This is a great date place. I really enjoyed the atmosphere...they had a live jazz playing and it was dimly lit on the inside. They also had a porch outside which we really enjoyed for people watching and relaxing, not to worry...you can hear the live music from the outside too :). I ordered a Farmer's Market Gimlet to start off with, it was really good, not too sweet and garnished with Rosemary. We got the mussels as an appetizer. That was honestly the BEST part of our meal. Order the mussels! You won't regret it, they were delicious! Served on a hot plate, still sizzling. I ordered the meatballs bolognese...it was ok, honestly the pasta was a little over cooked and I felt it lacked in the seasoning department but it did not take away from the experience, the mussels were still on my mind :) We also ordered the BLT salad with blackened chicken. I cannot say enough good things about that salad...the chicken was basically herb crusted, the mustard drizzle was just the right amount of tangy and spicy and it complemented the tomatoes and fresh mozzarella...then there was the bacon...I do t know what sweet glaze it had on it but it was delicious! We will definitely be returning and trying out more things on the menu...and of course ordering the mussels again!

I used to go here on a weekly basis, but as of lately I don't see the point. They have discontinued oyster night on Wednesday, and much of their food is over priced for what you receive. It's probably why they are normally dead nightly. Their website doesn't list happy hour specials well, and it's not as easy to navigate as other websites. I love the live music here which is why it even got two stars. Mediocre food at a high price doesn't sit well with me.

New in the area, stopped in for lunch, the staff was great but the steaks were way over cooked. Way over cooked! The risotto was way too salty and bland. They definitely need to reevaluate the cook. It was not worth the 240.00 spent.

    1. I've eaten all over the country.. I can honestly say the Skillet Mussels are the best I have ever had. 2. The Tuna and Steak Tartare are also two of the best dining decisions I have ever made. I come back to this place weekly when I am in town. 3. Timpanos is a Tampa staple, by I still believe it is overlooked and under appreciated. 4. Tremendous bar staff and management as well.

The Eggplant-Pine Nut Ragout & Spinach Cannelloni, had no visible signs of eggplant and was loaded with salt. The others in the group had nothing great to say about their meals either. I thought the waitress was clueless and inattentive. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1, is the jazz band was great.

Very small portions. Poor service. We ordered the seared tuna entree, was smaller than any typical restaurant app, about a 1 inch square. That was the dinner. I asked for wine, never came. Other drinks not refilled. disappointment.

My girlfriend and I were able to enjoy a nice celebratory dinner at Timpano's in Hyde Park on a recent weeknight. We were celebrating the fact that I managed to assemble her new platform bed from IKEA in a single afternoon, and did not feel compelled to use any colorful language in the process. We had walked by Timpano's several times in the past when shopping in Hyde Park, or seeing a movie at Cinebistro, but had never stopped in for a meal. You'll find this classy Italian Chophouse restaurant along Swann Avenue at the corner of Rome Avenue. Cinebistro is right across the street, and Irish 31 is across the street and down the block. Timpano's sits next door to one of the Hyde Park parking garages, and that provides free and easy parking. I did not realize this, but Timpano's is a small chain with sister restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale and Rockville, MD. I'll have to try their Ft. Lauderdale location along Las Olas Boulevard the next time that I'm on the other side of the state. Timpano's offers covered patio al fresco dining as well as an elegant interior restaurant and lounge area. Britt and I were seated at a table near the bar, so we were able to watch the mixologists at work and listen to live music from their jazz combo. Since she was working later that night we stuck to iced tea, but the drinks menu had a number of great wine selections, and hand-crafted cocktails as well. The dinner menu features aged beef, chops, veal, seafood, and some great pasta dishes. Our waiter was excellent, and he made some terrific suggestions on entrées for both of us. We started our meal with a tomato & burrata flatbread which was topped with yellow and red grape tomatoes, creamy burrata mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and cracked black pepper. For my main course I ordered a New York strip steak, and Britt had the pan-seared sea scallops which were served with asparagus, sweet creamy polenta, and a lobster cream sauce. I added a side of sautéed spinach with garlic and chili flakes, and then we settled in to enjoy our delicious meal. They had a nice looking dessert menu, but we were both stuffed after our entrées. We'll have to come back some time to try one of their desserts with a cocktail. Our waiter checked in on us several times, and refilled our iced tea without being prompted. We did enjoy watching the crowd at the bar, and especially liked the live music during dinner. Timpano's is definitely a great spot to listen to music and enjoy a drink, or enjoy a nice meal before you catch a movie at Cinebistro. The prices are a bit steep, but it's a cool atmosphere and a fun place to meet friends after work.

-1 star for prices/value -1 star for flavor/food quality We started with good appetizers, in fact that's their best quality. If you look at most of the pics for this place, they're primarily of appetizers, next time I go (which I would go again) I will ge

Certainly not the Orlando location. It is Too tight, Too loud, with mediocre service. The food is ok, but not worth the experience to eat it. The bar is a middle age meat market for conservative types. Cocktails not crafted but dumped into a glass.

First visit to timpanos and it was great. My friends raved about the mussel appetizer and it lived up to the hype as they were great. The menu has a lot of variety and the specials were good. Our party was there a few hours and we never felt rushed. The bar area looked nice, very crowed and a small band was playing Party of 4 with 3 appetizers. Dinner and lots of drinks ran about $330

I've been to Timpano's many times for brunch, lunch, and dinner. I can say that I have never been disappointed with anything I've eaten here. Their brunch on letters are so amazing and during dinners I make sure to always order the mussels to stay the meal off with- they come out sizzling every time. You can't go wrong with anything here.

I live two blocks from here and only went for the first time a couple of weekends ago with a friend. We went for the bottomless mimosas... it was an awesome deal... for $15 you get as many as you want... I think it was until 4pm, possibly 3pm. Either way we showed up at 11 and got our money's worth! My goal was to get it to 50 cents a mimosa and I was damn near it by the end! We started inside at the bar and I had a breakfast skillet called the Frank Sinatra with eggs, bacon, mushrooms (yuck, I picked those off!) and sausage with breakfast potatoes. It was good! After we ate our meals we then transferred outside on the patio since it was such a nice day. The inside and out both have great atmosphere. While the food was a little pricey, (I think mine was $15 bucks) the drink special definitely made up for it. I will be going back again!

Nice restaurant, relaxed but fun atmosphere, good service, decent food. I love the look and feel of this restaurant. It fits in perfectly in Hyde Park and I'll probably stop in for a drink and appetizer, but unlikely I'll make a special trip for dinner. I was expecting a great meal given the appearance of the restaurant and how crowded it always is, but everything we received was just okay. The truffle mac and cheese was on the dry side, not a lot of flavor either. The broccolini was undercooked, and our entrees were nothing more than sustenance and not a memorable meal. They do have a nice outdoor dining area and bar looks fun though.

took a party of 4 to Timpano's last night for a friend's 81st birthday. We waited over 20 minutes for a round of drinks that i personally ordered at the bar and which were to be brought by a waitress then by our server as we had planned to dine when our fourth arrived. she arrived in time for us to determine that a 25 mn wait for a round of drinks starting from when we were at the back bar then moved to a booth by the most gracious hostess did not forebode well for a meal. since our drinks never ever materialized, we left and i notified the hostess on the way out. way to go timpano's for tainting an 81 year young's celebration.... by the way, anyone NORMAL, would have paid extra attention to the older man with us when told we were celebrating an 81st bd.... your staff minus the hostess showed total ineptitude. classless and clueless might be a good description.... so we left and headed on to an old standby.... Bella's .... Warmth, comfort, human touch.

Good service, attentive wait staff. Waiter offered coupon for next time while a little construction is going on outside, now that's a really nice touch, it shows they care about your experience and want you back. Food was also excellent and the jazz band makes for a lovely evening. It is chilly inside and do yourself a favor and valet park.

Found this restaurant in Tampa on open table... This is my first stop while traveling and on tour. I was looking for a good place in downtown Tampa to eat very late last minute with a great feel. Called for a reservation got One immediately. Upon arrival they had an amazing jazz band playing. I didn't realize that there would be one but it set the perfect tone for my long flight. It was fun relaxing and I had a great time singing along. (I think they were closed between lunch and dinner). Very friendly staff and food was outstanding. Started with a mussel and mozzarella appetizer then later for my entree I had the OSSO BUCCO if you are into pork this was the chefs recommendation. Served over a risotto UGHHHH to die for. Everyone including the manager checked on me frequently and made me feel more than welcome. Its relatively an amazing place so I recommend reservations. They seem like they can get packed very quickly. The décor was like a restaurant you would find in Little Italy, in NY. Outstanding food, very good prices. Upscale feel but without the upscale price. Perfect for family friends dates and more.

