I go here weekly on Wednesday to pick up Stevie's lunch for Thursday at school. In the past there have been problems with the take-out order process but they have streamlined it it is fixed and Jasmine now rocks the take-out order.

Food would be so much better if it was actually hot! Second time I come here and the food is cold. The hostess sucks. They take too long to seat you. And the waitresses are all weird. The managers are scary. No wonder why this place has gone to $h!t. There definitely won't be a third time.

I really liked this BBQ establishment. We were greeted by a nice gentleman and quickly seated. I liked the rustic look and I always check the bathroom for cleanliness, and the entire restaurant was clean. We ordered the red neck egg rolls, they were ok. I had the St. Louis ribs, similar to Chinese spare ribs, they have the same texture and bite, I'm glad to say they were excellent! My other guests had the baby back ribs, huge portion and very good and also the pulled pork sandwich, also a good portion and tasty. The service was fantastic, the waitress was so nice, her name was Florence. Oh yes, they had the best flavored ice tea in tampa/Wesley chapel. We had no room for desert, maybe next time. I will defiantly be back.

I really liked sonnys, especially the Florida ones. I have to now admit that the Mooresville, n c store is far superior to this one. So sad :-(

Living so close, we've been here quite a few times over the past 10 years. They've remodeled in the past year, and now have a bar area in the front, which we haven't checked out, but the rest of the restaurant is updated and more modern. They do offer a drive thru, which used to take almost as long as going inside, but on yesterday's visit was extremely fast and pleasant. Service is usually good, albeit comical on occasion. They offer barbeque everything, my favorite being the pulled pork or the sliced beef. Their sweet sauce is so good, I could probably overdose on it. My son loves to come here and fill up on their lemonade, ribs, and corn on the cob. Their mac and cheese is also really creamy and good. I enjoy their salad bar, which is usually equipped with lots of toppings and dressings. Soup rotates on a daily basis, but they have a chicken & dumpling soup that is very southern and delicious. My favorite appetizer is the corn nugget basket with ranch. I'm not sure what they do to their ranch dressing, but it's the best I've ever had. I do feel it's a little pricy for barbeque, but for convenience I choose it every time.

We ate inside a few months ago and it was great so tonight we went through the drive through. We ordered Brisket and got home with a basket full of chopped fat with a few bites of meat. I was shocked. We tried to eat around the fat but seriously it was 70-80% fat so we tossed it. I may eat here again inside where you could send it back if it was bad but would never go through the drive thru. It was like buying what normally would be thrown out.

The salad bar is really good. So is the "Big Deal" and ribs. We always get the fries extra extra crispy... I like the sweet sauce and the spicier sauces. They usually give you four sauces to choose from that are really good. The people are really nice as well.

I'm so disappointed! I decided I order a turkey for thanks giving this year instead of cooking one myself so of course I thought of my local sonnys. I was told that I would have to prepay for the turkey which I happily did. I was so excited...but my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. When I arrived to pick up my turkey I discovered that my sonnys turkey was actually a pre-cooked butterball turkey that they had thawed. I wasn't really getting a homemade turkey at all. I was getting a $20 turkey and being charged the $40 sonnys price. I'm angry and my family is quite upset. The manager failed to mention that they weren't making the turkeys. I feel VERY mislead. What a horrible thing to do to especially during the holidays! this location is a franchise and not a corporate store and the owner should take pride in his business and his community. I will be hard pressed to do business here again. Thanks sonnys, thanks thoughtless business owner, thanks shady manager. Thanks for ruining my Thanksgiving!

Sonnys has several good deals, including a kids eat free deal on Mondays, and several all-you-can-eat options. They also have buy-one-get-one free drinks all day, every day. I got the pulled pork sandwich on garlic bread (Texas toast), which was very flavorful. We also ordered the corn nuggets for an appetizer, which my husband and daughter loved. The sauces are varieties of sweet BBQ. We will probably eat here again soon!

After picking my brother up from the Flying J, (He's a trucker), we headed up to the next exit for lunch. BBQ is always a good choice, so we stopped into Sonny's and ordered food. The service was good, even though getting the food from the kitchen seemed slow. I think that's because they actually had to make my brother's smoked chicken salad. As usual, the pulled pork, garlic bread and broccoli were good and the fries were delicious. Bebo said that the chicken salad was good, even if the smoky flavor was a bit.. odd.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Marco Island. Whole family enjoyed the meal. Very tender pulled pork. Kids LOVED their St . Louis ribs ... They wanted more!!!!

We went to Sonny's this afternoon and had very slow service. Once the waitress finally made it to our table we were prepared to order our food as well as drinks. When the food came out about thirty minutes later my fries were cold and the bread I'd requested on the side was not. I didn't even bother to tell the staff. The new award winning ribs my girlfriend ordered were not at all to her liking (she's a rib connoisseur). The waitress finally asked if our food was ok and I replied that the ribs were tough and that only one had been eaten. She said, well they are not for everyone and left. All we could do was laugh. Sonny's is usually reliable, thus the three star rating. Otherwise, this would have been a one or two star rating.

    (3)
  • Lisa F.

I was surprised by the three star rating, because this Donny's location is far better than the one near our home. Of course we only had salad bar, so maybe that's the difference. Here we were served bread of choice with our salad bar. All of the salad fixings were neat and plentiful. Our server, Francisca was charming and attentive. My little one and I really enjoyed our one on one time. :-) Wow! We were actually given spoons without asking -without asking multiple times, as a matter of fact, like at home.

