Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

MY FOLKS & I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS AWFUL PLACE AGAIN! This location is apparently under new management and it shows! The management (the manager on duty during our visit Geovani Ramirez) there is not trained to deal with customer service issues, flirt with staff, are rude and cocky with customers, and worst of all racist!) The service is awful, slow, and most of the employees that work there have bad attitudes, give awful service, are rude, and arrogant. My waiter was the only nice person there who tried his best to give good service. I used to love El Azteca for it's Chimichanga. As it is the best one in Atlanta. However, they royally screwed it up this time, and it turned out to be more like a burrito with queso sauce instead (so it was soft and soggy after about less than 5 minutes). A chimichanga is supposed to be fried on the outside of the tortilla (filled with either beef or chicken) so that it has a nice crispy toasty shell with queso sauce on it. I had been going to El Azteca at this particular location in Sandy Springs on 5935 Roswell Rd for years. I have been to other locations (the other locations have better service). I rarely complain. However, even my friend (who has been to this same location and others with me over the years to eat) thought my chimichanga was soggy, gross and nothing like how it normally is. Also the shrimp I ordered was cold! This location seems to have an issue with bringing orders out as soon as they are ready. They delay bringing your food out, and this was another issue that contributed to my barely fried chimichanga being soggy so quick when this never happens. So we asked for a manager. Our waiter let us know that he would have to make a quick delivery across the street but that another waiter he introduced us to would gladly help us until his return. The waiter that was supposed to help us temporarily while our usual waiter was gone did not want to help us and it was very clear by her tone of voice and eye rolling when we asked her about our food that came out. After 11 minutes of waiting for the manager, we flag the waitress down to find out what the deal was with not seeing a manager and she gave us some bootleg relayed message that there was nothing she could do about the cold shrimp! So we asked to see the manager again. This time after yet another 10 minutes to add, the manager finally comes to our table. We explained to the manager on duty Geovani Ramirez what our issues were with my food and the awful service we were receiving so far by the temporary waitress (not our usual waiter for tht visit), and instead of him taking into consideration our sincere concerns, the man chose to instead become arrogant and defensive. He accused us of clowning around with eating our food, stating that our plates had been sitting for 30 minutes! Which was definitely not the case because we were so hungry we were ready to scarf our food down after it took forever to receive it! He argued with my friend, and I literally felt so embarrassed by the whole scenario. HE WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL & DIDN'T SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH! All I wanted was for my food to be replaced with a new fresh order cooked correctly and to be brought out in a timely fashion so that my food wouldn't just sit in their kitchen forever getting cold and soggy. I had no problem with paying for my food. I could've bought the whole menu. Money is never the issue. However the service is when I am paying and receiving bad food and awful service. We were in disbelief at how arrogant, rude, and non courteous this manager was. My friend and I have eaten at this same location and others many times before and rarely had any issues. I have brought so many of my friends and family to this place for years and I never will again. When our usual waiter returned, he was embarrassed by how the temporary waitress and manager poorly handled the situation. The manager forced him to take my plate if I didn't want to get charged for the bad food. Our usual waiter was so apologetic and offered to let me order anything off the menu on him. I quickly assured the nice young man that while I appreciated his kindness and courtesy, that I didn't think it would be fair for him to have to pay for his manager and the other waitress's poor service. Our usual waiter still insisted that he wanted to at least give us a complimentary dessert for the trouble. I really appreciated his willingness to correct the situation and take accountability that he was absent while all of the drama unfolded due to having to make a delivery. I accepted the complimentary dessert and tipped the young man well and thanked him for his generosity. As we were leaving El Azteca, we saw the on duty manager Geovani Ramirez again. We asked for his supervisor. He laughed at us, gave us Horbelin Castrejon's card & said "I'm sure the other manager will give you free food!" as if to insinuate that we were seeking a free meal! Racist.

Quick and inexpensive, plus cheap beer. I like it!

Maybe its just me but customer service must be dead. Bad customer service. The waiter did the basics. Sat me and my companion at a table..got our orders and high tailed it to some corner never to be seen again. Food was midiocre..I ordered what i always get rice, beans, and pork. Much like the mexican restaurant down the street EL TORO the food was for nurishment and nothing else. I got no enjoyment out of it. My drink was a simple cranberry juice which was watered down to the max...If you cant come correct on the juice that you pour out of a bottle everthing else will go down quickly and I have nothing good to say about this place other than thank god my companion was HOT.

my favorite pastime is Sunday afternoons drinking margaritas with my friends. i've visited this El Azteca location many many times, lastnight being one. Never really had a bad experience, the food isn't bad and the margaritas are pretty tasty. I don't adventure too much with the food selection...usually just the #5 combo ;-) Normally, i like to go to the Ponce location...strictly for margaritas/patio and people watching, however, boyfriend REFUSES to go to the Ponce location because of the bathrooms...?? anywho...give me a margarita and sunshine anyday and i'm a HAPPY camper!!!!!!
(3)Suzanne C.
The service is usually great. We have gone there at least twice monthly for years. Every now and then we get a waiter in a stinky mood. My daughter loves their cheese dip and warm salty chips. It's a perfect quick cheap family dinner and better than average for Tex Mex. Their margaritas are awesome but are usually quite strong.
(5)Kelly D.
There really isn't bad about this place, they have it all, the 2 different areas where great, because being a smoker, I like to smoke, but i also like to sit in the non smoking sections from time to time, and they didn't limit me to that. The food was great, took little time to get it out there to me. It was deliciously cooked, The servers were great, I would definately recommend this place to everyone, it was exceptional.
(5)D D.
Love their chips, salsa and cheap Mexican food. I do find it odd that so many people were smoking while we were eating. Gross!
(2)Will S.
I have to agree with some of the other reviews here. The food here is nothing that stands out, and is about the same as you'd get from any other corner Mexican place. Although it seems that it is popular, even just passing by there are always crowds of people there, which tells me I will have to give this place another try.
(3)Andre S.
We all know what to expect from un-authentic, authentic Mexican restaurant. You eat too many beans and cheese, and you get the toots. However, my enchilada combo sampler like platter with a chicken, bean, beef, and cheese options, was pretty decent, even tasty, and thank goodness, no tooting followed it. Good thing, my coworkers would have liked me very well. The lunch service as very quick, and our waiter was quick to refill our liter sized glasses, and our warmed home made tortillas. Not bad, El, not bad at all!
(3)Thomas B.
Good Margaritas and always great service but they do always have issues splitting the bill. Different locations offer different items but the chili relleno, fish tacos, and fajita quesadilla are some of my favorite choices. Great patio spot to hang in the spring-fall. Food always come out fast and a few beers to choose from but you can get them in 32oz... Love It!
(3)Cherrica M.
Love, love, love their margaritas!!!! The service is always good here and sometimes on a nice day El Azteca patio is good for people watching.
(3)Mel R.
Quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. They have a smoking section, which is nice since most of Atlanta is smoke free and I am a smoker, however that is the end of things that I like about this place. My boyfriend and I were seated at a booth around a large group of people who were really loud and they were running back and forth from their huge table to another table right behind ours. We managed to get some stale chips and ok salsa right after we were seated, but our waiter took 25 minutes to get to our table to even take our drink order. We were hoping that was the end of our terrible experience. Unfortunately, we were just getting started. The waiter brought our drinks and promptly disappeared for another ten minutes. By the time we were able to order, we were thoroughly famished. The food was ok - normal fare for any run of the mill Mexican place in Atlanta. There wasn't anything special about it until I dipped my fork into the refried beans that came with my enchilada and taco and pulled out a long, black hair. Our waiter had again disappeared, so I asked another waiter to get him. He came to our table about 10 minutes later and I showed him the hair. He said he would have to take it to a manager for them to inspect the plate, but that if his manager said it was ok, they would probably take it off. After consulting with his manager, he came back to the table and told us that my meal would be subtracted from our bill, but that it was strange because no one in the kitchen had hair. Well, someone must have because it certainly wasn't mine! Not only was I disgusted by finding the hair of someone who's hygiene was unknown to me, but I was also indirectly accused of planting it there! I had thoroughly lost my appetite when the manager saw the untouched taco on my table (it was on a separate plate from everything else) and jokingly asked me if I was going to finish. I told him that I wasn't feeling well after the hair I'd found in my food. He said that next time, it would be better and I politely informed him there would not be a next time. Summary: The food is normal and over priced. The service sucks. They apparently do have someone with long hair involved in food preparation and they shed. EWWWW! Never ever again!

