El Mexicano is home to consistently delicious Mexican food, drinks, and desserts. I started frequenting when I moved to the neighborhood two years ago. Since then, they've made a few cosmetic improvements to the restaurant and they've really improved the menu. I love the variety of margaritas they offer. All are delicious. You can bet that every time, you're getting the same delicious food with fresh ingredients. I've never seen a brown avocado or soggy lettuce here, and that's part of why this place stands out. The other reason is that for the price, it's not common to find food that is this consistently delicious and always well-presented on the plate. The atmosphere is casual, like it's everyone's neighborhood joint. Service is friendly. On a Friday or Saturday night they may be busy, but you won't wait long. Come check it out!

Ok! So this place isn't far from my house in East Atlanfa, and we decided to check it out!! It's not much to look at from the outside but inside where the food is, is amazing! Flavored and meat quality is very high! We enjoyed our meal! They don't skimp on the proteins and that's much appreciated!! All in all this Mexican place is a hit! Prices are great and food is good!! A++++

First visit was good. I had the shrimp burrito which was delish and too much to finish after the chips and salsa. Will come again.

I wanted to really love this place. Judging by previous reviews, maybe we were just there on an off night??? The margaritas were decent, my combo plate was ok, and service was good enough. I really did like their salsa, though!!! Nothing was terrible, but nothing was remarkable, either. And honestly....not that cheap for Mexican food! I would rather go to Mi Barrio any day!!!

SWEET BABY JESUS HALLELUJAH, I FOUND IT!!! After 8 years of searching, having moved here from LA, I have my go-to Mexican/Tex-Mex place. The order has been restored to the universe. There are two moments early on in any first visit to a new mexican restaurant when you know whether you're good or you're screwed: when they bring out the chips and salsa (if it's essentially pico de gallo floating in tomato flavored water with no kick, you're screwed) and the first sip of your margarita (if it's cloyingly sweet and you can't taste the alcohol, you're screwed). El Mexicano won me over within 10 minutes: the salsa was perfect, just the right mix of chunky and pureed, smokey, and perfectly spicy. The hibiscus margarita was perfection - juice, orange liqueur, and reposado, no simple syrup or agave to make it too sweet, well balanced, strong, delicious. Hubby had the more savory cilantro cucumber one and was equally impressed. Little did we know the best was yet to come. We ordered the costillas de puerco con nopales (fall off the bone tender pork short ribs in a chile de arbol sauce with cactus) and carne a la mexicana (smokey grilled steak in chipotle sauce). To say both were absolutely delicious would be an understatement. I'm telling you, this was some seriously authentic, well seasoned, balanced, yummy food. I'm gonna dream about it tonight. I'm already planning my return visit to try the chicken with mole, the tamales, and one of the molcajetes. Come to think of it, I might have to come with a group. And as if all this wasn't enough already, this place has some of the nicest, most attentive staff around. What a find!

Awwww yeahhhhh this is what I'm talking about! This is some serious Mexican food that is seriously great. I've been waiting to find a place like this in Atl and its like the heavens opened and all my prayers were answered/dreams came true/etc etc. $1.99 street tacos are where it's at. Even if you get an entree, grab a plate of these for the table. They're so simple and so so flavorful - I love the corn tortillas (they have to be homemade) but I'm sure the flour are great too. DEM CARNITAS. I'll be going back and trying all of the pork dishes but SHIT those carnitas are to die for . So moist and tender with a crisp outside. Mmmmm. The guac comes w cucumber slices which is such a cool twist and tastes great w the avocado. Prices are fair, service is excellent. Food is incredible.

Ever since Nuevo Laredo pissed me off last year, I've been searching for a new favorite place for Mexican food in the ATL. This place is still not Nuevo (god, I miss their steak fajita salad), but it's pretty darn good. And the service is way better. Made my second trip there this week. And super excited that they got their liquor license! I mean, their food is tasty but sometimes you really just need a margarita... especially after sitting in meetings all day. My amiga and I enjoyed two great meals here with friendly service, taking our server's recommendations both times with no disappointments. Fresh, authentic food-- and well prepared. Only negatives-- We loved the salsa, but thought the chips could be fresher. Also, the interior of this place is fairly plain... not much more than tables and chairs. They could jazz up the joint a bit, but at least everything was clean and tidy. And not that they can do anything about it, but the neighborhood isn't the greatest or easiest to get to from our side of town. Definitely on the repeat list.

I was in the mood for Mexican, and what sold me on this place versus the other places in the area was the fact that they offer free chips and salsa! Whooo! That's always a huge incentive for me when I go to Mexican places, and this place had very tasty salsa. Of course we also got cheese dip, but we could have been perfectly satisfied with the house salsa. The parking lot was amble for this restaurant, with plenty of spaces to park. It has the appearance of an old trailer that's been outfitted into a restaurant, but I honestly didn't feel as unsafe as some of the other people... We were able to be seated and served within a short period of time. The waiter and service was perfectly adequate. No complaints here. Since it was Friday, and it was a rare occasion where I actually had the day off, we were able to order off of the lunch menu (which goes Monday-Friday until 2pm). What is cool about the lunch menu is that they offer multiple entrees for around $6.99. I got a burrito, enchilada, and a chalupa. Rice was an additional expense, but that still had the meal around $10. And for the record, I was able to save most of the rice and one of the entrees, which I ate for dinner that night with leftover cheese dip. PROS: Relatively quick service. Free chips and salsa! And the salsa was very tasty. Very large parking lot. The chicken that I got was soooo tender and juicy. Food tasted very fresh. Lunch and a side of ride was less than $10, so very reasonably priced. CONS: Shredded chicken, rather than chopped or chunked. Foods that were touted as spicy... Weren't. They use pickled jalapenos for the cheese dip (optional) which just taste sort of bland in comparison to fresh cut. Lunch menu portions seemed like they were on the smaller side. THE VERDICT: Really good Mexican food, for a relatively cheap price. The chicken in my food was so juicy and tender, which only added to the super delicious taste of it. And with free chips and salsa, you can definitely bet that I'll be back here! The place was relatively busy when we came on a Friday afternoon, with only about 3 empty tables, and the waiter was just fine at serving us and re-filling our water cups. When I'm in the area and I feel like getting some Mexican food, I will definitely be back.

