First of all, the piano entertainment is fun and the bartenders are real gentlemen. Fair drink prices. Haven't tried the food yet. There is a mature crowd here and that is also great. It is a bit cliquish which is surprising for adult men. As an out of towner, I notice the locals gravitate towards each other. I see a few mature gentlemen with their mail-order very young brides. To each their own.

This is a full Jazz band it was very energetic and amusing. I had the penne vodka which was startling and my boyfriend had the steak skewers which he was were tender and, It was very romantic place to visit for a couple like us. We took 10 minutes deciding how to sit because they couldn't get us all at one table. Bob, the Piano Bar & Restaurant was very gracious and mastery.

Service speed was right on point.Portions were a good size for one person. Cannolis, Mousse Cake, Cappuccinos were delicious,Chicken delicious was pretty enjoyable and surely someone you can never duplicate! Food Entree quality was GOOD but not GREAT or MIND BLOWING.The stuff that can be better. Food presentation was so bland. It was as if i cooked at home and put the food on a dish all plain and simple. The appearance didn't blow me away. But again, the food was between average and above average.

I found Howl at the Moon to be exactly what I expected when it came to a dueling piano bar. We took guests to this restaurant last night and all of us thought the food was good. The drink are so strong. Friendly environment with fantastic customer service.I have to say, the undergo was fantastic. I had great time and will be back again.

Skip this place. We're only in Fort Lauderdale for two days and this place was highly recommended. Wrong- and I don't care a bit if it was 2-4-1 or not. The fried chicken-23.00- sucked. Very dry and lousy My husband had chicken over pasta-25.00 and. Was uneatable. The waiter was going to discuss the food with somebody but just brought the check with a 18% tip added This wasn't the way we were hoping to spend one of our two nights in Fort Lauderdale !!!

The great thing about this is place is its 2-4-1 drinks always! The crowd is much older in age, geriatric. Good food, I like their burgers.

The service here is always exceptional. The new owners are manager seem very friendly. Bartenders remember your drinks, and the wait staff are always attentive. The food was good as well. I enjoyed the grouper salad and the grilled chicken philly. Saturday nights probably has the best entertainment. Although our friends do miss the pool tables / tournaments they used to have in the back room. This would help draw more patrons on slower nights. A little something for everyone in case people were not into the live performances.

I always have a wonderful meal. The atmosphere is old world in all the best ways, the staff are precise in everything they do, It tasted fresh and had a lot of seafood.I found Howl at the Moon to be exactly what I expected when it came to a dueling piano bar. Such a good place. The food is always right, the drinks are strong, and most of the staff, are amazing.

A step back in time with Golden Girls decor, this old-fashioned establishment with a primarily old-fashioned clientele offers mediocre to decent dishes (based on the reviews of our party of five). The menu was simple, but something for everyone. Our waiter and our host were very friendly and accommodating, and the piano bar in the next room added to the warm and convivial atmosphere. The bar was packed: 2-for-1 drinks at the bar all night, but once seated, the waiter will be happy to bring your second drink to you.

Did the Wednesday prime rib special.Pretty good overall, but mine was a little too "marbled".Good flavor, though.Great smashed potatoes and steamed veggies.Rolls were tough-nothing special. A fun atmosphere and nice server-Paulo.Very friendly and attentive. We asked about the 2 for 1 dinners, and he brought a menu when we asked it they dod the regular one.No great deal on that-overpriced entrees at 2 for 1 = normal prices elsewhere.

Love me some Tropics. A great place to hang with the "seasoned locals". Everyone is nice and in celebration of being alive. I love a place where you can order an Old Fashioned and get a smile and a nod and it will be served perfectly. The menu is continental, and the happy hour is actually happy without attitude. When I move down here next year, I will be a regular - I'm just warning all the boys now!

I'll make this short and sweet; we are new to Tropics. Thankfully, friends in Wilton Manors introduced us to Tropics and we'll become "regulars". The 2-4-1 dinners on Tuesday and Thursday can't be beat - and not just for the price. For just good American food - Tropics is just right. Their meatloaf is juicy, so flavorful and is served with a vegetable of the day and a big mound of redskin mashed potatoes. The meatloaf has an excellent mushroom gravy/jus that's not the often-found very thick gravy. What a great place. We love the booths in the more private portion to the far right as you enter - but the area around the 2 bars is also fine. I also love that this is a neighborhood place with a full bar & excellent choices for liquor. We parked on the street but there's a lot across the street. I know there's piano music and possibly a singer, maybe on weekends, but we've only tried weeknights so far. Tropics gets our vote!!

So, after a long time, we tried Tropics again, as an old friend wanted to try it, because he heard of it from someone in his building. We were party of 3. We asked to split the check, one for our friend, and one for us (a married couple). They won't do this. Every single other place does this, happily, with no problems. the server said he would do it at the end, but did not. What a pain. It being Wednesday, my husband got prime rib, our friend got prime rib, and I got the burger. I am told the prime rib was cold. My friend said his prime rib was over done, compared to how he ordered it. My husband ordered an appetizer as well, but afterwards, reported he was still hungry. The "specials" are kind of like "kids meals" sizes. With my burger, for my side, I asked for the fruit cup. It was teensy tiny. They did not have any gravy to put on the mashed potatoes that my husband had ordered. Our water glasses sat empty much of the time. So, I see nothing has changed much. You still overpay for small portions, of mediocre and incorrect food, and inadequate service.
Just had drinks very friendly bartenders. We had a nice time. Good drinks it was very busy too.

