I've always passed by this place, but it's in a hidden shopping plaza so I never had the inkling to try it out until yesterday. I came here with a colleague and so glad we did. It's a charming little cafe that serves your typical soup, salad, sandwich items. I ordered the Monster Turkey sandwich on Ciabatta with fries (choice of fries, salad, veggie) and coworker got soup/salad combo of lobster bisque and house garden salad. My sandwich was delicious, they really pack on the meat in this and thus call it the "Monster". The bread was equally delicious. The ciabatta was just the right amount of hard/crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside so it was easy to bite down without making me feel like i'm breaking off my teeth. I love the house dressing (balsamic) they put in the sandwich, it adds a tangy element! The fries were okay, i think they sprinkled some herbs on it which is a nice touch, but it was more on the chunky soft side and i prefer my fries crispy. Coworker really enjoyed the lobster bisque and it comes with a tiny glass of sherry where you have the option of pouring it in your soup, but she had a stressful day and took it as a shot instead! Salad was just your typical garden salad. The service is really on point and everyone is very friendly. I did notice most of the clientele were older females having a ladies lunch ^^ Will be making more visits in the future.

I went here for lunch-date with a relative who was raving about it. It doesn't live up to that kind of hype, not even for lunch. I thought this place was kind of sad. Very mediocre food, and a bit overpriced for what it was: typical American traditional, a few rungs above burgers and fries (though they do have those). The service was really good, but there was almost no one in there. We sat next to the window and it was bone-chillingly cold. Blehhh

Crowded on a Friday night and a small place, the noise level was pretty high. But even on a chilly rainy night they were able to seat us on the patio because it was covered and had heaters. That was nice, a little less chaotic. The food was very good. We had apps of blue cheese potato chips and grilled artichoke, both satisfying and delicious. My entree was the special which was sautéed scallops and shrimp served with ginger jalapeño infused rice. Scallops were cooked well but I think the shrimp were kind of small. A little salty but not too bad. Rice was a fantastic touch to the dish. I tried the crab cakes and they were a great surprise; hardly any breadcrumbs, just beautiful lump crabmeat. I would order those next time. We tried 2 desserts made in house, and they were delish. If they have carrot cake when you're there, don't miss it. Wine selection was decent. I thought this meal was a little pricy given the atmosphere was missing for me. Service was good. I always a appreciate a restaurant that brings all the entrees at the same time no matter how large the party.

I was shopping in the area with my family and needed to find somewhere yummy for lunch on a Saturday. I found Brooklyn Cafe on Yelp and it looked acceptable, so I made reservations. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We showed up and the table was ready. This place feels much fancier than it really is. They have a great bar setup and wine selection. They have mainly salads and sandwiches, which was perfect for lunch. Our server informed us they are known for their crab cakes, so three of us ordered the crab cake salad, which was the special of the day. Delicious! The heirloom tomatoes were incredible as well as the crab cakes. One person ordered the shrimp, tomato and avocado salad and said it was very good. Two people ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and also enjoyed that. We all cleaned out plates. The best part: the prices are amazing and the most expensive thing is like $15. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent meal! Food and service were both great. For starters had the California artichokes and the grilled avocado and crab - both were great. Some salads and then the main. Before I skip past the salad - not a big kale fan, but wow, what a kale salad. Around the table we had a lobster enchilada special (sounds odd but tasted great); Jake's Creole Chicken, Sausage and Rice (actually met Jake - nice kid); and shrimp tacos. All were uniquely made and tasted great. The only nit is that we were in the mood for a margarita - bad idea at a wine bar. But I consider that my fault not theirs - I should know better.

Went here on a monday night around 6. I noticed the perfect ambience as soon as we walked in. Perfect lighting, really cozy. It wasn't crowded at all, so a good time to come here, since i'm sure it can get busy. We sat at the bar, and had a great bartender. We ordered the smoked salmon appetizer, and the artichoke appetizer. If you have never had an artichoke like this, you must try it! It is SOOOO delicious! And basically you get a whole side of smoked salmon for the app, so you could easily make it a meal. For dinner, we split the chicken with goat cheese. Delish! But it had goat cheese, so we knew it would be. We decided to come here because we didn't want to spend a huge amount of money on dinner. This place was perfect! Delicious food, nice, cozy feel, great service, and the price was right. Great wine list, as well.

We've frequented this place a couple of times. And yes, I agree with the previous fellow Yelper, it's a pleasant change from all the chain restaurants in this city. The staff is friendly and attentive. I was happy to also see it's more of an adult place; no little kids were screaming or hanging out which we seem to run into a lot. We're riddled with bad restaurant experiences but BC gave us hope that not all places are a complete waste of money or time. This is definitely a place of regulars. It seemed everyone at the bar knew each other and the bartender was nice enough to introduce us to everyone. I've ALWAYS loved their grilled artichoke. Oh my goodness, I could eat it everyday. We order it every time. They do such a great job with it. Last night at I had the chicken piccata. It was tough, so tough I had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife. My husband had the specia, Halibut which included Bree mashed potatoes... they were so good. We usually split a desert here but unfortunately they've decided to take the Bread Pudding off the menu. I was so disappointed. It has always been my favorite. We ordered banana fosters cheese cake. It was very tasty but I do miss the Bread Pudding. We'll definitely be back as we always are. It's a great date place. super friendly staff, there's outdoor seating, the clientele is mostly adults 35 y.o & up and an overall classy joint in a city over saturated with crappy chain restaurants.

Their crab cake salad is AWESOMELY awesome!!!!! You get a HUGE crab cake to eat with a bed of mixed greens and a large slice of tomato! I wanted to literally lick the plate!!!!