Great menu! Liquor service is new(ish), but they have margaritas, cold beers, and shots if you're trying to do all that. I haven't had a bad meal and usually try to stop by weekly. Don't be afraid to order anything on the menu. It is all good!

This place is so great. It's cheap, simple, and delicious. And I feel like it's pretty authentic. They have a giant jug of horchata at the counter. The interior of this place is simple and casual with lots of windows. There's something that looks like a bar, but I don't think they serve liquor. I ordered two Chorizo Mexican street tacos and beans and rice. The waitress says she eats the tacos every day, and I can see why. They're really, really good. My waitress was really helpful. After I ordered the tacos (by yelp recommendation) I asked what else was good and/ or popular. She pointed me toward the Tortas And a couple of the house specialties. The man at the table next to me was having a torta, and it looked awesome. I'm giving this place five stars because I really liked the service, and the food was great. Additionally, it's really close to the Starlight Drive In, so it's a great place to go before a movie or after the weekend flea market.

The food and customer service here are fabulous! Zule and Ray gave us the utmost experience!!! kuddos to those guys!!! The drink prices aren't so consumer friendly which made the establishment loose a star. I shall return

Love love love this place!! The food here never disappoints! Took my friends here and they loved it!! Authentic food that tastes great and is made with integrity and Amor! I go often and love it a little more every single time!!

I have tried a few other Mexican Food restaurants around the area, but none seem to get the job done as well as El Mexicano. They are good, but El Mexicano has an authentic, great tasting selection of food. I would order it all if I could haha. The service is pretty good, and consistently nice to their customers. The location is okay, kind of a gem.

These may be the best tacos in Atlanta. Yeah, i said it. Or at least in the top 3. Every since the new cook came on board they have been knocking it out of the park. I've eaten here probably about 10 times now since the new cook and it's been awesome every time. My wife often gets the molcajete, which looks amazing (i'm not as keen on seafood). She loves it. I usually get a plate of street tacos. How can this place get better? They have beer AND liquor now! Sure, it's not in the best part of Atlanta, and yes, the parking lot is large but full of potholes. But it's totally worth it. Great food, good service, friendly staff. Writing about them is making me want tacos.

    (5)
  • Brian J.

They finally serve margaritas. I had two tacos. The Chorizo taco was pretty good but the steak taco wasn't that great. Steak was slightly overcooked and under seasoned. I did like the salsa better this time around.

  • Alex C.

This is my go to place if I want real Mexican around the Moreland/Memorial area. There are plenty of places that are non-chain burrito/taco places, but few that do the real deal. Now this isn't Taco La Villa (Vinings) or Taco Veloz (Chamblee), but it's the next best thing for this part of town. I'd recommend the molcajete if you want a variety off meats and sauce to go with it. But if you're just down for some tacos, then skip all the fancy plates and get street tacos. Four is enough paired with their chips and salsa, but 6 is good if you're extra hungry.

  • Gina H.

This place is so good. Do NOT let the appearance steer you away. The margaritas are fresh and delicious. My go to is the chicken mole tostadas, they are to die for. Churros with ice cream the perfect ending. Dinner and drinks for two with a dessert for $35!

  • Kelli K.

Authentic Mexican food excellent fresh chips and dip brought to your table soon after you walk in.The dish that I chose was a chicken chimichanga w/ melted Mexican cheese topped w/ chopped cilantro and onions paired with refried beans and rice on the side!!! Yummy . Also the waiter was attentive and delightful Great experience!

This is the best Mexican restaurant in town!! I always get the Mojarra la Veracruzana. It's a fried (whole) tilapia dish and it's always cooked to perfection. The waitresses are always nice and attentive. Mucho Gracias!

  • Rick A.

Visited this resturant because of the high ratings but was overall disappointed. If you know good Mexican you'll agree with me on this review. The inside decore is very simple and table and chairs uncomphortable for dining in. The first thing we recieved was chips and salsa and the chips were cold and hard. Not at all pleasant to eat. Food was mediocre. Service the same. Wouldn't revisit.

This place is amazing, I personally think it's every bit as good as Nuevo Laredo, without the line. So glad to have something this good on our side of town, finally. The street tacos are to die for and the mojitos are as good as the ones I make at home with tons of fresh mint (that was growing in pots right on the patio!). Service was quick and friendly, we will definitely be going here regularly.

There's a certain type of restaurant that is often in an odd or perhaps sketchy locale with cheap decor and furniture best described as serviceable, but that has a ton of delicious food for cheap and those in the know turn up on the regular to partake of all it has to offer. El Mexicano is one of those places. I had the veggie fajitas with corn tortillas. The veggies were done perfectly, hot and perfectly seasoned but still firm and cut to good sizes. I got peppers, onion, and zucchini, with a little bit of tomato and a lime in one corner. The meal came with beans, rice, sour cream, lettuce, and a little salsa fresca as well as three very hot corn tortillas. Everything was delicious and all the flavors blended beautifully. Service was prompt and pleasant. Allergens are not marked on the menu, but as is typical if you're avoiding gluten all you need to do is get corn tortillas. Vegetarian options are definitely present and asking for vegan accommodations would be easy.

Love this place. Atlanta has a ton of tex-mex but when you really just want your basic combo plate of tacos and enchiladas that won't eat into your weekly grocery bill Atlanta is scarce. But not to diminish their menu because they definitely have some more intricate items. Chips and salsa come with everything even to-go orders and their salsa is great. Love their street tacos too. If you get them to go eat them immediately...Like any taco the bottom tends to break when all those good juices have time to soak into it. I haven't ventured too much past the basics yet. Love hearing that they got their liquor license because that's all they were missing. It's a great, fast go to spot and the staff is always so pleasant. It looks like a weird location to anyone not in the area but it's really not, and who doesn't love a good restaurant that has its own parking lot.

Great authentic Mexican in Atlanta. Pork and shrimp dishes are standouts for me. Friendly service and they now have their liquor license .. that means margaritas:) Cool to see this place grow and succeed!

El Mexicano provides a more authentic Mexican option on the east side of town without having to travel all the way up to Buford Hwy. I usually have the dinner combo, which is a choice of 1 or 2 standard Mexican food items (burrito, enchilada, etc.), small salad, rice and beans. I like that you can kind of pick and choose to make a dinner combo that you want. They also have street tacos which will give you a more authentic flair. It's a little bit of a dive, but the service has been good each time I've gone. Prices are decent. Overall, I've enjoyed the food each time I've gone.

