not the issue because there isn't anywhere to park otherwise. The issue is that if you aren't driving slow enough you'll miss it! The main issue was the service here. Sooooooooo slow!!! Took 8 to 10 minutes for our server to even drop by to say hello. We were ready to order when he came by. Sushi wasn't bad at all. Wish I could remember what we ordered! Def not the best and def not the worst. Good place to hang out with friends on a social drinking night. It's a little crammed, but it's more of a trendy, low key atmosphere. I wouldn't venture back, but that's because I don't live here and would rather try other sushi places.

Used to be good...not any more. Bad experience at Virginia Highland, stayed with this first location. But This time waitress quit half way though service, was overcharged, rolls have gotten tiny. Lots of little stuff that at $150$ should have been right!

I love the sushi here. It's always so fresh that I'm encouraged to try new things. Mostly get the Chicken Katsu and it's delicious and very filling. Depending on when you visit, parking could be scarce, so call ahead and see, but definitely eat here.

The food and atmosphere are ALWAYS on point. Been a customer for 10+ years! Yeah the parking is a bitch as it is all over Atlanta. Get over it!

I'm deducting a star for something they have zero control over: their abysmal parking. The only option was the $5 valet nearby, unless you luck into one of the few parking spaces in front The food was stellar. We had a Groupon, so we had a prix-fix meal with 2 apps, 2 entrees, & 2 desserts. We started with some cheese things (Cheese kari kari) & the chicken egg roll. DO NOT MISS THE CHEESE KARI KARI. I think these little nuggets are some of the best things I've ever eaten. Then for entrees we had 2 non-memorable things. The for dessert we had tempura oreos (!) & some strawberry napoleon thing. I'm a big fan of deep fried anything, so I loved the Oreos. To top it off, our server, Micheal, I think, was so helpful & friendly! He really made that a great dining experience. Definitely ask for him if you go to this location.

We got Reid as our waiter on a decently busy Friday night. He was fantastic and so was the food. Expect to spend $15-22 depending on appetite if ordering rolls. Got a Sapporo, the Reid roll, and the Virginia Highland roll-- all very good. If I was local I'd be a regular.

Ok valet parking situation NOT their fault. It's Buckhead and traffic/parking is always a pain in the butt. Nice selection of sushi and bowls. Helpful waitstaff, really good deserts! Small, kinda hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. You can pay whatever you want here (little or lots) and get a good meal.

Usually I'm a pretty tough critic but this place surprised me. I came here with a friend and we had a quite pleasant dinner. Initially, I was skeptical because this place looks kind of hole-in-the-wall-esque. I mean, it's right next to a place called "The Dive Bar"... Anyways, we were seated immediately and our waiter was very attentive. I had to chuckle while perusing the drink menu as the names were quite witty. I ended up with some pink, fruity martini. It was horribly weak, probably the worst part of the dining experience. We had their fixed menu, which I guess was some Groupon deal or something. We each got to choose an appetizer, sushi roll, and dessert. I got the edamame and my friend got the fried crab cheese thingies (I don't remember the name). Both were very delicious. We also got little mini-bowls of noodles with a yummy teriyaki type sauce. I'm not much of a noodle eater but I finished it off in no time flat. For dinner I got their crunchy roll and he got the rainbow roll. The crunchy roll had just the right amount of batter and the rainbow roll had very fresh fish as well as a good fish/rice ratio. Also, the rolls were huge in terms of pieces. Each roll must have had 12-14 pieces. Dessert was really yummy, unexpectedly. I had deep fried oreos for the first time in my life and I must admit, it was terribly good. The other dessert was a twist on strawberry shortcake with wonton chips instead of cake. Both were served with vanilla ice cream. It was plain old, out of the carton, ice cream but this place is a sushi restaurant, how could you expect more? Overall, it was alright. It could have been worse, could have been better.

The only thing I really dont like about this place is that there is ALWAYS a long wait OR the service is slow. Other than that, the food is good, as well as the drinks!

Love, Love, Love! Must try the Float Away: St. Germain, Champage, lemon and a strawberry. Their egg rolls are yummy and its a large portion so its great for sharing. I always order their rice bowl which is plenty. The Valet parking would be the only negative. You have to pay $5 for your car to be parked directly in front of you. Once, they simply hit my clicker then handed me the keys and I had to pay $5.

Was shopping at target when I got a sudden craving for sushi. I picked my little smartphone and searched for the nearest sushi restaurant and lo and behold there was one in the very same shopping plaza as the target. Now typically Im weary of restaurants held in a shopping center (bad prior experience) but I was in a forgiving mood that day. Walked in and first thing I noticed is the large fish tanks and lime green decor. Nice touch. Sat at the bar since I was solo-dolo'n it up that day. Ok, I always get scared when a sushi menu comes out... with sushi its much like trial and error unless you grew up on it. I didn't, soooo I tend to stick to the "safe side" and not stray away from what I usually get. Although im not a virgin to sushi, I'm not a expert on it either. I always get the super crunch (name tends to vary depending on the restaurant but you know the roll that comes with fried with smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese and aoili sauce) yea that one. Decided to go with this one b/c its usually hard to mess up and well ya know once you've had one crunch roll you've had em all. My super crunch came out and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely fried to perfection. The presentation of the plate was very done as well. Since my first visit I came here again and gave it a second go round. This time I ordered the calamari for appetizer and mojitos as well. Calamari here was one of the best I've ever had and the mojitos were very strong and well prepared!

You ever ate asian food that seemed like it was made at the food court in the mall- you know the first few bites are good and then it tast like blah. Well that is Genki - the first few bites. One good thing about this place was the ummmmmmm. well the waitress was cool

I have loved this place since the first one opened in Buckhead and I was not disappointed when I recently went back for some sushi and a noodle bowl. We even decided to take everything to go since we had our dog with us...everything was so fresh and perfect!! I loved how the server even came out to the car to say hello and meet our dog...now that is just southern hospitality at its best!! Such a great place to go on a date or with a group of friends. With several locations, you can't go wrong!!

I went with a friend to try out Genki again recently. Now I had significant misgivings about this place because of the terrible quality fish I have had there. My friend agreed to try just two orders of sashimi and if they were bad quality fish, then we would live and either go to Taka or Tomo. We left and went to Tomo. Genki is just not good quality people. I know Atlanta is a touch sushi market, but if you think Genki is good sushi then you really need to get out more.

Cool atmosphere, hip crowd, DJ spinning tunes. Unfortunately, the sushi is way overpriced (c',mon, what happened to BOGO deals?!) To be fair, the sushi was really good... I loved my rainbow roll and the two other random rolls we got. Seaweed salad was awesome but got a paltry serving size. If money was no object, I would probably love coming here regularly and jacking up a $40 sushi bill (yes, it takes 3-4 rolls to fill up this belly). We didn't have to wait on a Saturday night around 8pm which was definitely a bonus- where else can you find that? Overall, not a bad place to come pre-going out or maybe for lunch. I probably won't frequent here often because of the cost, but otherwise not a bad local spot. Also, good service despite a busy saturday night.

My favorite sushi place in town. Large selection. Noodle bowls are good. Love the edamame. The atmosphere is young and trendy. Great weeknight place or weekend days can be great on the deck. A little pricey but service and food has been more than satisfactory for me.

I wanted to try a new sushi place and this one was right down the street from me so I thought I'd give it a go! All in all this place was ok. The sushi quality is about ru'sans quality and about half the menu looks like its been ripped off from them. The place is really small, crowded and noisy. Our waitress seemed to keep getting 'lost' and wasn't very friendly and she got our bill mixed up with someone else's. If you want sushi for that price there are much better places in town..... like Zuma or Thaicoon.

