First, set your expectations. This isn't fine dining. This is a good, neighborhood Mexican restaurant. The molcajete is by far the best thing they make. I highly recommend it. This dish feeds my family of three with enough to take home for another meal for one (or a great omelette). My wife loves the "medium Texas margarita on the rocks with salt" and she's a tough customer when it comes to margs. My daughter can't survive without the "cheese dip." I've never been disappointed here. And while the service can range some days from attentive to slightly slow, the people are always friendly and we are always satisfied. We've been to Vallarta's dozens and dozens of times and are happy regulars.

Best Mexican I've had in a long time. Plus stronger than typical margaritas. The guacamole texacano is a must try!

I'm not a huge fan of Mexican because every dish seems to have the same flavors and basic ingredients. But every now and then I need to have the Chorizo Fundido and salsa. To me that is the essence of the Mexican flavors that I do like, not being a big fan of rice or beans. Their guacamole is OK too. Sometimes I would get a Quesadilla but usually it's too big to finish. Not a buffet fan, so I can't comment on that, but others seem to like it.

This restaurant is convenient, and the food is cheap. Unfortunately the food is greasy and bad, and the service is terrible. We waited for more than 45 minutes for our order which from the exasperated look of some of our fellow patrons was about par for the course. I think that this place is always crowded not because they're popular, but because it takes so long to get your food. As hungry as we were, the food was NOT worth the wait. We should have known by the flourescent tennis-ball-green fake 'guacamole' and cut our losses. By then we feeling were too apathetic. The fajitas were tough and leathery, the vegetables greasy and bland. The rice and accompanying beans tasted like either a frozen mexican TV dinner, or the inside of a can, I couldn't decide which. The only thing this place has going for it is that it's not the worst Mexican restaurant in town, but very close.

Vallarta's is one of my favorite restaurants, and absolutely the best Mexican restaurant in the Tampa area. I have been going for several years & never been disappointed. I usually order the beef tacos & can hardly hold them because they have so much meat in them. Now for the margaritas....2 for 1 during happy hour, for starters. These are the kind that don't rely on margarita "mix" so they aren't tart. They are just right.

Ordered take out. Steak burritos were pretty bare- just meat. Refried beans with tacos that worked their dark digestive magic until late the next day. Steak avocado burrito was good. Would order again but request black beans.

I'm perpetually on the search for a great Mexican joint, so I was happy when I moved to Tampa's Carrollwood area to find Vallarta's so close by. Unfortunately, the food is a bummer. My boyfriend and I gave this restaurant 4 or 5 chances, trying something different each time. We even went once for their weekday lunch buffet. The service isn't that great, as it seems that they don't employ enough waitstaff to cover all the tables. If you're sat in the back area, you may be forgotten (as previous reviewer Pablo C. was). The food isn't very flavorful, sadly greasy and not very fresh-tasting. My Mexican quest will continue... just not back to Vallarta's.

Ok first let me come off and say, Vallartas the restaurant chain is probably awesome. Their food isn't that bad at all. I've eaten better, but its still good food. This location however, wasn't the best. So the lady and I go on a Saturday night around 8. We walk in and the woman at the counter just kind of looks at us. We say table for 2 and she looks around and eventually finds us a spot in a really secluded, horribly lit far side of the restaurant with no music, nothing. Just a few other guests looking miserable. Then we wait and eventually our 'waiter' walks up and just kind of stares at us. I checked and had nothing on my face, I mean, I'm not an ugly dude or anything, he was just really bad at his job. I tell him a water and a coke and then our order. Not only was our food wrong the man didn't show back up until at least 20 minutes later when I had to flag him down, and I HATE doing that. After doing a bit of complaining to him, not only us but the customers around us as well, we left very unsatisfied with the horrible service. The food was your average Mexican fare of nachos, burritos, and combination platters. It was a bit cold though but the quality of the FOOD was adequate.

Having lived in Arizona, I'm always looking for good Mexican food. This place is not even close, the food was mediocre at best and the service plain out sucked. We were seated quickly, but that is where the service ended....it took way to long for someone to come over and take our drink order. Then the order never came, had to find the hostess...then no one came to get our order, again had to get the hostess. It just goes on...we're never going back to this place. There is another Vallarta's up the road I will try to see if it is any bette...

Yeah, I go here for lunch sometimes. It's good chow and the price is a good bargain. I used to go to Rio Bravos and get a pitcher of Margaritas but you could never taste the good stuff. You can taste the good stuff at Villartas baby! Make sure you have a DD! Lunch time has a buffet and it's a quick get in and out. I will continue to make Vallartas a pit stop between missions.

If you're a fan of Mexican food, you can't go wrong with Vallartas. I've never been to Mexico myself, but the restaurant's ambience does give off a feeling of authenticity. As soon as you're seated, you're provided chips and salsa. The salsa is a little watery for my taste but it's still pretty good. My girlfriend and I typically order a side order of guacamole right off the bat. I highly recommend the guacamole. It's not too mushy and has a great avocado taste with a hint of lime. This is by far not limited to just the chips either as this guacamole serves as a welcome side for any of the dishes on the menu. The menu features several items which you can put together in pretty much any combination you want. For example, my personal favorite is the single enchilada, tostada and crunchy taco. Don't understand what you're reading? The back of the menu gives translations and definitions for several of the menu items. How else would you know if you wanted to get a Tostaguac? From what I've seen on Friday nights, there is a little wait ahead if you're arriving around 7:00 PM. They've got a bar with decent seating while you wait, but I've typically had to grab my drinks and stand around waiting to be called for my table. For margarita lovers, you won't be disappointed with the large drinks. If you want yours frozen, they have machines for that as well. Typically for 2 people, you're looking at around $30-35 if you add a few drinks in the mix. Top notch for sit down Mexican dining. Highly recommended.

My favorite Mexican in Tampa. Having grown up in Southern California, their Carne Asada tacos are the closest I've found to a taqueria I've found here.

