Waffle House is probably best known in my book for its egregiously done waffles with its subpar diner offerings. I didn't think I would step inside another one of these until I found myself agreeing to give it another go. The conditions were right and set into motion. After our stent at the Pourhouse and increasingly unavoidable post-cerveza hunger, our friendly taxi drop off was met by a cheery-eyed waitress. Thus began our 2am feast. Some pecan waffles and a hot chocolate later, I was satiated and completely entertained by our waitress's newfound attempts of creatively topping her own waffle. As far as late night meals for the area, the Waffle House redeemed itself and I've survived through the night to tell the tale.

This was the dirtiest Waffle House I have ever visited! There was food all over the floor. I sat at the bar and there were crumbs all per the place and the waitress was going to serve me with the filth in front of me. I had to ask her to clean the table. The ceiling was filthy also. Dirt and dust everywhere...disgusting My hash browns were burnt and the waffles was so thin I thought I had a crepe. The staff was more worried about their phones than customer service. Not the WH standard I am familiar with! Will NEVER go back here.

We arrived at 4:15 am on a Sunday morning. It was busy but not slammed. We sat at a table and waited 10 minutes for service. The table was never wiped down. We requested a wet rag & the server brought us one and set it on the table. WE CLEANED OUR OWN TABLE!!! It took another 20 minutes to get our drink & food order which was taken at the same time. We were served our drinks in kid cups bc all the regular cups were dirty. Our order didn't come our right & the blueberry pancakes taste like cough syrup & were doughy in the middle. The place was filthy. The service sucked. I've never had this issue here before but this was more than enough to end my visits. At the end of our meal we finally got normal sized cups that were still dirty & had things floating in it. Never again!

The staff here is awesome. You know what to expect for food at a waffle house but you don't always get great service. I forget the waiters name but he would make anyones day!

Amazing experience, this was my 1st time ever going to a Waffle House, and I am already planning to become a regular. The service was amazing, it was very speedy and my waiter was phenomenal, the food was out of this world, all of it was very well made and flavorful. The environment was also very memorable as well :) I loved everything about it :)

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. I'm always excited to go here then I get here and realize I must have really low/bizarre standards. I'll say for sure that the service is quick and friendly, and the food is okay (I def didn't order grits but was given them anyway. Is that standard?). The place itself is kind of a mess, but it's Waffle House and you have got to know what you're getting yourself into. On another note, I don't know how we managed to rack up $20 before tip for two breakfasts of waffles, eggs, (unrequited) grits and a drink. Whaaaa? There was someone throwing up quite loudly in the bathroom when we got up to leave. I'm gonna give WH the benefit of the doubt and say maybe he was just hungover. Thanks Waffle House for reminding me I stay in on weekends nowadays.

Favorite place for weekend breakfast. Incredible service from everyone, especially Larry. The vibe is friendly and casual.

Just picked up some carry-out "Texas" Biscuits n gravy & an order of "Real" Hashbrowns, which waffle house claims to be the World Leader of serving, apparently the continental US wasnt enough 4 these browns, goody goody. Texas could take a dump on a soggy loaf of bread & end up w/ better skits n gravy. Oh, "sausage" gravy they claim - tasted more like someone farted in a bowl of unscented lotion. As the self proclaimed "World Leader of Real Hashbrowns", I award u no points & may god have mercy on your soul. They made me feel sad as I ate them & attempted to imagine wat the true World Hashbrown Leader's h-browns would be like n my mouth.... In summary, I think next time i'll go poop on some wet bread & cry n a corner for breakfast.

Going late at night can make you feel a bit nervous here, since your back is nearly right to the front door if you're sitting at the bar, and it's not in the greatest area, although certainly not as bad as the Fowler location. In any case, cleanliness is not the strong point here, so if a little grit and grime bothers you, maybe better to keep driving; you've got anything from mold or dirt around the air vents, eggs stored above the grill, pretty much dirt around the chairs, floor, walls, etc. lol. Anyway, food, service and price are fantastic; the servers and cooks are all friendly, very responsive and the food comes out fast and fresh.

Excellent Waffle House right near the airport. I stopped in before a flight out of Tampa. Great breakfast very friendly staff and efficient service. I cant believe how nice the staff is.