We had dinner on December 30th during the two for one night. There was a total of four of us. The food was very good and our server was wonderful even bringing over a slice of birthday cake for a member of our party. I had the chicken and the others had the fish. We started with a couple of appetizers and cocktails. Some issues that I found surprising were, we attempted to make reservations for 7:30 pm. We called at about 2:30 pm and the person who answered the phone said to call back after 3 pm when the host arrives. We called back again at 3 pm and attempted to make reservations for 7:30 pm. The person who answered the phone sighed and said, tonight is very busy. We asked again if we could make reservations and he said yes. We arrived at about 7:25 pm and went to the host stand and said that we had reservations for 7:30 pm. The host who was an older man with glasses and just appeared very unhappy said, your table isn't ready, you will have to wait. We should have walked out based on his nasty indifferent welcome. Maybe hire a host who knows how to greet customers with a smile ?? Horrible first and second impression from this angry old man you call a host. The other item is that the two for one night is really a " we mark it up to mark it down night ". Cobb salad for $27.00 ? Meatloaf for $22.00 ? Chicken for $26.00 ? You get the idea. They basically double the price and call it two for one. Let's be serious, you can get a Cobb Salad at a place like Capital Grille for less than $27.00. This place attracts an older gay clientele who I guess put up with the angry host and the inflated prices. Overall I'd rate the food quality and the server we had a four. I'd rate the host and pricing a one.

Good strong drink at good prices, its a nice place to sit out on the patio to watch the world go by with a good drink in hand. If you feel like dinner or a snack then food is also served.

Found this place on Yelp. Made reservations and basically have a nice time. We entered through the wrong door into the bar. Not what we expected. but we were guided to the right area. This place is huge and was packed with Friday night July 4th holiday people. There was singer and combo. I liked the style of music, show tunes, Gershwin, Cole Porter and the like. However, the vocalist wasn't first rate. None the less acceptable. The dinning room was well appointed with subdued lighting Disney romanesque motif. The waiter was very efficient, knew the menu and made good suggestions. I like it when you're not steered toward the specials or the higher end of the menu. I had grouper casserole with a vegetable mix of broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Lightly seasoned and perfectly steamed. The main course was a huge grouper fillet atop an medley of shrimp, sea scollops and crab. It all blended in deliciously. The manager or floor person checked on our progress and satisfaction level throughout the meal without being intrusive. My partner had roasted duck. No complaints. I skipped dessert, though they looked tempting passing by the table.

I received a nice message from the new owner of Tropics. Craig no longer works there. I also assume that nasty behavior there is no longer tolerated. In fact, after the most recent change of ownership, friends of mine who still go to Tropics have told me it is much better than it used to be.

I wrote a previous brunch review and came back for my 5th or 6th time. I called out to work in Miami and wish I had not. No improvement here at all. In fact, it went way downhill? Three egg dishes on buffet : Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, sunny side eggs with also the Omelette bar.... And also an egg based quiche!? Thats five egg dishes..... Total overkill ! Bartender seemed distracted today or upset?. Everyone is entitled to a bad day! I had to call him to corner of bar to get setup to eat and it was kinda empty? I STILL wasn't offered coffee and I'm STILL not sure it's included. Did you not see me standing here for 5 minutes... The place is empty! Not one single word of conversation or a how are u? This is a first? I've been here 6 times and with a guest visiting once and eat in the same spot and you saw me at Alibi the other day and said hello? Cat got your tongue? Wake up on wrong side of the mattress? Lol! :-( Today, cold scrambled eggs. Cold sausages, greasy, greasy, greasy oil filled bacon in container? (C'mon!? ) Paper towel and drain the stuff before it goes in container!! Cold stuffed shells with no sauce and the only other option was seafood pasta and beef stroganoff, can you say pasta 3 times? Pasta?? Pasta??!! Pasta??!!@@ I found a parking spot out back and came at 1 pm ~ latest time ever. Took a moment to try to understand the place again so I wasn't just being a mean bitch...And...... All paintings of flowers along back wall towards rear entrance hallway unlighted?? Low level pink lighting hiding the 20 people I'm counting here at 2:35 pm. And my last note is this... It's totally unacceptable to put out a brown dish of discolored peel and eat shrimp with legs attached on Sunday brunch or at anytime. It's rude and its disgusting and disrespectful. Peel your shrimp please! Omelette cook who was not the same from previous times this guy was"super friendly", kinda hot. Could be "packing"! (Do you go to the Ramrod?) He was at the bar chatting and talking about how he's been working over 70 hours without being compensated ( chatty kathy! ) and how they keep getting kitchen help from DES (unemployment) that never stay. I told him owners need to compensate you for your time over 40 hours and he says that owners don't pay overtime because he is salaried?! I asked bartender if I could take the two cookies and brownies on my plate to go and he said no.... When I should have been asking the Omelette cook if I could take him to go! Ok guys....I confess...I stuck the two brownies and two small cookies in my pocket for the Westie Dog at home. Hey?! Why is this place so dark?! Huge sliced chunks of plum tomatoes put in my omelette? I think the tomatoes were still cold while eating...And no extra items, feta, jack, goat cheese, olives, roasted peppers, avocado, salsa, or anything extra for omelette bar? Owners sent me feedback....but did nothing? Did they speak to bartender because he said nothing to me during my 1.5 hr stay today? He's always friendly? Tipped 20% when I wanted to tip 10%. It appears a chair might be removed in row as it wasn't crowded? Rain maybe? Or less people at bar today. Get it together here. I wont be back soon. See u maybe next year!? :-(. Trying to pickup my shift at work. :-(. Big mistake today and waste of $24 plus $1 tipped for omelette bar makes $25. Sorry to new owners... No improvement here. Way too much money for this to go in here. Do you have a comp or coupon for me for a next visit otherwise I'm gone. You can compensate me by setting me up on a blind date with the leathery omelette chef! He can flip me around anytime! Let's call him Daddy O.!