I really wish I could give 3.5 stars on this one. Genki's not perfect but it's not nearly as bad as the reviews make it out to be. Yes, the parking sucks horribly. No, I don't come here for the sushi. But their bowls are delicious. My favorite is the katsu chicken and white rice; I'm not sure what kind of sauce they use but it's addicting. The bowls are also a really good value. One is enough for two people to split, and depending on how fancy you get with the ingredients, it will be somewhere around $15. For two servings of food that's pretty good. For those of you who are vegetarian they offer vegetable or tofu versions of the bowls as well. Bottom line: bring a friend. Split a bowl, split the $5 for parking, and you've got yourself a great meal deal.

I'm incredibly sad about not liking this place. You see, I really wanted to like this place! I love the concept of their menu and the fact that you can build noodle bowls (they have soba!) and the fact that this is a Japanese place in Buckhead. It had to be good - no? We bought a groupon or living social or one of those deals. I guess we didn't read the fine print because it was only supposed to be used for dinner. We were already at the restaurant for lunch and they wouldn't let us use it. We came back on a Saturday night and were charged $5 for valet parking since there is simply NO free parking (for lunch there are approx 3 spots in the front for you to fight for). The parking situation is abysmal and it is unbelievable that they don't even offer to validate for parking. Regardless, we paid the $5 since we were already there. Since we had the deal we had to order off a standard menu which I was sad about because I really wanted to try the noodle bowls! Regardless, we got a few items on the menu which looked good. Unfortunately most of the items were small and disappointing. The chicken katsu came with raw cabbage - no sauce, just cabbage. The beef thing was okay and edamame was fine (not the best I've had). The Japanese salad was perhaps the worst I've had in my life. Overall, we were pretty disappointed with this place. It's one thing to pay for parking for a place you love but to pay for parking and then have an unsatisfying meal is a deal breaker for me. Sorry Genki, your servers are nice but your food is not and I will not be back.

Pros: Good sushi rolls Moving on: Cons: You can find a better selection of beers literally right next door (at the Lost Dog Tavern) for a WAY cheaper price tag. I ordered a drink off the table standee and the bartender charged me incorrectly. Sushi as I said in the above, was good. But good doesn't mean you get to charge an arm and a leg. I've had plenty of good sushi in my life and for their pricing, I expected more. I was actually disappointed. Will not be going back. Plenty of other eateries around town.

My sister (15 years older and buckhead local) turned me on to Genki here when I was still in middle school. At the time my unseasoned palate had not developed an appreciation for sushi so I always ordered the edamame and some type of chicken bowl. These meals were just mediocre but I loved the atmosphere of both Genki & Yakatori which used to be combined. Around my second or third visit, I discovered their cheese kari kari. Still to date, this is one of my favorite appetizers in Atlanta. Full of flavor, this rich 6 piece serving is great to share with a friend while you melt in your seat with happiness. Now a self proclaimed sushi addict, I've branched out to try many of the rolls and other items on the Genki menu. Good portions, but the flavor of most is just so so. Add some sriracha for flavor. Typically I'll grab and rainbow or super crunch roll and they are always good. The service at this Genki location is always better for me than that of the other two new sister restaurants (in the Prado and the Highlands). Skip the Prado location if you can - the ingredients never seem as fresh and the service has been poor for me here many times. It isn't the best representation of what Genki has to offer. A good night at Genki for me - Genki Buckhead or Highlands. A Sapporo and some sake, cheese kari kari and a fresh rainbow roll. Yum!

Spent the better part of an afternoon munching on a variety of great sushi... it was after lunch on a Friday so the place was pretty empty, and we had almost a private dining room which we ended up filling with laughter. The most memorable item was the Pokerface... Strong recommend.

I love this Genki. It is way better than the VA Highlands one. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is trendy, they have a great patio and they play great music, with a live DJ on the weekends. Great menu with tons to choose from. My favorite rolls are the "i love sushi", "super crunch roll" and "dynamite roll" but I haven't had one that i don't like.

I've always liked Genki. A recent lunch with Carrie Neal W. at the Buckhead location brought back memories of my single-and-living-in-Atlanta days, going out on the town with my girlfriends. Genki was often on the evening agenda, a convenient and hip spot for a group to "pre-game" before heading over to Churchill's/5P/Pool Hall/McDuff's. Oh, the nostalgia. It doesn't even matter if you don't like sushi. There are plenty of other things on the menu to whet your appetite, such as the grilled beef, chicken, and shrimp rice bowl or a variety of entree salads. I myself am not a sushi lover, but the Genki Tuna was out of sight! The perfect combination of textures and flavors - and that spicy Ponzu sauce was so delicious I think I might have double dipped!

This place is overpriced. The fish is anything but fresh. The reliance upon mayonnaise based sauces to mask this fact is humorous. What is not humorous, however, is paying $12 for a six piece roll. You'd be better off eating a raw tuna steak at home.

I have been here twice - regrettably and both times the place is empty. I know why it's empty...because of A) parking sucks, B) sushi, all the rolls I've tried sucked, the chef is on his phone at the bar without any shame for being so unprofessional and unsanitary. The seating arrangement/decor is the only positive this place has because the noodles were also bad. my friends who came did not like their food and this place is NOT cheap. There was a ROACH on our table and they insisted it was ''just a bug'' seriously? there's a reason they ALWAYS have groupons. i lost my craving for sushi for a week after this awful experience.

1 star and that's only because I can't give a negative score! I decided to choose Genki for my wife's birthday sense she loves Sushi and she loves wine so why not go to a Sushi Restaurant that has "Wine Wednesday". Strike 1 WRONG the I think the Wine is intended for the customer. I booked a reservation for a booth and showed up and they had no seating available at any booths! The hostess stated as she fondled through her clipboard of nothingness, "See we don't do reservations" ERRRR So i decided to be a little optimistic and make the best of the night by heading to the bar while I waited the 20 mins for one to be available. Strike 2 The wife asked the bartender what bottle he preferred and once he gave his preference she wanted a sample but they dint do samples (so we thought) 5 secs later the individuals adjacent to us had a sample poured into their glass! Booth becomes available so I closed out my tab. Strike 3 The Hostess walks up to my wife and states, "that's your booth over there" and points to it. No walking her to her table, no your server will be with you momentarily...Just it's there! I Politely asked the waiter to try to make this night better and reminded them that its my wife's birthday (which when i made my reservation THEY asked me if there was a special occasion and stated they do a special dish on birthdays) Strike 4 Waited...waited...waited...and waited more for our sushi to come out after we had our appetizers (which the calamari wasn't the best but it was good) So much of me wanted to get up and go to RuSan's bc the customer service but I truly believe that only a sushi restaurant can turn a mood around completely (wrong again!) Strike 5 Check came out and as I started to give 15% like i normally do (I'm forgiving...maybe too forgiving) I notice the bill had gratuity added....so i crossed out the my tip and the total and left them with nothing and almost left my Fried cheesecake bc i was so pissed. So moral of the story...just bc a restaurant talks a big game and has a location full of restaurants with high end service doesn't mean their service will be the same. As my wife simply put it. Just do your job! P.S. RuSans will definitely be my primary choice for sushi....everytime I go their the Waitress/waiter ensures the wife and I have a great time. i.e SAKE...BOMB....SAKE....BOMB...SAKE...BOOOMMMMB! lol if you don't know go to RuSans and ask about it!

I guess I hadn't seen recent reviews, so ended up there for lunch today. I'm giving a star for the green tea, which was made with matcha and was absolutely delicious. At least they got one thing right. This place is not authentic Japanese and the food is not good. The sushi "chefs" speak Spanish, they have Vietnamese hot sauce on the table and they served a strange spaghetti with Tonkatsu sauce when we sat down. No bento, they have some lunch special that is half a roll and soup. That might work for those strange people that don't eat, but when I go out to a restaurant, I want some food! I ended up mooching from my daughter's tonkatsu, because my sushi was pretty bad, but her food was more breading than meat, and tough. As for the renovation, I couldn't figure out if the bamboo glued to the wall was cool or lame. The overall feeling is very hallway... I don't know what it is about sushi lunch in Buckhead and ladies who talk about Botox and other facial experiments, but I always end up at a table near Housewives of Atlanta wannabees. "You look great! Those brown spots are completely gone!" Really, people? Is that the best you have?