First time to a Waffle House ever! I must say, it was a very good experience. Nothing fancy, but the wait staff was very nice and the food was good and the prices were very reasonable. I would prefer this place over Denny's or IHOP. This particular Waffle House is small, but again the people working there were nice and the food was good. It's not gourmet, but they never say they were either. I will be back next time in town.

  • Joey S.

one of the best places to get some cheap breakfast. You don't sacrifice quality at all for your meal. rather than IHOP, I would definitely go here for breakfast at all times. their menu prices are nice, and their food is even better.

    (4)
  • Dave C.

You know, I've been to this place twice and both times they amazed me with the friendliness, fast service and overall quality and taste of the food. This is a great in-and-out breakfast chain if you want to avoid the Denny's on the world (and the discomfort that trails 30 minutes later)

NICE WAFFLE HOUSE We've been to a few Waffle Houses over the years and this is one of the best, and busiest. I had a pecan waffle with bacon, and it was just dandy. What's not to like?

Why 4 stars? Because I was pleasantly surprised with my first trip ever to Waffle House! --- --- --- Let me start off by airing out a pet peeve: I don't understand why people review huge, national chain businesses. I have to tell you - every single Starbucks is the same place. No person in the history of Earth has ever craved a trip to McDonald's, but thought, "let me check the Yelp reviews first." And penning this statement, "ugh, the customer service is so awful at *THIS* Taco Bell," translates to: "the 19 year olds working on the particular Friday night I visited did not possess as much courtesy as the 19 year olds working at the other location I visited 17 days prior." That being said, Waffle House is different, at least for me. For the almost 31 years I've been on this Earth, I did not visit a Waffle House until July 4, 2015. Because I'm hilarious, I decided that my first visit should be on the night I got engaged. But because of those odd circumstances, I feel like my experience should be documented. Plus, Waffle House is like the PBR of diners, right? It was so un-cool, that it became cool? The overall summary? I've heard that Waffle House is a disgusting place that's only tolerable at 3am when you're hammered. I must disagree with that narrative. I was damn-near tempted to rate Waffle House 5-stars. Everything was phenomenal, and of course, c-h-e-a-p! -I never heard the phrase, "scattered, smothered, and covered" before, but you better believe I won't forget it. That's how you order hash browns at Waffle House, if you're cool. They were top notch! -And of course, I had to order a freaking waffle, while I'm at Waffle House. I went with the pecan, and it was great. They even have the Waffle House logo built in to the griddle so that the the logo is actually on your waffle. Branding, yo! -Every surface in the restaurant felt like it had at least a 3% level of stickiness. Years of syrup molecules just floating through the air will do that to ya. -And finally, the people watching was about as you'd expect. Between the employees and fellow patrons, we definitely paid for dinner and a show. I'd have a tough time choosing between the meal and the entertainment if I was only able to pick one. My pledge to you, the Yelp community, is that this will be the only time I ever review a Waffle House. If I ever return to another Waffle House, it'll be my little secret.

First trip to the Waffle House in years. We used to frequent the Waffle House in Tallahassee after our evenings at the club, partially because it was one of the only places still open late but also because the food was so cheap. Well this visit to the Waffle House was a revelation for me because it is no longer the cheap place to get breakfast. Meals here are now almost $10. It didn't stop the place from being full though when I visited early morning on a weekday. Fortunately I was there to redeem a birthday freebie. I ordered the traditional waffle and it was just like I remember. Food at the Waffle House is nothing special. Its inexpensive quick service diner food but it's just not so inexpensive anymore yet the quality hasn't increased with the price. For the prices they are charging I can get a much better quality meal at another restaurant. This location was recently rebuilt and is very clean and well maintained.

A CLEAN Waffle House! I've NEVER been in a clean Waffle House before. 5 stars. Done.

I'm pretty sure Waffle House gave me the shits, and that's okay. Clearly, I was asking for it. You know, in some countries, like Japan for instance, car accidents are never less than 10% your fault BECAUSE YOU WERE THERE. Same rule applies here. I could have easily gone down the road to my favorite late night haunt and seen my homegirl Patsy, but nooooo. Let's not go to Pop N' Sons. Let's go to the "new" Waffle House instead. "It'll be fun," they said. And it was, until it wasn't. The bacon, egg and cheese melt with hash browns and onions was on point. I ordered a waffle too. It only seemed right, given the name of the joint. It too was freaking delicious. Service was good as well, despite one of the servers jackin' my waffle because she thought it was for her table. "I'm sorry sir, I took your waffle cause I thought it was mines." True story. At the time, everything was hot and tasty. No complaints. The next morning though...

