Yummy! Greek salad is delicious! Surprisingly, had a potato salad on the bottom, gotta say very tasty. I had the chicken pita, bland chicken, but the gyro meat is better.

Ate here tonight, a great experience. I had the gryo with a side of potato salad. Husband got the pastichio with a salad. My gyro was great, with the only complaint being that I couldn't get it in my mouth because it was so stuffed with meat and veggies! The potato salad was just the way I like it, where the potatoes are whipped. My husband got the pastichio, which was HUGE. I think they may have given us a double helping! He loved it, and raved about the little greek salad they put on the side. Crunchy fresh vegetables and zippy dressing. Great value, great service, clean and fast. We will be back :)

Greek salads are great, but a little pricey. Guess you pay for being in Westchase.

Love their Gyros and double greek salads. I wish they offered the salad in a single size. We pick up dinner there often.

The food is very good. It's not the Acropolis but almost as good. It's a small restaurant on a strip mall with a good selection of greek salads, entrees, and side dishes. My wife and I get the chopped Greek salads with chicken, and with sodas we spend almost $30. That's a little bit pricey. Their gyros are under $8. I've had almost every item on the menu, and I can't say I found one I didn't like. I don't mind paying for food as long as it's fresh and tasty and good. Hungry Greek is all three. If you are a local or in the area and in the mood for Greek food, this is a good place to eat. If you have out of town guests and want to take them somewhere a bit nicer and still enjoy good Greek food, try Acropolis, particularly the one in Ybor. I am a local so I am a fan of Hungry Greek.

Best Greek food in Tampa Bay! The restaurant is clean, the service is great, and the food is excellent. They have the best tzatziki dip I have ever tasted. You no longer need to travel to Tarpon to get authentic Greek food.

I love everything about Hungry Greek. Their food is amazing, and their staff is extremely friendly. They also have a great rewards program that I take advantage of because of my frequent visits. They do both dine in and takeout well, and their food stands up presentation-wise inside the restaurant while also transporting home easily. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and everyone. My favorite items: Greek Salad with Chicken Chopped, Gyro Sandwich, and Chicken Souvlaki.

  • Nichole C.

Love this franchise! The food is great and always fresh. You can dine in or carry out and while to some that may seem a tad more fast food than authentic, I guarantee you'll love it. My fave thing to get is the light dinner of chicken souvlaki which comes with rice, salad and pita bread. Their salads are great and also ginormous! Try the Greek salad with chicken or another fave; ceasar salad with gyro meat. Opa!

They're gyros are amazing!!! One of the best I've ever had. They don't skimp on the meat and they're pita bread (you get a choice between white and wheat) is great! I can't finish one whole gyro because they've stuffed in so much amazing lamb. Probably, my favorite places to eat at in West Chase (so far). Some of the other stuff on the menu isn't my favorite- like their combo kabobs. BUT, they make up for it in everything else. Great place. If you like Greek food then this is a must visit.

this is the quintessential greek food lunch place. gyros, salads, skewers, dessert, and more, all great food at a great price.

Hungry Greek is the best chain around- superior to Little Greek and Greek City. They have the best grilled chicken and everything else! Delicious hummus, tzatziki and gyros too!! Always fast and friendly service. Have tried 2 differnt locations- Oldsmar and Wesley Chapel and both are EXCELLENT!

New location at Clearwater Mall. Fast Casual with great flavor. Been twice. My wife and I both like the food. Great take out opportunity if you love Greek food. Rice pudding was so so, but love the pitas. Some seating. Definitely reasonably priced. Emphasis "fast casual".

There are so many little Greek restaurants in strip malls in our area, but this one really stands out. The warm grilled pita that they serve the gyros on is delicious; when you order a salad, they also serve little grilled pita wedges with an awesome homemade tsaziki. It's reasonably priced, service is friendly, and the food really sets itself apart rom all the other Greek lunch spots you see everywhere in Tampa. I will be back!

Only went once, and the wife and got the Gyro wraps. She got the side greek salad, and I went with the fries. Normally I go to Louis Pappas Cafe in Citrus Park, and this was a ton better. Not only was the meat fresh and hot, but the wrap was put together with fresh ingredients and the flavors just popped. The salad was great too. Really good veggies, no mushy or mealy stuff. The staff was a little brusk, but we were eating there right before close, and that's understandable. I can't wait to try the moussaka!

Best Greek in Tampa. Fast service, great quality, awesome flavor and a reasonable price. Chicken svolaki is the best deal all around! I highly recommend...

