I placed an online order at 7:17pm on a Monday. Two of the three items ordered were part of the "Limited Time" shrimp features. The pickup time, reported from the online system, was 7:53. As part of the online order, I needed to add my phone number. I got to the restaurant at 7:55. This is where the experience went downhill. The manager came over to me with the printed receipt and told me they don't carry shrimp items -- would I like the items with chicken? She told me that her cook had just told her I had ordered shrimp items. Here, it's 40+ minutes after the order and not only was the food not ready for pickup but they hadn't started. When I asked why they didn't call me about the substitution, the manager said she didn't have the phone number. We looked at their printed receipt together (that came off the restaurant's printer). My phone number was there. The manager stated that she couldn't read the phone number since the printer wasn't aligned. When I asked her to recite from the receipt, she read it correctly. I told the manager that I wanted my money back (I had to pay by credit card when placing the order). She said that she couldn't give it to me since it was a different system -- that she needed to call her general manager to figure out what to do. After her phone call to the GM, the store manager told me that they would have to contact corporate the NEXT DAY and start the refund process. I insisted on speaking with the general manager. Using the manager's personal phone, she called the GM and handed me the phone. I explained my situation and told the GM that I wanted the money back while I was still in the store. The manager finally pulled the cash out of the register and handed it to me. I left and went to a Chipotle. I will not be going back to Pollo Tropical. Had they called me when the order printed in their store (7:17pm) or shortly afterward, I could have chosen substitute foods and simply picked it up when I got there (at 7:55pm).

Wow! First time here and love it! Clean, great service, food is really good, portions are just right, and value. I wouldn't call this place fast food. Its as close as you can get to a good sit down without hurting your wallet

I love Pollo. For a chain restaurant the food is VERY good. Authentic Spanish fare without killing your wallet.

Crowded with lunch people. I ordered online and the counter person had no idea. Did not ask if it was for here or to go. Food prep people did not read our order to see if we had any special request. Food was great tasting but I would have liked my black beans on the side. I did receive a $5 off coupon for being my first time ordering online. Will return but never order online again.

The food was very good. Similar to Chipotle. I had the pulled pork bowl which was great. My boyfriend had the chicken bowl which he also said was good. The food was fresh and made me feel like I was eating "healthy". They have a lot of different sauces. I recommend the garlic ranch and hot salsa. Cons: The two workers that I had contact with were very rude. Also a small soda selection.

Pollo Tropical has a great vibe, great food and great prices...

Fantastic food, excellent service and really good value for the money!

Grilled Chicken is great... The grilled 1/2 chicken w/ one side is a great deal at Pollo Tropical. It also tastes great. I haven't found a side I Love yet. I'm a big fan of Black bean and rice, but Pollo's just isn't that tasty; IMHO. But you still can't beat the value and taste for fast food. I've eaten at this location 4 or 5 times and they do a good job. Recommended...

Excellent food but don't expect them to be fast or get your order right if you ask for something personalized like dressing on the side

Pollo Tropical is not your typical "fast food". Slow simmered black beans served over fluffy rice. Grilled, marinated chicken that is juicy and tender. I love the Tropichop meals - meat over your choice of rice, beans, or salad - and they often offer bundled deals for a Tropichop and a drink for $5. They also have a salsa and sauce bar so you can spice up your meal as you see fit. The food is consistently good, fast, and at a good price. One down side - I have never had a to go order come out correctly at this location. When I ask for sauce on the side, I usually have to go in and prep it myself so I started just ordering inside. Nice staff but they always seem a little lost and disorganized.