We go to El Azteca after belly dance class and the chicken soup is to die for. It's a meal all alone! The chips are great and the cheese dip comes with or without jalapenos. Most of the ground beef and chicken dishes are bland, but the fajitas are good if you can get them to not over cook them. Drinks were average, stick with beer, and the service is pretty good.

So it is a goal of mine to try Mexican food whenever I am visiting another town. I wasn't going to in Atlanta but by chance I ended up eating here. The place is in a strip mall and looks pretty cool on the outside...I bet HH is pretty jumping at this place. Inside it is kind of dark and smells of fried foods. We got seated and a waiter brought out chips and salsa. Good chips.....bad salsa...not hot and tasted to much like tomatoes. The menu looked promising and I was leaning towards a shrimp dish but since we short of time I decided to go with a "Rositas Special".....one chicken enchilada and one chicken taco with rice or beans. Both chicken dishes were bland and the taco actually reminded me of a Taco Bell taco. The beans on the other hand were pretty good. Overall...a nice place for a quick and cheap lunch but I wouldn't go other wise..thankfully my friends said there are better places in Atlanta.
(2)Sabrina M.
I LOVE this patio. There's nothing super special about it, but God help me I love it. Well, I take that back. It's pretty big. Actually there are two...one for smoking and one for non-smoking. And they are both good spots to post up and enhance your margarita drinking skills. The food is okay. Nothing too spectacular, but the margaritas are NICE!
(3)Cece N.
I went to El Azteca today to watch the basketball game and I was neither impressed or unsatisfied. I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly and checked up upon often. The price is reasonable also. I ordered fajita nachos and the portion was more than I expected. It was not busy but maybe because I went there on a Sunday afternoon but I like the set up of the place. They have a nice outdoor patio and the bar is open with at least 6 flat screens. This would be a perfect place to enjoy the patio on summer evenings...

Perhaps the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to in Atlanta. The food was bad; the spinach in the quessedilla was tasting nasty; probably they used some old stuff. The waitress was very rude, as someone else has pointed out here. What was worth was only the chips, which was also just ordinary. Would never recommend this for anyone. If you need to eat much tastier, healthier food for much cheaper price, just cross the road and go to Chipotle across the street.
(1)Lauren S.
Pretty good food. Good prices. Bad service-- rude waiter. Same experience on both times I visited this location. With all the Mexican restaurant options, I'd recommend going elsewhere.
(3)Jose A.
It is a good place to hang out. The food its good too. they have Mariachis on wednesdays and I think they also have them on Sunday.
(3)Vang H.
Remember those cheap Mexican joints you went to while you were in college because you were on a strict budget? You know the ones- the service was okay, there were endless baskets of chips and salsa you could gorge yourself with, eat some overly greasy food... and then wash it down with margaritas... all for under 15 bucks? Well this is it folks!
(2)Sheri D.
I used to love this place, but in the last few years the food quality has really gone downhill. Today our chicken burrito was just nasty. The tortilla tasted like mush, and the service SUCKED! In fact, this was the first time in my life, I did not leave a tip and I feel fine about it. Thank God for their drinks and patio. This may as well just turn into a bar from now on.
(2)Chriss F.
My friend and I walked in at 10 minutes before closing. I told them we would come back the next day. They said noooo come in. They served us great food and the margaritas on ice were the best I have ever had..and I have had a lot. Yes, service was a little slow and you wondered if they forgot about you. I thought it was going to be the normal mexican but it was suprizingly fantabulous.
(4)Susan W.
Good food, but I have to give a poor review because I am SO disappointed that this restaurant allows smoking inside. I am from Atlanta but now live in Colorado where smoking is not allowed inside any restaurant. Secondhand smoke is dangerous to everyone, including the employees working inside that have to be exposed to it everyday. Even though I have always loved the food at El Azteca, I do not plan to ever return until they prohibit smoking indoors.
(1)Josh K.
I think they meant to build this thing in Reno, judging by the festival of neon lights they've hung on it. The food is good and cheap. Lots of seating and the place is clean. Could do better on the service but overall this is a good "go to" place for mexican food.
(3)Chanel S.
My favorite Mexican Restaurant! Authentic and Delicious! My family loves it too! The best Texas Fajitas in Town! The decor is cool and premises is clean. You won't be disappointed!
(5)Rachel A.
This place has become a new obsession! I crave their fajita nachos at least once a week, although I don't go that often. I try to go at least once a month. It's really a typical Mexican restaraunt. The drink cups are HUGE. The food is always on par. If you don't like a lot of noise, don't go on Wednesdays. Two words: mariachi band!
(4)Andy D.
Mexican food in Atlanta is generally the same across the board. You're either going to love the food or you won't. With that said, my poor rating for El Azteca is based soley on their poor service. This location is right off of Roswell Rd which makes it a prime spot for a quick business lunch hour. Well, apparently they didn't get that memo. I came twice for lunch, and I won't be going back. I only went back the second time because I thought my first trip was a fluke. When I sat down, I was quickly greeted with chips and salsa. Here's a big no no.....if your customer is already halfway through with his basket of chips and salsa before you take a drink order, you (the server) are not doing your job. My lunch orders are always simple at Mexican restaurants. I either get the Speedy Gonzalez (taco, enchilada, rice and beans) or 3 tacos. It shouldn't take 15 minutes. It shouldn't take 15 minutes even if the place is packed. On top of this, I have NEVER received a single drink refill while dining here. Why should I drop $10 for my lunch if I'm not going to enjoy the experience??? I never leave bad tips because I used to be a waiter....but I was tempted to on both trips. Save your time and money: Go somewhere else.