We went there for the first time last night. Everything was fantastic. our waiter JT was great and did a great job describing the specialties. We had the artichokes which were excellent. Crabcakes had no filler - just lump crab. Service was fast and courteous. Unbelievable Keylime pie!! We'll be back!!

This is one of my favorite places to dine at outside the perimeter. I use to come here for lunch all the time when I worked for IBM and was able to eat here again before I went to see a show at The Punchline. Of course walking in, i ran into one of my friends that I have not seen in a year! That's what I love about this place...it's got a strong following and the fans just keep coming back. It's like my personal Cheers, OTP! The food is amazing...the best thing on the menu...the CRABCAKES! If it's your first time...don't look at anything else, just get this...trust me! All crab meat with no filler! If you want a smaller portion the crab cake salad is a very good option. Honestly, I've tried a lot of things on their menu and everything is delicious so you can't go wrong with anything you choose. Definitely a must if you are in the Sandy Springs neighborhood!

I went to Brooklyn Cafe today for lunch. I had the turkey sandwich, which comes with a choice of fries, green beans, asparagus, or vine-ripened tomato. I chose the green beans and was pleased to find that they were fresh, uncut beans that had been quickly sauteed and then lightly salted with sea salt. They had a nice crispness to them with a good flavor. The turkey meat on the sandwich was plentiful and good quality, thickly shaved directly from a turkey breast, not pressed "deli" meat. My friend had the salad with salmon and said that it was really good. The salmon portion was a generous lunch portion of about 6 ounces. The service was quick and attentive, but not annoying. I was impressed with the overall quality of food. High marks for this place. Will most definitely go back.

I'm just going to go ahead and give Brooklyn Cafe 5 stars for their tomatoes alone. I promise, even if you don't like tomatoes you will like these! I could not believe how ripe and juicy these slices of summery goodness were - and this was back in February! How on Earth does a chef acquire perfect summer fare in the dead of winter? Who knows, but it's working! Oh, and the avocado/crab appetizer was fabulous & practically melted in my mouth. And the salmon...couldn't have been any better. The food here truly is excellent!

I go there for lunch once a week, as my office is just around the corner. This place is short on the frills, but great on honest food. Small menu, but everything is good and very tasty. Mike, the Chef, used to work at Houston's. His partner Jeff, is the front man, and occasional chef. If in doubt about what to order, settle on The Crab cakes, as they are out of this world. They pour a generous serving of wine. If it is your first time, ask for Jeff or Ellis (waiter) and tell them that Harry recommended you to go there.

My experience at the Brooklyn Cafe was similar to Louise G.'s - disappointing. My wife and I decided to stop in for a late dinner on a Saturday evening just after 9. When we entered, the restaurant was less than half full, yet we were seated right next to a party of 6 who were enjoying an evening of cocktails. I don't blame my fellow guests - but I do question why the hostess did not at least give us the option of sitting in a quieter location - after about 15 minutes we did move. The hostess told us that our server (Alex or Alice) would be with us shortly but nothing for 10 minutes. When a waiter (who never identified himself) finally ambled over he asked for our order - no recitation of the specials, no offer of salad. My wife ordered shrimp tacos and I ordered the salmon. The food did come out quickly. My wife found her shrimp to be very tasty. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the salmon - a flat, unappetizing piece perched on a mound of mashed potatoes sitting in a grainy, gristly brown liquid (they called "au jus"). I think that in my life I have sent food back maybe once or twice - this $24 salmon dish was so unappetizing, fishy tasting and downright nasty that I put my fork down after a bite or two. Despite the small size of the restaurant, our waiter was nowhere to be found - in fact I don't recall that our original waiter ever came to check on us - so I flagged down a female server/hostess and told here that I could not eat the salmon. I asked for a vegetable plate, figuring that was safer. The veggie plate was a little better - perhaps warranting a 3 - the veggies were fresh but the dish was just greasy. All in all, this was a very disappointing visit and I am striking the Brooklyn Cafe from my list of eateries. As noted, my wife did enjoy her shrimp dish and the food did appear quickly. My wife also enjoyed her glass of wine, which had been recommended by our original waiter. But overall, the service was indifferent and thoughtless and my salmon dish was atrocious.

We had Jeff Trump and his crew cater a party for 30 people recently. After determining our wants/needs Jeff presented me with a perfect menu! I didn't change a thing. Jeff's business acumen shines through in his communications. He is thorough and efficient. I was confident that the caterers and the food would be there on time, etc. They were better than I hoped for! Very good food, totally in keeping with our crowd. The service was excellent - the personnel were professional and friendly. They took care of EVERYTHING and allowed us to really enjoy being with our guests without giving it a second thought. I highly recommend Brooklyn Cafe's catering. My husband, who didn't think he wanted catering, is a total convert. He'll never do a party without them now. The pricing was totally reasonable and we think it was money well spent!

This place has the best brie appetizer I've ever had! It's a must try with a pre-dinner cocktail. I had the filet mignon salad and the filet medallions were cooked just perfectly. I'm not a fan of romaine cores in my salad and there were plenty! The dressing was tasty. My husband had the crab cakes and said they were all lump crab meat with no fillers - very yummy. The molten chocolate cake dessert and coffee was delicious. Our meal cost $120. I rated the ambiance "fair" because the seating is a bit cramped feeling. The service was very good and friendly.

In this non-chain deficient segment of Atlanta, Brooklyn Cafe is a ray of hope. You see, it's been around for a while, opening in the early '90's and then getting bought out in '05 with a revamped menu. And trust me, the new menu is a vast improvement from the former basic Italian fare. On my most recent visit I chose the shrimp tacos and they were very good. The shrimp was large and flavorful and the citrus cream sauce was divine. I would love to try the same sauce on chips, salads, and other dishes-- so good! The tortillas were a little dry, but I'm not judging too much as this isn't a Mexican restaurant. The bite of my mom's crab cake was phenomenal. I'd definitely get the crab cake salad next time around. Service is friendly, good wine list, rather short and uninspired beer list. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd drop by pretty regularly, in part because of the tasty eats, but mostly because of the complete lack of decent restaurants in this area.