Horrible food and distant waiter, but I guess you can be inattentive when they automatically add 18% gratuity. 2-4-1s drinks area only at bar, not for dinner. Wanted to try this place for the octogenarian crowd it attracts but honestly this place should be ashamed of the quality food they serve our seniors.

We came here with friends to sit and listen to the music at piano bar and eat. The Stuffed Tomato with pasta and mushroom was delioucus, the Beef Steak Tomato was in the center of the dish with with pesto sauce on one side and Tomato sauce on the other. My Tropic Burger was good and nothing to complain about. The place is large inside with booths and tables and with a large bar. It is a fun place with entertainment ( but not sure what nights they offer entertainment). All and all, this is a place that you must visit if you like a Stuffed Tomato dish with entertainment.

New owners have certainly turned this place around It had really gone down hill to the point of sad. I must say food, staff attitude have really improved My negative comment is the 2 4 1 dinners. No real deal....... meatloaf $22.00?????,BLT $$16.00,,etc. Take 1/2 off and the price is normal. Don't inflate the prices to try and make your customers feel they are getting a real value It's kind of a Bait and Switch. Please understand, you have done a great job bringing the place back but give a TRUE 2 4 1 to create a true special.

Met a large group of friends for dinner, some of whom had just come in from out of town. The experience was ok, not great and not horrible. Nicely decorated bar, dancefloor and resturant covering several rooms. Crowded on a wednesday evening. Service was very slow and rather hit and miss. It took about an hour to be served. In the time between ordering and getting dinner we weren't given much attention. Dinner was good, most of us had the prime rib special which was served with potatoes and other vegetables. The portions were large and the steak served as ordered with a light horseradish sauce. Dinner and a couple drinks came to $35.00 each. The place had a distnctive and rather unpleasant odor.... not sure what that was. Someone should give the place a good cleaning inluding the black mold on the overhead a/c vents. Good thing they keep it dark. Thank you for your response! Will try again in a few months....

I didnt like it very much. Our waiter was good.He sounded like Dr.Phil.Very attentive. We did the the 2 4 1.It was very expensive. I had the fish and chips.Heavy, greasy and didnt taste homemade. Partner had a salad.Way overpriced. 27.00 for 3.00 worth of ingredients. Dont know why it was so crowded.

A very nice place. Yes, it does seem to attract an older crowd of men which is fine with me. I dined there on Halloween night and was surprised that it was two-for-one dinners. Oh boy! I had the Eggplant Parmesan, probably the best I've ever eaten. My partner had the Pork Loin Dinner. The server, Martin, was excellent. I will be back.

Brunch at Tropics seems to be a de rigueur experience for the GLBT visitor to Fort Lauderdale, second only to George's Alibi. We went there for Sunday Brunch and were not disappointed. We wished we could have been seated in the al fresco veranda. But the weather didn't cooperate and a steady drizzle spoiled our wishes. So we sat inside near the brunch setup. Tropics has an extensive brunch setup which is so large that it has to be distributed throughout different parts of the restaurant. Near the front entrance is the "lunch" setup with salmon, roast beef, turkey, ham and vegetables. In the middle, taking almost half the bar, is the dessert center, and on the other side of the bar, several tables offer an extensive selection of quiche, eggs, potatoes and different breakfast meats. The inside of the restaurant, though dated, reminds the guest of a pre-Prohibition speak-easy, with faux classical columns imposed over faux stones for an eclectic decor. The price of the buffet included coupons for two mimosas a piece, which were generous on the champagne. Our waiter was a friendly young veterinary intern who also gave us tips about the area. We got there early, about 1030, and the clientele was definitely older, including some patrons who even had to be assisted. I was impressed when one of them, an obviously frail elder gentleman, fell, spilling his food, and the staff was so totally accommodating to him that after an immediate cleanup, the manager himself got the food for him. As the time went on, the clientele got younger, obviously the bar population waking up for brunch. The total check for two including tip came out to $45.00 Overall, a friendly, accommodating, and obviously, well attended place. No attitude and good food. We will be back.