There is only one reason to go here - the deck. If you're meeting a group of friends with the intention of drinking and shouting a lot this is a good place. Is it super clean? No. Will some drunk guy fall in your lap when he tries to walk by? Yes. Margaritas are good, but a tad bit overpriced given what you can find at better Mexican restaurants. Food - I don't know anyone who comes here to eat a meal. Do you? Salsa's on the cheap side too, but you won't notice if you have your head in a drink. I think of this place as the convience option when I'm too lazy to drive some place fantastic..
(2)carey s.
Best Deck in town! I don't know why the other reviewers are giving this place mediocre to bad comments. There is nothing wrong with El Aztecat at the corner of Roswell & Hamond at all. It is a fantastic place to meet up with friends. It's cheap. The food and drinks taste good. And, you can't go wrong with chips & salsa. Over the years, the service has been hit or miss at times, but generally speaking, it's not bad. They have 2 decks - one that allows smoking that has more of a hang-out scene. The other side usually has more families, but both are good. Go here to chill out and relax with friends!
(5)David S.
The food here is garbage, stick with the chips and salsa and drink your dinner. Good patio to sit on and watch the frustrated drivers on Roswell Rd. If they didn't have a nice patio they would probably be out of business. If you want good Mexican food hit Tortas Locas further down the road before hand.
(2)Lori T.
i have had better mexican food but this place isn't too bad. chips and salsa is good. queso is yum. i like the fajita burritos (huge - you'll take some home). was serenaded by a trio of mariachi band once night. service is okay.
(3)Blues B.
Overpriced, mediocre mexican food. The atmosphere is nice thougg, and they throw a great Cinco de Mayo party every year. There food is always over greasy and under spiced. Even on the border is better. If you just want take out (sparse interior) Taco Veloz down roswell road has much much better food.
(2)Dru J.
Always consider the source. My brother, while being forced to take MARTA, met a snaggle toothed man who highly recommended this...joint. We chose to sit on the deck overlooking beautiful Roswell Road. In all fairness, it is a nice deck as suburban decks go. We went with the special, a pitcher of Dos Equis which came with "free" cheese dip and chips. While waiting for this "special" we noshed on salsa and chips. The salsa was so diluted that when I spilled some on my white shirt, it left no mark. Ahh, thank you, the beer has finally arrived. Wait a moment, this isn't London. Why is this beer piss warm? Well we can take solace in our "free" dip. After a close inspection, brother reported what appeared to be an overly generous amount of butter. His girlfriend was skeptical, so I sampled. How I kept from vomiting I'll never know. Lets get out of here. After trying to pay the bill for twenty minutes, I took it to the indoor register, which was surrounded by staff puffing on cigarettes. Oh, there you all are. Better use the bathroom. I went in and turned immediately around. The bathrooms in Grand Central smell better. CAVEAT EMPTOR! Eat here at your own risk. This place gets one star because I don't know how to give it zero stars.