  • Jenna R.

Fantastic and delicious. We started with the guacamole which was fresh and yummy. We had margaritas-lime and sabor a mexico. Both were great. We had tacos, enchiladas, and burritos and all were authentic and tasty. Can't wait to eat here again!

  • Mary P.

We had the Combination Fajitas which were very good! Also, the salsa was home-made containing fresh cilantro. I'd come back.

Good drinks decent food the chips and salsa was the tastiest part of the meal and rest was down hill. The beef burrito was weird you can try it out if you want. But the cucumber juice was sweet and refreshing.

Don't let the parking lot or area keep you away! This is a higher end style of Mexican food with out the prices but all the flavors. Good staff and an expansive menu that really makes you work for decision on what to order. I have been several times with no wait for a table (Yet). No liquor license currently, however expected by early 2015. Beer is served. There is some patio dining as well. I had the Mole Chicken and it was memorable. However, my friend ordered, at the suggestion of our server: Daziy, a dish of hauntingly good shrimp enchiladas with a verde sauce that made me envious. If you want the place with great food, service, value and easy seating, then this is it! Easily as good/better as ANYTHING on Buford HWY.

After mentioning my poor experience here I had multiple people telling me the good experience they'd had. I so badly want a good Mexican place near me so I gave it another chance. Seriously I really wanted to be wrong but this place is a bland Mexican restaurant. The process of making Mexican food shouldnt make it possible, but it is so bland. Chicken is wet and tasteless (marinating chicken would probably help). The way they prepare food and the proportions they serve in their dinner combos a lot of the food looks frozen or prepared way in advance. I would be very surprised if their burritos were in house. Salsa was ok. Service was way better this time but we only dealt with the hostesses because we did take out.

We stumbled upon this place with the family. Solid low-key Mexican food. The guac is yummy and their seafood dishes was delicious!

  • Steve T.

Wow. Great Tex-Mex. Great menu. Fantastic drinks. Fresh, flavorful, reasonably priced food. Friendly service. Outdoor seating. Ample parking. Yes, it's in a sketchy area, but I'm so psyched to have a great Mexican restaurant so close to home South of I-20 intown. This place is often very crowded, even on a week day, and now I see why! Highly recommended. Some menu items are better hits than others. Try the street tacos. The combo meals are good too.

I'm pleased to report El Mexicano has resolved its license issue and is now offering beer plus a variety of margaritas to accompany its yummy food.

If you want great authentic Mexican dishes then this is the place for you! With a friendly attentive staff and great food (I highly recommend the mojete a la yucateca) you'll be hard pressed to find something better. I was never a huge fan of spanish food but El Mexicano has definitely given me a reason to start being one!

El Mexicano was great!!! After seeing reviews on Yelp months ago, I convinced my wife that we should give it a try. After pulling into the parking lot, she said "no way, we're not eating here!" Fast forward a couple more months after seeing other positive reviews, and we gave it a shot. We actually made it inside the second time. This is definitely a no frills place, but the food was very good, and the prices were cheap. The free chips and salsa were great. I had a dinner combo with a grilled chicken taco, a shredded chicken burrito, and served with rice and beans. My wife had a taco salad with ground beef. We both really enjoyed what we ordered. Food was good, service was friendly and fast, and it was a clean restaurant. It's definitely a good option for Mexican in this part of town.

My fiance and I went there about two weeks ago. I am a vegetarian but he is not. We both loved our food and agreed we will definitely be back. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The positive reviews were right -- this place is a gem.

Absolutely love this place! My husband and I just discovered this place and decided to give it a try! The good reviews don't lie! This place is a gem!! We had excellent service and the good was amazing. Try the Mexican street taco and the enchiladas.

Awesome food. We started with a guacamole appetizer which was very well made. The nachos were made in house and not oily or salty. We enjoyed the chicken tostada appetizer as well. The margaritas we excellent...no crappy mix added, all authentic; my wife loved the watermelon one and I really like the original (but if u like sweet, hers was better). We were going to order entrees but were pretty much full. Instead we had one chicken taco each...amazingly authentic Mexican...I was transported back to a street taco stand in Old Acapulco. The waitress did an excellent job. We will return!!! Thank you, we finally found a great authentic, Mexican restaurant in ATL after being here 3 years.

No liquor license!!! Mexican food without beer or margaritas, unheard of. I'll come back when they have a liquor license!!!

Holy crap. This place is amazing!!!!!!! The salsa is homemade and you can just taste the love in it. The food blew me away. The restaurant itself doesn't look like much on the outside but the food is spectacular. Best taco al pastor I've ever had in my life and I'm a Hispanic food addict.

Love this place! We live in Grant Park and have been a few times and each time is great! Whatever dish we order it is tasty, authentic and delicious. Service can be slow but if you have patience it's well worth the wait! Don't let the location scare you! You won't be dissapointed!

I've lived most of my life in Texas, and I've been to California, and I tell you what, finding a decent Mexican restaurant in Georgia isn't easy. This place is the real deal, y'all. I'm serious, the best Mexican food I've had since I left Texas. The salsa is fresh, and so yummy. The chili relleno is a real stuffed pepper! I can't tell you how many restaurant around here serve a pile of mushy meat with a bit of pepper on top, cover it with gloppy cheese and call that a relleno. Rice and beans were perfect. All the food was wonderful, fresh, seasoned perfectly. Reminded me of San Diego. Try a michelada while you're there. Oh my!

Great Mexican restaurant.. margaritas are very good..but pricey. California burrito was great and a wonderful presentation. Fish tacos very tasty. Salsa was also wonderful. Hard to find but worth searching this one out.

El Mexicano has wonderful, authentic Mexican food for a great price. It's worth the drive! The restaurant is pretty basic and has few frills, but it's clean, the service is very friendly, and (again) the food is great! I've enjoyed every meal I've had there and everyone I've gone with has loved the food as well. My only complaint is that they don't' sell margaritas at this time - they do have beer though.

    (5)
  • Elizabeth R.

The salsa is great! The food was pretty good - I haven't found a Mexican restaurant that I just love in the East Atlanta area. The service is what makes this place stand out - our waiter was just wonderful. We rarely go to restaurants with my two year old son because he doesn't like to sit. Our waiter was the toddler whisperer (seriously) and we were able to sit and eat a very enjoyable meal.

  • Debi J.

