What a delight! My party wanted Pizza !I could agree if it was going to be a good pizza.Well,a search of the Internet suggested Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar so after reading a couple of reviews ( a couple 1 very positive,1 negative as a former restaurant owner,I choose to follow the lead of the positive review. We arrived at the perfect time to seat ourselves & we were welcomed by our waiter immediately. The Wine on tap was a perfect pairing for our pizza. The three of us all ordered our own pizzas off of the menu but added a few sides to make it special.Every pizza came out better than we could have anticipated. We had great dinners with boxes to go for each of us. We drove more than 20 miles for this pizza! We will do it again

My girlfriend and I drove over from our hotel to this location to get a good pizza and not just any regular pizza, authentic with fresh ingredients and this place did it for us. We really enjoyed coming here and having a nice pizza. A little bit more expensive than some places, but the authenticity is on point. We started off with the Proscuitto Arugula Salad with the large shaved parmesan and tossed in a balsalmic vinaigrette, this was big enough to share amongst two people. There were so many pizzas that we wish that we could have tried them all, but in the end we went with the Pizza Lydia, which was absolutely amazing, so many flavors and not like your ordinary greasy pizza. All in all this place was very nice andt was worth every penny, if you're in Tampa this is a great place to grab a pizza and pig out. I would reccommend trying out this spot, and plus there is a 10% off your pizza when you check-in for all those Yelpers out there! Enjoy! I plan on coming back here and trying more pizza on my trip back to Florida, you do a great job at making great pizza, so please don't ever change!

Another evening of running around & hitting as many places as I could, from my old stomping ground. This establishment was seeing it's fair amount of action for the evening. I got the garlic knots, which is a medium pizza crust with only shaved garlic. I love the flavor this gives and the crust is thin & crispy. I only ate a few pieces & got the rest boxed to go, LOL I had other plans for the rest of it. An enjoyable place to visit. What's a girl to do? know what you like & try something different.

Found them here on Yelp trying to find a place to eat good pizza before driving back down to miami. Down there we have Anthony's Coal Fired and it's pretty good... But this place is definitely better by like 1000%... Best Wood Fired Pizza I've ever had! And great service!...

Pretty much fits the definition of "hidden gem" to a tee! Located in an unsuspecting location and is actually quite small inside, wait till you try the food! The wine selection is fantastic and don't get me started on the pizza. This is the only pizza place that I would prefer the one without meat (and there are a multitude of non-meat items!). After trying a few of the pies, the sette formaggio (7 cheese) is by far the BEST pizza I've had. Even those who are not ricotta fans liked the globs of ricotta piled onto the pie. As a person who likes "everything" on their pizza, for my favorite to be the one with all of the cheeses but nonetheless just cheese, this blows my mind. The hummus platter comes with their garlic bread to dip with so you get pretty much 2 appetizers in one. The hummus was fantastic! Tasted fresh and was super flavorful. The garlic bread was great and even though you could see plenty of garlic on it, wasn't very strong (which was good for my breath!) For a place where you can see the wood oven in the corner of the restaurant and watch your food being cooked, this is the kind of place I'd get behind.

I have passed by this place all the time, but have never stopped in until a friend of mine told me about it. It is a hidden gem! When we ordered the salad, I thought it would come out on a big plate we could share but it arrived on a small plate for each of us. I wasn't sure if our waitress thought we both ordered a salad or not but we happily ate the Caesar salads. I had a delicious Piña Colada Cider and my boyfriend had an old fashioned root beer. Both were yummy and nice and cold! Our pizza came out fast and was so yummy! Crust was thicker than normal wood fired pizza, fresh ingredients, and super yummy sauce!! We got the medium and it was $19.95 but well worth it. I will be back!

The only pizza that really tastes good in florida, VS N.Y.C., is brick oven/wood fire pizza. Sooooo this pizza is deeeeeeeelish! I love the Raquel with crispy pepperoni. My husband loves the Raquel with meatballs. The owner and employees are awesome and very personable. It's a warm casual atmosphere with good stuff always on t.v. Good wine collection n good salads too. Clean, cozy, and yummy.

Have been in Tampa this year every other week. I always make one nights meal here! I've been coming back for 2 years now, never disappointed consistently spot on pizza!

In the area killing time and decided to eat and a highly rated yelp restaurant, unfortunately it was closed on Mondays. But lucky for us this gem was a few doors down. The menu sounded wonderful and we decided on the caprese salad which was perfect. Very flavorful not an overpowering balsamic and a generous portion of mozzarella. We then ordered a 10' carnivore pizza which was cooked to perfection and loaded with meat. I would definitely return to this restaurant and maybe even try some of their unique pizza toppings such as clams, sriracha, pistachios and many more.

