I went back to SoHo Sushi North a few weeks ago and left unimpressed. The restaurant was almost deserted on a Friday night which was a little surprising, but it might have had something to do with Winter Break. The rolls were overwhelmingly expensive and the flavors were just a little too bland. The happy hour isn't anything to brag about as well. They slightly reduced the prices of some of their rolls and that was about it. I know there has been a huge influx of sushi places in the area in the past few years, but it's still a little disappointing to see the place so empty and to taste the slip in quality. Hopefully this will be corrected in the future.

After waiting and hour for our take out that was promised in 20 minutes, the food was mediocre. Certainly not worth the price. The yakisoba had no flavor and the sushi was poorly constructed. Crab Rangoon was cold and bland.

I have been to SoHo north a number of times for the convenience and the food is good.Unfortunately that changed on a Saturday night when I picked up my order to go.I was told fifteen minutes my food would be ready and when I arrived the restaurant was crowded which is great but with only one sushi chef and one waitress, my to go order seemed like an afterthought.I watched the chef kick out food for the patrons in the restaurant and I don't think he gave a crap about my order which reflected in the quality of my food which I waited an additional twenty minutes to get.The fire roll I ordered had no red tuna in it because it was overcooked and the vegetable spring rolls where mushy and overcooked.Next time I want sushi I'll go five minutes up the road and try them because they're not the only game in town.

Pros: Never have to wait to be seated. Friendly staff. Happy Hour. Competitive prices for sushi. Cons: Could do better with happy hour deals. Wish forks were included in the napkins. I don't use chopsticks.

We live in Lutz and have limited options for good restaurants, which is why we drive a little south to Soho Sushi North. We have been here at least a dozen times and have ordered carry out even more. We have never been disappointed. Always try one of the special rolls written on the board!

Soho tempura was delicious, to keep it simple good sushi not the best in town but good

I've ordered take out from SoHo Sushi North a couple times recently. What's the allure? First, its convenient. I usually wind up here when my wife is getting her hair cut during lunchtime at the salon down the row. The second reason? The price. The lunch special is a pretty beast deal. Two rolls and a miso soup for ten bucks. You'd be hard pressed to find some cheaper sushi prices in the city. But not everything is all razored hair and plucked eyebrows at SoHo Sushi North. I've traveled with my wife numerous times to get her hair done, why have I only been there twice? Because SoHo Sushi North has some not so redeeming qualities too. We'll call those the anti-allure. These anti-allures include the variety and the taste. There just aren't many vegetarian/vegan options at SoHo Sushi North. They have a vegetable roll and a sweet potato one. As far as I can tell, that's it. With Takara now offering a seriously intense vegetarian menu and Sushiko having at least five different vegetarian rolls on their menu, I am much more likely to wind up at one of them. What's so anti-alluring about the taste? Well, frankly, there just isn't much. Don't get me wrong, they are fine enough and I've certainly had worse. But I've also had better...right in the same area of town. Its hard to settle for a second tier sushi when you know that a couple miles away there is something with so much more taste calling your name. In short, I'll probably be back periodically (in times of desperation) and it will probably be fine enough. But I won't love it. In fact, I'll probably spend my time there thinking about all the other fabulous sushi joints right down the road.

The place was pretty empty when we visited it on the weekend!! We ordered a three different kind of sushi so we can try as many variety as possible, from the sashimi to the California rolls.my son ordered the bulgogi shredded beef and he liked it. As for me, I didn't care a bit about their sushi, little flavor with unimpressive presentation, giving the fact that presentation is the art that make sushi so different from any other food, one thing for sure, I am not going back there, and I will be still on the look out for the best sushi in Tampa Bay area!

I returned for lunch on two occasions and the service was quite good. Server was friendly, good came fast. The sushi was fine, I ordered the eel roll and crunchy tuna, both were reasonably good and fair given the price range. Good but not spectacular.

Had dinner here on a Monday evening while I was in town on a business trip. Service was fast and attentive. I had their $19.99 sushi special, which includes 10 pieces of Nigiri and a tuna roll. I asked the chef if he would change out the tuna roll for a spicy tuna roll, and he went one better and recommended the crunchy spicy tuna roll. Very good call; the roll was delicious. The special included salad (just lettuce with dressing) and miso soup. Salad wasn't anything special but the miso was hot and tasty. The rest of the special was good. Fish was fresh and quantities were good. My only comment is that it would have been nice if the chef or waitress had shown me exactly which types of fish were served, as it's pretty much chef's choice. I do know that it included two tuna, a yellow tail, a Krab (I don't think it was authentic but it might have been), an octopus, a salmon, and what I think was mackerel (it was a pretty pungent, oily fish). I enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend it to others. At $20 the sushi special is a pretty good value, quality and quantity was just right, and service was excellent.

