Hi, we came back to WInnie's to celebrate our parents' anniversary and WOW, it was even better. Winnie, the owner, and her son are wonderful hosts. From the moment you walk in, you know you are in the hands of top professionals who will make sure you enjoy yourself. Ingredients are fresh and delicious and every dish is bursting with flavor. What a treat. I wish she'd open a restaurant in NYC!!!

I will say no to this one the next time. We have our company meetings here. It's dark.

Winnie's Garden HA! More like Winnie the POO! Because it made me POO all night! Do not eat here!

No bueno. The chicken tasted very cheap and strange. My husband is not a very picky eater but he barely touched his food. Service was great but I can't come back to a restaraunt based on good service only. I need the good to be somewhat decent.

I have been going to Winnie's for nearly twenty years. I really love the place. The food is good, doesn't leave you with a "heavy" feeling, and the people are friendly. I like that the food is good, it is locally owned, and that the atmosphere is enjoyable. Highly recommend.

I will agree with Eric S, the best way to describe the food is "Delicately Seasoned." This isn't a place where your General Tso's (called Angry Chicken) here is swimming in the gold sauce. It's got enough on there for flavour and where you can taste the chicken and hot spices. Everything here is pretty well done, and the food is fresh, which is all I ask from my restaurants. The people who run the place are very nice, and will help you with anything. The menu is simple with some very good offerings. I love the Mongolian beef and the black bean chicken. If there isn't something you want, the kitchen will take it for you. The spicy mustard here is pretty awesome/brutal. Beware of this little bastard. If you want to clear your sinuses, just dunk your spring roll in there and bite down, and enjoy the sensation of feeling like you singed your nose hairs. Inhale deeply and enjoy not having clogged sinuses from the pollen. This place is great because it's not high cuisine, and its not one of the places you find in a strip mall that offers the same Americanized Cantonese crap cooking we find no matter where you go in whatever city. Recommend and happily do so.

I've always enjoyed their food, nice, solid Chinese. Brown rice is offered at no charge.

Using this review to pop my cherry on yelp. I have lived in Orlando for about 6 years and have eaten my way around this town in and out. Fine dining to food trucks and everything in between. I'm a self proclaimed foodie that works in food service. I travel. I eat. Lets get to the goods. Winnie's. Orlando's Chinese food offerings leave much to be desired. Being a Jersey boy I am always looking for good sit down Chinese. After 6 years I have finally found "my spot". This place looks very unsuspecting from the outside, but is very inviting when you enter the door. Tastefully decorated. Clean smelling. I was instantly excited. Greeted by my would be server I was seated quickly at a very comfy booth. The server was very playful and accommodating. I was excited to see shrimp toast on the menu and quickly ordered that as my appetizer. You can rarely find that in Orlando and I LOVE shrimp toast. As I continued to look over the menu I believe the owner came out to let me know that they were out of shrimp toast! While disappointed I was so happy to see the owner at the table and she made a few suggestions. I was heavily swayed to try the house made shrimp egg roll. Let me tell you that I don't think I could have been happier that they were out of shrimp toast. It was amazing. I make egg rolls. Damn good ones. This made me want to give up making egg rolls. As the egg rolls came out I decided on my entree of Spicy Shrimp and Chicken with cashews. They serve brown rice or jasmine rice with their entrees, but I opted for some veggie fried rice. While waiting for my food I was engaged in conversation with my server as well as another gentleman I believed to be related to the owner. Both were very funny and playful throughout my dining experience. When my food arrived there was a slight "delay" between the entree and the rice coming out. Maybe 5 minutes. When the rice came out she said, "don't worry, I'll get you some dessert for the wait". The wait? Really? I was blown away. I thanked her and dug into my meal. The shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly as were the accompanying vegetables. Just the right amount of flavorful and slightly spicy sauce. The veggie fried rice had great flavor and was not oily at all. As I was finishing up they brought me a complimentary dessert. I am not a huge fan of tiramisu, but this one was quite good. It wasn't house made, but very tasty for a frozen dessert. It was a little pricey for "basic" Chinese food, but this place is not doing anything basic. I left excited to return with a warm exit. If you are looking for sit down or take out Chinese food in the Orlando area look no further. Winnie's is knocking food and guest service out of the park.

This was a nice change of pace,... the environment was upscale and the service was fast and friendly. I started with the best sweet and sour soup I have ever tasted. Followed by spicy Shrimp that was very good! The restaurant was inviting and modern. I would definitely hit this place again if I am in the mood for Chinese and in the area.

