I like a restaurant without frills as much as the next guy, so I'm a fan of places like this. Everything I tried, from my own ribs and chicken, to the bits of pulled pork I stole from my mother's plate when she wasn't looking, all satisfied. The spicy sauce is probably hot for the average Vero resident, but this place isn't exactly a place for extremes. If you're looking for a life changing experience, look elsewhere. If you just want a filling meal while you knock back a bottle of domestic beer, you could do a lot worse.

We ordered take-out for dinner and had the "pulled" pork sandwich. This pork was unbelievably dry and was chopped not pulled, indicating that they definitely do not slow cook their meat. Had their pork not been slathered in their sauce it would have been inedible. The beans were good, however the fries were a sad sight and I could not eat more than a couple before giving up on them. Lastly, their website listed a two for Tuesday special where you got two pork or beef baskets for $10.99, however when we asked for this they acted like they didn't know about this special and that their website was out of date. Any reputable business would honor something posted on their website even if incorrect, but sadly smokehouse clearly isn't concerned with their customers as evidenced by the terrible "bbq" and poor business practice. Save your money and find somewhere else to eat.

First rule of evaluating a BBQ restaurant, especially one that has "smokehouse" in their name, is does it smell like a smokehouse. It didn't. Second rule - if the menu says that they smoke their meat for 8 hours, they are taking some shortcuts. Smoking a good-sized brisket takes at least twice, and sometime three times, as long as that. Third rule, if they rely on sauce to get flavor, it's not a BBQ restaurant. All that said, while the half-rack of ribs I had were tender and flaking off the bone, if they didn't have sauce on them, they would have had no smoked pork flavor. My guest had the "Carolina" sandwich - an combination of brisket and pork - and the meat was so finely chopped (ground?) that there was no distinguishable pork or beef flavor. Carolinians would be offended. My guest's serving of beans had a skin of the top, which means that they were held under a heating lamp for some time - how much effort does it take to serve a single portion of beans from a pot? All in all, you'd be better off going to Publix for their frozen barbecue.

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid in the 1980s when it was Fat Boys Barbecue. we always get the same thing: large pork sandwich special. It comes with french fries and coleslaw and iced tea. The new owners changed the name of the restaurant, and of the sandwich plate, but kept much of the old menu. The barbecue sauce is about the same as it always was. It is unique and I have not found any I like as well. I was hesitant to try it, sure I would be disappointed. The truth is, the last time I was there which was in March 2014, I had the best meal I have ever had there! They were very generous with their portions of delicious juicy sliced smoked pork. If you really want a bit of local flavor, this is a great place to get it. It's right on the railroad tracks and shakes when trains go by. I think they still have the jukebox in the corner, probably plays a lot of country music. To be clear, this is not my scene at all. I live in Boston! But when I go to visit Vero Beach, I always make sure to stop at this place. just like when I travel anywhere, I like a taste of local culture and cuisine.

Absolutely dreadful and it starts with indentity. When you think of a name Smokehouse BBQ you think of ribs, brisket, pork, chicken. Sauces, rubs, smoke. I was astonished to see lobster and filet mignon on the menu, but ok, I can over look that. Atmosphere. This place have no idea what it wants to be. TV's all over. Country decor and R&B playing on the radio. Not to mention 6pm on a Saturday evening and we were two of 4 people eating. Should've been first red flag. FOOD: Ribs. No smoke. Leathery skin. Dry meat. Horrible sauces that tasted like a gym shoe smells. Pulled pork: wasn't even recognizable. And tasted like something cooked days ago Max and cheese: tiny portion. And stingy on the cheese that they just spread over top and most likely microwaved to melt. Beans: my guess was Bush's beans out of the can. I was severely disappointed In this place because I was so looking forward to BBQ, which there are practically ZERO options for BBQ restaurants In the area.