Great place. Even at 3pm they were busy. Was just in Cali a few months ago and the street tacos al pastor is spot on and authentic. The corn tortillas taste home-made. The complimentary house salsa is FULL of flavor...smoky and delicious. Also, we noticed they have a 100 on their health score. Khadijah our server was so sweet and seemed to have a firm grasp of her menu and product knowledge. We will definitely return.

  • Khang F.

$2 tacos and 3 tostadas for $8. Very good food and for a good price not far from East Atlanta. Five stars if they had add elotes and lengua on their menu. Not the best decor but the service is always solid and there's plenty of parking. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city IMO. You don't have to drive out to Buford hwy for cheap tasty tacos.

    (4)
  • Chloe S.

Cheap tacos, fast service! Been coming here for years and the tacos are cheap and delicious. Service is always prompt and you are seated with FREE chips and salsa, a rare find in the city. They need margaritas, then I would never go anywhere else for my Mexican fix.

  • Ain H D.

My seafood dish was supreme. Like, I-don't-care-if-y'all-see-me-lick-my-fingers good. Crab, shrimp, tilapia ... Yum! The price was right, too. I'd go here again if it weren't for the distance and the terrible service. Our waitress clearly wasn't feeling my group. She had a very blah attitude. She was extremely dry. I'm huge on customer service so the fact that I'd traveled so far to be treated so poorly was a letdown. If you can stomach the sour staff, the food is worth a try.

  • Nicole G.

This place definitely falls under the "Don't judge a book by its cover" category. My husband didn't want to go here because this is on Moreland near Custer Avenue, not the most aesthetically pleasing area of town. However, I insisted that we go because I had heard great things. I'm glad we did. The food was great. We got the enchiladas, which were pretty damn good. We actually got them pretty quickly on a Friday night, which was a little busy when we got there. Our waitress was pretty attentive, and I think the manager kept coming by to make sure that we liked the food. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The salsa is awesome! This place had really stepped up their service and quality since the new owners took over. Try the tostadas! This is one of my go-to places.

  • Kate D.

This place is just what I've been looking for: cheap, fresh, authentic Mexican food. Is that too much to ask, Atlanta? (Cough cough I'm looking at you, el Azteca) It's the best Mexican food I've had south of Buford highway. The mole sauce is incredible and their tostadas are to die for. Definitely recommend the ceviche appetizer. It's very unassuming from the outside, but a total hidden gem. This will be my new go to Mexican spot!

  • Asher K.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. The place is totally different than it was a few years ago. Inside is clean, cool environment, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Love the salsa, and their guacamole is the best I've had in long time!!! Portions are big and ingredients seem to be very fresh.

I'm updating and editing my review of this restaurant. Even though I originally wrote a bad review based off of the last service I had there (I did not say anything negative about the food in that original review), I HAD to go back there because I've been several times before and LOVED the food and drinks! I decided I was going to talk to the manager and express my disappointment the last time my wife and I were there. She apologized adamantly and explained that unfortunately they were extremely packed that day and we had a new waitress in training waiting on us. So it was the perfect storm of what could go wrong. She still admitted that was no excuse for bad service, and was extremely appreciative of me coming back to give her another chance. With that said, again, the food is AWESOME! My "usual" order is a Sac City Margarita, Queso dip w/ Chorizo, and 4 Street Tacos (2 carne asada, 1 pastor, 1 carnitas).....absolutely PERFECT!! I go there on average twice within a 10 day period.....so I'm glad I gave them another chance......I would HATE to miss out on their food and drinks for the rest of my life!!!! :-)

I just discovered this place having driven by for years after a friend told me it had reopened under new management. It does not look like much from the outside, but trust me, it's one of those dive Mexican spots you always hope to find. Clean, inexpensive, and great service. I came back twice within the same week. Food is great, guac is great. The second time, there was a mariachi band playing for Dia de Los Muertos- the waitresses had their faces painted like Day of the Dead skeletons, and they had a special menu that included Tres Leches cake. Very festive! This is my new place! Do not be scared of the location, just go in and give it a try.

Great parking, clean, great service, yummy fresh food, can accommodate large groups. Have been there at least 10 times. Pork street tacos, el pollo mole poblano, beans, all very good. They also have Aguas frescass "cool waters"!!! If you have never had one, you must try them here. I have tried the cucumber, pineapple, horchata (cinnamon & rice milk) & hibiscus. I love them all the same! Family and large group friendly, very casual, but the food is top notch.

It's SO GOOD. We came once before and it was no bueno. Everything was dusty and yellow. A couple months ago, though, we noticed that it was under new management. Someone painted the walls and threw out the nativity fish tank, and now it's our favorite Mexican food in the city. Chips and salsa are delicious (I do love pre-food food), and the menu is very diverse for a small place. The food comes fast, hot and fresh, and my hubby and I can get full for under 25 bucks. It's a great dinner spot on the way to the drive-in. My least favorite thing now? We used to have the place to ourselves, but it seems the word's gotten out and we had to wait on a table last weekend. Guess that means the new and improved El Mexicano is here to stay!

  • John S.

Simple, fresh, cheap, Mexican - el Mexicano is a hidden gem among a mass of expensive, trendy, snobby ATL Mexican joints. Best place for Mexican food ITP. If I eat there with my wife is must be to-go because the ambiance is the worst. Burritos, chips and salsa, cheese dip are my faves. Headed there tonight!

Great tasting authentic Mexican food. Great prices, great service. I return as much as I can.

First off, looks can be deceiving. I wasn't expecting much walking in due to the exterior but man when I tasted those tacos....best I ever had. Everything was great and the people were so friendly. I'll definitely be back and I highly recommend it to everyone. This is the best place for Mexican food in Atlanta.

I was very impressed with the food and service. My one detractor is, although the margaritas are delicious, they lacked potency. Up the buzz factor and it's 5 stars for sure!

Seriously, if you love Mexican food go here now. My husband and I used to go to the old Mexicano about once every other month but since the new one re-opened under new management going to eat here has been a weekly thing for us. They have a ton of vegetarian options (get the veggie burrito) and the pork enchiladas are something I dream about. They have redecorated a bit and it is starting to look really cute. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I am waiting on the Margaritas to happen. They only serve cerveza, not necessarily a bad thing but I usually want a delish Margarita along with my Mexican food, or at least some wine. Once they get a liquor license, I will prob be here more like twice a week, lol. I can see me now, sitting out on the patio in the summer, enjoying some enchiladas and a big Margarita, overlooking Moreland Ave.... Yay!