Being an Old School Northeastern red sauce pizza guy with over 60 years experience demolishing many a wedge -- yet being adverse to cheese consumption (it's just fat gussied up, after all) -- finding myself ordering a ricotta and mozzarella "Bianca" on a very recent Sunday will tell you just how much faith I have in this gem of a pizzeria. I've eaten here dozens of times even though it requires a pilgrimage from St. Pete. And doing, in the main, the red ones. Then the owner put a pistachio pizza in front of me, and well...my eyes got opened fast. Pistachio! Who knew! Every pizza produced here, in my experience, is a minor masterpiece. Each unit is precisely assembled and quick-baked in one of the greatest little wood fired ovens ever designed. Light chewy crust with "leopard spots" on the underside. The top, on this "Bianca", is emanating a subtle whiff of the garlic that permeates the two cheeses. It's akin to the scent of a fine Chanel perfume on a maiden's cheek. It would be so easy for the garlic to overpower the other elements in play here, but not at Wood Fired. The balance of the fresh garlic interspersed with the cheeses and the black pepper is ... magnificent and spot on. You can just inhale the aromas as the thing cools down. What one savors, after consuming a wedge and then pauses (if possible) to reflect, might well be that ol' black magic they now call "umami", coined I think by the Japanese to describe the other mouth receptors beyond sweet, sour, salty, etc. That is: It can be described as a pleasant "brothy" or "meaty" taste with a long lasting, mouthwatering and coating sensation over the tongue. Or perhaps I'm over-thinking all this? Of course, the real trick at any great (but small) restaurant is to zig when the public zags (as it is in life overall, no?). So I'd suggest you arrive when the place ain't slammed and the orders aren't backing up. Or call ahead and order (the menu is online) and get there in time to sample the fresh wine on tap, the cool craft beers, or a nice glass of home brewed ice tea. Maybe you get real lucky and get Ashley as your waitress; she's got it going and does what needs to get done between your table and the oven itself. The man behind all of this is a hard-core extremely talented and educated pizzaioli named Peter Taylor. He, like me, started up in the Northeast (in his case NYC) but then, after years of research, travel, and trial + error, he opened his dream: Wood Fired. Plenty of ambiance and that IS Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin singing background. If Peter is not busy cranking out the pies, he's a wonderful guy to chat with about the yeast in his dough, those tomatoes in his sauce, yes ... his many pizzas. Over decades of interviewing (as a writer and occasional "critic") pizza owners from Italy, France, Argentina and from all over the USA, I've never found anyone on Peter's level of knowledge, passion and diligence. Try this.

What a great restaurant! I ordered the pita bread with hummus appetizer and the Pesto Pizza for dinner. The pita bread was fresh and the best I've ever had! The pizza was absolutely delicious!

This pizza is incredible! We have tried multiple pizzas at this joint, all of which were fantastic, but the Dante's Inferno is unlike any pizza I have ever had. The flavors are incredible together and the fresh ricotta cheese is divine. I brought my family when they came to FL to visit and they said the Dante's Inferno was the best meal they had the entire trip.

Pretty cool wine list. Lots of beers on draft. Salads looked great. I had the Caprese w Prosciutto. Very good. Needed some bread so I ordered the foccacia. Was tasty w fresh rosemary. Went w a small Big Sexy Pie. Ricotta, brussel sprouts, spinach, tomato, oil, and artichokes... very tasty. I didn't have room for dessert, so unfortunate. Ashley was a fun server.... if I lived here I might be back!.

Decided to try Wood Fired on a Friday night after a friend had eaten there ealier this week. We arrived at around 8 and were told that our waiter would be with us about 3 times in the first 10 minutes of our arrival. The place was not as crowded as I thought it would be (could be location), so I was not too sure as wy it was taking our waiter so long to come and take our drink order. We had plenty of time to decide on a pizza while we were waiting. Our waiter did finally arrive (we had decided to give him a few more minutes) and we went ahead and ordered meatballs (with cheese) and the Michaelangelo pizza with grilled onions, mushrooms, pepperoni and San Marzano tomatoes. When our meatballs arrived, they were pretty tasty . The tomato sauce was yummy and if we had some bread, we would have been dipping in for more!! The pizza was well done (just the way we like it) as it is cooked in a super hot oven! It was even black on the bottom- the best way to have a pizza!! I can't say it was the best tasting pizza that I have ever had, but I wasn't disappointed. I would be willing to give them another shot..

Best pizza I have found outside of Italy by far! Service has been poor in the past but was much better this time. Definitely a hidden treasure for this area. Everything is so fresh. We had the hummus which was very tasty and served with Greek olives. For dinner we ate the Palobina pie which was cooked perfectly. The true gem is the crust. So many places drown their pizza with sauce to hide the crust. The crust stands out! Definitely worth the trip for any true pizza lover!!!

Excellent service & food. My date and I showed up here at 9:49 p.m., thinking the restaurant was open until midnight, based on their hours listed on yelp. The restaurant actually was closing at 10 p.m. - but the wait staff was still welcoming, and insisted we stay, order, and not rush through our pizza. We did not feel for a moment that we were inconveniencing the staff, whom i am sure were eager to close and go home. On the contrary our waiter made us feel welcome, and offered up friendly service. Besides the service, the pizza was amazing. We got the pineapple pie (hawaiin), with siracha hot sauce added in. It tasted great, and the siracha was not over-bearing or overly spicey.

Delicious pizza that comes out pretty quickly everytime. The beer selection is good. They even have wines on tap. There's a giant projector screen playing the latest game. Definitely recommend for thin crust wood fired pizza!

I checked out this little hot spot meeting up with a group of ladies for the Wednesday night Trivia. We did awful that night on trivia but had a ton of fun. Wood Fired has a relaxed vibe of casual elegance - comfy chairs, warm neutral colors, and surprisingly quiet for the open kitchen plan where the pizzas are fired. I tried their BLT sandwich - a toasted roll with bacon, lettuce, tomato, fresh mozz and a smear of heavenly bacon jam. The bread was toasty with a few dark spots (yum) and the crunch was a great texture contrast to the soft fillings and chewy bacon. Every bite was absolutely delicious! So, why two stars? Well, the sandwich was served a la carte with no option to even add fries, chips, a salad, ANYTHING. It was really good, but kind of small. So, with a glass of iced tea and a nice tip for our server that took good care of us through a longer than usual trivia session, I dropped $16 and left still VERY hungry. Why didn't I order more food you may ask? Well, everything was really expensive for what it was. A pizza for one (or two not very hungry folks) start at about $16. My lovely but inadequate BLT was $10. I feel like if you are going to host a "hang out" type event like trivia, maybe you should offer some snacky options. Their very limited app menu runs from $15 for some beer-steamed shrimp down to $6 for some garlic bread (which, not bad) and there are salad options starting at $8. But I don't find it to be a good use of my hard earned money to pay nearly $20 for a sandwich and a small wedge salad. The pizzas looked good and I might come back for those as the pricing highly favors larger groups - ($16/$18/$20) but for a gal on her own just wanting a decent portioned dinner - they really let me down.

