Ok since my last review which was January 21 2014.. i haven't been back to grimaldi's based on not being able to come to this location. I have since been back in April 2015 and just this past weekend. This past weekend's service was great. Our server was attentative despite the weekend lunch hour being hectic. The manager even came out and informed us that half our pizza was burnt but that another pizza would be provided free of charge. I thought that was great. He took the initiative to tell us, otherwise I probably would have hesitated to complain or not even know it was burnt. No one likes burnt thin crust.

This is probably the best pizza I've had in Tampa. We decided to stop by on a whim after dropping by the mall for a quick return, and I'm SO glad we did. We had a large pizza with the classic sauce, ricotta, Italian sausage, jalapenos, and onions. We did order bacon as well which was accidentally left off, but the pizza was so loaded with the other toppings it honestly didn't matter. Both our waitress and the manager still stopped by more than once to ask if we needed anything and apologize. It was a stark contrast to the service we got at another restaurant the night before, and it was much appreciated. What can I say about the pizza that hasn't been said? The crust is the perfect balance or crispy and light, with a slightly sweet flavor. They go light on the sauce which I love, and they are extremely generous with the toppings. I mean, our pizza was just completely covered in toppings. I was barely able to take on two slices. Our waitress Mitzi was super nice and attentive. So, why four stars instead of five? It's really more of a 4.5. Mostly, I just wish they had more specialty options! The menu is a little limited. They had one specialty option(with chicken sausage and broccoli rabe), but I would just love to see what they would produce if they had some options similar to Mellow Mushroom. Anyway, I might find myself making excuses to pop by the mall around lunch time. Will definitely be back.

I love this place. Their pizza is amazing. We were looking for a place at the last minute to have our end of the year luncheon because another place we had reserved cancelled on us. Grimaldi's stepped right up to the plate. They were awesome. They reserved their entire dining room for us. Had salad for us right away when we arrived and kept the pizza coming until everyone had enough, ask at a reasonable price. The service was great. Will definitely be back!

Pizza + an amazing local comedy troupe (Wit Improv)= an amazingly good time. I didn't even know this Grimaldi ' s existed, the last I remembered, this was a different store. I'm glad that it is now a great pizza place. The waitstaff was very accommodating for our comedy show, I know it isn't what they were used to, but they did amazingly well. The service was great, the food was tasty, and the comedy was GOLD! If you bring WIT Improv back, I know I'll be back!

As soon as you walk in this place gives you an Italian vibe. With the wine bottle chandelier and checkered table cloths. The pizza is so yummy. It is pricey for pizza but well worth it. I never eat the crust to my pizza but with this pizza I don't leave a crumb! The personal pizza is perfect size. The pesto base is a must try here.

I wanted to check out what the hype was because my Yelp friends RAVE about this place and I have the tendency to stay away from anything that is remotely close to a mall. I had the chance this past weekend when I offered to help a friend run errands, who had just recently experienced a major surgery. We showed up around 3 PM, and we were informed that we would not be able to order pizza because they were "stoking" the ovens with coal and the wait time would be approximately an hour. We started to walk out the door because I most certainly did not come to Grimaldi's for a salad! Luckily, one of the servers did a final check and they had not began the process! We sat at the bar and quickly put our order in for a simple small pepperoni pizza. Not a big fan of our bartender, Christina...she wasn't exactly warm and fuzzy. Hey - it's not my fault you "stoke" at 3 PM on a daily basis and we interrupted the process! Luckily, her shift was over before we left the restaurant and was replaced by a really friendly guy, but unfortunately, I forgot to write his name down! They advertise 2 for 1 drink specials on their menu board outside. Turns out, it is just for a specific type of beer...bah...My friend ordered the Merlot Blend made by Noble Vines. The wine was pretty tasty but I opted for water because (shocker!) I was nursing a hangover from the night before. The pizza arrived piping hot and looked and smelled delicious. Once it cooled down a bit, I was able to understand why everyone won't shut up about Grimaldi's. It was fantastic! My friend tried to explain to me about the difference between the Grimaldi's here and in New York...the water added to the ingredients is fresh. Is this true? Is the water imported in from NY supposed to make it better? Seriously, water? Can someone clarify this for me? Or is the "secret recipe"? We ordered the small, which consisted of six slices and we were each able to take some home. Yay for me - more leftovers! The pizza was just as good the day after as the day it was made. I may have to actually force myself to frequent the mall once in a blue moon for this pizza. I am anxious to taste their salads as I have read people raving about them, as well.