Hello, My name is Lorenzo Andrade.First I'd like to compliment you.I'm inpresed by Tropics "face lift".It's like a breath of fresh air.I've been a patron of Tropics for several years. My friend and I regularly have dinner on Sat Evenings regularly. The proprietors gracefuly, welcomed us twice. That is a good thing!!We enjoy the delicious meals on your menu.We both enjoyed your Veal Parmagean. But it is only available with your house especials. I can be found, every Sat Evening by the Piano Bar dancing.Gloria and Tony are very good performers. The very first time Gloria spotted me dancing.sHE gave me a very inspiring compliment.I danceD to most of her songs.. Last Sat Evening for the first time(at Tropics)I danced for the audience. The reaction was very positive. There's a song Gloria and I love to perform. It's Liberace's "I'll be seeing you"It's a powerful song.Because people loved it.I'll make it my signature song at your establishment..I'll dance to it,and others, every Sat nights I'm a dancer. My genre is eclectic in nature.I perform Dance Interpretations. It's my self-expression.tovarious genres. It's about merging, meaneful lyrics andchoreography, via my heart and graceful movements.I hope to hear from you Dancing is my Passio.I get great gratification when I entertain! I'd love to possibly, perform(with my own arrangements). When Gloria and Tony take brakes. At this time there's just background music provided.Perhaps. me dancing'll keep people inside enjoying the rest of the evening. If you are in need of additional entertainment..Please,I can be available on differents nights as well. Thank you, Lorenzo Andrade

Have you thought of maybe a mobile bar, just for those times you know it will be crowded. I am sure this is no surprise to you , many of the regulars have voiced their displeasure to me. After All, I would think ...this is where you make your money. My partner is a retired bar owner and manager and he says it makes no sense and he refuses to step in there. Most of the time on the weekend he defers to meet friends elsewhere

Hmmm... based on the review, it looks like you'll either love it or hate it! LOL. I'm falling into the 'love it' category. Went for the first time on Christmas Eve with some friends. The place was PACKED and very festive. I ordered the blackened salmon ($19) which was by the far one of the best pieces of fish I've had in Florida. Perfectly cooked, and the sauce that it came with was amazing. Was the crowd a little on the older side? Sure. A little loud? Yup. But honey, don't hate the queens. You wouldn't have a gay leg to stand on if it weren't for them.
The calamari was overcooked and tasted like the oil used to fry in hadn't been changed. We also had the stuffed mushrooms which were dry. Still decided to try the dining room for dinner. Started with hard rolls (microwave heated so they turned hard fast). My guest thought his entree was not fresh and had been reheated. My entree was salmon which is hard to miss up but on a scale of 1-10, it was a 5. I found the mashed potatoes to be acceptable but the vegetable medley consisted of cauliflower and carrots which I found to be a strange combination. Mostly seniors eat there and the menu has burgers, sandwiches, etc. = all unhealthy choices. By retirement age, people are watching what they eat due to diabetes, heart disease, etc. so a light fare menu with options light brown rice would be the right type of menu.

Truly one of the best dinners I've had! Surf & Turf Filet just fell apart is was so tender, the lobster tail was the perfect firmness and amazing flavor, husbands Prime Rib had very little fat and just melted in your mouth!!! Prices are very suitable as well, this is a must try and will return! And by the way "service" definitely top notch!
New ownership made the difference.I am coming back in again. Love how they redid the menu. Back to the basic's with a twist. Staff looks happier. I wish the new owners much success.

Went to Tropics for the 1st time.I had there Stuffed Chicken.Omg I must say I was blown away it was stuffed withy Proccutio, spinach, cheese and topped with a rich Mornay sauce.Wow was wonderful served with Mashed Potatoes and veggies. One thing I was not impressed abt was the veggies were cold and hard I like my veggies with a crunch but these were still raw other then that Chix was To die for:)Will for sure be back:)

stay away from their specials! the pot roast and the traditional dishes are just ok. especially on the 2 for one nights the food and the service goes downhill. this restaurant was good when the new owners took over but now its really not good. what a shame for such a nice place!

Me and my partner just arrived in town and we immediately went to our favorite place which is Tropics. We both ordered unsweetened tea with sweetener, but no sweetener came so we asked again. The waitress said you ordered unsweetened tea. We said we add our own sweetener. I couldn't understand why I had to argue or explain why I wanted sweetener for my tea. Should it automatically come out with unsweetened tea? I love Tropics and their food but I hate confrontation. My first course was a Tropics salad which comes with blue cheese crumbles. So I also ordered blue cheese dressing. The salad came with no blue cheese crumbles but I did not dare ask the waitress why. But they certainly charged me $1 for blue cheese dressing without even alerting me of this when I ordered. We got of burgers, which were great....one of the best we have had. While eating, another waiter came to our table and asked how my iced tea was and then started laughing that I may my unsweetened tea sweet tea. Frist of all, I did not use sugar, but a sugar substitute. Second, why would another waiter come to our table joking about my tea? We all of the waiters laughing at us in the kitchen? What is so weird about ordering unsweet tea and adding a sugar substitute? I am guessing I am not the one with the issues. Overall I still recommend their food, but maybe a meeting with the waiters on service dos and don't is in order. We will continue to dine at Tropics, but I think I will order a diet coke next time so not to create so much confusion since tea seems to be an issue with the waiters.

Nothing special about this local establishment that's been in Wicked Manors for about a hundred years, which would match up closely with the media age of most patrons. The menu has several items on it, and nightly specials are also available. In my first visit there, I had the Grouper special. It was poached and served with a sauce which included some julianned peppers, mixed vegetables and a choice of baked potato or rice. It's hard to ruin fish when it's poached and that's probably why it's prepared that way. All of the diners in our group reported their meals were satisfactory. My only complaint was our server, a delightful man, reported the credit card terminal was not working that evening and in order to use a credit card, they would require a telephone number and a drivers license. Now, no one in their right mind would ever hand over both those pieces of critical information to people in a restaurant where they can be exchanged numerous times. You are just asking for someone to steal your identity. I told our server it was lucky that I had enough cash on me to pay or I would have just got up and walked out. So, ask before going in this place.

