My new favorite sushi spot in Tampa. I frequent this joint, and I've yet to be disappointed. Highly recommend the Tomo roll, also YellowTail Jalapeño and the Luigi. Food is always fresh and the chef will greet you upon arrival and thank you on your way out. If you're looking for a nice, calm spot to dig in to some delicious rolls, this is exactly that. Bring your appetite!

I love this place! Their only downfall is they are closed on Sundays and I'm always in the mood for sushi Sundays. I usually get dragon roll, rainbow roll, ho ho roll And love all their apps. everything is delicious and fresh tasting. Their prices are fair. They have a sushi bar and also tables to accommodate groups. We took my mom here for her birthday and she Loved it. everyone was very friendly, food came out fast even with the group. I now come here every time I'm in Tampa!

I've only ever carried-out sushi here when I volunteered at the Emergency Vet last year just a few doors down, so I can't comment on the dining experience. However, I've always felt welcomed when I would come in to pick up my orders. The chefs behind the counter would always greet me, seemed friendly, and appeared like they enjoyed what they were doing. It's a modest little place, dimly lit, quiet..that's as much as I can remember from the ambiance. I'm a bit of a creature of habit, and once I find something l like I tend to stick to it until I find that I need a bit of variation. If I'm remembering correctly, the only rolls I've tried here are the Spicy Escolar Roll (my fav), Spicy Tuna Roll (kind of my 'safe' roll anywhere, pretty hard to go wrong), & Tempura Spicy Tuna Roll. As you can tell by the common denominator, I like spicy food. The Tempura roll is the one I'm iffy about, I just remember one of the first rolls I tried here was fried & I didn't care for it and never ordered it again. So, Spicy Escolar & Spicy Tuna Roll are my two go-to orders here and has yet to disappoint me. However, there was one incident when I found a bone in one of the Escolar Rolls. I was so thankful I caught it before I choked on it! That was definitely a first ever that has occurred to me from eating sushi. Perhaps it was an isolated incident, but just so you know.. I've also had some of their sashimi rolls and thought they were good, but idk what they were. One of my colleagues had ordered a bento that included them, however, she had requested a substitute as she does not eat raw fish - but they messed up and gave her the original order. So, not wanting the good fish go to waste, I offered to buy it from them as I was exchanging it for her bc at least I knew where the fish had been whereas they would of been obligated to trash it. I'm hoping they discounted it for me since I was helping them out for their mistake, but I've never ordered sashimi to know what the price point is - I think they charged me $6 or $7 for those 3-4 pieces. I would definitely go back for a sit-down dining experience at some point in the future. Maybe even adventure a new item or two off the menu next time...I'm such a daredevil!

I've had really good luck with sushi places lately. I would have never found Tomo sushi if it hadn't been for Yelp, though : it's in a plaza behind a gas station off of Bearss ave. Wierd spot but such a great place. I was immediately pleased that it was a small, intimate spot. I needed a relaxing atmosphere after the week I just had. Our waitress was super sweet, and I absolutely love that they bring out an appetizer of edamame completely on the house. I've never seen another sushi/Japanese place do that, and I think it was a great touch. Prices for rolls seem pretty standard, 4-6 dollars for basic rolls and 8-11 for special rolls. With the edamame and the (delicious) ginger salad we split, we decided to share two rolls : one "special" roll and one "basic". 1. Buccaneer roll : shrimp, crab, avocado, asparagus, tempura flakes on top with spicy mayo and eel sauce. UH, YUM. This was my favorite. All the flavors were fresh and meshed well, it practically melted in my mouth. 2. Tempura Japanese bagel roll : salmon, cream cheese, and fried. Standard bagel roll, but delicious nonetheless. Very pleased with the quality of the sushi here and the service. I really dont have anything negative to report...5 stars all the way.

My wife picked up Tomo's for lunch today. It was the our first time there. When she got home, they had forgotten half of bento box (the sushi half). I called them to let them know and drove back there to pick up the remainder. What followed was a lesson in bad restaurant management. The sushi chef spoke no English, the waitress no Japanese. She spent three minutes trying to communicate to him that he needed to make just half the bento box. She then proceeded to call someone on the phone to apparently translate for the chef. After 15 minutes of waiting, I walked out with my food and in a bad mood. Barely and apology from them, no offer to either make it up or give me something extra compensate for my troubles. I got back home to the other half of the meal which was now cold tempura. The sushi itself was ok, nothing special. We won't be going back.

They are friendly, but unforutunately comparing the way they make sushi and there tiny tiny portions. i stopped going. Ichiban is the best on fowler ave or sushi alive. i also dislike lately the chefs dont speak or understand much english and you have american waitresses that have communication problems with them. Pass much better places

My family has been going to Tomo for years. We love the sushi here. My favorite is the chirashi, it's always fresh, with lots of toppings. We eat here at least once a month.