All of us who have grown up in NY tend to be overly passionate about our child hood pizzeria experiences. Moi included. When a place claims to be so NY that they import water, well to me they are trying hard and I guess that deserves e for effort, but thems is fighting words and I was up for the challenge. I grew up on Long Island and had my fav pizza places on speed dial. I appreciate that they only serve pizza, calzones and salads...no garlic knots or wings and such to be found. And the ambiance of the place is nice. I loved the lights made from wine bottles, but we came for the pizza and the NY claim- so the 3 stars is for the star attraction. The pizza is thin crust and that is a plus in my book, I don't mind the coal oven char on a pizza but the pizza of my youth was the kind that was much more floppy and way more tasty. Not to say that Grimaldi's was bad, it just wasn't (in my opinion) the elusive NY pizza that I will always crave. I actually prefer Anthony's pizza over this. Their lunch specials are ok if there are only 2 in your party, but it actually is smarter option to just go with the whole pie. We ordered half pepperoni, half cheese with a small caesar salad (easily split with 3) and one soft drink and the bill came to just under $30 before tip. We did have left overs so while it was a bit pricey for pizza, still not too bad. But $4 if you want to add artichokes? That is a bit over the top. The server was good at explaining the menu to us and getting drinks, but lagged a bit when it was time to get check. I would come back but honestly, still on that elusive search for my NY pizza fix. Last time I was in NY, my first stop was the nearest pizza place!

We got to the restaurant late, but still received excellent service. The ordered the white pie, which I thought had too much garlic on it... And another custom pie which was awesome. The prices are a little more than your normal pizza shop, but still reasonable. Oh, and I also love how they provide you with all of the pizza seasonings. I definitely appreciate it :-)

Great dinner here tonight. We had four people. Shared a Mediterranean salad and 2 coal-fired pizzas. One cheese and the other meatball, spinach and onions. The ingredients are fresh and the restaurant is clean. We will definitely be back!

I was shocked when I heard that Grimaldi's, the famous NYC institution over by the Brooklyn Bridge, was going to franchise around the country. Places like this generally cannot franchise because even if they get the equipment right, the contents and the person making the pizzas are generally not up to the standards they have in New York City. I was shocked to see that I was wrong in this case! The Grimaldi's in Citrus Park is every bit as good as the one in Brooklyn. They have somehow managed to retain the quality on a franchise level which is really, really impressive. The oven is the right amount of HOT so that the Crust ever so slightly burns and crisps up to perfection...the cheese is very good and the San Marzano sauce is of course to die for. The only real complaint here is the cost which is very high for even top notch Pizza. But other than that, this place is legitimate NY pizza which is pretty darn hard to find down here in Florida.

It was just OK all around. We've heard good things so swung by for lunch. *Waited at door to be seated 3-5 minutes *Waited at table for someone to take our drink order 8 minutes *A girl finally came over, said she was not our waitress but wanted to get us drinks (luckily we dumped our food order on her then and there too) *Random guy comes out with our drinks and walks away *Another random guy comes over with our caprese salad and walks away. *Another random girl comes over with our pizza So, from seating to meal we had 5 people serve us..it felt unorganized and strange...I like to develop a rapport with our server and know who I am tipping and that the percentage I leave reflects their service. The food was..fine. It was forgettable, but at least not terribly over priced. Next time I'm craving pizza in that area, I'll be at Mellow Mushroom!

I've come here four or five times when I'm passing through and I've only managed to get one pizza that was actually incredible. Every other pizza was either burned or otherwise disgusting. The ambiance is very pleasant. Though I don't necessarily like the dusty wine bottle light fixtures hanging above my head while I'm trying to relax and enjoy a pizza, it's out of sight and therefore out of mind after I'm seated. The tables and chairs comfortable enough, and the waitresses have always been very attentive (unless you're not enjoying your meal, in which case they and the managers will skilfully avoid your table only to return with the bill). Unfortunately, my main issue with this establishment is the extreme inconsistency of the food. The Mediterranean salad is excellent, but only after I ask for dressing on the side because the salad is often served with hardly any. Pizzas are often served burned and blackened on the underside, or with the centre of the pizza more doughy than the outside. Also, do NOT bother with anything besides a cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, or margherita pizza. I violated this rule once when I ordered a sundried tomato pizza. Not only was the pizza burned on the bottom, but the tomatoes were disgustingly sweet and chewy. They literally covered the pizza, as they were placed below and on top of the cheese. It was quite literally the worst pizza I have ever eaten, with a whole chewy sundried tomato or two in each bite. To add insult to injurt, I asked for 1/4 of the pizza to be sundried tomato to try the toping... But from the looks of it I got 1/4 of a pound of sundried tomatoes distributed over the entirety of the pizza. Judging from the price of the topping, I certainly paid for a 1/4 pound of sundried tomatoes. Coming here and expecting good food is a costly gamble I'm tired of taking. I felt cheated walking out after actually giving money to pay for such a terrible meal. If you want good, consistent food, you're far better off at the Red Robin that's just next to Grimaldi's. It's hard for me to justify only one star, but even two stars feels undeserved.

