Second visit in the past week. Brought the family this time. Smoked chicken and Pulled pork were very good . Brisket was awesome. Appitizers of fried green tomatoes and pickles, started the meal off right. Wife loved the banana pudding while my son and I split the warm brownie and ice cream. We'll be back!

This place is AMAZING! The food and the service is consistently good every time we come.

Great and friendly staff! Were very accommodating with kids..great place for a good family meal.

We love the BBQ here. The portion sizes are pretty big and the prices decent. My husband and I usually get brisket sandwiches, fries (spicy & great), and fried okra. The pulled pork is great too. I have gotten the plate of meat and 2 sides...its about $11, but its a lot of frackin' food on a plate!!

Had lunch with the family. Was recommended by a few friends. Ribs and pulled pork were very good. Others had the burger, smoked, and we're very pleased. Only negative is the size of the drink glasses. Super small, but our waitress was a hustler and kept us topped off.

I was torn between 4/5 stars. I went for chopped pork bbq and it was excellent. I think I have found my favorite bbq place. So why 4 and not 5? To be perfect, I need to be completely satisfied. The onion rings were their demise. Over battered and over cooked. Maybe the oil was burnt throwing the flavor off but did not taste of onion ring. The chopped pork plate is a huge portion and you will probably take some home. The staff seemed to be very nice and gave me a tea as I waited for my to-go order to finish. For me, this is a selling point. Service and attitude can make up for a lot (which the bbq needs no help). Having said all this...I did not pull my face out of the plate until it was all devoured. I will be back!

It's overall very good. I got the full rack of ribs that seemed to have a little age on them but no biggie. But I'm still debating if they are worth $24 for a full rack. Tried the fried okra and fried green tomatoes I'm a country boy so it's hard to fool me they are definitely frozen bought but not enough tangy to the green tomatoes well the okra wasn't to my liken

The cashier at Cabella's told us that JD's is the best BBQ joint in the area. I guess that meant that the area doesn't offer good Q. I ordered the 2 meat plate- with 2 sides. The best part of the meal was the cole slaw. I'd be surprised to learn that their fried okra wasn't bought from the local restaurant supplier. The ribs and brisket were both extremely dry and overcooked.

STILL SCRATCHING MY HEAD! Tried J.D.'s for the first time today at the Pigs and Peaches Festival. We tried the sampler of beef, chicken and pork along with an order of ribs, coleslaw, and beans. A red sauce accompanied the order but it did not have a barbeque flavor and was just sweet and puzzling. It reminded me of a blend of tomato sauce with sugar and a dash of hot sauce. There was no depth of flavor or richness that defines barbeque sauce and was clearly an after-thought. The sampler was nice, just the right amount of smoke without being overwhelming. All of the meats were perfectly seasoned and had a nice flavor. The sampler came with a bun, but it wasn't quality and there were no condiments or toppings to fully dress a sandwich so I gave the bun to my husband. The rib plate was interesting. The ribs were nicely smoked but un-sauced and not as tender as I am accustomed to eating. I am accustomed to home-cooked ribs with a generous amount of sauce baked on and the meat falling apart. These were okay, but just different. I prefer a rib that actually has barbeque sauce on it, otherwise it is just a plain smoked rib and that's kind of boring. A dinner roll would have been a nice addition. The sides are what I refer to as "throw aways" because I never order them and just prefer to add my own. The cole slaw only consisted of cabbage and was a bit bland because it was missing the acid. I need my twang. The beans tasted like pork and beans with sugar added. They were just weird and definitely not what I consider "baked beans". This may be traditional Georgia barbeque, I wouldn't know. I just know that this is not quite what I consider barbeque. For me, they were simply smoked meats.

Great place for low key after softball tournament team gathering. Staff was accommodating, food was great (fried pickles with ranch) and Bbq pork sandwich. We had a group of 14 & it was comfortable, the a/c was working and the decor was fun! Definitely will be back!

Been here a couple times, food has always been great. Love the ribs and potato salad. This visit, not so awesome. The baked beans had a TON of garlic in it. It was almost unbearable. I had been craving banana pudding and I was excited to see they had it on the menu @ $4. I got my food to go and didn't check it till I got home and was very upset to see the container was less than half way filled and no vanilla wafers. How can u have banana pudding with no wafers??? Don't think I will be back

I was on a break between my sons tennis tournament matches and we visited the Marietta Square during the "Whole Hawg Happenin' BBQ & Music Fest." My son ordered a rack of ribs with Mac n Cheese and I got the Brisket with slaw and baked beans. I pulled out my credit cars to pay and they weren't set up to take credit cards. I immediately pulled out my business card and ID and promised to send them payment. And they told me not to worry about it and to take it. Wow. I grabbed a business card of theirs and payment is forthcoming. But that wasn't the best part. The food was phenomenal. I had to tell my son to stop eating so much right before his next tennis match and to save it... He wanted to keep going through them. He loved the Mac. My brisket was fantastic. Great food and very gracious folks. Enjoy.