  • Susan J.

Staff is great. Food is good. Owner is horrifically rude! I used to come here all the time and the owner made terrible margaritas and when we sent them back, he came out with major attitude. I've brought so many people here over the past few months. Never again.

Bathrooms smelled clean. Food tasted fresh. Service was super quick. However the neighborhood is questionable. Definitely don't go for the decor, needs much more ambiance. Also, i wish they had a full bar. Only alcohol they had was beer. I so wanted a margarita tonight.

  • Brad D.

Wow! Wasn't expecting much but it was close to home and Mi Barrio was closed. The decor isn't much to speak of and the exterior is pretty awful. But the food was excellent. The chips, salsa and guacamole got it off to a great start. Three of us had three different dinner entrees. All were delicious. I'll definitely be back. Great to have it so close to home!

Very low key and chill spot... Great service and food is goodness!!! The molcajete is amazing and so is the michelada... Its in the neighborhood and definitely saves on the drive to Buford highway. Definitely recommend if you'd like some good Mexican food. Two thumbs up

This is a long-term, family run business, and I loved that right away. I've been a few times. The food has always been good, but don't expect Fresh Tex Mex -- that isn't what this is. It's more an "ice cold beer in those mugs your dad used to have" kind of place. Our servers have always been friendly and the right amount of talkative. About the food -- You get a lot of food. We did their combo plate and were a bit overwhelmed. So don't over order. I really liked the enchiladas. They are happy to put any filling in the "shell" you want, whether it's a taco, enchilada, or all the other Mexican shapes. Yes, it's in the hood. The parking lot is plentiful and open, so not too scary. We live nearby so I'm a bit less sensitive to that, but if you're driving from Dunwoody, you'll want to bring all your armor. Solid 3 stars. Maybe 3 1/2.

Let me start by saying that I have lived in East Atlanta for the last 4 years or so. I drive by this place quite often. Until this past month I would have never stopped here. The shades were always closed. There was never anyone in the parking lot. It just didn't look inviting. Recently, signs when up saying "under new management", the shades were open, the lights were lit up, and there were cars in the parking lot. My boyfriend and I decided to stop for some cheese dip and salsa- just to test the waters. We were surprised! The wait staff was super nice and very welcoming. It was clean inside. And I didn't feel scared being there like the view from the road made me feel in the previous years. I went back and got a taco salad. YUM! It was awesome. My boyfriend even got some horchata (which wasn't on the menu)! We will definitely be back and are thrilled to have the restaurant as a new option to our dining out.

It's good, but you have to know what to get and what to not to.... The ground beef appetizers are good. That includes the Tostadas, and taquitos; please don't get the chicken as it's drowned in mole sauce that is not good. They have a dish I have a no idea how to pronounce that has chicken, steak, pork, shrimp, and a flavorful sauce.

I'm so glad my husband finally convinced me to try this place! I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but I may have just changed my mind! The food was authentic and absolutely delicious! It was even presented nicely, which you normally don't see in this price range! Our waitress was nice--when she found it was our first time here, she took the time to explain the restaurant as well as the menu and even made some suggestions. She was attentive and our glasses were always filled. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and I cannot wait until we return to eat here!

This is our go-to family dinner out. We were pretty floored by the place when the management changed. Everything is yummy, service is good, and the space is bright and clean. Only drawback is no margaritas. I hope that's in the works.

  • Who R.

Serve me guacamole in a martini glass any day! El Mexicano is fresh & authentic & most importantly classy, and there's this one male waiter who's hilarious, which really makes my dining experience special. I recommend the carnitas as your meat choice, and my fave menu item is the taco salad, sans frijoles. The molcajetes are good too. While they do serve fresh-made juices and bottled cerveza (Pacifico included!), my only qualm with this place is its lack of a liquor license (i.e. no margs). Keep up the good work!!

    (5)
  • Brooke B.

More like El Amazicano!!! But seriously, we really did enjoy having dinner here. Super attentive and polite waitstaff. The food was even better than we expected. They only have two tables on their patio. That would be the only complaint I would have. If we couldn't get an outside table we would have been bummed. We will definitely we back.

This free standing building has a "hole-in-the-wall" vibe to it, both inside and out, but don't let it fool you. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in Atlanta was here. Wait staff is very friendly and they have right amount of attentiveness. First time I went, I got the carnitas and they were what won me over. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Only downside, no margaritas, but apparently that is changing very soon!

Fresh, tasty food. Fast friendly service, plenty of parking. Our new go-to taco joint! Margaritas not on the menu as of last visit. Hope that changes!

Food was decent. Service was excellent but there wasnt a bar...not even beer and mexican jist isnt mexican with out beer and tequila!!!! I wont be back for this reason..its not just about food or service. Its the experience and it just isnt the same without some cheap margaritas and a dos equis.

This was my second time here and it basically strikes me as a run of the mill family owned Mexican restaurant that happens to be located in east Atlanta I ordered a "Mexican street taco" as part of a combo meal (came w/ rice and beans) and the advertised price was something like $7.75. I asked the person who took my order if I could substitute shrimp and he said no problem. My food came and the taco was tiny, and had three small pieces of shrimp. For $8 I was already feeling like this was on the light side. The worst part was the taco was extremely spicy, to the point where I couldn't eat it after the first bite and picked out the other 2 pieces of shrimp to eat. I'm not one to begrudge a Mexican place for having spicy food so I wasn't that upset about it- was planning on just ordering something different next time. Until I came to pay my bill. Apparently 3 small pieces of shrimp justify a $5 upcharge on a tiny taco. I was SHOCKED. When I protested, the guy took it down to $2.50 and acted like he was doing me a favor. I ended up paying over $11 for one tiny, spicy taco and some refried beans and rice. I could have gone to Chipotle for that amount of money and gotten 3 delicious tacos with guacamole and a drink. I know that's kind of an apples to oranges comparison but this place sketches me out and I probably won't be back. The tortilla chips they give tables are actually fairly high quality and I liked them a lot. That was the one positive thing I experienced there so I thought I'd mention it to be fair.

Ok so probably should give 4.5 but gave 5 because of smiles and service. The food was great. A very pleasant surprise. Don't let the book cover fool you. Best Mexican I've had in awhile and my tender skirt steak wasn't covered in cheese. Will be back soon.

