Yoshi Cafe delivers the goods. As a cooked sushi connoisseur, I can declare the rolls here as good as they get. The Monster Lobster roll is just a thing of beauty. I like the fact that the rolls are light on the rice department, the biggest difference with Origami Sushi. The other difference is that Origami has an army of sushi rollers, while Yoshi has a smaller mom and pop feel with a single chef who obviously takes great care and pride in his work. This is definitely one of my favorite sushi places in Tampa.

Great food great service the service was better than last time the food is always great

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Ordered takeout and was hung up on deliberately (lady said "OK bye") while I was talking. I ordered shrimp fried rice which seems like it should be reasonably priced ($8 based on an old menu). I get to the restaurant and am charged over $13 for this small order. I get the food in my car and realize it has an overwhelming raunchy smell. I opened the box to find that these " shrimp " look like they came out of a can - no larger than a nickel in size. If this is the quality I get for a $13 fried rice, I want no part of it. The quality of this place has just gone down drastically.

I just ordered take out from here. This is the fastest sushi place I've ever been to. The hostess and the chef were very polite. The place is very clean and the lack of a tv makes it pretty quiet and relaxing despite its proximity to the road. It's a real surprise when you walk in because the outside is so generic but the inside of the cafe is so pleasing. The sushi was really good despite being slightly overpriced. The size of the rolls does not justify the price but they aren't small rolls either. This is probably just a really amazing place to hang out, can't wait to come back. Its so close to my apartment!

The sushi is AMAZING. I love the warm/cooked plates. Try the volcano roll with the delicious tempura crumbs on top and salmon in between the stacks of sushi, finished in a delicious sauce. The family who runs it is from Korea, and they kindly put up with my practicing my Korean with them lol. The atmosphere is not too fancy, which keeps the prices down, but it is nicely decorated with bright and soothing colors, and either has awesome K-Pop concerts on tv, or relaxing ancient-style music with a virtual koi pond on the screen. Again, the sushi is amazing, the chef does a wonderful job. So flavorful! One time they were so kind they even gave us free dessert - some delicious ripe grapefruit! I only gave it four stars just because one time when we showed up in the morning right when they opened and the plates didn't seem super clean. This has never happened again, though. One time I found a piece of lettuce/seaweed in my water, but it seemed no big deal to me, because - the sushi is AWESOME.

Thanks to my fellow Yelpsters for pointing out this gem! Restaurant is located in the Publix shopping center opposite Sickles High School. Sushi is a great mix of raw and cooked options with some very clever rolls. The Monster Lobster is a home run. This is my new sushi favorite!
(5)Jay Y.
This place is tucked away in a strip mall next to a Publix supermarket but their sushi is excellent. The decor is average but the plate and sushi presentation are very creative and imaginative. This place is definitely a hidden gem in the area.
(4)Elizabeth D.
Yum. This place is super casual, but they serve up some tasty fish. The prices do seem a little steep though considering the atmosphere.
(4)K B.
Fantastic! The Monster Lobster Roll and the Crazy Mexican Roll were incredible. And they are so nice! Will definitely return.
(5)Clemmon H.
Good food. But the owners are rude as hell. Spent over $150 and treated me like crap. Won't go back.
(2)Kevin H.
Yoshi's came highly recommended by a friend so I was anxious to try it. When I finally had the opportunity to try it, I was underwhelmed. My son and I ordered several rolls. They were okay but nothing fantastic. Actually I believe they were the smallest in diameter that I've eaten anywhere, about the size of a quarter. My girlfriend had the bulgogi and it was not like any I've had. The meat was not grilled and there were no lettuce leaves to wrap it in. It was more like pepper steak. The atmosphere is good and the service was good. I wanted to love it but it was just ok.

I visited Yoshi Sushi on a quiet Tuesday night. When I arrived, I was the only customer, though others filtered in during my meal. I wanted to get a sense of their sushi, so I did a combination of raw and cooked rolls, all on the lower end of their price points, as I think you it's easiest to assess the skills and flair of sushi chef on the simple things. The Bagel Roll was filled with smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese. Overall, good - the smoked salmon was delicious - but the rice was a little mushy and not very well seasoned. The Mexican roll paired fried shrimp with avocado and spicy mayo sauce. This one was a big disappointment as the shrimp were not crispy and almost chewy. They were clearly fried much earlier in the day and the coating had turned a little gluey. The Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll was filled with super chopped tuna - nearly pre-macerated - with some spice and panko crunchies. Not bad, but the fish was rather bland and mushy. Overall - not impressed. Not the worst sushi I've had but not anything amazing either. The service and atmosphere was nice, but unfortunately there are too many other sushi places around with better quality and taste.

