So I'm a creature of habit. Dakota Blue is becoming an habit. Maybe it's the best Bloody Mary in Atlanta. Maybe it's the awesome Eggs Benedict on the weird, but tasty bread. Maybe it's the Mimosa I had that was massive. None of this half-bottle crap that some places try to pull off. Plus, our server (cannot remember her name, but she's been there everytime I have) is just about perfect. Doesn't hover. Doesn't stay away too long. Has great personality and generally makes sure you're comfortable. Superb brunch place.

I've only been here for dinner. On a good day, the food can pass for mediocre. On a bad day, it's really not worth eating what you ordered. The service is polite but slow. Still, I get dragged here by friends who insist that it's cute and neighborhood-y and inexpensive and deserving of our patronage. I really want to like this place for all of the reasons above but the food is just unforgivable. Their sandwiches are on par with what you probably could throw together for yourself after school when you were a kid. These are not sandwiches that, as an adult, you want to pay to have made for you. Dakota Blue, count your blessings that you have such kind neighbors who keep you in business.

we originally went to grant central pizza however after sitting there for 20 minutes waiting for our drink orders to be taken, we decided to go across the street since i read Kathleen's review and read the sidewalk chalk i was so into going to Dakota Blue, plus it was a really cool name. i love how they have a little area for the kids with books, and little chairs/desk. the place was full of kids running around. i cant wait until Izzy gets older. now i always have to be conscientious about where I'm going to eat b/c of my little one. i love this place b/c of it's kid friendliness. we ordered the domchiladas. they were soo good. and only 4.95 for a good size serving. they were really good and had a spiciness to them. very good. we also ordered the crab cakes. very thick and moist. the crust was really dark, too dark for my liking. but it was cool. they have a pretty cool beer list as well. i ordered the half serving of the cuban sandwich. it was really really really dry. i will never order it again. however, everything else, especially the cute little blond kid who crawled inside the newspaper stand and got stuck, made up for it.

I've been here for breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner, and I recommend all three. The prices are a hell of a nice relief from what you usually see on menus at local spots of similar caliber. The service is friendly and casual and they keep a nice rotation of various specials that also won't break the bank. The only downside is the meager wine list, which offers one white and four reds (and all the reds are from the same producer). However there is also full bar with some decent margaritas and other worthwhile unique offerings. The burrito plates and Cuban sandwich varieties are a steal at under $8. For breakfast, the french toast is sensational. Dakota Blue is a perfect neighborhood place, a Grant Park gem I hope will remain this way for many years to come!

I'm one lucky dude. I seem to have excellent luck with restaurants! I just got back from lunch at Dakota Blue and although I can hardly move, I am very happy. I got to use another great 50% scoutmob deal and got a massive burrito and a hand-made cherry coke (don't ask for one, they made mine because I'm special!). When I get the urge for a burrito, I'm skipping Chipotle from now on and heading into Grant Park. Great service and a cool down to earth atmosphere.

A true neighborhood joint, Dakota Blue has a nice outdoor seating area (when it's not freaking hot), a small but friendly bar area, and main dining room with lots of large booths. The building is an old mason building I think. Very family friendly, but if you go later in the evening, you can get peace and quiet. The food is solid. Good, cheap burritos and daily specials. Nothing to write home to mom about, but considering there are so few restaurants in Grant Park where you can actually SEE the park, and they have nightly drink specials (Tuesday 1.25 PBR yay), it's a welcome respite from the hectic, busy bars and restaurants further up the road (Six Feet Under, Tin Lizzy's) Staff is helpful, fast and friendly.

I like this place. I've eaten here a number of times, usually for lunch and most recently for brunch on a gorgeous July afternoon with low humidity and temps in the low 80s. What? Cooler weather in July? That's crazy talk. My friends and I were headed to Zoo Atlanta for kicks and decided to grab a bite before hand. I immediately thought of Dakota Blue with it's gritty, urban feel and decent variety of sandwiches, burgers, etc. We'd hoped to get a seat outside but the nice weather had folks out in droves and there were no tables available. So we settled for a booth indoors. Bloody Mary -- nice and spicy, hit the spot. Crab Cake Benedict -- The cakes were dark, almost looked like burgers, but had good flavor, topped with perfectly poached eggs and a minimal amount of hollandaise sauce. Served with tasty taters that were bathing in butter, this meal hit the spot.

A recent dinner at Dakota Blue was quite nice. I wasn't focusing too much on the food, although my black bean Cuban sandwich was pretty on-par. I appreciated the option to order the half Cuban: a normal portion size for all the non-obese Americans out there. Atop the black bean cakes sat sauteed peppers and onions, and cheese. The Greek salad that accompanied my sammie also was quite delightful. Tres glasses of Chardonnay complemented the conversation, catapulting me into a state of fuzzy-buzzy bliss.

Pretty decent meal! I decided to have breakfast, and wasn't at the least disapointed. My over easy eggs were perfect, the biscuit perfectly doughy and moist (however, I'm not sure if it was homemade), the hashbrowns hearty and well seasoned- and the bacon- crispy to enough to make me want to order another side! I was fortunate enough to share some of my co-volunteers french toast which was made with Grand Marnier and served with a lemon sauce. Total heaven in my mouth! I would definitely recommend this breakfast dish! The service was quick, and friendly. I would definitely go again when I'm in the area! Oh yeah, they serve breakfast till 3 on Saturdays.

I'd really like to pay for stale chips and half-ass salsa. A bland burrito would be just the thing. Or an unremarkable burger. Or a Wonderbread cuban sandwich. Hmmm. Where could I find these things? Ah! Dakota Blue! Dakota Blue is never really bad, but it's never very good either. It's the mediocre neighborhood hang-out with a schizophrenic menu. If you've a friend who loves this place and insists on dragging you out to it, then don't resist with fists aflail, but do resist.

Dakota Blue is super kid-friendly. I realize that would be a downside for some folks but, for our family, it's nice to have a restaurant nearby with good food (plenty of vegetarian options) where kids are welcome. They have toys and crayons available and it's usually noisy enough that toddlers who don't have an inside voice yet are lost in the din. My partner likes the black bean cuban and veggie quesadilla while I love the black bean burger which is house-made, not frozen from Sysco.

Let me start off by saying...I love Grant Park. Pros to this restaurant is that it's in the middle of the area and parking was pretty easy to find for a weekend. There also appears to be some good beer specials that I saw on a few boards in the restaurant. Now the cons. When walking into the restaurant, I noticed that the outside tables were covered with old food from previous costumers. I let that go thinking that maybe they just left. Then after being told to sit wherever we want (which only happens at places that are really good or not so good), we did and waited over 5 minutes to get a menu. As we checked out the brunch menu, I ordered coffee and couldn't even finish half of the cup. It was that bad. Then we ordered our meal, my boyfriend went for huevos rancheros, so their version of it. I went with a basic burger, thinking it would be tough to screw up. When ordering he asked for extra tortillas and I asked for extra pickles. Food came out within 10 minutes (which wasn't bad, but the server didn't come back to us during that time to refill water or the coffee I wasn't drinking). When our server dropped off our food, no extra tortillas or pickles. Once we figured out...our server was no where to be found so my boyfriend went to the bar to ask and found our server sitting on a stool on his phone. Now let's talk about the food. It's all store bought...right down to my packaged burger that somehow was rare on the outside of the patty and medium rare on the inside. BTW...I ordered it medium. The fries were the best part, but again I could have bought them in the frozen section at Kroger. My boyfriend's meal he said was ok, but i couldn't help, but notice a few pieces of fruit on his plate covered in cheese sauce. Couldn't they have put that on it's own dish? After eating, we paid our tab and headed to the car. Once outside I noticed that the table we saw when walking in had the same old food still on it. Gross. Overall...I will only go back if someone wants to get a cheap beer...and if someone forces me.

I went with the Anthro peeps for our last happy hour in April. I love the location and love the vibe of the bar, but my experience was marred by the fact that my beer tasted like someone had their feet in the keg. And that's pretty gross. They were super nice about switching me out for a different beer, but unfortunately, that was my first impression. The food looked decent, so I'll give it another try. Probably some hot day when I've been out at the park and am in need of refreshment. I'm hoping my next trip will prompt a review update with more stars!

My friend and I went to Atlanta a Braves game and decided to stop by after getting our tickets super early in the morning. Well, it was delicious. My friend had a blue cheese bacon burger and I had regular breakfast. It was pretty delicious. Would I go there again? Sure....though I would like to explore other options.

