Cheap Mexican food classifying itself as high end. Always too crowded.

Excellent food, excellent service, good value. We went on a Wednesday night for the live music and had a wonderful time. The service was extremely friendly and helpful with our party of five, including one infant. The food was served quickly, and was the best authentic Mexican I've probably ever had. I tried the carne asada, and it was amazingly juicy and flavorful. The margaritas are fantastic. (The top shelf mi pueblo margarita is dangerously smooth!) My 10 month old daughter had a blast "dancing" to the mariachi band and soaking up all the attention from the staff. She was in Heaven! Everyone enjoyed themselves, and we cannot wait to go back.

Very good food. Fish tacos are of the chain! The fish is fresh and crunchy. The shredded beef there is really good as well.

This restaurant has the most authentic, enjoyable atmosphere. The food and service are good, but I'd go here just for the ambience alone. The courtyard is as good as it gets for a romantic date. Try it out.

Excellent Food. Very authentic. My only complaint is the Venice location is a bit small and crowded. But they're busy so that says the food has to be good.

What started as a fun evening turned into one of my worst dining experiences ever. The food was tasteless, the staff was rude, and management was horrible. If you're craving Mexican keep driving. There must be somewhere in town where you can get quality Texmex/Mexican food, but Mi Pueblo isn't it.

Awesome food, great service, excellent waitress, super margaritas...who could ask for anything better! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! We will most definitely be back!

I love this place! Been here a handful of times and had great service and food every time. The avocado salad is good, although pretty heavy on the creamy dressing, on the side is better. I have also had the veggie fajitas and they were delicious. You can have a lot of food of just a little bit and nothing seems over priced. I went here for my birthday with some family and friends and we sat outside which is SO nice. The lanterns and lights in the courtyard seem to warp you into a little Spanish heaven. The top shelf margaritas are pricey ($12 for 1) but worth it if you want a bit of a buzz, you only need 2! Plus they are really good. We came here for Cinco de Mayo in 2013 and it was really fun. Lots of games for kids, and adults, free stuff and music. I love the decor and ambiance. I highly recommend this place for a fun night of Mexican food and drinks! Great for out of town guests and parties!

Beautiful courtyard & restaurant layout, albeit in a somewhat shady looking neighborhood (pawn shops & bail bond signs generally aren't a good sign ...). Good crowd on a Saturday night, but we were seated quickly. Ordered a couple of Azul margaritas - massive, and very tasty! Tortilla soup was good, although I would've preferred more tortilla & less rice - but nice flavor made up for that. Grilled chicken avocado salad; chicken lacked spices. Chile Releno was tasty. Overall, I'd go back for the atmosphere & great prices.

  • Sean F.

The margaritas were very good and the food was extremely tasty. It was a thirty minute wait on a Sunday evening to get a table and no reservations for parties under six but you can hang out in the bar while you wait. The service was pretty spectacular at both the bar and the restaurant. I will certainly visit again.

I am not a big fan of Mexican food but this place was quite nice. The food was tasty and there was a Mexican atmosphere. I can't remember if I actually saw any actual Mexicans. Though that doesn't matter so much. It was a fun experience and full a great food. The staff were quite friendly and I felt as if they sincerely cared about our experience.

Based on their Yelp reviews here they tell me that the locals in Venice don't know shit about Mexican food. Mi Pueblo actually serves up some decent and authentic Mexican grub. Very nice bar and atmosphere as well with efficient and friendly service. If you are into tequila , they have over 150 brands so go for it. Unlike most of the local restaurants in the Venice I would recommend them and will return again on my next trip to Florida.