What a find! We really enjoyed our dinner this evening. Everything was fresh, well-prepared and very tasty! The Avegolemono (Lemon-Rice Chicken Soup) was very good, as were the Dolmades (Stuffed Grapes Leaves) and an order of Falafel (which was a bit more bland than other places.) The Gyro Platter included a very healthy-sized Greek salad with feta, olives, pepperocini and fresh greens, and the Gyro was packed with quality goodies wrapped in a fresh and warm pita. My wife enjoyed her Chicken Kabobs on Rice, and our slice of chocolate Greek cake was excellent! This is a very good choice for quick, freadh and tasty Greek chow, and is certainly worth a try!

I had the best Gyro here that I'd had since I lived in Europe. It was so full of meat, I could hardly get my mouth over it. The staff was delightful, it was very clean and I would definitely suggest this place to others. I want to go back and try the full meal next time, if it's anything like what I had, it'll be real good!!

First time to the restaurant and I was impressed. I like to use an acronym I rate restaurants called F.A.C.S. Food quality and taste, which The Hungry Greek delivers. The Greek side salad was very tasty. Aside from the usual suspects such as lettuce, tomato and peperoncino; potato salad, a slice of purple Beet and sweet Greek dressing. The Gyro was amply stuffed with the traditional Lamb and Beef, but chicken. The tzatziki was average, but good. Atmosphere was good with prompt greeting upon entry. The restaurant is small, but does offer outdoor seating; mostly in the shade. Cleanliness was on par. This restaurant has a visible prep and cooking area. Both which are clean and orderly. Tables were clean. Floors kept clean and free of obstruction. Service... Very good service. As mentioned above, I was greeted prompt and friendly. I forgot to get a fork and knife, but the employee whom delivered my food was kind enough to bring me both. Keep in mind that is a self service environment, including beverages. While in route to deliver their tasty food to another customer, a side order of tzatziki sauce has fallen from the tray. The employee apologized, returned with napkins and apologized again. Add I looked to my left, at the end of the table I saw napkins. Great customer service. If you are in the area and in the mood for Greek style food stop in and enjoy.

Wish I knew about this place sooner. Ordered take out, it was really fast. I got the spinach pie which was creamy and well seasoned. My bf got the gyro dinner which also very good, the lamb had a lot of flavor. Salad was fresh and good. It was about 30$ for both of us with dessert. Looking forward to trying other food on their menu.

Good place for a quick meal to go. Tried the gyros platter with Greek salad and the spinach pie. Both were great and flavorful, the gyros was better than average. The rice was also flavorful and the side salad had potato salad in it which was also great. A meal is huge and was plenty for me to eat for two meals. I also tried the baklava and it was on par with some of the best I've had.

Yummy Greek food in a very clean store and decent pricing gets a 5 star rating. Personable staff a plus. We came at an off hour so it wasn't crowded. The large Greek salad comes with the usual but you can customize to your liking. At $6.99 it fills you up pretty quickly. Not sure why it is $1.25 more for chopped but whatever. You can add a protein on for additional cost. The warm pita was a nice touch and comes with tzatziki. Also got a side order of falafel. Not the best I've had, that would be from a vendor in NYC. But hey, were not in Kansas anymore. Hubster enjoyed his gyro wrapped in a tortilla. Couldn't finish my salad so game half to him and we both said how filling for $20 for two of us. Not too shabby! They also have some nice looking desserts. Canollis and baklava cheesecake looked excellent. They get them from Hellas bakery. Next time!!

Love this place for lunch! Fresh, yummy veggie salads for me and my husband gets full for $7 (gyro and fries always)!!! The housemade salad dressing is so delicious that I bought a bottle for my kitchen. Their tzatziki sauce is some of freshest tasting Ive had. When you order a salad, you're given some to go with the warm pita slices. Btw, the salads are so big, you can get 2 meals from it. Service is always friendly and prompt and the restaurant has been clean every time we come. I also like the fact that they play Greek music at the right volume level, which is a nice touch. It makes me feel like I'm at an authentic Greek restaurant.

I have been a regular here since day one and my usual has changed from one menu staple to another. My latest favorite is the Horiatiki salad with chicken. This salad is huge and consist of; potatoes salad, banana peppers, beats, bell peppers, cucumbers, feta, olives, red onion, and tomatoes. Look no lettuce mentioned. What are you waiting for, go try yours today.

I've set my standards on Greek salads from hungry greek. Fast, consistent, and reasonable. Not any ambiance but always friendly. Can't go wrong with the Greek standards.