It's Waffle House, what do you want? This is not where to go for gourmet food, but you can always rely on WH for delivering a certain quality of food, very quickly, and in a familiar setting. I love being able to have breakfast food at any time of the day. I've never tried anything but breakfast food at WH. I love their country ham with grits and a couple eggs over easy. Yum.

  • Jim C.

There are 1,764 WH locations in 25 states along highways and Interstates mostly in the South. This is Store # 42 so that tells you the roots of this store. The store was recently razed and built back exactly the same dimensions except all brand new throughout. WH is a Southern tradition, a small Main Street diner like as was in the '50's in small towns - counter bar seating and kitchen behind. Always a jukebox. Open 24/7 and 365, never closes. I ordered a chicken sandwich. Bigger slab of chicken and smaller bun than Chick-fil-A ( it was created by the same man who started Chick-fil-A). Good sandwich and good value. The prime attractions here are the patty melts, waffles and hash browns. The hash browns come in many ways: Standard - cooked in a steel ring Smothered - onions Covered - cheese Chunked - ham Diced - tomatoes Peppered - jalapeño Capped - mushrooms Topped - chili Country - sausage All the way - everything So you have to try it for breakfast, lunch or at 2 am when it gets really lively.

I have eaten at this location before and after the rebuild. The food is okay. The hospitality is great. I come here because my husband is a waffle house fanatic! I don't necessary like the location but if it makes him happy, my husband, I will sacrifice. :-)

"You like 'Awful House?'" That's the reaction I sometimes get when I tell people I am coming here. Yes. I like Waffle House. Indeed, I love Waffle House: the cheery interior, the warm welcome, the fantastic Hash-Browns... This location gets a bit crowded on weekend mornings, because apparently A LOT of people like Waffle House. Since the rebuild of this location, they have really beefed up the staff -- it was jammed back there. Service was quick and friendly (Robert was my waiter), my food was made swiftly and to my liking, and the price can't be beat. A superb slice of Americana that I hope to enjoy for many years.

All my life I'd thought that delicious brunches were restricted to the upper echelons, necessitating perfectly poached eggs, house-made breads, and fancy flavored pancakes garnished with powdered sugar. I've been to several brunch places before, and I've previously only liked the fancier places. (Yes you may call me a spoiled San Franciscan.) Everywhere else seemed too greasy, too commonplace, too hefty, too premade. Waffle House defies this. I got the grilled chicken & eggs (~$10) and I finished all of it, along with a 1/4 piece of a waffle (don't judge P:) - Scrambled eggs: fluffy and almost melt in your mouth - Grilled chicken: satisfying, exactly what you expect, with smokey hints - Hash browns: not the scraps of potato mushed together, compressed in a machine, and deep-fried--instead, you get to enjoy the soft, thinly cut strips of peppery potato that are loosely assembled, topped with a coating that has a nice golden crunch - Jalapeno cheddar muffin: I tend to be skeptical of chain restaurants getting too creative, but this was delicious, like pepperjack cheese infused right into a buttery, crunchy muffin. - Waffle: thinner than average, which made it even tastier The ambiance is cozy and diner-like; eating here with my friends felt like a family meal :') The booth was a little bit tight on space, but it made a great last meal in Tampa. Service was friendly, with a waitress that was very motherly and kind. Tip: It's not on the online menu, but they also have amazing $5 deals! Personally I wouldn't recommend it though, because there's too much good food here to restrict yourself to meager portions P:

This place is amazing! This is my first time experiencing the greatness that is wafflehouse. Larry was very very funny and friendly! The rest of the staff were great as well. They have a lot people working the kitchen area but it seems like they all know what to do without running into each other. Its a well run machine!!! Food was amazing too.

Waffle House, where you get dinner and a show! Hands down the best southern quick stop/ hole in the wall place for consistent, inexpensive food. Right next to the airport, West Shore Mall, and lots of hotels. Parking lot is small and can fill up quickly.