Superb dining experience. Beautiful ambiance, friendly staff, delicious food. Margaritas were delicious. Even the "Golds" were reasonably priced. Fish tacos were light, crispy and delicious. The fresh avocado added a special touch. The chicken quesadilla had peppers and onions, which I could easily dislike if overdone or mushy, but they were perfect and flavorful. My daughter absolutely loved her first experience with fried ice cream!!! Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

We like Mi Pueblo a lot. The food is good....the last time I had the Pollo de Mole' which is chicken with a sauce made of dark chocolate and chili peppers. It sounds weird, but is a nice change. A person at our table who had eaten Mole' before said this one was very well prepared. I do have to un-recommend the cheese dip. It is a yellow cheese, with not much flavor. Where we came from (Atlanta) cheese dip was always a white cheese, usually with chopped jalapenos in it, but this yellow dip was not good. The service is good, and if you are into sitting outside (and risking a nearby smoker) they have a lovely courtyard area under a huge tree with a nice fountain. The restaurant has a cute thing they do with their wait list...they give you a painted wooden stick with a celebrity name on it, so while you are waiting you hear things like "Angelina Jolie, your table is ready". It's fun, and takes the boredom out of waiting. I have never had to wait more than about 10 minutes.

Best Mexican in Venice Fl. Our family stops in a few time each year on our 2 week vacation in Venice and we always have a great time! The salsa is fresh with crispy chips a great way to start off the meal. We love the table side guacamole that they will make to your taste with different fresh ingredients. For the main meal some favorites are chicken fajitas, chicken fajita quesadilla, enchiladas. We are always too full to try the desserts and usually leave with a box for the next days lunch! Great service and ambiance! Sometimes if seated in a booth in the bar area its a bit loud because the whole restaurant is usually packed but its still a wonderful place to stuff your face! Yum!

The BEST Mexican place in town! This place has it right! Great food, staff and atmosphere!

While spending the weekend on the beach my family and I were beginning to feel tired of the whole seafood theme. We came across this restaurant and decided to try it out. We were immediately waited on, the food came out fast, and everything was delicious! The atmosphere was beautiful and service was great! I definitely recommend this place.

Great food, great margaritas (and even better during happy hour when their prices have been cut), great service, great atmosphere both within the restaurant and outside on the front patio. The food is always delicious. Of all the times I've been here there has never been an issue with the food. Chips and salsa are always good and The guacamole (both made table side and not) is always on point. The staff are attentive and always kind and happy to help you out. Whenever I am in the Englewood/Venice area I always make a point to eat here. Wonderful. Love it.

It's a nice place to enjoy dinner. I typically sit at the bar and the the bartenders are very nice and attentive. The dinners are large portions and very tasty.

Had a lunch of chicken enchilada, chicken chimichanga, rice and beans. It was very good and pretty big compared to lunches at other restaurants.

  • Kimberly G.

I am a great foodie and I have eaten at several Mi Pueblo locations between Florida and Tennessee and this is the worst one I have been too. The staff was friendly but when I received my meal of echiladas suza and chimichanga I had to pay for the sour cream and guachamole which has always come with the meal. The chicken in both items was dry and unflavorful. It tasted as if they had opened a can of cooked chicken and rolled it in a tortilla without any sauce or flavoring from something simple as onions. The refried beans tasted as if they came from a can and only had cheddar cheese on it instead of the traditional white cheese. The chimichanga was horrible and not crispy at all. It tasted as if it had been cooked hours before and placed in a pan to sit. Overall, this was the worst dinner that could not even been classified as "Mexican". If you are interested in bland food, this is the place for you but if you know what real mexican, texmex and americanized mexican food tastes like, stay clear. Go to the grocery store and buy an Old Elpaso dinner kit and fix it yourself and it will be 1,000 times better.

Very overpriced for what you get! Food very bland except for the salsa. I ordered the chicken burrito with cheese sauce (not sure what it was made of... Didn't look or taste like cheese). With a side of beans and rice. My other half ordered a combo plate a beef chimichanga with a chicken enchilada. Both very small portions and to pay extra for the rice and beans. A pretty place to sit and visit, hard to talk, very loud..,just don't order the food.

Working at an area hotel, I need to eat out on occasions to be able to recommend local businesses. I highly recommend this restaurant. Their food was fresh, flavorful and the place is just so well decorated as well. The waitress was very good and she was very attentive. Drinks were refilled without having to ask, as well as the chips and salsa. Food was well made and you could tell they cared about what they were serving. I will recommend this place to anyone coming into the hotel looking for a good meal, great prices and friendly wait staff!!

  • Monique D.