My favorite restaurant near the house, Dakota Blue has great food and it's cheap! Though the service is sometimes slow and the kids a little loud.. it's a great place to relax after a romantic walk around the park.. and it's dog friendly. Yay! You can't go wrong with the fish tacos for dinner and the grand marnier french toast.

Great neighborhood place, dog and family friendly. I've been there for brunch, lunch and dinner. The food is American with a bit of tex-mex. The brunch is the best, and lunch is equivalent to what I would expect from the vortex coming off a weekend bender. I would call the food good to great but neither bad nor awesome. If you live in the neighborhood I would guess you've tried it, if your new and have dogs you can grab table outside if open and hang out. I think if they spent a little money on upgrading the place this could be an easy 4. It's not meant to be a 5 star place for American food

Verdict is still out on this place ...I went last Thursday with my son and his father. Yes, I have to agree with everyone else this is an extremely kid friendly place and I felt really comforatable there with my 2 year old. Not sure if I just picked the wrong thing off the menu but I hated my burrito and I was a little leery about the cleanliness of the place. I think I might have to try the brunch before I can really make a judgement

David wanted something different and not very far from the loft, so I suggested we try Dakota Blue again. I seem to always have a good time here and the food is very consistent. It was quite busy and our waitress was very flustered, since she had almost been there for 10 hours. She did a wonderful job and I tipped her a bit more than usual since I know she was working hard. The menu is half mexican food and the other half is sandwhiches. I can't say that I really have tried anything mexican except for the veggie nachos, which are delicious. I decided to go with the Chicken Cuban and David got the Cordon Bleu Sandwich. Both were very good and it was exactly what we were craving for. They always seem to have very good specials with this week being Meatloaf! Mmmm...comfort food! Will definitely be coming back when we are in search of something different...just hire my servers!!!

Went here last night with the family and had a mixed experience. The food was just okay. I had the cuban, which was not the best I have ever had nor was it the worst. The service was also just okay. Our waitress was nice enough despite disappearing for a while about the time we needed the check. The other woman working, however, looked like she was having a bad day. I said hello to her as we walked in and I actually think she scowled at me. Maybe it was the three kids we had in tow, but still. At least try to make the customers feel welcome.

Pretty good restaurant in one of the best areas in Atlanta - Grant Park. It is a great place to cool off after a stroll through the park. They have drink specials Sunday - Friday (the special changes everyday but Wednesday boasts $4 margarita pints). The burgers are fantastic and everything else is so-so.

Reviewed a lot and I agree with almost all the reviews. Good for kids... definitely. If it's a warm day drawing on the sidewalk outside with chalk is a favorite of my kid. Great bloody mary... check. Very tasty, weekend brunch is one of their specialties. Vegetarian options... many, many. I'm a vegetarian and I've had at least 4 different dishes here, all were good. Friday night were the bean soft tacos, which were overstuffed and yummy. I added the gauc and sour cream. Excellent. Great Cuban sandwich.... check. My bro-in-law said "this is the best Cuban I've had in a long time." This place is kind of funky, very cool and good food. The staff is friendly, but not always super attentive (I've had trouble getting my check and getting it back on two of my five visits) but overall a great place and we will be back!

I came here with a group of friends, I got chicken fingers and fries. they were decent, some pepper in the batter which always sells me. the thing is, it's cheap, fast, and not that great. their tacos looked mediocre, the shrimp cocktail dish looked mediocre. the service was ok.

I went there with the family after visiting Zoo Atlanta. The restaurant is nestled in the now up-and-coming Grant Park area of town [which reminded me of the trendy Fremont and Wallingford neighborhoods of Seattle]. What caught my eye was the outside sitting area had several families seated there, so after a quick review of the menu we decided to give it a try. I ordered one of the specials [what I like to do to get a really taste of what the chef is capable of]; a turkey burger, topped with feta cheese, an olive tapanede, and the usual tomato and lettuce. The burger was very good; the feta cheese along with the olive tapanede was a wonderful combination that truly enhanced the tastefully seasoned [and juicy] turkey burger. It is a great alternative to someone like me as beef substitute when you're craving the traditional burger. My wife had the chicken salad melt sandwich, which was chicken salad that had Craisins, and bit of celery, with melted Swiss cheeses on a toasted sour dough bread. My wife really enjoyed it, I tasted it and was pleasantly surprised but the celery was a bit overwhelming for me [then again I'm not a big celery fan]. For her side she ordered the Asian coleslaw which was very tasty...a nice mix of ginger and vinegar flavor. My son ordered the Blue cheese Bacon Burger [but substituted the blue cheese for cheddar]. Nice sized burger and according to him and my wife it was very good. My son ordered tatter tots instead of fries; the waitress suggested it because she said the tatter tots were really good. Wow she wasn't kidding! I know this my sound strange but, I don't know what they do differently but those were the best tasting tatter tots we ever had. My normally adventurous daughter took the comfort zone path and ordered corn dogs with fries...what can I say; they were good, but then again its pretty hard to mess up corn dogs and fries. The only negative I have to say is that just before heading out my son and I made a quick restroom break. To our surprise the restroom was a unisex, one toilet bathroom. It was clean, but I can only imagine what it must be like at night once the bar gets up and running...yuck! Anyway...we would definitely return for lunch and even an early dinner. Definitely a gem in the Grant Park area!

We lived in Grant Park for 2 years, and still venture back to go to DB, especially for Sunday brunch. Particularly notable are the french toast and the jalapeno grits- very nice. As others have mentioned, they have quite a few vegetarian options including a nice veggie burrito with tofu, including poblano peppers. Their chipotle sauce is also quite nice, don't miss it. Yes, there are often a lot of kids, but it is a neighborhood place, so you just overlook it (or we do). The owner is awesome, and I think the real charm of the place- aside from the food and the neighborhood atmosphere- is that it is a small business that is invested in the community, through art (the local artists' displays on the walls) and through personal conversations with customers. These things give it a feeling of community as well as great food, and this is what keeps us coming back.

I went by Dakota Blue for lunch today and although my experience was OK -- I left there a little unsatisfied. I'll start with the negatives.... 1- I like kids, I really do...i even have one, BUT the dining room was like a scene from Kindergarten Cop -- luckily there was one more seat left at the bar. Later a couple came in and waited to sit at the bar to avoid the kiddies in the dining area. Yikes! 2- MY FOOD WAS COLD!!! I ordered crab cakes and blue-cheese macaroni, and the mac was stone cold in the middle....it was as if it was once frozen and they didn't let it un-thaw. I didn't even eat it I figured it would be better if i took it home and reheated it up first. Now for the positives.... 1- The service was rockin' and the bar customers were hella cool. When I told my waitress that i just moved to the area she made sure to tell me about the weekend brunch and gave me a menu to take home. 2- My crab cakes were good! Although the mac-n-cheese was cold the crab cakes were tasty. I will return --- and if there is no place at the bar I will just get my food to-go or eat outside, because I love kids BUT I can only tolerate them two at a time.

Dakota Blue is an interesting place for me. Although heir breakfast brunch is consistently excellent, it's never my first choice of places. I tend to go there when I know most of the other brunch spots will have long waits. As others have mentioned, there are typically plenty of kids floating around, and the service can be spotty, though for the most part its great. I pretty much stick to their breakfast specials - crabcakes, bourbon banana pancakes, and this crazy 'baby-daddy' skillet, which has every breakfast food you can imagine thrown in but still imagines to taste pretty good. I really should upgrade this to a first choice type of place, and maybe try their lunch menu.

I've been here several times, and I've never been disappointed. Never really blown away, but never disappointed. I usually go for a burrito or a cuban-style sandwich, but the chicken nachos can serve as a meal, too. Not exactly a destination restaurant, but it's good, inexpensive food if you're in the neighborhood.

I really like the brunch menu. But needs salmon options and better veggie sausage. Kind of "too chill" on the wait staff. But nice atmosphere.

Excellent value, OK food. Had a breakfast there on July 5th for two, for $15, and left stuffed. I had an excellent spinach, tomato and provolone omelet (special) that was amazingly tasty, decent cheese grits, wheat toast, and a slice of cantaloupe. My gf had blueberry pancakes, which were a little flat and bland, with a side of soysage, which was just decent. Coffee was ok. What makes the meal great is all that for $15. The waitress was new, but friendly, if a little confused. The place is very casual.