I give the Brooklyn Cafe five stars because of the following 5 reasons: 1. We were with 2 elderly people, and pulled the car up near the door. As we were helping our elders, the owner of the restaurant saw us and came out to help get them out of the car! He later stopped by our table to check on our meal and was truly engaged in what was going on in his restaurant--really hands on and attentive. 2.Our reservation was at 7:45 and they seated us promptly at a table near the door so there wasn't much walking involved for our group and it wasn't too loud! (Impt. when you are with seniors!) I love it when a restaurant honors your reservation. 3.Our waiter was on top of his game--he knew the menu well including the wine list. He was attentive but not hovering and his suggestions were good. 4. The food was delicious! I always order the crab cake salad because I think it's the best in town. Lots of crabmeat and no filler with a light dressing on the salad--wonderful tomatoes! Others had the shrimp tacos, gazpacho and swordfish special--everyone enjoyed their meal immensely. 5. The place just has a good neighborhood vibe--all ages, obvious "regulars" and people just having a good time. I was dreading the evening with the elderly crew but it ended up being delightful.

I went to Brooklyn Cafe on Saturday night and was extremely disappointed in my experience. It was a beautiful night in Atlanta and we were lucky to get a table for 4 out on the patio. Unfortunately that along with good company was the highlight of our night. The rest was pretty much a comedy of errors. It started with the wine list. As I was with 2 white wine drinkers, we decided to order a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. After ordering, the waiter disappeared for quite a while and finally returned indicating they were our of our selection. No big deal - we picked another one. After a similar wait, he finally came back but had a different bottle entirely and told us they were also out of our 2nd choice. We agreed to the 3rd bottle but had to suggest they give it to us for the (lower) price of the previous selection. The food selection did not go any better. I wanted the Lobster Risotto which they were out of, they were also out of the special (it was only 8pm) and only had one remaining order of another entree 2 others wanted. They told us they couldn't prepare enough Risotto because they had a broken stove, so I'll cut them some slack this time. We finally made our selections and when the food arrived, 3 out of 4 were good, but I must say "nothing to write home about". Unfortunately the 4th entree, the Filet Mignon, which was ordered Medium came out well-done. So we sent it back only to have the replacement filet take forever to arrive, and when it did it was undercooked, borderline rare. So why did it take so long? Management did try to make it right by offering us free dessert. We ordered 2, 1 was complimentary (shouldn't they both have been?) Both were good and we were actually enjoying ourselves despite all the missteps on a such beautiful Saturday night, so it really didn't matter. Here's my advice to the management - please get your act together! This restaurant has been around a long time (by restaurant standards) and if you want to stay around, please pay more attention to stocking your wines and having enough food available. Unfortunately there are a lot of restaurants in the North Atlanta area, so it will likely be a long time before I take a chance on visiting here again. Sorry.

This is the type of neighborhood restaurant that we all need around the corner. Over the last year, I've probably had dinner 4 times, and it has always been solid and interesting. This week, I noticed that some of the price points have dropped -- so if you don't want to drop $20+ on an entree, there's something for you. The wine list is very good, too, and has good price points that won't break the bank. As previously stated, you might not travel from downtown to this, but if you live in the area, you should be going here instead of anything around Perimeter. Finally -- get the house-smoked salmon. It is fantastic, and something we get every time.

I am glad I found this place...went there with some friends for lunch and had a great meal, much better then I expected. I had the blackened mahi sandwich, my wife enjoyed her gazpacho, and the turkey sandwich looked awesome. I will be back to try some other dishes very soon...

I disagree with Marisa. Who says Brooklyn refers to Brooklyn, NY? There's a Brooklyn in just about every state in the US. As a matter of fact, Wikipedia tells me that Brooklyn, Ohio is one of northeast Ohio's most culturally diverse communities so perhaps the Brooklyn Cafe patterns itself after it. I mean who's to say? I love Brooklyn Cafe for a lazy lunch or early dinner before I brave the traffic back home to Old Fourth Ward. Their Caesar salads have one of those awesome Parmesan cheese wafers on top. It's so good. And their fig and walnut salad is just right for a starter when you are really hungry. The roasted pork tenderloin sandwich has great flavor, but sometimes it's a little dry but the panko crusted grouper is a real treat. This place is so down-to-earth and so friendly ... it really makes you feel right at home and I don't even live in the neighborhood. I guess what I am trying to say is that even though I work in Sandy Springs, I've never really identified with Sandy Springs until I walked into Brooklyn Cafe and had a delicious lunch on referral from my co-worker Alyssia. So let's not hold lack of egg creams against a great little neighborhood restaurant. ;)

    (5)
  • Marisa F.

Am I really the only person in Atlanta that's had an egg cream?? I ordered one here, with Ubet Chocolate Syrup no less, and the blank stares I got from the waiter, and then the bartender, and then the manager, all told me what I wanted to know. You can bring a great, romantic, delicious restaurant to Sandy Springs, but you can never bring Brooklyn. Even if egg creams don't make you think Brooklyn like they do for me since perhaps they're just a family tradition, there's really nothing here that screams Brooklyn-style Italian food. It's a nice restaurant though for Sandy Springs and it's usually filled with the locals in that Heards Ferry sort of area. Not worth making the schlep OTP though.