First visit to Wood Fired, and it was a success! We shared a Caesar salad and it was adequate for two people, and was good. The waitress stated that they do not make the Caesar dressing in house so was unable to tell me much about it... but for a bottled dressing, it was acceptable. We also had the Bianca pizza with the addition of chicken. Delicious, nice garlicy bite with a bit of sweetness from the ricotta... wonderful crust with some tasty lightly charred areas. Good service... a bit pricy for pizza and salad... but we did also have two of their "artisan" root beers, and that upped the price a bit. Will probably do take out from now on, but it is the closest to a good homemade pizza I have had in a restaurant.

Small, quaint, dimly lit, warm, inviting, authentic, intimate. Cheap decor, but the pizza is definitely worth it. Cute semi-romantic atmosphere for a date. The pizza is prepared right in the open. The boyfriend and I ordered the Michelangelo and added Kalmata olives and my first bite was.....blissful. This is gourmet pizza place with reasonable prices.

The pizza is very hit or miss. Sometimes it comes out great and has lots of toppings. Other times its the exact opposite. The selection of beer is very good. Wine list is lacking in originality. Service I've had while a little slow is warm and inviting.

I'm form Jersey so I'm picky about my pizza. This was our Second visit and the pizza was fantastic. Due to the fact you can tell that the ingredients are top notch some made from scratch. This is becoming one of my favorite pizza joints. A little pricy but well worth it.

The pizza was excellent. Crispy crust and perfect sauce and spices. Had the large pepperoni, black olives and mushrooms. Just wish they would have offered jalapeño and it would have been perfect. Highly recommended.

We were staying at the Embassy Suites, and they offered up every unappealing chain restaurant in a 10 mile radius. I found this restaurant, and am thrilled that I went. The smell of the oven was inviting, even before we walked in. I had a toddler and a 5 year old in tow (usually a back table and no service). We were given a table of our choosing, next to a GIANT wall size screening of the AFC playoff. The food was great. We had the foccaccia and the sette formaggi pizza - so good!!!! (no tomatoes if you like them). The service was great. The wine selection was really good. We thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like sports, no better seating anywhere.

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. The barbecue pizza is awesome and the meatballs and garlic wedges are great. Not really a place for young kids. They have a large menu with a lot of different options. Decor is modern and the place is super clean. Overall just a really great place to eat and hang out.

Everything I've had here has been excellent. The pizza is perfectly done in a real wood fired oven. The beer is cold and the servers are always friendly. The desserts are great. If you're a fan of tirimisu, get it. There's is amazing!

  • Robin T.

Best pizza I have ever had at this place. Their pizzas are all so, so delicious. My favorite is the Dante's Inferno, which they make with sriracha sauce, so if you like spicy, this is the pizza for you. Their pistachio pie and biaca pie are also both out of this world. You can pretty much add on anything you want to your pizza as well! As far as their appetizers, the hummus is good and while they give you plenty of bread (which I would get on their own for an app- they are tipped with garlic slivers! yum), the portion of actual hummus is small. If you like pesto, you will not be disappointed by the Pesto Tomato appetizer... It's basically tons and tons of pesto stuffed into a giant tomato. It's scrumptious and beautiful. The reason I didn't give this place five stars is because of the service. It can be pretty slow and I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that they have limited space for making the pizzas so they only make very few at a time, but independent of that fact, I've had some bad servers here in the past who just weren't very attentive and were slow. Also, there have been times when I've called to place an order and even after dialing several times, no one would pick up. But if you're not in a hurry and want to enjoy some darn good pizza, this is definitely the place for you.

we went 40 or more miles out of our way to this nice pizza spot. The wood fired oven is a great way to make pizza. We loved the pistachio pizza, never had anything like it! The margerita was good, though the sauce did not quite live up to what we have had in Atlanta at Varasano's or Antico. Still it was very tasty. I would definitely visit this place again.

Excellent pizza and service! Tucked into a strip plaza near the intersection of Bearss and 30th/Bruce B Downs and seating area. The seating area has a huge screen TV for watching games on the rear wall. If you want a date environment just ask to sit near the front right of the seating area. There is a bar as well. The space has the feel of a NYC Italian restaurant with dark wood furniture and white paper covering the tables and the food to match. Pizza is their specialty although they also have nice looking salads, sandwiches and dessert. The smallest size pizza is $16 and goes up about $2 per size jump and worth the price! I tried a half and half pistachio and quattro formagio which they were very nice about splitting so I could try both. They did ask that I choose two white pizzas or or 2 red sauce pizzas for my split which makes perfect sense. Both pizza's styles were excellent although I have to say that the pistachio really stood out. I think it was the fresh rosemary that really brought out the flavors in this pistachio pizza selection and the crunchy, thin crust is perfect! Fantastic - I highly recommend it!! My server was very attentive and helpful. I was in and out in 30 which was perfect for lunch time. I will definitely be back for dinner and think this place is a hit!