So I did get back and remembered to order the El Azteca Special (shrimp, squash, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions, served with rice). It was good, even substantial, but not as much as I expected. I didn't even really notice the squash. But all in all, we had a good dinner, the chips and salsa were fine, my wife's T-bone steak too. Our server checked in on us several times, and the manager checked in once too. Besides the somewhat negative comment above about my order, I'd also say our meals seems a little slow in arriving. Otherwise, a persistent 3 star rating for El Azteca-Sandy Springs.
(3)john m.
Typical crummy American/Mexican place only good to get drunk. Salsa sucks, beans are runny and unseasoned, beef enchilada is ground meat rolled in tortilla, nothing else, and the chile rellino is the worst I have ever seen.
(1)Sierra T.
Went here today with my aunt who used to live up the street from this restaurant.2 words:Peach.MARGARITAS!Omg I had my frozen with sugar and it was to die for.My aunt had the hard shell tacos and I had there beef fajitas azteca from the lunch special menu. The steak was wonderfully cooked, not tough at all the guacamole was average and their pico de gallo was very fresh. The staff was very attentive to us and worked as a team to make sure we enjoyed our lunch.Definitely coming back with my friends!
(5)Peggy H.
First, I will start that we have been coming here every Wednesday afternoon for 3 years prior to our Bocce game because they have cold 32 oz draft Dos Equis for $5 on Wednesdays.... and the service is always horrible. Let me explain what I mean by horrible: They are very slow, have a bad disposition as though you are bothering them, and NEVER come back to see if you need something after getting your drink or food. You have to hunt them down to get anything from them. I have been here for lunch too and the experience is the same. So, same service no matter when I have gone and mediocre food, so nothing to really write a review about until....what happened this past Wednesday. Our bill was $18 for 2 beers and chips/dip and I gave the server $25. He didn't offer to bring back ANY change and I believe in tipping but this was ridiculous. He was horrible and he thought he deserved a 44% tip??? Oh, an there were 5 other people at the table so my tip was not the only one he was getting. In my opinion, that was poor taste.
(2)Dave B.
I don't see how El Azteca is still in business when you have real tex-mex in Atlanta now like Chuy's and Uncle Julios, and you have great authentic Mexican from places like Tres Hermanos. We thought we'd try it after probably 10 years since our last visit. The service was fine - it's why there are two stars, but the food is awful. I had the Enchiladas Supremas - they were covered with wet wilted lettuce and marginal tomatoes, the cheese was had fused its way into the tortillas as if it had been re-baked after being melted once before. The worst part was how there was a pool of water around the enchiladas - making the bottom halves a soggy, rubbery mess. My wife had the combo with an enchilada, taco, and tostada - her taco was ok, but she had the same problem with the enchilada - it was just a wet, gross mess. By the time she made her way to the tostada/chalupa thing, it was soaked, soft, and rubbery. I don't understand how they can let food go to the table this way - they might as well put them in a blender and make smoothies.
(2)Nina H.
Service was good, food was fine. We sat on the patio and drank margaritas. The atmosphere was good. Music was loud enough to block street noise, but we could still carry on a conversation as well. Our food came pretty quickly for being a busy Saturday night. Highlight of my plate was the chile relleno. It was covered in queso, which I wasn't expecting, but it was really good anyway. Free chips and salsa were tasty too.
(3)Lamar M.
Pretty good for the money nothing special nice on a sunny day to sit out and enjoy a 32oz Dos o yeah STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS
(3)Kate S.
We love El Azteca. Namely, good cheap Mexican food with REALLY good margarita deals. Their top pitcher is only $21.99 or so. We probably average eating here about two to three times a month. It is very standard, typical, traditional Mexican food. Nothing fancy about the enchiladas, chimichangas, quesadillas, etc. They marinate their chicken, which my guy loves, and then they use that marinaded chicken in all their dishes from tacos to burritos. For me, I am driven by what cheese a Mexican restaurant uses. Lately some places have been using mozzarella, and that is NOT what I want at a Mexican place! Queso fresco is what I want, and El Azteca sticks with it! Shredded or melted in queso dip, that's their cheese and it is perfect. We have only had questionable service once, and it was not our server that was the problem. We were sat (in a different section than normal, but that's okay), and we continued to sit, and sit, and sit. I also noticed a mother with her two little girls next to us had not been served yet either, and they had been their longer! Finally, after about 10 minutes, we flagged down one of the servers who had been passing by while servicing her tables. She helped the table with the two girls and flagged someone else down to assist us. We still do not know what happened to our original server or even who it was supposed to be, but once we had been helped, our server was great. Food is always fast and hot, and they keep making sure your margarita glass is filled. We love this location, and it is actually cleaner and nicer than most Mexican restaurants with the same style of food. My only qualm is they have a smoking section, and you can always smell it when you walk in to the hostess stand. Other than that, all is great!
(4)Marianna B.
Seriously should have believed the reviews about the customer service here. It. was. terrible. I can only imagine that the other reviews that were positive were due to good food or drinks. Food was okay, not great, but okay. However, this could not overcome the total dislike every staff member had for being there. The hostesses were odd and spacey when we walked in - giggling in a way that makes you uncomfortable. Very weird right off the bat. We were largely ignored during our meal by our waitress. Noticed another table that had to request to be served and the waiter that came to help was not happy to help. DON'T do it - don't go here! Oh and the bathrooms were kinda gross too.
(1)Jay W.
Food was good. I had the super burrito, didn't seem super but it was good- salsa that covered it did make it watery. Rice on the other hand dry and overcooked but did have a Mexican flavor. The salsa could be improved, tasted like store bought Pace ( which I hate). The cheese dip was great! Music from the Mariachi band was fun, loud but fun.
(3)Mandy W.
We really enjoyed our lunch here today. Even though they were busy we received excellent service and tasty hot delicious food. There was a slight wait (for a table) but it was worth it. The food was very flavorful and the quality of the ingredients was noticeable. We will definitely be back when we are in the area.
(4)David N.
Avoid this place at all costs. I will state this very plainly - it has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced in the USA, and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants in my life. Restaurant was not even half full of customers, and had a lot of waitresses standing around. We were seated, and it then took them 15 mins to bring chips and salsa and take drink orders. It took another 10 mins to get our drinks and then they were not even correct. The waitress disappeared and did not come back until we had another waitress track her down. It was 30 mins before we were able to place our orders, and then the waitress never even got all of the orders. At the 50 min and at the 1 hr mark, I went looking for the manager, and he was no where to be found. Another 5 mins later, I saw him and approached him. I told him how we still didn't have all orders taken, and that we had been there an hour already. His response was (and I quote), "if you want to leave, then leave." No manager should ever act like that to his customers. At that point, I definitely got upset, and decided to take my group elsewhere. He said again - "if you want to leave, then leave." - there is no confusion in that statement. I took my group to another place, where we had much better service. I am one of those that always tips over 20% if the service is adequate. If the service is excellent, I leave an extra large tip. This place was so bad that even a penny would be massively over-tipping them. Avoid this location, unless you want the worst service in America. None of these people should be employed in any customer service industry, with their attitude and laziness. I used to eat at El Azteca all the time when they had one on Buford Hwy, and it was always good, but this one is the polar opposite. Se the other reviews - it's obviously not an isolated incident.

My girlfriend and I wanted to try a new restaurant, and we saw this restaurant and decided to give it a go... When we got out the car there was music playing and you could hear it out to the parking lot, and we expected a fun environment. As we walked in everything went down hill! The two hostess seemed annoyed that we came in. As we got seated the server gave us a dirty look as well. She left and never came back, but finally another guy came to take out order but he wasn't friendly either. I felt like every person working hated their job. I do want to say the only person that spoke to us and genuinely cared for our time at the restaurant was the food runner. Big shout out to the older gentleman! The food wasn't good either to top it off... Bad service and bad food... Never again!

Steak tacos consist of nothing but taco shell and steak. Confirmed by phone that they didn't just get order wrong. Nope, that's their definition or a steak taco.

Margaritas are on point-nice and strong! Sebastian (server), was very sweet and charming. Fun atmosphere, great bachata. We managed to stay there almost FIVE hours, drinking, talking, and laughing! Service is quite slow overall. Food is AWFUL! I have never had such bad tasting Mexican food before. Even the nachos were gross- saturated with beans that weighed all of the chips down, and was a mess to eat. Salsa looks and tastes like tomato paste- with no seasoning. Margaritas and the FREE chips and "salsa" for me. NO more food. All set.

Been visiting here for a while now so review is not based on just one visit. The biggest plus of this restaurant is location and the fact that they have an excellent patio. Other than that everything is downhill. Service used to be better but looks like they got rid of quite a few good staff and what we have now is rude, inefficient waiting staff who do not understand basic instructions. Food was below average- For a Mexican restaurant , their standards are lower than Taco Bell..That should summarize. Guacamole was an assortment of tomatoes and onions and oh yeah..wee bit of an avocado..lol Salsa seemed like a Tomato Paste out of a can. I don't see any reason other than location and the patio, to visit and eat here. Thumbs down

Honestly I love this Restaurant. I have heard a lot of bad things about this place but I still give them a 4 stars in my opinion. Its a wonderful family atmosphere. I have been going there since I was at least 5 maybe even younger! I absolutely love the Mariachi Band! Its a fun place to hang out at with yummy Mexican food! I will continue going! LOVE IT!

Best tamales in Atlanta! Service was great and the Sunday buffet was delicious - literally everything was amazingly good!! AND the owner is a class act. This is our Sunday afternoon tradition. LOVE this place!!!
(5)Jen L.
I've been here a number of times and really enjoyed it! The food is good and the atmosphere isn't bad. In the summer days, we would eat dinner on the patio and enjoy a good game on the televisions outside. This particular time, we only had margaritas because it was just that kind of week! A pitcher of the frozen mango margaritas really hit the spot. The servers were really nice and helpful in picking the flavor of the beverage. There are many TVs even in main dining room. There's a smoking and non-smoking section of the restaurant which is definitely good to know in advance. I believe there's a live mariachi band on certain days of the week as well (can't remember which days though). El Azteca is good for big groups and children. They do serve complimentary chips and salsa before your meal or beverage purchase. This is a chain restaurant but if you're looking for a good drink after a long day, I'd give this place a try.