I tried BC again after a long hiatus. I didn't care for the old menu. But last nights meal was fabulous. The best smoked salmon appetizer. Followed with shrimp tacos, a little heavy on the sauce but still very good. My husband had the special of halibut and scallops. Excellent dinner. If you haven't been in a while, GO BACK SOON.

A personable owner, a great chef, an excellent staff, and one of the best small California/Oregon red, can't buy local, winelists in the city. What more do you need? Try anything with tomatoes, try the crab cakes, the nightly fish special, or some of Mike's creative inventions, like the watermelon, tomato, mint salad..(it works). If you want a local cafe with personality and a consistent, knowledgeable staff, I recommend the Brooklyn Cafe.

Ehhh... y'all it's no bueno when I come here, have a 2 hour plus dinner and bottle of wine which was paid by my dear Aunt and I still don't have anything of greatness to "write home about". Spoiled American I feel, but that said, let's proceed with the review. A restaurant described as "American" I would describe as "safe menu". I am a little weary of any restaurant who uses this term and doesn't have a burger. I enjoy a small menu, but it didn't really flow well and was a little too intentionally "people pleasing" versus getting a feel of what they were known for. I don't really understand a place that has 10-12 entrees ranging from Risotto to Ribs to Sausage and Rice to Shrimp Tacos. Such a large range leaves huge gaps for palate discrepancies which I experienced being that I tasted the steak, shrimp tacos, and lobster bisque. For the price, I would at least expect a piece of bread or complimentary Andes mint but was left in the dust. To sum it up, I rarely trust restaurants in a shopping center. Snobby, but 9 times out of 10 correct in my stereotype. Would've been better off to "go corporate" a bit down the street at Ruth Chris. Blah and blah.

We love The Brooklyn Cafe and have been coming here forever. In fact, we're headed over tonight for one of their charity dinners. The owners are very community focused! My personal favorite is the Shrimp Tacos with an incredible cream sause & my husband loves the Strip Steak. The bread pudding is so decadent. Other favorites include the artichokes with dipping sauce, grilled asparagus, lobster bisque, fig & walnut salad. I could go on & on! The Brooklyn Cafe is so customer-service oriented & is always happy to make a substitution.

how can you knock a place that is so generous with their wine portions? had a wonderful meal last friday night there - cheese fondue appetizer had bacon & shrimp! um hello?! also had the sea bass special & new lobster enchilada everything was delicious and although not the lightest of meals :) very much hit the spot after a long day of black friday shopping. or maybe that was the generous wine glasses speaking to us but either way a very nice neighborhood restaurant with a bit of flash. worth the trip.

Best crab cake I've EVER had! It actually has real, juicy, tender crab! Although it lacks breadcrumbs, the dish is utter perfection. No breadcrumbs are needed because the crab cake shines all by itself (with a side of corn of course). I also ordered the avocado egg rolls as starters (but big enough as an entree) and they were divine. The crunchy handmade breading paired splendidly with the smooth avocado filling. It came with a delicious sweet/salty tamari sauce. The egg rolls are a great choice if you're an avocado lover. Overall, seriously amazing food and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. I plan on coming back for more of that crab cake in the future!

LOVE This place. Best wine list in the area. Had ones from South America that were really wonderful. Every dish was interesting and delicious. Service was primo. Very busy any night of the week during regular dinner and lunch hours. We had the roasted artichokes as an appetizer (also available on the roasted veggie platter), which was perfectly cooked with great garlic oil for seasoning. Dinners (as salads) - fresh gulf shrimp, tomatoes, Avocado and greens... best vinaigrette complimented the most beautiful tomatoes (something they are known for) and big beautiful colossal shrimp. AND farm greens with fig, walnuts, and goat cheese. Had been expecting fresh figs, but other than that it was really great. Sit out on the patio if the weather is pleasant.... very nice experience.

There is a lot right with this place. It is small and intimate with a great, upscale neighborhood vibe. The place was at capacity but didn't feel overly crowded. We were greeted almost immediately. We placed drink and appetizer orders. Drinks arrived quickly and we ordered our meals. The appetizer arrived and then the salads came about 1 minute later. I intensely dislike when this happens. Our party of 5 had the following: Blue Cheese Chips - go and get them now. Trust me. For locals, they are better than Buckhead Diner. I am not exaggerating. Walnut & Fig Salad - great flavor and perfect size. The tiny diced peppers were an unwelcome surprise. It took me a few minutes to dig them all out but once I did, I practically licked the plate clean. Caesar salad - really good salad for a Caesar and I am an aficionado. I do wish all restaurants would skip those ridiculously salty Parmesan crisps. Does anyone ever eat them? Strip steak - huge steak perfectly cooked and seasoned. Mashed potatoes portion seemed a little small. Shrimp tacos - these were stellar. No other words to describe them. The pairing of this with a size of asparagus is slightly odd yet still delicious. Would love to see something that is finger food. Braised beef short ribs - mouthwatering, cut with a fork Beef swimming in gravy along with a small portion of mashed potatoes and five carrots. The carrots were badass and the potatoes were great as well. I thought that the gravy was delicious but a tad on the salty side. I would order this again. Bone-in Ribeye steak special - my husband didn't share a bite and practically gnawed on the bone. I am assuming he loved it. Creole Chicken and Sausage over rice - this is what my 12 year son gets every time we eat here. At first I was convinced that it was because it came with two obscenely large pieces of garlic bread. After feigning innocence he then ate the entire dish. We will definitely be back. While it is a little on the pricy side ($160+ for our party which included 3 glasses of wine plus waters), the portions were great sizes and our server (guy with dark hair and big puffy sideburns) did a great job taking care of us. Look for puffy sideburns if you go in there and sit in his section.