Dear Grimaldi's Pizza, Thank you for being so kind to send me a coupon for a free large pizza for my birthday with up to $18 value. That was such a nice surprise. I have never tried you before, but all I have heard are great things. I must say, our server Allison was wonderful, and super helpful. She exceeded our expectations of a waitress. Our hostess too, not sure of her name was very bright and nice too. We sat outside in the huge outside patio. We loved it. I can see how it can be a popular spot at night with the fun little white lights on the top. The bar there as well is a nice set up. We sat by the bar to feel the ceiling fans, and it was nice and comfy. Our pizza with sausage and green pepper with extra sauce on the side, that's the star of the show right? Well, just to give you background about us. We are Chicagoans forever and ever. We are the ones that were wimps and couldn't take the cold weather anymore so we flocked down here, kind of like you New Yorkers, ya know, lol. Our pizza is quite different, and you know that, and we know that too, so we keep an open mind. Because our original home will always be in our heart, we know our pizza will always be in our heart. On that note, your pizza was good. We did like it. We liked that we could taste a flavor of the dough. We also liked that it was not just bread upon bread. We appreciated getting the breakdown that if there was more sauce on the pizza, it would be soggy, and we appreciated it, and asked for sauce on the side. We love sauce, and we can see how it was towards the middle of the pizza but not towards the crust to make sure the crust was crunchy. All was well with that. The only thing I did not like is the fact that the ingredients were all pay per each ingredient. There were not options of ingredients together. You just picked an ingredient and added that to the price of the pizza. That seemed to make it more pricer for a regular customer. The other thing too is that the salad had a small and a large, but the smallest salad was like $8. That's a lot especially when in a group of two, my hubby doesn't eat salad and I am the only one. That is the only thing that I did not like. Other than that, pretty good stuff for New York Pizza I will definitely be back, and I look forward to getting the calzone. My husband had tried it another time without me, and he said it was really good. I look forward to visiting again, and getting great service, and tasty food, and then making myself walk it off at Citrus Park Mall.

We have been on a quest to find delicious pizza in the Tampa Bay area and Grimaldi's Pizza takes the "slice" and did not disappoint. Shout out to Steve E., for his recommendation. There is outdoor seating available -- I thought about my Yelp friend Rachel M. and her beautiful dog Mocha Coconut -- once it cools down it would be a perfect place for Mocha :-) Upon entering the establishment we were greeted with wonderful photos of NYC lining the walls and the aroma of pizza filled the air. We were seated promptly by a friendly server and she took our drink orders. As we looked over the menu -- peripherally I could see my son eyeballing the coal brick-oven. (Consider my son a pizza connoisseur -- he is very picky and super judgmental about his pizza and says its the best he has had out of the NYC area). We ordered the small spinach salad to share ($8) -- good size for a small -- salad consisted of spinach, red onions, tiny tomatoes, bacon bits, gorgonzola cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. That salad won my daughter over -- she loved it (concur with her it was super good & fresh). Now the reason we drove down from the Wesley Chapel area-- a slice of heaven. We ordered the large cheese pizza ($16) and when it came to our table we all died a little! All the ingredients are fresh and you can taste it -- handmade mozzarella, sauce and their "secret recipe" dough. The crust was thin and not soggy at all -- it was a perfect ratio of sauce to cheese. This pie melted in our mouths. The waiter told us the secret to a great pizza is the water. Never heard that before but asked for further clarification about the "NYC water" --- he said that Grimaldi's actually hires a chemist to analyze and recreate the same mineral content of NYC water to keep it as authentic as possible. Hmmm -- maybe that is why it is so good? Last but not least -- my daughter wanted to try Grimaldi's Famous Cannoli ($4.50) for dessert -- she said it was delish. I could not eat another morsel otherwise I would have taken a bite -- we were so full we had to bring some home to eat. Will we be back -- without a doubt - we found the next best thing to a NYC pie in Tampa.

Ok I'm updating my review as the regional manager did get a hold of me with a quickness to speak about our last visit. And invited us back for a meal on them. We went there on a Saturday for a late lunch and the place was not busy at all. So we were seated immediately and our waiter was awesome. He explained the menu very thoroughly and we ordered a pizza and a Mediterranean Salad. The salad came out quick and was delicious. Lots of Feta and was not overly dressed. We got our pizza about 10 minutes after our salad and it was ok. Meaning we had ordered extra cheese and it definitely didn't have extra cheese. Minor detail but hey that's how we like it. So we finish our pizza and got some Baikeys cheesecake to go and wow, That was delicious. So overall it was good experience unlike our last visit and we'll definitely come back again.