A friend of mine suggested Genki for a meeting last night and I was... underwhelmed. It was nice that there wasn't loud music going, and the other patrons weren't wild and crazy, but the parking was a total pain (I'm from Decatur, we're second only to Buckhead in regards to painful parking) and I'm not sure it was worth it... First off, I'm not entirely sure what the valet cost; my friend was kind enough to take care of it since I didn't have cash. We may have pain in the butt parking here in Decatur, but at least ours is park for free you just have to walk a quarter mile kind of parking-- that I can live with! I thought the dude said $5 when I got out of the car, but there wasn't any indication on the valet sign of whether it was paid or complimentary. I will say that my complaint was not with the food-- the food was solid, but not exceptional. I'd put it just above Ru San's, which made my sticker shock even more extreme. But, the sashimi was decent and the roll was edible. The only complaint I had about the spicy tuna roll was that it was. not. spicy. I ended up drenching it in Siracha to get a little extra kick! My major complaint was with the service. We got there at 7 and ordered by 7:15; we didn't get our food until just at or just after 8 and we didn't order a ton of stuff. Two rolls, three types of sashimi, and a ginger salad. Our waiter was nice enough, but a little flaky (he may have also been the bartender?) and informed us that our food was running behind because of a large pickup order that had been called in. I'm sorry-- we've been sitting here for almost an hour because someone who didn't bother coming in wanted food? They bought us each a glass of wine, but even that took forever getting there! I am honestly not one of those people who complains about a little time; K and I were there to meet and talk out a lot of things and we sat there with no problem for 2 hours, but I was STARVING and to find out that a to go order was holding up my food just seemed ridiculous to me. I probably won't try it again-- it's expensive and that wait really turned me off. I'd much rather go to Sushi Avenue for an authentic go at it or Ru San's if I want something cheap and easy.

I'm about to break one of the guy code cardinal rules: publicly identifying a place where there's an extreme imbalance of attractive, single ladies to guys. I'm talking a legit 70/30 split. There should be a whiplash warning on the tables. I can't say I've seen anything like it for a run-of-the-mill unspectacular venue. To restore some of my integrity, let it be known that I am an NYC resident and would never put such an under the radar "gift" on public blast in my home city... ...but I have no such allegiances to Atlanta so deal with it. I don't even get WHY the women flock to this place. It's not a terribly cool venue. It's not in a hot location (wedged in a nondescript strip mall of bars.) The sushi is suitable but nothing special. The outdoor area is enjoyable but facing an active firehouse it isn't exactly scenic (or peaceful.) Yet every time I looked up, a new group of beauties was setting up shop. In NYC you'd need to drop $550 on a bottle of Goose to get anything close to this kind of experience. I'll drop three stars on this place to keep it semi-under-the-radar...so enjoy, while it lasts.

The rolls were falling apart on the plate, the quality of fish is really low. Don't go here for sushi.

The Genki experience began in 2003, the old location surrounded but night clubs & bars.........a close friend of mine suggested dinner before heading off to the Savoy. I ordered some sushi, but I went back a few times to try the seafood bowl which consisted of shrimp, white fish, tuna, mussels, salmon and surimi.........with soba noodles..........Incredible dish.....I ordered this same dish at least once a month or when ever I visit Genki. Grand service, friendly people back in the old days.........but now things are a little different........not so nice & friendly, but the seafood bowl is still............Super LUSH

Looking for a sushi spot to call my own.....and I'm still looking :-/ This place was recommended by a coworker due for the food and location (close to work), we didn't see the harm in giving it a try. Funny thing though, is I didn't have any sushi.....but I did have some raw fish. Hawaiian Style Ahi Poke to be exact, which actually explains why "I've experienced better". The meal itself was pretty expensive considering their usual lunch entree options for almost half the price. The portion size though, was double the size of their lunch specials...so on that front, they were pretty generous. What made me not want to order this meal again was....well, I've lived in Hawaii for 4 years and my mom still lives there now. Suffice it to say, this was no ahi poke. The fish itself tasted fresh and had a good color to it. The rice was nice and sticky...but ahi poke? Nope, try again. Ahi poki is not spicy, and it was lacking in onions and shoyu (better known as soy sauce). In all seriousness, this was like spicy tuna on a bed of rice minus the creamy texture to the sauce. Would I go back? Probably. The fish was still fresh, the restaurant clean, and the prices decent for lunch in Buckhead. Would I order this dish again? Nope. It's not what it is, and they really need to change it's name on the menu to reflect that.

I just now see Lauren S's review from Nov--too bad I didn't read it earlier!!!! I echo her review 1000%. ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE!!!! Valet parking is mandatory @ $5, no matter what anyone says!!! Waiting for service is like pulling your hair out. We waited 10 minutes before our "server" took our drink order and then another 15 minutes before he brought it out (we saw he brought out 3 other tables drinks at the same time, though we were the first of those tables seated). Food wait was another disaster. However, I will say the food was good. Mahi mahi bowl @ $15, and mixed seafood bowl @ $17 were both good. Wine was $9.50/glass and draft beer another $5-6. Will I go back...no way Jose!!!!! There are way too many options for food just as good (or better) with a smile, prompt service and no attitude, like they're doing you a favor.

Nothing at Genki stood out as great, but it's certainly not the worst sushi I've had in town. The food doesn't come anywhere close to screaming anything authentic Japanese (having traveled to Japan recently and eating some real ramen noodles). The cost was for sure unreasonable for the quality of the food, but we received good and friendly service. I won't be taking a second trip to Genki.

I creatively planned my flight from Phoenix to Aruba so that I had a layover in Atlanta... and not just a few hour layover; I had an entire night in Atlanta! My Phoenix flight arrived around 5:45, and my Atlanta-Aruba flight didn't leave until the next morning, so what did I do? I called my girlfriends to have a girls' night out! And where did we go? Genki! Recently renovated and re-opened, Genki is still a happening Buckhead hot spot. I've spent many a night at Genki over the past 10 years or so (I lived in ATL for eight years before moving to PHX). During my visits, I've eaten plenty of sushi, specialty noodle and rice bowls, and edamame... and I've had my fair share of wine as well. Genki is an oldie but a goodie... an old standby if you must. Perfect for girls night, dates, or even sitting solo at the bar. I was happy to see that the menu hadn't changed much. On my recent visit, I started with a glass of "La Crema" pinot noir as did one of my friends... the other had a glass of pinot grigio. Two of us at bowls and one went for sushi. I chose the seafood bowl with brown rice, and while I requested extra veggies, I don't know that they honored my request. I was happy nonetheless... the food is not amazing, but it's above average, especially if you enjoy Asian flavors. Depending on how much you drink, it can get pricey, but the food is moderately priced... my bowl was $15.95 I think, add a $12 glass of wine or two, tax, tip, and it's easily a $40 meal. Add valet parking + tip, and you're at $50 easily. Even so, it's worth it. For me, Genki will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope it stays around for a long time to come.

Over-priced for the little food actually provided. Parking is a nightmare, the waitstaff (and manager) are so rude and unobliging. I'm never going back,

The atmosphere is cool. The hostess was rude and acted like she didn't want to seat us because it was 10:30pm and they close at 11:00pm. Even though it was just my wife and I. The waitress was great. But the food, WELL OVERPRICED! The noodle bowl we ordered just wasn't very tasty at all. Sucks because it would cost us $20. We also got the Large seaweed salad. We were thinking it would be pretty big due to the $9 price tag......not so much. Don't get me wrong, the SW salad was good, but not very much of it for $9. Then we received our spicy tuna roll. Did not taste fresh at all. Tasted like it just came out of the fridge. Not even sure how much the roll was, but I'm sure it was high....everything else here is. Bottom line, this place is not worth the money. There is much better out there.