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and like to walk around Grant Park in the afternoon or evening. Visiting Dakota Blue, as we've done a couple of times, is refreshing and enjoyable. We are grandparents, and the kid-friendly, dog-friendly atmosphere and comfortable outdoor tables, as well as excellent, friendly service, have made stopping in a lot of fun. If only the FOOD was any good! I am a long-time vegetarian, and my husband is not. On my first visit I had the Black Bean Cuban, and both of us agreed it tasted like cardboard. I brought most of it home and dressed it up and made it edible, but it was so BLAH I felt the chef had felt it was "necessary" to have vegetarian dishes, but had never tasted one himself. My husband said his chicken was "okay". Last night we returned and I ordered a mushroom-swiss black bean burger. It was better than the black bean cakes on the Cuban, but no better than a supermarket veggie burger, and the dark sauce was almost entirely devoid of mushrooms. My fries were cold when they arrived. Husband had the chicken salad melt, which he thought sounded wonderful, but it was also remarkably lacking in flavor. We'll probably head back over there for an occasional beer or glass of sangria, but it won't be a go-to place, and we can't recommend it to family and friends.

I've been in 3 times now and the food is consistently good. The last 2 times I've had the cuban sandwich and its been delicious. I'm upping the star because the bread pudding is amazing!

I've only been once, so it may have improved, but I thought this place was lousy. I tried it because I wanted to check out their tacos. First off, mexican food only comprises about 25% of the menu. That said, you are probably better off ordering the chicken fingers. I believe they also had blue plates which was something like meatloaf. I ordered something like spicy chicken tacos. It was full and overflowing but loaded with crap. The meat was bland and the guacamole sour. If I lived within walking distance I might treasure it as a neighborhood joint, but don't go out of your way for it.

The food was not good and our server did not check on us throughout the meal. We also had a hard time trying to get our check....we had to go and find the server; not good at all. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone....

Of all the restaurants to have occupied this location over the years, I'm shocked that Dakota Blue is the one Grant Parkers chose to support. The Good: A friendly and comfy joint with sidewalk seating on a picturesque neighborhood street. Margaritas that will give you a good buzz. The Bad: Wild children running amok (Ahhh! So this is why Dakota Blue has succeeded!). Sticky, permanently sticky floors and tables due to previous statement. The Food: Mediocre. I usually just go here with my friends who have toddlers. Mainly just drink margaritas or beer and then pick at the kids' fairly decent chicken fingers and fries while they run around screaming. I will say, though, once I shared a plate of nachos with someone - still mediocre - but the homemade salsa was delicious...made in-house.

1st visit after years if living in the OFW-GP-C'town area and was kinda disappointed after hearing some good things. Service was above-average but my Dallas Cowboy wrap was just terrible. Granted, I did say no sour cream, but if that's what it would take to give that thing flavor I'm not sure there's any hope for it. It just lacked anything additional besides un salted/peppered eggs, bacon, cheese and a plain tortilla. Blandville. I'll give another shot, but not starting off well for me.

Ok - so I have mixed feelings about Dakota Blue. I go there very often - after all it is in Grant Park and it is very dog-friendly, but it can be hit or miss. I'd say half the time the service is good - half the time - not so much. I love their Turkey Reuben Cuban. Love that you can get half sizes - perfect for my appetite. Good pasta salad. Decent brunch selections. Love the outside seating - perfect to walk up and sit out with our girls. The inside is always decorated with local art - which is pretty cool. So I would give 3 stars for food & service - but it gets one extra for being dog-friendly! I wouldn't drive out of my way to get there - but if you are around GP - check it out!

Great food, cheap PBR, and super friendly staff! What more do you need to hear! Every time I've gone to DB I've been super happy. The food is always tasty and very moderatly priced. And they have a great menue to choose from. The staff is freindly and personable. And the service is great :D Around dinner time youll find a lot of familys eating with their kids, but if you head over a bit after their bed time its a great place to grab a beer and a bite to eat

I haven't been here for brunch yet, but a few dinners here has made me want to try every mealtime they offer. The food was great, they had the traditional hamburgers, and some less traditional foods like barbeque pork tacos. Everything I have had so far has been delicious. The servers are friendly and not too intrusive, the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the price is right. Can't wait to see the brunch!

2 words - "Jalepeno Grits!". Get them for brunch at Dakota Blue on the weekends! I really like the brunch here. Aside from brunch, the BBQ sandwich is really good, the burgers are good, the tacos, and of course the burritoes....though they have onions built in, and I really dislike onions.

i have some friends who are absolutely obsessed with this place. like mindlessly obsessed. good for them. i suppose it's a better obsession than the one i have with a certain baseball team that hasn't won a world series in 100 years. all that to say, i am a fan but not a raving one. the food is decent, and they actually make a pretty good burger, but it isn't anything to write home about, and frankly there are a dozen other options just as good. the reason this place get's the third star is the space. i just love these places that are built into townhomes in grant park. they feel cozy and warm and right. dakota blue is furnished very eclectic too, which only adds to this feel. give it a whirl. like i said, i have some friends who would probably disown me if they knew i only gave this place three start.

Dakota Blue is a fun little joint located literally across the street from Grant Park. It's inviting with friendly staff who would never think about rushing you. Sweet atmosphere with their small outside seating patio in the front, plus old picnic tables as the "seating" in the dining areas. The inside walls are BLUE (how fitting) with some random eclectic artwork scattered throughout. The menu is made up of mostly bar food--but has potential for the "upscale" rating if it had a few less fried options. Dakota is known for (and pretty much lives up to) the best blue cheese burgers in the A. I'm sure some of you burger lovers (like me!) would object, especially with The Vortex's Black and Blue burger. But Dakota Blue's gives them a run for their money. We also had a delicious spinach artichoke dip to start and cleaned the bowl! They serve that with warm tortilla chips and it was tasty. Beer list is decent. I would recommend it to families or people walking by since it's very much settled in a neighborhood.

If you don't mind ankle-biters running amok you might enjoy this hole-in-the-wall in Grant Park. The food is fine for bar fare, and I am glad it is there as there are few other options in Grant Park.

Great neighborhood feel as others have said. I'm basing my review on Sunday brunch that I just had a couple hours ago. I went with some friends who live in the Grant Park area. I had pancakes, sausage, and their version of hashbrowns. It was delicious and cheap. I especially love the vibe in there with the big picnic booths and the eclectic artwork. Staff were friendly and hip. I would definitely recommend.

For such a prime location and a great shaded patio you get two stars, but I am gunning for one star after the barf-o-rific black bean burger, horrible service, and sticky dirty grossness of your interior.

If you got kids this is the place to go. Even if you don't have kids the outside seating is quiet enough. Food can vary never had anything bad had a few dishes and burgers that were pretty top notch. Consistency is for McDonalds, I like a little variety. My kids would rather go here than chuck e cheeze, thank god. A note for veggie conscious parents, you can get any of the fried sides replaced with any of the veggie side (including from daily menu) for near? free. Hard to beat dinner for 4 and a beer for dad for $30 or less.

One of my neighborhood standbys. Possibly the most child friendly non-chain eatery in town (gold star to the owner's who anticipated the young family influx into the area). The spinach and artichoke dip is reliable, the sandwiches and burgers are tasty and the burritos are huge. For the past two years, the service has been at worst adequate - but usually quite good. I have never ventured off the menu and onto the daily specials scribbled on the wall, but have heard mostly good things. The owner even sent complimentary dessert to our table not long after the arrival of our daughter as a congrats. Nice touch.

Dakota Blue has, in my incredibly humble opinion, grown up in the last couple of years. When we first started going to the restaurant the service was iffy, but it's improved 200% in the last year. It's extremely kid and dog friendly, even offering toys inside the restaurant and chalk and their entire sidewalk and a water bowl for Fido outside. It's not unusual to walk up to the restaurant to see people with their dogs eating outside while children make art on the sidewalk, which is a cozy little scene. The food is reliably good, with several specials each day, great veggie burgers and fries, and delish desserts. At the risk of letting everyone in on what's now a very accessible local joint, if you went a few years ago and haven't been back, you should really give it a try again!

Whenever we have out of town guests, we always take them here for Brunch. My husband loves the Banana Bourbon pancakes, while I am a fan of the Crab Cakes Benedict. This place has consistently good for for great prices. We had a party of 14 once and didn't spend over 100 dollars. Additionally, outside seating is dog friendly, and they have chalk so the kids can write on the sidewalk.