Holy coal fired brick-oven New York-style thin crust pizza, Batman! Grimaldi's is a well-known pizzeria which started making pies over 100 years ago at their location under the Brooklyn Bridge along Front Street in Brooklyn, NY. Since that time they have expanded their operations to 8 states, and you can now enjoy the same authentic flavor at three Grimaldi's Pizzerias in the Tampa Bay area. This Grimaldi's is located at the Citrus Park Mall in NW Hillsborough County. As you face the front entrance to the mall, you'll see BJ's Brewhouse to the left of the entrance, Red Robin to the right of the entrance, and Grimaldi's to the right of Red Robin. You have the choice of eating inside at one of the red & white checkerboard tablecloth tables, or outside on the patio (complete with gas heaters for the winter months), or seated around the inside / outside bar area. During busy times you'll need to check in at the hostess station where you'll be handed their signature pizza pager while you wait for a table. The menu is very simple in that you only have a few basic choices -- salads and antipastos, pizza, and calzones. The pizza and calzones all start with hand-tossed pizza dough which is then baked in the oven. The entire kitchen is on display to the dining room, so you can watch them making your meal. Pizzas come with three different types of sauce: traditional red sauce, white sauce with garlic, or pesto sauce. You choose the size of pizza (12, 16, or 18 inches), then the sauce, and then add on the toppings. Most toppings are $2, and there is an extensive list of toppings at the bottom of the menu. All of the pizzas are thin crust, and they will all come out of the oven with some char on the bottom. If you don't like this style of pizza then consider trying somewhere else. I had a small house salad which was made with Romaine lettuce, sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes, roasted sweet red peppers, mushrooms, green olives, and their house vinaigrette dressing. While I was busy grazing on the rabbit food, they prepared a personal red sauce pizza with meatball, sausage, and extra cheese. The pizza took about 15 minutes, so plan accordingly if you show up during their peak times. It will take a while for your pizza to be made. They had about a half dozen beers on tap, another dozen or so in the bottle, and a large wine list with whites, reds, sangria, and sparkling wines available by the glass, half carafe and bottle. A bit pricey, but very good and worth a stop if you're shopping at the mall or up in that part of town.

Was very disappointed!!! This was my 2nd visit in one year and the first time I was just as disappointed... The pizza was overdone with blackened crust- very crisp and hard. They forgot the fresh basil and I was charged for it. If it wasn't take out and I hadn't driven all the way home before I noticed, I would have returned it. It was very thin and soggy. Also the two spots for take out in the parking lot were not being used by pick people. The spots were occupied for 15 minutes and no one was ahead of me in the restaurant picking up !! I could have had a better pizza at papa johns for 1/3 the price - not a happy customer :(

What can I say nice about this place... Nice decor? Burnt pizza crust, my calzone delivered to someone else, waiter was nice though. I won't be back, totally disappointing. It is definitely not NY style pizza. *Edit: I was contacted by the owner after this review, he wanted to make it right and for that I am appreciative. I still wont go back and eat, but it shows they care about their customers.

I truly appreciate the consistency of the Tampa locations of Grimaldi's. You are guaranteed a great thin crust pie not matter which location you visit! This particular location always seems to be a quieter than the Westhore Plaza location, which is not a reflection of food or service but perhaps because there are several restaurants to choose from at the Citrus Park Town Center. The servers at this location are friendly and attentive. On cooler evenings, my family and I enjoy sitting outside on the large patio outside.

Every New York style place I've been to has been a small-time, mom-and-pop type venture, but that's not the case with Grimaldi's. They have taken NY pizza to the full-blown chain level, and that's not a bad thing. As a one-time pizzeria owner/partner myself, I can truly appreciate what they've build here. This place was tailor-made to be a large capacity pizza joint, unlike so many other places that are simply retail spots with pizzerias awkwardly crammed into them. The money it must've cost to build this place out to their specifications must be mind-blowing. So needless to say, I'm a fan of the décor. As for the pizza, it's like we jumped in Marty McFly's DeLorean, juiced up the flux capacitor and landed in 1940's New York City; a definite throw back to a more simple, less-processed period on the evolutionary food timeline. Perfectly baked crust, fresh mozzarella, and a tomatoe sauce that screams "I didn't come from a can!" I've got nothing at all against Baker's Pride ovens, but there just ain't no beating a brick oven. What can be beat, however, is the $9 price tag on a "personal" 12" cheese pie. No value there at all. An 18" cheese pie at most NY joints will only set you back $12-14. The antipasto salad is good as well, but a bit expensive at $9 for the small. No value there either. The white sangria is delicious. Not too sweet, and contains NO cinnamon, thank goodness. $6 seemed like a good price for a glass, but not once you see how small the glass is. Definite thumbs down on value there. The service was great though. Adonis was our waiter, and he was nothing short of delightful and informative. We should clone this guy so he could be at every table at every eatery in the area. Very pleasant experience. All-in-all, good experience with good food, but too pricey for NY pizza, IMHO. Tomatoes and flour are relatively cheap, so to pay $9 for a 12" cheese pie is absurd. So, for me, the prices knock them down from a solid 4 to a 3 star. Would I return? Only if I was in the mall already and craving some pizza. I wouldn't make a trip there specifically for their pizza, as I did yesterday.