  • Eleasah H.

Carnitas for me and chimichanga for the boy. We probably would have cleaned our plates if we hadn't gorged on the delicious chips and salsa before the food. Which was really really really good. We're looking forward to working our way through the menu. Food tasted fresh and carefully made, portions were generous and prices reasonable. Two complaints. First, food came out fast, but other service was sloooow. Took forever to get menus and check at the end. The place wasn't crowded, so it was hard not to get annoyed. Second, looking forward to some tequila on the drink menu. Beer is great, but beer after a margarita is better!

  • P S.

The food here is great authentic Mexican food. Not tex mex crap Americans think is Mexican. The tostadas with chorizo are amazing. Chips are light and crisp. Salsa could be more spicy but are good. Service is normal for a small mom n pop. Has a patio outside that allows dogs so thats nice. Its my new go to Mexican restaurant.

Came in server was very nice and prompt to table with the free chips and salsa. My roommate order steak fajitas and I got the number 4 which was 2 tacos an 1 enchilada with chili con queso.. They give you a lot of food here.. and it is very good and CHEAP.... I would have never came to this place because just looking at it from the street , the decor is kind of over done.. but thats not a diss... I am a fan. THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT TOO !!!

I don't think I can contribute anything to the other glowing reviews other than HERE HERE! The service is friendly and quick. I ordered the pork carnitas and while they were great, the seafood was superior. I've hear the food was better before the new management, but I can't image how it could get any better. The building is a little run down, but I don't be such a snob.

We eat a lot of Mexican, both at home and in restaurants. The food is much better and more authentic than any chain and much cheaper than fancy non-chains. The staff has always been very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. The Cinco de Mayo special (Mole Poblano) was fantastic!

El Mexicano has some good ass Mexican food yo. The super nachos are super and the place makes me feel like I am in Mexico with its authentic vibe. All we need is a mariachi band and were set bro.

  • Jon W.

It is cheap, you get free chips and salsa and there is a beautiful jungle and nativity scene on the inside. That is pretty much all I want for a Mexican restaurant and El Mexicano delivers. The food is pretty delicious as well... your classic tex-mex with delicious tasting sauce. Me gusta.

  • Domonic B.

This is a very small place and you'll miss it if you aren't careful! This is a very nice place to come and get some cheap but decent Mexican food. Service is fast and they aren't usually busy which helps the servers be very attentive. If you don't mind visiting Moreland Avenue then I definitely suggest stopping by here. The only problem i've had out of this establishment was that they ran a special on HalfOffDepot.com and when I bought the voucher they refused to honor it. Halfoffdepot.com gave me my money back tho b/c of the hassle.

Zero ambiance but 100% delicious authentic Mexican food. It is very reminiscent of a great place where my wife and I ate in Isla Mujeres, Mexico - no decor, but amazing food.

My new fav spot! I had the three enchiladas plate and it was amazing. Salsa is made in house, guac is fresh (no mayo or sour cream added here!). The waitress wasn't terrible to us, brought us refills and didn't even give a bad look when I used our Scoutmob. I gotta tell ya, I'm glad that Scoutmob sent me here bc I'm a believer now and a regular!

  • Allison N.

I got an asada quesadilla to go and thought it was tasty! Service was fast and friendly. My only complaint is that some of my chips weren't cooked all the way... But the fact that they make their own chips makes that only half a complaint.

  • Jason R.

The salsa. Seriously. Bright, moderately hot, fresh-tasting salsa made there. Good stuff. Our neighbor turned us onto this "dive." My wife brought home the salsa, and I was hooked. The food is good, cheap, and plentiful. The tacos (both soft and hard) are as plain as you expect without further instruction. The enchiladas are quite good and a touch smokey. the burrito wasn't quite what I expected, but it was ok. The ground beef ingredients are full fat, so... The refried beans made me happy, particularly once I start mixing them with the beef fat drippings and scooping it up in chips with (yes!) more salsa. And no one around me had reason to be unhappy afterwards. Good corn tortillas are available (no gluten), and my wife likes them.

Don't let the outside scare you away. Simple decor, friendly service and great food inside. Recently redone and under new management this place is a hidden gem. I will definitely be back. The chimichanga and enchiladas are my favorites. Salsa is a little spicy so be prepared and enjoy!

went and tried El Mexicano last night...very good! other half got the super burrito which appeared humongus, by time done.... nothing but tin foil left...i got the carne asada plate...beef was very tender and i enjoyed the meal tremendously... place nice and clean, and you could tell staff focused on good service --good food- will definitely be back...... glad to have tried it, liked it and have another choice to go eat at every now and again!!! i am with Michele R dont let the location scare you..... want some really good food..check this place out!

Good fresh food. Glad to see this place open with a "freshened up" look and good food too. Fresh nicely presented mexican food. I want to go back. You should try it out.

Good food. Very sketchy location and place. The bathroom is like those in Mexico. I didn't come here to hang out. The food was excellent and the home made hot sauce was really tasty. Great sauces on the enchiladas as well. Salsa was good as well. Very very cheap. Good deal. I will be back.

The building is very run down, which I was hoping would be a sign of good, real food. It wasn't. The cheese dip tasted slightly sour, the salsa like tomato paste, and they don't serve beer or have any desserts. We split a combo that came with a taco, chalupa, chile relleno, and two enchiladas. The meal was ok, but not good enough for us to come back.

This restaurant did its job. The waitress was nice and attentive. The food came out in a timely order, and it was GOOD! We specifically looked for El Mexicano before we dropped by Starlight Movie Theatre down the street. I'd heard a little about it, and you know sometimes it's the "sketchiest" places that produce absolutely amazing food, so the fact that it's on Moreland Avenue meant nothing to me. It was pretty easy to find, parking lot space is ample. We went on a Wednesday during rush hour, so we pretty much were the only ones inside except for two big, burly dudes. The waitress was nice. I noticed something, though. In Hispanic culture, if there's a combo of men and women at the table, women do not get addressed, initially. They speak directly to the man; although, when a woman does speak, she's then spoken back to. It's a "respect" thing, I was told. Eh, just have my damn order right, por favor. As you know, they start you off with tortilla chips and salsa, housemade. Delicioso. The salsa definitely wasn't from the can. It was fresh and the chips were warm and left a nice film of grease behind. Oh well, no one declared this place healthy. I ordered the number 19, which if I can remember correctly was 2 enchiladas, a taco loaded with beef, lettuce, cheese, and guacamole. The enchiladas were awesome, topped with gooey, melty, mozarella cheese. The sweet tea? Awesome... I don't know exactly what kind of tea it is, but I wanted cup after cup of it. Good stuff. 5 stars; no complaints.