My boyfriend took me here for a celebration dinner (we both love sushi) and I am a fan! I love that the place is not at all pretentious even though it is in Buckhead. We were there on a weeknight, so it wasn't very crowded and we had excellent service. The rolls were wonderful, but the portabella mushroom appetizer stole the show - wow! Crispy spinach leaves topped with juicy portabellos = yummy :) I will definitely return.

I liked Genki before it closed, and now it's reopened. Now that's located one door down where the patio is, I don't know if that's why the parking situation was confusing. I first drove in the right side, where valet used to be, but it was a pay-park-yourself side, and the left side was the valet. Overall, it was fine, but just beware you might park in a valet spot where you may be blocked in. FOOD: First, we had the edamame, chicken egg rolls, and gyoza(fried). The egg rolls may be a tad bland, so you may want to have it with the wasabi dip that it comes with. Next, we had sushi rolls: spicy tuna, spiderman, olympic, rainbow, florida, super crunch, and kamikaze. I wasn't too fond of the spicy tuna and florida. Maybe the other rolls were delicious that the two didn't compare. The spiderman is huge so you may want to take 2-3 bites or take it apart. The kamikaze and super crunch were my favorite. TIP: The downstairs could seat bigger parties and it has a full bar with a TV.

Small rolls. Poor seafood/fish. Was not impressed...but I guess I shouldn't be too shocked. Its located between a bunch of bars and open until like 2am? I guess we are in atlanta, not exactly close to the ocean.

Worst restaurant experience ever. This was a while back, maybe last spring. Went in with a friend and ordered two bowls of glass noodles. I don't remember what the flavor was even supposed to be. We took a couple of bites of each dish and told our server how bad it was and his response was "well you ate it" and he walked away. After sitting at our table dumbfounded and figuring out what to do we spotted someone at the register who appeared to be the manager , so we mentioned the terrible food to him. He gave us a full refund, but while doing so tried to explain that we just weren't familiar with glass noodles and next time we'd want to get something more common, like the Ramen. Dude...you have no idea what I know about food and even if I knew nothing about food, it's not supposed to taste like a slimy bowl of farts. Thanks.

With it being very cold we wanted some (non Southern) comfort food in the Buckhead area so we dropped into Genki since I have heard good things about their noodle bowls. Big mistake. We ordered the following dishes: 1. Make your own bowl: Broth + Udon + Beef 2. Katsu Chicken Curry. The "Make your own bowl" came out as: Stirfried udon noodles with beef. When we let our waitress know, we received a response that was basically "Quick fix- we'll just add broth to it." Really? Adding broth to something that was stirfried in a lot of oil will make it a soup? I was extremely dissatisfied with the results which was basically a bowl of (everything) greasy. The broth was very heavy and the whole dish turned into the equivalent of Chinese mall beef and broccoli (which I would have rather had) flavored noodles and broth. I would not suggest ordering this dish and I find it hard to have the want to go back to this place as the curry dish tasted as if though the sauce was emptied from a can. We did not finish the dishes and quickly grabbed coffees to break away the uneasiness in our stomachs.

Do you crave Mexican made "Japanese" food? Do you love ramen noodles smothered in liquid smoke? How about steak-umms over glass noodles? If so, then Genki is the place for you. Enjoy the pretentious staff, overpriced drinks, and general disgustingness that is Genki. The raw sushi counter was placed only a few feet from the hot grill. Red flag number one. The place had the smell of bad fish. Red flag number two (and the reason my friend and I didn't order anything raw). All the sashimi and hand rolls coming out were covered in some strange brown sauce. Red flag number three. I know, I know, we should have left at this point. Only reason we didn't is because we'd been told Buckhead is the must-go place in Atlanta, and we'd spent over an hour in a cab getting there. In sum: I cannot understand why this place was jam packed when I visited, or why people were RAVING about how great it is. In my opinion, this is the WORST "Japanese" restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of patronizing.

I spent 18 years in Japan so I am familiar with real Japanese food . I only tried the noodles here but I can tell you...it ain't Japanese. Not even close. I thought about Sushi but all the sushi chefs were Hispanic. Nothing wrong with that except when I want Japanese food I expect it to be prepared by a Japanese who understands the thought behind the cuisine. In Japan it takes a true sushi chef about 20 years to be considered master chefs. Since sushi's a Japanese cuisine I expected at least one experienced Japanese chef making sushi at the prices they were charging. I ordered the Udon noodles with Shrimp thinking they can't possibly mess up Udon. After all any local Asian market sells pretty good quality Udon noodles. Well, I was wrong. First of all, the soup was loaded vegetables sauteed in grease and dumped on top of the soup just for the visuals. The vegetables were wilted, chewy, and greasy. Typical Japanese udon would just have negi (green onions) and maybe some shitake mushrooms. Nabeyaki Udon would maybe have some Nappa, mushroom, and chicken. The vegetables they used were cabbage, carrots, and zucchini. What was most disappointing though was the noodles itself. Instead of using the traditional glutenous rice noodles they used Spaghetti noodles...WHAT!!!! There is absolutely nothing authentic about the garbage. Soup tasted like Campbell's beef broth. Imagine putting cooked spaghetti in beef broth and dumping fried vegetables on top. The presentation was good but the taste was awful. Since I paid $12 for this nasty concoction, I tried to force it in my mouth the best I can. Needless to say, couldn't finish half of it. One sign of a good ethnic restaurant is to look to see how many nationals you can find in the restaurant eating the food. At Genki I found none. In short Genki tries hard to be trendy-nouveau but fail on what's most important to a epicurean - TASTE!

This is the first place I've been to that has consistently bad reviews-- I was sort of expecting to have a great experience and not understand all the hating on this place, but it's actually pretty accurate. I will say that, unlike a lot of you guys, I had great service-- that's why I'm giving 2 stars. pretty sure the manager was taking care of us, and she was actually attentive and friendly. but the sushi just wasn't very good, it wasn't even rolled very well, and the place leaves a lot to be desired. it's just sort of a dive, and not sure why you'd choose to go there when there are so many cooler places around...

I have a rule about "foreign" themed restaurants....I need to see people from that country eating (and working) at the establishment. I despise "Americanized" versions of foreign food concepts. If I wanted that I would go to a chain. So, when I walked into Genki, I applied my usual rule. And they failed on both accounts. It was a busy Friday night and I saw no Japanese people (or Asian for that matter) dining there....and the dudes making sushi were speaking Spanish! I thought their vegan options were minimal (for a Japanese restaurant) and the dishes I tried were lacking flavor and presentation. The dining space was a mediocre place to eat their mediocre food. vaya aqui para la comida japonesa que los japoneses no comen.

I always get the same thing. Fried tofu bowl with white rice and stir fried veggies..and it is GOOD. Their chicken egg rolls are good too. I don't care about it being authentic or not honestly. The place used to be dirty looking and smelled funny inside, but they've upgraded within the past year, so it's gotten better. Service is decent. Good place to go for lunch.

This place is awful and somehow always packed. People say it used to be good, but for the past 2 years it has not been at all. Literally the worst service in atlanta. Ive been here 4 or 5 times for birthday party's etc because friends want to eat here and then go out in buckhead. The location is the only good thing about it. The food is not really Japanese it is like this random mix of things, many of which are fried, and well it is the south... The sushi smells fishy I can not bring myself to even try it there. The noodle bowls lack flavor and again its like a waffle house version of what noodle soup would be, also no bento box's for lunch...im just not impressed with this place at all. I wouldn't go there if it were of my own volition.