Happy Birthday Tia! They had no problem helping me find my party and I loved that. The steak tar tare was traditional with capers, and I always find the less any place has to actually cook anything, the better! My Manthing had the mozzarella. They were deep fried cheese balls, fun stringy bar food balls in my mouth I guess, but the belle of this ball was the happen chance greens beneath aforementioned balls! "cheese- cheese-cheese-cheese lightning! They must have been tossed in truffle oil which ever so lightly wet the greens lying innocently beneath them. This fresh spring mix had not wilted in the heat, in fact it allowed for the truffle oil to cover it in what must have been the most accidental coat of yum that hath ever transpired in history. Now THAT dish I might pay an arm and leg for, but seeing as it was practically an accident and all..

Right in the heart of South Tampa/Hyde Park Village, this restaurant is one of my favorites. On the weekends, there is typically a live jazz band to keep things lively. Get there early enough to sit at the bar or outside if it's a nice day. The must-have on the menu are the mussles. The best I have ever had, and take advantage of the presentation, as well as, the salt around the shell. Beyond that, the rest of the food is delicious and you'll want to come back to make you try everything - carpaccio, martinis, tiramisu.

Went here last Tuesday for Ladies Night. The Sangria was really tasty and my friend liked her martini. We were lucky enough to get a spot near the bar so that we could enjoy the specials. However-the musicians were SO LOUD! It's nice to hear live music, but I was screaming to hear my friend and we were practically right in each other's face. The next morning I woke up with a sore throat from having to yell. I would like to go back.....provided the music is turned down.

I had the Chicken Marsala recommended by our waiter. The chicken was very thin, tough, and dry. The pasta was under cooked and stuck together. There was absolutely no flavor. My friend ordered the lasagne and did not like it all. There was only a thin layer of pasta and no flavor. My other friend was still eating her dinner and they cleared her plate when she went to the restroom, after she told the waiter she was not finished. They did bring her a new meal in a doggie bag. The positives are a Great atmosphere and live music. I enjoyed dancing with my husband. However, very expensive for awful food.

Great ambience. Upscale. Food is ehh. I've been twice and thought the second time might be better and it wasn't. I don't recommend the flatbread and the truffled Mac and cheese is just okay. Both very greasy. My stomach hurt both times that I've eaten here.

Ambience is nice with a seductive bar scene. But please do not call this an Italian restaurant. Simple chicken cutlet Parmesan and spaghetti screwed up .Chicken cutlet deep fried to a golden piece of dry inedible rubber, pasta was like glue and I asked for extra sauce on side and I was given tomato soup. I will not be back. Learn how to cook.

Great dinner! We had a wonderful dinner & it was a full house which is always a good sign. I do think that the Ft lauderdale location is a little better. Loved that the manager came around to the tables & the free valet (who hustled & ran to get out car). The crab cake was the best I've ever had. The mussels were good but as amazing as I remember. The veal chop was seasoned perfectly. The spinach salad was good. The mac n cheese was average. The bread great was sooo fresh. Make reservations on open table! Solid place!

The tuna carpaccio appetizer is absolutely delicious! The service is half par and the food is good. Not knock your socks off good. If you are looking for some Classic Italian food, this should curb your cravings.

I always walk by Timpano, but I had not gone in until just recently. I always notice it's really busy, so I figured it's probably pretty good. The atmosphere here is really cool. It's a pretty nice restaurant with a lot of seating, a big bar, and a place for live music. I really loved the live music aspect of Timpano. We just came in for an appetizer and we got the steak tartare. Really tasty, it had some vegetables in it which I thought was interesting. The portion was really really small though, which was unfortunate because I wanted more! I will be back to update this review with an actual meal, but the service was prompt and friendly. I wasn't wowed by my experience, but it was okay.

A $40 aged steak should be good and it was, tender and juicy and filling. The sides however were not, overcooked 'shrooms, spinach and asparagus. The cocktails and wine were delicious, the booth comfy and the service A-OK. A little pricey on the whole but that meat was good.

Meet up with a bunch of friend's here for a birthday celebration last night, and it's a pretty cool looking place. The atmosphere, décor, sunlight lounge with the live music was all very nice. La Chica and I weren't hungry, so we only ordered some appetizers. I order the mozzarella boccanccini and La Chica got the steak tartar. Both had excellent presentation (see pics), but neither were "OMG" good. They were just average in taste with the steak tartar being slightly better. We also summoned some white sangria, which was surprisingly cinnamon-free. A lot of places like to load up their white sangria with that stuff, and it's just not necessary at all, so props to Timpano for that. But three SMALL glasses of their white sangria will set you back $28, and then throw in the two appetizers and all of a sudden you're spending nearly $50. A bit steep for food hovering around average in taste. And that doesn't even include any entrees! We had a party of 22, and I asked several people around the table how their food was, and these were their responses: "good," "ok," or "had better." No one was impressed with anything other than the atmosphere and service. Honestly, I don't see ever returning to Timpano. It would probably cost me and the chica $80 to eat dinner here, and I just don't bank hard enough to blow that much money and HOPE that the food is better than "good," "ok," or "had better."

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Had a live jazz band on Friday night. Unfortunately my girlfriend got sick the day we traveled from Boston to Tampa and was fighting it off, she was feeling 75% at best but just wanted to get out so we tried this place (because of yelp) We split a salad and the beef carpaccio before entrees and both were excellent. In between finishing those and receiving the entree my girlfriend started feeling bad(this was not because of the food) We decide to leave without touching our entrees. Now most servers would think this is kind of weird but our server Derrick was completely understanding of the situation. He quickly brought the food back all wrapped up and a check. Hope to get back here soon and actually stay for a full meal!

Poor service, food was NOT worth the price, my friend had frozen olives in her $11 side salad. Overall I just walked out feeling like I wasted $40 on a crappy meal and experience.

One one thing comes to mind Mimosas!!! I love this place specially on Sundays when you can have unlimited Mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar. It is great for lunch when there is an event at Hyde Park even though you may miss the event once you get comfortable here. The food is great specially the seafood like steamed mussels. This location is good for large groups and outside sitting allows you to take in everything that Hyde Park has to offer.

Ever since I went gluten free, I find it hard to eat here since my favorite dishes used to be the pastas! There's not a lot of gluten free options on this menu. However- I love going on Tuesday night for Ladies Night. If you sit in the bar area, it's $3 house wines, along with other drink specials (their seasonal pumpkin martini tastes like a dessert!) and some appetizer deals. Plus- you get to enjoy the amazing local band- Phase 5. They play a great variety of music- and the whole band is super talented. It's a great Tuesday night after work outing.

Timpano is one of those establishments which I don't venture to often - but when I do, I say to myself, "Why don't I come here more often"? It really reminds me of restaurants in NYC. It just has that feeling. When you walk in the door, you are greeted by different generations of front of house staff. Always very friendly. Sam, the older dapper gentleman is a sheer delight if he is working. Find him in a polished suit, a beautiful bow tie and a smile for miles and you feel transported to a different time and definitely out of Tampa. The restaurant is spotless which I love. The open air kitchen is a wonderful thing as well because you can see everything. It's fast, efficient and super clean back there. Food is always a thoughtful presentation with the flavors to justify the price. Some of my favorites are the Beef tartar, the Beef Carpaccio, The Salmon tar tar, flat breads, salads and mussels. We really love a variety so we tend to do more appetizers and share for the tables. Having said that, the meals are plentiful, fresh and authentic as well. The servers are trained WELL. What a nice feeling to have both great food AND service. Sounds simple right? Well lately, it's getting harder to find the type of service I feel is important. Wine list is abundant and cocktails are both creative and strong. I have never gone wrong with any adult libation here. Dessert - Oi. They have a chocolate cake that was larger than my head. It should come with 6 spoons. Great to share with a table but way overkill for just 2 people. They should have a half serving on it. They do have demi desserts which are much easier on the waistband and a nice sweet ending. Arrive on certain evenings and there is usually a fantastic jazz group. Wonderful ambiance, nice people watching and delish food. I am very happy Timpano's is still alive and doing well.