Hands down the best pizza I have ever had. Been here multiple times and each time is always amazing. I'm originally from New York and this pizza is honestly better than 90% of the places. The crust has such a nice crisp and flavor to it, but the cheese! Ohh the cheese looks so melts and delicious. This is the spot i always bring friends and family to in town when they come and they all say the same thing "wow". And you would be a fool to pass up there cheesecake. The stuff is quality. Met the manager mike many times, always talks to everyone in the house. This is an awesome establishment, try it and you won't be disappointed.

While shopping at the mall, hunger set in. Why not pizza? The pizza was good, not great. Anthony's is a better bet in my book. Service is where they lost credibility with me. Lackluster, and slow! I would have had another beer or two if they were more engaged. Next trip to the mall, it will be Chic Fil A.

Best pizza ever... yeah everyone says that.. it's true. I don't know what they do to make it so good. Coal fired? Nah surely that can add flavor. Light airy crust? Maybe. Fresh real ingredients. .. she's that's it! Real cheese. The parmigiana cheese you sprinkle on at the table is very good too. This us not pizza hut, the pizza is not cheap. But it is worth it. Save your penneys and go get the best pizza around. Remember to thank me!

Very nice place, atmosphere is really comfortable. Service was amazing the food is good. I ordered the seasonal pizza buffalo chicken, the truth is that I was expecting more out of it, but even though it wasn't delicious the pizza was super good. Blue moon on draft at 5 bucks each. Overall nice place to go. A little bit pricy!!!

A couple weeks ago, I did a search for the best pizza in Tampa. I don't know why I hadn't done one in the 2 years I've lived here. When I saw the name Grimaldi's, I thought it was either a typo or a really weird coincidence. I had no idea that the most amazing pizza I used to tear up over in New York City had started to franchise. Sure enough, this is the real deal. The real Grimaldi's. I live near the Brandon mall so this is no short drive, but it's well worth it. There are a handful of brick oven pizzerias in this town, but this is the original. Had my first Floridian Grimaldi's pizza tonight. And it was just as epic as I had hoped it would be. I'll get the complaints out of the way first... there were annoying kids everywhere. Can't fault the restaurant for that. But it did kind of ruin the vibe I was hoping to see recreated from the Hoboken, NJ location. Also I had extra sauce on one half and pepperoni on the other... so why was I charged for 2 toppings? Eh... brought my review to 4.75 stars, so I'll just round up. Ordering extra sauce is a must. They are pretty stingy with their sauce. I don't remember the Grimaldi's in NY being this way. The pepperoni was top quality stuff. The sauce, although scarce on the non-extra side, was excellent. Service was adequate. Another tip... do NOT order this pizza to take home. It's thin crust and thus cools quickly. Eat it in the restaurant. I really hope they expand to the Brandon area. Then again, for my health's sake, maybe it's better they don't.

The pizza is very good but I think it's overpriced compared to other places in the area. A pretty basic pizza is $18 and each add on is $2-4 per ingredient. It's easy to have a $30 pizza which is too much. Other nearby places are equal or better and not nearly as expensive.

After living in Italy for two years, it's hard to come back to enjoy American style pizza! I have always felt that the taste here is very close to the authentic pizza I've had abroad. Stopped in for lunch and enjoyed a calzone with a house salad. They have smaller portion pizzas for lunch as well. The manager gave us a complimentary slice of the butterscotch cheesecake which was fantastic!!

As a kid I remember always going to Mary's pizzeria on 2nd avenue between 106 & 107 Street. For $1.25 you got the best pizza pie( tomato pie) in the world. For me it was better than Patsy's. That was long ago. Now we have Grimaldi. It reminds me of Mary's pizza, but with a hefty price tag. But this is 2013 and were not in East Harlem. So head on out to Grimaldi for a great taste of the past.