Good food, extensive menu, hearty portions, nice drink selection, and a great atmosphere. This is one of my favorite low key restaurants. Good for brunch or dinner. Definitely give it a try.

This is the place that you will want to know about before everyone else. First off, the food is amazing. I have yet to be disappointed. Two dishes you have to try- Grand Marnier French toast and the Baby Daddy. Yes, that's right. Say hi to the owner, he's in the kitchen cooking. Ask him about the tiles on the shelves. Nice story. I suggest indoor eating for the hotter days and outside on the walk when the temp drops. Bring lots of friends. There were about 7 of us and they have these really big wooden booths that are great for when you are with a lot of folks. There are some cozy tables in the corners that are great for canoodling and all that. Eat, hang out, have a good time. I prefer last minute meal plans and I like that they serve brunch later than most places. I drive 35 minutes across town to eat here. I think that should just about cover it. Just go. And you might also try the crab cakes (I like them and I don't really like seafood). Ok, nuff said. Wait, I forgot the hash browns...yum.

OK, so I went back. I figured that since they'd renovated, maybe they decided to up their game a bit in the process. Happily, their fruit fly problem seems to be a thing of the past -- at least it wasn't an issue this past week. But the food is still not really great, the tables were sticky, and the service was lackadaisical. I had the veggie quesedilla, which was fine but most definitely nothing special. I guess they figure they've got plenty of business as things stand, so what's the point of changing anything.

For a first time visit,it was pretty good. We came for lunch, around 1:00. There were plenty of seats and we were allowed to seat ourselves. The service was great. We ordered drinks and appetizers. We got water but they have a list of beers and wines and margaritas as well. The chips and salsa and guacamole were a negative for me,however my husband enjoyed the guacamole. The salsa was a bit watery and under seasoned. I also felt like the guac could use more seasoning but maybe it was just me since he seemed to like it just fine. For lunch, I ordered the BBQ sandwich. It was very good. I loved the flavor of the sauce. The bun was slightly toasted. There were plenty of tater tots. My husband ordered the brisket tacos with tots. He liked it,I did not. But again, it was probably just me and my taste buds. The brisket was dry (to me...lol) Husband said he would order again. The price was great. We paid less than $10 per person. Next time, I'll come in off the clock and try a margarita (or two).

After we got lost finding our way back from walking around Grant Park ("We don't need navigation, I know where we are. Put it away." 2 hours later..... "We're lost."), we stumbled upon this cute place. Definitely a neighborhood restaurant. I'm sure people walk here constantly. I enjoyed the outdoor seating since we had my little dog with us, but the fries was overly fried (my dog enjoyed them A LOT). The chicken fingers had more breading than actual chicken. Wings didn't have a lot of meat to them. Their philly had flavor but more condiments than actual meat (similar to the chicken fingers, I'd say?) Probably won't be coming back since it's out of the way but if I lived around Grant Park, I'd go back again.

I've visited Dakota Blue a few times, and I've decided that I like it. It's going to replace another Tex-Mex place that was my staple for margaritas and queso. I first visited for brunch with a group of about 8 girlfriends. I had the bourbon banana pancakes and they were good, but super, very, extremely sweet. I personally don't eat super sweet anymore, so I found the sugar content to be overwhelming. I wouldn't order them again, but if you have a sweet tooth, dive on in. I also had their hash browns/fried potatoes and they were delicious. Most recently, I've been for lunch, and I had specials both times. The first were tacos with beef or chicken and a sriracha-lime slaw. The slaw was so good that I can't remember the protein. And their tortilla is corn that's not as stiff and thick as corn tortillas I've had in other restaurants. The next time I had brisket sliders with a mustard BBQ sauce. I wasn't sure what a mustard BBQ sauce would taste like; turns out, it's pretty effing good. I've also had their queso and house margarita. I love their house margarita. It's a clear, light green color and perfectly tart and sweet. It tastes amazingly clean for a house margarita. If they use a crappy mix, they got it by me. I saw other reviews talking about the kids, and I was lucky on most visits to go during off times that were usually kid free. When I have seen kids there, I noticed that Dakota's is definitely kid-friendly. There are coloring books and some other items to keep them occupied (although I didn't see any parents using them). Keep this in mind because it is distracting. There is plenty of street parking - but again, I come on off times. Since the park is just up the block, I can see it being crowded on sunny weekends. Yelp 100 #17

Yikes. I've eaten here 3-4 times in the past and it had always been solid. Not this time. I hope we caught them on an off day because I ate there with family on Sunday 8/23 and just about everything about the experience was bad or very bad. Half our party arrived 15 minutes before they switched from the breakfast/brunch menu to the dinner menu (I can't remember the time). We all arrived before the switch, though, and were planning on ordering some brunch, but our server came over and removed the brunch menus we'd been looking at and said brunch was shut down. Even though it was 5 minutes before the scheduled time. So we ordered lunch. Two of us had orders that had options, but our server didn't ask us which options we wanted--she seemed pretty unfamiliar with the menu (maybe she was new?)- so we had to flag her down to clarify which orders. Four of our six meals came out, but the fried chicken and corn dogs didn't come out. The server said they would be "a couple more minutes." Those orders didn't come out for 20 minutes. I'm not sure the kitchen crew had turned the fryer on: I can't think of any other explanation. The whole rest of the table was done with our meals by the time the server brought the two fried items out with a half-hearted apology. This is when a good server/restaurant apologizes profusely and agrees to comp the meals. Nope. As the two late items were for our out-of-town family, I was pretty upset. We had to ask for the items to be taken off, which they were. I've got friends who are regulars here and I'd go back if invited, but certainly won't go otherwise. Too bad.

Just a head's up: this is not a good place to dine solo on a Sunday afternoon. That being said, I write this review with the full acknowledgement that part of the problem for me stemmed from my intolerance for small children and their screaming. The Grant Park area is very dog and child friendly, so that's definitely something to take into consideration when looking at places to eat in that area. A couple friends and I were planning on having brunch this morning, but circumstances beyond our control had us having to reschedule our ladies' day out. I was already up, showered and dressed though so I decided to go ahead and try this place I'd had bookmarked for FOREVER. It's noisy. Like, VERY noisy. This was extremely uncomfortable for me, but I gave it a chance because I was so hungry and thought my irritation would calm itself once I got some sustenance. It didn't. They were pretty busy, so I can appreciate that they did pretty well service-wise. My server was nice, and just attentive enough. Another gentleman brought me some silverware that was filthy (dried hollandaise smeared all over the knife... gross) but that was rectified quickly. Now, the screaming children... Like I said I understand that its my own intolerance for these types of things, but parents also need to be aware that everyone has the right to enjoy their dining experience. Perhaps Dakota Blue could use one of their rooms for a more child-friendly dining area and use the other for adults? Idk, but I found the whole experience to be distracting and uncomfortable. As for the food, it was just ok. I had the Eggs Barcelona, and the brisket was pretty bland. It comes topped with "queso" cheese and they were a little light with that. They were nice enough to sub my starchy side for fruit though. Oddly enough, I might give them another try during the week when everyone else is at work so I can try their Banana Bourbon pancakes. Those did look pretty good when they passed by my table, and maybe Dakota Blue's forte is the sweeter breakfast options.

Came here on a lovely Saturday morning with some friends and a big ol dog. We sat outside and enjoyed the spring weather. The food here isn't the best, but the fact that Dakota Blue exists where it does makes it awesome. There need to be more places like this in Grant Park and all the neighborhoods of Atlanta. I ordered the veggie breakfast burrito and it was pretty good. On the side I had a biscuit and some bacon. The biscuit wasn't the type I usually love, the flaky, southern kind. This biscuit was like some sort of hardtack or something. The flour wasn't self-rising or anything. My buddy ordered the veggie omelette, which he seemed to enjoy, and the wife had one of the "poachers"-I forget which kind-and although most of her meal was good, the homemade bread tasted...different. It was very sweet. Excellent service here, great location, medium good food. Check it out for yourself.

Consistently good food and a casual place to eat any time of day. I'm equally likely to stop in for Sunday morning brunch or for a late dinner, since they're open a little later than most. It's a great neighborhood restaurant with a combination of tex-mex and breakfast foods. They offer indoor or outdoor seating. The service is good, but not great when they are busy. On a Sunday morning, be prepared for noise and a lot of small children. It is very child friendly, they even some books and toys. This is great if you have kids but not so great if you don't and happen to sit by the toy area. For this reason I like to come a little later when the crowd is more mature (and the service is better when the servers aren't weaving around small kids playing in the walkways). It's near Grant park so parking is limited to what you can find in the neighborhood. Not a problem if you walk and they do have a bike rack outside.