Alright, JD. I've given you many opportunities and countless visits and the last 2 visits have been awful. Cold pulled pork, watery baked beans, hard French fries and oddly moist Texas toast. It's odd for a BBQ place to have, of all things, awesome cole slaw and that's the only reason why I gave 2 stars. The restaurant desperately needs rugs, drapes or stuff on the walls to help with the noisy dining room. I don't need to hear the conversation from the table across the room. I like that they renovated an old church building but the creaky floor and odd cold spots is more like a haunted house. How does the Woodstock location have better food if it's owned by the same guy?
(2)Davis M.
Quick lunch... are the one on Bells Ferry years ago. Awesome BBQ... Fried corn... and tainted (spicey) collards...! Well done JD! Pretty fancy though from the Bells Ferry location that I love!
(4)Jason T.
Someone talked me into coming back here and they've gotten much better... The food was actually decent and the service was much better... I still prefer Zieglers, and probably won't be coming here all that often, BUT I won't make a "vomitting noise" about JD's if someone suggests eating there now... haha
(3)Alex M.
Very good lunch spot. Great pork sandwich, Brunswick stew was different than what I'm used to but it was awesome. I also highly recommend the fried pickles.
(4)Laura N.
The smokey spud with pork is my favorite, it's huge and will make a meal for most people. The rib sandwich is also delicious on white bread. The collards are really flavorful and not too bitter. One of my favorite bbq spots, although the dining room can be loud when it's busy.
(4)Ross H.
Great BBQ and sweet tea, but the sides and bread are lacking. Need more veggies for sides and bread seems like it's straight out of the freezer.

We drive by this place often on our way to the lake with our boat. One afternoon we were starving and decided to stop in. It's a really cute little place (park in the lower lot if you have a boat as the upper lot won't accomodate you). We stood at the hostess stand for quite some time before anyone acknowledged us. I finally walked to the bar right inside the front door and asked if someone could seat us. Despite there being several wait staff walking around and the place not being too terribly full, it looked like one waitress was doing the brunt of the work. She was excellent though and very friendly. The food was good for the price. I actually really liked the smoked wings, they were dry, but I like my wings not slimy and had a different flavor. The fried corn on the cob is something really special. I had no issue with the portions, quality of food or the price at all. I thought we definitely got what we paid for. However, I think the restaurant as a whole could do a better job with service. While our waitress was wonderful, she seemed to be the only staff member we encountered that really cared about her job.
(3)Anissa S.
went for dinner last night. pretty standard fare. Brunswick stew was bland - mostly corn and tomato. chopped chicken was moist but it was nothing more than chopped, roasted chicken covered in barbecue sauce. Fries were lower than meh. Food wasn't bad but was too bland to warrant a special trip to eat here again. I'll stick to Williamson brothers.

We ate here this past Saturday and were really excited to try it based on their Woodstock location's stellar reviews. This location opened up about 2 months ago and I'm hoping our not so great experience is because of their "new-ness". It's an old school then church and now restaurant. The inside has a lot of potential, but is pretty lame, has a lot of unused space, the floors are super duper slippery and it has zero decorations... Just kinda awkwardly empty, depressing. All bright white. So the FOOD... It sounded tasty, but the portions were teeny tiny and the food was ICE COLD! YUCK! Not only was the food bland and the worst BBQ I've ever tasted, but also over priced... My husband and I shared the 3 meat sampler (Brisket, Chopped Chicken & Chopped Pork). All three were gross and I loooove BBQ. We were also really excited to try their BBQ sauces, but they served it with BBQ already on it?! Soooo disappointed! Would have been nice for that to have been mentioned on the menu. So unfortunately I can't comment on their sauces. Their sides were ok. Not much to choose from. Their corn on the cobb is fried and loaded with salt. We didn't care for it. Baked potato was normal. Would be nice if they had mac n cheese and some kid friendly side options like apple sauce. Our daughter, 3 yrs. old, had nothing to choose from... We aren't big complainers that try or want a free meal, so when the server asked how everything was-We told her it was cold and she just said, "sorry". On the way out my husband caught the owner, J.D., on our way out and shook his hand, told him the meal was good, but cold. He asked why we ate it like we were weird for not complaining. In mid conversation a lady, who was clearly a regular, walked up and said her mom was here and he just walked away... So rude!!! Not sure if we'll be back because there are so many other yummy BBQ places around. Maybe we'll try the Woodstock location or come back in a few months to see if they've improved...???