This place is amazing! You must go for Sunday brunch and order the $15 all you can drink mimosas and sit at the bar. This isn't your average mimosa.. The bartender Abraham makes each one very unique. From pineapple with grand marnier to the cucumber and then the old fashioned inspired mimosa! Absolutely delicious!! Not to mention the homemade apricot whip cream that comes on the waffles is to die for! You must check this place out!

Timpano's has been on my list of places to visit for quite some time now, based on recommendations from other yelpers as well as a friend of mine who works there as a bartender. Mind you, this place is a bit fancier than where I would normally go, but last night was a special occasion (anniversary dinner for the man and I) so we made reservations for 2 and decided to venture out for a swanky evening. When we arrived, the host was friendly, efficient and brought us to our table right away. The server promptly greeted us after, but we needed a few moments to browse the wine list so we asked him to return shortly. When he came back, we ordered a glass of commodore wine and a malbec red wine as well as the tuna poke appetizer. As we settled in, I noticed the environment in the restaurant had a great feel to it. The live jazz band that was playing added a nice touch, that was one of the reasons we chose this place to begin with. The app and wine were delivered to us quickly. We both enjoyed our wine and the appetizer was tasty as well. I'm not one to eat raw tuna often, but it was well seasoned and had a good consistency, so that was a winner. Next we split the watercress & arugula salad, which was brought out to us on 2 small plates (Bonus points when a restaurant does that without me having to ask them to split it). That was really tasty as well, had a great mix of flavors. For our entrees, he chose the chicken marsala and I ordered the sea scallops with polenta and asparagus. The server gave him a choice of spaghetti or a vegetable side with the marsala and he went for the spaghetti. When our meals came out, I was a bit surprised to see that my meal only came with 3 small scallops on a scoop of polenta and some overcooked asparagus. I'm not normally one to eat all of my meal when I go out, I almost always have leftovers, but this was such a small portion I ate it all up even with the apps and salad that we had first. Mind you, the scallops were very tasty, but for $25 I would expect a bigger portion. Sadly, he said his chicken marsala was a poor quality; it had no taste, the spaghetti was a big gloppy hunk of noodles and to top it off they even charged extra for the spaghetti. Who charges extra for noodles at an italian restaurant when they are traditionally included with the dish anyway? As a final touch, the server knew we were celebrating a special occasion, so they brought us out a slice of tiramisu to share, which was indeed delicious. Some of the best tiramisu I've ever had. This helped to redeem the poor chicken marsala experience a bit. Overall, the service was good, the food was tasty for the most part and the ambience was upscale yet relaxing, so those were all good points. Based on the few negative points with the small portion size of my meal and the poor quality of his, we have arrived a total score of 3 stars for Timpano's. I've heard great things about their weekend brunch and mimosas, so may consider returning for that sometime.

A friend and I randomly came to eat here for brunch. We loved the atmosphere, it wasnt generic like Olive Gardens or Maggianos. We loved how there was an actually person playing the piano. I got the Sinatra and Mimosa, delish! I was stuffed! But since I am a avid fan of dessert, I had to try theres, I tried a shot of there tiramasu, no eyes rolling back, but good. I will definetely come back!

So I went for my birthday, absolutely great birthday!! We had reservations but we had extra people show up. They easily accommodated us even though the place was packed. We sat by the piano. They were playing oldies by Sinatra, which I loved. Our server was excellent. The food was superb!!! I started with a Watercress & Arugula Salad, it was very fresh and tasty. For dinner I had Aged Hand Cut Filet topped with Gorgonzola, Sweet Cream Polenta & the Truffled Mac & Cheese. My mouth waters just writing it. Filet was cooked perfectly and the polenta & mac & cheese delish!! As full as I was, I knew I had to have dessert. Plus, my waiter brought it with a candle & had the piano player sing to me. The Vanilla Crème Brûlée was fantastic & the Chocolate Mouse Layer Cake to die for (and huge). My night was complete!!!!!!! Can't wait to go back.

Awesome, fresh food. Love the raw bar. Fresh bread with tomato/EVOO/basil is delicious. Bread pudding dessert is heavenly. Live music for dinner. Friendly staff. Perfect for nice, midprice dinner. Patio seating. Great for groups. Good atmosphere.

We ate here at around 5PM on 22 Nov 2014. We had reservations for 2 and were seated promptly - it was still early and fairly empty. We got the calamari for an appetizer - it was trash along with the red dipping sauce. Truly trash. It was like chewing on rubber bands and the red dipping sauce was tasteless. For my entrée I had the rib eye with 1 side (asparagus) and 1 topper (shrimp). The Rib eye was amazing. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had, which is good since it was priced just under $50 by itself. The asparagus were good. The 4 medium sized shrimp were nothing special and no where near worth the $15 they cost as a topper. The three stars are for the steak, the drinks, and the server we had. To be fair, we ate early and the server wasn't that busy. Regardless, he was friendly and attentive. The best thing they have going is that Rib eye, it was that amazing. It made up for the pathetic attempt at Calamari and Shrimp as a topper. I will come again for sure to get the Rib eye and asparagus and to have a drink or two. Great location - nice atmosphere - great ribeye. Cost: 2 drinks, calamari for an appetizer, ribeye main dish, asparagus as a side, 4 shrimp topper was over $100.

This place has a nice ambiance, but that is only the thing going for it. We came here once for Sunday brunch and once for drinks and desert. We'll never come back. The food is middle of the road and is way overpriced. Their house pinot noir tastes like my middle school gym locker and we didn't even order desert after the bartender brought out a presentation of lollipops and deserts in shot glasses. If you are going to open a wannabe swanky restaurant in a nice neighborhood, then please bring something to the table worth eating and drinking.

Last Saturday I talked my boyfriend into trying a Bloody Mary bar. We arrived @ 3:30pm & the BM Bar was closed (website stated it closed at 4pm, but they actually close it at 2pm). Our waiter was slow to greet us and take our drink order. The server did apologized and also sent a manager by shortly after we got our first round of drinks. We explained to the manager that everything was ok and the server had already apologized, but she still insisted on buying our first round of made to order Bloody Mary's. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and beef carpaccio. Our food was exceptional, the beef carpaccio was one of the best I've had and I order it every time I see it on a menu. Timpanos has patio seating & the neighborhood is ideal for an indulgent Sunday afternoon complete with shopping. It's difficult to find a restaurant that takes the customer's satisfaction seriously. We will be back thanks to the professionalism, great drinks, and a well prepared meal.

The mussels appetizer is a must! That is a meal by itself for me unless I split it. Great deserts, good music, friendly and efficient service, and great location. Haven't made it yet to ladies night on Tuesdays but do want to check that out sometime.

Had great reviews by our friends. So we went, were seated timely and professionally. We ordered our wine and waited 20 mins for them to tell us they don't have it. Then he said they would look once more and then did find a case so another 5 minutes of waiting, finally. Nice bottle we could sip and start to enjoy the dinner experience. Apps came, dinner came, still no bread on the table, we were disgusted by then and didn't car anymore. Nice ambience, music, nice place - under par re service and attention to detail ruined the experience, Really ! twenty minutes until you can Cha Ching and sip wine, ruins your anticipation and plays with your head. Got disgusted and never asked for the bread. Oh, in ending, we were looking for Parking and found it for free a half block away, after going around once, very frustrating because when we pull in we see empt spots that say reserved for valet service. After finding a legal spot we leave the garbage and see the restaurant with the valet guy comfortably sitting down where no one can see him....should have know then there was trouble.

Love this place! It's absolutely amazing. Wonderful atmosphere and great live music. The most amazing veal chop ever. The stripped bass is very good as well! Can't miss out on this place. You won't be disappointed.

Went down to Tampa for a football game with my bro. Had some time to kill before the game so we stumbled upon this spot. So let's start out by saying they have a nice outdoor patio in the front for people watching and the drinks were fine, no beer taps which is a bummer and nothing on the bottle list that was very exciting. Guinness and 90 Minute Dogfish head, but I'd say steer clear next time you are in Hyde Park. Here's were everything gets crazy. It was quiet on Friday afternoon and just wanted drinks and dozen oysters. The oysters took like 20 minutes to arrive and they weren't detached, digging at the foot is not why I spend $2 a pop. Waiter was sorry and brought them back cut. After enjoying the first couple I look down to see something I've never seen before and I eat a lot of oysters. There's a living translucent anthropoid in one of the oysters, it was small but you could definitely tell that it had been munching away for awhile on the Bluepoint. Yikes! The kitchen had two chances to see this and didn't. They took half of the oysters off the bill but we barely ate half of them. Scary stuff I tell you. Avoid this spot.