Probably the best choice of random restaurant decor I've ever seen. There's an old fish tank that houses a nativity scene, posters of frolicking kittens, and a Santa Claus figurine that stays up year-round. Really puts you in the mood for tacos. Nothing bad to say about the food, but nothing great either. The staff had no objections to us bringing a cooler full of drinks inside...feel like that speaks volumes for the general atmosphere of the place. FYI: It's located on the shadier side of Moreland (is there a not shady side?). Mention their website and get 10% off your meal.

This is the best Mexican I have had in Atlanta. The food it fresh, affordable, and absolutely delicious. This has become my go-to spot to bring people to for lunch and dinner, and no one has been disappointed. Friendly staff as well. I am so happy to finally have a place like this on the east side.

  • Rajib S.

Scary looking on the outside, but everyone in the restaurant is very friendly and all the serving people I talked to spoke English, so there were no language barriers. As a transplant from Texas, I really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. It's not authentic mexican and not particularly mind-boggling but it does satisfy my primal need to have cheap tasty mexican food nearby.

  • Faye H.

Apparently, the lady cook was giving away free food and got into fights with the owner and they either let her go or she quit first. You can tell a difference in the salsa, the way the food is cooked, the quality is not so great. They initially told me she was on vacation (which while they did not need to give me the reason she was fired, they didnt have to tell me she was on vacation) so I wish they'd been honest and said she just didn't work there anymore. She was the best cook ever. I'm between 2-3 stars now.

The highlight of our trip here was the offer to wash our car from the gentleman in the parking lot. I love a dive as much as anyone, but I feared for my life here. I'm sure the kitchen is top notch but the dining room was dirty and I was afraid to touch the silverware. I'll hit mi barrio for "authentic" Mexican instead.

I LOVE the El Mexicano. In fact I pretty much echo James' review to a tee, right down the fish aquarium nativity scene. What a wonderful hole in the wall to get stuffed full of authentic mexican served by friendly people for not much $$ at all. This place is a real secret, and I'm surprised its so slow. Very hard to spot as its dimly lit and about 1.5 miles down Moreland from EAV, across the street and down from the Kroger. Uno Mas Cerveza Por Favor!!

  • Andrew N.

This is a little dive-ish looking place set back from Moreland in a freestanding building and large parking lot. It looks like they have the potential for large crowds. Two things off the bat: the food is very inexpensive, and the staff were pleasant (starting point 3 stars). No Horchata, and no Chile Rellenos today... two strikes against. The torn up seats, and greasy menus... another strike. If I hadn't read such rave reviews of this place, we would have walked out right then. We pressed on. They were very slow on a Sunday at 1 pm. Not a great sign considering many folks were heading back from the flea market (as we were) on such a beautiful day. The wife settled on the enchilada combo with a side tamale, and I ordered the carnitas de puerco. After going quickly and guiltily through 1.5 baskets of chips and fresh salsa (very tasty and a big plus), the food arrived. My carnitas were tender, not too salty, nor overloaded with seasoning, and with a good low level heat. These were probably the best I had ever had (another big plus). However, I tasted the enchiladas and tamale. Each were just too bland. I know suave is supposed to be a good thing in many latin american dishes, but too suave is just not very exciting (a big minus). So the verdict: starting with 3: -1 no horchata -1 out of Chile Rellenos -1 gringy and worn down +2 awesome salsa and good chips +2 fantastic carnitas -2 bland tamale and enchiladas ----------- 2 stars.... but wait there's more: +1 nativity scene on display and secured within a 40 gallon aquarium ----------- 3 stars. I probably won't be back, unless it's to pick up some carnitas to go.

Very good, cheap food. Had an issue with their health inspection a year or so ago, but seem to have recovered.

I would have never braved this place alone without the positive Yelp feedback. I live in the neighborhood and have driven by the location many times thinking it were no longer open. Like everyone says, the outside looks a bit messy and dilapidated. And the lot is unusually huge. The inside, not much better...torn bench cushions and greasy menus. However, there was a spattering of lunch folks (blue-collar guys and a few professionals), and after noting the health score of 90, I figured to give it a whirl. Again, like everyone says, the food is cheap! A speedy gonzalez is $3.75. wow! The very friendly waiter soon delivered water and a canned soda with ice cup (no margaritas here). I opted for the enchiladas supremas to get a little sample of different tastes. Also got a side of rice. Mexican rice is important. I munched on the decent salsa y chips for only about four minutes before my food arrived. My suspicions were aroused because there was no warning of "hot plate"...and indeed it was not. But I was suddenly overcome with an exquisite aroma wafting around. Really? Is this dark, yummy, chili-specked enchilada sauce tickling my nose with the subtle scent of cinnamon?? YES, it was. Folks, the enchiladas were very tasty. I was surprised to see a few "meh" comments below on the enchis, but for me, the sauce was excellent, as well as the filler for each one (white cheese, shredded chicken breast, refried beans and not-scary ground beef). They were topped with shredded lettuce, a dollop of sour cream, lettuce and tomato slice. The rice was good...just straight up mexican rice..a bit crumbly and not and sticky and not in all the right spots. $10 I'll be back.