I used to really like this place when I lived in Tampa. Both locations were pretty good, although the one on 56th is a lot nicer (note that I didn't say cleaner). However, since I've been living in Chicago for the past few years, I've been exposed to Mexican food which is way, way better than what Vallarta's serves to the poor schmucks in Tampa who, for the most part, don't know any better. They can now commence laughing at my inability to get really good Cuban food. My favorite dish used to be Burritos Guadalajara, which I ordered for old-times' sake. For those who have never had this (and I've never seen this anywhere else, which is probably a good thing) it is essentially deep fried burritos covered in melted cheese. It was heart-stopping, greasy, and somewhat tasty, sure- but it didn't leave me with the thought that it was all worth it. Plus, the guacamole they served with the "salad" was really nasty. If it's not sour cream they're using to stretch the avocados, it's mayonnaise- cheapskates!

I Love Vallartas!!!! The food is amazing and the service is quick. They have to be quick because there are always a lot of people coming. You get chips/salsa right when your seated.. Try the queso fundido (cheese sauce) It is soooooo good!! I also like the Pollo Fundido, you get a big piece of grilled chicken smothered in the cheese sauce, Mexican rice, and a salad with guacamole. I end up getting a doggie bag and eating the rest later that night. You cannot beat the prices. Took my family from Oahu here and they LOVED it. Highly Recommend!!!

Vallartas is my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant in the Tampa area. This place has great food, with an equally great cost. I've going to the location at 56th and Busch for year now, and its always been great. And those margaritas...

This restaurant has some of the best Mexican food I have had in Tampa, Florida. The food tastes very authentic and comes close to the taste of California Mexican food, which still reigns supreme. The food is mildly pricey, but you can find a buffet on weekdays for lunch and also on Saturdays. The chis they provide are fantastic with the sauce they serve and their meals come fully equipped with all the extras you might want to add in most instances. My personal favorite is the Tacos De Carne Asada. You should definitely try it out and see if you like their unique Mexican food.

This mexican restaurant is the best one in town. I'll give you three reasons: - Great Service - Awesome Food Quality - 32 oz beers for $3.50 (my favorite) Check it out. They have multiple locations around town. There is one in Wesley Chapel, on Dale Mabrey, and on Anderson Rd.

This Vallartas is da bomb! Do not, I repeat do not go to the other Vallartas in town. Although they may be owned by the same owners, this one is by far different and better. I've been going to this place since 2003. And get this, I hated Mexican food before then. The only Mexican restaurant I go to is this place.

I'd like to say that we had a wonderful experience at Vallartas. We had a large party which couldn't get together until about a half hour before closing. We checked with the manager a couple of days before, and they agreed to take the party. The service was tremendous and the food awesome. They could not have been more hospitable.

Vallartas is the place to go if you want reasonably priced Mexican food in Tampa. Its as authentic as you can get without being in Mexico. The prices are reasonable, food is great, and its a fun atmosphere.

I LOVE VALLARTAS! My boyfriend and I go for our "date night". Vallartas is amazing... combined we have: two meals, two sides, and four drinks. The bill is always around $30. Who can ask for more? Incredible, authentic mexican food and CHEAP prices! We always sit at the bar to skip the wait (and to get our drinks faster -- we're lushes) :) If you go -- PLEASE try the chile poblano as a side - it's to die for!!

This is a good Mexican resteraunt. My favorite thing about mexican resteraunts is the queso. I love the queso at vallartas and the chips that accompany it. My favorite meal is the volcano dish that comes with various meats on hit volcano rock. The meat js cooked well and the sauce that is in the dish tastes cheesy and yummy. The atmosphere is fun and make me want to drink a margarita (if only i liked margaritas). The service is great as well. Good food, drinks, prices and service.

Tonight we ordered carne asada, nachos and chicken/steak fajitas. My husband got the half pitcher margarita but said it wasn't strong. The carne was a little overdone but tasted really good. The salsa and sauces were crazy spicy. I asked for mild salsa and they brought out a bowl of warm sauce?? Lol. The place was loaded with kids. I also brought my son but he was sleeping. I felt like I was in Gymboree. I really don't like that many kids running around and screaming. Despite all of this, I really enjoy this place. The food is good enough to give it 4 stars.

The food always isn't that bad and employees are friendly and fast. We always enjoy the 2 for 1 in beers and margaritas. But the only part that I have never like is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. So after my first visit I had never have use the bathroom there again.

Choosing this rating was difficult. I fell that though they don't quite warrant a 4 at this time, a 3 is a bit lacking. I would say a 3.75 would be about right. Now don't get me wrong, I really like Vallarta's but their food is a little too inconsistent. Each time I've gone there, some food is spot on and others not so much, and the next time the reverse, and so on. I probably go there 2-3 times a month, sometimes for the buffet, and sometimes for $1 tacos. The buffet is a good deal. Plenty to choose from, for about $10, including beef/chicken/cheese enchiladas, flautas, tamales, taco filling, fajita (beef and chicken) filling, tostada fixings, and a couple other mixtures, ready for a tortilla shell. There are also some mini chimichangas (though not fried) and 3 types of quesadillas, as well as some soup and queso dip for the chimichangas. There is also a cold toppings bar where you can top your food with shredded cheese (2 types), sour cream, guacamole, pica, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos, and more. There's even flan and churro bites to appease your sweet tooth. The food, for the most part is tasty, though sometimes too greasy and/bland. The flautas definitely are too greasy and will soak your napkin. The tamales are usually too dry, but when done right, a dream. The mushroom quesadillas are quite tasty, but sometimes lacking a decent amount of filling (and more than once, no filling). The wait staff is friendly, and usually attentive, but things can get confusing when it's busy. I have also eaten off the menu. Their Chilis Rellenos are so damn good, I could've eaten them all night. Perfectly seasoned and an ample portion. The $1 tacos are simply seasoned ground beef, shredded iceberg lettuce, and shredded American cheese. No frills, but a good flavor. Use some of the "salsa" from the complimentary chips and salsa, to add a little dimension. Vallarta's isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but what they do, they usually do well. I recommend the buffet first, to get a feel for them, but definitely try their menu. It has a nice variety.