  • Amber H.

This place is a rare find, with great food. Fresh ingredients are used to make these delicious items. The only reason I don't score it a 5 is the size of the place prevents larger parties than four from eating there comfortably. The staff is friendly and the prices are average.

  • Lea L.

Always fresh and delicious. Grilled chicken gyros and pitas are tender and juicy. Tsatziki sauce is best around - and what's a grilled chicken pita without good tsatziki sauce? Greek salads are top drawer. Friendly, quick service. And consistent. Been coming here for 3 years. Always great.

My wife and I are visiting from Michigan and we are very picky eaters so we only ordered one entree (chicken kabob) and we were pleasantly surprised on how good everything was that we ordered another one. The chicken lemon rice soup was great and more then enough for us to share and the side Greek salad was very fresh. Very clean and inviting with great service. if I had to say something negative it would be that they didn't have saganaki

One of my favorite fast Greek restaurants away from Tarpon Springs. Their gyros are always fresh and flavorful. Prices are good for what you get. Recommend the combo gyro. It comes with chicken and gyro meat!

  • Deb C.

I love this place! Chicken is 'real' chicken and grilled to perfection! Ask for the gyro meat to be extra crispy... It's way better this way! The baklava cheesecake is so super good! And every time I eat here, all the staff are super nice, friendly, and attentive... Really they are! I love the oniony potato salad, too!

Went here with my son and his family, who recently relocated there. The food was delicious and the service great! I has the moussaka which was excellent. it came with a large Greek salad, very fresh My an answer his wife each had gyros platters thatcher enjoyed very much. There is a children's menu for picky toddlers. We started with dolmas (grape leaves) enjoyed by my son and me, but my daughter in law not so much. The portions were more than generous, so we didn't order dessert; disappointing because the baklava and the cannoli looked wonderful. Definitely will go back next time I'm in Tampa!

Some of the best Greek food in NW Hillsborough. Always clean with fast and friendly service. The "Double Greek Pleasure" is my motivation for constantly returning. It's a MASSIVE salad piled high with gyro meat (does this stuff have a name?) and served with a pita cut in four. I think they put an entire tomato and green pepper on this thing. And yes, there IS a hidden Greek potato salad treasure at the bottom! Seriously, the salad is a meal for two. Their gyros are right up there with the great Greek spots in Tarpon Springs. It's hard to say if they're better because it's been years since I've been out that way.

Love this place. Food is good and fresh. Nice portions, good service and staff. This is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be like. I'm not a Greek food expert but I really like their salad. Very fresh and well seasoned. Their gyros are also very good as well as their grilled salmon plate.

  • Colin R.

Good food reasonable prices. It does get crowded at times. I used to get take out so I can't comment about the dining in experience. Gyro's are great though I do prefer my tzatziki with a little more garlic. Greek salads are good and are served with potato salad in it. Grilled chicken is flavored nicely.

our favorite Greek restaurant. Fast and friendly service. Mouth watering food made fresh. We're regulars. Try the gyro and fries combo. It's amazing!

  • Jay Y.

This is one of my favorite gyro places, I usually get the gyro with wheat pita and the greek side salad. I like my gyro meat a little burnt and crispy as opposed to say the gyro meat you'd find at Champps or Chilis which is soft and soggy like spam... The side salad is a generous portion of fresh veggies and dressing. Overall, it's a good amount of food as well, so go hungry...

I've been regularly visiting The Hungry Greek for years. The food is fantastic and prices are competitive. But... managers need to keep an eye on employees who aren't focused on customers. On a Sunday evening, the outstanding work of the people who were doing the food preparation was overshadowed by a poorly trained, negligent, underperforming cashier who didn't pay attention to detail, and exhibited a careless attitude toward customers. Otherwise, easily 4-5 stars for The Hungry Greek.

I've been meaning to try this place out ever since my hairdresser was raving about this place during one of my appointments. They were ordering take-out during lunch one day and asked if I wanted anything. I politely declined but made a mental note to try it out. I came late on Sunday and they were still open. On their door it's advertised 11 am - 9 pm every day. They were out of their beef so I ordered two combo gyros with a side of Greek salad and two chicken kebab plates that was served over rice. The plate came with choice of side so I picked Greek salad. The plates also came with slices of warm pita. The orders took about 10 minutes to complete but it was nice to see that their food is cooked-to-order. I watched them grill the marinated chicken on their grills. I am a huge fan of their tzatziki sauce and Greek salad dressing. The dressing is served in a separate container so you can control how much dressing is in your salad. All the salads came with a scoop of potato salad. My order came out to be around $40 which is pricey but reasonable considering the food tasted great and is fresh. The portions were generous too. I couldn't help but notice that they had a lot of baked goods for sale too. Next time, I'm definitely going to try a chocolate baklava!