Ate here again because I really wanted a Margarita. I had the Tortilla Soup and Veggie Quesadilla. The soup was so full of shredded, overcooked chicken that there was almost no broth. The crunchy tortilla strips that are supposed to be on top were totally soggy. The Quesadilla was made from mostly canned mushrooms and velveeta cheese - YUCK! I could have eaten at Denny's, except that they don't have Margaritas! Sorry, this is not my idea of good food.

  • Zig H.

Good place to bring the family or a group of friends for a good Mexican dinner and a lot of fun. The ongoing and seemingly eness supply of chips and salsa will get you started and a good selection of reasonably priced and well made drinks will ensure that everyone leaves happy. The food is faitly standard Mexican fare, with an over abundance of cheese, beans and rice. The fajitas are a standout, but the pablano peppers are not among my favorites. Overall a nice and fun place with decent food, reasonable prices and good service.

  • Judy R.

In the mood for something different for dinner and mi pueblo was it! We hit it at happy hour 2 for 1. Hubby had the chicken mole which he was pleased was skin on bone in chicken pieces covered in a rich mole sauce! He declared it the best he has ever had, I had a combo of a chimi and taquito. Just right size after indulging in their chips and a great salsa. Their rice is super fresh and refried beans great! No room for dessert tho. A great meal and ambiance. We'll be back.

  • Scott W.

I enjoyed the dinner. They have a live mariachi band on Wednesday night so that was a treat. They were a 6 piece band and very good. I had the tacos al pastor. Good flavor, nice size portions. Rice and beans was pretty good, standard fare. Good food and a very colorful restaurant.

I think Mi Pueblo is excellent. I had the Steak Fajita Burrito and it was very good. I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but I would highly recommend Mi Pueblo to anyone visiting Venice.

  • Beach G.

I grew up in southern California so I have had my share of amazing Mexican food. this place doesn't even come close. the food is bland and over priced. the staff is not very friendly. the salsa tastes like they just put canned tomatoes in a blender and that's it. no flavor what so ever. I plan on never going back!!

    (2)
  • D E.

AWESOME...have eaten there now several times. The BEST experience and food each time. My FAVORITE of all. I have lived in Venice for 9 years kept saying I'd like to eat at Mi Pueblo. I waited way too long for the experience and food. VERY REASONABLE!

    (5)
  • D G.

Great service and amazing margaritas. Andre the mixologist continually serves up the best margaritas around. All the waitstaff are accommodating and Sam the manager takes care of everything. The food is always fresh and hot. Try the tacos el pastor.

    (4)
  • Julie S.

Tourist Trap, Very expensive and not very authentic. Margarita comes in a very small glass, and chips were stale and not flavor for sauce. Service was ok. But not a place I will go back too.

Average food at best and very little in the way of variety. Good service and nice drinks, asks for the mi pueblo margarita if your looking to get a little tipsy.

I have a thing for cheese. A serious thing. Queso Fundido should be a delightful, gooey, intermingling of cheeses, peppers and sometimes chorizo. Not here. It came out in a big bowl with all the cheese on top and a chorizo "chili" at the bottom. I attempted the fruit-on-bottom-yogurt trick to mix it together. Globbed some on a hot tortilla. The waitress confirmed for me that it was indeed what I thought. A microwaved bowl of cheese. A salamnder or broiler can change the flavor profile of cheese. The waitress was good. Polite, generally friendly and took it off my bill.

Upon arrival I was told that the wait was "no more than" 20-25 minutes. I liked that approach versus the staff telling you you it will be 20-25 minutes before we seat you. Turns out the wait was more like 10 minutes. Basic good Mexican food. Neither outstanding or bad. Chips delivere upon being seated were warm and salted just right. Was disappointed in the "bottom-shelf" margarita, might be good to take up other suggestions here to go top-shelf. Had the Chili Rellenos (with meat) which was above average. My mother ordered the Chicken Avocado salad which she claimed was wonderful. The only thing lacking here is the WOW factor. It was a good Mexican dinner. Go in with the attitude that it will be "good" and you will not be disappointed.

I have been visiting mi pueblo for years and have always found their food to be awesome. I have sampled many different margaritas and while the "conquistador" is the best by far and comes in a large glass, the house margarita is also tasty but is more of the standard lime mix with house tequila. The wait can be long depending on what time you get there but the bar will put your margarita in a plastic cup and there is ample seating outside for the wait. The fish tacos are wonderful but favorites include the enchilada sueza and the tacos el pastor. Love it!