I had forgotten that I have visited this El Azteca before. That I had forgotten it (and never reviewed it) is a very telling thing. This time, we visited this place to take part in a trivia tournament. We were seated outside in the cold. (Even as a party of two was given the last indoor table for a party of six right before we got there.) And there were significant delays in service. Our waiter wasted no time in getting us our drinks, but then it was quite some time before we saw him again (we had to ask for him so we could order some food). Once we had placed an order, things started moving like clockwork. Our food was filling, but it was average. And the price point for "average" seemed kinda high. If I want cheap tex-mex, there are other places I would choose to get it.

Happy Boss day....1 week late but still we celebrate and this happens to be her all time favorite Mexican restaurant. Now ordinarily I'd frown up at the use of lawn chairs for indoor dining and the ever so slow service but this is the 1 place close to my job where they have Horchata! And whenever I get Horchata I feel like I'm right at home in an authentic Mexican restaurant. Not a lot of people know about it but let me just say that El Azteca;s "Rice Water" will quench a dying man's thirst on a terrible Tuesday. I love it that much. So no matter how long it takes to bring out my small plate from the lunch menu and you forget to bring the 5th set of utensil's for all diners in my party. I will still give you an A for effort because at least you attempted to be authentic and the food isn't bad either well maybe the black beans could be a little less runny but overall I'll be back... Yay El Azteca.

horrible service not 1 time did the waitress came and offer a refill !!!! waited 15 minutes before i got service from another waiter !!!! then the waitress try to demnad a tip !!!!!!! unbelievable !!!!!!!!!!!! Food wasn't great and skinny margarita was nasty !!!

Poor service horrible service and even more terrifying food. I am a frequent El Azteca customer usually at the Buckhead area where the service and food are always impeccable and exquisite. I always get the Azteca dip. My signature dish. I figured by it being the same chain, I would have the same experience. Wrong!! My server was completely inattentive. Had to ask for water and actually get up to get my utensils. My sole purpose was to get come in and grab a margarita. He never offered a drink menu nor a good menu. How you not give a food menu! When my food finally came it was barely properly plated. Nor was even right. I couldn't even eat ANY of it. So I got my ass up and with no explanation walked out. If it hadn't been for the buckhead location I would be done with Azteca but luckily ...

We were trying to explore new Mexican restaurants in the area. The service here was friendly but slow. Our waiter made it a point to show us the large order that came in before us. I had combo plate that included a taco and a chile relleno. The chile relleno was more a glob of cheese than a true chile relleno. Not impressed. Next.
(2)Raven C.
I randomly decided to hit this place up the other night. The food was pretty tasty. I got a taco and enchilada meal. I didn't love the enchilada because they used corn shells. But that's really just a personal preference. The cheese dips was awesome and delicious. I'm giving this place only three stars because I had absolutely awful service. The waitress rarely came by our table. I asked for the check and she put it in front of my boyfriend even though she could see my card in my hand. When she came back she placed the check in front of my boyfriend again. I felt she was rude the entire time the check thing really topped it off. Maybe I'll go back again but hopefully I won't get that waitress.

Didn't know this was a chain until I looked it up on Yelp....Wife and I gave it a try because it was close to home, while keeping in mind the fact that all of our Chicago friends said you couldn't get good Mexican food in Atlanta (or Pizza, or beefs, etc, etc, etc). They were wrong - good, flavorful fare - Nachos were fairly typical - The amazing thing about the place was the steak - wife got fajitas, I got a steak burrito....steak was as tender and flavorful as I've had in a Mexican place.....Then we got the bill....$34 for Fajitas, a burrito, nachos, and a couple of drinks - what a deal!!! We will be back.....often.

Love this place, the bartender, an older gentleman has great customer service, and is amazing! ! Food and drink s amazing as well!

I really like this El Azteca. Though the one on Ponce is closer to my home, this one is closest to my job, so I end up here sometimes. It's very spacious in this one and the service is always on point. Also, their salsa is much better than the one on Ponce. I want them to call up the Ponce location and let them in on the secret. This location has a good patio and parking is adequate. I was reading that they have a brunch deal going that I would like to check out one day. Both Els season the hell out of their chicken and that brings me back again and again. Also, they both can serve up a decent Margarita. As I was leaving on my Friday visit, some live entertainment was setting up. Gotta love that. When I'm in the mood for Mexican, one of my cornerstones is old El Azteca.
(4)Jennifer S.
I have been coming here for 3 years. I've always had a pleasant experience, inexpensive, quick Mexican food with great service. There is a smoking section, which I happen to enjoy. There is the standard chips and salsa to start, service is typically quick, food is typically fresh and cinco de mayo is always a blast here.
(4)Amy H.
Getting free nachos when you order a pitcher of margaritas is outstanding! The food at El Azteca is decent. This is one of my friend's favorite restaurants so I've been here a few times. He knows the staff and the service is always good. The margaritas are always refreshing.
(4)Rachel L.
Ive been eating queso and drinking margaritas as this establishment for about 15 years. Today, the craving hit. We walked in and was greeted by a young hostess. I asked for smoking and she said, "we dont have smoking available." Knowing there was a smoking section outside as well, I asked for that. She replied the samr as before but with more attitude and eye rolling. I gave her a look and asked for a table inside. She aksed the name, I asked how long the wait was. She sighed and said, "I'm not sure." Im sorry, isnt that your job??? I told her that she was rude and we're going to Chipotle. I understand the laid back, casual environment..but being rude is uncalled for.