I get on Pollo Tropical kicks and forget how amazingly delicious it is. See, I'm a simple person and who doesn't like surprises, even if you've already had it before. For less than $6, I get a full meal (water is my beverage of choice, because pop kills). Their chicken is cooked on the flame grill which you can see when you order. - 1/4 chicken with black beans and yellow rice and a Hawaiian roll = full meal - love their marinated tomatoes side - I've seen, but haven't tasted the mac n' cheese but it looks delish (my co-workers always order it and finish it) They have an excellent sauce bar. Let's just say they usually have to refill the cilantro garlic sauce after I leave. I put it on everything. ***Fun fact: my husband made their tables!***

I've past this place numerous times and recently was with a friend who suggested it. I'm kinda new to the Cuban / Latin food scene so upon entering I wasn't expecting much more than a fast food Latin theme. There is a wide selection of items to satisfy any craving or palette. Prices were reasonable with most options in the $5-8 range. I went with a safe option considering most of my Latin food experience is limited to a Cuban sandwich. I chose the Cajun Grill which was a grilled chicken on a bun with a side of Caribbean soufflé and drink. The sandwich was good but on the small size it was kinda more a 3 bite sandwich at least for me. The side was essentially a enhanced corn bread soufflé which was moist and flavorful. The Fix In's bar offered various types of sauces and toppings to add to your meal. Overall I did enjoy the place and will keep it on my repeat list.

I carefully planned a blissful weekend of overeating fun for my boyfriend and I through Groupon. The very first restaurant we made it to with a deal that expired that night was closed. Unclear if that was closed for business, or for the night, since it was well within business hours for the place. We were starving! We tried Versailles down the street. They had extremely loud Bingo going on, so after sitting there 15 minutes we left even hungrier, the promise of delicious food taunting us each step of the way. I finally beg him to stop at Pollo Tropical, and had a far less expensive and delicious meal than anything we had planned that night. I got a pork Tropi-chop with yellow rice, black beans, veggies, and doused it in cilantro ranch sauce. The ice cold, Zero-Calorie Peach Brisk Green Tea was the perfect accompaniment before discovering they offer beer and sangria as well! The large size I ordered was a bit much, even with my hunger, but oh so fairly priced that I was able to share it with a friend, who mistakenly ordered the tastiest, tiniest sandwich on Earth. (Caribbean Chicken Spinach Wrap) I can't weight for my hispanic taste buds to experience this entire menu that almost seems tailor made for me. I'm ready to throw down here, or as my people would say it "Tirar aballo"!

First time here. Food was very good (wife & I both got the BBQ Chicken Tropichop) and a side order of plantains. I've eaten quite a bit of Cuban food and found Pollo Tropical's food a little better. More flavorful & both my wife & I enjoyed the side sauces (I got the mild salsa & she got the garlic - which I tried & found very tasty). The service was very fast ( we got there @ 1:30 on a Friday) & the restaurant very clean. The waitresses were friendly & had some recommendations on what other diners find are favorites. I will definitely go back.

I used to come here all the time now it's going down hill my rice looked like mash potatoes the beans were so watery and the chicken was dried out not only did the employee give my order to the wrong customer in front of me but he also gave me wrong food that he told me to keep and messed up my order as well it was just a bad experience

Great food (not as good as my wife's), but a little dirty. I would have given a better rating if the empty table next to me was wiped off at some point and if the entire floor wasn't so greasy/slippery. I was just minutes ahead of the lunch crowd too. There was also about 10 pieces of uncooked rice in my plate that were a little aggravating to bite into. That being said, I will definitely bring the family to try the food at the Brandon location near our home, and see if they love the food as much as I did.

Pollo tropical is a fast food chain of the most delicious Hispanic Caribbean food you'll ever have. A huge menu featuring items such as rotisserie chicken, Cuban sandwich wraps, and guava cheesecake, not to mention the delicious tropichiller smoothies, Pollo has something for everyone. This location is open late so if you're ever around for a movie at the amc, please stop by here, you won't regret it!