We found this place on accident. At first I thought it was a bit expensive, but went ahead anyway. To get to the point, it was Great! I had the lamb chops; with brown rice salad, with cranberries tossed in a yogurt sauce. Omg! Oh and a nice large glass of Malbec. It was literally one of the best meals I've had in Atlanta in the 15 years I've lived here. They remind me of a better version of 5 Seasons. The quality of that one meal, the chill ambience, great service and generous wine amounts will have me back soon! Updates to follow.

Good food, service is above average. Little pricey for what you get. For some reason bartenders always have an attitude like you are bothering them that borders on rudeness and arrogance. They seem to know the "regulars" and have different attitude towards them. Last time we went to the restaurant, it was empty, but we were denied a table due to call ahead reservations. We ate at bar, and when done eating, restaurant was still slow with plenty of open tables.

5 stars: excellent food, service, and ambiance! You will not be disappointed! Signature Items: NY strip- thick grass feed, 100% Lump Crab Cakes, Short Ribs are awesome! Try the Artichokes or smoke salmon for starters...

We happened to stumble upon this place while in the area. My man is from Brooklyn so when I saw we were only 0.8 miles away from the restaurant, it was a must try with a 4 star rating. Upon walking in, we noticed that it wasn't out crowd. The patrons were all older. I'm talking have kids our age older. We decided to stay anyways, because it was a Friday night and packed! Nothing like being in a crowded restaurant on a Friday, people watching. We were greeted by the hostess who said we had about a 20 minute wait, but after a few minutes a woman came to me and told me her husband was getting up from the bar and there would be 2 seats available. So, of course we scooped them up quickly. When we sat at the bar, we were in between a bunch of regulars. A lot of people had been coming there since before they had children. The couple to my right had tried everything on the menu and even had their names engraved on the bar. They gave their recommendations of what to try and we're uber friendly. They were a little tipsy but so nice to talk to. Jabari and I got a couple drinks a conversed with the people around us while waiting for food. I got the braised, boneless short ribs, mashed potatoes and carrots. Freaking awesomeness in edible form! Oh, my drink was nice and sweet but strong, too. My boo got the lamb chops. He said it was awesome sauce too. OK, he might not have said, "awesome sauce" but he said it was delicious. While we were eating, a man to our left finished his steak and was going to throw it away! Jabari was not about to have that... so he tried it. There was so much meat left I couldn't see how the man was just going to throw it away! Jabari ended up eating quite a bit while another patron tasted it and took the remainder home. The used their own forks.. ha ha. This place is definitely a great eatery. We've already decided to come back in the near future and try the great crab cakes everyone keeps mentioning. I love this restaurant and if you're ever near here, stop in and say, "hello" to the regulars!

Brooklyn Cafe is a great little neighborhood spot. I had lunch there recently with my daughter and son-in-law and we all enjoyed ourselves. I had the delicious crab cake salad (not on the menu so be sure to ask) which is gluten-free . . . all crab and no filler. The accompanying field green salad is deliciously dressed and is served with a large homegrown tomato slice. Service is efficient and friendly. Reservations are recommended for this busy place. The menu isn't large so you can be sure that your selection will be freshly prepared.

[TL;DR] I've been for lunch and dinner. The lunch menu I would entertain as a modicum above affordable and a better selection overall. Had the lobster bisque and the awesome fish sandwich. The bisque was flavorful and tastes creamy. Interestingly though, it's not thick like usual bisques. Paired well with the fish sandwich, which is a filet of blackened Mahi Mahi. It had a discernible spicy kick but remained mild overall. Good stuff. Had my eye on my friend's turkey sandwich the whole time, despite that. That is something I have to sample the next time I'm in there. If you like tomatoes, the tomatoes served with bleu cheese and vinaigrette as a side looked like something you do not want to miss.

This place is truly a hidden gem. It's in a fairly indiscreet strip mall and just looking @ the menu doesn't really do this place justice. You really need to try it. Artichokes, Fish/Shrimp Tacos, and the Pork Tenderloin sandwich are my absolute faves here. In combination w/ the fries and you have an excellent meal. If you have room for dessert, try the key lime pie.

A true Sandy Springs gem! Sandy Springers no longer need to drive to Buckhead or Decatur for a great foodie meal. At the invitation of some friends we recently had dinner there. The 4 of us started with the roasted artichokes and smoke salmon apps. Both were great! The wine list, while not pages long, was high quality and had some very good values - we opted for the O'shaughnessy Howell Mt. I had sea scallops over squash risotto and it was delicious. After the wonderful entree we had to try desert so we split a huge piece of chocolate cake 4 ways. Top it all off with a Mac 18 nightcap and this was a dinner experience to remember. This is our new favorite place in the Springs.

Not really what I expected to be honest. I always thought this place was just a soup and sandwich place. Turns out the BAR is well-stocked with interesting wines and familiar booze. What I'll knock this place for is the food. We ordered two different apps and two different entrees. I say "ordered" because one of the apps never showed up. I'm not a food snob by any means, but the food was straight up not good. The lobster bisque was waaaaay too salty. The crab cake doesn't have bread crumbs, which means it was just a crispy blob of hot mayo and crab. My salad had some brown edges and was doused in way too much dressing - which I ordered on the side. I may come back to hang at the bar and try some other menu items - but I'll do it reluctantly.