Went at lunch time and was sorely disappointed. The sushi was poorly put together and metiocre in taste. The service was awful, and other patrons were simply walking out.

Great Sushi, definitely top 3 of all time for me. So good I repeated to be sure. Friendly staff , regulars at the bar make it feel comfortable. I had the Tomo Box and it was more than enough food, even after skipping lunch today. We came to celebrate my wife's promotion and she loved it too. We are not sushi snobs , but we do know good sushi and this place rocks.

I finally visited Tomo after planing to eat here for months. The Yelpers who reviewed it before me are correct. The sushi here is great. It tastes fresh and prices are slightly above average, but you get your money's worth. I ordered their Tomo Lunch Box, a bento box which comes with a miso soup, ginger salad, teriyaki chicken, rice, tempura veggies and shrimp, 4 pieces of a california roll, and 2 nigiri rolls of salmon and tuna. All of the food was great and they were generous with the portions. The service was on point and our server was quick to seat us, put our orders in, and handle the bill. The atmosphere was great as well with traditional music playing softly in the background and a well decorated restaurant with many Japanese inspirations to it. They also have Korean BBQ on the menu being Korean-owned. I'd definitely go visit Tomo again!

I had seen the reviews here and thought since it's literally at our doorstep, that we should go and try it out. My son who is 11.5 absolutely loves Sushi, and so as a treat we went after school. We were the first ones there for dinner, and were treated very nicely by our waitress. My son chose the the Soho rolls, and I asked the waitress to recommend something, since it was the first time there. I ended up choosing the Boston Roll. I have to say that it was amazing. Not too expensive and very friendly staff. We'll definitely go back with my husband.

This place is amazing. It's priced very fairly and the portions aren't so big that you're in a food coma when you leave, nor are you still hungry. The quality of fish is crazy awesome -- it's some of the best fish I've had. My boyfriend and I split one of the sushi combos (comes with miso soup & ginger salad) with a California roll, 7 pieces of sushi, and 12 pieces of sashimi for $24.95, and it was totally worth it. We also got a second bowl of miso soup for free. The service was very fast and our waitress and the chefs were super friendly.

I come hear a minimum of 3 times a month, and not once have I ever been disappointed. This is a family owned and run business. The quality of the sushi is very fresh and satisfactory. The variety of rolls is also quite extensive. I highly recommend if you are ever in the area

Sushi. I found a place in Tampa where you can have your sushi MADE TO ORDER and HAVE IT YOUR WAY. I hate when sushimen are not japanese. Even chineses I don't like. These one is a REAL japanese sushiman and the place is pretty neat, with fine people at lunch time. I like their prices too. You can have the roll (8 pieces) of "bagel sushi" (salmon and cream cheese) or Ebi (shrimp over rice) for only 4.75 and there are delicious combinations on the menu. If you like sushi like I do, you definitely should check this place out. :)

I drove over 1,100 miles to enjoy a top-tier experience for the second time. Life would be better if Tomo was closer.

The sushi here is fresh, clean, and delicious. Service is above average, setting is clean if not a little too boring. Too bad there aren't more people here. Salad dressing waaaay to sweet and a bit gritty. Miso soup average if not a little better. Will definitely come back, my sushi lunch special was made to order and was very very good.

This is a solid place to bring genuinely Japanese friends. They don't over-try on the ambiance and the food is true to the book and quality. No surprises here, unless you count the fact that some of the stuff NOT on the sushi menu actually kicks a$$ - cellophane noodle stew comes to mind! That said, it's not a first-date place, more like a fifth-date, someone you're actually comfortable with and you know isn't too superficial or high-maintenance. Servers and chefs are great folk, but investing in the decor and playing with food presentation and pricing might help bring my next rating up.

We walked in around 6 so it was pretty quiet. We were immediately greeted by the sushi chefs! and seated ourselves. There was only one waitress so we were glad to have beat the dinner rush. She was very quick and friendly. We were greeted with somewhat warm towelettes, only bad part was that they smelt dingy. I did go to the restroom and actually wash my hands regardless. Along with the towelettes they gave a side platter of edamame. I was super excited about this part because I'd been craving them for about a month now. Much to my surprise they were already cooked and preheated;nonetheless I was starving and wanted them always. We ordered sake, chicken katsu (deep fried breaded chicken)- which came with rice, salad and miso soup. We also ordered the Tomo roll, mainly because it said 'scallops' and i'm a huge scallop fan. The soup was piping hot and the salad was what you expect from a Japanese restaurant. The chicken katsu came out and it looked very crispy. More like it was crispy a while ago and then re-deep fried to be crispier. It was too dry for me but the hubs ate it anyway. The reason I'm a fan is because of this roll the 'Tomo roll' It has crab, avocado, asparagus tops and then there is a mixture of scallop and mushrooms baked on top of the roll. It was so good I ordered two! I'm pretty sure they put more mushrooms in the second roll but it was still good. Will definitely go back for more sushi rolls.