Great BBQ, just not that many healthy sides. Overall good!
(3)Sarah M.
The BBQ chicken was amazing! The best we've ever had. Baked beans, onion rings and sweet tea were so good as well!
(5)Hannah S.
Very good food! We beat the church crowd, which was good, because as we were finishing up they were flooding in. Great service with great timing. Everything we tried was delicious. My only complaint is that I don't believe they have lemonade--what kind of barbecue restaurant doesn't have lemonade! I won't hold it against them for long, though.

My husband and I were really excited to get a new BBQ place in town! We visited the first week that they opened and they were definitely still getting some kinks worked out, which is expected for any new business. We have since been back several times and had really great experiences every time. The food is very good, and the servers are really friendly. I usually get the ribs which are delicious! My favorite side is the fried corn on the cob.. which is different than you may think. It doesn't have breading like other fried foods. I am not sure how they make it but it is awesome! I have also had the standard pork plate which is also very good.
(4)Herman W.
I've been twice. The brisket was pretty good. So is the sauce- good thing, because everything came with lots of it on. The pork is only available chopped on the menu, which is not my preference. It seemed all the cut ends up on the plate as meat and doesn't get used in sides like beans. Speaking of, the beans were spiced with garlic only. Pass. A piece of two of meat in the beans adds lots of flavor, in my opinion. The slaw was flavorful, but had lots of juice. The fries were tasty and well cooked. Did not enjoy the onion rings- batter too thick. I ate every little of the stew. The primary taste was canned corn. Smoke chicken, like all the other meats was tender & had the appropriate smoke appearance, but the taste just really isn't there. Ribs were tender and the meat was easy to get off the bone, but the outside was too hard for me. I hope the food improves, but I'll watch yelp and not go back until the reviews pick up. Love the location, decor, & the service was good.
(3)Kelly D.
Great BBQ. Loved the pork and the brisket. My husband liked the ribs. Good sauce. The brunswick stew was wonderful. The high ceiling in the main dining room makes for a very loud room, but I can overlook that for the great food!
(4)Nic B.
This place is literally across the street... ish. I was naturally excited. I have always ordered to go. My mum and I ordered bbq salads and my dad ordered a chicken meal and a spud. I get home, no dressings, no spud and no extra bbq sauce and no garlic bread, just a slice of bread. I call and tell them. Oh ya... we ran out of spuds, sorry, come back and we will refund you. I was not offered anything just my money back. For the spud. Each time I go in, someone new is being trained. Never the same people. I gave them 3 chances and nothing is ever right, and the last one was the worse. My mum and I both got sick from the bbq salads it didn't taste right so we didn't even eat half of it. Needless to say... we will not be giving this place another shot.
(1)Michael S.
I've eaten here twice and it's ok. It's nothing special. The atmosphere is not great inside the large room and the wait staff could use some customer service training. The BBQ is ok, but it's nothing I'd go out of my way to get. We haven't been back since the last time (4 weeks ago) and probably won't go back. In their location, customer service is a necessity. Right now, they just don't have it.
(2)Mark W.
The food was very good. Our waitress was extremely rude to us. She took our order and we asked for iced tea with lemon. She returned with iced tea and no lemon. When I asked her again for some lemon she told us that they did not have any cut and that she did not have time to cut some. She never returned to our table after that. When she saw that we were finished eating she slapped the check onto our table while running by without a word to us.
(2)James O.
We normally order take-out here maybe once a month and it is always fantastic. We've eaten in the dining room too several times and both food and service have been great. We love the pulled pork sandwiches. The meat is always consistently good and never greasy. Love the okra and onion rings too. Tea good. Really have nothing bad to say about this place. They will continue to be our bar-b-que choice. Only thing that would be nice is if they started offering fried green beans, but hey, they can't offer it all.............
(4)Lura M.
I am not usually out in this neck of the woods, but I was driving down Main St on a sunny Sunday morning and saw that JD's was now serving breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. I was greeted by the pleasant wait staff and given both a breakfast and lunch menu since I arrived a little late in the morning. I chose to get a Bacon Biscuit and an Egg and Cheese Biscuit to go. Ashley was my waitress and she was very friendly and explained the menu options since it was my first visit. I took off with my fresh food to continue my day's journey. This biscuit was farm-fresh like a country grandma would make! Real eggs, real cheese, awesome biscuit!!! I was so excited about it, that I called my Dad to tell him about this place once I had cell service again. Definitely worth stopping by this quite restaurant again!