I went to Dakota Blue with my husband on a Sunday for lunch for the first time recently. This place is abnoxious-kid friendly and loud, so if you're like us and don't want to eat surrounded by too many crying, yelling, food-throwing, and running-around children, I'd definitely try a different place on a Sunday. Service was good, the waitress took our order fast and refilled our drinks promptly. However, it took more than 30 minutes to get our food. When we asked the waitress when our food was coming, she replied it was taking the time it needed, and that there was another table ahead of us to be served first. I don't know how many people there are working the kitchen, but they don't seem to know how to multi-task! When my burger arrived it was passed the ordered doneness and lukewarm, as were the fries. Obviously the burger/fries had waited a while before being served. I had the Mushroom and Swiss Burger. The mushrooms were barely sautéed and pretty much raw, as if they were cooked too fast, most likely to speed up food delivery. The brown hunter sauce was delicious though. We like to support local Grant Park places, but we won't be coming to Dakota Blue again. The food wasn't good enough to put a blind eye on too many children and the overwhelmed kitchen.

I frequently get a Greek salad with chicken tenders which is very good. They've re-done the bar area and improved it a lot. The tv in the side room is too high up. Overall, it's a decent place.

I was in limbo between 3-4 stars because the service was extremely slow. We went here on a whim wanting to try something different and I am glad we decides to give it a try. We sat outside to enjoy the cool morning air and partake of a new breakfast experience. We orders the Eggs Barcelona and the Baby Daddy Skillet. Let's start with the eggs barcelona. It was poached eggs on top to beef brisket and a tomato on an English muffin with sauce. It was so flavorful and delicious. The baby daddy skillet consisted of potatoes, onions, apples cooked in a brown roux topped with cheese, two poached eggs and a sauce. This dish was delicious until I tasted the apples. (I don't do cooked fruits) The roux was to die for and everything entangled together to create a savory dish with the exception of the apples. Off street parking is crucial in the area. We will be back for round 2.

The wife and I spontaneously crowned a glorious fall(ish) afternoon with some nibbles here, some bike-gazing at Loose Nuts, a lazy walk through Grant Park, and then a serendipitous stroll into the Cyclorama right as the hourly tour was starting--a highly recommended sequence of events if you wish to while away a few hours in one of Atlanta's prettiest, most historic neighborhoods. Dakota Blue got us off to a good start. The patio is well-situated for bustling street vista enjoyment, with some strategically placed fans providing a gentle breeze. Our blissed-out hippie waitress was adorable and delivered well-timed, unobtrusive service. Lady Love had the veggie burrito and I the Grand Marnier French Toast. Both entrees caught us off guard with how delicious they were, especially considering the price. The final bill was less than $20 with two coffees, and I count that as a bargain in this neck of the woods; I have paid a lot more than that for similar meals at places that maybe take themselves a little too seriously without a commensurate elevation in quality. The only failing of the experience was the coffee, which was overly bitter and seemed like it had been sitting on the hotplate too long. I'm willing to overlook that, though, and I look forward to trying out some other plates because I really enjoyed this neighborhood joint and I want to see it succeed. I wouldn't drive a long way for it, but if you're in the area definitely give this place a try.

Babby Daddy skillet. Potatoes, bacon, apples, spinach with cheesy goodness and two perfectly poached eggs. And another hollandaise sauce to top it off. Best poached egg I've ever had.

Really this place is simply my go to Grant Park neighborhood restaurant. It is no frills and casual. They recently did a remodeling of the main dining room in the last year and it really spiffed up the joint. They have a good beer selection for a place of its size. We have rated their tator tots best in town. For dinner I love their cheeseburger which tastes like it was cooked over an open flame grill. During warmer months their seats outside are wonderful and the space is very dog friendly even for our goofy Great Dane. If you are there for brunch you can normally get a table during peak hours which is rare in this city. I love the huevos ranchero and get it every time. The spicy salsa they use is addicting and homemade.

I've tried this place three times now. The food is solid and reasonably priced. It's a good atmosphere. My only complaint is the slow service. Every time it feels like they are missing a waitress. The most recent time we waited 15 min to place our orders. We ended up leaving and going down the street.

This is our neighborhood space. They know you, they remember your beverage of choice and will bring it to you before you even set down. I LOVE the black beans Cuban sandwich. And the tater tots are to DIE FOR. Burgers are awesome too. I'll call, put an order and pick it up when walking the dog.

Good breakfast option without the wait. I was looking for a place to meet an out of town guest for Sunday brunch. She was staying downtown so I wanted some place that she could get to pretty easily and didn't have an hour plus wait. Based on yelp reviews, we tried this place and it worked out perfectly for us. It was not crowded and we were able to get a booth immediately. The prices are reasonable and the food was good. I had the eggs Florentine with the jalapeno cheese grits. Both were delicious. My 11 year old daughter had the kids burrito, which was HUGE. She loved it. The service is a little hands off-ish but that worked well for us because we were talking so much. The bathrooms were a little gross. They definitely needed to be cleaned. Alcohol is also an option, which is a plus although we didn't partake. I would definitely go again and would recommend it to others.

We've been here for brunch numerous times and it's always been a great experience. The bloody mary's and mimosas are tasty and served in a big water glass. It's definitely not one of those places where you get three sips out of one glass of mimosa... We also particularly enjoy how dog friendly this place is how they even have water bowls outside and all the servers have always seemed very friendly towards our dog. When it comes to the food, I've always been happy with what we received. They are very helpful with special requests as long as they're within reason. I always get one of their brunch specials and we've also had the bourbon french toast before, which was super tasty. It's also a nice atmosphere, sitting outside. The street isn't usually too busy and after about 12:30 the sun shines onto that side of the street as well, but since there are still plenty of trees one can always find a shady spot too. It's nice to walk through Grant Park, pick up some things at the Farmer's Market on Sunday, and then have brunch over at Dakota Blue.

OMG!!! Me and friend was looking for a place to have breakfast on a crisp Sunday morning without the pain of a long line. We also wanted something uniquely different and boy did we find it. This spot is just dayum awesome!!! The food is just different enough, yet it's still got that good comfort touch to it. THE SPECIALS, THE SPECIALS, THE SPECIALS!!!! They are the best!!! It was hard to choose from the SPECIALS or the menu. Nice problem to have btw. The service unlike the poplar spot just up the street need I not mention it, we all know the spot. The service here was just warm, comfy, and just a down right at home feeling. Just like being at your grandma's house. Just a nice a low key spot with an ambiance that matches the warmth of the neighborhood!!! You will love this place a lot!!!

BRUNCH BRUNCH BRUNCH! If you find yourself in this neighborhood and want a delicious brunch without the wait and without the attitude then visit DAKOTA BLUE (see my disclaimer below about Ria's Bluebird). The breakfast is fairly standard but the SPECIALS are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I am in love with their Baby Daddy Skillet (baked with Apples, Potatoes, Bacon) and served with Eggs Benedict over the top is Ah-mazing! I am a picky person and I've gotten this dish several times and it is sheer perfection. They have several other specials that sound De-lish. I would give the place 5 stars alone for the food. The service is friendly if a little scattered (but someone tell me where in this part of town the service isn't a little scattered). The space is extremely inviting and they even have a little section of toys for this tots. If you hate yourself and want to wait ages for service shooting you the middle finger (then go visit the RUDE people at Ria's Bluebird who advertise on their menu that they specialize in customer DISSERVICE)! I don't care if God made the pancakes I wouldn't walk in their door.

This place is great. It is never too crowded for brunch which I really appreciate. You can sit outside or inside and they allow dogs on the patio. On Sundays it is great to grab brunch and then walk over to the Grant Park Farmer's Market. The good is really good, we have enjoyed everything we have ordered. The Bourbon banana pancakes are unbelievable. I highly recommend them.

Don't love the new burger-centric menu and miss the creative specials, but this is still a solid, friendly neighborhood joint. Hope they don't mess with the brunch menu! Super kid-friendly (a plus in my book) and your dog can join you at the outside tables.