Music is too loud and customer service from our server was subpar. We were here for a quick breakfast before family left town. WH is already a loud restaurant -- which is fine -- but the speakers were turned up unreasonably loud. We could not hear each other talk over the music. We politely asked our server Berta if they could be turned down just a little bit. She replied "No, we like it this loud." We then asked her again, thinking she was joking. She told us the jukebox company controls the restaurant speaker volume, and there is nothing they can do. I find that very hard to believe, but regardless Berta's lack of professionalism and customer service is the reason I am posting a low rating. There is always a polite way to talk with customers, even if your answer to them is "no". Unfortunately I won't be coming back here

    (1)
  • Kelley E.

Staff was loud in an already noisy place. Plus they kept using the jukebox and we couldn't hear ourselves. Waitress agreed she couldn't hear us but said she couldn't turn volume down....said it was through the jukebox controls. Berta. The music came through the ceiling speakers.

This review applies to all the Waffle Houses. The city may be different but the entertainment value is always there. Waffle House is your basic inexpensive greasy spoon and I mean that in the most loving way. I believe if Bob Seager knew about Waffle House the song "Turn the Page" would have never been written. First the food, it is decent and cheap. They have great waffles. The have a deal for about $6 that is every breakfast food on a giant platter. Enough for two people to share. They have a potato thing (hash browns) that cost about 85 cents and they do every imaginable thing to those potatoes. All the food is good filling and cheap. But I go to Waffle House for the entertainment. As a traveling sales person, I spent a lot of time on the road and it can get boring and tiring. So I know that something will happen at Waffle House. Last time I traveled I was home sick and the waitress and I shared photos of our families and one of the girls who worked there went to my car and visiting with my two dogs. Time before that a bird got in the restaurant and was flying around. Someone screamed, "There's a bird," and just like in the movies everyone screamed and ducked, Then the poor little guy hit one glass window, a second glass window, and after the third landed on a man's table. I put my jacket over him and placed him on the trunk of my car. He came to and flew off. Another time a family was doing some kind of an intervention, they were either trying to get a kid off drugs or into college-not sure which. Another time a drunk was explaining philosophy to me. My favorite time was when the cook and waitress had a fight and were throwing things at each other. This place is never boring, it can be so entertaining, it feels like home, and a good way to just hang out. People are friendly there.

What I expect from WH. . . fast, friendly and fun. What I got? slow, sloppy, and stressful. Not properly staffed with one cook. Cleanliness does not live here. Order. . .WRONG!! And to top it off, not one "sweetie, honey, or sugar." Do yourself a favor and skip this one kids

I actually really liked this place! We ordered breakfast take out and I had the poached eggs, hash browns and cinnamon toast with apple butter. I also had a waffle with peanut butter and chocolate on it. The eggs hash brown and toast were perfection! The waffle was a little sweet for me and would be better for kids. My husband had the pecan waffle and that was superb and less sweet. If in the area again I will be back!!

We walked in and sat down for two minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Tables were dirty. Two employees chatting with customers about cell phone service. If I could rate it minus 5 stars I would. We finally left and nothing was said.

I live in Los Angeles California and the waffle house it's always a destination that I frequent whenever I am in Tampa in this location specifically. When I checked into my hotel they informed me that the location just reopened only a couple of days ago I put entering the establishment I was greeted by a team of smiling faces and a fresh new location that had recently been remodeled due to freeway reconstruction. The staff was very nice my waitress was pleasant had a request for something to be sent back that was compared to my preference they corrected and gave me no problems with doing so upon my departure I asked the waitress if she could assist me with snapping a picture of my visit to the waffle house to show my friends back in California. Upon checking out the picture it was a pleasant humor is surprise to see the photo bombing from the whole entire staff how fun and a memory that I can have forever that gets lots of talk on my Facebook and Instagram

Probably the best Waffle house I've ever been to....and that is only because it was newer. The food was great even tho we got our order messed up. There were WAAAYYYY to many people working behind the counter for me but everyone was nice and polite so i wasn't trippin. I doubt we will go there again but the WH Sause...is sooooooo good...im gonna find that recipe!