What a neighborhood gem. Imagine all the flavorful heartiness of a trendy steak & seafood bistro combined with a wine-inspired Napa Valley haunt. Being vegan I miss out. My friend gushed about the richness of the grilled avocado & crab appetizer (obviously a Yelpers fav too). I scarfed up the first order of Panko encrusted tomatoes and then, while scraping the leaves off the grilled artichokes, ordered the tomatoes again. :) For entrees the seasonal vegetable plate was good, with the tomatoes being the standout for me. The Asian Kale side salad was so flavorful (they blanched any bitterness away) that next visit, I may just order 4 of them for dinner. My buddy had fat diver scallops which were seared perfectly. The owner has curated an impressive list of wines including several 90 pointers. The two of us had three bottles, plus a sweet finishing glass of port. When the owner noticed we were wine enthusiasts, he came and poured some tastes for us. Seems like a grill. Eats like a New York village critic's choice. Service was great and very accommodating for my crazy dietary restrictions. Oh, and request Paul to wait on you. He's got the right touch of 'let you enjoy the meal' service.

I really have no idea how this place is rated so highly. I was very unimpressed, especially for the prices. I ordered a "filet mignon" salad. The steak was undercooked for my liking (though I'll blame myself for that, the waiter didn't ask how I wanted it cooked and I didn't tell him). It was also marinated in teriyaki sauce or something, which caught me off guard and I would not have expected in a filet mignon salad. It was drenched in dressing, and worst of all I'm pretty sure there was about a tablespoon of salt covering everything. I've never had a salad that seems inedible because of salt before, but I guess there's a first for everything. It only earns two stars because the artichoke appetizer was decent and the staff was friendly. I will definitely not be going back because of the food though.

Brooklyn Cafe is a pretty decent lunch option if you are in the Sandy Springs area. It is in the same shopping center with Breadwinner Cafe, Little Thai and several other businesses. The same shopping center that never has any parking. Good luck on that front. Especially during peak lunch time. Brooklyn Cafe has a simple lunch menu consisting of several salads, sandwiches and a few special entrees. I've had their Monster Smoked Turkey sandwich which is quite hefty, filling and yummy. Their lobster bisque is also pretty good. On a recent visit, I had the day's specials - crab cake salad and wild mushroom soup. Both were good, not great but good. I think I was expecting a bit more with the salad portion of my salad. It seemed pretty boring for such a nice crab cake. Basic greens, a thick slice of tomato, a bit of corn, I think some carrot shreds and a vinaigrette. Not the best supporting cast for the star. But the crab cake was very nice and full of crab. They have a good wine menu as well. I find Brooklyn Cafe to be a bit overpriced for the location and food but it's good in a pinch when we can't figure out where to go. Service is always great. Crowd's usually the work crowd and the over-botoxed women of Sandy Springs. Ladies, ease up.

I just had a superb dining experience at Brooklyn Cafe. It was pricing for lunch but well worth it if your looking for flavor, non greasy and natural ingredients! There crab cakes were all crab with no fillers, fresh (and I mean fresh) tomatoes with blue cheese and vinegarette was delicious. I ate every piece and hate tomatoes. I also tried the lobster brisque which was not too rich,a little thinner than usual, but great amounts of lump lobster with a hint of sherry! A must try! Can't wait to go back!!!

Went here for lunch for the first time last week and had a great meal! We were promptly seated and our server took our drink order. One of the lunch specials included the crab cake salad (which my mom who was with me has raved about). We both ordered the lobster bisque and the crab cake salad. The lobster bisque came first and was amazing! It came with a tiny shot (quarter or half ounce?) of sherry and a small cup of oyster crackers on the side. I appreciate being given the choice to not have sherry in the soup! The soup was incredible- very rich with lots of lobster meat. You could almost share as its filling and rich! Our entrees of crab cake salads were next. There is a large lump crab meat cake (which is gluten free- no bread or filler) drizzled with a light cream parsley sauce place next to a salad of mixed greens, carrots and fresh corn. It was honestly the best salad I've ever had! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I found it just a little (wee bit) pricey for lunch ($15 for salad, when crab cake entree is $14)- but overall a great dining experience and price will not deter me from returning!

Had a dinner there. An avacado eggroll appetizer was pretty good but also a bit heavy. One dinner entree was a Thai-style shrimp dish, good though not the best Thai I've had--not much in the way of spiceness. But the shrimp were high quality and cooked well. The lamb chops are also tasty--I think they are proficient at grilling in general. The dessert bread pudding was delicious, probably the highlight of the meal.

All I can say is WOW! I was at a business meeting last week at the Brooklyn Cafe and my clients and I had an awesome experience! For starters the crab cakes were amazing! Another must have on the menu was the Lobster Bisque! The service was world class and I even had the opportunity of meeting the owner of the location, JIMMY you outdid yourself by putting this all together... Great food, great ambiance, great people! Thanks again!

No bread? We had dinner with friends last week & this was our first and last visit. service was typical anywhere good, but the food did not wow us. I like that they have a short menu as this shows creative fresh cooking. price level is too high for: cheap patio seating, annoying heat lamps, no bread with the meal or offered, no refill on water. High price for such a casual place. food was good but can get better Thai and seafood elsewhere at their price point.

My wife and I have only been here once but it was really great! We had the gazpacho which hit the spot on a warm day, and I had the fish sandwich which was simply delicious! We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the best part is they're dog friendly. Our pooch had a comfortable little spot in the shade with a bowl of water while we enjoy our tasty meal. Thanks Brooklyn cafe for a great afternoon dinner, we will definitely be back!

Wow, the crab cake salad....SO amazing! And I don't say that very often!! The lobster bisque coulda had a bit more meat in it and it coulda been a tad thicker, but it did have a great taste though. Overall great experience!