If pizza could be romantic, and sexy with a 50's feel then this would be it. The ambiance and service knocks it out of the park. My only hesitation is that it's grotesquely overpriced. The food is simply stated, and tastes no frills, so I feel like I'm paying for Hollywood glitz on a pizza thats mediocre, and served with panache. I really think this place has worked out it's kinks, and is a notable spot if you are ready to drop cash on a MEH pizza. We're in a recession folks, and NY Pizza is opening up down the street, so you are going to have a little problem.This is not destination pizza unless you just want to time travel. I didn't bother with any of the crust. Hungry Howies makes a tasty crust....just sayin.

Great atmosphere, staff was super friendly. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating to our then five year old daughter. I had been feeling a bit home sick (from NY) and when I discovered this gem at our local mall I couldn't believe it. I had yet to find real NY style pizza since moving to TB. I was not disappointed. Us New Yorkers have been searching for a place like Grimaldi's for the past 12 years-all around Florida. So when the waiter came over and explained that the water that is used for the crust is very close to the water that is in Brooklyn NY- we laughed-but he did know that water is really from the Catskill Mtns in upstate NY. No laughing when the pizza came-it was done right! This was the pie we knew from Coney Island,Elmont and of course the Holy City of Brooklyn! Not as delicious as the original location in Brooklyn, but pretty close to it. I was happy to hear the franchise was hitting the Tampa Bay Area, An establishment with a supreme reputation and an even better "secret" sauce. Oven fired pizzas are not heavily present in the North Tampa area, I'm especially pleased to have Grimaldi's only minutes from my neighborhood. The restaurant is fairly large and adequate for accommodating larger parties. The bar is pleasantly inviting and splits up the dining room seating. The Sangria was tasty but not their forte. Pizza was just how I wanted with extra sauce and perfectly layered mozzarella cheese.

Oh my good lord this is some yummy pizza!! I think they have officially stolen 900 Degrees' spot and become my favorite pizza place in Tampa! The crust is charred, the sauce is flavorful and well seasoned, the cheese is legit mozzarella, not that shredded stuff. My favorite combo is pepperoni, sausage, and ricotta. SO GOOD! It's a little slow because they make the pizzas to order, but that's nothing a call ahead can't remedy! I don't recall if they sell pizza by the slice or not, but don't bother. Get a whole pizza. You're going to want it later! I'm not ashamed to say that I bought a pizza from them 2 days in a row, and I'm having to force myself not to get another one today! It is THAT good!

Went here on the basis of good reviews. I think it is a bit over-rated. We had a friendly waiter. The noise level was such that I could almost hear myself think. They make a big deal of the pizza being just like Brooklyn, including use of water from NYC. I grew up in Brooklyn and had my share of pizza there. None of the pizza I ate in Brooklyn was as dry as the pie at Grimaldi's. It appears that they got the water part right, but they seem to have forgotten the olive oil and the plentiful sauce that make a NY slice so drippy with crust that folds easily. (Remember John Travolta getting 2 slices, putting one over the other, folding them and eating both at once in "Saturday Night Fever'?- that's Brooklyn.) None of that at Grimaldi's. That being said, the pie was not bad and having a draft beer with it is a pleasure not usually available in NY. Maybe this is good pizza for Tampa, but not really up to NY standards.

Visited here for the first time while shopping. Was utterly disappointed with the portion size of the pizza i ordered and service. Took almost 30 mins to make a 6 inch pizza. Although the pizza was delicious (which is the reason I gave two stars) I don't think I'll be back. You're better off ordering thin crust at Marco's and will get the same quality and your money's worth. This place is a little pricey.

I was a bit surprised to see how many Grimaldi's Pizzeria's popped up in the Tampa area over the past few months, but it seems they've placed them all in high traffic mall areas, which is smart of them. But this can be a good or bad thing. Good ,in the sense that if you ever need to place that can easily seat a large group of people, the restaurants around the mall can easily accommodate that. Bad, in that the food in these type of places are usually only slightly above average and not something that would high on anyone's list of good eating... Grimaldi's may be an exception to that rule, I enjoyed the experience and their pizza. I would rank them among the Sally O'Neals type pizza in South Tampa. Definitely ranking above most other pizza places in the Tampa area... The restaurant is fairly large with an indoor and fairly large outdoor area for dining. There is a bar that connects the two dining areas, so you can easily walk up to the bar and enjoy a drink without having to necessarily be inside the restaurant. Service was prompt and courteous. Given that its in the mall area, it gets very busy after 7pm on weekends...

Best pizza I've discovered in Tampa so far. We ordered a pizza with garlic, basil, tomato, and artichoke pizza that was devine! I love that they use the real, fresh mozz on all pizzas they make. The ceasar salad was also delish, and they have a family sized option that inexpensive if you're with a group. The station where the hand make the pizzas is open to the whole restaurant to view, was really cool to watch while waiting for our table. The decor is pretty typical for a nicer italian/pizza place, im kind of a sucker for those romantical white Christmas lights strung around the ceiling. The only negative I can think of is the young girl who brought out our pizza got an attitude with the manager who told her to remake it, because they mistakenly put pepperoni on it. But the pizza was remade and out quickly, so no biggie. Cant wait to come back!