Wonderful little gem in Virginia Highlands. Food was scrumptuous(I highly recommend the Japanese Curry Chicken bowl), staff was warm and friendly, and prices were moderate. I'll be frequenting this place for sure.

I'm Japanese...and I find this place offensive. Other than the name of the place (which means healthy BTW), this restaurant is nowhere close to being Japanese. It seems like whoever created the menu, simply went to an Asian food market, bought a smorgasbord ingredients, and combined them randomly. The one star is for the quality of the fish they served which was decent at best. Otherwise execution, taste, and service was terrible. I swear to never go back to this wretched place.

I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately there was nothing to like. We stopped in on a very slow afternoon so we were seated immediately. We both ordered the "build your own bowl" which was basically terrible. Neither of us requested broth, but they came out swimming in a pool of bad quality soy sauce. It was overpowering and impossible to really taste the udon noodles. There will be no need to return.

OK I don't see what everyone's big deal with is this "terrible" place, it's not horrible! I've eaten here a couple of times now over the past year and I always have good food/drinks/decent service. Yes they don't have the speediest servers, but it's nice to not be hounded every five minutes. Heaven forbid anyone lets you actually enjoy your meal and company! Whenever I go I usually just stick with the sushi and I've never been disappointed. Tonight my friend and I each got the Super Crunch roll, no qualms when we asked for crab instead of salmon. And it was good...VERY GOOD!! We also ordered the Cheese Kari Kari as an appetizer and I was impressed with those as well. Especially the sweet ginger sauce, if they bottled that, I'd buy it! All in all, this is my go to sushi place in Buckhead. It's dependable, you can usually get a seat with a very little, if any wait, and the food is always good. I would however, recommend somewhere else if you are in a rush!

I have experienced Sushi in Buckhead, Midtown, Highlands and Vinnings and I feel Genki Buckhead is top rated! The food is consistent, the presentation is quality, the prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. They offer a great wine and sake selection as well as a broad range of Japanese and American beers. I highly recommend wine Wednesdays as they have great specials. On the weekends they usually have a DJ mixing up music. Cheers!

First of all, let me start by saying that I understand that the reason one may go to Genki is not for the food. Its obviously for the location, next to a number of dive bars attracting college kids and the Affliction mafia. This isn't my scene, so I went early, hoping to avoid the crowds. The valet is still a flat $5, I had to walk through water from the neighbors jello wresting pit, and the food was flat out horrible. Terrible. AWFUL. How it is possible to have terrible sashimi is beyond me, but the salmon tasted like the yellowtail, which tasted like the tuna. And it was WARM. GROSS!!! The only reason anyone should eat here is if you are either A)drunk B)don't know a think about sushi or C)want to pick up chicks that you would never take home to mother.

Below avg sushi and sides. I got food poisoning from here. Was to expensive for the product they put out there.

I found Genki Sushi's quality is below average. Went to the Buckhead as well as the Prado location. I always seem to ordered Sushi and my BF always goes for cookfood and I always leave with disappointment with the taste and the quality of their food. I've also saw the local news one evening as one of their reporter being an undercover and order sushi from them. The reporter were served the different kind of white fish(cheaper kind) to the reporter but claim that it is the kind that he ordered. They were on the news and the manager refused to comment on that. You can probably do some google on that, it happened in the last 5yrs and since then, you bet that I won't be eating anything from them anymore. Because you ordered and pay for something and they gave you something else without your knowledge because is cheaper. You be the judge on this immoral business ethic.

Not the best sushi I've ever had, but definitely not the worst! I had the Dynamite roll, which was a little too spicy for my taste, but my friend had the Rainbow roll, which was slightly sweet. On a Tuesday night the place was packed, and the atmosphere has definitely gotten a much needed face lift, but it was freezing inside! I will probably go back since it is right down the street from me, but I will probably try one of the rice or noodle dishes next time.

my girlfriend loves this place, thus i am a semi-frequent visitor. i've tried many rolls, but can't seem to find one that i like, or can even finish. i would give the place two stars, but they get one star based purely on the cheese kari-kari appetizer.. which is easily one of the best things you will ever eat. i've also tried the 'build your own bowl', which was not good. these days, i typically just order shrimp fried rice, and it's decent enough. also, not a big fan of the 'trendy' ambiance inside or most of the music choices.. especially when they have a 'live music night', aka generic guy-with-acoustic-guitar-singing-dave-matthews-Âand-other-shitty-covers

Walking into a Sushi place and smelling fish makes me nauseous. I don't know how anyone who likes sushi could like this place. The sushi was reminiscent of the packaged sushi you can buy at a grocery store. O, but it is reasonably priced if that can somehow justify the sub par fish quality. Stick to the noodles and you will be happy. If you want sushi, right down the road is Taka Sushi, little more expensive, but a lot more worth it.

I can see where some of the other reviewers would have been disappointed. Parking is a pain and not free and the service isn't very good. Last time I went, the server spent ten minutes trying to open a bottle of wine and had to get another waiter's help to open it. The server blamed it on the wine key, but it was clearly operator error. We also had to ask more than twice for a second bottle of wine we had already ordered. The sushi came out faster than expected, but I have been here before when it has taken 45 minutes just to get some of the rolls. Positives? There are few... One reviewer mentioned the cheese kari-kari. Those are definitely a good way to start off the meal. Also, some of the rolls are pretty unique. The Yami Yami with yellowtail is one of the better choices. They just finished remodeling the inside, so the place looks a lot nicer than before at least. I think there are definitely better sushi places to visit in Atlanta. I wouldn't waste your time with this one...

First, full disclosure: I work here. I'm going to comment mostly on the food (I've tried most everything in my time working there) and decor, seeing as how I don't need service when I dine! Genki was renovated last year. It is now smaller, but much cleaner and better arranged. The bamboo along the wall on the first floor is a nice touch. I just wish there was a way to have live bamboo. To start - the appetizers. I recommend the Shittake Batayaki, Mussels, and Shiso Escolar above the others. Oh, and something off the menu- the Tiger Shrimp. This is a special from before Genki closed. It is tiger shrimp, guacamole, and chili sauce over wonton chips. So, so good. On to the bowls. I think this is where Genki really shines. I'll admit they are better than Genki's sushi. My two favorites are the Nabeyaki Udon (traditional Japanese soup with shrimp, mushrooms, chicken, spinach, and an egg that cooks in the hot broth) and the Mixed Seafood with Cilantro (Grilled tuna, salmon, crab, calamari, shrimp, and julienne vegetables stir fried in cilantro fish sauce and served over somen noodles - to quote the menu). The "pick-your-own" bowls are big. I recommend splitting one with a friend/date and getting some sashimi to share if you go that route. My two favorites from the sushi rolls - the Spiderman roll and the Genki Tuna. Especially the Genki Tuna - it is tuna lightly seared on the outside, topped with Japanese mayo and sriracha, and served with ponzu sauce. Ask for it extra rare. Stick to the specials. If you want a California roll go to the seafood section at Publix! Finally, dessert. I highly recommend the Bananas Foster. Ask them to serve it with fried icecream. If you get regular icecream the icecream melts mighty quick. One more note - someone on here commented on the lack of Asian chefs. First, Genki doesn't claim to be authentic Japanese. If you look closely you'll notice it describes itself as "Japanese-Western fusion". And then second, it is very common for restaurants of all types to have hispanic chefs and cooks. They're the best - just ask Anthony Bourdain: "Who is the backbone of the American restaurant business?... If you're a chef, manager or owner, you know the answer: Mexicans. Ecuadorians. Salvadoran[s]..." If you dine during the week and a guy with glasses and a Genki t-shirt on brings your food to the table that is me. Say hello!