Before moving to Tampa, I frequented Vallartas in Wesley Chapel almost every week. The dollar tacos are delicious and cheap.. who doesn't love that!? I was very happy to see there was another Vallartas in Carrollwood. Once you are seated, the server provides a basket of chips and salsa. Both are made in house and they're addicting! The only thing I've ever ordered from this location has been the tacos so that's all I can speak on. I've never been disappointed with the ground beef, but my boyfriend loves the chicken because it comes with peppers and onions. This location differs slightly from our former restaurant, in the fact that it has a buffet. We haven't had the chance to try it out yet, but I have seen that there are a few soups and yummy churros! I think this is one of those places where you get what you pay for. We go for dollar tacos, so we aren't expecting a five-star meal. The staff is always prompt and polite, the restaurant appears clean, and we leave happy.

The food was great! I felt like I was eating a home cooked Meal by grandma. I got the shrimp cocktail (shrimp, avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, onions... ) which was delicious and not to mention a huge serving that I had to take home. I ordered my 3 year old a taco, rice and beans everything was cooked perfectly and not overly masked with spices. We also got a tomale and an enchilada both were so flavorful. The food tasted very fresh.... It is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants I have had in Florida. The restaurant staff were very welcoming and friendly, as for place itself it could use an upgrade especially the tables. Other than that I plan to return with my family.

I really like this place, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. My only issue is that the food quality is inconsistent. There have been times when I savor every bite, and other times when it just seems average. I always get good service, and you really can't beat the price. It's a fun atmosphere as well. I also think the building needs some revamping, to give it a more modern appeal. Some of the furniture is broken, and it kind of brings the place down.

This is my 3rd visit to this location. They were packed on Saturday night. I gave them 3 stars last time and thought they were worthy of 4 stars this time. The food was better and the all you can eat chicken soup and salad is an extra special nice touch!

I wasn't sure if I should go there for lunch buffet, because some reviews here were negative, but good I went. The food was so yummy. OMG I'm still thinking about t and will definitely go there again. Food variety was good, everything was well cooked, tasted well, and I was lucky to get 2 margaritas for the price of one. The restaurant itself is very big, nicely decorated. Our 3 year old ate for free and we paid $10 for lunch buffet each. Buffet opens at 11a and lasts till 2pm. The only downside is that they close lunch at 2pm. I wish they finished lunch at least at 3pm. But in general I'm very happy I went there, going back there again for sure!

This was delicious! The best Mexican I have had in Florida since I moved from California. Love the authentic atmosphere and polite waitstaff. They even turned on the basketball game for my husband while we were there. All I can say is be prepared to say yummy!
Short and to the point on this one. It's just ok.. Food was not the best. You get lots of food for the price but I'd rather have quality over quantity maybe that's just me. Staff were nice but food was over priced. Place needs a makeover in a bad way. It's not the worst but you can find better.

Vallartas is one of my favorite restaurants for an easy weekday meal. The happy hour specials are great and there is a buffet but I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. There is usually a soccer game or ESPN playing in the background but the staff will change it if you ask. The best part about Vallartas is that you get unlimited chips and salsa as soon as you are seated. The salsa is homemade so sometimes it is much spicier than others. Make sure you get your drink before diving in because we have made this mistake more than once. You really can't beat dollar tacos! I think the ground beef tacos are too bland, but the shredded beef and chicken both come with peppers and onions and are much more flavorful. The cheese they use is unbelievable! I honestly wish they sold bags of it. My girlfriend always tells me how great the churro dessert plate is, but I haven't had it yet. Sounds delicious and I'd love to try the fried ice cream too. The only problem is we are so full from all of the chips and salsa that we're not even hungry for the tacos! My recommendation is don't go on the weekend and order the dollar tacos. You'll get more bang for your buck and better service.

Friendly staff unless you understand what they're saying. The staff speak amongst themselves in Spanish as if no one can understand what they say and without care of whom they may offend. A group of waiters were ogling girls (even minors) and making inappropriate comments without care of who may overhear them. One older female waitress realized I could understand her coworkers and made an apologetic, shameful expression toward us. On our way out, one of these waiters nudged another as if to say "look at her" while staring at my wife. I kept my cool and just told the guy in Spanish "you should try to be more discrete" he just stared like an idiot and as I walked out gave his best attempt at a tough-guy comment. I went back in and tried to do the right thing and speak to the owner, who was at the cash register too busy to notice anyone or anything around him. To cut a dragging story short, the owner never acknowledged me and the guy who made the idiot comments (who not surprisingly turns out to be the owner's son) kept staring every time he walked by taunting me, but with the look and stench of fear..... If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant and there are women in your party, go elsewhere.

Really good Mexican food is hard to find. It's typically hidden in holes in the wall most people wouldn't dare walk into. Only local knowledge can guide you there. Finding decent Mexican food in a "mainstream" restaurant is hard. Most ethnic food restaurants face the same challenge. The more "authentic" the experience, the more they risk narrowing their potential customer base. Spicy foods get watered down to appeal to a broader audience, etc. There's a couple of restaurants called "Vallartas" and I'm not sure about the story behinds the scenes, but this one is unlike the others. The menu is different, the ambiance is different, and the food is different. They too have made comprises to appeal to an American audience. But of all the local Mexican restaurants, this one is among the better ones. The meats are seasoned well, the beans are tasty, and the selection is very broad. Sundays they have a Mariachi band from 6-9. And let me tell you. Mexican food tastes better with a Mariachi band at your table. It's about the experience. If you think Taco Bell is Mexican, or that Pizza Hut is pizza, then don't bother coming here. You won't get it. But if you are looking for the whole package, ambiance, sounds and sights and smells and taste, I'd say this is 85% authentic. And that's a compliment. Like Taco Bell being 2% Mexican and Pizza Hut being 3% pizza. Service is competent but be prepared to wait during busy times. It's part of the experience. This is not Outback or Carrabas. Also, when you get your chips and salsa, ask the waitress for the "hot stuff". That's the stuff the cooks eat in the back. The sauce they give you with the chips is good, but it's the watered down version for the "gringos". The hot stuff will put hair on your chest. It's the real deal. This is nothing like the Vallartas on Anderson. If you've been there and been disappointed, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. This is as good as it gets. Order either the tacos or the quesadilla "al pastor" with seasoned pork, grilled onions and pineapple. Put some of the hot stuff on it and enjoy real Mexican food.