Pretty good sushi. Went at noon and there was only one other party there. Have to question a bit why a place is dead on a weekday for lunch. Food came out fast and was tasty. Very big fan of the yam yam roll!

Decent happy hour and lunch specials. I especially like their spicy tuna, as it's not super mayonnaisey. It's a great place to hang out for a bite in a chill place.

Just got takeout sushi and it came with Chinese style soy sauce. Nothing worse than that with sushi. Crab Rangoon is delicious and sushi is good WHEN they get my order right

I was having a serious sushi craving. I think it happens to a lot of people. There a few options around my neck of woods: Sushi Raw, Takara, Ichiban, and SoHo Sushi. But, I had been having a hankering for SoHo Sushi, since it is not one we frequent. I had been there probably three times before my Yelp days, so of course I wanted to give it another go so I could review it! It is located in a plaza right as you get on Bearss from BBD. It is right by the Aveda Salon, Wood Fired Pizza, and some Irish Pub. I would not recommend going there during rush hour. What a mess! I hate traffic. The inside had changed, but I could not quite put my finger on it. I think they added new curtains/decorations, and did something different with the seating. I don't think they used to have booths? One drawback is their limited selection of Sushi. Their menu is not several pages long, like Ichiban, so overwhelming. On the other hand, they offer rolls I had not seen at other places. They also have a Gyoza appetizer, which is something I had not tried before, nor seen at my other Sushi restaurants. I also think they have a good selection of apps. Again, there are not many main dishes for lunch or dinner on the meu. If you go at lunch they do have a pick two options, which gets you a little more bang for your buck. Emilio M. and I chose rolls from their specials paper to save some money. Also, I am not one that is into entrees at sushi restaurants. The main attractions: Soho roll (tuna, salmon, tempura chips, roe), Love roll (smoked salmon, steamed shrimp, avocado), Cajun roll (spicy crawfish, cucumber, scallion, roe), and the A&A, which I swear is what it's called but I can't find it on the menu and forgot what was in it. Blerg. I quite enjoyed my rolls, with the Soho edging out Love for the number one spot. Emilio M. liked the mythical A&A roll. The service was good. Friendly staff and attentive. While Soho has mixed reviews, I would say to give it a shot.

I seldom get on this side of town, so I spent an evening just going to many places, ordering 1 item and then on to the next destination. I found the place almost empty. Service was slower than slow. I tried the California rool. I found it a bit lacking & tasteless. Overall not impressed. Not my type of place for fresh, innovative sushi. What's a girl to do? Go where you know exactly what you are getting, especially when it comes to raw fish.

Holy amazing sushi batman!!!! Dude!!! When you hear how rice is the main ingredient and the sushi is secondary, this place make me get that!!! Fricken amazing sushi!!! Small hole in the wall nothing to write home about but unreal sushi!!!!

Today was my first time here and I was very impressed. The place is small, but the food is fresh and tasty! I had the Gyoza, yakitori, and Love roll. I recommend the spicy mayo. The gyoza was very yummy and tasted freshly made. The filling was very flavorful. The same can be said for everything else I had. I will definitely come again to try the rest of their menu!

A great restaurant! My boyfriend and I recently went here for our anniversary and had a great time. The place is small and intimate feeling. The food was really great and we both aren't that big of sushi eaters. This place may have converted us to huge fans though! The prices were great and affordable. We tried 4 different rolls and loved them all. I would definitely recommend going here for sushi in the USF Area!