They got 3 stars from me because they located in Tampa Florida, but in NYC they would receive ony one star.. i went there few times and they have towering service. the recipe are good but the taste depends on the mood of the baker.

Yelp says they deliver. They do not deliver. Either they, or Yelp, are misrepresenting this business. This needs to be addressed by one party or the other. The pizza is wonderful. If the problem is addressed I will amend my rating.

Went there last night. Ordered the Raquel and only two basil leaves on it. Disappointing. Still great pizza though. The Lydia is a little doughy but I'm thinking it is like that because of all the toppings.

I have been here twice.. Just outside my new apartment complex. The pizza was good.. They have good number of varieties although my choices are always the same.. The items are not so expensive either.. I liked the food and the place as well.. Would definitely visit again..

  • Matthew M.

The pistachio pizza has the potential for greatness - it has a sweet nuttiness that is reminiscent of butternut ravioli and brown butter with sage (a bygone classic). The crust, however, falls flat, literally. It lacked any elasticity and conjured mental images of cardboard. The Caprese salad was delicious - highly recommend. Lastly the key lime pie was passable, but probably the tiniest piece of pie I've ever laid eyes on.. sad droopy disappointed eyes. Finally, as everyone else has noted, the pizzas are undeniably overpriced. I'm all for artisan pizza.. the craft, the care, the creativity.. But the dough is absolutely central to a good pie, and it simply wasn't up to snuff, at least not on this night.

  • Hoda B.

If you looking for basic wood fired pizza, this just the place for you! we ordered the margarita pizza, which is our favorite. They don't have it on the menu, but they were more than glad to make it for us, since it takes only tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil. It was very good, our server Ashley was friendly and very attentive. I probably will be going to wood fired pizza again. Unless I am looking for some exotic pizza with unusual ingredients.( actually, they have pizza with brussle sprout on their menu. But for me, the less ingredient there is on pizza, the more authentic it is.

  • John D.

IMO a very unique pizza joint. Having spent close to 10 years in Italy, this is the closest to the real deal (other than Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza). I think that the location gives the place a bad rap, but it is my favorite Pizza place here in New Tampa. Have been here many times and will come again. Just remember that this is not a typical American Pizza place, so have some expectation management and enjoy the homemade mozzarella.

I am all about gourmet pizza! My husband and I ordered two medium pies and ate them both, ouch! They were great, but I would not drive out of my way to eat here in the future. I can understand why someone in the neighborhood would think it was great. We had the Pizza Sophia, which was just ok. But, the Pistachio Pie was amazing. The pairing of the rosemary with the pistachio was excellent. This is the pie that I would recommend to anyone trying this place for the first time. I am not going to delve further into why I was not amazed by the pizza, because the people here take themselves waaaaay to seriously and I would hate to be the one responsible for a suicide attempt.

My sister had been here several times before, and we took her suggestion of showing up very early (right at 6) on a Friday night to avoid any crowds. It still took awhile to get the food even though the place was half empty, so I bet service can be quite slow on a busy night. We started off with the cheese plate appetizer. I would've preferred having more of the cheese sliced instead of cubed, but I liked how you could pick out which cheeses you wanted to taste. They had a few different ones that I haven't had before, so that was cool. Hands down, our favorite was the Sette Formaggi pizza (7 Cheeses - Mozzarella, Ricotta, Parmesan, Fontina, Asiago, Provolone, Romano, and fresh herbs). It was in quadrants, so you got four different flavors in one pizza. My favorite was the Parmesan section, and my least favorite was the Ricotta. I don't think I've ever eaten four slices of pizza before, but I did here because I wanted to try some of each! Good thing my husband and I ordered a large one to share! The only thing I didn't like about the place was our waitress. When I arrived, the other members of my party were already seated. I walked up to the table to find the waitress sitting in my chair next to my husband. And she didn't get up. She actually kept sitting there while I just stood next to the table. Oh no, don't bother getting up, I'll just stand. LOL

    Best pizza in Tampa.

  • Manisha K.

After a couple minutes of staring the waiter down, he finally offered us a table. Things just got progressively worse from there. We figured maybe after we sit down things would get better, boy was I wrong! He doesn't acknowledge us for about 15 mins then finally he comes over and asks what we would like and takes forever to bring us our drinks and appetizers. I would understand if the place was packed, but there were only 2 other people there, the place was completely empty! We decided to order a hummus plate with pita for appetizer, the hummus was chalky and seemed like it came out of a jar. We ordered the pistachio pizza to share, it was not way too burnt. None of us knew it was a white pizza so we asked for red sauce on the side, it took the waiter about 20 mins to get the sauce and it was horrible! It tasted like spoiled tomatoes. I have had pizza from here before and it was pretty good but now I know never to dine in here. Overall, service is so terrible its not even worth it to come for the pizza!

If more people made pizza like Peter does, the world would be a better place. My favorites: the Raquel, the Fine Pie, the Michaelangelo, annnnd pistachio pizza the-name-of-which-I-cannot-recall. Yum. Great service, great pizza. If you don't appreciate the quality of the pizza, it's because you live in Florida and have no idea what pizza should be like.