Dinner Dec 28 This is a favorite for us for lunch an dinner. Dine-in or take out, the food is fresh and so so good! You can eat as healthy as you want here! Love the Greek Salads. Full of fresh vegetables (olives, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, beets) and add to that feta cheese and potato salad. The Greek dressing is my favorite, anywhere! It is light and sweet. Also, add to that a warm pita with cup of taziki sauce for dipping. The chicken on salads, kabobs o in pitas is always grilled fresh, right in front of you! This isn't precooked chicken, it is fresh breast meat grilled just for you. The gyros are stuffed with enough meat to fill 2 pitas! Would suggest you call ahead so order is ready for you whether eating in or doing takeout. Highly recommend this place!

Love this place! As a vegetarian, I love the salads and their falafels are delicious. They offer pita in white or wheat too. The staff is super nice and helpful too.

    (5)
  • Karyn L.

Fresh, fast and fantastic. The best Greek in town. Chicken pita, gyro, or veggie pita are all awesome. I hate it when pita wraps fall apart halfway through the sandwich, but no worries of that here! The grilled chicken salad is huge, big enough to split. And of course, it wouldn't be a traditional Greek salad without the all-important scoop of potato salad. Their chicken lemon soup can be a little salty but it's got just the right amount of lemon. YUM. Pucker up! They do a big take-out business, but there are tables indoors and outside for a quick lunch or dinner stop.

This is my favorite local faster-than-slow affordable Greek spot. The portions are great and the service is friendly and professional, well beyond fast food restaurant expectations. If you are hankering for a Greek snack and don't want to drive to Tarpon Springs, this is your answer!

  • Liz H.

Fresh food, a very clean restaurant and a customer oriented, friendly staff. - What a great combination! We had the spinach pie platter which was a very generous serving- and had I not been so hungry, would have been two portions. The pita was fresh and having the whole wheat option is much appreciated. I enjoyed the salad and the option of choosing the veggies. The Hungry Greek at this location will definitely be my go to for Greek in the Tampa area.

Love Hungry Greek... Gyro pita and side Greek salad is the best. Have been here a dozen times and never had a bad meal. Tuesday is $4.95 Gyro pita day; all day. Opa!!

This place is my favorite place to eat Greek food outside of Tarpon Springs in the Bay area. I can't help myself, but I always call in a to-go order for 1 pound of gyro meat. And I eat it shamelessly. Their food is simply incredible! Great food, smiling faces, & very reasonable prices. Go get your grub on at the Hungry Greek!! (If only we had these guys in Atlanta!! Merrrrr!!)

I just had the best gyro ever!!!!! I really love how quick the prepare your meals. The place is always clean and the staff is extremely friendly. I live near by and I eat at The Hungry Greek at least twice a week. Their prices are very competitive and the portions are very generous. I would recommend this place to anybody that is in the mood for Greek food. There is another restaurant in the area that it's more over priced and the portions are very small. So, If you have cravings for a good Greek meal, this is the place to go.

Love the Hungry Greek! I have always had a great meal. I think they have the best salads and the dolmades are even better.

  • Kathy D.

This place is pretty good. It would be much better if staff knew what they were cooking and how to cook it. Got stuffed grape leaves and, what a mistake. Usually I am not on a tight time, but this day I was,. Restaurant staff polite and friendly, but openly argue among themselves while patrons can hear. My order took forever, like 30 minutes and I was on a schedule. I give props to the cashier, she knew my order was overcooked and wanted to give me a free replacement, but that day I did not have the extra time. I have been there before and all has been fine. Today, not so much, food was way overcooked. Yes, I will) give them another try, I love Greek food. Today was a bad day at a fairly good Greek restaurant. What's a girl. To do? I love Greek food, but will not pay Pappas prices.

I live about 5 minutes from this place so I go fairly often. The food is excellent and moderately priced. The gyros are amazing!

  • Kelleigh M.

Located in the shopping center adjacent to sweetbay, the hungry Greek is a great addition to the neighborhood. The staff is extremely friendly and fast! It seems as though the quick fast cas places are big right now. Good quality and low prices. The hungry Greeks fits that mold. IMHO this is the middle of the road-I still think Greek City Cafe is the best, but the hungry Greek is better than the little Greek (located in publix shopping center).