The food is really good,but other than pizza and salad there is nothing on the menu, which sometimes sucks when my hubby wants pizza every week. Yelper's BEWARE ! Dirty red sauce stained table cloth, I have a photo which I will have to upload from my computer since yelp doesn't accept photos from my camera roll anymore. We switched tables & I watched them reset the table using the dirty table cloth! What a Joke! Whats even worse is that a manager came over to apologize & he admitted that they DO NOT change every table cloth as the linen service is very expensive. Am I on the right planet, I told him that he cant do this & the table cloth was never replaced since we were only a table away waiting to see. The manager looked me in the eyes and said they did change the table cloth & I looked back & told him your lying. They just sat 2 girls at the table just as we approached the table to inspect it. We explained our intentions to them & they agreed that was wrong to even sit them there since we were already at that table prior. I ask everyone there & I ask all you Yelpers would you stay in a hotel room bed that didn't have clean washed sheets? Grimaldi's is Unacceptable !

I am not exaggerating the 5 star worthiness of this place. It's a chain; big deal. They know how to do pizza right up in here. I was driving to this mall because I was using a groupon to get my car washed. I was just going to go catch a movie, but when they told me it'll take 3 hours... Ouch. Might as well get food. I saw a "now open" sign for grimaldi's and I dragged the boy over. We didn't have any wine, since it was only 12:30, but they have a fairly extensive list for all price ranges. We decided on the antipasti, which had fresh mozzarella, tasty meats, delicious peppers, and olives. Best thing about it was that they gave me my own oil and vinegar, so I could load my bread up! I would say the only drawback is that I wish the bread was warm, but it was hardly noticeable. The boy and I got the 16 inch cheese and meatball with red sauce. It comes out PIPING hot. I had to eat my first slice with a fork. But the second slice was thin crusted goodness! I could fold and enjoy. The best part? The black on my fingers from enjoying because its coal-fired pizza! While we were eating, one of the managers (Mike? He's actually the one in charge of their yelp page so it'll probably make him laugh that I forgot his name) came over and asked how everything was. I told him we found out about the chain on yelp and I was really looking forward to it, and the meal exceeded expectations. He recommended dessert and a box for the leftover pizza. You can always judge an Italian joint by the taste of their tiramisu. Save room for this dessert! I'm telling you, even if you feel full, you can polish off this dessert. Soooooo delicious! Pizza was really good, we were headed for a 5-star review...UNTIL...one of the most awkward and bizarre server/diner encounters took place. Our server, male in his 40s/50s?, presented the check. Until then, he had been good enough. As he dropped the check, he made a very unfortunate remark/"joke": "Here you go, folks...and don't forget, it's 'double-tip Saturday'!". Now, look...I knew it was a joke. However, dude could tell the joke went over like a turd in a punch bowl because he quickly followed it up with "one of my tables once told me I shouldn't make jokes about the tip." Um, YEAH guy. Go with that. You not only made an inappropriate joke about the tip, but you let me know another table found it awkward. You should've heeded that table's advice. I'm not saying I need you to crumb the table or give me 5-star service...but I am saying you shouldn't be making jokes to or even referencing the gratuity. Not weird enough to get a manager involved, but definitely enough to knock the tip down from 25% to about 15%. Bad move, Double-Tip Saturday dude.

Went there with my wife (from NY so a bit of a pizza snob) and my mother (usually finds something wrong EVERY time we go out to eat). My wife said it was the best pizza she has ever had in FL since she moved down over 13 years ago...and my mom cleaned her plate! The atmosphere is really nice with photos of NY present and past and our server was really nice and took good care of the table. I thought the pizza was delicious (ordered a cheese & meatball) and we also had a sausage & meatball calzone which was GREAT! Best pizza in Tampa!! If you've been to the Grimaldi's in Brooklyn and enjoyed it, you will be happy here. It's not identical, but it's darn sure close and much better than the rest of the coal fired attempts popping up around town. One evening I got a few pies to go, and when we were eating them at home, my husband bit into an actual piece of coal! I called and spoke with the manager and he took care of us the next time we came in. We consistently receive good food and service, so I definitely recommend.