I recently took my sister and several of her friends here on a Friday night around 6:30. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated even though we'd called ahead to reserve our dough balls (it's weird, but that's how they ask that guests make reservations). To get started, we ordered the ordered the artisanal cheese plate. As a cheese lover, I was pleased with the cheese selection. The girls enjoyed trying each one with the different crackers and fruits. At eleven bucks, it might have been a little overpriced, but--hey--cheese is always worth a little extra. We ordered three pizzas--the Pizza Raquel, the Michaelangelo, and the I Carusi. All three pizzas were absolutely fantastic! Ironically, I think the table's favorite pizza was the Carusi, which is a pizza made with kids in mind. Ha. No matter your age, you'll love the Carusi. I am really tempted to give Wood Fired a five star rating, but I just can't do it. We had to wait too long and the server seemed somewhat unconcerned about our meal. This is a delicious restaurant and I look forward to returning.

  • Lala M.

Sorry I have to give 3 stars due to the wait. Great dough and excellent sauce and enjoyed the crunch from the wood oven. Seems like a small staff of 5; 3 kitchen and 2 wait staff. Extremely slow service ; ( but friendly. Check it out if you are not in a hurry and want to test your patience.

This little place was found by a great recommendation from the front desk clerk at our hotel. The food was great! We ordered the garlic hummus which was delicious, the best part about it was the bread with the garlic slivers. On the waitress' recommendation I went outside of my comfort zone and ordered the Big Sexy Pie with brussel sprouts, artichokes, pistachios, ricotta and many more toppings. I was a little nervous but the pizza was AWESOME! I ended the meal with the best cannoli I've ever had (typically not a fan of cannolis). The craft beer selection was pretty good. It took a little while so I wouldn't go if in a hurry but we had a great time.

This is our favorite pizza place. We each order a Pizza Sophia, hers with goat cheese and mine with caramelized mushrooms. We split a Caesar. Some people do not care for the thin wood-fired crust, but we have never been disappointed. Some of the staff know what we order and always make sure we are happy, even making the pizzetta over again if it doesn't come out just right. The wine list is actually pretty good as well.

Pizza was great! The atmosphere caught me off guard and was pleasantly surprised, a bit disappointed in their limited selection of (alcoholic) drinks but overall the service was great, food was fantastic and prompt.

Went here for the 1st time with a friend last week. I'll have to say I will be back. The average looking strip mall this little gem is in really betrays the fact that when you walk into this place is quite trendy. The food & alcohol selection is above average. I will be back & with more friends next time.

Yes, it is pricey for pizza. My bianco pie was $17 with sausage on it, and I was the only one that ate it. But it was sooooo worth it. Probably the best pizza I've ever had in my life. Incredibly delicious, but without a hint of grease or weighing you down. You could tell the mozzarella was made in house, it was that fresh. They hand roll and bake it right in front of you, and the whole place smells delicious. And it was simply out of this world. Somewhat of a thin crust, but it just made everything work together. Service was friendly and prompt as well. It's in a strip mall, so it may not look like much from the outside, but this is a true hidden gem in Tampa. Only been open a couple years, but they were doing a pretty good business on a Wednesday night, and it's easy to see why. Perfect place for a true pizza connoisseur, as they will for sure not be disappointed.

Great local find. Came here from out of town looking for something other than the usual generic restaurant. I was hardly disappointed - great pizza, fresh ingredients, organic herbs - it was a great meal. IThe service was excellent, the staff personable and attentive. The wine list is a very good and the wine values are superb. The only downside is I found the layout a bit awkward with a stand-up pizza oven behind the bar and behing that, the bathroom doors so prominently visible - I would probably give it 5 stars if not for that.

We were in Tampa for a weekend and a friend recommended this place. It was phenomenal! We got there about 30 minutes before it opened, so we planned to sit outside and visit with friends until then, but they went ahead and let us in early! The pizza was excellent. We ordered the Pizza Lydia and the Pistachio Pie. Both were delicious, but the pistachio was an exceptional surprise. I have never tasted that combination of flavors and was really pleased with it. This place really cares about REAL food with the best available ingredients. A great deal of care goes into the from-scratch naturally leavened dough (which was perfect!), the house-made hand-stretched mozzarella, and all the other ingredients. We talked to the very friendly chef/owner on our way out, and he explained that he is so committed to having the best ingredients, that he even has a hydroponic farm to source many of his veggies! This was definitely a treat and will be a required stop any time we make it out to Tampa.

Hello micro beer, hello thin crust pizza. Hello fun night. If you were not looking for this hidden gem, you would not find it. It is tucked into the back of a strip mall but let's be honest, everything in Tampa is in a strip mall. We had several of the beers that were on tap and they were all fabulous! The pizza we ordered was a classic margarita. The cheese was really fresh and the crust was to die for. It was a little pricey but ladies, Wednesday night from 9-close they have free drinks! If you hit them up then, you may see me there...

I can't really say enough good things about this place. I've been several times and each time the service was prompt, friendly and excellent--I can only think of one or two times where they were busy enough that I experienced a wait to be sat or served. (One occasion was a time I visited on a busy Friday with my mom and the female bartender was also acting as our server, so she had a lot on her plate.) The pizza is the stuff I dream about...the pistachio pie and the Lydia are my typical choices. To die for. Seriously. It doesn't get better than house-made mozzarella. The bartender Mike is also an extremely good host. He remembered my date's and my names and even our majors after our first visit. And gave us a free cannoli on one occasion (can't beat that). The beer and wine selections are excellent, and the atmosphere leaves little to be desired. Highly recommend.

Back in town for a week and this place was a priority. They have their liqour license and have put in better lighting. How much better can it get. Pizza is still great. Tampa u don't know what u have in this little gem.

Oh the joy!! THIS IS PIZZA! Not that disgusting, cheap, processed crap America loves because it's fast and convenient. This is what pizza is supposed to be. Fresh, perfectly paired ingredients that transform a handmade dough ball into something artfully crafted and delicious beyond words. If you've been to Italy, one bite may make you feel like you're there all over again. PERFECTION.

