We had found what I thought was a good deal through eversave.com . I even checked the reviews on tripadvisor.com , and they were pretty good. We were pretty excited especially since it was memorial day weekend, an extended weekend for us and we did want to go somewhere. Venice, FL is a nice area surrounded by beaches, a nice downtown area with cute shops to browse through. Venice Palm Inn was a pretty good location that was close to all that I had described. However, the area surrounding it did not give me that "oh so safe" feeling. Usually when I have stayed at hotels, I feel pretty comfortable walking in the morning, but I wanted to make sure to wake my hubby up to do that with me. I just didn't feel that the hotel and the surrounding were very clean. There were many cob webs, bugs, areas of foundation that needed work outside, etc. The hallway to the elevator had a big room that was wide open and lighted up and it had random furniture there. Inside you can also see water stains on the ceilings and dust and debris everywhere around. I walked by the pool but it was not a big deal. It was at least on the back of the building away from the sound of traffic on the front. Inside my hotel room, I was welcomed into an older hotel. I knew that would be the case. The hunter green carpeting had specs of dirt and dust that you can clearly see. There were quite a bit of areas of holes and spackle on the walls. The bed was quite low level compared to the newer ones, and it just had a flat sheet on it with a fleece like cover. I refused to sleep on the bed bc I was able to spot some bugs, yes I did, sorry to say. Under the flat sheet, I also saw like gross stains on the mattress. I also saw bugs on the couch and the bathroom area. I know we live in FL, land of the bugs but still. I just didn't feel right, and had the itches all over my body to prove it. We knew that this place was just a place to sleep and would not hang out there any longer than needed, but still the fact we paid money made me feel yucky and uneasy. The hotel website states there is free wifi, microwave and refrigerator in each room. That was not there. The breakfast consisted of either a breakfast sandwich, fruit and yogurt parfait or biscuits and gravy from the subway next door. It was pretty good. The front desk workers were very nice, but of course, they were not going to dare ask how was your stay. The rest of the trip was fine and we had survived, but I can not whole heartedly recommend this hotel to my worse enemy. I do not feel the money saved was well worth it. I also do not believe the amount they advertised of 79/night was well worth it either. Just my opinion.