The interior is fairly basic, some booths and wooden decor. The music overheard was 80′s music. The menu has BBQ, steaks, salads, sandwiches and homemade desserts. I didn't order a salad but from what I saw, the salads were a good hefty size. For an appetizer I had the fried okra ($5.49). Nothing amazing to make note of, just some fried okra served with ranch. I also felt like it was overpriced for the amount we received. When I'm at a bbq place, I gotta get some sweet tea! The sweet tea here is more like SWEEEEEET tea. Not enough tea flavor for me and tasted like straight up sugar water. My friend and I each ordered the 1/2 rack and a Smokehouse BBQ meat. There were so many options, I really had a hard time deciding. So he ordered the Baby Back Ribs with the sliced beef ($16.99) and I had the St. Louis Ribs with the Carolina ($14.99). The Carolina is a mixture of pulled beef and pulled pork combined and tossed in the mild sauce. The sides available are french fries, BBQ beans, mac & cheese, coleslaw, hot or cold cabbage, macaroni salad and potato salad. They also have sweet potato fries for an additional $0.50. So my friend had the 1/2 rack of Baby Back Ribs. sliced beef, BBQ beans, coleslaw, and garlic toast. The baby back ribs were tender and full of flavor. I could have just eaten the ribs without sauce. The smokiness was great! The sliced beef was just as how it sounds, very lean tasting. The bbq beans were alright and the coleslaw wasn't too shabby either. The garlic toast... MMMM.... Anything garlic is excellent in my book. I really enjoyed the toast because it was full of flavor without being greasy. Eating ribs is greasy enough, I don't like my bread oily so the garlic toast was perfect! I had the small portion of St. Louis style Ribs, Carolina meat, Smokehouse hot cabbage and macaroni and cheese, and garlic toast. The St. Louis style ribs were great too. It really comes down to your personal preference when it comes to ribs. I thought both were really enjoyable. The Carolina meat would be great for sandwiches. The hot cabbage was my favorite item of all. Seriously, amazing tasting cabbage!! Tender braised cabbage, bacon, and onions with a slight sweetness. Anything with bacon is amazing, am I right? The macaroni and cheese was a bit underwhelming for me. The sauces they have here is Mild, Hot, Sweet, and Mustard. I made a mixture of about 40% Hot, 40% Sweet and 20% Mustard. Man, so much food! But I couldn't turn down the homemade desserts. Smokehouse BBQ Grill has cookies ($0.50 each), banana creme pie, coconut creme pie, peanut butter pie, key lime pie, pecan pie and peanut butter with chocolate chips pie for $3.50 each. The server said the peanut butter pie was the most popular but she liked the banana creme pie the most. Sounds like a fine idea to me! Wow, this is some good pie! They always say a good crust makes a good pie and this certainly was tasty. Along with a side of coffee, I was a happy camper. Overall, the food is good here although certain items are slightly overpriced. The best thing was the cabbage, I think it's worth just ordering on its own and nothing else. Well, maybe some pie too. :)

We decided to stop here when we saw the place was packed for lunch. Seemed like a place where the local boys go - waitresses were calling a lot of the guys by first name. I ordered the pulled pork platter ($8.99) and it was chunky, not stringy, plus came with fries, beans, cole slaw and garlic bread. Cant beat that! Hubs ordered a half rack of ribs ($13.99) which also came with fries (he subbed out for sweet potato) and cole slaw. Very tender and juicy. Decor wasnt anything special, but after 3 beers and two full plates, we walked out paying less than $35. Snobs go somewhere else - this place was downhome cooking at a good price. I wish i saved room for pie

Typical southern barbecue restaurant. St Louis ribs were good but a little dry. Prime rib sandwich was very good. The side dishes of baked beans and hot cabbage with bacon were also good. The prices were very reasonable and the service very good. We will be returning for the baby back ribs and desert.

Really enjoy their wings, BBQ beef sandwich, fries, and macaroni and cheese. Peanut butter pie is great also!