Pollo Tropical is the Cuban version of KFC. Only the chicken is grilled, not fried. And you can get rice and beans. And other latin goodies too. I love Pollo Tropical as it is one of my "safe places" when I'm on my Weight Watchers lifestyle. As with any other restaurant, there are good decisions to be made, and there are bad decisions to be made. When I am behaving, Pollo Tropical provides some very yummy options. Today I had the good old fashioned Caribbean Chicken Soup, better know to us Latinos as "sancocho". Its a hefty soup with a lot of "verduras" (vegetables) and a little bit of chicken. The broth is very flavorful, and the healthy serving of vegetables is very filling. That recipe was obviously created by someone with Latino blood. A small soup is 3 WW points, and a large (which of course is the one I recommend) is 7 points. Since the soup is a little bit on the skimpy side when it comes to chicken, I added two boneless breasts of their great grilled chicken. They don't have any skin and they are breast, so flavor-wise they lag their thigh and leg cousins, but at only 3 points per breast, it's a no-brainer. The dark meat and the skin is where the flavor and the calories are at. :( So for 13 WW points I have a very hearty soup with lots of vegetables, chicken, and flavor. I sometimes mix it up with small servings of rice and beans instead of the chicken when I have more points to spare. Beware the Tropichop meals. They are delicious but at over 30 points each, they contain almost a whole day's worth of calories in a single serving. Yummmmmm....

Im giving this review 1 star because the assistant manager was extremely courteous however my experiences with the Pollo Tropical in Tamp on Waters Ave has been beyond horrible. I visit Pollo Tropical at least 1-2 times per week. I use the drive thru most times and the last 5 visits have been terrible. After a long day my family and I are tired and hungry and we buy the Family meal from this location, each time either the chicken is not only under cooked but almost raw to the point we have had to cook the chicken when we got home, other times the chicken is charred and/or burnt, the beans are extremely watering and the rice is hard. We have order plantains that are usually under cooked and the tostones over cooked and hard. I've talked to the assistant manager and manager several times and both are extremely pleasant and understanding however the food quality is beyond explanation. Today I specifically spoke to the manager and explained that I did not want anything for free or any concessions however I felt it important for the health of the business that I express my dissatisfaction. As usual very nice and understanding. Guess what happened when I got home? 2 pieces of chicken missing. I am so disappointed with his location and will never return.

As a frequent visitor, good food at a great price. Tropichop bowls are great for lunch. Much better than fast food. The Waters location has similar food to the Hillsborough Ave store, but the Waters store just seems cleaner. Service at both is hit or miss, but within expectations for counter service. Called in order was a waste of time, it was wrong and not ready the one time I called in. Salsas are nice and fresh tasting, these locations push out a ton of food, and it's always really good. See ya at lunch time! Tropichop and a drink for $5? Love it...

We regularly receive coupons in the mail for Pollo Tropical, but had never stopped in. Last Friday, I was planning a trip to Target (which is right across the street) and decided that it was time to try it out. There was a coupon in our mail insert for two TropiChop meals and a choice of plantains or fried yuca for $10.99. Since I had never been, I wasn't exactly sure what a TropiChop entailed. Apparently it is a bowl where you choose a protein, base, and toppings. You can then finish off your creation with an array of sauces from a small bar behind the drink station. I went with chicken, brown rice, black beans, and corn. My boyfriend opted for mojo roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, sauteed peppers & onions, red beans, and a few cups of sauces to test out. We chose the yuca for our side, which was bland but not bad when you dipped it in a sauce. I thought my TropiChop was great though! The chicken had great flavor and everything mixed together very well. On Pollo Tropical's website, you can even find custom nutrition information for any item you choose! I love this feature since I'm trying to make healthier choices while eating out. There are quite a few healthier options on the menu and I'd love to come back and try a few more. I also didn't even realize that they served alcohol until we were walking out the door, but a glass of sangria would have went great with my chicken bowl! One last thing that really surprised me was how great the staff was. This isn't a sit down restaurant and they don't accept tips, but an employee made sure to check on us, make recommendations, and brought our food to our table. This proved to me that Pollo Tropical was worth trying for not only for the quick and delicious food, but also for the service!

My first visit and the line at the drive thru, had a minimum of 10 cars. First impression, it must be good. It did not disapoint. I went inside rather than wait in that rediculous line. I selected the chicken breast & blackbeans. The chicken was well cooked. It was moist and flavorful, with hints of citrus. The black beans, we're average for Tampa, nothing noteworthy, but substantial. Overall a dinner, not full of empty calories for a decent price. What's a girl to do? Ya gotta eat, so try something healthy, even if it is fast food.