Not quite sure why people come to this restaurant. The service is terrible. Once we were seated, it took 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. The restaurant was maybe 40% full (which in my mind reads not busy) and we barely had any service. Our food took forever and once it came out, it was simply ok. My tamale was beyond bland and tasted like it was reheated. The chicken was ok but nothing spectacular. The salsa they give on the table is straight from a vat and tastes super generic. Something that particularly disturbed me was the table next to us. They had four adults and an approximately 9yr old child sitting at it. The adults were HAMMERED and ordering shots like they were giving them away for free. These adults were slurring their words, swearing and saying creepy sexually charged things at the women who were sitting next to the kid. They people were ridiculous, however, my complaint was with their waitress who kept bringing them shot after shot after shot. I overheard an exchange where the waitress asked how they were getting home to which they all laughed and said "Not your business- bring our next round." and guess what? SHE DID! I found this incredibly unethical that this waitress and restaurant would feed into this [mind you it was 4PM on a Sunday...] and not have concerns with how these four drunk adults and one helpless kid were going to get home. Final complaint, once we finally got our bill, it took 30 minutes for our waiter to come back and pick it up!! We were at the restaurant forever. Ugh...won't be going back. What a terrible restaurant!
(1)Michelle B.
We eat here a lot to get our Mexican fix. It's a good place to go when you need cheese dip. The food is average' but sometimes below average. I prefer the Mexican place down the street with Tequila in the name, but this one is closer to my house and cheaper.
(3)Lauren P.
Our sweet neighbor gave us a Restaurant.com gift certificate for $25 to El Azteca. We decided to use if for a Saturday night date. At 8:30 p.m. the patio was hopping. Our server Nick was busy trying to take care of the 6 tables in his section (which personally was way too many to handle when we were all drinking and devouring chips). But Nick rocked it. He broke a sweat trying to take car of all his guests and went above and beyond to make sure we got everything. Nick was able to up-sell us from a 12 oz. draft of beer for $2.50 to a 32 oz. mug for $5.25. Since El Azteca right up the street from our house on Roswell Road we could afford to indulge in big beers. For an appetizer we noshed on cheese dip with jalapenos. As an entree, we shared the fajitas for two which came with chicken, shrimp, steak and all the fixings. When we asked Nick about dessert, he recommended the churros with ice cream (delicious)! Our tab for the evening came out to $40, so after the gift certificate with tax and tip we walked out of El Azteca for $20. For the buzz and happy tummy it was a good deal. Y'all may be thinking "why just three stars?" Well, minus 1 because I didn't realize they allowed smoking on the patio. If I was a smoker I would totally dig El Azteca for allowing me to puff away and sip margaritas...but I'm not. The other negative star is the food quality. At these prices, I'd much rather go to Tacos & Tequilas. Now if I wanted to get hammered in Sandy Springs with friends who smoke, I'll buy another Restaurant.com gift certificate an throw down like an Aztec warrior.

Margarita. Check. Chips and Salsa. Check. Wait, nachos comes with a pitcher? We really dont need the chips and salsa then, right? Ah, what the heck. Check. Mexican Guac. Uh, nevermind. Its too chunky. I ordered the fish tacos and they sent my blood pressure sky high! LOL They were flavorful, but way too salty. The queso was good. The nachos were okay, with burnt queso on top lol The strawberry margarita was on point and pretty strong. I love Mex, so you cant really go wrong with that - only the salty fish and thats not cool.
(3)Jason W.
Hands down the worst Mexican I have ever eaten. And, I'll add that I will try any and every Mexican joint-it's kinda like Pizza, hard to mess up. Well folks, I found the worst tasting Mexican on the planet... I had the carne asada tacos which were marinated-wtf? and too salty to even enjoy. I made my friend that was with me taste them just to make sure It wasn't just me. She spit it out and said it tasted and smelled like dog food, a comment I really couldn't refute. On to her, umm enchiladas. They looked terrible from my side of the table so I wasn't even going to try them. She ate a few bites and threw in the towel-keep in mind this chick is not picky and will eat just about anything ;) Chips sucked but the salsa shined in this vast wasteland of cisco, pre-prepared crap. Service was actually very friendly and they comped the enchiladas and gave her a free taco-yay!!! more s#$**y food!!!! Waiter was a bit of a character and really up sold the "top shelf" margaritas to my friend. But in all fairness he played it like it is, a tourist trap that doesn't have to worry about return customers. Not happy? Send in the next batch. We were in town for the day and drove by this place and it was packed-a fact which still boggles both our minds. We wanted to try another place but thought that if it's that packed it must be good.... Yelpers, unite and do your due diligence, never will I venture without consulting the book of knowledge first. The reviews on here are spot on, you have been warned.

This location is a freestanding unit in the strip mall that has Lowes as the anchor store. The strip mall in just north of I-285 at or near the intersection of Roswell and Hammond. This place has become very popular with the kickball teams that play at Hammond Park (mine included). I have been going to this El Azteca to eat Mexican food and drink beer (or margaritas) for at least six years. It is especially fun to watch games here with friends; particularly true if the weather is nice and patio seating is an option. Huevos a la Mexicana is particularly good here (for early lunch or brunch). It is basically eggs scrambled with tomatoes, onions and jalapeno peppers. It is served with refried beans, mexican rice and flour tortillas. Something in in the combo dish has a more than ample dose of garlic; so if that is not your thing be forewarned. Not sure whether or not corn tortillas are available as a substitute for the flour tortillas. The red salsa that comes with the tortilla chips makes a good accompinament to the mix. I usually wash it down with a Dos Equis Lager or Amber in the 32 oz mug (which I affectionately refer to as the "mucho grande cerveza." I would go with 3.5 or 4 stars but wait staff service / customer service here is often lacking as in a bit slow, inconsistent, apathetic, lackadaisical or plain out rude. And prices are a bit higher here (for typical Mexican fare) than other comparable neareby Mexican places serving the same stuff.
(3)Steve H.
The service was impeccable. The salsa was just okay. The food was a tic above the average threshold, but probably well above the ATL-area average for quantity and reasonably-priced. Ask for some hot sauce...it is made in-house and will creep up on you if you slather it on. Good stuff! They have draft beers the size of tea pitchers...for $5.25. I liked this place and would lobby to visit again on my next trip. The same could not be said for all of my other ATL experiences.
(4)P T.
Not sure why this location is busy. Service is very bad. Takes about 15 min to order food after you walk in. There is no guarantee meat is well cooked or the food served is same as you ordered. I have been to the location on chamblee dunwoody numerous times. Service between these two locations is night and day. If you live in sandy springs, dunwoody area I strongly recommend you to try the one on chamblee dunwoody
(2)Alexander A.
El Azteca is a solid, no frills type of Mexican restaurant. The food is good, the service is quick and the food comes out lighting fast. I usually go with one of the combination meals, or the chicken fajitas. I recommend either the cheese dip or guacamole to go along with the chips and salsa. They also have giant beers and good margarita's. They have a great patio and the restaurant is kid friendly.
(3)Phoebe T.
We only came to this place because my husband was craving mexican and nobody wanted to go to on the border with us (we had friends in town). The balcony area is quite spacious and nice but the indoors is so dark and depressing! We thankfully sat on the balcony area and thankfully nobody smoked around us (our baby was with us). The food is sort of bland and tasteless - almost like canned food. The specials only come with ground meat which didn't taste good either. Overall, at this price point, I expected more. Our waiter went from responsive to missing so the service is so-so too. I wouldn't come back to this place on my own accord. There are better mexican options out there!
(2)Bryan R.
We had a coupon that we purchased that clearly stated "never expired" & they refused to accept it saying they don't accept it anymore. BS...we already paid for it and it says it doesn't expire. Total bull. This is totally unacceptable and I will def recommend my friends do not eat here. Customer service is a big deal, and this would have been an easy problem solved. Very dissatisfied.