Your standard Waffle House - same size, same good, same uniforms. I came here late at night. To my outsider's eyes, the area gets a little skeevy at night, but no problems. Had the Texas Cheesesteak Melt Plate with Hashbrowns covered, chunked, and topped as usual. Absolutely delicious and terrible for you, of course. Waitress was not very friendly, and never refilled our cups, and only visited when we were done to bring the check. Also no napkins on the table, and I had to get up and steal a container from another booth. This restaurant was doing steady business at the late hour of my visit, and is conveniently located in the Westshore. If I return to this area and am need of an ultra-late-night bite, Waffle House will be a strong contender, as it always is. For those of you who were not lucky enough to grow up in Waffle House's home reason, definitely give it a try. It is not the best restaurant in the world by any means, but it is a Southern institution for a reason.

I hate to give only 2 stars, but those 2 stars are based on service only. WH is my 'go to' breakfast spot all over the country when I am in need of a solid breakfast at a reasonable price. Since I over slept on vacation and missed the continental breakfast at the hotel, I knew that WH was my next best choice. Like most WHs, this location had adequate parking which was surprising to be so close to the I-275 on-ramp. We arrived on a mid-Saturday morning and anxiously stood in the doorway. The wait was not long even for a Saturday morning. We even passed up the booths close the bathroom and still waited no more than 10-15 minutes. As soon as a booth was free we happily sat down and waited for the thin paper napkins and worn (yet clean) silverware to be placed in front of us. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. The food came out quicker than expected. BUT... and this is where the rating drops, the food was not good. I ordered my classic Texas Cheesesteak. The onions that I requested to be on the sandwich were missing and the ones in the hashbrowns were uncooked (or barely touched the grill). Our table also included a T-Bone steak and Waffle, that I was told was good. But I was certainly disappointed with my choice of food. Generally, the waitress would have no problem with having the cook prepare it again, but I was too hungry for that. This meal was a 'means to an end', but was far from what I expect form my local WH.

Hello Friends, Waffle House is Waffle House. But, there is a difference. You have some good ones and you have some well.. not so much ones. This one is about 5 mins from Raymond James Stadium (you know.. the place where My Bucc's play) Great staff, fasssssst service (i think my food was on the table before i ordered it...lol) I'd come back. My waiter even took a pic with me and the "President"...

This is my go to Waffle House. I can always get a well cooked breakfast the first time it is served. Over easy eggs come out, over easy. What a concept most breakfast places can learn. Great omlettes here, and they make an omlette the way a waffle house omlette should be made. Don't pass up an all american film noir lunch: black coffee, a cheeseburger, hash browns and brooding over the next distaseful task while being distracted by the dame with the great stems that walked in to the joint... In all seriousness, the staff here is great, the place is clean, and this is a Waffle House thats way up on the curve compared to other places.

Eating anything in a waffle house, even if you have an iota of consciousness about being healthy, ,is disgusting. For a big giant yellow board and name of WAFFLE HOUSE, .they only have one item that has waffle. Most waffle houses smell, and people look tired, but with all that said, I think wherever they are, they sure are guilty pleasure for most!. I tend to eat there whenever I see them outside of california. (and feel bad after). They are open 24 hours, they have this menu card that is laminated with really mediocre picture that you woudlnt even want to order from, however, if you read the kind of stuff they would put on your hash browns, how could you not like them! this place was really small, but busy/packed as any other waffle house. Infact they had more people working the counter than the number of people that could fit in and eat there, which is pretty neat. the lady who waited us was nice. the coffee is ok. Egg tasted like egg yay!!! I sure will try it again when i see one wherever I go!!

It was close. We were hungry. Breakfast at the Marriott was $16. So, we came here in search of morning coffee and hot breakfast. Nice people. I actually liked the homey "greasy-spoon" diner atmosphere. The food was perfectly edible, but I can't recommend going there. Ready for this--there was no butter in the place, just margarine. At the "waffle house". Seriously?!

Waffle House, Oh Waffle House. As always I love the waffle house and this one is no exception. My fave part is the echo good morning. LOL. I think I giggled every time I heard it. One Team Member would say good morning and the others would echo right behind her. It was a pleasantly hilarious greeting in my book. I have yet to find a waffle house cook that understands Soft Scramble eggs, but besides that everything was par excellence for the old yellow and black. Yay, yat, yay...there is always a show at the waffle house. Final Comment: Go, Eat! Enjoy.