Music (live) was way too loud: could hardly hear the waiter. Edamame was good but eggroll appetizerr lacked in taste. Sushi was ok but stay away from fried items. Desserts (in the 3-course dinner for 2) had little Japanese flavor, heavy in ice cream.

This girl and Genki are going to get along great. I went there for lunch today with a co-worker and our sushi was spectacular. My lunch date told me the owners were re-doing Genki, so there's still a portion that's unopened, but overall the new interior looked great. Service was speedy for the fact that there was only one waitress working the entire place. We split two rolls, the spicy tuna and the Super Crunch roll. The Super Crunch was a combo of tuna and salmon with cream cheese, and then tempura battered. On top it had two spicy sauces, which were awesome. The meal started off w/ a small noodle bowl, and the two of us easily polished off the sushi. My one small, read: very small, downside is that our bill was kinda pricey. The Super Crunch roll alone was $10.25 and the spicy tuna was $7. Even though it was split, it was still a lot to spend on lunch. I would def. go back for dinner though, and the valet parking was free.

Been here several times, the food doesn't hugely excite me, but it isn't bad either. If the weather is good the patio is a great place to meet up with friends, have a sushi roll and enjoy a few beers. We have been here a few times with a group after our Wednesday night boot camp and the service has always been good.

This Genki has terrible service and takes forever! I ordered take out and they messed up my order completely, took over 45 minutes, and would not fix my order and instead gave me a "credit" for next time. Too bad there will definitely not be a next time. Would not recommend this place to anyone. DISGUSTING!!!!

Genki used to be the bomb. They're lunch special was awesome and great deal. They had the BEST super cruch roll I'd ever had. Then the delivery service became shotty and questionable, and once I found a moth in my salad..Hey! How'd that get there? Maybe things will start looking up for them once the refurbishment and reopening is complete.

Ok...I am guessing it was a sense of nostalgia that led us to Genki this week. I remember a few years ago this place was pretty durn good. Alas...those days are no more. Valet...Very nice, but the lot layout means it is a pain (especially in the rain) On to the dining! My order: Spicy Tuna Roll - ugh, spicy, no...sickeningly sweet, check - Grade F Snapper Nigiri - again...UGH. overly fishy, not impressive - Grade D- Sauted Beef Noodle bowl with Glass Noodles - not the least bit impressive. Unspectaular. Beef was a strange consistency somewhere between strips and ground beef. Veg was ok. overall flavor grade D. Wife was marginally more impressed with her beef bowl with ramen. Service was adequate, the waiter seemed a bit more interested in chatting up his blonde co-workers. I am not at all impressed, likely won't be back unless someone tells me things have changed significantly. PS a stop by Kroger on the way home for some pink bismoth...usually a bad sign. No stars should be an option.

A narrative of Genki, by Andre S.: Whoa, this place is like a hole in the wall sushi joint. A hole in the wall is good- its different, but is the sushi good? My California rolls tasted funky- kinda like a mixed of bad fish, chemically enhanced something somewhat off. Good thing my date spoke up for me. They graciously took it off my bill and replaced it with something else of my choosing. Why did they have to tell us they use imitation crab meat for their crab dishes! OH THE HUMANITY! I did also order the Crunchy roll, which was deep fried tempura goodness wrapped in a succulent roll. It kinda smelled like old basement inside the restaurant- I don't know if I will go back or not. The end.

Went to Genki for the first time last night after Tin Lizzie's was too packed to get a table. The valet parking was very convenient, and seeing as I hate parking my pickup truck in Buckhead it was worth the $5. We walked in at 830 and were sat immediately. The server was prompt with our drink/appetizer orders. We got the edamame which was good. For my main course I got the Olympic Roll, and the Blackened Tuna Roll. Both were excellent. The only minor complaint would be the size of the Olympic roll, I prefer bit size sushi, and this roll is quite large. Almost too large. Almost. After dinner we stayed around for an extra beer. This meant we stayed past the 10PM closing time. They didn't seam to have any problem with this, they just went about their business cleaning up the tables and getting set for the next day. The only issue was that they valet leaves at ten. He brought me back my keys and told me he had moved the car up to the front of the restaurant, which was nice. The problem was that when I got into my car after the meal, I realized he had left my doors unlocked. I was not a big fan of this, as I had just had my car broken into a couple of months ago. Nothing was stolen, but still, you shouldn't leave cars unlocked on the street. All in all it was a good experience. Good food/drinks, decent service at a normal sushi price. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

The sushi was not good and wasn't prepared well at all. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I don't think it's a good sign of authenticity when 2 non-Asians are preparing the sushi. Can I say that?? Maybe that can be a yelp "Talk" topic. This is a hole in the wall JOINT. From the clinking and clanking of dishes while you eat, to the view of the bus boys cleaning from every table - it's not a good dining experience. There are plenty of better casual and fast sushi places to go to in Buckhead. Their parking lot also had me trudging through a dark, pot-holed alley. However, I didn't try the rice bowls - which I hear are good. But I don't think I'd go back here unless I'm meeting someone. The waitress was very sweet and tried to get us a good table. Don't wear anything dressier than jeans or shorts!

My boyfriend and I were heading to Souper Jenny originally, but it was too late. Souper Jenny closed for the day! But we were too hungry and we needed a quick fix. So we stepped into Genki - since it's in the neighborhood. We ordered the Cheese Kari Kari as the appetizer. This was so good: Creamy and cheesy. You cannot go wrong with fried food, I guess? If we ended our meal at the appetizer, then Genki would've received five stars, no doubt. However, we were hungry and we ordered more. I ordered the Mixed Vegetable Don-Style as my entree. I didn't like my dish too much. Usually, I love vegetables, but these, I just couldn't tolerate. Too big in size and partially uncooked, I ended up not finishing my plate. We also ordered some nigiri - tuna, eel, and egg cutlet. Once again, nothing special. I didn't think it was that fresh either. Among all the Japanese/Sushi restaurants I've dined in, Genki is the first restaurant that wasn't ran by an Asian. In fact, I didn't see any Asian employees when I was there. I think we were the only Asians in the whole restaurant, as a matter of fact. I felt so out of place. But wait, this is a Japanese restaurant; I'm supposed to feel like "Honey, I'm home!" This is not to say, however, that their service was rude. My waiter provided one of the best services I've gotten in a while.

My friend and I both had our first experience here yesterday bc I had a groupon for this place. We absolute loved it! The appetizers were great, especially the Cheese Kari Kari, amazing!! The super crunch sushi roll was really good too. They have yummy desserts too! And good happy hour specials Monday, and we will head back for a Wednesday wine night, they had $12 bottle of wines! The waitstaff was super friendly, including the manager/owner who was very friendly and fast service!

Genki is one of my favorite places for real Japanese food. Their sushi is fresh and tasty. I love their Katsu Chicken Curry which comes with a side of vegetables. Genki has two sides of the restaurant. One side open for lunch and the other for dinner and drinks and watching sports. And they deliver..... During lunch they can get busy. There are valet services provided at Genki.

Went to Genki last night to celebrate my best friend's engagement. Staff was very knowledgeable about Sake and helped me select the right bottle (the sparkling... highly recommend it!). The food was amazing. Tuna tataki with ponzu was perfectly seared and just a tad spicy. Fried lobster was crazy. There was live music (one dude with a guitar). I was expecting some cheesy covers but was pleasantly surprised as buddy busted out everything from The Fray to The Rolling Stones and it all sounded good. We had a great time and will DEFINITELY be returning. If you like Sushi, check this place out!!