Meat was cold. Brisket and turkey were dry! Service was terrible. Will not return.

We tried Sonny's after we tried the local On Q BBQ place. It was pretty good. We never eat BBQ. What we liked most was the ribs and the beef brisket. The chicken was a bit dry, and the broccoli was not flavorful until the next day when I added stuff on it on my own. Nice and convenient to have a drive through. we will most likely be there again since it is close to home.

  • Karen M.

If you can hold your stomach at the sight that is the people of Zephyrhills and enjoy slow cooked meat then Sonnys is the place for you. I was surprised at how tender and juicy the ribs are but the service, sides, and atmosphere put a damper on my experience.

  • Blake T.

I have seen some of the most corpulent people ever dining at this place. It is a built in deterrent for over eating...that is for sure. The food is okay, and they have a great all you can eat deal.

  • Gary H.

I stopped in here for lunch the other day really just wanted a salad and quick bite to eat. At every other sonnys that I've been to I was offered the choice of using one of my side dishes for my meal. for a one trip usage of the salad bar .not at this place they proceeded to tell me that they didn't trust their customers. that people would take advantage of them . So I kinda took it personal like they were calling me a liar or a thief. So I bought the salad bar full price. the lettuce was hot .not cold. not warm but it was like it was put on a hot plate. the stuff on the salad bar was not fresh .don't know about all of it but what I had was not. When she came to take my order she evidently was preoccupied and while reading my order back to me she got it wrong 3 times. By the time I got my food I was ready to go .pso I asked for a box and a to go cup for my drink. And the check. she brought me my box forgot my check and my to go cup. I waited 10 minutes for her to bring my check and my to go cup I finally just got up and started walking to the cashier. she evidently saw me and was like okay I'll get it to you in a minute sir. Evidently another one of the waitresses noticed what was going on, and came over and took care of me. got my bill for me. got me a to go cup made sure everything was okay. they knew something fell off at this point. won't be coming back here

This location has ruined the whole Sonny's experience. We ordered ten wings and 2 big deal pulled beef brisket meals. First came the wings with no celery or dressing. Second there was the dirty silver wear and no plates to eat from. The waitress had no clue what she was doing! She brought out our beef brisket, well at least I thought it was. It was fatty and nasty. I told the waitress and she informed me they changed to chopped brisket and it tends to be fatty. I then asked for sliced beef and that was just as bad. The waitress said she would have the manager come over and he never did. I over heard other customers complain about the terrible food as well. I was disgusted with the food and service. Do yourself a favor and don't eat there! I will never go back! Disgusted in Wesley Chapel 5324 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Wesley Chapel, FL 33543 Neighborhood: Wesley Chapel

Usually I only review places I like, but this place is so bad that I feel anyone looking for good or average BBQ should be warned. I asked for their two best meats and was served baby back ribs, pulled pork, corn and mac N cheese. The pulled pork started out ok a bit below average, but no real complaints. Then I had a bite of the recommended Mac N Cheese, if you like Kraft, you will like this. If you have higher expectations look out. The ribs really took a nose dive, they just plain sucked, no smokey flavor I mean they taste like they were cooked in an oven by an amateur. I had to cover them with sauce (which wasn't to bad) just to get them down. With as much as I travel I love to eat well and usually go to great lengths to find the best foods in the area. Tonight I failed...

  • Raf M.

Came through the drive thru and ordered two big salads and 20 piece wings. When I got home, 10 miles away, and opened my salad it was not what I had ordered yet it was something that looked like someone else had been eating out of. The salad had dressing all over the lettuce and a load of meat stacked inside! It looked like a ceaser salad with a load of smoked turkey. So I called back to this location and asked to speak to the manager because my dinner had been spoiled for the night and I was too far to go back. She asked for my address and told me she would send me certificates for lunch/dinner for two. A week later I received a coupon for 1 free entree with a drink. Not what the manager (Laurie I think) promised! The service here is terrible and slow. Zephryhills is a much better location! Always check your orders before leaving here!

Many times I would drop by with my au pair and have some creme brulee with creme de cacao , its la carte menu contains a good variety of choices. besides haute cuisine. The cheerful repartee with the wait staff is a joy, afterwards I always look forward to the petit-four brought to our table by the delightful Berta who carefully lays out the delicacy and says Voila as our soiree comes to a conclusion.

  • Rebecca Y.

Sonny's is 5 star BBQ, but this location loses a star because EVERY time we leave here with takeout we have to double check the order before we leave the building. Too many trips back for something they forgot. And of course, the staff hates us, but I'm sorry, it's corn bread or garlic bread and baked potato, sweet potato or fries. Not to mention that take out comes in individual plastic boxes. How hard is that? With all that said, it's Sonny's. You CAN'T give it less then four stars for food alone.

    (4)
  • Jesse B.

Sure, it's standard fare BBQ, but this location is nicer than most and the drive through is really convenient for a quick dinner. The "by the pound" selection seems to be plus sized, which is nice. They have all the condiments, wet wipes, and paper towels at the table for convenience. The prices are quite reasonable. There is nothing to complain about really, it just isn't quite worthy of a 5 star review (4.5 perhaps).