  • Mandie M.

I love Greek food and I love the Hungry Greek! I have eaten here a few times for lunch with my family and it never seems to disappoint. When you arrive you are greeted by the workers and they are happy to help you navigate through their menu if you need help. I usually opt for a chicken gyro and fries each time I go and I ask for the tzatziki sauce on the side for dipping my fries in. This is a place where you order at the counter and then take a seat and once your food is ready they bring it out to you. The wait hasn't ever been too long and I've been happy with my choices each time. The gyros are HUGE and I can only ever eat half for lunch and then I opt to eat the leftover for dinner. Remember to ask for a box when you order because you'll probably need it.

  • Karen F.

Love, love, love this little place! I eat lunch here every few months. For a while I wouldn't order anything but the Greek salad with chicken because it was so dang good, but now all I ever get is the Horiatiki (Village) Salad with chicken. I love it because it's got no lettuce for you to waste your time on, just all the other delicious parts that make up a salad: cukes, tomatoes, red onions, green peppers, whole black olives, beet slices, feta, potato salad, peperocinis, and freshly grilled chicken. So good! And their Greek dressing is sweet and delicious. Plus, every salad comes with your choice of white or wheat pita, toasted, and served with tzatziki sauce. I read that it was started by a father and son team, and on numerous visits, one or both of them have been the welcoming greeter to customers. Even when they are not there, though, without fail all the employees are warm and friendly. It's a must try!

Mmmmm has the BEST Chicken Avgolemono soup!!! I can eat the entire Super Bowl. French Fries are always served fresh & hot. So wish they were a little closer to me! I'd eat there a few times a week!! Yummy Yum Yum

Wow, I'm hooked! This review started off as an evaluation of three terrific Greek restaurants located within the NW Hillsborough / Westchase area. At great personal expense to my own waistline and bank account, I forced myself to eat at each of the three restaurants and then render an opinion for the benefit of my fellow Yelpsters. The restaurants under consideration were The Hungry Greek, Little Greek and Pappas Market Cafe. I've already written reviews for Pappas and Little Greek, and so this review is for the winner of my taste-test comparison -- The Hungry Greek. The Hungry Greek is located in the Sweetbay supermarket shopping center strip mall at the intersection of Race Track Road and Countryway. If you happen to know where the Samurai Blue sushi bar is located, then you'll find The Hungry Greek just a few doors down. First, let me say that the menus of all three Greek restaurants are similar, but I give the edge to The Hungry Greek as they offer more than the standard gyros, Greek salads, stuffed grape leaves, and pastitsio of their competitors. Hungry Greek also offers a nice mix of wraps, grilled salmon and grouper with a wider variety of Greek favorites. Score one star for The Hungry Greek. Next, let's compare flavor. Again, I give the advantage to The Hungry Greek. The seasoning of the gyro meat, the spinach pie, and the avgolemono (lemon-rice chicken soup) were all spectacular. Some have suggested that the soup is a bit salty, but I found if you crumble up some crackers and stir in a healthy dash of black pepper that you'll be left with the bright taste of the lemon soup, and it was excellent. Score another star for The Hungry Greek with flavor. Now let's talk about freshness. Hungry Greek wins this category by a landslide. The gyro meat for the gyro dinner was sliced freshly right off the rotating spit, as opposed to dried-out meat sitting in a warming tray. The yellow rice with mixed vegetables was fresh - no re-heated frozed veggies in here, and no rice that was cooked the night before. The whole wheat pita bread was toasted on the spot, and tasted fresh instead of stale. Major props, and another star for The Hungry Greek. As far as the prices are concerned, The Hungry Greek wins this category as well. A mini Greek salad for under $6, and $1.25 more if you prefer everything chopped. Most meals are in the $7 - 10 range, and the plates of food are piled high with yummy goodies. Another star, and they're headed for the finish line. Finally there's that intangible factor of a fun place to eat with people that genuinely care as to whether you are enjoying their food. The folks behind the counter at The Hungry Greek were extremely friendly, and willing to answer lots of questions about the food. The manager came by to say Hello, and spent time asking me how I had learned of the restaurant and what I thought of their food. It's hard to argue with good old fashioned customer service, and really nice people. A fifth star to The Hungry Greek for their customer service. Bottom line, this is my opinion and your's might be different. All three restaurants are good, but I give the advantage to The Hungry Greek.