Close to my house, good service, decent prices, and decent food. I'll probably be back. I placed a to-go order on a Wednesday night. She said it would be ready in 10 minutes, and I warned them that I wouldn't be there for 20-25 minutes. She said she'd delay it so it wouldn't sit out. I got there in 20 minutes, and they had everything together except the ice cream, which she pulled from the freezer (only took 1-2 minutes) and I left happy. When I got home, I noticed two problems. First, the bag smelled very fishy. Second, there was no soy sauce. Well, ok, I have soy sauce in my fridge, so that problem was solved. And, after some investigation, I discovered that the fishy smell was coming from the miso soup, not the sushi. Despite the smell, the miso soup was pretty good. I've definitely had better, but it was definitely not the worst, either. I ordered a rainbow roll and chirashi, my standard order when trying a new place. I also ordered some ice cream for later. The ice cream was the only thing that wasn't well-priced: surprisingly expensive at $4.50. Without that, my 'normal' order came to around $30. The rainbow roll was pretty good: the fish was fresh and flavorful. The chirashi was also good EXCEPT for the hamachi, which was definitely on it's way out. I didn't eat it. I think there is maybe a problem with the supplier in the area, since this is the second sushi place this week that's had problems with hamachi. I think I will avoid any further hamachi sushi until spring. That said, assuming you avoid the hamachi, all the rest of the fish was quite good and fresh (not great, but good), and the price was good, too. Service - 4.5 stars (would have been 5 if it weren't for the missing soy sauce) Price - 4 stars Food - 3 stars To be fair, I lived in San Francisco for 10 years, so I have very high standards. However, there are two other sushi places in Tampa that I give 5 stars for the food (I Ai & Sushi Cafe), so it's not impossible. Still, this is far better than Takara, and closer to my house than the other two, so I'll probably be back.

Fantastic Sushi! Going out on a limb and saying...best fresh salmon nigiri I've had to date!..There I said it!!! No sushi roll goes unnoticed at this place when i'm there. I have yet to find one I don't like. Its excellent, and service is friendly. Only downside to this location is the seating. The location is rather small so it can make for a tight squeeze.

I came here a few months ago with my boyfriend and friends for lunch. The lunch menu is limited but it's affordable and filling. The sushi was very good as usual. I opted for the sashimi lunch while my boyfriend had the chicken teriyaki because he likes the flavor. And my friends shared a bunch special and basic rolls like the volcano and red dragon rolls. Yum! They were so good. Of course everything was fresh. Although, I liked our experience I don't think it would be my usual hang out. Even when it's close to USF, I feel there are other sushi places with more options. I like to try new items occasionally and unfortunately their menus is pretty limited. Also, their hours changed from closing at 10pm to 9:30pm. Bummer, because I tend to crave sushi pretty late sometimes.

This place is tucked away at the end of Bearss Ave off Bruce B Downs. We had Asparamaki as an appetizer, which was OK. I could take it or leave it. But as a meal we ordered four sushi rolls. Their rolls are simple yet very delectable! Super fresh and great service, this is now one of my favorite sushi spots! You must try it out!

I think its more of a 3.5 stars, but if the price was cheaper I would prob give them a 4.5... Sushi is good, but its also expensive... I think that they definitely need to lower the price for sushi. I think that for the price their sushi is not all that great.. its good, but i dont think i would prefer paying that much for the sushi...

Soho and I have a love hate relationship. I have been going there on and off for about two years now. While the service is always good and fast, the sushi is another story. I have never been served bad sushi at Soho. However, I have noticed that while the basic rolls are all GREAT for the price, the specialty rolls can be somewhat of a rip. Last time I went, I ordered the basic Soho Roll, which is amazing, and a Fire roll (a specialty roll). For whatever reason the 6$ Soho had about double the fish of the 10$ roll. For whatever reason this has occurred multiple times to me. The place has great cooked food and good standard rolls. Do not depend on any specialty rolls to do the fix though. They are expensive and unimpressive. As a side note, I really miss the Bento box special with the Korean bulgogi meat.

As a student at the University of South Florida, SoHo Sushi North is my absolute favorite local go-to sushi bar. They're authentic, have awesome lunch specials, and even give USF student discounts! The small restaurant is right across the street from my apartment, so you could say I'm a regular. I normally go with friends during the week for their $10 lunch special: two sushi rolls and a soup or salad. I've never been too impressed with their miso soup, but I've not yet ordered a sushi roll there that I haven't liked. Their Spicy Tuna roll with EXTRA wasabi is my favorite- I like it hot! Service is generally friendly and I've never had to wait long for to-go orders. If you haven't tried the place, I would highly recommend it!

The food is as stale as the decor. Dirty surroundings, service is lack luster. If your looking for sushi there are much better places near by.

  • Jennifer P.

The rolls here are pretty subpar. I come here only because they have good priced lunch specials, and the sushi rolls here are better than the pre-made rolls at Publix. With the lunch special you get miso soup and two rolls for $10. Pretty good price. Still I would be lying if I said the food here was good. It's just meh and I continue to come back because my USF friends appreciate the price and note it as "good enough" for a quick meal out.