Mexican buffet. Period. My friend and I have been frequenting this Mexican spot for many years. We do it for the buffet. Oh, the buffet. So much cheese. So much food. It never disappoints. If I had to narrow it down even further, I'd say I come here for the white, milky cheese sauce. I've been to many Mexican spots, and nothing comes quite close to this cholesterol-laden gem. The lunch buffet is worth checking out. The menu food is, honestly, nothing special, and it's about on par with other "authentic Mexican" places in the Bay Area (La Hacienda, El Vallarta on Anderson, and Guadalajara off Hillsborough to name a few). But a Mexican restaurant with a lunch buffet? Uh, yes please. In summary, their food is of mediocre quality but definitely flavorful. Service has always been cordial, and all servers will definitely check on you (not just "yours"). At least, this had been my experience. Then again, I've been coming here for years... mostly for the cheese sauce, like I said. (A more specific rating on a scale of 1-5 would be around a 3.7.)

This is hands down my favorite Mexican American restaurant in the area. They have great Agua de Jamaica and an ongoing lunch buffet that brings people in by the droves. I saw a couple of groups enjoying a lively lunch, and enjoyed the decor, and laid back staff. Definitely delicious food, particularly the free chips and salsa. The buffet looked epic, with all sorts of goodness, my dad definitely approved. Will be back soon!

I ordered a combo number and received a different combo. The food was ok but nothing I would come back for. Our server was sweet but must have been brand new because she didn't know anything about the menu and didn't offer to go ask. She asked us the same questions as if she forgot she just talked to us and moved slowly.

The best of all the Vallartas. Decided to drop in for lunch today and how this place has grown. When we first moved here in 1999. This place was at least a once a week visit and when we moved to the north end we moved to the 2 northern most Vallartas in the tampa area. It was refreshing to come back where it all started and we were pleasantly surprised to see a menu that presented us with twice the variety of the other restaurant in the vallartas chain. They also have a weekend buffet that offered a huge variety of delicious Mexican fare. I think it's going be worth the extra driving miles to come back to our original Mexican dining digs.

I came here back in early January during my vacay with my man and will not be coming back. I spotted this place driving by one day and thought we should try it out. This is NOT an authentic Mexican restaurant and sorry to say it but the food was not of great quality and was quite nasty. Despite of the staff being courteous, the vibe there was just plain weird. They were just standing around waiting for people to either come in or be done with their food to clear up the table quickly. Maybe we went on a bad day but the odds of both of us feeling the same way about the food which was pretty gross, are pretty slim. That is all.

Waiter was less than enthusiastic, seemed downright bored really. The food I ordered likewise matched his personality. The chips and salsa were good. I had the shrimp al tequila and was very disappointed. This was our second choice since chipotle was closed. :/

Place smells like cigarettes. The food on the menu looks so shitty. Ordered carne asada tacos, they gave me some dry ass steak that taste like it was made 3 weeks ago. No cheese, no lettuce, no tomatoes, just meat... For $10. Who the fuck eats tacos with flour tortillas anyway? My mom ordered a burrito.... Arent burritos supposed to be closed? Follow me on instagram to see the pictures I took of this weak ass food... @DJDamnage

This was the single worst restaurant experience ever. Restaurant atmosphere: If you are going to have glass tabletops, what you look at through the glass should be clean. It wasn't. Not only was the table not clean but nothing else was very clean either. Many of the ceiling tiles looked to be ready to collapse onto the floor at any moment. The rest of them had significant staining which appeared to be from water damage. The return air vents were either covered with black as night dust or that was black mold (not really sure). One of the so called chefs were eating behind the pass. There were flies buzzing around the whole time. My five year old was smart enough to not eat the included salad bar after seeing flies on it. Food: chips and salsa. Chips were warm and crunchy and the salsa was fine. Nothing special but passable. The rest of the food was just plain gross. Period. I got the enchiladas supreme. Upon inspection of the dish there appeared to be water at the bottom of the plate. I tipped the plate into and empty salsa dish. The water almost completely filled the dish. The food was soggy and disgusting. The meat I tried from the enchilada had absolutely no flavor. Most if the others in my party also had no better luck. I took a bite of my wife's burrito and there was a hair in the meat. I returned my dish after a few bites. They did comp it and offered to get me something else. I was just no longer comfortable eating anything else with how dirty everything was that I could see and wondered how bad was what I couldn't see. If I wasn't at a dinner on vacation with family we were visiting, I would have left before the food came. I stopped at publix on the way home and got some frozen pizza and a pie. That was a much better meal.

Really, I don't know it's because I come from Cali where there is good Mexican food, but I am surprised this place can get to three stars. The fajitas were terrible, very low quality beef. The Chimichanga is supposed to be crispy, hence the different name. My Chimichanga was soft, like it sat in sauce too long. The cheese sauce was good, but it was like a cafeteria cheese sauce, which I happen to like. The salsa was way too tomatoey and limey. Sorry Vallartas, you need to step it up.

Used to like Vallarta's many years ago. But the place has really gone down the drain. On my last and final visit we discovered numerous roaches in the churros on the buffet. The overall feel of the place is just dirty. Such a shame. Used to be a fun Mexican place for a cheap meal and some decent margaritas.