Dakota Blue, the Grant Park staple. Very kid-friendly, so if you're nursing that Sunday hangover, beware. In fact, I've written a haiku dedicated to Dakota Blue. Good food, comfort food. Just be patient with the kids. You may have one soon.

It's not that I don't like kids, I just don't like other people's kids. Specifically, I don't want to see or hear other people's kids banging on the table, crying, whining, or other doing any other annoying kid-like behavior while I'm trying to brunch. Soooooo, if you are nodding along and agreeing with me, chances are you shouldn't come here for Saturday brunch. As far as the food, it's pretty good. I ordered the Crabs Benedict with cheese jalapeno grits. My crab cakes were a bit too "blackened," aka burnt for my liking, but the poached eggs were perfect. Not too runny, but just right. My husband ordered the Grand Marnier french toast and it was very impressive. I'm not a fan of french toast, but the bite I had of his made me rethink my stance a little. I would recommend this place as a nice FAMILY brunch spot because the prices are very affordable, it's in a great location (right across from Grant Park and the zoo), and is extremely kid friendly. However, if you are single or married sans kids, this place probably isn't that good enough to roll through.

This place is gross. We live in the neighborhood, so we've been there several times, every time hoping that it would be better than the time before. The tables are always sticky, and the toys in the kids corner are disgusting. What's the point in having a Kids Corner if it's not kept clean? The food is mediocre, at best. The last time we went, we ordered a pasta for our little one and the server came back to tell us the pasta was "inedible." My sausage tasted like it was frozen from a box and my wife's omelette was nothing special. We have been sorely disappointed. We hoped for a good neighborhood place we could go to over and over again, but this is not it.

We loved it! Except for the food. The food was just okay. Hit and miss, sandwich minimal on the meat. Roast pork on it was kinda bland. Fries great. Nachos great except not enough cheese. Service great, fellow patrons great (it was out anniversary and we easily found a photo helper) kid area fantastic if you don't mind them getting a little dirty. We will go back but be careful about our menu selections. We will definitely talk to our server more next time.

A Sunday morning around noon normally equates to long lines and long wait times. In fact, the original plan was to go to the breakfast place with such attributes but this extremely hungry person just had no patience for that today. Instead I traveled down the street to Dakota Blue and as soon as I entered I was seated. Now, just because I was able to sit down immediately does not mean the food is mediocre. Just the opposite this vegan breakfast I ate was superb. Dakota Blue was a hidden treasure.

The cheese dip is as out of control as the children in this neighborhood hangout. In this case, I mean it as a compliment to the cheese dip, because it is heavenly. An order comes with a huge (easily enough for 6 people) basket of warmed, thin, tri-color chips and a soup-sized bowl of creamy, lightly spicy cheese dip. Forget Tin whoever up the street -if you're craving tex-mex apps in the Grant Park area, come by Dakota Blue. If it's a Wednesday, their drink special is a pint-sized margarita, which I definitely plan to try next time. After my first review where I first noted the poorly behaved children that overwhelm this restaurant, I got a kind message from the owner/manager who mentioned that they were looking for ways to address this issue. On this most recent dinner visit, there was a table of unattended children racing around the dining area, yelling, and banging on the tables. Yikes. Dakota Blue remains reliable, in the chill atmosphere, the cheap prices, the excellent food, and in the ill-behaved hipster children that inhabit this 'hood.

Their vegetarian chili is unreal. So delicious - I actually told the server that she must have given me the wrong kind of chili, because there's no way this is vegetarian. Rest of the menu seems pretty good, but the chili won me over. :) Had to share - in light of today's company chili cook-off. Check it out!!

I work down the street from Dakota Blue's so I used to come here every now and then for lunch. I hadn't been in a while so a friend & I decided to try here for brunch since Ria's Bluebird Cafe was INSANELY packed and this was right down the street. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we wanted. There were quite a few specials to choose from which was a good thing. I chose the Banana Bourbon pancakes with sausage, a ham & cheese omelet, and Jalapeno cheese grits. My friend chose the Blueberry pancakes, sausage, and regular grits. I must say right off that the Banana Bourbon pancakes were amazing! As soon as I tasted them, I automatically fell in love! I will probably get these every time i come here for brunch. They were also very nice sized. The omelet was really good & was a nice portion. I was only able to finish half of it. The sausage left a lot to be desired but with me being a meat eater I didn't have a problem finishing the 2 links. My friend was a bit more disappointed with her food. I tasted her blueberry pancakes and I can't say they were bad, but compared to the banana bourbon pancakes that I can see why she was kinda disappointed. The most lackluster part of the meal was DEFINITELY the grits. Both orders of grits were very watery. We figured if we let the grits cool down a bit that maybe they would thicken up a bit but that wasn't the case. The grits seemed more like soup with how watery they were. I don't know who made the grits but they couldn't have possibly been from the south! We like our grits THICK! I won't order grits here again. Overall, the experience was A-Ok. If I ever have the urge for Banana Bourbon pancakes then i'll be back. Outside of that, I'll probably just drop thru when it's convenient.

Great place to grab breakfast, lunch or brunch and have some drinks. Dakota Blue has a laid back and rustic environment that is kid-friendly, adult-friendly and beer friendly. A great spot that has some of the nicest servers in Atlanta!

I ordered the nachos with chili con carne and it was clearly from a can. They did have some good salsas to go with it though. I can't imagine ever ordering food here again. It does have a really nice seating area outside for when the weather is nice, and the area around grant park is just so warm and comfy. Plus free wi-fi woo hoo! Go here to chill and have a drink, not for the food! Service was very friendly btw. P.S. There are many families with little kids that eat here, which is fine, but the folks behind me could not control their little girl! She kept throwing stuff. It was kinda funny at first but then I got annoyed. This is not the fault of the restaurant (or even the parents, I mean she was 2!) but just be aware in case that's not your type of atmosphere.

I have been here several times and I always get good service, good food and a price that I can't argue with. I love how family oriented it is. You will always find someone outside on the patio with their dog, and they even have a kids corner that really makes this place a true neighborhood spot. The Cuban is really good. The other food I've had wasn't bad by any means, just was a little lack-luster. But like I said, for the price, you really can't argue with it.

My friend lives just down the road from this restaurant so we went for dinner on a Thursday night. It seemed like a lot of mexican food on the menu... but they did have a lot of vegetarian options. My food was A-OK. I was overwhelmed or crying tears of joy but my belly was pleasantly full afterwards. I'd go back for seconds and I really want to try their breakfast menu which seems to be what they are known for!

We stumbled upon this place while walking back to our cars and I must say it was a great surprise!! The Grand Marnier french toast was excellent and so was the rest of the food. The decor was eclectic and the service was good. I would definitely go back....it's a keeper!

We came here for Sunday Brunch. I was first struck by how cute the decor is inside, which made me less sad that my friends didn't want to sit on the patio. It felt like an urbane-picnicky sort of environment, which is exactly what you want when you're having brunch. There are quirky looking coffee mugs, and a sort of idiosyncratic menu, with special written on the chalkboard. I tried a special consisting of poached egg, onions, baked apples (seriously awesome), and maybe more ingredients that I am forgetting. Whatever else was in this dish, it was so very tasty. I also really liked the jalopeno grits. Yum. Service was super kind, and even though we stayed for ever, there was no pressure for our table to be turned over. If I were a local, Dakota Blue would be in my regular brunch rotation.

Decent place in Grant park. Service was ok. Food was good and good portions. I had a burger that was tasty. My wife had cheese steak Cuban. She said bread was great on it.

I love Dakota Blue - it's a family-friendly bar! Love to eat dinner here with my two kids (4 and 2) while they play with the toys (supplied by DB) or draw on the sidewalk. The food is good bar food - burgers, tacos, sandwiches, etc. and the service is good and friendly. Great neighborhood joint and a must for anyone who lives in Grant Park.

Did someone say soysage?? Yup! So yummy & tastes just like real sausage. This is the only place I come to have brunch on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The location is lovely, I recommend sitting outside at one of the many tables they have, but inside is nice too if the weather isn't good. The staff is very friendly & helpful if you're confused about what you should get. Some of my favorites here is the following (in no particular order): French Toast (that comes with this butter with bits of orange peals which gives it this amazing mini kick in your mouth & melts together beautifully). The chocolate chip pancakes, banana bourbon pancakes....say what!?? That's right, I can't describe it, just make sure that you order them whenever you get a chance to have brunch here. It's my ATL jem on all my trips down south. I will always come back for more pancake/ french toast goodness :-)

Went there for breakfast and we were impressed with their friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and good food. Sat on the patio so that our dog can join too :) Had the eggs Florentine and the omelette special (chorizo and provolone). They both came with home fries (they are listed as hash) and they were fantastic! Both plates also came with fresh fruit . The food was very well cooked. I am not going to say that it was anything exceptional, but it was one of the best breakfast we've had recently.