Ok this is hard for me. I have been a Timpanos fan for quite sometime. In fact, this is the very first restaurant we moved to Tampa. The atmosphere is great, the martinis are great, the wine selection is not the greatest. Why three stars though? My past experience, the service was extremely slow. 1 1/2 hours for lunch in the middle of the week when we were one of four tables is not ok. I got my standard, something I crave from Timpano's - the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. In the past, this had three types of cheese on it (menu still indicates this). It's usually mind blowing. This time, I got bread similar to texas toast and one piece of cheese. It really let me down. My lunch companion got a salad which was good but to be honest, I talked this place up a lot and it really didn't pan out this time around. I will give it another try but I will not rush back anytime soon.

A South Tampa tradition. Of all the restaurants that have come and gone in Hyde Park, this is still standing through the ups and downs. Hope it stays around! Best times to go: Sunday at noon: Surprisingly good and laid back brunch. Thursday happy hour: Good appetizers ($5 menu), strong drinks, and it's not too crowded to sit at the bar.

I can't remember what I ate here (some type of pasta), but the food was not what was memorable for me. I took my leftovers home and when I ate them the next morning, there was a piece of metal inside my food (I ate it straight from the box, and I know the piece of metal was from the restaurant/dish). I ended up choking on it briefly before I was able to spit it out. I e-mailed the restaurant manager to let him know what happened. My date from the night before also called the restaurant. First the manager accused my date of lying. Then he eventually said that he would respond to my email and apologize to me. That was about 9 months ago, and I still haven't received an email from the restaurant. I will never go here ever again. NOT recommended.

Prior to my reservation, I made accommodations with the General Manager to secure our favorite table, and our favorite server. All requests were met with enthusiasm. We were seated and greeted within three minutes by Ana, who always proves to be knowledgeable and confident in her food and beverage suggestions. We began our meal with Timpano's signature appetizer, Mussels with Lobster Butter & Sea Salt. A food runner dressed in perfect attire approached quickly with a sizzling skillet near over flowing with the tasty black barnacles. The sound and aroma of the plate was so inviting, we finished with haste, and used the grilled brioche to soak up any remanence of the lobster butter. From their our culinary journey took us to Tuscany as we shared a bowl of the Pasta Bolognese. Slow Cooked Beef, Veal, Pancetta. Tomato Sauce, Spaghettini and Grana Padano grace the plate in abundance, even for a split entree! At $13 you can't beat the value, this is a meal that I'd be happy to (and oftentimes expect to!) pay over $20 for. Perfectly temperate, with a gentle steam of heat carrying the aroma of Italian herbs into the air. With a full belly, and our bottle of La Crema empty, we finished the meal with espresso. Ana thanked us as she drifted back to the kitchen, the hostess thanked us as we floated out the door, and the valet, Paul, already had our car pulled around and running. If you're looking for a great night out, where people truly understand hospitality - Timpano's is your best bet.

The hubs and I ended up stopping by this place on Friday night when we couldn't get into a movie at Cinebistro across the street. It was 6:30 (we were trying to catch a movie, not the early bird special!), and had no problem getting a table immediately. While we were inside it filled up pretty quickly. It has a nice atmosphere and the bar area looked like a cool place to sit and be seen. We ordered the Tuscan flat bread to share before our meals arrived. We both really enjoyed it! The sausage on top was awesome and the crust was really flat and crispy. For our entrees, I ordered the buttermilk sirloin and truffle mac and cheese and the hubs ordered the lasagna. My steak was nicely cooked but nothing special in my opinion. The mac and cheese also didn't do too much for me. I thought it could have used a lot more cheese. The lasagna on the other hand probably had enough cheese to fulfill a cheese addict's cravings for a year. It was rich, creamy and delightful, but seemed like it would get really old after a few bites. J ate like 3 pieces of bread to break of the taste. Overall it was a good meal, but not great. They have an extensive raw bar and homemade pasta which I think we will try if we go back.

Timpano has one of my favorite bars in Tampa - we love to go sit there and have martinis and appetizers. We usually prefer to do that over having dinner - their mussels are the best! Ladies, there is a great Ladies Night with $2 martinis on Tuesday nights...be prepared for a big crowd!

Here's my long overdue for my 2 visits here... Overall, I love Timpano's- they have my favorite mussels in the area and I love their Grand Mimosas. We have been here only for brunch, so I can't talk about dinner, but besides the mussels, the food is good, not mind-blowing- we had salads and a burger. However, I would go back again and again for those mussels and I am curious to try dinner. Service was great both times we were there. I would give them 3.5 stars, but since that's not an option, it's going to 3.

My husband and I ate here for our Valentine's Day dinner before catching a movie at CineBistro across the street. Our reservation was for 5:45 p.m. so while it was somewhat busy, it wasn't crazy. At first, we were sat at a tiny table practically in the aisle (we weren't entirely convinced this table was normally used) so we moved to a larger one. The service was good and the food was all right, but nothing was particularly remarkable. Considering the price and the location, we had a certain expectation, but we were left feeling slightly disappointed. I ordered one of the pasta specials expecting a large (Italian style) plate of cheese and spinach ravioli. Unfortunately, the server had not mentioned there was shrimp (which I don't like). Instead, I had a small plate of four or five raviolis and plenty of untouched shrimp. The ravioli itself was fine, but nothing to write home about. Overall, I wasn't impressed and don't see any reason to spend that much money on a second trip.

This was the best brunch I've had in some time. I had the bloody Mary bar as well as the Sinatra breakfast. The food along with the awesome staff made this one of the more enjoyable spots while on my vacation. I will be back that's for sure

Great happy hour with live music that makes the place have some class. The appetizers are fantastic but the food is expensive and I am not sold on it's overall quality. High priced, but not top notch. There are equal if not better places to eat throughout Tampa.

One of my favorite places in Tampa! The host is great, the staff is always very accomodating and the service is wonderful. Great atmosphere, too! Their steaks are divine, and who doesn't love live music on the weekends?

This is a great place we stop randomly at for appetizers and a few drinks. It looks like they changed the menu a bit since the last time we were in but the meatball (wasn't on the menu tonight), skillet shrimp, and I believe it's called the Ahi tuna carpaccio appetizers, are very good. As busy as it gets on a Friday night the bartenders never miss that lost look you might get when you need another drink when you're sitting at the bar. Kim is a great bartender, easy going personality even when it's 3 people deep busy. We will definitely be that regular random couple for good food, drinks and live music.

Classy, clean, lively atmosphere. Food was delicious. My 8oz filet was cooked perfectly and tasted on par with Bern's. Expensive dishes but worth it. Very crowded on weekend nights. My only complaint is that the tables are so close, the place feels cramped.

I stopped in to Timpano with a friend for lunch on a Monday afternoon. I'd never dined at Timpano before, and was excited to sit down to lunch. I enjoyed the BLT salad. It was like a BLT and a caprese salad got together and made a very delicious baby. I don't know which part was my favorite: the house made mozzarella, the MAPLE CAJUN BACON slices, the fresh tomatoes, the arugula...it was a glorious combination. I officially want to make a return visit and try more of their menu because the food was delish. However, my one hesitation was the service on that day. Our waiter was very very nice, but we were one of maybe 4-5 tables eating lunch at that time (it was dead in there) and I think we were there for a little under 2 hours from start to finish. I'm all for a leisurely lunch, but seeing as I only ordered a salad and my buddy ordered soup/sandwich, I didn't see why everything took so darn long! We weren't in a big hurry so it wasn't a problem, and I would definitely like to return to try them out at dinner time!

We enjoy coming here occasionally for drinks and appetizers. It has very nice atmosphere and there's often a band playing. It's nice to sit out by the patio when the weather cools off. We really love the mussels but the entrees can be hit or miss. This is on top of our list for upscale "drink and appetizers - going out" restaurants.

Went here for the first time on a double date after hearing good things about it around town. The food was fantastic for all of us, including quite possibly the best porkchop I have ever eaten. Very busy atmosphere, but the ambiance was great. There was a live band with an incredible female vocal who walked around and sang at a table of women celebrating a birthday. Very fun. I highly recommend this spot and have already made another reservation for our Anniversary!