Disgusting... Never again. Just nasty. Just another fast food chain. Im still in search of a great latin restaurant with great tasting quality food.

Every time I stop in to this Pollo Tropical location, I know there is going to be drama. On this most recent visit, the young man working the cash register even asked for help from the manager and still failed to ring up my order accurately. As a result, I paid more than the advertised price for what I wanted and had to get yet another employee (a very hard-working and friendly female) to assist me. The manager was right there working his tail off behind the counter, but he'd have a much easier time if he would hire capable people to work the cash register. Honestly, I have no issues with the quality or price of the food offered here and I really love that they have plantains as a side item. It would just be nice to be actually order those plantains without it always being such a pain in the ass at the cash register.

Always good, if don't get there before lunch crowd can take awhile to get food. Good prices. I will continue to eat here.

UPDATE. Well, it's been just over 2 years since I wrote my review. I was going over some items tonight and I felt I needed to give a final update on this one. I never did hear back from anyone about the problems I addressed in my correspondence, as mentioned in my review. Either at the local level or corporate. That says a lot to me about how a business is run. If you are sincere about customer service and satisfaction, you will address any and all concerns, no matter how trivial they may or may not sound. At this point, in my daily travels, I occasionally pass by one of these stores. The key word is PASS BY! I will NOT patronize any Pollo Tropical at any time in the future. Do all the advertising you want, build fancy stores, If you can't commit to customer service, you will always be lagging behind the field, in my honest opinion.

I've eaten here several times and have had nothing but good experiences. What's not to like about Caribbean fast food? Rice, beans, chicken, roasted pork, sancocho and sangria at the ready! I remember when this chain was around back in the 90's, and I was a sad face clown when they all went belly up. So I got really excited when they began cropping up again several years ago. One of my favorites is the Caribbean chicken and spinach wrap, but heed my word, it's really small. The menu picture is very misleading. Other than that, I pretty much stick to (and recommend) the rotisserie chicken. It's got great flavor and the sauces at the bar are awesome for dipping. Very fast. Very CONSISTENT.

Okay if ur looking for some Spanish food. Their black beans are pretty good and the grilled chicken breast is moist . Nothing to rave about. It's a quick and inexpensive meal if u don't feel like cooking.

Pollo Tropical is Caribbean fast-food deliciousness. They started in South Florida as a place to order citrus-marinated grilled chicken with rice & beans, but quickly expanded into a restaurant which also offers grilled chicken wings, mojo roast pork, Caribbean-seasoned ribs and salmon, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, and their famous TropiChops bowls. In addition to their fabulous rice and beans, you'll also find boiled yucca with garlic sauce, assorted veggie options, and their new Caribbean corn soufflé which is a baked sweet corn casserole. Pollo Tropical is a fast food eatery (with a drive-up window), but there are no greasy burgers or overly-salted fries inside. Instead you'll find a healthier selection of grilled and roasted foods, seasoned with a lot of citrus and spicy flavors - but nothing too spicy hot. The restaurant has it's version of a sauce and salsa bar where you'll find cilantro garlic, curry mustard, guava BBQ, pineapple rum, and several different tropical salsas to enhance the flavor of your meal. I had the roast mojo pork platter with yellow rice and black beans for my dinner, and then added a hot salsa onto the pork, together with the cilantro garlic sauce over the rice. Oh yes, and extra grilled onions on top, please! You'll find this Pollo Tropical along Waters Avenue, just east of the Veterans Expressway, and next door to the big RaceTrac gas station. Definitely worth checking this place out!

Hadn't had Pollo Tropical since I lived in Orlando about 10 years ago. It was just as good as I remembered! Had the 1/4 chicken with yellow rice and fried yuca. Chicken was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. Will be coming back frequently now that I work in Tampa. A good portion of food for a great price!