This place is terrible. I ordered the Reuben Cuban. The sandwich I received was pot roast, covered in sauerkraut. I asked the server about it, and she replied, "Yeah, they like ran out of corned beef, so they had to use other meat". Why she didn't think to tell me this prior to serving me is beyond me. Stay away from this place, unless you like servers lacking basic service skills and weird pot roast sandwiches. Also, from what I saw the kitchen is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Disorganized, dingy, and dirty all around.

I had a nice enough time and the staff was nice but the food needs seasoning. Salt and pepper would go a long way.

My top notch brunch joint- never a wait here! Why stand in line for french toast when you can come here and get banana bourbon pancakes or crab cakes benedict? They serve some alcohol - though I don't believe they have a full bar. Big deep booths allow for a decent quantity of company to join you. The interior is kitschy and cute and exterior they have a nice amount of patio seating. There is no parking excepting street - I've never had a time when its been difficult to find however.

I'm not gonna lie and tell you the food is to die for, or the staff is always perfect. But if you want a casual, neighborhood place, that's super family friendly and has kick ass sangria then Dakota Blue is for you. Friday nights at Dakota Blue are a Grant Park family tradition, and one the many reasons I love living here. Be warned if you don't like small children you may want to find another place to get dinner ;)

Tonight, I had the tacos for the very first time. As a vegetarian who really does like tofu, I am always reluctant to try tofu in something that tofu has no business in. So just to be sure I could eat something, I ordered a plate of tots just in case. I wish I'd skipped the tots. While delicious, as usual, they were entirely unnecessary. The Tofu Super Tacos were amazingly good. Tofu, guacamole, black beans, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream on two "crispy soft" tortillas... Awesome! Kudos for not serving wimpy tacos. And kudos some more for putting tofu on one and making it taste perfect! You won't need a side with these. I ate the tacos because they were big and delicious. I ate the tots because they were there - why do I always do that? Oh, and we ate outside and brought the dog. You can do that. :-)

Great neighborhood joint. Fine beer selection, good bar food and very friendly staff. My only complaint is that it isn't open past 10pm.

I love Dakota Blue! I always get two meals out of every meal I order, for under $10. Brunch on the weekends is awesome. The staff is pretty nice, and the new drink specials make it even more worth the trip. I always order the black bean cuban for lunch or dinner. It is SO craveable. And for brunch, I alternate between the Eggs Salvador Dali and the Atomic Hoedown depending on my mood. Pros: The food is excellent. The prices are low. The neighborhood is adorable. The staff is nice. Cons: If you're not a fan of children, you might want to steer away on the weekends at lunch time or when the zoo closes. Also, there's a weird fly infestation outside which kind of ruins what would otherwise be a nice Sunday morning outdoor brunch. Most of the art inside sucks (totally not a big deal, but someone had to say it).

Let me just say I am loving this place. I've visited it twice in the past few months for lunch. There is something about the neighborhood feel of this place that just makes me happy. The food is moderately price and extremely good. I can see this place staying in rotation of my must visit places.

On saturday, the family went out to the zoo and then came here for brunch. 6 adults a 3 year old and a 4 month old. We sat outside. The flys were buzzing like crazy. Luckily they have a big fly swatter outside. The three year old loved that and the sidewalk chalk. I had the Dallas Cowboy Wrap which was yummy. It's scrambled eggs with either bacon or sausage in a wrap with sour cream and pico on top. I had the bacon. The potatos on the side were AMAZEING!!!! We all had a good time being with family but the flies were a big distraction!

Dakota Blue, represents a blissful alternative to the canned PBR angst of East Atlanta's "now" frightenly trendy what-ever-hood. And as an added bonus.... nobody has been shot, mugged, or kidnapped while trying to go home from here. Refreshing indeed!!!

Like everyone has noted, this is THE spot to bring kids, especially after a day at the Zoo. Friendly and quick service, good beer list, and the food was solid. Dogs are welcome outside and it's the perfect place to soak up Grant Park life. Bathrooms were a little questionable, but otherwise a super cute spot! +1 star for the sidewalk chalk out front. A seriously genius idea.

It was a very stressful afternoon getting ready to ship my wife off to Afghanistan and a dear friend to Germany for three years. We needed a place that could seat about 10 and was dog friendly. Several other places we checked out didn't live up to their billing for either. We stumbled across Dakota Blue on a site listing dog friendly places. Gave them a call and were pleased to hear that they had nice shaded tables outside which was perfect for such a beautiful day. The young lady serving us was very nice given the chaotic nature of our group. She politely reiterated the no split check policy, where most waitstaff would get snippy. Given all that, the food was the real highlight. We ordered chicken nachos, fish tacos, a Reuben Cuban and a number of other items. Everything was delicious. A lot of places don't know how to season their food or don't for fear of offending someone. These guys have it spot on. We will be back without a doubt.

Cute neighborhood spot. Sitting outside was charming. Service was a little slow/understaffed but the Cuban sandwich was terrific. Beer selection was pretty good too.

I've been coming here since Fall 2007 after I first moved to Atlanta. While the food isn't knock-you-in-the-groin out of this world, it's great for a walk down the street bite to eat. Overall rating: Not crap.

I live right down the street from Dakota Blue and love going there on a balmy afternoon to share drinks with friends on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. They have great service -ask for Daniel during brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings- and good food -the veggie chili and the eggs florentine are my favorites. Dakota Blue definitely caters to families, so, beware, there's always a lot of kids running around. They also display local artist's creations around the inside of the restaurant and it changes frequently. Another great quirk- they have an ice cream freezer in the front that holds old favorites like ice creams sandwiches and nutty buddies.

Omigosh, I had barbeque sauce dripping down my arms and you know what? I didn't care. I was going to munch on that sucker until my stomach said no more. And munch I did. I was also pleased with the tots - if you know me, you know that once your menu says tots I'm so on it like, well, ketchup on a tot. So crispy! I loved the patio area outside as well. It was great to enjoy the gorgeous fall evenings we're having lately, and while kids were running crazy up and down the sidewalk, there was chalk for them to play with and plenty of watchful parents and pets around to make sure they played safe. Oh and the pets! Water bowls and puppies make for happy smiles while the sauce drips down your arms. Many thanks to Michael D. and Halef G. for taking us here! Was a real treat.

All right, then, I was the 'fry connoisseur' partner, whom Michael D. had mentioned in the very previous review. Seriously though, upon reading Michael's review, the manager/owner contacted us to learn more about the fries 'issue', and since then, I've visited Dakota Blue twice, and the fries is getting better and better. Not perfect (yet), but it's getting there. And for sure, they care about you! So A+ for management! Back to my review. Dakota Blue is the place to eat out! I love going here, because it is within walking distance from where I live in quaint Grant Park neighborhood (ironically, three times I've been here, we always drove!). Plenty of street parking all around the restaurant, which extend out to the neighboring streets, but DO NOT park at Grant Central Pizza parking lot - not to the point where you get booted/towed (I don't think the two restaurants are snarky businesses), but for courtesy, guys. You don't want to find someone parked on your driveway to visit your neighbors. Its location is quite seclusive from the rest of the city, but I guess that's what one would call as 'hidden gem'. Burgers are extremely tasty (I've had Blue Cheese Bacon Burger - to die for, and Mushroom Swiss Burger), of which both cooked to my likings. Greasy and thick (don't know about healthy) - but to summarize it all, what an American burger should look and taste like. There are plenty of condiments on the table, and several choices of hot sauce, all are good. Fries, well, read above. And everything is served as laid-back type of place, with plastic baskets instead of proper dining china and paper napkin box on the table. Price is very reasonable, a plate (well, basket) of burger and a side dish cost $6.95. Service is fast!! Having good friends over, we ordered food and talked, and the next thing you knew, the food was on the table. Friendly servers, although the server from my last visit was a little bit snappy and somewhat rushed us out of the door (grabbing our bill payment wallet before it got signed), albeit the place wasn't busy at all. But the server was still very friendly, though! The place itself has a lot of characters. It is very cozy, and there are several (long) booths that can comfortably seat six people along the wall and tables for the rest of the room. Several outdoor seating, where one could have (friendly) furry friends to accompany him/her for the meal. Inside, lots of artistic features along the wall and the decoration, and I like that the toilet (well, at least at Mens room) is actually environmentally friendly, with the half-flush option, exactly the kind of toilets you can find in Australia. Fire code issue with main doors swing inwards? So if there was an emergency evacuation, remember to pull the door IN to get out from the restaurant! Would I go back here? Absolutely, and I'm glad that I support local business. My money stays in my neighborhood, what a good concept.