Cheap Mexican food. Came for lunch. Very inexpensive if you stick to the specials. Servers are authentic but that means English is second language. They have fajitas on special but only with chicken or steak. As I am a non meat eater, I asked if I could get the vegetarian but he said they don't have that on special. No biggie. I had them put on side and gave to my hubby. Silly and illogical as it cost them more than if they accommodated me but whatever. Fajita was good but I think Cody's is better. Lunch specials are a bargain. For $4.50, hubby got burrito and taco. Salsa was good too

MMMMM CHIPS At the persuasion of my sister, I had the Seafood Nachos. Totally unappetizing in appearance because it's just a dripping blob of white sauce mixed with undeterminable seafood plopped over tortilla chips- but delicious! The crunchy and slightly salted Chips were a great contrast to the creamy and softly firm Seafood mixture. (True, I could only recognize the shrimp and the seafood taste was only in wisps) The Tamale was equally droopy looking (and feeling) but the flavor was pretty good. I wished the texture was less floppy. With low prices and the food seeming to have been created by families, don't expect poshy-poshy but simple, down-home Mexican dishes presented without fuss. FIESTA ATMOSPHERE And it wasn't just because of the nearby family celebrating something (You'll run into a lot of those here). Vallarta's is normally busy--period. Yet somehow in the craziness the servers expertly wound through the mass of bodies like an Olympic Skier on the slopes.

1.25 soft tacos or 99 cent hard tacos good deal but I had better at Lolis on Benjamin Rd off of waters

Used to love this place. The food was good, but the restaurant was dirty. Don't even look in the bathroom! The tables and booths were so dirty it was hard for me to enjoy my meal. The staff is very friendly. I hope they clean the place up so I can go back.

The margaritas were massively huge and delightful. My nephew's steak fajitas were a bit dry and tough. My mother's tostada was nothing special. My seafood nachos... HEAVEN. And I'm from CA folks, I'm not impressed with seafood or Mexican food easily. But they were AWESOME. Bottom line: You have to know what to order, but if you get the right things, it's a homerun. Don't ask for the spicy salsa though. I date Thai men and eat their food, and nothing I've had ripped my head off like this did. Hey, we asked for it, and we received. Stick with the standard salsa which has enough of a kick to make life interesting.

First real Mexican food we have found in Tampa area. We don't like tex-mex which is abundant in the area. Everything was great. Kids loved their food too.

Run away from Vallartas as far and as fast as you can. I've eaten here several times over the years and I've gotten sick each and every time. Today was no exception. My sweet husband and I decided to try them once again and hours later let's just say we are glad we have two bathrooms. They are disgusting and should be closed down. Might be time for a call to the health department. Looking to loose that extra 5 pounds? Then Vallartas is the place for you. Want to stay healthy and enjoy a nice meal? Don't eat here.

Unimpressive inexpensive lunch. Staff couldn't get the order right. Buffet may be a better option.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Tampa. I love their fajitas and the homemade guacamole dip! Reasonable prices...and they give you a ton of food. Great atmosphere. This place is a gem.

Ate here for the first time for lunch and tried the buffet since the price seemed good. Bad idea. The food was practically inedible. I myself am Spanish and let me say that this food is far from authentic. The food was stale and had clearly been sitting out for quite some time, it was bland or smothered in a sauce for "flavor." The enchiladas were barely stuffed with anything, the quesadillas were hard as a rock and I didn't trust the rubbery mushrooms inside, the other items were fried to a crisp or cooked till the cheese was burned or the taco shell was hard. I didn't even want to try the desserts which looked to be either too hard or formed into a pile of gelatinous material. Definitely will never return here.

Ridiculous. I ordered chips, salsa, and cheese dip to go and it cost 20.00. Cheese dip was over 8 dollars for a small bowl and I was charged separately for chips ($5) and salsa ($3.50). Way too much money for the tiny portions and low quality food. Won't come back.

Went here a few times after my first initial visit and have been disappointed. I LOVE tacos al pastor and the meat was phenomenal the first time I went but every visit after has been mostly onions and pineapple. Even the queso seems more watery now. They don't label what meat is in every item so I feel like I'm wasting so much food when I get domething I dont like. If everytime was like the first time I went, I'd be back weekly but I just keep getting disappointed.

Awful quality of food/dirty restaurant. I've gone here a few times and regret every time. The experience is always the same... dreadful. It's nothing better than a fast food chain. The restaurant as well isn't very clean. From the tables, the menus, and silverware it is disgusting. Stay away from there beef!!!

Been here a couple of times, can be busy some nights and completely dead on others. The food and service are decent here, I usually get the enchiladas supreme which is tasty and filling, although this last time we also ordered their nachos de mariscos which was a HUGE portion of seafood nachos and after that I could barely get half my enchiladas down. I will also say that their lunch buffet is awesome for the money, great selection of Mexican food and there's a coupon on their website. Overall a good place to get some drinks and filling Mexican food for cheap.

Decent Mexican. I prefer Miguels but had heard great things about Vallartas. I ordered the stuffed poblano peppers and they were pretty tasty. Good salsa, endless chips, but atmosphere is a little strange. Seems dated, and dusty. Not sure if I'd return, but would like to give the lunch buffet a try.

This is a tough one, 4 stars if you know what to order, 3 stars if you are a newbie and not sure what to order. First if there are 2 of you get a pitcher of margaritas. It is a mix, but it is tart and packs a punch. On my first visit I made the mistake of thinking the tequila was lacking, LOL it's there. The house special is a great combination, usually cooked well and delivered very hot. Eat what you can and save what you think will reheat well the next day, because you will definitely have enough for the next day. I keep meaning to try the buffet, but keep forgetting. Soup and salad bar comes with your dinner, but it really is not very appetizing. One of their best dishes is not on the menu. A giant Mexican shrimp cocktail. It is served in an enormous margaritas glass, full of shrimp in a thick spicy salsa. This is truly a gem, but you must know to ask for it. What's a girl to do? Just keep trying new and exciting things.

My wife and I went here for lunch yesterday and I really enjoyed the food. I had the burrito & taco lunch plate and was surpised at how much food it really was. Both were beef and both were very yummy, but next time I would get the enchilada and taco plate because of how full I was afterwards. The taco's here are excellent, so you need to try them!!! The give you free chips and salsa and huge glasses of water to wash them down with.