Dont waste $17 on the Yakatory Appetizer - instead of smoky char grilled bits of chicken and beef you get bland BROILED meat. The cheese is tempura fried cheddar with ketchup dipping sauce. Bleck. The bacon wrapped shrimp were the only tasty item on the plate. Again - a $17.00 rip off. We then had two of the signaure noodle bowls. The seafood in the Seafood noodle bowl was overcooked and tasted - well...not fresh. I wouldn't try the sushi after smelling the fish. The cilatro sauce lacked flavor and the dish was served like a stir fry - not ina bowl at all. The Udon noodle bowl was okay - the broth was flat and lacked any character, but the noodles were cooked well and the tempura shrimp was tasty. Overall - having spent $50.00 here on two bowls and one appetizer - I felt like it was NOT worth it at all and would not go back. The decor is cute, our server was attentive - but the food was bad.

Food: decent, but nothing special. Service: HORRIBLE! The bar tender was our waiter and although my boss and I were only 2 of 6 customers in the entire place, we were mostly ignored. We had to get his attention just to get a menu to order from. He seemed more concerned with flirting with the 2 girls at the bar... I would not go back, not worth the hassle, better sushi and service other places.

Genki is the best sushi I've had outside of San Francisco. Fresh fish (not sure how, but it is), good rice, quality ingredients and well prepared rolls. It's all pretty standard issue sushi with the usual specialty rolls specific to that sushi place. But that's not the best part. THEY DELIVER. Yes, you read that correctly. Genki *delivers* to your house. We'd get back from an epic day on Lake Lanier wakeboarding all day and not really be up to going out for food. Call up Genki place our order and in 30 minutes we'd have a perfect delivery of excellent sushi. Nothing ruined. No miso soup spilled. The family room would turn into this "I'll trade you this for that" barteringn system of trying everyone's selections out. Family style sushi if you will. Genki is an excellent choice if you're into sushi and have tastebuds that demand a bit more than what is commonly offered in the 404. I should note that I have *never* been to the restaurant. We always had it delivered. Delivery sushi!!!

The fact that the menu explains not only what edamame is, but also how to eat it says everything about this "sushi" restaurant. This place was packed on a Wednesday night at 8pm, so obviously lots of people love it, but I just don't get it... Parking was a pain (valet across the street and then run across Roswell Road). There was a nice patio, but it was full so we sat inside. Even at 8pm the place sounded like a nightclub and a bad one at that. I haven't heard that much techno since the raves of the late 90s. I waited an hour and a half (yes, 90 minutes) for one sushi roll and a couple of pieces of nigiri. The roll was mushy and skimpy on the fish. The nigiri was okay-- better than Publix sushi, but that's about all I can give it. I was sitting at a table of 7 and we all got different dishes at varying times throughout the meal (the first dish came about 45 minutes in, I got mine 90 minutes in, and some people were still waiting). When the server brought drinks and food to the table, she simply handed it to the person on the corner (without speaking) and expected everyone to pass things down the table...is it so much to ask for the server to walk around the table to properly serve each guest??? I guess people go here more for the scene than for the food, but I thought both were awful...

outdoor PATIO is great. But the food is only 'ok', quality of fish not that great, and overpriced for what you get. Much better places to get sushi

This was, quite possibly, the worst sushi I've ever tasted. Tuna was not fresh (and appeared to have been frozen). They couldn't even make a decent California roll. Everything from the rice to the preparation was just terrible. The service is not good either. Look, if you are looking for a piece of a** and want to hang with the ladies go for it. However, don't come here for dinner. Honestly, you can pick up better sushi at Publix. No, I'm not kidding. I will never go back to this place.

Well... the sushi wasn't disgusting, and my husbands rice bowl was okay, but the server (there was only one person serving when we went) and the owner suck! I called them about an hour before we got there and asked if they had lunch specials, and were were told yes and were even told what they were... When we got there the server denied they had any such specials while the owner/manager that I spoke too just sat there staring at us since we were the ONLY people in the place!! Also, the server would like go outside and try to recruit people to come in... i know the economy is bad, but damn. After reading some of the other reviews, its clear that they do have lunch specials... so wtf? Also, the "valet parking" was five dollars and he parked the car right in front of the restaurant... so we walked to it when we came out... all in all i just paid almost $40 for ONE sushi roll and a Rice bowl? for lunch???? ummm no thanks. Anyway... I don't think i'll be going there ever again.... i could have gotten the same sushi at ru san's and it woulda been cheaper and way more fun.

I really like Genki's sushi. I have been there several times and the restaurant is a "hole in the wall", but the food is good. I don't like bland sushi and Genki's sushi has flavor. I have not been there is a while, but I am planning a lunch appointment there soon.

This place is a traditional japanese restaurant with an incredible sushi menu. Has a traditional tropical themed patio and if you go downstairs to the bar, it is an extradinary view of saltwater fishtank while you have a cocktail before/after your dinner.

I have recently started enjoying Asian foods like sushi (yum!). I went here, with no expectations and left filled and delighted. Their fish selection is impressive and prices are reasonable. If you want some of the best Japanese/Asian fusion food in town, check out Genki!

The best sushi in Atlanta with a New York flare. I love eating here and it has actually become apart of my food stable to eat at Genki at least once every two weeks for the past 5 or 6 years. Great place and now I hear they deliver.

I will just keep it short and simple. Genki is a mediocre place nothing special and not terrible. Service is OK at times. Food can be better, some of their sushi especially the sashimi could be a lot fresher. i ordered the yellow tail, tuna and salmon and the salmon seemed a little old in taste and look. My main issue that made take their rating low as I did is that when I received the bill we asked the waiter to split the bill on two cards as it was lunch for two and we split it. Waiter comes back and no biggie. Next day I checked my bank account and saw that Genki charged me $60 for the full bill and then $30 for the split so I had 2 charges totaling $90 vs. $30. Waiter never mentioned this. So I call to Genki to speak to management to ensure that I am not being charged that way. The manager seemed a little dry to the fact that the waiter just inconvenienced me (no I am not looking for free meals, I could careless) but I would think that you would be a lot more proactive, sympathetic and maybe just little warmer. So the manager stated that the $60 charge should fall off in a 3 - 4 days. Well, that is the point, your company just caused my funds to be tied up in bank land for absolute no reason. So she replied and said "It's the banks fault". Really? I had to rephrase it for her "No, it is not the banks fault. If it was for Genki personnel swiping my card incorrectly and several times, there would be no "pending" on a bogus charge. Some people may experience a bounce charge or check or whatever. If I assumed that $60 was in the account. I didn't appreciate the responsiveness from management and service. Service for one didn't tell me what happened. They should know that this ties up funds but they just let me walk out. Then management tries to put it on the bank and talks to me like "Why are you calling me, the funds will be back available in 3 - 4 days". I pay attention on how people deal with situations especially management. I don't want free anything. I just think as management you should be proactive and show some care about ensuring a good experience with your business. Needless to say I will never dine at Genkis again. Not that I will miss it there are plenty of Sushi restaurants around Sandy Springs with a way better food, service and customer appreciation. Like Taki, Nori Nori or Happy Sumo

It's been awhile since i've been to Genki but, I remember the sushi being fantastic! I had the super crunch roll, it really stands out. It was a tad bit too crowded for me, really hard to get drinks while you wait on a table, and parking is kinda tricky.. but the food was worth it to me.

i've now been to genki three times, and i won't return any time soon. atlanta has plenty of places with good sushi, as well as exceptional service. that said, i've experienced a few problems with genki, as well as the service. 1.) $5 to valet a car? really? at least open my door. btw, the valet ticket says $2, so i'm calling liar liar pants on fire on the valet who was looking for way too much of a tip for subpar valet service. open the woman's door. before parking any other cars or giving away any more $2 tickets, GIVE ME BACK MY KEYS. 2.) miss honey who waited on me last time scammed the gift certificate i used. like many people, i worked my way through college waiting tables and bartending. i know a lot of tricks. i had a $50 gift certificate from half off depot and a $66 tab for food and drinks. my total still came to $26. if the gc didn't cover alcohol it most definitely didn't say so, and i should have received change for my gift certificate. oh and speaking of change, i always tip in cash so the money doesn't have to be claimed at the end of the shift. when i asked for change from the girl waiting on us, she said "i don't have change but if this is for the valet he does." um. HI. get a bank from the bartender. needless to say, since she scammed me with the gift cert by adding on an additional $10 to the bottom line, she got a less than stellar tip. 3.) oh yeah the service. we were sitting right in front of the cashier stand and sushi bar. the girl waiting on us seemed more intent to put her hands on some other waiter than to at least look over at our table and see if the food was good or if we wanted anything else to drink, or to even take away our plates in a timely manner. again, i waited tables for ten years. i know a little something about good service. 4.) would it pain y'all to turn the heat on when it's cold outside? the sushi is ok, but honestly, the last two times i've gone i've had to tell my boyfriend i had a gift card or it was my treat. the first time i went to this place it was awesome. don't know what happened, prolly the same thing that's happened with the rest of buckhead: it's gone way down hill. that said, i'm a phan of starfish and mf sushi.