We were on our way to BJ's Brewery and saw the sign and immediately stopped in our tracks. Could that be the same Grimaldi's we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge for, got lost once we got to Brooklyn, stood in a line outside for 45 minutes waiting to get in, got insulted by the server, and ate at a communal table and LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT?? I like coal fired pizza but some places make it too done. This place has it right. The crust is crispy, ingredients are fresh (LOVE the cheese!), and it all works together very well. My fiance and I love pizza and we constantly compare places and this one is making it's way into our hearts. The menu is small. Don't expect to come here and get wings, bread sticks, etc... They have salads and pizza/calzones. The beer selection is small but good and included cider (not woodchuck- good thing). If you're looking for an Italian restaurant that has pizza, this is not the place. It's pizza. That's it. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. They have an open plaza out front or inside dining. If the weather's right, it's a lovely to eat outside even if the view is of passing cars at a mall.

Dinner Dec 28 Could be the best (certainly top 3 pizzas in Tampa) -- TRY IT!!! Great crust, thin and crispy -- not all soggy like most NY pizzas I get in Tampa. I loved loved loved the pepperonis! Well worth the wait, but if you don't want to wait, maybe get it to go! Actually had a great conversation with the manager about what makes Grimaldis different than most pizza joints. Its the water! If they don't tell you about it, ask about it. I only drink water with my meals and they may have the best water I have ever drank - seriously! Got a Cannoli as a dessert and it was outstanding! The Mgr and wait staff were all super up tempo and gave off a very positive and fun vibe! Only down side was I wasn't too impressed with their house dressing for salad. It was an oil vinaigrette and it just didn't suit my tastes. and it is a bit pricey! ONE BIT OF ADVICE to Management: please make up some garlic knots or bread sticks! As good as your pizza crust is with your water, i can only imagine how great a bread based appetizer would be!

I've been to Grimaldi's 4 times now, and they still knock it out of the park for the quality of their food. It's really cool that you can have a half white pizza with artichokes and sausage and a marinara style with meatballs on the other! Kudos should also go out to the manager, Michael, and his wait staff. The St. Pete Times (OK, Tampa Bay Times, now) gave them a great write up in Thursdays paper, and the restaurant was SLAMMED with people last night. The volume was simply too much to handle, however, Grimaldi's staff rose to the bell and made our night a great one, when it could easily have turned the other way. It's nice to see that the concept of customer lifetime value is clearly a core focus for Grimaldi's as they continue to grow. This was my favorite spot for a pie in Tampa, and after last evening, it will continue its reign.

I ate at Grimaldi's Pizza for the first time last night. I went in because they were gracious enough to send free birthday pizzas to me and my son. Otherwise, I probably would've just taken him to Pizza Hut, but I'm so glad I didn't, The quality and taste is amazing! I moved here from NY and this is the first place to truly capture a "NY" style thin crust pizza. It wasn't overly saucy and they don't use cheap meats on their pizza. The atmosphere is nice as well. I especially liked the large outdoor eating area. It was a lil cool out but they have heaters set up so we barely noticed. The servers were nice. Ours didn't really check back after we gave our coupon but that's fine too. I appreciated being able to enjoy my meal without being asked if it's good. Lol. The ONLY reason I didn't give Grimaldi's five stars is because the menu is a little pricey. So, it may not become my every weekend pizza place, but they've definitely earned my respect and I will be returning!

Our first visit to this establishment was great. Our second, however, was a disaster. Not only did we wait twenty minutes for our salad appetizers, but we had to wait over an hour for a pizza that never arrived. That's not the worst part though. The worst part is the manager who refused to acknowledge the problem, let alone rectify it. He never returned to our table to explain why we had such an exorbitant wait, nor did he even try to rush a new order. On top of that, we were forced to pay full price for our salads and drinks. My advice is this: if the manager Randy is working, leave and come back when he's not around. The man isn't fit to deliver a pizza, let alone a pizza establishment.

Since we love the original Grimaldi's Pizza in Brooklyn, we were so excited to come try this location in Tampa! The pizza was really good and we got a salad to share which was reasonably priced and nice and fresh. My only complaint was that we got seated in the bar area, which was fine with us, but the bartender was acting as our waiter and if we needed anything throughout our meal (i.e. a water refill, napkins) we had to flag him down. Otherwise, the food is really good and the atmosphere inside is nice!

Grimaldi's had really good pizza and a great ambiance in the restaurant. The service was excellent. The pizza has a thin crust and is baked in a coal-fired oven, which gives it a really great flavor. The sauce was a bit bland for me, but they put some sort of spices on top of the pizza, which counteracted the blandness. I only noticed because, one bite of pizza lacked the spices. The only complaint I really had was the small menu. I would have liked some breadsticks, but they didn't have them.

The pizza was very tasty but it lacked that greasy New York pizza feel (well at least according to my brother). I found it just alright. The sauce is delicious but I found the pie itself to be over priced. The next time I go to NY I'll have to visit the one by the Bklyn bridge and compare. I don't know that I'd go back.