Like Astrom A.'s rating, more of a 3.5 than a 3. Couldn't give them a 4. Went tonite early enough to get the 2 for 1 margaritas. Had the chips and salsa. The salsa is okay but I prefer the salsa from Chili's. I had the Carzuela Vallartas which is a high end fajita set up with beef, chicken and shrimp. It was pretty tasty and I couldn't finish the whole plate. It came with the standard peppers and onion strips, guacamole, sour cream, rice and refried beans. The service was very quick. Again, a 3.5.

Food is good. I ordered the number 4 lunch combo consisting of rice, beans, one taco, and one chile rellano. Was very disappointed with the chile rellano. It was just meat with melted cheese. Not a real chile rellano. Very deceiving in my opinion.

I have tried this place 3 times and never liked it, 3 strikes and your out. I decided to take my grandaughter there and even she noticed that the celing looked like it was about to cave in. Everything in the place looks dirty including the tables, several people that came in after us were waited on before us. The food was disgusting, I felt like I need to take a shower when we left, I will never ever go there again!

Look out for the extras they charge. This is the first Mexican restaurant which charged me extra for a few slices of jalapeño. Food was just ok. PS. Even though we asked to talk to the manager the waiter said the manager does not want to show up.

Being that we were on Dale Mabry and hungry last night we ventured into Vallartas. We usually go to the location on 56th street, but we weren't on that side of town and it was already 9 PM. We were both hungry. This was our second attempt eating here and we probably won't come back (we'll stick with 56th St.). When our waiter arrived, he informed us that soup and salad was also included with our meal. (No thanks, the soup really did not look that appetizing at 9 PM, nor would I want to eat things (that I can see) that have been out since 11 AM). We ordered the same thing we usually get at the Temple Terrace location: a #1 (one taco, 2 enchiladas, and beans) and a #25 (one enchilada, one chalupa, and one burrito) all filled with chicken.T hat alone is enough to fill us up, I could not even attempt to have any soup and salad, even if it looked delicious. Oh, we also ordered a side of guacamole to go with the complimentary chips and salsa. About 15 minutes later, our food arrived. But, no guacamole- kinda wanted it to snack on with the chips BEFORE the meal. I informed the woman who brought our meal to us that we also ordered the guac. Our waiter promptly brought us a bowl of green stuff. Yes it was made with avocado, but it looked exactly like and tasted like the stuff you get from produce department of your local grocery store. It did not look or taste like traditional guacamole. Maybe I was expecting too much. Yes, our food was hot, but it still was meh to me. My chalupa was burnt on the sides, the chicken was in huge chunks, not shredded like at Temple Terrace, and the guac. Sigh. Guess we will stick with the tried and true.

The wife and I decided to go for Mexican Friday night. We went to Vallartas because is near to home and in the past we had a great time there. Unfotunately, we were seated on a rear area of the restaurant that actually smelled sort of greasy. The ceiling tiles seem to have seen better days. The waiter was very friendly so I ask him if they had live Mariachi music. He said that live Mariachi music was available only on Sundays. The waiter also added that he did not care for Mariachi music. I ask him why there was no music playing on the ceiling speakers. He smiled politely and simply walked away. The food was good and plentiful; yet the place felt like a dead zone. The wife and I simply will not be returning to this place. All I wanted was to eat, drink and hear some Mexican music...I guess I was hoping for way too much.

I REALLY wanted to like this place. I checked out their menu before we went : tacos, fajitas, taquitos, flautas,etc....everything that is right up my alley. Ive heard good things from other people as well. When I go to a mexican place, I feel the salsa is a good indicator of how the food will be. So right away, I was disappointed. It was watery and thin, with not alot of flavor. Kind of on the sweet side...it was just not good. The chips were actually really good, which drove me crazy since the salsa kinda sucked. I ordered the taquitos mexicanos, which essentially is a rolled up fried tortilla stuffed with chicken and cheese. Now, I LOVE a good greasy meal. But this...was just too much. Literally covered my hands in grease. To make matters worse, I think there was more cheese and onions than chicken. VERY little meat inside. Anyway, The service was decent and its decorated pretty cool inside, but the food left me very underwhelmed and disappointed. Sorry Vallartas :(

First thing - we went on a fri night. It was packed, if its packed, wouldn't u think it would be good. Well... Wrong. Atmosphere - loud like a chuckie cheese. Salsa - plain, chips - no big deal I orders a carne asada a la tampiquena steak w enchilada Steak had quite of fat, rice was overcooked like it was probably the same rice from during the day, enchilada was just a hunk if cheese w the plain salsa. Hubby had carne asada - same thing - blah. Maybe there's something better but I wont stick around to find it. Guacamole was also plain nothing in it except a bunch of spicy.

So I was in the mood to try something different, and I have seen their ads on Dale Mabry for their lunch buffet. So I say what the hell, I'll try it. I walk in and I am about to be seated, when I tell the server, I would like the lunch buffet. He tells me that the buffet ends at 2pm. It is now 2:06 and I look over and the buffet is full of food in which people are still eating. I look at him dumbfounded, I just made a special trip and I don't know about you...but I consider a little after two still lunch. So instead of giving a customer what he came for, you're going to throw all that food away or worse wrap it up and serve it the next day. Keep in mind, their ads never mention the hours of service. So I left.. Being angry, I called the restaurant and talked to the manager and only got a weak half apology and no effort to correct the situation.. So I took my business to Chipotle....

It seems that everyone thinks that they are a food critic lately!! The food here is fresh and great!! I have never had a bad meal here. Ernesto is trying new seafood items to show customers there is more than just beans and rice for a Mexican restaurant. GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

We were in the Tampa area and decided to go for some Mexican food. We were meeting my son's fiances family. First this is not an expensive restaurant so i wasnt expecting white glove service. The inside was decorated nicely and looked authentic, at least to us. We ordered a pitcher of Margarita which was very good. We all chose to eat the lunch buffett which had a large variety of food. Service was good.