Fiance got the 170z Strawberry margarita and I, the Mango and it was AWESOME. Screw Wet Willie's, this is where it's at! Nxt time gonna get the Texas pitcher...no not a lush, just thirsty
(4)Kristen T.
Seriously, this was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I went by for takeout and used the menu that I found online at their website. When I got home and opened my food, it wasn't even close to what I thought I was ordering so I'm not sure what was up with that. I figured I'd do with the food I ordered as I wasn't driving all the way back there. I might as well just thrown it in the garbage. It was tasteless, gummy and just an overall disappointment. I tried the salsa once, and JUST once. It tasted like someone had opened a can of tomato sauce and poured it in a to go container. I don't even know how to make salsa and I know I could do better than that. For goodness sake, just buy Pace if you can't make decent salsa at a mexican restaurant! At least Pace has some chunkiness to it and has some flavor. I'm really upset that they obviously put the Los Bravos down the road out of business since I used to like going to that restaurant. I really don't know what people like about this place but they must not know there is better mexican food around.
(1)Tim C.
Food was okay. Nothing special. Service wasn't great. Once we got our food, we never saw the waitress again. Had to find someone to get the check.
(2)Pablo D.
Terrible food, terrible service. For a second year in a row I was dragged here. My family made it sound like last year was a fluke. It wasn't. The "salsa" is tomato paste. At least this year they made it a little spicy. The food isn't seasoned or flavored at all. They don't appear to be familiar with anything besides cheese and tomato. Forget garlic, onions, chili pepper, cayenne...ie: anything normal Mexican food is seasoned with. The food is extremely dull. Just about the worst I've been served, both years. The service is slow. The hosts apparently don't understand to not seat a table of screaming kids behind a table of adults in a COMPLETELY empty section.
(1)Paul L.
First let me say that I have been eating at EL Azteca since WAY back. Back in the day they were located across the street where the new Mellow Mushroom is now. They were so good then that they. Has to have two locations. Yep, one location where mellow mushroom is and a second where the smash burger is. The food quality and service have steadily went down hill since they moved to the current location. I do not eat there anymore. I drive down Roswell Rd to Taxco. If you are part of the party crowd that doesn't mind overpaying for mediocre/bad food and terrible service then this is the place for you. Let me warn you that they auto add a 20% tip to the bill for 6 or more. If you don't pay attention you will overtip big time ! Also if you do notice the auto tip and put zero on your credit card receipt for the tip , the server will add another 17% after you sign the slip. They are a scam.
(1)Ariana M.
I love this place!!! The servers are nice, friendly and humorous! I'm obsessed with their chips, salsa, and jalapeño cheese dip!! Great margaritas also.
(5)Bruce J.
2 hours for a table, waiter takes the order for half the table and waits on the other half, eventually order the food to go which comes plated and has to be packaged, after three hours the order is wrong, this was beyond the worst experience at a restaurant I have had in recent memory.
(1)Jamie W.
I really like the special fajita burrito. It's awesome! It is smothered in queso. My serves are always very nice and attentive. I am not sure why this place isn't reviewed better... maybe it is kinda iffy? I've been here many times and I always leave happy. The pitchers are relatively cheap. The fried ice cream was disappointing. People tend to bring their kids here and that's pretty annoying. The bathrooms aren't gross.
(4)Shana S.
Ummmm.... where to start. We sat outside and there were roaches crawling around everywhere. Horrifying. That alone gives it 1 star. The food was decent... the fajita meat was pretty tough. Just go to Uncle Julio's down the street.
(1)Jack M.
We had TERRIBLE service!!! Although my date's food came out properly and tasted good, 2 tries to get my order correct failed. Because of a prior commitment to a concert to benefit UGA students, I could not request a third try and ate the mess the server had brought me. I requested some compensation. I was given a measly $5 off for mediocre food. Most of the problems can be attributed to the server, who kept saying, "Yes," to my statements and questions. Clearly, his comprehension of the English language was sorely lacking and needs improvement! [Americans should not have to learn Spanish to talk to servers living in our country.] Although my order deviated slightly from the standard offering [no lettuce and use fajitas meat], it was not difficult. Also, the server kept assuring me that these changes presented no problems. The dining area was so NOISY that I could not hear much of what my date said. My advice is, don't eat here if you expect to have an enjoyable conversation.
(1)Roni B.
the drinks were ok....didnt eat...the chips & salsa were good...the service was kinda slow tho
(3)Anne J.
El Azteca is just gross to me. My girl friends always want to go here for sentimental reasons. We used to go here a lot when we were young and no as economically prosperous, and I hated it even then. The food is so bad and overpriced for what it is. I love good cheap Mexican food, but this is not good and definitely not cheap. The last time my friends were longing for some nostalgia and suggested El Azteca, we had weird stuff that did not belong floating in our pitcher of overpriced, generic sour mix margaritas. Meh. No thank you.
(1)Alison B.
Went for Happy Hour after work on Friday and the stars are mostly for the crowd as it was lively with a number of after-work groups which made for a fun evening with high energy. Chips and salsa were A-OK, but not particularly memorable. Strawberry margaritas served by the pitcher were sweet and seemingly not very strong (but, hey, I could be wrong about that as we were all feeling pretty darn good by the end of the evening!). The Texas margaritas were better, not too sweet and the right strength. My cheese quesadilla was prepared extra crispy as requested, part of why this review is 3 stars, not 2 as it is surprisingly difficult to convince a restaurant to cook quesadillas well done enough for me! ;-)
(3)Vivian W.
A few friends and I came here for dinner because we had heard about the margaritas. The menu does boast quite a few flavored margaritas (which were delicious I admit) but the food left a lot to be desired. The chips were fresh but the salsa was a bit bland. The guacamole was too runny (personal preference) for my tastes and didn't have a kick to it at all. I ordered the carne asada which was flavorless with very tough meat. I can say I definitely won't be back for the food.
(2)Katherine M.
I came here on Cinco de Mayo 2011, and the place was packed for sure. The parking lots were full, but police were present to help those of us who had to park across the street get to El Azteca, which was very thoughtful. The margaritas were great, and the chile relleno was tasty indeed. Our server was calm, collected, and fast throughout the whole experience, which is definitely saying something given the holiday and the fact that we were in the far section of the patio, probably further from the kitchen than most other tables. Atmosphere was nice, staff was friendly, and place seemed to run easily even on the holiday.
(4)Trusha P.
horrible service. went there for one beer and sat outside and for 10 minutes no one came outside to even give us water. this is the second time this happened. the first time we went we ordered food which was cold by the time we got it and it took forever to come out. i will never go there ever again. i would rather drive to midtown and go to senor patron.
(1)Diari C.
This place can be a hit or miss when it comes to getting good food and service. Me and a friend went to the Roswell location and chose to eat on the patio since it was kinda stuffy in the inside. It took a while for someone to take or drink and fiid orders. Our orders came out pretty fast though. I got the chalupa and taco lunch special. The beef taco and rice was good, but chalupa was a complete fail. I say check em out if and only if there is nowhere else within a 50 mile radius to eat!
(2)Erik B.
This place is one of my regular dining places. Food is not the best but one of the best in Atlanta area. Great customer service and friendly place. They are always busy. There must be reason. ;)
(5)Kristin K.
I really like El Azteca in Sandy Springs. I have one closer to me actually on Peachtree but oddly, the food there isn't as good. Okay, here'd the thing, this is not a very expensive place but the food is good. I've always thought the service was okay. It's not great, this isn't a four star restaurant but I've tried to be efficient to reduce the number of trips a server has to make in order to complete my meal and that seems to help reduce any frustration. I try to order drinks and food all at once and that way I only have to flag them down one time for the check. The food usually comes out right and good so thats no problem. That having been said, I usually go when its not terribly busy so maybe things aren't as good during rush times in terms of service. So I like their chicken burritos (burritos con pollo if you want to sound authentic right?) and mexican rice is good too. I also like the hard shell tacos. If you go for the guacamole they have 2 variations, one is smooth and blended and one is chunky style. I like the chunky because its fun to get big pieces of tomato and onion and stuff and I like the flavor of it better. During warm days this place is especially great because they have 2 seperate outdoor seating areas, one for smokers and one for the rest of us. Its really nice to sit outside and enjoy a meal when its warm for sure. It's a bit dark on the inside for my taste but its not a big deal.
(4)Katie K.
If my head is still splendidly swimming from a margarita experience, then maybe they know what they are doing... Monday nights are ladies nights: $2 margaritas ftw! They have several fruity flavours, such as raspberry, peach, mango, lime, strawberry, and something else... for $2, they definitely had their good share of alcohol in them too! However, I wouldn't pay their normal price for one of these (about $5, or about $20 for a pitcher). Also had the "mexican guacamole" for about $5, which was delicious with the infinity chips and salsa. The salsa itself is just a-ok (I tend to judge mexican restaurants by the quality of their salsa), it seriously tasted really watery and (dare I say it?) a tad bit like ketchup. Ick. Service was good, very friendly, the servers know how to have a good time. Maybe I'd be back one Monday night for the cheap margarita... but being that this place is a bit far from my Midtown base, probably not.
(3)Michael D.
Ate here on a Sunday in July circa 3PM. I couldnt decide whether to sit on the patio or in the bar area so I sat in the bar area because it was hot outside. The non-smoking side seemed too dark for that time of day. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Food was good for the price you pay. But they allow smoking which is not my thang. No one was smoking when I was seated but that only lasted about 10mins. The ventilation was good so I wasn't too bothered by it. But I wouldn't count on that always being the case. So beware smoking's allowed in certain parts of the restaurant. I would try the patio but ya know there's gonna be smoking out there. Plus the restaurant's in the middle of a concrete jungle and ya know that concrete is just gonna re-radiate the sun's heat. But that might be a good thing in the fall or early spring.
(3)Rick C.
Pretty standard Mexican restaurant. The entree was so so. Definitely didn't look like the burrito I thought I ordered. The chips salsa and queso dip were good, and the wait staff was very friendly. Honestly, I'd have rather went to the Chipotle across the street.
(3)B C.
Called and called to place and order to go and no answer.