Best liver and onions that I have had here. The place is very mellow. The place is like shady pines for gay men. Our server was great. Definitely had a Wilton Manor vibe. But everyone was 40 plus.

2 for 1 drink specials every night - even weekends. Great food specials weekdays, including 2 for 1 entrees. Can't beat it! So it caters to the elderly crowd (I'm in my 30's and everyone is twice my age) but who cares?

This place has extremely overpriced food. They also have a plate charge which I found incredible. I can see why there was only one other table of diners in the dimly lit and depressing restaurant. We paid for our drinks and left without trying the food and for that I am thankful. I will never step foot in this dump again!

I am a Snowbird and Tropics is my favorite place. It's like Cheers ,where everyone knows your name. Whether I am there alone, or with friends I always feel welcomed. The service is friendly and attentive. Frankie the Bartender is a Bartender extrodinaire! He is the epitome of what a Bartender should be; Friendly, Attentive,Personable , and it doesn't hurt that he's cute!!. Whether you are a Regular, or a first Timer, Frankie makes you feel like you belong! I cannot wait to get back there in a few days!!! I often like to Barhop, however when I'm in Wilton Maniors I like to sit on my Perch at Tropics!!!!

My partner and I went for the Sunday Brunch last Sunday and was pleased as we could be on how good the food was. It was by FAR the best brunch we've been to since moving here a year ago. For the price ($17.00)....you can't go wrong............so many choices of breakfast foods not to mention regular stapes found on a hot buffet line........plus a great salad bar and multiple multiple desserts. You also get either a Mermosa, Bloody Mary or a Screwdriver along with the price of your brunch. I'm not a fan of Horseradish in my B.M.'s so I'll skip that and just get the Mermosa the next time. There is another Breakfast Buffet not too far away (at Portia's) and it was awful and more expensive.......can't even hold a candle or get near the quality and quantity of Tropics food. Next time you're looking for a decent and delicious breakust buffet.......head to Tropics.......don't waste your money on the overpriced competition.

I'm a vegitarian and I looked over the menu there was almost nothing at all that I could eat. I informed the server as such and he offered us one of their dinner options (lunch was still being served at that time; dinner was still a few hours away). It was a penne pasta with alfredo sauce and veggies. A simple standard amongst us vegitarians. However it was the best! I've ate tons of alfedo noodle dishes in my life but this felt like home. Just yummy! OMG $2 bloody mary's. I had two and had a pretty damn good buzz when I left. My gf got a rum punch. It was sweet but not syrupy and strong. This place knows how to make good drinks and cheap.

I live in the Fort Lauderdale area, and all in all, this place is great! I usually have the prime rib special on Wednesday evenings, which currently is 10.95, and a bargain! The drinks, which are huge and strong, are 2 4 1 until 9 pm....do know, that you MUST order drinks from the bar, not the waiter to get them 2 4 1, either way.....a very reasonable evening. As far as the crowd goes....this is a gay oriented restaurant, in the heart of Wilton Manors, of course, there are ALL types of people..what is the deal with a more mature crowd? To talk about how someone looks, or the color of their hair, I really dont understand how that affects the taste of the food....perhaps some people are a bit limited in the acceptance of ALL people....Anyway, go to Tropics, and enjoy!

For the value, I think it was pretty good. Appetizers: Brie was a decent choice. Savory and a good value. Crab Cakes. Good rendition. Entrees: Meatloaf a bit sweet but a good choice. Vegetables decent. Mashed Potatoes were quite good. Grouper: Very delicate. Perfect cooked. Rice done well. Over all very good for the price point. Service was ok. They add gratuity to bill which is unusual for just two people. I'd go again on a Tuesday. Felt good to be the youngest people within a cannon shot!

I have been a resident of Wilton Manors and a customer for over 7 years. Tropics has a New owner who has made a vast improvement with the food, and has remodeled the inside and outside. The place has always been nice, but the former owners had slipped in the areas of the food, as well as the interior was dated. All of that has changed, the place now looks and feels like a nightclub. The bar and wait staff has always been friendly and competent. We ate there several times in the past 2 weeks, and the food was tip top, vegatables cooked properly al dente, and the entrees prepared well. We have also had the food at the main bar, and you can order either off of a bar menu, which is reasonable, or, the main menu, and the staff serves the food first class, complete with a white bar table cloth, and linens. Several of the our friends have had a great brunch experience on Sunday. The entertainment is live, and the piano bar was remodeled, and was moved from an awkward location in a doorway between rooms, to a nice corner location in the room between the main bar, and the patio, with plenty of seating. The entertainers are first class, and regulars Tony & Gloria play there on the weekends. Drink and food prices are reasonable. Valet parking is available. In my opinion, this is one of the nicer places, if not the nicest, on Wilton Drive.

Everyone on Yelp who gave this decrepit catering hall a good review owes me for the dinner I endured here. There was nothing fresh in this overpriced, over decorated gastrointestinal mausoleum-- not the food, not the Golden Girls Gone Wild decor and certainly not the bejeweled and bejowled clientele. I had something misnomered as "pasta primavera"-- fettucini, Chef Boyardee sauce and frozen mixed vegetables fresh out of the steaming tray. You could eat better and have more entertaining company crashing a wake at the VFW hall.