Give it a five because the location is nice and they have a Buffett. Perhaps the most legit Mexican food place that I've been to In tampa. Buffett for two people was like $26 bucks to include agua de horchatas!

Deb K.
We arrived too late for the buffet, so I ordered the "special" combination plate to try a little of everything and they were able to make it vegetarian. Oh my, the amount of food was incredible. The service was stellar and the staff came and sang happy birthday to my beaming mother-in-law. We are actually going back in two weekends for my husband's birthday. I was not a huge fan of Mexican until trying Vallarta's!

If you're as lucky as I am you'll get to sit next to bumpkins who have traveled down from Lutz to get loaded on margaritas and shout quasi-racist remarks! Vallartas isn't amazing, it might not even be good (I'm by no means a connoisseur of Mexican cuisine), but it hits the spot and it's cheap. The queso dip is killer, and everything else is pretty tasty. This isn't really authentic Mexican, but it's by no means ballpark nachos. It should be noted that this is more of a 2.5 review because sometimes the service suckkkkkks. SUCKKKKS. I've waited an hour to only receive something I didn't even order. But it's Mexican food in North Tampa that's not part of some chain, so that'll do, Vallartas, that'll do.

This is the worst mexican food I have ever had. The quality of this food is near Taco Bell's, if not worse. It is over priced and tastes very processed. Their margaritas are made from a premixed (made by some company, bottled and then shipped to their restaurant) mixer. Really?!? How can you call yourself fresh? At one point many years ago when I ate here, the food was excellent. I am not sure if they have a new head chef or new owners, but the food defiantly is not worth a penny.

The food here is always really good, and I've only been to this location twice, but both times the wait for everything was nearly unbearable. We got a table fast, but both times the wait staff were severely inattentive and didn't seem to understand how to split a check or do basic things a wait staff should be trained to do. It also didn't help that a family was letting their children run around the place screaming the entire time, which isn't the restaurants fault, but still. The one near Collier Parkway is much better and I'll be going there from now on.

If you like meals with a lot of meat, try the Molcajete. It's basically just a big metal cauldron filled with three types of meat and some green peppers and onions. The downside is, they always seem to want to give you three tortillas at a time. This pile of meat is the size of a small child. Why don't they spare a few more tortillas for this meal? I don't get it. The service isn't terrible, but it's certainly nothing to boast about. Still, I care more about the food I'm eating more than who brings it to me... and the dishes here are usually pretty tasty, so whatever...

I came here on vacay with my boyfriend and his 20 something daughter. Overall very good for food and value. They brought out chips and salsa on arrival. Very good - but not as warm and fresh and flavorful as I've has at other Mexican establishments (Margaritas in Waltham, MA). We got a pitcher of margaritas to share...DELLISH!!! And cheap too. Just $20 for 5 or 6 drinks. The three of us got a fajita-like dish with shrimp, chicken and beef that we shared with plenty still left over. Very good overall. I definitely recommend!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(4)Caitlin K.
Best Mexican I've had in a long time. Plus stronger than typical margaritas. The guacamole texacano is a must try!
(5)Linda B.
(2)Louis M.
(1)Melanie B.
(5)X X.
Ordered take out. Steak burritos were pretty bare- just meat. Refried beans with tacos that worked their dark digestive magic until late the next day. Steak avocado burrito was good. Would order again but request black beans.
(3)Jennifer S.
(2)Paul C.
(2)Gondul V.
(2)Rafael B.
The worst Mexican food ever... Please if you value your money and your taste buds.. Never go to this spot!!!
(1)Matt K.
Very poor quality Mexican food. Especially on their Buffett.
(2)Ben K.
(4)Garret B.
Highly recommended.

i have been few times here and i hated this place...food has no test or style... i would never go again ever...

My favorite Mexican in Tampa. Having grown up in Southern California, their Carne Asada tacos are the closest I've found to a taqueria I've found here.
(5)T M.
(2)Sherri C.
(5)Dave K.
Vallartas is my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant in the Tampa area. This place has great food, with an equally great cost. I've going to the location at 56th and Busch for year now, and its always been great. And those margaritas...
(5)Carlos H.
(5)A N.
vallartas is our favorite mexican in tampa. The kids really like the lunch buffet.
(4)James H.
(5)Taz and Kazi J.
(5)Kimberly F.
I'd like to say that we had a wonderful experience at Vallartas. We had a large party which couldn't get together until about a half hour before closing. We checked with the manager a couple of days before, and they agreed to take the party. The service was tremendous and the food awesome. They could not have been more hospitable.
(4)Jacqueline M.
Vallartas is the place to go if you want reasonably priced Mexican food in Tampa. Its as authentic as you can get without being in Mexico. The prices are reasonable, food is great, and its a fun atmosphere.
(5)Danielle B.

The food here's OK. Not the greatest, just OK. For the Carrollwood area it's excellent, but in Tampa, Algusto and Estela's are much better.

(4)Alma N.

(4)Amber H.
(3)Jim K.
This is my 3rd visit to this location. They were packed on Saturday night. I gave them 3 stars last time and thought they were worthy of 4 stars this time. The food was better and the all you can eat chicken soup and salad is an extra special nice touch!
(4)Ron A.
The Dale Mabry location has been allowed to deteriorate to an unexceptable level. There was something slimy in my Coke, the place is dirty. I just don't trust it anymore.
(2)Deivys H.
First and last time that I come to this restaurant, the service was slow and the food was tasteless, no flavor at all. Also I found the place really expensive. $6 plus the drink for a kids menu. Please!
(1)Astulia C.
(5)Amanda S.
This was delicious! The best Mexican I have had in Florida since I moved from California. Love the authentic atmosphere and polite waitstaff. They even turned on the basketball game for my husband while we were there. All I can say is be prepared to say yummy!