My girlfriend and I went here on our way to suchi alive, and then we remembered it was the place we joked about having $1.00 sushi. So we tried yoshi based on another review. It was a small place, so when the chef had to make a huge to go order that took time. We waited patiently and when the food arrived it was awesome. We plan on coming back again, I might say it is even better than Grill 54 trinity which is our favorite sushi place.
(5)Dee G.
Some of the best sushi in Tampa! Not fancy...just yummy. Pricier than average sushi places in town.
(4)Fabiana S.
Sushi is fresh and taste. It's a family owner.
(4)Israel W.
Yum!! Wish they were open on Sunday's! The rolls were great and the hibachi steak was Delish! Loved the rice and veggies!
(4)Willow G.
First of all, I am really fond of the casual & comfortable atmosphere. It's really clean, and . I would say that this place is very family/friend-oriented as it's a family run restaurant; the owners are very sweet & friendly. It's so easy to lose track of time there because we will just fall into having conversations. I have recommended many of friends to try this place! Sometimes the restaurant gets so busy, and I can tell it's a little difficult to manage but they try their best & seem to manage well. Their sushi is absolutely wonderful; I can tell how fresh their fish is, never do they freeze any of it, which I think is important! I know many of my friends love their Volcano Roll, but my personal favorites are Monster Lobster, Crazy Mexican, & their Yoshi Crab Volcano. I definitely recommend trying out their Limited Edition Special Rolls (especially because some of them come with their delicious miso soup) they list on the whiteboard, loved the Valentine's Roll I tried back in February & the Mother's Day I had last night! One last thing that I absolutely love, is their tempura green tea ice cream --- I posted a picture, I crave this ALL the time. I know this place rather well as I go pretty often, I went four times in one week once during my lunch breaks & dinners with friends & family. Thumbs up!

My husband and I have been loyal customers of I Ai Sushi in Tampa, but a friend told us to try Yoshi Sushi so we did. I have to say, it's much better than I Ai. Everything is much fresher and therefore much tastier! The only complaint we had was their house salad lacked flavor (the ginger dressing that is) and could use some extra veggies (it was only lettuce, cuke, and some krab). Overall it was really yummy and very clean inside. We will be back again for more nomz.
(5)Jenn L.
Monster Lobster Roll. Enough said!!!
(5)Rebecca S.
food is great but the wait is REALLY long been here many times if its crowded go somewhere else
(5)Nicole F.
Every thing was delicious!!!
(4)Jerimi F.
Sushi was great, be sure to try the Buccaneer roll. Very friendly staff.
(5)Angela C.
This is a small place, family owned and operated. We enjoyed dinner very much. I had the crispy tuna roll and the tiger roll and they were both good. My husband had the 14 piece sushi plate and he said the fish was very fresh and very tasty. The service is not the fastest so if you have a tight schedule this might not be your best choice. However, if you are willing to patiently wait for the owner and his family to personally prepare your meal in front of you then you will enjoy this place. They do have take out which seems to be popular and we felt the prices were very reasonable. We would be happy to eat here again.
(4)Henry K.
Hidden gem in citrus park. Everything is very fresh. Quality and quantity. We go there again and again.
(5)Kristen H.
Always our favorite sushi place! Simple, clean, and great service! They are happy to customize our rolls if we ask and prepare any specialty items! We have been here several times and have never had a bad meal! Our favorites are the sashimi roll with extra tuna and the crazy Mexican! Delicious every time!
(5)A. L.
My first visit. Not very friendly for carry-out. Lunch time and empty place-no customers.
(2)Katherine W.
I've only been here once, but I plan on coming back. We ordered beer and sushi, and the food was good and the prices fair. The place was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. All in all, a great experience.
(5)Kel C.
I've eaten here a number of times, both dining in, and taking out. I see that a number of people were displeased with the fried rice and otherwise noodle/rice dishes -- and I can't speak for those. I only eat the sushi here. I'm surprised that people would judge this place so harshly for a food that they don't specialize in. I mean, the place is for sushi, and yet people are rating them for their fried rice which isn't even a mainstream dish in their culture. If someone wants fried rice, go next door. If you want some good sushi and a decent miso soup -- go to yoshi's. Not to mention, their prices (especially their lunch specials) are very good for the sushi market.
(5)Greg S.
Not much to look at and have gone to Chinese. Takeout and passed by so many times. Finally decided to try and was extremely pleased by food. Sushi rolls are excellent in absence shi shi fufu decor. Will eat here again as it's close and yummy
(4)Heather F.
I'm a regular here. Its basically our go to neighborhood sushi spot. the hot night roll and monster lobster are a must when you go here!! Service is fast. Its never really busy. I'm only giving it 3 stars because I tried to be adventurous and try a new roll each time I went. I mainly tried their raw rolls and they were just okay. I just wish their specials would change more often and had different fish combinations. But other than that, the staff is great. The place is quaint. And again, the hot night and monster lobster are my favorite special rolls and are always consistently amazing!
(4)Kelly R.
To start off I ordered the teriyaki lunch special and the gave me a quarter of chicken and one scoop of rice. I called to ask if that was routine and she specifically told me "this is not a Chinese reaturaunt this is Japanese". She then proceeded to hang up on me. Don't waste your money on complete rude service !!
(1)Tiffany B.
I love this place! I am very, very picky about sushi and Yoshi hasn't let me down yet! They have a great selection of both raw and cooked sushi, so it'll be sure to please even the wimpiest of sushi eaters. The service is quick and friendly, the rolls are always flavorful and fresh, and the prices are extremely reasonable!
(4)Jacqueline D.
Saturday night 8:00pm. Food was absolutely delicious. I was surprised, honestly. For a place so small, it was so cute inside. The only thing is that it was empty. We were the only customers. Recommend trying the Yoshi volcano & Kilimanjaro. So delicious!
(4)Kelleigh M.
Oh Mr Yoshi, you're so unassuming from the outside, yet so pleasantly wonderful on the inside. Located in a strip center, my fiancé was a little underwhelmed when we pulled in. I told him, trust me. The yelpers have spoken and say its phenomenal. It appears that this restaurant is run by a husband wife team and their young daughter is the server. They were slammed when we got there, and just as much of their business was coming from takeout as it was from dine in. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching him make the sushi, quick and efficiently. We ordered the Mexican (very freshly fried tempura shrimp), the red dragon (my favorite), the rising sun (wrapped in rice paper instead of seaweed), and the spicy yellowtail tuna. All of the rolls were extremely fresh. In fact the tuna that topped the red dragon was so fresh it was good just to take off the roll and dip in the soy sauce. An order of edemame, 2 bud lights and 4 rolls cost $47 before tip. Not too bad especially for the quality.
(5)Ksenia A.
My go-to sushi café. Always fresh and delicious!! I don't often sway from the raw stuff, but the chicken terryaki special is okay by me. In light of the two recent reviews, there's nothing terrible or gross about this place... don't hesitate to try for yourself.
(5)Fabiola D.
This place is gross, it took over an hour get our food, terrible service, the food, was the worst yakisoba I've ever had, the meat was chewy and the noodles tasted like pure oil... The tempura was also pure oil and it was more like a Milanese than a tempura! Worst Japanese place I've ever been to. Not worth going to it...
(1)Ann J.
Would I return? NOThis place currently has a 4 star which is what brought me here... A 4 star rating should use real crab, not imitation, offer gluten free soy sauce or NON-GMO... Or TAMARI... None of the above here... The rolls we did order we didn't enjoy enough to finish them! My sushi buddy Gabriel found a fruit fly in his sushi rice...YUKthe cuts of yellow tail (Hamachi) were not very good cutZ...ugh
(2)Jason H.
Having seen the reviews for this place I was looking forward to being wowed, but in actuality the only thing that had me saying WOW was how much they charged for mediocre sushi. This Korean-owned Sushi restaurant suffers from the typical problems you find at most sushi joints under Korean "rule": bland, under-seasoned sushi rice; sloppy fish cuts; and too much sauce on the sushi rolls. I think it also says something about the true intentions of a restaurant when you have just as many Korean dishes on the menu as you do Japanese.