(4)Tracy M.
BEST BBQ in town..... my hubby loved the ribs, my son ate up the pulled pork.... the pulled chicken is my favorite..... my other son love the old school house and all the different rooms..... We drive from Roswell because this is the best in Georgia.....
(5)Rick R.
Good BBQ. I suggest you take it home as the service is nothing special and it is SO LOUD inside!! The bare walls and high ceilings make the noise from the crowd echo back at you over and over.
(3)David G.
Had this as take out at a party. The brisket was decent. The pork was avoided by all there - it was so dry, no amount of sauce could fix it. There is too much good bbq out there for me to visit this place again. Sorry guys. You have to step it up to compete in this market.
(2)Marie M.
The beef brisket is tender and delicious! The restaurant is in a neat old home or school, so it's really different. Very clean and the employees there were very friendly. Will definitely be back,
(4)Michael B.
Strait up great BBQ Every food here is amazing. Beef, pork, ribs, BRISKET Messed up the orders a little but still great service cause of how nice they were
(5)Adrian T.
I wish they had the same food and menu as their original location in Woodstock which i would give a solid 4 stars. I had the brisket plate, which was too dry. I tried the pulled pork, which was ok but it had weird taste, probably too smokey or the wood used for smoking it was not of good quality. The best part was the side of baked beans and the cold beer!
(2)Jason S.
There really aren't any BBQ places in the Atlanta area that hit it out of the park on all fronts. JD's doesn't either, but they seem to be the best I've found so far. Good BBQ pork, okra, onion rings, fries. Baked beans were overloaded with garlic last time, didn't care for that. I've ordered large containers of pork for entertaining groups at home and that was a huge hit. The building looks cool, but the main dining room is deafeningly loud if it's busy. Sit outside on the deck or go when it's not crowded. I'm giving them 4 stars more because of the lack of competition versus their own performance.
(4)Darryl T.
Not the worst BBQ I have ever had but by far not the best. Very dry. Had to put a lot of sauce to make moist. Found several large pieces of gristle mixed in the meat which I guess is to be expected. Went after the lunch crowd. It wasn't busy and service was so so at best. Brunswick Stew was ok. I ate at the one in woodstock and it was way better. Might try that one again but probably not Acworth.
(2)Ron J.
Absolutely loved this place!!!! We were looking for good BBQ while driving on vacation, we read reviews on JDs BBQ and they were the best we had seen. We tried them out and they lived up to all of the reviews we read. We will stop again next time we r driving by.
(5)Ron H.
I wrote a critical review a while ago and ..... I take it all back. I've been back to JD's several times and the food and service have been second to none. The food quantity is appropriate and filling. The brisket is moist and tasty. The sides and deserts compliment the meals wonderfully. I must have originally caught them on an "off night" but every time I've been back they have never failed to exceed my expectations. I'm so glad I gave them a second chance.
(5)Brian B.
Got brisket plate .. Was extremely dry .. Brunswick stew had more corn than anything and two globs of fat.. Not good for a quarter cup of stew .. Baked beans were ok .. Big glass of t :) but for fourteen dollars I don't think four little slides was worth that ... I think it's back to BBQuties .. Sorry ;(
(2)Rick J.
I really wanted to like JD's. I kept going back, hoping to spark some love. It just hasn't happened. Sigh. I am not going to slap JD's around like a misbehaving stepchild in a K-Mart. My experiences have not been truly "bad." However, they have not been very good either. They ranged from 2-Star ("Meh. I've experienced better") to 3 Star ("A-OK"). We'll average it out to 2.5+ (I guess this would be "Meh--OK"). Here are the pluses: The restaurant is very clean, bright, open, and airy. The servers have been very friendly and cheerful. The menu is complete; it has everything you would expect a good barbecue restaurant to offer. However, the chicken and pork are just "average." The sauces are a problem. JD's offers two: Sweet or Spicy. Neither is particularly noteworthy: I get better sauces from the grocery store. JD's does not offer a mustard sauce. That is a major minus. (Note: I asked for mustard sauce; my server brought me a small cup of yellow mustard. Sigh.) Most of the sides (cole slaw, french fries, garlic toast, etc.) have been average. There is one exception: the corn on the cob. It is fried, and is terrific. I may stop at JD's again. However, there are quite a few good restaurants in Acworth. Unless I am particularly hungry for barbecue, I will probably pass it up.
(3)Vince E.