I like this place in theory. Great location.. neighborhood joint which makes me want to like it more. Food and atmosphere are good... music was WAY to loud. No one could have a conversation. The bar and bartenders are top notch BUT they were extremely understaffed on a Saturday night. Because of this our waitress never once checked on this because she was over sat. I didn't blame her for this, but our service suffered. Biggest grip was the snotty hostess.Tip to the management, a little customer service training at the door might be a nice investment.

Good location, pretty good vibe / atmosphere for a chain. The main reason I'm writing this review is for the Mussels. They are amazingly simple and addictive. They cook them with some oil and plenty of sea salt in an extremely hot skillet then bring the handled skillet right out to your table and squeeze lemon. Sounds simple, but the end product is nothing short of addictive. I also really like the seafood platter or tower... it is supposed to be an appetizer for 4, but 2 people can split it for dinner and it's a relatively healthy option. Seriously, the mussels alone are reason enough to drop by this place. I wouldn't necessarily go here for steak, just because there are so many other options for steak in the Bay area. Cons, you either have to valet or park in the nearby garage. Not a huge deal, but still. Also, it can get busy and the service can be a tad slow. Even with reservations, your group will typically end up waiting at the bar for about 15-20 minutes.

Had a graduation dinner for my sister here with the whole family (6) ppl. The decor and the atmosphere was great, they had the whole classy italian vibe thing down! However, it was extremely crowded and we felt as if they were trying to fit as many people in that place as possible. We could not hear a word anyone was saying - the live music was a nice touch - but should be outside. I would like to come back when it is not a busy, I am sure it would be better experience in terms of the crowd. Great date place - very intimate. The food was ok, for the price you pay I would expect better. I got the truffle mushroom pasta with chicken. Everything about the dish was wonderful except for the chicken, it was very dry and rubbery - not good! I suppose I should have tried the Mussels! Other than that everything else was good - the service was good!

We couldn't have been happier! Great atmosphere and even better food. I had the bolognese and he had the cioppini. Both were delicious and the best meal we have had out since we moved to Florida. My mom is from italy and I grew up eating Italian so i can be a bit snobby when it comes to my pasta dishes. I rarely eat Italian out and when i do I'm often disappointed. But I have to say that this place was great! We will definitely stop back in for dinner the next time we are in Tampa.

This is a good chain restaurant with a great neighborhood feel. The Sinatra bar is hopping on Tuesday night with a 30+ crowd. And this is one of the few places in Tampa where you can actually dine on a great meal al fresco! Their steaks are generally great as is their salmon and sea bass. For something on the lighter side, try their flat-bread pizza and their watercress & arugula salad. I am not a big fan of their desserts or their pasta. They also feature great live music almost every night. This is a good place to find me since i come here often!!!

I went to Timpano with a good girl I have been seeing and her freinds for one of her birthday meals. I had been to Timpano before for their cocktails. I must say I remember being impressed. Their real legacy obviously lies within their meal. We had made reservations to the restaurant the day of and ended up getting seated approximately 20-30 minutes after our supposed reservations. The gentleman who appeared to hold a high standing in the establishment was very apologetic and offered to buy us a nice bottle of wine for our troubles. I am not a wine drinker personally but thought it was a classy gesture as it would appease not only my girl but her lovely friends. The seating situation was awkward. There were (i need a moment to think here) six of us in our party and we were seated in a U shaped table. It was fine at first - probably sounds comfortable but the ambient noise was so loud it was tough for me to hear across the table for things that may be being said about me from my girl sitting next to me. Its ok though... the place was busy since it was around valentines. I did notice, however, that the seats were uncomfortable and were obnoxiously at at 90 degree angle. Also I felt the table was way too far away. The combination of the two really took away from the experience. I ordered the lasagna. Holy $h!t... great dish. It was a celebration of flavors. Becareful... dont touch the plate... its hot. I did not learn that the hard way though. Their deserts choices were great. They had an assortment of choices. They had this one desert that came in what looked like popsicles of various flavors. Turns out they were different cheesecakes of sorts. Pretty impressive. However, my date thought they were very unusual and wanted nothing to do with them. I dont really care either way. I dont like sweets and prefer to keep sucking on the peronis that kept getting poured into my glass. I took note of their bathroom setup. It was very good (for guys anyway). You get alot of privacy. They were kept clean and you didnt have to bother with some useless bathroom attendant. All in all I liked this place. I think they treat their customers very well. The service was excellent and the staff was courteous. Nevermind the seating situation... youll have a good time here. Great place for a nice little romantic date. Enjoy yourself.

I was terribly disappointed with Timpano. I choose this restaurant for my birthday dinner and wish I had not. My first impression of the restaurant was great. We were greeted and seated right away. The waiter came over right away, things went down hill from that point on. There were many items my fiancee and I were interested in that they did not have. My fiancee ordered three different types of beers, all of which the waiter assured they had, before my fiancee settled for whatever the waiter brought to the table. I don't remember what we ordered for appetizers (not a good sign) and both our entrees were sub par. The band playing provided entertainment, but they were also not very good.

I had a great meal here the only time I visited. It was the chef's special and it was a pumpkin ravioli with a spicy pecan cream sauce. Absolutely amazing. Good food value as well. This place is in the Hyde Park area which is a great place to spend an evening. The service and food was great and i totally recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will also be back!

I've eaten here several times and had a great experience. However, last nights visit was sub-standard at best. The noise from the private party in bar area was almost unbearable, thankfully the band was great and able to drown out most of it. The service was acceptable, the food left a lot to be desired. The spinach-artichoke formaggio was good, the flatbread dippers were stale, both orders. My boyfriend loved the spinach salad, the lettuce in my cesar salad was bruised and rusty as if it had been prepared days in advance and the dressing was incredibly bland. He ordered the lobster and shrimp ravioli, which was undercooked, while the shrimp that topped it was overcooked. I had the short ribs, which I had several times before and loved it. This time the ribs were very tough and the risotto was bland and so overcooked it resembled rice pudding. I couldn't help notice that the executive chef spent more time flirting with the hostess than in the kitchen. Perhaps his time would've been better spent inside the kitchen to oversee the food that has his name on it. Overall the best part of the meal was the wine and bread basket.

Oh my, what an unfortunate experience. Set right on the edge of the up-and-coming Hyde Park Village, one would expect a restaurant to want to have their guest COME BACK to a potentially upscale neighborhood. Maybe I went there on a bad day, or maybe the owners who have at least 50 other Timpanos' spread over the country just don't care about lunch, who knows, but the meal was awful. The clearly overworked waitress was nice enough to me (the poor guy she spilled sparkling wine all over the next table over wasn't so lucky) and she only rolled her eyes a little when I sent back the crunchy-around-the-edges, pine nut ravioli that was lukewarm, at best, and drowned in a creamy tomato-like substance. I got the spinach salad instead, which was overly dressed in a flavorless olive oil based sludge. There was barely a half a piece of bacon in the mix and the red onion was way over abundant. If there was some redeeming quality to the place it was the friendly host (manager ??) that sat me, although I probably disturbed him from the racing sheet when I walked in. I only chose it because there were plenty of people there when I passed by on my way to Restoration Hardware. I may go back just because I hate to judge a place on just one visit but man, right now, I'm headed for the tums.

Good food, nice atmosphere. Too bad the construction makes it look closed right now. Friendly staff. Been there twice once for dinner once for brunch. Dinner was a good scene. Brunch was Bro city. They started a LOUD burpee (up-down) competition a few tables over, everyone got into it and had fun, but management kind of sat back and let it happen.

Timpano's is a great place for Sunday afternoon brunch or dinner. It can be a little pricy, depending on what you want to order, but the food is delicious. One of my favorite things for brunch is the crab cake Benedict. YUM. A few nights ago we went for dinner and I had the shrimp fra diavolo (or something like that). It had a delicious rosa cream sauce that packed the perfect amount of heat and shrimp that were cooked just right. No matter when we go we always order the fried mozzarella appetizer. It comes with one of the best marinara dipping sauces I've ever had. The service is always fantastic as well.

I've been craving for some great authentic Italian cuisine so I was excited to accept lunch reservations here. The hostess was pleasant and seated is near a window as requested but we had the misfortune of sitting near two loud and trash-mouthed girls (thankfully they left before of food arrived). The staff should have asked them to stop swearing or quite down a little. Anyway, I order the veal & mushroom rigatoni and was slightly disappointed. The flavor was good but the "sauce" was watery. I just expected more. Oh & I also has ye crab cake appetizer...although I enjoyed the relish I've had better can cakes. Nice place but not worth the drive in my opinion.