It's true, this place doesn't necessarily look like much from the outside. But the menu is inspired, the pies are creative and delicious, and there is legitimately something for everyone! I had someone in the party who was allergic to garlic, and there were a large number of pies made with no garlic! (Even their basic red sauce doesn't include garlic). This was very refreshing to find! The beer list is great. The wine list is good. They definitely have something for everyone on the wine list, and some excellent glasses available, but to be completely honest I was expecting more variety/ unusual labels. That being said, the wine that they do have is delicious, and Wednesday nights, all glasses are 2 for 1, and after 9 it's ladies night with select wines free (for the ladies)! They have deals most nights of the week, and this is a really fun place to go with a group (though be warned- the brick pizza oven is a little small, so though the pies cook quickly, your party will be served as things come out of the oven, and thus, not all at once). All in all, I'm a fan, and I'll definitely be going back!

I have not brought one of my friends to this place that has not raved about it! If you are sick and tired of the greasy, cup of garlic lard dipping sauces, cold when you get it pizza places... Please go here. The pizza is simply put delicious. The atmosphere is quiet and the staff is well-versed on a companion wine or barley beverage to complete a very pleasant dining experience. We enjoy the plate of hummus for an appetizer and then my wife and I each order a medium pizza. We are not starving, but we love to be able to take the leftovers home for lunch the next day! Also, the fresh made cannolis are a perfect way to end the foodie experience. If you go, request Mike as your server. He is quick, with a joke and your food!

This is my absolute favorite pizza in Tampa Bay! Love the Lydia but also like the Dante's Inferno and Michaelangelo. 12YO J liked the I Carusi and vanilla milk. Scott was a great server. I don't know who cooked the pizzas I've had so far but they've all been cooked perfectly. I like this pizza because not only are the ingredients fresh and fabulous, the crust is crispy but not all black on the bottom like some other place I will not mention. Try it!

Nestled off Bearss and Bruce B. Downs lies Wood Fired Pizza. A gourmet pizza joint that has a reputation for having horrible service. My family and I went there this past Saturday (Feb. 12). The place was hustling. We were greeted once we entered. We were able to get a table and a high chair for my daughter, so in the fact don't shy away because you have little children. Where the issues that plagued this place is the service. We knew what we wanted and the waitress kind of kept brushing us off. So after about 10 minutes we had drinks and ordered. So about another 20 minutes we had our pizza, Pizza Raquel. The pizza was delicious. We ordered a Grandi, which was not enough for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 yr old, and a 4yr). The pizza was thin, so a Grandi is good for 2 adults, anything less count it as an appetizer. They have a nice wine and beer list. Not a bad spot to go to on a Saturday evening. So all in all, Wood Fired Pizza has good pizza, but the service is lacking. Be patient with this place because the pizza is definitely worth the wait (as long as you get the right size).

Not to sound pretentious, but do you know how refreshing it is to find somebody whose zeal for pizza far overshadows mine? I mean, this guy takes obsession to new heights (or maybe new depths, but probably heights) and you can taste his passion in each bite. Showed up with ladyfriend and colleague to a Monday night empty house, seated, wined, and served quickly. My girl's a a celiac, which prompted the owner to come out and deliver a very, very convincing ten minute speech on how the extended rising times he subjected his dough to would sufficiently break down the long, troublesome strands of gluten protein in the wheat. We were sold, she was excited to eat pizza, we ordered three pies. This is five-star pizza, no question. The Ninja Turtles wouldn't even know what to do with the Michelangelo; heavy with succulent mushrooms, smokey pepperoni, and fresh, stringy mozzarella cheese. I'd never heard of anything approximating the Pistachio pie, but the subtle interplay between the rosemary, crisped nuts, and cheeses demanded my attention, and repeated sampling. The pesto pie was much lighter in flavor than I'm used to, probably less salt than normal, but allowed each individual ingredient to stand out and threw cares of green bits between our teeth to the wind. We did not have room to eat a slice of cheesecake infused with red pepper and apricot and topped with a chocolate balsamic reduction, but we did anyway. It hurt, a little, but we didn't feel bad about it because holy cow it was good. What I did feel bad about was the next morning, where my poor girl was bloated and uncomfortable, with the pizza crust as the most probably culprit. The owner made it very clear that he was not calling his pizza gluten free, just that other celiacs had eaten it without negative repercussions, so I'm not accusing him of lying, I just want to go on the record as saying that in this case, it didn't work out so well for m'lady's guts. So, if you love pizza and your innards don't hate wheat, this is the place for you. For all you celiacs, try Gourmet Pizza in Hyde Park.

Two coworkers and myself recently went here for lunch on Friday afternoon. You would expect this restaurant to be busy since it was a Friday and it's located downtown. Now I know why it wasn't. We were the only table in the restaurant, it took about 15 mins for our hummus appetizer to be brough,t out and then another 30 minutes for our large 14 inch pizza to arrive. Not once did our server come over to give us reassurance that our meal would be coming out soon or apologize for the long wait. The pizza was just average especially considering that the prices are extremely expensive and the portions are very small. I was so excited to try out this place but unfortunately we will not be coming back and I will not recommending it to any of my friends or other coworkers.

Visited the Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar tonight for the first time. We love wood-fired pizza and were vacationing in Tampa this week. We had a terrific visit. Service was quick and enthusiastic. They were reasonably busy but were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. For appetizer, we had the Mediterranean Garlic Wedges, which were excellent. Our server volunteered information about the pizzas. The three of us each ordered our own individual 10" pizzas: Pistachio, Raquel, I Carusi, and all three pizzas were great. The crust is absolutely SUBPERB!! Michael, our server, was attentive, upbeat, and friendly. We could hear the other servers and they were excellent as well. Excellent experience. We plan to come back tomorrow or the next day before leaving town.