The food last night was not as good as it used to be, had lamb shanks was dry and tasteless my partner had pot roast and it was very salty, they are on the way out in my opinion

Amazing! Went on a 2-for-1 night, and it was a blast. There were about 150-200 gay men over 40 singing along to show tunes, drinking, and eating dinner. The food was amazing. Had the seafood chowder and chicken curry. Both were great. Definitely recommended.

We love going here on Sundays for the brunch. Huge assortment of breakfast items as well as a carving station and hot dishes, salads, desserts, etc. The price is great, $16.99 for brunch and two cocktails. We've never had a bad meal here.

Tropics, on the Southern end of Wilton Manors, is a mainstay in the Ft.Lauderdale area. The food is tasty and well prepared, though it sometimes struggles to match the flavor of the former Chardees (once located across the street.) Tropics, like Chardees once did, caters to a more "mature" crowd, but those of us in the younger set would be well advised to give it a try. Reservations are recommended. If you show up on a weekend night without a reservation, expect a little un-due attitude from the front end host. A full service bar (with pretty darn good bartenders) rounds off the experience. Groups of men can often be found singing at the piano to cheesy remakes of pop-hits by Madonna and the like. Depending on your taste, this will inspire you or totally turn you off. Something to be aware of: Tropics sometimes has issues in maintaining a clean bathroom during the dinner hours. After a busy rush, the bathrooms become a bit "nasty". Granted, guests often have issues in picking up after themselves, bowever, cleanliness of a restaurant overall is often based on the cleanliness of it's bathrooms. I may behoov Tropics to look into doing a "pre-dinner touch-up" just to avoid turning off their more loyal patrons. Food: A- Price: A - Service: A to B+ (can be slow at times) Atmosphere: B (an updated, slightly overdone decor with faux concrete treatments everywhere...bathroom cleanliness in question ) Location: A (2.3 miles from downtown Ft. Lauderdale) Valet parking: Not available, and parking can sometimes be an issue later at night. Overall: A-

The food here is very good. What keeps me coming back are the wonderful bartenders and the friendly clientele. Decently priced drinks and great tasting. Ever in the area? Well this is a definite must!!

Never, Ever Again. Rudeness begins with the host and continues with the waiter. I was seated in a booth with vinyl bench that was torn on the seat - all it lacked was duct tape to cover the hole. The waiter wanted my order without asking first if I would like something from the bar - which I heard other waiters start with. The bar had no single malt scotches - "It's pretty basic here, " the waiter said. He said he'd check if they had any single malts, but he never reported back. The bread was two hamburger buns. I had to request butter. I was not offered pepper with the caesar salad, which I saw others get. The Black Angus strip was a terrible cut and full of tendons. The vegetable was carrots and green beans overcooked to mush. Throughout the evening the waiter constantly called me sweetheart and honey - something I'd expect at a diner, and the food would probably be a lot better at the diner.

As comfortable as comfortable gets. Good food, a recently updated menu, The food is constantly fine and the costs are very reasonable. With the food, the costs and the entertainment, you can't lose. Excellent place for a date or even just a casual dinner. Very good service and their activities really fantastic. Highly recommend.

I'm giving this site five stars because it get better than a 3.5 average review that I see... In reality, I would give it a 5 star ... This place was really good! The stuffed bullet were good, Sidewalk view table was fun. LIVE piano player adds to the ambiance. Thanks to Tropics Piano Bar & Restaurant for good service!!! I loveeeee Mimi's, Tropics Piano Bar & Restaurant.

I like this place, has lived music, good wine and the section is wondrous. I like enjoying a nice glass of wine, looking at the passers by, and listen to the music. It is very relaxing and the prices are not that bad either.

Went for dinner last Friday night and service was ok, but my prime rib took 45 minutes to arrive cold. It also seemed as if there was not enough wait staff and my poor waiter ran his ass off. The head waiter was apologetic abut my food arriving cold, but made no offer to have it warmed up for me. My partner ordered grouper and tilapia arrived masquerading as grouper. I was not impressed. This is the second time I have eaten at this restaurant since the new owners have come in. Granted they place looks great, and the drinks are good but the food is awful. Won't be eating there again for a long time.

This was the first night out I had in Fl on my visit. It was wondrous! The environment is very nice. The staff are amazing! The artists who play did an amazing job of keeping the music going and played all distinct types of show songs, This area is for any and all who love to randomly split out into song and dance. Just don't hit over someone's drink. Don't ignore to tip your artist! It was great!

This is hands down the attached bar I've ever been to. Every time I go, I have an excitement. The bar is cash only, but you come here for the environment more than the drinks. Last time, I went, Genna and Darnell conferred up and melody us, which was a welcome surprise. it's a good time. Even if, like me, you only know half the songs performed. Thanks

(3)
Nate H.

(3)
Kevin H.

Such a good place. The food is always right, the drinks are strong, and most of the staff, are amazing.

I don't see much improvement in the decor or food. Expensive and very mediocre service/food.
New ownership made the difference.I am coming back in again. Love how they redid the menu. Back to the basic's with a twist. Staff looks happier. I wish the new owners much success.

stay away from their specials! the pot roast and the traditional dishes are just ok. especially on the 2 for one nights the food and the service goes downhill. this restaurant was good when the new owners took over but now its really not good. what a shame for such a nice place!