Went to dinner here for my birthday tonight. Made reservations for 7:30. We were promptly seated at a small table for 2 (which is fine). The table was up against the window and the sun was literally right in my eyes. I asked the hostess if there was anything she could do as far as covering the window and she said she would see. The server (Adam) told us that there was nothing to cover the window, he's asked a million times but management hasn't come up with a resolution. Here's my resolution - don't sit people at that table when the sun is setting.... Also, they cram far too many tables in a small area. So, the manager came and asked if we would like to move to a different table, which we did and appreciated. This table was now close to the live band ...so dinner conversation was slim to none :(. Although the live band was nice ...a tad loud. We ordered an appetizer (calamari) which was good and came out quick. I then ordered the chicken piccata and asked for a side of pasta with it (as it doesn't come with any pasta or any other sides). Our food came out and I took a few bites and realized that they served me veal piccata. I asked the server if this was veal and he said yes, that's what he heard me say. I don't eat red meat so I know I didn't say veal. He asked if I wanted him to take it back for chicken and I said no (I did not want to wait for a whole extra meal to be made again) and just swapped with my boyfriend (chicken parm). The dinner entrees were mediocre ... Nothing to brag about. The piccata tasted nothing like your normal piccata dish- looked and seemed more like Marsala. The server was so weeded ..we barely saw him. I understand they moved us from his section so we were away from the rest of his tables, but if you can't handle that then just let the other server take us. My boyfriend never once got a refill on his water or asked if he wanted another beer. We ordered dessert ...the cookie. It was taking a while, but we didn't mind or say anything. The server came up and told us the kitchen burnt the first one so they were making a second and he was sorry for the wait. The cookie came out shortly after and was decent....still burnt though. We then waited about 20 minutes before we saw our server -- who I actually had to flag down to get our check . The manager actually came to our table (because he probably noticed we have been sitting there forever) and Asked if we were ok and needed our check... The server shortly after came speeding to our table, dropped the check and went back to the party in his section. At this time, we were ready to go, as we had been there an hour and a half. When the bill came, I noticed the server didn't even have the order changed from veal piccata to chicken piccata ($6 difference). Which truly isn't a huge deal, but you think with all of the issues, they would either change the bill to reflect what I originally ordered or remove the cookie .($9)...something. I probably won't be returning here. The service was not good and the food was mediocre , especially for how pricey it was. Happy birthday to me...

I came to Timpano's after having one of the biggest days in my business career. After a quick workout at the gym, my biz partner and I went to get some steaks, appetizers, and drinks at Timpano's (so we were wearing athletic shorts) When we walked in-- the general manager stared us down like we were entirely in the wrong place. After being seated, the same general manager denied my business partners ID (he's 27 years old) We then argued with that same general manager for a few minutes before he literally told me that he would "rip me a new one" At that moment, we got up and left. Horrible experience. Horrible place. Horrible service.

Italian food isn't my "go-to" cuisine but like all cultural cuisines, I can appreciate the history and love that goes into the food. This place is no exception. The food here is pretty darn good. I came here for a friend's birthday and I'll admit that I probably wouldn't have come here under any other circumstance, but I'm sure glad I did. A few of the items that were ordered were Veal & Wild Mushroom Rigatoni, Salmon Tartare, and Mussels. The rigatoni, which was recommended by our server, had a great depth of flavor. The veal was tender, wild mushrooms added earthiness, and the al dente pasta all balanced nicely with the roasted garlic cream sauce. The salmon tartare had a beautiful presentation and the capers added nice tartness and acidity. The mussels looked great and fresh. Despite our large group of 10, the service was excellent and attentive. The great food combined with the nice wine selection, classy ambiance, and buzzing dining room makes this place great for any occasion whether it be a casual group outing or date-night.

Tuesday night = ladies night! There are a few $3 martini and wine specials. Also, live music. The ambiance is fantastic. The band was very good and upbeat...a little too loud though. I had the crispy chicken. It wasn't really crispy, just grilled skin, which was delish! A little on the pricey side, but very good for an evening out.

Amazing food and drinks! My girl and i were at the aquarium and came here on a whim. I had Tuscan flat bread and she had the grilled cheese. We eat out 5+ Times a week and she had the best tomato soup we've ever had. The drinks are strong and the ambiance is eclectic. Would recommend to anyone traveling to the area. The waitress (Mercedes) was super sweet and genuine and we couldn't have asked for more polite service.

Great Atmosphere , good service , I have went there for brunch which was very good and moderately priced along with the unlimited mimosas , I have also been there to have dinner which also was very good , I had the beef tartare for an appetizer which was tasteful then proceeded to have the seared scallops with polenta and asparagus also delicious . I will be going there again , also try the Cucumber Martini it was very refeshing.

I want to give this place 3.5 stars. We dined here on a Saturday night and it was PACKED. We started as a party of six, with a reservation, but wound up only being four. My boyfriend and I arrived early and were seated but the server didn't come to greet us for a good five to ten minutes. I'm not sure if that's because we were not a full party, in which case, they shouldn't have seated us, or if the server was just too busy. Once we were greeted it took a while to get our drinks. Again, I'm going with the fact that this place was jammed. Our friends arrived and it took a few more minutes to get their drinks. The server was nice but you could tell he was in the weeds. The best part about this place was our food. It was truly delicious. Had our service matched I'd have given this place a higher score. I've eaten here before and not had this issue so I'm guessing it's a 50/50 shot. My lasagna was so so so good that I ate it as left overs the next day and I rarely eat leftovers. My boyfriend loved his crispy chicken and the wedge salad I had as an app was perfect.

Had brunch there last weekend for my Dad's 75th birthday party. My wife and three kids walked into the restaurant to be greeted by a hostess and a host wearing a bow tie. The hostess asked how many of us there were, and that time there were five of us so I said 5. She must have said how many children as well but I did not hear because the man in the bowtie said something like "OH you mean three kids and two adults who act like kids... ha ha ha." Not funny, kind of a stupid joke actually, but I did not respond to his attempt at humor. Then when we arrived at the table my parents were already sitting and we were trying to figure out who was going to sit where and I think my mother suggested a specific seating arrangement such that it would be easier to manage the six children and then Bow Tie man added something link " OH you mean to keep the families separate ? ha ha - implying that the families don't get along or something which isn't our situation. Again, stupid joke slightly irritating comments when we are about to sit down and enjoy a brunch. Now on to the brunch. 40 minutes after sitting down and ordering our food finally arrives. I noticed that other tables seated after us were already eating their orders. I ordered a Chicken Cesar Salad and it was slightly less than average. Dried thin chicken, not so fresh or tasty. Meh, I've experienced much better than this place.

I was excited to eat dinner here with another couple Friday night. We walked in and the atmosphere was awesome! The live music was great and the decor was nice too. Our drinks were fine and apps were really good too. We had the fried cheese and meatballs. However, I was disappointed with our entrees. It was like the chef forgot to season them :( We had the chicken Marsala and Osso Bucco. Neither was seasoned well and tasted bland. Hoping this was just a fluke because we really enjoyed the atmosphere. May have to just come back for drinks and apps next time though.

Great drinks and appetizers. The osso buco was fantastic. However, the chicken marsala was bland, which was very disappointing given the price and the fact that the restaurant boasts Italian fare. Great location and ambience. They normally have live music on weekends, though the band was sick the night we went in. Good service, and worth a stop for a date night or a fancy dinner.

Stopped in here without a reservation on a Tuesday evening for our party of 7 and were immediately served outside as there were no open tables for over 2.5 hours without one... We planned to visit to take advantage of the "Ladies night" and happy hour specials, but no fear! Specials were honored on the patio as well. The decor is clean lines and contemporary, mostly dark rich colors, but not too dark. The bar spans across the entire back wall of the restaurant. To begin, I ordered the (cliche') seasonal special - Pumpkin-tini. This was good, but I feel like it needed a little more pumpkin and a little more spice. It was sweet and had a light flavor, but doubt I'd order this one again. The mixed green salad is huge! Enough for two to share. Fresh greens tossed in a balsamic/evoo dressing with tomato and light sprinkling of cheese. This was great to start or as a side. Munchies call for flatbread and the quatro formaggio flatbread was awesome. Nicely spiced and plenty of melty cheese goodness, I ate my entire plate that is normally made to share! (see pics) Our server was very nice and attentive and quick to bring out anything we needed. Would love to visit here again for a dinner inside.