Last night would be the worst ever experience at this place.. I go because it's close to home. The breeze on the patio is it's saving grace. Anna, our server was sweet..but forgetful. I had to ask twice for everything. I ordered steak fajita's but was given chicken.. while my beans and rice got cold, my steak was made.. I was enjoying my pictcher of Margarita's and the breeze too much to be upset, but I noticed. The size of the Taco salad HAS gotten smaller..as did the "salad".. my friend had to ask for more lettuce and cheese, (really?). Overall.. my luke warm food was, well, Meh.. I enjoyed my company and did I mention the breeze and drinks more.. BUT. I will not be going back for a while.. I'm looking for more attentive patio service elsewhere. Suggestions??

I had to write a review on this place due to all the shoulder / back rubbing my friend was getting from our server last night, putting a whole new spin on "friendly and attentive service". But quickly, I'll comment on the food, drinks, and atmosphere: the chips were good, the salsa was ketchupy and not the chunky tomato style I prefer, the chicken tacos were somewhat bland (just alright), but you can't beat the Amazon beer mugs (cheap) and the outdoor patio (finally an evening with no rain). Okay, so back to the lesbian action going on at our table... my friend (a female) was getting a mini-massage every time our server (a pretty Latina) came to check our table (frequently). I had no idea this was going on until about an hour and a half after my friend finally leaned in and whispered something about it. Apparently when I was in the bathroom, she practically got a full-on back rub. My friend then pointed out that our server was not touching any of the other fellow diners sitting in her station, which included me. When our server closed our check, I got to witness this first hand and almost choked on my beer with laughter. Me? I got nothing except a smile and an appreciative "thank you". I'm no lesbian, but hell, I could've used some shoulder rubbing after a long day at work :)!

If El Azteca only served their chicken soup, I'd give it all 5 stars. I would. In a heartbeat. I've eaten at this establishment many times. I enjoyed the food in the beginning and then, I tried the chicken soup. And then, I went and visited Mexico. So, in short, El Azteca rocks their Mexican chicken soup! Pass on the other foods. I wasn't crazy about their drinks either. My dear sweet hubby will bring home this soup once in a while and make me a happy girl! Simply squeeze lime juice into it and enjoy! No funky boiled chicken essence (like the one at Taxco). My sense of taste picks up funky chicken essences and will shut the food out! Yum!

I'll just say this...The food was GREAT! The Alcoholic Beverages were GREAT! The Service SUCKED ASS! We went through 2 bowls of chips and salsa before our "Real" waitress came to our table! She didnt offer us any water and she dissapeared for long lengths of time and it wasnt even super busy last night! In fact, SHE didnt even take our order, somedbody else came and took our order! She didnt even apologize to us before we left! I was disappointed with the service, but the food/drinks were great! I'll eat there again, but not at that location.....but then again, maybe I will! lol!

I had a some steak texas burrito and a sweet tea. The food looked nasty which is why i didnt finish it all. Then i came home a puked it all up and had severe heartburn. If you want to puke, heartburn, no sleep and a possible doctor visit...go to El Azteca on Roswell Rd!!!!