I just knew I would love Brooklyn Cafe and am kicking myself that I haven't become a regular diner here sooner!! How'd I have such a certainty it'd be right up my alley? Well, a longtime fave GM of my old preferred Houston's is now the owner and I'd heard that Jeff had taken his spin on a number of my most beloved dishes and put them on the Brooklyn Cafe menu . . . and indeed, he has! With excellent results, no less. Stopped in last week while The Boy had a sales call at another spot in the complex and had a most pleasant visit with my server Heather, and even better, enjoyed the amazing artichokes. Verdict: BETTER than the ones I love at Houston's, AND they're on the menu all the time not just as a special. Another plus is that there are just two in the dish, so not only is it a little less expensive but it's a more friendly serving-size for one/me. I'm in love! Great wine list (I did find it interesting that Jeff chose not to serve the very popular at Houston's Peachtree Sthulmuller Chardonnay by the glass, just by the bottle) and lots of things I can't wait to return to try . . . the smoked salmon app and a sandwich that looks strikingly like the tasty Biltmore. There are a number of things totally different from Houston's though, so don't get the idea that it's some carbon copy! A great selection of salads - one with goat cheese and cranberry I have my eye on- and a yummy looking gazpacho plus a bisque that is awesome. And, they let you have dogs on the patio - bonus!! Heather was a sweetheart and found a water bowl for Big; we were both pleased. The Boy and I will return for dinner soon!

This is one of my favorite spots for great food and atmosphere! The menu has something for everyone and its all delicious. If you get lucky enough to go on a day when they have the homemade carrot cake...it's a must! A perfect date night spot or an any night delicious dinner or lunch. They have anything to suit your cravings! Did I mention...the service was great?! Can't say enough fabulous things about The Brooklyn Cafe!!

This is a really nice neighborhood gem. It's cozy with a nice bar in the middle and surrounding tables on all sides. They also offer patio seating. The artichoke is as good as stated in some of the reviews and the chef makes sure that it's just perfect, not under- or over- cooked. Hubby and I weren't as fond of the short rib entree. It was pulled meat in a light stew sauce rather than a wine sauce; thus, there wasn't much flavor to the meat nor sauce. I would probably never order the short ribs again as I prefer the short ribs at Soho's Restaurant. I look at it this way: If my $9 artichoke was fantastic compared to my so-so $25 short rib entree, I see no point in ordering the more expensive item in the future. However, those looking for a "hearty" entree may enjoy the short rib and it may be your cup of tea. The staff is superb and very attentive. Very good overall first impression of this Cafe.

A great neighborhood restaurant. Don't let the name fool you. This is not a diner. The service is excellent - well trained, genuine, friendly. The food is very good. Highlights include: grilled artichoke, crab cakes and key lime pie. Be sure to make a trip.

I ate here months ago (and never left a review) but have recently found myself comparing this place to every other restaurant I go to as the standard bearer. We came for dinner and the food was fantastic. I had a lobster risotto that knocked my socks off and my wife had a chicken dish. The server was first class. Food was on time and presented well. The seating is a little tight but the ambiance is fun and lively. The owner stopped by our table to chat for a minute. Went to Ray's yesterday and found myself saying how I'd just like to go back to the Brooklyn Cafe for great food and service. Will be back.

My fiancé, his mother and myself came here for his birthday last month. Apparently she loves this place, but I didn't see the hype. We sat at a table right next to the door and it was freezing. The table felt a little cramped, as it didn't have much room between it and the window and table next to us. The service was sort of slow. We got the blue cheese chips appetizer which was yummy. But my main meal brings me to the 2-star rating. I ordered a chicken-something meal and it was not even cooked! After I couple bites I realized there was still some dark pink color to my chicken and quickly realized I was eating raw chicken breast! I immediately lost my appetite and put down my utensils. Luckily, they removed my meal from our bill. My future mother-in-law had made RSVPs on open table and specified it was my fiancé's birthday. But the waitress didn't know that until we told her. Whether this was the café's fault or Open Table's, I don't know, and I don't really care. He did end up with a nice (free) dessert though after we told her. Atlanta is full of swanky, over-priced cafes, I would try something else before coming here.

What a gem this restaurant is for anyone that is lucky to have experienced its great food and never failing great service. We had a chance to return with family (they are from Birmingham, AL) for a family dinner this weekend to celebrate my son's graduation. Brooklyn Cafe continues to be excellent each and every time we get a chance to return. Compliments to the owners, chef and staff for continuing to make it such a great restaurant! Thanks!!

All right, so not quite five stars, but 4.7 rounds up! We had a grad dinner here last week - party of 7, including two kids. When we first arrived, I wondered that it was too uppity for young children, but they actually were very accommodating (plus it helped that the kids behaved themselves for the most part, hahaaa). We enjoyed our meal - shared the artichoke and potato chip appetizer, then between us all, we ordered steak, grilled chicken, shrimp tacos, and the crabcake salad...everything was mighty tasty. To top it off, we had the chocolate lava cake, which was aight, but oh-my-gootniss (yes, you read me right)! The key lime pie was diviiiiiiiiiine! Such creamy limey goodness in a scrum-dilly-umptious crust. We ordered another to go...and took a bite of it before we even left the restaurant. I swear, I'm gonna get a whole pie and bring it home to gobble it up myself next time I'm in town.

Ended up here on a Friday night because I was too lazy to make dinner and was really tired of getting the same old take out from our usual spots. I never usually make reservations in the Sandy Springs area, but my spidey senses were tingling so i called and reserved a table. Lucky thing i did because the lady told me i took the last spot until 10pm. So we ended up getting a 8pm reservation. When we arrived, the place was packed. Our table wasn't ready so we grabbed some seats at the bar and got some drinks. I wasn't too jazzed about their beer selections though. Apparently they have a more serviceable wine list. I downed a couple of beers before realizing that it was well over an hour and our table still wasn't ready. As I was about to stumble over to the hostess, someone escorted us to table right behind where we were sitting. I was a bit peeved that no one even bothered to say sorry or clue me on the time frame....but whatever... Here's a rundown of the food. Lobster Bisque - Quite good really. I'm so used to the slop they serve at Diners that this was a breath of fresh lobster air. It was a bit salty, but full of flavor and even a hint of cognac. Nice..... Strip Steak - This was actually quite nice as well. Well cooked and seasoned. The sides and veggies were kind of generic like an outback steakhouse though. Overall a solid steak. Crab Cakes - Good quality lump crab meat and they didn't try to fool me with fillers. Overall it was a good experience once we sat down. Good quality food and decent service.