Great pizza! Loved the Palombino and Pistachio pies. They were perfect with a bottle of Urban Uco as suggested by our charming server Johanna. She was very knowledgeable about the all wines and pies. Service was outstanding. Will be back soon.

Boyfriend and I found ourselves craving pizza and came to Wood Fire on a Friday evening. We arrived right as the restaurant was opening for dinner, which was great for us because there was no wait. We chatted with Peter, the owner and pizzaolo, while we decided on what to order. We had the Fine Pie, with artichoke hearts, sausage and other yummies on it. We also did a carte blanche pie, letting Peter choose for us. That was absolutely the best decision, as the carte blanche pie we had was out of this world delicious. It was basically a white pizza with pancetta, arugula and shaved parm. So good. I can't recommend this place enough. There's no pretension, no swanky atmosphere... Just a nice, cozy little cafe with good wine and fantastic pizza.

Too pricey given thinness of crust (not filling). Also the wait staff needs to watch the hygiene. We saw our waitress touch her hair and then touch our pizza. But the beer selection looks nice, and the place has a nice ambiance. Maybe go for a beer and a fancy snack?

If you're looking for squeaky clean corporate service, and meals out in seconds this place isn't for you. This place is run by real people and they make real food. The owner Peter is doing absurd things as far as restaurants go. He's making his own cheese. Buys highest quality ingredients. Uses an exclusive tomato strain Uses filtered water. Hand made his oven. Sells good beer and wine. How he's in business I have no Idea. Restaurants of this quality do not charge what he's charging. Food of this quality runs around 3 figures a plate. His profit margin must be minimal. For sure they take a hit on thirsty thursday. $12 all you can drink craft beers is UNHEARD OF They are giving away food. Pizza this good, made by a madman is not to be missed. I had the Sette Formagio You can really taste the freshness and richness of the cheese here. I can't wait to go again. Pizza so good I feel unworthy

The pizza was very good and the service started out fine. However, nearly an hr later we just asked to take our food to go since we did not want to wait any longer. We contemplated walking out. It seemed that the to go orders went out faster then the food for the people actually sitting in the restaurant. As soon is we asked our pizza to go they finally threw it in the oven. Had the waitress just came by and said it was taking longer etc... And sorry we probably would have waited. Not once did she mention the delay or apologize. I then asked if it normally took this long to get food and she had some attitude and responded, mentioning something about to go food blah blah. It seemed as if I was lucky to be eating there. Again no apology. Good pizza, poor service.

I come to Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar every time I come to Tampa! What's not to love? From great pizza to tasty wines, this place has it all. One of the many things I love is that they let me taste the wines so I know I'll enjoy my glass. I also like their salads and appetizers. Last night I had the bacon jam wedges, wild and delicious! Like the waitress said, a bit BBQ tasting.

This place is the bomb and Pete rocks! After 3 visits in as many weeks (the last one with 6 fellow pizza lovers), take it from this native New Yorker: When in Tampa, you absolutely must stop by. (Yeah, even Ariel was impressed. And my man Rick loved it too.) Pete is a no-holds-barred pizzaficiando who is obsessed with authenticity and quality. The flour is from Italy, the mozzaralla house-made and the tomatoes...San Marzano, of course. Sophia and Raquel peer down at you from their photos on the walls while you eat their namesake pies. Oh...and you have to try the Rosa. Unique and unusual in a delicious way: rosemary, ground pistachio nuts, EVOO. Mmmm, mmmm good! Next time I'm in town I will be back for sure. And, as Mrs. Clemenza, said: Don't forget the cannoli! (If you're not stuffed.) Bravissimo!

OK, I came back and the personality issues mentioned before were much improved. Chalk it up to the Holidays being rough, or USF business drying up during Winter break or whatever. I'm just glad it's now pleasant as well as delicious.

This place is the real deal. I have been twice since I found it a couple weeks ago..once with a friend, once with my girlfriend. The pizza is great and there is a reason for that--the owner does not cut corners! You can be sure that your pie is made from the freshest ingredients--San Marzano tomatoes, organic herbs, homemade mozzarella. I have had 3 of their pizza's the Raquel(their signature pie), The Carnivore, and the Icarusi. All of these pies were great. The Raquel is a perfect example of what pizza is supposed to be! If you are looking for pasta--too bad. This place focuses on having the best wood fired pizza. There is passion and heart in this pizza restaurant, that is for sure.

Wood Fired Pizza is the real deal. I drive from St. Petersburg about once a month just to have this amazing pizza. The chef/owner, Peter, even makes his own cheese! He is that thoughtful into everything he prepares. He is also a great guy. Eating this pizza is an experience because it compares to nothing you have ever tasted...unless you have been to Italy, or Lombardi's in NYC. This pizza is better than any pizza in Florida (and this includes Miami).

We're in Tampa on vacation. We decided to try Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar. Great choice! Our waiter,Michael, was very friendly and helpful. He told us that WFP makes the dough fresh everyday. They make their own cheese (who knew you could do that?). The vegetables are super fresh, too. All grown hydroponically. We started our meal with the Mediterranean garlic wedges- WFP's version of garlic bread. Oh my goodness, it was so good we wished we had ordered it as our entree. The caprese salad is also delicious! Then the pizzas came. We each got individual sized pizzas - pepperoni, pistachio and the raquel. All very different and delicious in their own way. I had the raquel and we added slivered garlic to it. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing! We're only in Tampa for 3 more days and I'm pretty sure we'll be going back.