I walked in to have a chicken sandwich and coffee. It appears the servers were going through a shift change. I ended up calling out my own order to the cook. The new server that came in advised one of the patrons the coffee I had just been served (and starting drinking) was made hours ago, and she would make a fresh pot well knowing that was i was really pissed off. Two more patrons walked in, It was about seven more minutes before the new server got to them. One of them left as they did not want to wait maybe i should have follow as well. Anyway the other stayed, but also had to call out his own order to the cook. It was not a busy night. There were a total of 4 patrons when I paid my tab and left. I'm not a big fan of Waffle House anyway tobe honest its more of a place i go to get a bit after a night out clubbing.

This waffle house is in the absolute perfect location. I love that they're open around the clock and always just as friendly. I ate here alot when I couldn't decide what to eat in Tampa. They're clean, the staff is friendly and the portions never disappoint for the price. and if you're nice they'll even give you a second .50 oj refill ; ) who doesn't LOOOOVE Waffles and Fresh OJ.

Oh Waffle House, I have to visit one every time I pass into the eastern waffle zone and I have never been disappointed. Delicious breakfast every time! Friendliest people in the service industry. It's probably good we don't have them in Seattle because the novelty might wear off, but I love my sporadic visits through the year!

Incredibly, instead of getting worse, this Waffle House gets better and better every time I go. The customer service is always EXCELLENT and so is the food. One of the best Waffle Houses in the entire chain, I tell you. My 5 year old nephew begs me to take him there weekly!

Good food, but breakfast for two of us was $23.00 including the tip. This was for two waffles, two orders of hash browns with a couple of toppings and two cups of coffee. Seriously, if I wanted to drop $23 on breakfast, there are a ton of places I'd go to before WH. Mimi's for example... Yum!

If you haven't been to a waffle house you have to go. This is the only one near South Tampa and the food and waitress's are good and friendly. The best time to go is breakfast. Check out the jukebox for great waffle house songs. A Southern institution.

it's Waffle House, what do you expect when you go there? After a hangover this is a great way to get your day started. It is amazing to watch how the cooks get the orders right as the wait staff calls them in. I just wish they served bloody marys

I have eaten at scores of Waffle Houses from Austin, TX, to Paducah, KY, to Key West, FL. The point of this review isn't to describe Waffle House - if you know it, you know it. In 25 plus years of eating at them all over the southeastern U.S., this was the hands down best one to which I've been. If you are in Tampa craving the Awful Waffle after the bars shut down and wondering which to pick, pick this one.

Food is so-so. My waitress actually cooked my meal which i found odd. I guess the actual cook was outside sweeping the parking lot or something. The price works with the service u recieve. Apparently... with my interaction with the waitress...they are now all aware that the can process AMEX transactions.

The Waffle House is one of the biggest guilty pleasures in my life. I dream of the blended smell of Coffee, Charred Meat, and Waffle Dough smacking me in the face when I walk in the door. I do not have a Waffle House within 200 miles of my home, but every time I travel, I always go on line to see if there is a Waffle House in the area. This eatery is the Grease bomb of all time. There is not one thing on the menu that is even close to being healthy for you. Even the water is fattening. But it is as delicious as any chain restaurant (Denny's, Big Boy Etc.) out there. There are a few things that you need to know before you pay the Waffle House a visit. First of all there is a lingo to be used when ordering your Hash Browns. Smothered is with Gravy, covered is with Cheese, etc. Second off, do not give the waitresses any guff. For the most part all of the servers that I have dealt with have been wonderful, but I have seen a few of them just rip into smart ass customers. These are tough women who work hard at what they do, so be nice to them, and they will be nice to you. So if you are a city slicker like me, but enjoy a small town, home style, diner, give the Waffle House a try. It is a wonderful piece of small town Americana just off the turnpike.

The atmosphere was very nice but it was a little loud. They have a big selection of waffles and other breakfast items. The peanut butter waffles were very good (FOR A WAFFLE HOUSE). Overall it was very good for a Waffle House I mean it was actually CLEAN