Went for lunch yesterday, the place was very hyped up by tripadvisor. Had the siete lunch special, wife had quesadilla, sister had taco salad. Taco salad was the best of three though all three were pretty generic/average. Décor was decent. Would go back but nothing special note: this was a draft review from over a year ago

Mi Pueblo was a pretty good restaurant. The atmosphere is awesome. We sat upstairs, which was pretty nice. The service was pretty good, but could have been a little more attentive. The food was pretty good, but not great. The guacamole didn't have a ton of flavor, the queso wasn't very spicy, and the chips tasted a little stale. I got a chimichanga, which was a little tough on the outside, but otherwise good. I also got a taquito, which was crunchy and delicious. The rice and beans were good sides, and the salsa that I put on top made a great finish. Overall, it's a fairly good restaurant, but a few changes and additions to the food would really spice things up.

So. My wife and I tried Mi Pueblo on Tuttle Ave. in Sarasota and were disappointed. Mostly in the horrible service. Not so much the food so we gave Venice a whirl. Service is the same. Staff rushes you through the meal in order to get you the hell out of there. Why? I don't know. The place isn't full of patrons or anything. Food was lousy. Actually, worse than the restaurant on Tuttle. Microwave bad. The beef smelled and tasted old. What is it with this chain? Are we the only ones treated this awful? I had less than 5 minutes to enjoy a beer before ZAP! Here's your meal. ZAP! Here's the check. ZAP! Thanks for the tip! Our awful waitress grabbed the bill and ran like she was claiming stake in gold land. Give me your wife's soup, enough of you already get the hell out of our restaurant. Enough of this chain. Maybe you'll enjoy it I guess.

I am going to have to disagree with Matthew for a couple of reasons. Venice does not have much in the way of Mexican food, bar Taco Bell which isn't really Mexican food anyway. So for this fact alone, I am going to give Mi Pueblo a pass on "authenticity". The reason I will make this exception is because the scenery and vibe there is wonderful, and service has always been great. If you are looking for something more exciting then check out US 301 just north of Main in Sarasota, where you will find more Mom & Pop Mexican restaurants which rival even those of my new city Los Angeles. Mi Pueblo is well loved in Venice and for good reason. They have mariachi who come to most every table for a personal performance if given the chance. The prices are also very good - when you factor in the entertainment.

  • Heather B.

The atmosphere is probably the best thing going for this restaurant. The food is decent enough to warrant a second trip from me to try something else. My first time here I got steak fajitas and they were quite good.

Very good Mexican food. Excellent atmosphere, a must if are in town.

  • Matthew G.

Mi Pueblo could be awesome. Could be. The location, geographically, isn't the best, but the building and courtyard that this restaurant sit in are awesome, truly. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the staff is mostly Mexican, and the mariachi band is pleasant. But, the Margaritas on tap (yes, much like beer, you can also have crummy margarita mix with an infinitesimal amount of tequila flow from a tap) and the insanely generic Mexican dishes are a huge let-down. How many ways can you put chicken in a tortilla with a side of rice? Depending on how they fold the ends of the tortilla you have like thirty different dishes. The beans are bland, the chicken is boring, the rice is completely pointless. Dios mio, hire a chef with an ounce of creativity to come in and turn the menu into something befitting the killer decor.

Tasty margaritas, decent food, and a fun environment. One of the best Venice restaurants for sure!

  • Fred G.

We loved this place! We got there early and by opening time 40-50 people were in line to get in. That tells you something right there. Margaritas were excellent, food was generous and authentic. On Wednesdays there is an authentic mariachi band ( they don't know Don't cry for me Argentina! ) I highly recommend this place, but get there early!

  • Crissy H.

Other than the $2.50 sangria, this place was not worth visiting again. Everything tasted over cooked and processed. The chips were super greasy, guacamole tasted bland, and the chicken was extremely dry. I think I would only come back for happy hour ONLY. Sorry :-(

  • Shannon R.

Mi Pueblo is definitely the best Mexican in Venice. I lived there for 15 years and did not find a better place. We'd go there often for birthdays and the fried ice cream is delicious!