Yoshi makes me say Moshi Moshi sushi!! What would make the sushi experience complete at Yoshi is to pair the food with episodes of ShÅgun playing in the background. The sushi here is better than average. The food comes out well prepared that is pleasing to the eye. The fish (cooked or raw) taste fresh. Their menu has a standard variety of sushi, sashimi - served up individual pieces or rolls. There is also the quintessential japanese fare to be enjoyed here. The interior is sparsely decorated with the sushi bar taking dominance of the space. Most patrons seem to do take out from Yoshi however I have seen a good lunch crowd. The only server never seem excited or much enthusiastic to have customers in the establishment. Yoshi has great potential to spice up the interior and bring their game in the service aspect. If you are craving decent sushi and are in the area and are not looking to be wowed by service then yoshi is a great bet. The only quirk - every time I've been to Yoshi Cafe I find myself starring at the obnoxious teeny bopper singing competition they keep streaming. Why oh why Yoshi?

In my neck of the woods a sudden yearning for take out sushi used to result in a stop at the grocery store for an uninspired version of the delicacy. Then I saw Yoshi Cafe, nestled next to a chinese place and a dry cleaner. When my latest craving hit, I took a chance. Walking in, I discovered a bland and austere interior, but thank goodness I didn't let atmosphere be the final word. The sushi itself was very good and, at times, absolutely delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fish fresh, the tempura crunchy but not greasy. I don't go for a lot of the heavily sauced sushi, so this review is limited to the basic masago/ unagi/ spicy tuna variety sushi which were all delicious and traditionally prepared. I did step outside the box and order their Outback roll with grilled beef and scallions. It was delightfully tasty and I would order it again, especially for those in my world who don't do sashimi. They are a tad on the pricey side, but it's a price I gladly pay for fresh, tasty sushi. I'll be back.
(3)Christina S.
I've been here several times & this last time the lady was so rude. They're always empty. The sushi is ok but don't even request a special roll because she'll act like she can't understand you. She completely understands the request she doesn't want to do it & she doesn't like u talking to the sushi chef. In Cali we order directly to sushi chef. I'll never go back again.