Had brunch there the other day. Ended up picking Dakota Blue off of a couple favorable reviews and cheap prices, even though I wanted a mexican breakfast. Huevos Rancheros on the menu? Score. We sat ourselves and I went back to my car and to the bathroom before we saw a waiter. We ordered food and it showed up not too long after although it was missing a few things we asked for. Waiting for the server to turn back up took a little while. I went looking for him and he was sitting on the bar talking and texting. Ok, buddy. The food was just ok but the service was offputting. i can understand busy, or new, or whatever. i don't appreciate apathy.

I work in Grant Park but I always opt to eat at Grand Central. I decided to stop in for lunch on a random beautiful day. I like the fact that they are very family friendly, even having a book shelf with donated books for children to read! The few tables that are cramped on the sidewalk just don't give me a patio feel at all but the inside is quite simple and spacious. I had the lamb sandwich for lunch, the lamb was nice n tender n juicy and flavorful and my salad was simple but good n fresh. The tator tots were also pretty basic - nothing to really Oohh&Aahh about here. It's just really a laid back atmosphere, just like Grant Park..but would I go back? Ummmm maybe, but for brunch.

Just visited Dakota Blue last night and was quite impressed. The :30 second review: Pros: Out of this world Adobo Chicken burrito. Order this with a side of their BBQ sauce (which isn't a typical BBQ sauce) and you can't go wrong Atmosphere is adequately funky, but not over the top Prices are very reasonable, service was really friendly Giant booths are great for groups Cons: The nacho chips are pretty lame It is definitely kid-friendly; it was quiet last night but I could see where all the munchkins running around could make the place a bit more hectic than it ought to be Overall, a solid neighborhood joint with well-above-average grub.

I am so long overdue for writing a review it isn't even funny. Actually, I'm surprised that I haven't been kicked out of the Yelp cool club yet. In attempt to save myself I picked Dakota Blue as my return review from a way too long break from Yelp. Dakota Blue and I have a long history. I went to Dakota Blue with zoo friends shortly after it opened years ago and wasn't all that wow'ed then. Recently Melissa B and I dropped by before hitting Aerial Fabrics class at D.A.I.R. My hopes were up for improvements at Dakota Blue since it has been several years since my first visit. My overall assessment is: meh. Meh, is better than bad, but not as good as awesome. It's just average. The thing that always strikes me about Dakota Blue is the amount of local neighborhood support the place gets. If was a Grant Park citizen I'm sure I'd be just as jazzed to bring my 4 nonexistent children to Dakota Blue and let them run around and annoy people the whole time. Okay, disclaimer, I'm not in a kid mood lately. So the overpopulation of children at DB influenced my overall experience. The food is just sort of average. The environment average. The service average. Not a bad place but not something I'll find myself craving. I'm sure if you have a family, live in Grant Park and want some place to congregate with neighbors than this place would be perfect for you. I'm just not that person.

Remember that theme song from Cheers? This is the place the servers and I all know each other. Travel half way across the ATL for this? Definitely not. But this is the neighborhood spot. I don't have to tell you Grant Park people, you already know. Expect families, expect budget priced tex-mex, expect healthy portions, and Yes, if you go on a weekend afternoon, expect crowds (do you honestly expect there not to be a crowd at a brunch spot? though, I wouldn't say that is their strongest meal). You can easily get in and out for a quick lunch or stay for several beers.

Overall, it's one of those places that always makes the list of close, reasonable options for a last-minute dinner....but it very rarely ends up being the selection. Be careful when you head over to Dakota Blue- the NIMBY intown moms and dads will let their rug rats crawl all over you and no one seems to care or feel the need to control their little treasures. The food is fine and the prices are pretty good. It is a serviceable option but not a destination.

Awesome outdoor seating but TERRIBLE menu (at least for lunch on a Saturday!) literally all they had on the menu was omelets, burritos, and burgers. Nothing light or unique. We split a vegetarian burrito 3 ways because none of us were THAT hungry and it was the only thing that we thought we would want to eat. Where did the soups and fish tacos that everyone writes about go? Won't be returning until the menu changes or expands.

The wife and I went on a Friday for lunch. With this being in Grant Park, we were surprised that there wasn't a lunch crowd. We started off with chips, salsa and guacamole. The salsa had a watery taste to it with a spicy kick in the end. The guac was pretty good and caused me to carb up their big basket of chips really quickly. I ended up eating the brisket tacos. You get 2 tacos with chips. I subbed the chips for tots. I'm not a coleslaw guy but the slaw they have coupled with the sauce/juices from the brisket blended really well together. We will definitely be back. Afterwards, we walked off the food by walking the park.

It is 82 degrees on a summer day in Atlanta and I am as cool as a cucumber having lunch outside at Dakota Blue. This is the best patio seating in Atlanta. Fully shaded by the mature trees and nestled on the sidewalk on Grant Ave offering plenty of people watching with the folks coming and going down the street. My lunch was simple. A half Cuban sandwhich which was a nice size and Tater Tots. The tots I have declared the best in Atlanta. They were crispy and golden and plenty of them. The sandwhich had a little too much mustard but that might be to hide the fact that the pork was a little dry. Overall it was a nice sandwhich and I would come back here again.

Had Sunday brunch here yesterday. Our food was good, can't remark on the alcohol because we were too early for that. We got a table on the sidewalk & it was great to enjoy the fresh air. While I enjoyed my ground beef taco, I did find the flavors to be a little bland. With the pico de gallo in it, I thought it should've had more flavor. It did come with salsa though, so that helped. Not exactly memorable, but an easy walk to the Grant Park farmers market afterwards made it a perfect Sunday outing!

Dakota Blue is a grant park neighborhood joint that has decent service, cheap beer, and average food. It's around the corner from my house and I've been here too many times to count. They have daily drink specials and it has a friendly, casual vibe. The owners live in the neighborhood and lots of patrons know each other. PBR pitchers are $7 and the sandwiches and burgers are decent. There are always specials that are worth trying out. If you can snag a seat outside on a nice day, it's not a bad place to be. Dakota Blue is nothing to seek out if you're not local, but it's a nice place to kick back and relax with a cold one if you're in the neighborhood or visiting the zoo.

Had a great meal here recently with some friends. Tried the salmon and lamb burger specials and both were fantastic. Prices are affordable, especially for the quality of food. We enjoyed sitting at the outside tables on the sidewalk. Our server Maya was fantastic. Very attentive, funny, and sweet, she made our visit very pleasant. She also informed us that they'd be remodeling soon.

I was between 2 starts and 3. The first time I went I had the burger. It was great. The second time I had the Cuban Ruben and it was terrible. The bread was dry and the meat was drier. I chewed forever on this jerky like meat. The Margarita I had was good and the service was adequate. The kid friendly atmosphere is probably great if you have kids. If you don't...meh.

Pleasantly surprised. Found on a Saturday night when we wanted to do SOMETHING but didn't know what. Low key, gluten free beer and in Grant Park. Our server was friendly and helpful; a thumbs up from my roommate.

Really wanted to like this place, but the service was slow -- we were on the patio for at 5-10 min before someone came, and when we went inside to see if there was a hostess or some menus, we found no one. The burger was decidedly mediocre, kind of fatty (I know it's a burger, but I swear it was like 70:30 ground). When I asked about wine the server said, "uh... we have red and white cabs ... Uh ...." I hope to go back once more and order something else -- I know the patio can be tough for servers, but "fool me once..." I do have high hopes b/c it's a great location and the menu does offer what sounds like good grub.

  • R C.

Servers were very nice but completely untrained - with a ratio of 3 tables per server they still weren't able to keep up with a mild dinner rush in a very informal dinner environment. Waited 20 minutes at a dirty table for a menu. The food, when it finally arrived 45 minutes later, was good. Nice seating area outside. Don't go here if you are in a hurry or need your food prepared the way you asked for it.