As always my wife's roasted salmon was excellent. The NY strip steak, which is usually great, and although my steak was very tasty, sadly it was some what chewy & not tender. I should have returned it, but did not. So I really can't make too much an issue of this as that's my fault. Their steaks are usually exceptional. I must say that their tiramisu was fantastic! So despite the glitch with my steak, this is still a great restaurant.

Friday night was date night for Mr. And I. I had 3 olive martini's and spaghettini with plum tomatoes. Big city martini and osso bucco for Mr. Our awesome waiter was Joe and the live music was awesome!

This review is hard to write since I came here with a group of friends during for a Bachelor party so I was a little woozy during the entire night. Here is what I remember... The food was great. The steak was delicious. The only thing that sucked was the fact that the side items were a la carte so it will run you up a bit. The cocktails were very good too, haha. The staff was friendly and the location is great. I would definitely go back.

I just can't seem to eat here without ordering their mussels. Hot, sizzling, salty, lemony, delicous. When I'm watching what I eat, I just order the mussels and a side of steamed broccolini. Follow it up with a movie across the street, and you've got a great, no fuss night out!

Came here last night for a drink with the family. The place was pretty busy around 5pm with people, getting busier as the night came. Tuesdays are ladies night so there was a large crowd. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and a chill guy. I had a Flirtini...a good drink for those who don't really enjoy the taste of alcohol recommended by the bartender and it turned out to be pretty good. It's made with champagne and doesn't contain as much vodka. The people there ranged in age, but were mostly middle-aged. Anywhere from 30s-50s. Not rowdy, but classy and refined. The restaurant is wide-open so you can see all the people having dinner as well. I really like the atmosphere and lighting in the restaurant...it just feels fancy. They have live music at night and the guy singing had a pretty good voice and played a few songs I actually knew, including some songs by Oasis. We got hungry towards to the end of our drinks and ordered their BBQ Short Ribs flat-bread pizza and it was delicious. The toppings (especially the meat and mushrooms) were savory and what tasted like olive oil on it was perfect. I really enjoyed the food, drinks, and service. I'd come here again for drinks or dinner. Yelp Tip: Ask the hostess for the Wi-Fi password and you can get on their wifi network with your iPod Touch or iPhone. I love checking in at places so this is my main use for using the internet while on the go. Love a place that offers it.

Ok. Nothing great. Very slow service for a not crowded Sunday afternoon. Got the impression we were a "low priority" at this place. The food was okay, but nothing great. I never once got a full glass of water as I got what was left in a pitcher after other tables. Last time!

I've gone here 2 or 3 times for drinks and to listen to the live Sinatra band. It's a cool place to chill and have some drinks with friends. They have good specials for drinks and apps. The band is awesome. It really creates a nice vibe and old world feel to the place. Can get loud on weekends, so it's not the best place for a quiet intimate dinner. I have never tried the real food (besides apps), but I've been meaning to. I hear the mussels are great.

This restaurant is really pretty. I like coming here for a drink and/or appetizer after the movie on the weekend. The servers are always friendly, the live music is nice, and the atmosphere is relaxing.

If you're in the area and like steak, go here. I was in Hyde Park and needed a place to eat for lunch. Happened upon this gem. I got the Peter Lawford (Petite Filet), and my partner got Frank Sinatra (Shrimp Cocktail). The filet was delicious. One of the best I've had. The portions were filling but small. The sweet ending desserts were similar to that of Seasons 52, I believe, the cakes shots. Those were pretty good. Overall, definitely worth the time. Few people were inside for lunch (most were outside), so the noise level was pretty low. The price is a bit high, but if you're in the area, might as well.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and my girlfriend and I just ventured out of a nearby lululemon store searching for the perfect place to eat and drink away any memory of all of the money spent. We found this Italian chophouse with a piano in the window and decided to give it a go. After being seated at a very nice table, we were greeted by a wonderful server, who was extremely knowledgeable and considerate to our requests. She recommended two excellent full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon to match our meal. Now the meal: For starters, she brought out this bread that was fresh out of the oven; so hot that when we "broke bread", it was an eruption of delicious steam that stimulated our sense of olfaction so much that we had to order seconds. My girlfriend has a rather odd sense of taste if you ask me (something she likes to call "refined"), and doesn't like blue cheese- but not to worry! Our delightful waitress was very accommodating as to split the salad in half and include the blue cheese on mine and put fresh Mozzarella on hers. As they have a renowned raw bar, I also ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was great as expected. For the main course, I ordered the Veal Parmigiana (which was originally chicken until she allowed me to substitute the veal) and she ordered the Chicken Piccata. Both were phenomenal and a testament to how extraordinary this restaurant is. In a place where great Italian food is limited, Timpano really takes the cake. Why 4 stars and not 5? They did not have Feta cheese for the salad that she wanted. They pride themselves on their hand aged meats, and since I did not order them I could not give them the 5 stars. I will for sure try it next time. Definitely a place to go for a great dinner, or even lunch. Enjoy!

Let me start by saying that I did not have a bad experience at Timpanos - the service was good and the atmostphere was quite schnazzy. Maybe that's the key here, I'm not a super schnazzy person. I like a more laidback feel with great food and reasonable prices. At Timpano, the menu is pretty limited and the prices are higher than I'm used to. There wasn't a lot of option for smaller places vs appetizers and the portion sizes were not that big. The food, tasty. The drinks, not so much. I ordered a pumpkin spice martini and it tasted like cream and vodka mixed - needed more pumpkin spince in the mix. All-in-all I'll come here for the atmosphere, especially if friends want to meet up I won't deny them, but I may not be apt to dine in often.

I'm really not sure why the rating isn't higher for this restaurant! We walked in for dinner on Friday evening and didn't want to wait so we sat at an open bar booth. Yes it was a little loud, but the live music was very enjoyable. I don't know of anywhere else in the area with this atmosphere. The service was super friendly and attentive. My man ordered his bone-in ribeye med/well (ugh) c'est la vie - it was delicious!!! And our server didn't even protest or roll her eyes! More importantly, she didn't ask to "butterfly" the poor thing. That's just offensive. The meat was still juicy and so flavorful. I ordered the spinach salad & tuna carpaccio - both good. Though, the tuna could have used more spice. I will order beef carpaccio next time. We have ordered steak take-out twice from this lovely restaurant, and both times we were blown away by the quality! Sooo delicious all three times we've ordered. True steak lovers- we have been sorely disappointed in Bern's, Sideberns, AND Charlie's recently. Cheers to the staff @ Timpanos :)

First time at Timpano Italian Chophouse. Great looking store. When we got inside we were surprised at the noise level I got a reading of 68 Decibels, pretty loud for a pricey Chophouse. We got there about 3:30 and were given a menu for lunch. I would have had a larger meal, but I the menu was so pricey for a lunch menu we just ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, $13.00. The presentation was great, but I've never been served less than 5 Shrimp. Timpano's only serves four Shrimp. They were fresh tasting. Our bill for lunch came to $40.00 with tip. Expensive lunch for us. They had a petite Fillet on the dinner menu for $30.00. Dinner for two at Timpano's could be close to $100.00 if you had a Salad, $8.00 and a Vegetable and Potato, with one or two drinks.

I was lucky enough to attend Timpano's for a #winedinetweet event and I honestly couldn't find anything wrong with this restaurant. Staff, manager and executive chef are out of this world nice and accommodating. The restaurant features a wide range of selections and something for everyone. Happy hour prices are great and there is always some event taking place, which is fun! I got to try all sorts of dishes during the event and I was completely blown away by every one. I recommend the Tuscan Egg dish and the Pork Osso Bucco. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The price point is reasonable and there is live music most, if not all, nights. Timpano's is a great date night location as well as a great place to meet some friends for drinks.

Timpano's always offers a fun and classy environment. Live piano music is available most evenings making this a great spot for a romantic date or fun night out with the girls. Tuesday nights are "ladies' night" and the restaurant offers house wine and select martinis for $3. The dinner menu is a tad pricey so if you want to try the food without denting your bank account check out brunch or lunch. The menu consists of Italian and American dishes. There are so many great seafood, pasta, and steak options on the menu. The Beef Carpacio appetizer is AMAZING. I order this almost every time I go to Timpano's for dinner as well as one of their delicious Lemon Drop martinins. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo is my favorite dish on the dinner menu because it has this creamy sauce with pine nuts and goat cheese - LOVE anything with goat cheese! Save room for dessert! The Tiramisu and Creme Brulee are to die for! Huge dessert portions so there is enough for two people to share.