I really like eating here and I can't say I ever had a bad meal. The food is hot and served quickly, prices tend to be a little higher than normal, but the quality makes up for it. There is plenty of parking in the back, but it can get crowded during rush hours. Nice atmosphere too, good place for a date.

What a find.. I was taken here on a date and I was more than impressed. Winnie the owner is an absolute sweetheart although a tough fortune cookie at the same time. She prides herself on fresh home cooked Chinese food and that is exactly what I was served. The velvet egg drop soup is an absolute must I could eat it until I burst and you get a very generous serving of it. The shrimp toast isn't the same as I used to get in England but is the best I have tasted this side of the pond. I love her crab rangoons they are also a dish I can never pass up. When there I asked the young guy serving us (who I believe is her son) what he would recommend I try, without hesitation he went straight got the lamb and scallions. OMG sex in the mouth it was so good my date ordered some to go for a later snack. Delicious doesn't come close to describing this dish the lamb is cooked perfectly with a generous coating of the sauce (of which I'm not sure what it is) but its phenomenal and the scallions are a great addition to the plate. It comes with a side of rice which completes the meal to total satisfaction. I have been back a couple of times since and find myself craving the lamb multiple times until I manage to get my next fix which I'm actually over due. This place is a win win in my books the best Chinese I've found in Orlando. Watch out for the mustard sauce that comes with the complimentary wontons its a lovable bastard that kicks your senses into high speed but keeps you coming back for more.

I have to agree with most folks that this is just mediocre Chinese Food and for the price we paid I can't give it more than 3 stars. Food was pretty good but portions were 1/2 of what I get for the same price in Atlanta. Two of us spent $50 with tip for 2 entrees fried rice, an appetizer, a spring roll, and some not so tasty won ton soup!

Winnie's = YUM! I love being greeted by Winnie and Nick when I walk in the door.Ask Winnie for her recommendation when you order. I have eaten my way around her menu and recommend that you try the spicy eggplant or beef with scallions. Both are full of flavor and the right amount of heat.

This is ,without doubt, the best Chinese cuisine in the Orlando area. The quiet calm ambience of the restaurant adds to the good food and pleasant atmosphere. This is not ordinary Chinese food, it is a step up , maybe two or three steps up. The salt and pepper shrimp are unique and tasty as is the carmelized macadamia nut with shrimp appetizer. Winnie does the best Beef Chow Fun you will find . Rarely do you see this on a menu and Winnie's is excellent. Serving crisp Asian pears as dessert beats the ordinary you find in most Chinese restaurants. This is a family operation with a loyal lunchtime business clientele, same faces many days a week from the area which says a lot about how people enjoy this restaurant. Very likely you will meet and talk with Winnie herself, she is a visible presence and an excellent host. If you want to have a great meal in a lovely environment try Winnie's in Winter Park; you won't be sorry.

Best Chinese I've had in years. Friendly staff and great food. Not your typical Chinese. This place is a cut above the rest. Thanks for a great meal Winnie!

Not certain what is happening at this restaurant...The krab ragoon was like a hockey puck...I ordered beef and mushroom with oyster sauce....I received beef over green beans...no mushrooms....One of my dining companions ordered beef and aspargus, to be told that there is no asparagus.... This restaurant has gone down hill!

Wow, I was amazed to see these bad reviews. I've been coming to Winnie's for over ten years and think it is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have eaten at anywhere (including cities like SF and NYC). I make a point of stopping in here every time I am in town. To be sure, this place is not high cuisine (it doesn't pretend to be) but it is worlds apart from the white take-out box slime that most people think of when they consider ordering "Chinese." It fits in a middle ground (a nice kitsch-free, non-divey, atmosphere with food taken seriously by those cooking and serving it) that is so difficult to find with Chinese food. The ingredients are fresh, the food is carefully prepared (never, in my experience, in advance of ordering), and the presentation is always very nice. Some reviewers are complaining that the food is bland. I think a better way to put it would be to say that it is delicately seasoned. That's good; the flavors are delicious, and you can taste the ingredients without being blasted by some monolithic over-the-top spice treatment. Most importantly, the food is never greasy.

This place had the WORST hot and sour soup I have ever eaten. It was not hot. In fact, it had a sweet taste so I added hot mustard to choke it down. Their food is bland, but they have a clientele that is regular. It is a family business and perhaps my tastes are not what they cater too. I like spicy food when they say on the menu it is spicy, and this is NOT the place to eat it.

Great clean modern Chinese. Light and also flavorful.

I disliked everything we ordered. It was bland, over-priced and not fresh at all. I wouldnt recommend this place.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