Cool old building, with a clean airy interior. Wait staff friendly. However, I have been here four times now, and this is my last. Food has been consistently over salted, chicken wings tasted as if stored overnight and barely warm. Absolutely nothing inspirational about the food. Baked beans out of a can, and frozen okra, Sweet tea is way too sweet as there is no tea flavor. Meh is probably an accurate description. Please get your act together as we need a good BBQ place in Ackworth. I will not be back till I see more positive reviews.
(2)Rodney S.
Good food and service. Usually very noisy but it is a family restaurant... They're smoked burger is great!
(4)Travis T.
On our way back to Atlanta from Cartersville, during rush hour traffic, we decided to look for BBQ in Acworth (words I never thought would come out of my fingers). I love BBQ and am disappointed when someone I give my hard earned money totally blows it. That wasn't the case with J.D.'s Bar-B-Que. We found it on the "Around Me" app and it was a fantastic find! The building is cool...looks like it was repurposed and totally updated. Inside, we were immediately greeted with welcomes and friendly smiles. Noticed a great little bar in the front (they probably get a great happy hour). We were seated immediately and the sweet iced tea kept on coming! The BBQ (I had the pork) was AMAZING. The portions were quite generous and if I wasn't going to hurt myself I would have finished my plate, but about 1/4 of it became a mid-night snack! I had the fries--seasoned perfectly, and the coleslaw--simple, but it was so good, it was the first thing I finished on my plate! The friendliness was continuous...I was blown away that they hit it on the mark across the board. I rarely leave the Atlanta city limits just to eat, but you better believe I'll be back to J.D.'s!
(5)Janet B.
I bought a Livingsocial deal to J D's BBQ because I've heard a lot of great things about it. To my dismay, the deal only applied to the new location in Acworth which, at the time of my checking, had a ONE-STAR rating (compared to the 4.5 star rating of th e original location in Woodstock). To be fair, only 2 people had reviewed the place, and they were both early on, like soon after their opening. So, my boyfriend and I decided to just go for it on a late Friday afternoon (we were also very broke and hungry). The place looks more like a pleasant southern brunch place than a cozy BBQ restaurant. There is a full bar separated by a wall from the dining area, simple decorations, and big windows to one side of the dining area. It's pretty loud by the kitchen area because of the structure of the building. For starters, we got jalapeno poppers. The presentation was kind of a joke... 5 pieces of fried jalapenos overstuffed with cream cheese just tossed on a bowl (see the picture please...), served with ranch sauce in to-go cups. There was a piece of hair/eye lash in one of the cups... eek. Drinks came out in cute little fruit jar mugs. We ordered 1/2 slab of baby back ribs each. Contrary to other reviews, the food was hot. The meat fell off the bones pretty easily, but it wasn't so tender that it melted in my mouth. The sauce on the table was pretty good-- tangy and peppery. Each plate came with 2 side dishes, so we tried baked beans, fried corn on the cob, onion rings, and cole slaw. The corn on the cob and cole slaw were not too heavy and a good addition to the plate. The other two and garlic bread were unremarkable. Service was prompt and friendly. We stayed for a while just talking after we finished, and the waitress refiled our drinks and didn't rush us. The prices were not bad, even without the discount. But I'd rather drive somewhere else for DELICIOUS bbq rather than settling here.
(2)Julie A.
BBQ sandwich, sweet tea, and fried pickles were all yummy. Loved the interior decorated with antiques. Will definitely return!
(4)Russ H.
I was completely and utterly disappointed with both the BBQ and Sides items at JD's BBQ in Acworth,GA. The BBQ itself was tasteless and the sauces (both Spicy and Sweet were watery and lacking flavor as well) ... the Baked Beans had an overpowering Garlic taste (you could see the large amount of minced garlic) and the fries were not fresh cut but frozen ... I will say the Brunswick Stew was ok (not the best I have ever had but the best in this area) ... I have heard mixed reviews regarding this place and finally decided to give it a try but the only thing I left with was a feeling that those who indicated they like it have never had good BBQ before.
(1)Suzy S.
This is my favorite bar-b-que place. I always leave satisfied and enjoy my visit. Sat outside recently with my dog and the server brought a bowl of water for her, even refilling it.
(5)Ashley A.
Very cute atmosphere, wonderful wait staff and most importantly great barbecue. We had the fried pickle chips for appetizer and we had the pork plate, beef brisket, fried corn, spicy collard greens, potato salad, baked beans and our daughter had the hot dog and fries. Everything is made in-house and was delicious.
(5)Joe G.
I'm really surprised by some of the reviews...we have had nothing but good experiences at this new JDs. The brisket was fantastic, as was the pork and sides. Staff was very friendly. And for those nit picking the interior, it is by far one of the nicer joints for a bbq place - an old school house, remodeled, clean and open. A very cool place to grab some cue in downtown Acworth.