Overall: A-

Good strong drink at good prices, its a nice place to sit out on the patio to watch the world go by with a good drink in hand. If you feel like dinner or a snack then food is also served.

I visit Ft. Lauderdale a few times a year from California. I always spend an evening at Tropics. Frankie the bartender greets me warmly and mixes me an outstanding Cosmo. I love his banter and enjoy watching him interact with the other patrons. Hey Frankie, see you in a few months...peace.

Hmmm... based on the review, it looks like you'll either love it or hate it!

Horrible Maître d' bitter queen, worse bartenders. The bar is losing money by their slow, entitled bartenders. Waiter good food ok.

Thanks

As comfortable as comfortable gets. Good food, a recently updated menu, The food is constantly fine and the costs are very reasonable. With the food, the costs and the entertainment, you can't lose.

(3)Derrick B.

(1)Aline D.
The great thing about this is place is its 2-4-1 drinks always! The crowd is much older in age, geriatric. Good food, I like their burgers.
(3)Kent C.
(4)Yu B.

(3)Michael M.
(3)Nate H.

What a difference a day makes. Paolo took great care of us and the salmon was delicious. The well prices entrée selections and half price drinks make this a great dinner option. It's nice to see that you can get a good meal and great service at a fair price at Tropics nowadays. I'll be back!

I would have given it a 5 star if the decor wasn't so ugly. Good food, great prices, big bar crowd. Sunday brunch is affordable and good.

(1)Pat D.

(2)Marc C.
Tuesdays are Tropics two for one dinner deals. Always delicious dishes. Always looking forward to it. Plus the crowd and the ambiance is a plus. Love it!
(5)Edward O Z.
Love the new menu and the service is fantastic, fun and friendly. Kudos to the new owners, Frankie at the bar and Todd our waiter. I recommend this place to all my guests at Grand Palm Plaza, Gay Mens Resort.
(5)Robert R.
We always have fun at The Tropics! The new ownership has extended much time, money, and energy into making many improvements from the overall dining experience to the nightly entertainment.
(5)Manuel Rey A.

(1)WiltonDrive A.
I don't see much improvement in the decor or food. Expensive and very mediocre service/food.
(2)Chris G.
Hmmm... based on the review, it looks like you'll either love it or hate it!
(4)A N.
New owners, new chef, new menu, new food. All of the staff worked hard to ensure our satisfaction. Happy to see Tropics is very much alive and kicking, with likely the best food on the drive. Two guests had the surf and turf salad and raved about it. We also had a couple of the chicken entrées very good too, portions large and quality excellent. Give it a shot, lots of specials during the week too.
(4)Farris J.
(1)Kelly M.
(5)Marqus R.
Since the first of the year (2012) there's been a change of ownership and with it some changes to this old standby of the gay Senior Citizen community. Gone are the frumpy gay reeking floral vases as well as the old mausoleum funeral home style of overly ornate décor. The entertainment stage has shifted to the north end and in keeping with typical gay traditional redecoration standards; all of the furniture has been rearranged. The building front has been repainted in a brighter hue of yellow, the outside seating rearranged and the overly large potted palmy like plants removed. I'm happy to say the food quality has remained good as has the table service. The crowd, elderly as in really elderly gay, has remained the same and the place remains as popular and crowded as ever. Rumor is that other changes are imminent, so stay tuned for further updates.
(4)Tim E.
New ownership made the difference.I am coming back in again. Love how they redid the menu. Back to the basic's with a twist. Staff looks happier. I wish the new owners much success.
(5)Tracey D.
(4)Christa B.
stay away from their specials! the pot roast and the traditional dishes are just ok. especially on the 2 for one nights the food and the service goes downhill. this restaurant was good when the new owners took over but now its really not good. what a shame for such a nice place!

It's just ok.

(3)Ty L.
Best liver and onions that I have had here. The place is very mellow. The place is like shady pines for gay men. Our server was great. Definitely had a Wilton Manor vibe. But everyone was 40 plus.
(4)Jeffrey C.
2 for 1 drink specials every night - even weekends. Great food specials weekdays, including 2 for 1 entrees. Can't beat it! So it caters to the elderly crowd (I'm in my 30's and everyone is twice my age) but who cares?
(5)Tom H.
This place has extremely overpriced food. They also have a plate charge which I found incredible. I can see why there was only one other table of diners in the dimly lit and depressing restaurant. We paid for our drinks and left without trying the food and for that I am thankful. I will never step foot in this dump again!
(1)Giorgio N.
Mmmm I heard there is someone @tropics using patron's credit cards info to buy on apple and newgg, and NO ONE is doing anything about it!!! grrrrr
(1)steve m.
I visit Ft. Lauderdale a few times a year from California. I always spend an evening at Tropics. Frankie the bartender greets me warmly and mixes me an outstanding Cosmo. I love his banter and enjoy watching him interact with the other patrons. Hey Frankie, see you in a few months...peace.
(4)Mark J.
(5)Jeremy S.
Very nice brunch. Very attentive staff. Great cheese cake. I wish we lived in Florida to come back more often.
(5)Gary P.
(5)Mark C.
Horrible Maître d' bitter queen, worse bartenders. The bar is losing money by their slow, entitled bartenders. Waiter good food ok.
(2)angel j.
(5)james h.
(4)Fatty D.