This was not a happy dining experience, and I see that other Yelpers have shared similar horror stories about the quality of food from Vallarta's on Dale Mabry in Carrollwood. Vallarta's has been around for many years. At one time this was a chain of mutually-owned Mexican restaurants in the Bay area, but according to the menu these are now all individually owned and operated. Vallarta's is one of the last businesses standing in a strip mall alongside Dale Mabry, and they've taken to parking a brightly-colored van with rotating lights next to the driveway so that you'll be sure to see the place. My advice is to keep on driving as there are many better and safer dining choices in either direction. This is the place to come if you want a very inexpensive luncheon buffet of burritos, enchiladas, build-your-own tacos, and a soup & salad bar. They offer dollar-off lunch coupons for people who want to shovel the grub into their feed bags, and not worry about the after-effects. The emphasis is on quantity rather than quality. If you want a 32-ounce jumbo margarita made with pre-packaged powdered mixer for $8.99 then this is your place. The restaurant is nicely decorated, like a fun Mexican cantina. Large colorful murals on the walls, and individually-painted chair backs give this place a lot of character. There is seldom a wait as the place is not crowded (draw your own conclusions). The server will be at your table quickly with a basket of warm chips and a container of watered-down salsa - lacking in flavor. The menu has many of the traditional tacos, enchiladas, burritos, chalupas, chile relleno, tamales, tostadas, and fajitas that you'll find at most every Mexican restaurant in town. Vallarta's is pushing table-side prepared guacamole as an appetizer. The table next to me ordered it, and they said despite the showiness of the preparation that the guac tasted bland. The dinner menu contains all of the above plus steaks, chicken, pork, and seafood entrées. Instead of playing it safe and ordering a sizzling platter of beef fajitas, I made the mistake of ordering Camarones al mojo de ajo, which according to the menu was to be shrimp sautéed in garlic, butter and tender onions. Served with guacamole salad, rice and tortillas. Please note that the word "sauté" generally infers cooking..... in a skillet..... using heat.... Sadly the shrimp which were delivered to my table were still partially-frozen, and had not been drained. They were not plump, and pink, and warm, but rather cold and gray and disgusting. The green onions were wilted after having sat in the runoff from the frozen shrimp. The only positive thing was the yellow rice, pico de gallo and side order of regular guacamole. There are much much better Mexican restaurants in Tampa, and so I will not subject my digestive tract to another barf-inducing meal. No thanks, I won't be back.
(2)Daniel P.
Short and to the point on this one. It's just ok.. Food was not the best. You get lots of food for the price but I'd rather have quality over quantity maybe that's just me. Staff were nice but food was over priced. Place needs a makeover in a bad way. It's not the worst but you can find better.
(2)Taylor G.
(4)Giancarlo G.

Have gone to one on Dale Mabry every so often for years. Went again recently, and for Mexican food they are tops. On Sunday evenings they even have live mariachi's singing. Service, food and atmosphere always comfortable and very good.
(5)Bree L.
Went for Saturday lunch buffet. Food looked and tasted as if it had been sitting out for a long time. Smelled like vomit in the restaurant.

I have been eating here from time to time for years. Stopped in today for lunch. Buffet ! Only Mexican food buffet I know of. Hot fresh , tasty. Large selection to choose from. Great chips and salas also. With a coke, my bill was just over $13.

(4)Jessica D.
(3)Bex D.
I ordered a combo number and received a different combo. The food was ok but nothing I would come back for. Our server was sweet but must have been brand new because she didn't know anything about the menu and didn't offer to go ask. She asked us the same questions as if she forgot she just talked to us and moved slowly.
(2)R. G.
(4)Patricia H.
(1)Luisella M.
Waiter was less than enthusiastic, seemed downright bored really. The food I ordered likewise matched his personality. The chips and salsa were good. I had the shrimp al tequila and was very disappointed. This was our second choice since chipotle was closed. :/
(2)Amy Z.
Love their chips and queso. Margaritas are pre-mixed, but are 2 for 1 before 7. It's inexpensive and good food.
(4)Tim C.
This is a really good place for Mexican food. I love their Fajita.
(4)Julio T.

(1)Frank C.
(1)Robbie C.
Salsa was good too
(3)Pyra-Danny V.
(4)Honda C.
1.25 soft tacos or 99 cent hard tacos good deal but I had better at Lolis on Benjamin Rd off of waters
(2)Anne Z.
Used to love this place. The food was good, but the restaurant was dirty. Don't even look in the bathroom! The tables and booths were so dirty it was hard for me to enjoy my meal. The staff is very friendly. I hope they clean the place up so I can go back.
(2)Sean B.
(4)Julie W.
First real Mexican food we have found in Tampa area. We don't like tex-mex which is abundant in the area. Everything was great. Kids loved their food too.
(5)M R.
(1)Tara H.
Unimpressive inexpensive lunch. Staff couldn't get the order right. Buffet may be a better option.
(2)Laura W.
One of the best Mexican restaurants in Tampa. I love their fajitas and the homemade guacamole dip! Reasonable prices...and they give you a ton of food. Great atmosphere. This place is a gem.
(5)Krystina R.
(1)Holly M.
Ridiculous. I ordered chips, salsa, and cheese dip to go and it cost 20.00. Cheese dip was over 8 dollars for a small bowl and I was charged separately for chips ($5) and salsa ($3.50). Way too much money for the tiny portions and low quality food. Won't come back.
(2)Melanie B.
(1)Xavier C.
(1)Michael G.
(3)Steph G.
(3)Donald W.
Look and listen very carefully. If you want to get full, and spend very little money, get your a_ _. Over here man,the food is great.
(5)Kathy D.
(3)Eric C.
(4)Jerry G.
(3)Laura V.
Food is good. I ordered the number 4 lunch combo consisting of rice, beans, one taco, and one chile rellano. Was very disappointed with the chile rellano. It was just meat with melted cheese. Not a real chile rellano. Very deceiving in my opinion.
(3)Collin F.
(1)Abi C.
Look out for the extras they charge. This is the first Mexican restaurant which charged me extra for a few slices of jalapeño. Food was just ok. PS. Even though we asked to talk to the manager the waiter said the manager does not want to show up.
(1)Cindy L.