Two words: Pistachio Pie. Although every pizza the master pizzaiolo, Peter, makes is delicious, the Pistachio Pie is truly brilliant. But please, don't take my word for it, try it for yourself and see. I recommend going on Thirsty Thursdays when it's all you can drink drafts for $12. What's a good pizza pie if you don't have a great beer to go with it? This place is stocked with a fantastic draft selection of craft brews and even better bottles. Check it out - you won't regret it.

Ordered pizza from this place one evening and sent my husband and his friend to pick it up. When they returned, they thought it was kinda funny that they just paid $45 for pizza. It would have been funny to me if the pizza tasted good, but sadly I think the pizza was burnt and bland, not to mention EXTREMELY overpriced. We will not be returning.

My girlfriend and I were driving by and decided to check out wood fired's pizza. We were very disappointed with our experience. There were to other tables occupied when we arrived, yet service was so slow we contemplated walking out. It took literally 25 mins to place our drink order. After waiting 45 mins for one small lackluster pizza, this will be our last time there.

I seldom update reviews, but felt compelled because there was such a change in quality and service that I felt kinda guilty about possibly misleading readers. On a Friday eve we went to celebrate a birthday. he place was packed, but we sat at the bar and enjoyed good wine and service while yawning over the Olympic curling finals (an Olympic sport?). When the table was ready we were seated and then waited and waited and waited... When the waiter finally appeared there was nothing in his manner to indicate that he knew he was running behind; instead he lectured us for five minutes about how we needed to get our orders in or the pizza oven would be past capacity and then well, he just didn't know what would happen. OK, about on par with the curling. So in went our orders and after a while out came... undercooked pizza. Yeah, guess the pizza over was overworked. Soggy crust and a hint of toppings. Wow, what a change. Where did the crisp crust, loaded with wonderful flavors go? The way of the housing market it appears. Anyway, since we were celebrating a birthday and had our own cake we asked if we could have it in lieu of their less-than-memorable desserts. Sure, for $10. Og, give me a break! So off to Starbucks, where they gladly provided all the trappings (knife, forks, etc.) and we enjoyed the cake and let memories of Wood Fired Pizza go up in little wisps of smoke...

If there was a way to rate this establishment with NO stars I would do so!! I am from New Jersey and have never been treated SO RUDELY!! Not even in New York!!!!! Ordered 2 pizzas by phone and was told 15- 20. ( Sounds right- ok) Arrived to pick up pizzas and not only were we NOT greeted or acknowledged, but then rudely told that the time would now be 35 - 45 mins starting NOW!! REALLY!! Guess she really felt they didn't need my business because she NEVER said the words "I'm sorry" or "Our bad" UN-Real!! SO WE WENT TO THE LODGE AND HAD OUR PIZZA IN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES!!!!!!

Went here for lunch recently with my wife, I was thrilled after reading reveiws on chowhound. We ordered the Raquel basically a margherita, I thought it was an excelent example of pizza. It had a crisp thin crust with the right amount of char, clean fresh sauce, simple and delicious. My wife thinks it needed stronger flavors and the owner recomended we order one of his specialty pizzas next time with eigther pesto or pistahios. The service was a little slow even though there were only two other table filled, overheard the waiter griping about insurance so who can blame him for not being completly with it.

Very good WOOD oven pizza and I highlighted wood because this make all the difference. Additional to this, any difference with another other family owned pizzeria. However, I have to mention they had a very good version of a vegetarian pizza tha was delicious and made our day at this evening dinner

My boyfriend and I came here. It was amazing! Its small, but modern and is really delicious! It is pretty reasonably priced and has delicious beers! The place is awesome because you watch them make your dough and cook in the huge oven- basically in the middle of the restaurant. We got a lot of food and a couple beers each and the meal was less than $45 including tip. I love this place and cant wait to go back... we need more places like this in Tampa. My only complaint, and in saying this I realize I might tick off some parents, is the kids in the restaurant. Because it is such a small restaurant the large group of children is what made me rate it 4 stars instead of 5. They were loud and obnoxious and spilt drinks and started arguments with their parents. I would not say this is a good place for kids and it should be saved for date nights or out with friends.

Peter's place is fantastic! I am so happy for their success. He took a love and passion for making pizzas and turned it into a thriving business. I consider myself a foodie and a true pizza lover- and wood fired is by far some of the best pizza in town. Ever since they opened my husband and I no longer get our pizza anywhere else. If you enjoy and can appreciate a gourmet pizza, try Wood fired. Fresh ingredients, great flavor.

Amazing pizza! You won't find better gourmet pizza in this area. This is a metropolitan restaurant without having to leave the suburbs. I live in SF, and it beats our Naples best! I threw a Birthday dinner here for 20 people. They were very accommodating and helped me plan a menu prior to the event so timing and order weren't a problem. Good wine list, and a fabulous manager and owner. This is a gourmet experience.

I am from NY and grew up on NY pizza. My favorite restaurant is Grimaldi's just on the other side of the water in Brooklyn. This restaurant may soon bump itself to the top of my list. The pizza is the quality of Grimaldi's, but with many unique combinations of flavor. I would never think to put pistacios and onions together on a pizza, but wow. That is all I can say...wow. We found this place on Urban Spoon and decided to give it a shot. So glad we did. Now...if we can only convince the nice couple that owns the place to open one up in South Tampa! Fingers crossed!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