After reading the fanatical reviews on here I decided to give this place a try. I rounded up a trusting companion and off we went. After seeing the sign for this place I said 'turn into here'. I was meet with a look of both horror and intrigue as we pulled up into what seemed like the parking lot of a restaurant that had been abandoned for at least 5 years. 'Are you sure it's open?' was the first question. Yes, it was open. There's some intense wilderness behind the restaurant, too, which I found almost more interesting than the ancient decor inside. As the other reviewers point out, everyone was extremely friendly, providing us with some of the best service I've seen in all of Atlanta. I don't mean to imply that this place upscale by any means, just that it's staffed by some really nice people. The chips and salsa were dope. The food was so cheap that I almost ordered two plates because I couldn't believe that I could get anything substantial for this little. Lucky I didn't. The food was far from anything authentically Mexican (having lived in Mexico I can vouch for the others on here who say the same) but it was OK for what is basically a versatile taco joint. Can't complain considering how cheap it was, though. Here's the kicker: before going there I looked on their website and found a coupon for either half-off any second dish of equal or lesser value or 10% off everything. It said that you didn't even need to print it out, but just mention it when you were going to pay. I printed it out just to make sure. So I go to pay and I show the guy this coupon, to which the guy responds "haha, no, it no work". Huh? Yeah, well, apparently it doesn't work. No explanation, no condolences, it just simply does not work. At least he smiled the whole time he repeated this to me. I guess I should have expected nothing less from a total dive like this. Oh well, I think they might have actually lost money if they accepted the coupon. All in all, I wouldn't make the trip out there again unless just for the crazy looking structure next door (apparently a homeless hotel). If you just so happen to be that far down Moreland than I'd give it a shot, but don't try the coupon unless you like blunt but friendly rejections.

The mi barrio of south moreland. If youre into value village and that crazy liquidation center next to it where half the stuff isnt for sale you'll love this place. you can feed two large appetites and get those wierd mini mugs of beer for under 20 dollars. Im glad this place is freestanding and next to the homeless hotel (that thing with the tree growing through it) I call that atmosphere- The nativity scene and the kitten poster complete the alluring ambience.. Forever I love The Mexican Restaurant.

Finally! Good Tex-Mex! I am overly excited due to a long standing record of major disappointment with Mexican fare in Atlanta. Who0t, I say! A friend had advised me ,years ago, that this was a choice spot for "Georgia styled" south of the border by the numbers. I laughed the notion of due to the appearance. Well, i was WRONG. Yesterday, the ever present "what do you want for lunch" debate made the daily round at the shop. Mexican is brought up at least twice a week.. And having run the gamete of local joints, I decided to take a chance. I called in an order, something I don't advice for first timers or for big, complicated orders. There is no to-go or online menu so, there is something lost in translation. I had the beef enchiladas and rice, my valentine, a rice and bean burrito. I set out to pick up my order with no idea of the cost. And was beyond surprised at the total. $7 for everything! Including chips and salsa. That alone had me stoked on the place. It is very shabby, from the parking lot to the interior. But the serve is great and the price is right. My food was excellent. The chips were fresh, the salsa was thin and perfectly tasty. My enchiladas were outstanding. Corn tortillas wrapped around yummy ground beef, topped with thick sauce. And the rice gets extra points for being just rice. Cooked and spiced perfectly with no vegetables! I do not know who decided spanish rice should contain veg-all, but they need a punch in the groin. My bud says the burrito was "super-tasty". So all in all, it was a very pleasant meal. I will definitely be frequenting The Mexican on Moreland more often.

I wasn't really looking for authentic Mexican fare. I know where I can get that in Atl. I was looking for the combo meals and the cheese dip; something to eat when I miss Taqueria in Athens. Did I find it? Well... yes and no? My first impression was "Are they open?" followed by a strong impulse to turn around and high tail it in the other direction. Yeah, the place looks rough. It's a sketchy, falling apart building in a sketchy parking lot. And by sketchy, I mean there were a couple of dudes set up washing people's cars with buckets of water in the corner of the parking lot. Walking in, it didn't get much better. Falling apart booths and falling apart menus. The whole dining experience was a little awkward, probably due to the fact that the place was pretty much empty. Honestly, the appearance of the place had me a little scared to eat my food, but I fearlessly pressed on. Cheese dip and an enchilada with rice and beans. To my surprise, they were pretty good. Just what I was looking for, anyhow. And I didn't get sick! Oh yeah, and lunch for 2 was 10 bucks. Yeah, dirt cheap. So will I make the trek all the way down to Grant Park for dirt cheap, tasty Mexican food out of a sketchy, falling apart building? Probably.

yah, yah, yah. i know these mexican restaurants that are so "authentic" are a dime a dozen. but el mexicano my friends is the real deal. i used to joke and refer to the joint as "el salmonella" because it just looks like the type of place you could find those little bacteria running around. but here's the deal. this place is freaking good. really good. it's a dumpy little building a few miles south of i-20 on moreland ave and it is truly your authentic hole in the wall mexican joint. on any given night you'll see more than a few mexican cowboys, duded up in leather coats and cowboy hats to go out. chivas will be playing football on the tv's and the servers will take a break from waiting on you to watch in anticipation at the thought of screaming GOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! as for the food, well it rocks. that's all there is to it. the "special dinner" plate is seriously two full plates of food for around seven bucks. it's nothing fancy, no lobster tacos here, but who cares. it's hearty burritos and tacos and chalupas and even a carne asada cooked with love and served with a smile. and seriously, there is a nativity scene in an aquarium. how can you go wrong with that?

I discovered El Mexicano one day while driving down Moreland Ave looking for a place to grab a beer where I figured I wouldn't know anyone. There's nothing nicer than taking an afternoon getting a little beer buzz while reading a book of random facts. El Mexicano seemed like just the perfect place. Settled right at the tip of the no man's land of Moreland Ave where East Atlanta ends and before Stockbridge begins you could easily mistake this place for being closed for business. Neon lights only half lit, grass growing threw the massive parking lot. Set against a giant field of kudzu the restaurant is almost dwarfed by the empty feeling of the surrounding area. Inside, depending on the day and time you go, is another story. It's not uncommon to see local hipsters and their ilk hanging out eating some food but you mostly get a large contingent of the local Hispanic population (the tv's and wait staff definitely cater to those who speak spanish) and the old school folks who have lived in the area for generations. The set up inside is warm and feels lived in like the place has been there for years. The food options are standard fair for typical Mexican restaurants and the beer choices are limited but they have pitchers and half pitchers that they serve with frosty mugs. Who doesn't love a frosty mug? They don't serve margaritas but they do have live music once or twice a week. The thing that really sets them apart is that they are exactly who they are. They are Mexicans (at least the owners are) serving Mexican food. The food isn't great by any means but it's absolutely delicious if that makes any sense. The salsa is a little runny but its exactly the kind that I like. The beef tastes like fatty beef and the cheese is super creamy/ cheesy. They don't get caught up in all the fusion jive where they have to have elaborate dishes that appeal to the yuppie crowd. They serve old school mexican style food that tastes great. I was there last night and will very likely get food from there again tonight. Try it out. You'll love it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