I was in Tampa for a conference and stumbled upon this place while out for a walk with a friend. We sat at an outdoor table - it was a spectacular night for outdoor seating. The service was fantastic. I order the seared sea scallops - delicious. The live music was a real treat - female singer (beautiful voice) with a 4 piece band. She sang Nora Jones, Adele, and even a little Tom Petty. A perfect spot to eat well, have an engaging conversation with a friend, and really relax. I would certainly enjoy an evening here next time I am in South Tampa.

1st make reservations this place gets packed. For apps we got the mussels which were amazing salty, briny, smoky, they had a great taste. Also the tomato olive oil is great. I ordered the veal chopped with creamy polenta. The veal was cooked perfectly with a great char, and perfectly tender. The polenta was amazing with a hint of what tasted like maple. I would definitely recommend this dish

Stopped in for a quick bite and a drink. Would love to go back for dinner. Bartender forgot to put our order in so we were waiting quite a bit but he took it off our bill so we had no complaints and the food was good. Will be back for dinner. Also right on the edge of hyde village park so top off the evening with a nice stroll.

Excellent food, excellent setting. The only complaint would be the delay in service. The waiter was wonderful, he was just so busy we waited long periods of time between sitting, ordering, and receiving food and drinks. But overall, I left incredibly pleased and will return many times. My recommendations would be the meatball appetizer (to die for), the bone in ribeye is phenomenal, and the chicken parm was pretty great too. We also had dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives and they were AMAZING. 5 stars for food and atmosphere, just with the service was a little more spot on.

This place might not be five stars to some of you but for me it is. There are a few reasons for this but most importantly, I've never ever had a bad experience there. Timpano is located in my favorite part of Tampa (Hyde Park). There is a free parking garage right next to it and if you're like me, you may be able to convince your husband to drop you off at the front and then park the car (depending on how high your heels are). If you want to sit in the dining area Thur-Sat I would suggest making a reservation. If you call the day of in the afternoon you can usually get one but I wouldn't try just showing up at dinner. However, my husband and I LOVE to come without a reservation and just sit at the bar. Seriously, it's our favorite thing to do. There are TVs to watch sports games, very friendly and attentive waitresses/waitors and the food is always good. The food isn't like mind blowing, but it's all very tasty and consistent. They have a good drink selection (esp their martinis). On the weekends they have a musician(s) there so make sure if you make a reservation or sit at the bar to ask/not sit by the musicians because it may be able to hear each other.

Much better second experience but still left a lot to be desired. We were seated quickly and our order was taken quickly on a Sunday for lunch. The place was virtually empty at 11 a.m. though it was serving breakfast and the day was warm for outside cafe use. Woohoo! Cloth napkins and luxury inside. We ordered two salads which arrived overly wet. The arugula with candied pecans and champagne vinaigrette was tasty but a little oily and the apple slices had been soaked in lemon water and were SOUR so set aside. Waitress did not seem to care. The chop salad with romaine hearts and Italian dressing had great olives and roast peppers, but the dressing was "blah" and there was no salt or pepper to be found for the "sump'n sump'n" it needed. A slice of bread or cracker would've been nice. The sirloin accompaniment was cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. Everyone around us was ordering flatbreads or gourmet breakfasts with bloody marys or mimosas. One lady raved about her calamari. Fries came in a cute metal basket. This was the only thing we found open to eat at in Hyde Park. What happened to the days when you could walk to many choices of eating and drinking spots? It seems we can skip Hyde Park any more?

I enjoyed the Timpano's location in Naperville, IL when I lived there so had an idea of what to expect here. I wasn't disappointed. It has become my go-to spot for brunch on Sundays and works out nicely to start or end your shopping in Hyde Park Village. Steak with an Italian influence is their thing, so expect it to be done properly.

I really enjoy Timpanos! The food is delicious and the live entertainment is great. I prefer to go for brunch/lunch as dinner can get quite pricey because it's mostly a la carte and I enjoy the Bloody Mary it Mimosa bars before 2 on the weekends. At night when there is music the restaurant can get very loud and make having conversations hard but that's my only complaint. They have a great raw bar as well we love to take part in many of the offerings. The clams and mussels skillets are fantastic as well. All in all great place and worth a try just go prepared to spend a little bit.

Normally I would give this place 4-5 stars however today was a different story. I am a very understanding person.....I served at upscale restaurants for years but it was hard to overlook all the issues. They were very busy and my friends and I were understanding that service would be a little slow. The drinks and food took forever and each time something was brought to us something was incorrect. Our server was very nice and apologized and corrected the mistake. The food runner that brought drinks and food was very short and rude when we tried to explain the mistakes. You could tell she was frustrated with something or someone but you should never let the customers sense your frustration. I think the friendly server we had was the only thing that kept us there. All and all I will go back here again and hope that our overall experience is better.

Came here by myself when I was traveling, hadn't been to Hyde Park in almost 20 years so seemed like a fun destination. I sat at the bar and had a drink while I looked at the menu. The bartenders were friendly and chatty without being too invasive. I ordered a steak and risotto according to one of the bartender's suggestions. I've had much better steaks at "non steakhouse" restaurants. The chopped salad had been chopped a while before, the cherry tomatoes were soft and wilted. The risotto was very bland. The men's room had a very wet floor--you can guess what the wetness was from. Nasty. Nice staff, cool jazz combo, nice atmosphere. The $90 tab for a steak, a couple of sides and a couple drinks made it not even close to worth it for me. I'd come for a drink and to listen to the music, but I wouldn't eat here again.

I'll give this place another go, because I really had high hopes for it. Unfortunately the eggplant cannelloni was uber disappointing. The service and ambience was fabulous and everyone else did enjoy their dish including the salmon and scallops. So def try those, but not the eggplant dish.

Great service from front of house on through-- good sign of a well run impressive restaurant. Small but surprisingly comprehensive menu. Perfectly cooked scallops for me and fall off the bone osso Bucco for my date. No complaints, no hesitations to return in the future. Enjoy this one.

We made reservations through Yelp's Open Table link for 7pm. My wife and I arrived on a saturday night to be greeted by a very nice matre d. We were seated a 2-top right near the front door, which wasn't cozy or romantic, but we were also close to the piano/bandstand. The restaurant is fairly small, with a sort of integrated layout between the coziest booths and the bar and the band area. Not much separation, but a great atmosphere for a lively dining experience. Our server was Derrick, who was nice and knowledgeable about our many questions. We ordered a Poggione '09 Rosso Di Montalcino, which was awesome by the glass, but at $13 a glass, we rang up quite a liquor bill. There was no reduced bottle price. We first got some nice hot bread with a sun dried tomato/olive oil dip which neither of us cared for. After that was a mediocre caesar salad. In full disclosure, I am a caesar salad nut... I make my own from scratch and Im pretty picky about them. I probably shouldnt be ordering them out. There was a brownish tint to the dressing, which made me think they were heavy on the red wine vinegar. Nice anchovy taste, cheap parmesan (I feel you must use reggiano for the sweetness), and an overall vinegary balance. Cold crisp lettuce, which is a must. There was a hunk of lettuce core. My wife had the spaghettini with plum tomato sauce, which was unremarkable. I had a bite that she had just doused with hot peppers, so all I got was spiciness. I ordered the osso bucco, which I was very excited for, because the last three times Ive tried to ordered it, the restaurant was out. When it came to the table, I was even more excited, as the presentation was awesome, with the pork shank standing vertically in the bed of parmesan risotto. I have attached a photo of the plate. The pork was very tasty, and tender near the bone, but very dry. The risotto was under cooked but had a great flavor. The music was terrific, not too loud and perfect for an italiant restaurant.. sinatra/crooner style, with great musicians... a pianist on a baby grand with a Casio for the bass, a drummer with a small trap kit who mostly used brushes, and a tenor saxophonist. Great stuff, MADE the atmosphere. Some smoking grilled mussels crossed the restaurant quite a few times, catching our attention, and we were told they were known for them. Im giving 3 stars for an overall great experience, which would have been 4 if the osso bucco was better and the risotto was cooked.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