(4)Matthew F.
(1)Dave H.
The food last night was not as good as it used to be, had lamb shanks was dry and tasteless my partner had pot roast and it was very salty, they are on the way out in my opinion
(2)Pierce D.
Amazing! Went on a 2-for-1 night, and it was a blast. There were about 150-200 gay men over 40 singing along to show tunes, drinking, and eating dinner. The food was amazing. Had the seafood chowder and chicken curry. Both were great. Definitely recommended.
(5)Ann D.

(5)Duncan M.

I enjoyed taking my grandmother at this restaurant affordable services good serving and good piano entertainment. Delicious! Highly recommend it for some good eats and great live music. Love this Tropics Piano Bar & Restaurant about their service, so give them.. 5 stars.

(2)Shaunda E.
(5)Kathie K.
(5)Harold C.
(5)Yvonne G.
Love this place. Mimis is so much fun. Excellent staff, wondrous pianists and food. I enjoyed practicing my grandmother at this restaurant affordable plates good piece and good piano entertainment. Delicious! Highly suggest it for some good eats and great live music.
(5)Kum E.
I like this place, has lived music, good wine and the section is wondrous. I like enjoying a nice glass of wine, looking at the passers by, and listen to the music. It is very relaxing and the prices are not that bad either.
(5)Richard M.
(1)Nichole K.
The environment was friendly, the food was great and generous, and the song was very nice. Of course, the company you're with also helps. Very good service and their activities really fantastic. I can say that his staff is awesome! All of the staff was incredibly respectful & helpful, I recommend them to everyone.
(5)Roland W.
Great great food and environment amazing people and food can't say enough how good it was..Outstanding service and the best food! Highly recommend! Lively environment with an entertaining piano bar.
(5)Tamiko A.
(5)Elaine C.
Thanks
(5)Collin L.
(3)Derrick B.
(3)Isaac T.

(3)Nate H.
(4)Phil S.
(3)Kevin H.

(5)Bob B.

I would have given it a 5 star if the decor wasn't so ugly. Good food, great prices, big bar crowd. Sunday brunch is affordable and good.
(4)George H.
I received a nice message from the new owner of Tropics. Craig no longer works there. I also assume that nasty behavior there is no longer tolerated. In fact, after the most recent change of ownership, friends of mine who still go to Tropics have told me it is much better than it used to be.
(3)Aline D.
The great thing about this is place is its 2-4-1 drinks always! The crowd is much older in age, geriatric. Good food, I like their burgers.
(3)Kent C.
(4)Yu B.

(3)Charles E.
(1)WiltonDrive A.
I don't see much improvement in the decor or food. Expensive and very mediocre service/food.
(2)Marqus R.
(5)Christa B.
stay away from their specials! the pot roast and the traditional dishes are just ok. especially on the 2 for one nights the food and the service goes downhill. this restaurant was good when the new owners took over but now its really not good. what a shame for such a nice place!
(1)Jeffrey C.
(1)Kelly M.
(5)Tracey D.
(4)angel j.
(5)Matthew F.

(4)Gregg B.
(4)Dave H.
The food last night was not as good as it used to be, had lamb shanks was dry and tasteless my partner had pot roast and it was very salty, they are on the way out in my opinion
(2)Duncan M.

(5)Pierce D.
Amazing! Went on a 2-for-1 night, and it was a blast. There were about 150-200 gay men over 40 singing along to show tunes, drinking, and eating dinner. The food was amazing. Had the seafood chowder and chicken curry. Both were great. Definitely recommended.
(5)Ann D.

(5)Anonymous A.
What a difference a day makes. Paolo took great care of us and the salmon was delicious. The well prices entrée selections and half price drinks make this a great dinner option. It's nice to see that you can get a good meal and great service at a fair price at Tropics nowadays. I'll be back!
(5)Brian D.

(2)Susanne M.
(4)Jim D.
Good strong drink at good prices, its a nice place to sit out on the patio to watch the world go by with a good drink in hand. If you feel like dinner or a snack then food is also served.
(3)Farris J.
(1)A N.
(4)JL Q.
(3)Ty L.
Best liver and onions that I have had here. The place is very mellow. The place is like shady pines for gay men. Our server was great. Definitely had a Wilton Manor vibe. But everyone was 40 plus.

I visit Ft. Lauderdale a few times a year from California. I always spend an evening at Tropics. Frankie the bartender greets me warmly and mixes me an outstanding Cosmo. I love his banter and enjoy watching him interact with the other patrons. Hey Frankie, see you in a few months...peace.

Very nice brunch. Very attentive staff. Great cheese cake. I wish we lived in Florida to come back more often.

Mmmm I heard there is someone @tropics using patron's credit cards info to buy on apple and newgg, and NO ONE is doing anything about it!!! grrrrr

Hmmm... based on the review, it looks like you'll either love it or hate it!

Horrible Maître d' bitter queen, worse bartenders. The bar is losing money by their slow, entitled bartenders. Waiter good food ok.

Thanks

I like this place, has lived music, good wine and the section is wondrous. I like enjoying a nice glass of wine, looking at the passers by, and listen to the music. It is very relaxing and the prices are not that bad either.