I've returned numerous times to this place over the past few months. Still excellent!! Crab rangoons are soo good that I physically crave them. Also, I guess you can say I'm a regular. The waitress remembers me and my order every time I come in. I think this is awesome! I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. With the happy hour, check-in deals, and USF deals, they really try to appeal to everyone and are doing a great job. However, because I'm not a USF student, I think they should extend the deal to all college students. I know that there are a lot of other college/grad students from other schools that are in the area for residencies at the VA and other hospitals that would definitely take advantage of the deals. Keep up the good work!

Pretty good sushi in an out of the way place. The aumbiance was nice. I will say not having plum wine at a sushi place is no-no. I'd drop in again if I were in the neighborhood & didn't feel like making the trek to Ybor for Smurai Blue.

Sushi was great and hit the spot. While nothing exciting it is a good place to go to when you want your fix. I will visit it again. Also, has a nice community feel to it too.

Sushi was just okay. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy and the rice on the rolls was very dry. We got the calamari appetizer and it was cold and chewy. Ugh!

I absolutely LOVE this place! I went there on a whim for my first sushi experience and have been going back for over a year now. The volcano roll is to die for! The steamed crab on top is as good as it gets. I love the people there too, friendly and always willing to chit chat with you at the bar. The happy hour is awesome and if I'm not there during happy hour they also have a USF discount. I've been to numerous sushi places around tampa and always end up disappointed with all but soho.

Good geso (crunchy calamari) but all else we tried was ok at most. The avocado tasted funny. I told the server about the avocado and nothing was done about it. Sake House is much better in comparison.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here. Everything was very fresh from my edamame to the sushi. The ambience of SoHo Sushi is also very sheik and trendy. I will be back in the future.

I tend to eat here about once a week. I love good sushi and SoHo is no exception. It's always fresh and the service is great. Never crowded and they have a happy hour where select rolls are discounted. And the wine, beer and sake is two for one. This is very close to home for me so it has become my go to sushi spot.

I went in hungry one night (this was before spring break) with a group of friends. The restaurant was pretty busy... The restaurant itself had nice/modern interior. The food itself was good. I ordered the Red Dragon roll ($12), Yam Yam roll ($5), chicken katsu ($7), and fried ice cream ($5). I was pretty full after the entire meal. The food was great, and I loved LOVED the Yam Yam roll (basically, sweet potato + avocado in eel sauce). The fried ice cream was very good too... I think a deal since there were 4 pieces. They're usually smaller when I order elsewhere. I think the prices are about average to above average. I'd definitely go again, but I'm sure there are other places that are cheaper as well.

If I only had pictures of the 'sushi cake' I had made for my friend's birthday! SoHo has the best sushi in at least a 20 mile radius. It's always delicious and beautiful (and I am super picky about my sushi). Linh is the best chef!

when Soho sushi on S. Howard closed...and took time to re-open on Kennedy I was crushed. It has always been my favorite sushi in Tampa. I have eaten at every other sushi joint that people swear up and down is the best, and I've never liked any place more than Soho. So no that they have opened a place up here in N. Tampa, I almost wet myself. I was a little concerned that it would be different than the S. Tampa location and that the quality of the sushi may be sub par. Not at all! Seaweed salad, tuna nigiri, volcano roll, catepillar roll and red devil all rocked the house. Everything as incredible fresh and wonderful!

We discovered on yelp SoHo Sushi. It's a cute little place in a nice mall off Bears. We were pleasantly surprised by the sushi and in fact, have been generally underwhelmed by the sushi near Temple Terrace. This is the best we have discovered so far in the area We enjoyed the tuna tartare, the corona role and especially the caterpillar role. Take advantage of the happy hour. They offer a good selection of well priced rolls .

  • Nat W.

This place is awesome!! They have consistent quality in their food. I love their geso appetizer. and crab rangoon!! Do not forget to order these :) For sushi, I always order tuna tartar...half size is enough if you are by yourself or sharing with just one more person. My husband loves the green menace roll and my favorite is soho roll. This place is clean. And it is more relaxing and less crowded than the one on Kennedy blvd. in South Tampa. You won't have a trouble finding a parking spot either. If you are a USF student you will get 10% discount and they also have happy hour 5-7. Gotta love the Happy Hour!