Fantastic lunch spot. Somehwat of a hidden gem. Admittedly, I need to try Brooklyn Cafe for dinner. I will follow-up when I do. I won't say much that wasn't previously stated in the prior (positive) reviews. Can't imagine anyone not enjoying this cozy and delicious restaurant. As mentioned, their tomatoes are worth the trip alone. Fresh, ripe and delicious, I too want to know where they procure these suckers year round. Possibly a private garden? I've only tried a few items (Crab Cake salad, shrimp salad, pork tenderloin sandwich) but have been exceedingly delicious. I do want to note that I was surprised to see anyone complain about the service. I've been at least a dozen times and the service was prompt, courteous and consistently above average. Without any hesitation, I strongly recommend Brooklyn Cafe.

Hands down our local favorite. This is a Gem...feels like we are here a few times a week. The food is great, the wine list may not need an app to list them all, but it is an amazing summary of any big steakhouse wine list on Atlanta, and the service is remarkable. It feels like walking into Cheers!

Just delicious. We started with the Point Reyes blue cheese chips. They were so good that we nearly devoured the paper they were presented on. Loved the short ribs, shredded like a tender pot roast and served with big chunks of carrot and mashed potatoes. The panko crusted tomatoes were beyond delicious as accompaniments to the New York Steak, which was grilled perfectly. But please leave room for the white chocolate bread pudding. O-M-G. And to sum up our meal, no waiter could be cuter or more personable than Jack. What a wonderful evening!

So let's not hold lack of egg creams against a great little neighborhood restaurant. ;)

Ehhh... y'all it's no bueno when I come here, have a 2 hour plus dinner and bottle of wine which was paid by my dear Aunt and I still don't have anything of greatness to "write home about".

Another great meal at Brooklyn cafe. If you want to say anything about this place is it has been consistent as far back as I can remember. Even going through ownership changes. You can always count on a New York style Italian bistro meal. The only thing I wish for out of BC is more variety out of the menu and specials. Sometimes I feel I've been looking at the same entrees for 10 years. But if its not broke, don't fix it.....what do I know about running a restaurant besides eating there - nothing

Over the years, I been to Brooklyn Cafe for lunch and dinner. It's a worthy option in the area with indoor and outdoor seating in a small mall area in Sandy Springs. On a recent visit I had dinner with a girl friend while our hubbies took in a sporting event. The grilled artichokes are an appetizer ideal for sharing. A tad greasy but delicious. My friend loved the lobster bisque (her reason for suggesting the resto). While I tucked into the fig and walnut salad. Their fish tacos (I asked them substitute shrimp for fish) were also tasty - I'd get the sauce on the side next time as it overwhelmed the fish/tortilla. Their bar serves up a nice peach martini. The chocolate cake was large but nothing special. The menu includes something for everyone. Parking is easy. Our server was friendly and helpful in working with the chef on the requested substitution. We'll be back.

I had the lobster bisque as an appetizer and crab cake "lump" as the entree. Both were abysmal. I do not consider myself to be a picky eater- if something isn't great I'll still usually finish it anyway simply because I paid for it. I was unable to stomach more than 3 bites of the lobster bisque. It was cold when we got it and to top it off it tasted like something completely different than lobster bisque. The crab cake lump was bland. Didn't end up finishing that either. Total cost ended up being between $15-20 per person. Definitely not worth it.

Brooklyn Cafe is in our regular lunch rotation, with good reason. The food ranges from very good to excellent, and the service is consistently good. I haven't been for dinner in years, so this review is just for lunch. The reuben makes the "excellent" list, as does the steak sandwich, which is a special but they seem to have it fairly regularly. I'm a huge fan of a good steak sandwich, and this one is great - oozing with cheese, onions and peppers. Careful, though - it can be messy! The burger is good (one of my coworkers would put this in the excellent category) and the salads look great but I haven't gotten away from the sandwiches. I'd say my "least favorite" is the fish sandwich, which is still pretty good. I also love the options for sides - most places at lunch seem to have fries or you can get a salad. Here you can also get asparagus or tomatoes with gorgonzola and vinaigrette - I usually go with the tomatoes. Simple, but delicious. About the only real negative I can think of is a personal pet peeve of mine - if you want a straw with your drink, you pretty much always have to ask for it. Straws should just be automatic in my opinion. But if that's the worst I can say, you're good by me!

We had a party of eight and they treated us well. I would give them four stars for service and wine, but less than four for food, which was better than average but not outstanding. As my wife says, we have to try it again to see if it is some place we want to go to again.

Blehhh

Simply one of the best places in Atlanta for dinner--- Great food and drinks with very fair prices. We love this place--

Hands down our local favorite. This is a Gem...feels like we are here a few times a week. The food is great, the wine list may not need an app to list them all, but it is an amazing summary of any big steakhouse wine list on Atlanta, and the service is remarkable. It feels like walking into Cheers!

Blehhh

Hands down our local favorite. This is a Gem...feels like we are here a few times a week. The food is great, the wine list may not need an app to list them all, but it is an amazing summary of any big steakhouse wine list on Atlanta, and the service is remarkable. It feels like walking into Cheers!

So let's not hold lack of egg creams against a great little neighborhood restaurant. ;)