Heard some negatives from Japanese friends and positives from American friends. The Japanese friend's were right. I am biased having lived nearly a decade in Tokyo, but the best thing was the edamame. I really was looking for some good ramen and since iti s called "noodles" was hoping I had found the place. I was wrong. The ramen was horrible - could make better instant ramen at home - although the toppings they put on the ramen were actually quite good. I had thinly cut steak which was delicous. Everyone else thought the sushi was pretty decent. Actually, most annoying thing about the restaurant was that they had valet parking that actually parked my car right in front of the restaurant - the same spot I pulled into and all he did was turn my car around... Not sure what the Atlanta love affair with valet parking is, but definitely wasn't necessary here.... Won't be back (but not cause of the valet - because the noodle suck).

Genki is consistently good eats. Great bowls and the quality of the sushi is grade A (and I used to work for the largest fish distributor in the South). Try the Don-style bowl and the Reid Roll.

(4)Kayla J.

(1)Karen K.
(1)Kyra M.
I'm surprised that people give this place such poor ratings. Granted, most times I come here have been after a bar crawl at the surrounding dive bars. However, I honestly think they have some of the most flavored chicken fried rice in ATL. It is the best stuff and goes well with edamame. Sake is straight too
(4)Kellyn W.
Love it!
(5)Lizz C.
A lot of variety and quite delectable! You can't go wrong with the Reid roll. I've had a great time with every visit. Other reviews complain about parking, but it's in Buckhead....what do you expect. Definitely the best sushi in this area!!!
(5)Christine C.

(1)Jonnie M.
(4)Melissa N.
I must say I truly like coming here. It's smaller of the locations but I like the young vibe around here. And for some reason I only order the same thing every time!! CRAB AND CUCUMBER SALAD - Imitation crab and sliced cucumbers tossed with a ginger vinaigrette. --add some siraracha and your good to go with this appetizer JAPANESE MARINATED RIBS - Always fall of the bone 6 pork ribs over white rice and sautéed mixed vegetables (broccoli, carrots, zucchini, squash, spinach, and cabbage) $19.95 --The ribs are so good they literally like they say, fall off the bone. And the sautéed vegetables are worth every penny paid for! Next Time I will venture off and try something new.

(3)Meghan S.
(3)timothy f.
Used to be good...not any more. Bad experience at Virginia Highland, stayed with this first location. But This time waitress quit half way though service, was overcharged, rolls have gotten tiny. Lots of little stuff that at $150$ should have been right!
(1)LeVar T.
I love the sushi here. It's always so fresh that I'm encouraged to try new things. Mostly get the Chicken Katsu and it's delicious and very filling. Depending on when you visit, parking could be scarce, so call ahead and see, but definitely eat here.
(5)Shane B.
The food and atmosphere are ALWAYS on point. Been a customer for 10+ years! Yeah the parking is a bitch as it is all over Atlanta. Get over it!
(5)David G.
(4)David W.
(4)Sue K.
(4)Megan K.
(3)Vonda D.
The only thing I really dont like about this place is that there is ALWAYS a long wait OR the service is slow. Other than that, the food is good, as well as the drinks!
(3)Carla M.

(1)Kellie N.
(4)Rich V.

(4)Anabel S.
(5)Allison F.
(4)Mikako D.
It was OK as Americanized Sushi but not gonna come back here as Japanese.
(2)Kevin L.
This place is overpriced. The fish is anything but fresh. The reliance upon mayonnaise based sauces to mask this fact is humorous. What is not humorous, however, is paying $12 for a six piece roll. You'd be better off eating a raw tuna steak at home.

I like big butts. and boobs.

(3)Emily S.
The rolls were falling apart on the plate, the quality of fish is really low. Don't go here for sushi.
(1)Stricky T.

(1)Yun Mi P.

(4)Lauren P.
Over-priced for the little food actually provided. Parking is a nightmare, the waitstaff (and manager) are so rude and unobliging. I'm never going back,
(1)Keith B.
(2)Jennifer L.
(4)Nancy R.
(4)Sam W.
Small rolls. Poor seafood/fish. Was not impressed...but I guess I shouldn't be too shocked. Its located between a bunch of bars and open until like 2am? I guess we are in atlanta, not exactly close to the ocean.
(2)Jenn D.
Thanks.
(1)Vang H.

(1)Charles F.
(1)Lauren M.
(2)Talib K.
(1)Shannon C.
(4)Annie R.
(1)Mister S.
Wonderful little gem in Virginia Highlands. Food was scrumptuous(I highly recommend the Japanese Curry Chicken bowl), staff was warm and friendly, and prices were moderate. I'll be frequenting this place for sure.
(4)Hiroki K.
(1)Emmy K.
(1)Lauren S.

(1)Frank H.

(1)TurboFerret S.
Shady waitstaff. Subpar food. Wish it was better but it's not.
(2)Destin D.

(3)Danielle S.
(1)John W.

(1)Kristen B.
(2)R B.

(1)Joe C.
outdoor PATIO is great. But the food is only 'ok', quality of fish not that great, and overpriced for what you get. Much better places to get sushi
(2)Kendall T.
(1)Sarah M.
Well... the sushi wasn't disgusting, and my husbands rice bowl was okay, but the server (there was only one person serving when we went) and the owner suck!
(1)Samantha H.
I really like Genki's sushi. I have been there several times and the restaurant is a "hole in the wall", but the food is good. I don't like bland sushi and Genki's sushi has flavor. I have not been there is a while, but I am planning a lunch appointment there soon.
(4)Bella I.
This place is a traditional japanese restaurant with an incredible sushi menu. Has a traditional tropical themed patio and if you go downstairs to the bar, it is an extradinary view of saltwater fishtank while you have a cocktail before/after your dinner.
(5)Tucker W.
I have recently started enjoying Asian foods like sushi (yum!). I went here, with no expectations and left filled and delighted. Their fish selection is impressive and prices are reasonable. If you want some of the best Japanese/Asian fusion food in town, check out Genki!
(5)E E.
The best sushi in Atlanta with a New York flare. I love eating here and it has actually become apart of my food stable to eat at Genki at least once every two weeks for the past 5 or 6 years. Great place and now I hear they deliver.
(5)Danny B.
(1)Laura S.
It's been awhile since i've been to Genki but, I remember the sushi being fantastic! I had the super crunch roll, it really stands out. It was a tad bit too crowded for me, really hard to get drinks while you wait on a table, and parking is kinda tricky.. but the food was worth it to me.
(3)A.M. D.
i've now been to genki three times, and i won't return any time soon. atlanta has plenty of places with good sushi, as well as exceptional service. that said, i've experienced a few problems with genki, as well as the service.