First good restaurant we ate at since coming here 5 days ago and going out every night. Beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, attentive waiters, very quick service. We had chicken fajita, very moist, marinated chicken, and beef fajita, tender and very well seasoned, with all the usual fixings. The only "bad" part is that there seems to be always a loooong wait involved, 45 to 50 minutes. The place is extremely popular! Oh, and prices are great, compared to CA almost cheap.

My family goes here every time we are in town. I haven't had a bad meal yet and the service has always been good. We went at dinner tonight and had a great experience. The service was excellent - fast and attentive. Andrea was great, even thou her area was pretty full. She had a great attitude and was friendly. The salsa is ok, but a bit too much of a tomato paste taste for me. I like more chopped up chiles, tomatoes and onions in it. I had the 3 shredded beef tacos with rice and beans. The meat was flavorful, tender and not a bit greasy. Two thumbs up. My wife had the chicken quesadilla. She was pleased with it as well. She felt like there was a lot more filling than a lot of places use. Nothing here seemed to be very spicy - hot. However, I did hear someone ordering their mild salsa. I laughed a bit because I thought the normal salsa didn't have any heat to it. I had to put in a mix of Habanero, jalapeño and Cheyenne pepper sauces to kick it up a bit.

This was our second visit to Mi Pueblo and it is consistently delicious! I had the avocado shrimp salad and my hubbie had the chicken fajitas. Both were excellent. Great prices and very good service. Love the chips and salsa too!!

Neat location with a very large menu offering a variety of meal options. We were lucky enough to be there at the night of a balloon animal maker for the kids which did some amazing work! They had tacos el pastor however it did not have pineapple on it which I thought was a main ingredient for those type of tacos.

My family was able to enjoy the Venice location Monday night around 5:30. Every aspect of our experience was great! We were immediately seated on the second floor opposed to the staircase without wait. On our way out around 7pm there were probably 20 people waiting for seats, so get there early. The server (Ruth, I think) was very attentive during our entire stay. We started with the chips and salsa. The chips were unsalted (or maybe very lightly salted) and the salsa was deliciously mild, and not too tomato-y or acidic. I'm not sure if the chips are always red and green, but they fit in quite well with the Christmas decorations and the Moravian stars hanging above the staircase. Between 5-6pm they had a drink special, so my aunt and grandmother ordered sangrias for half price. I didn't try them but they were beautifully decorated with orange, lemon, and lime slices. For my entrée, I ordered the combination to try out a couple different menu items: the enchilada suiza, the taquito, and the chimichanga. Although the chicken was dry in all 3 of these items, they were still very flavorful. I especially enjoyed the chimichanga which had scrumptiously crunchy ends. The rice was a little bland but the smooth beans made up for it. To me, what stood out most was the balance of salt and cheese. All too often Mexican places will add wayyyy too much salt and cheese and call it flavor. The food I had at Mi Pueblo let the true flavors of the dish stand out. Would definitely like to come back and try the rest of the menu!

It's Wednesday and we are headed back to Mi Pueblo for great food and entertainment tonight. The Food, Service and entertainment is excellent and the Margarita's are so tasty. Can't wait for 5:30 to roll around...this is our treat for Hump Day! Come join the fun and fantastic food and the service is above and beyond... Jim & Rita

Every time we come here we love it just a little more. The Plaza is so dreamy it would justify the most mediocre of meals. However, mi Pueblo doesn't disappoint in the eats category either. So come and enjoy a tasty meal, good Rita's and the brill plaza. Cheers!

My family and I eat at this restaurant almost every time we're in Venice, which is about every 2-3 months. The food is very good and they have a good tequila selection. We love the outdoor dining - the courtyard is so charming and the globe lights in the trees are beautiful!

I don't give out many fives, but this Resturant deserves that high of a rating based on a combination of factors. We were there during happy hour and could not believe how low priced the house margaritas and beers were. The guacamole ( not made table-side) was delicious and enough for four. The service was great. The ambiance is nice especially the front patio. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and there were left overs for a take home snack. Plenty of thank you's from the front desk as we were leaving. We'll definitely be back. PS We've been to Mexico five times and the food here was as good as in country.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
