The VLT is to die for. Have it with a freshly-brewed tea and a vegan cookie! Who doesn't need a cookie?

They have a great sandwich with cole slaw on it too I get it with turkey instead of beef!

Meh- Staff was ok, not great, and the food appears like it is something special, but results are normal as anywhere else considering the beefed up prices. Sorry! I heard their Kale salad is extremely good, though, so willing to try again later. Their tuna salad is misleading if you're used to good seared tuna salads elsewhere like on Howard Ave in S. Tampa. Theirs is literally just a regular tuna fish salad.

Cafe "Hey this is AWESOME" is what they should really call it. Location: A formerly forlorn section of Franklin St just north of 275. Parking: Way easy - 12 hour meters that two bits will get you an hour or so, Inside: Tiny. Well, compared to a lot of places in Tampa 24 seats or so + couch + chairs at the front. Comfy. Service: Excellent. Food: I had a damned fine Cuban sammich. Now, I di dorder it with just mayo/mustard and pickle - and somehow it acquired lettice and tomatos... thats sort of ruins the authenticity there (those items are not kosher on an authentic Cuban, sorry) but I survived. I had a taste of their summer herb-something-gazpacho - it was YUM. Tea: Black iced tea had a lovely flavor. Nice blend. Complaints: None really - only that I need to go back and try it again soon. Note: Get there at 11:45 or risk getting stuck at one of the high tops or outside (not good if its hot) Great space, indie feel, sans the annoying hipsters.

Everyday they serve up a unique variety of sweets that are to die for. Their selection of tea and coffee is huge and in addition to their kale salad their Cuban sandwich is mouth-watering. Don't be scared away by the homeless peep's cruising the block you can keep an eye on your car from the cafe.

So freaking yummy!! Im not a sandwich person at all, but this place is a true gem! I had one of the whole cuban sandwiches and a strawberry scone. Delish!! I'd come here at least once a week if i could.

I love this place. Inventive, healthy delicious food. Great prices. Good coffee. Lots of nice places to sit and work, talk, read, hang. Staff is very friendly and helpful. So many great vegan options. Such good prices! Love it.

1. They didn't have any kale! They have a sticker that says "eat more kale" but how am I even supposed to do that when their "specials board" says, "We do NOT have kale!" Mixed messages! 2. Everybody was so frantic, the two girls behind the counter kept yelling about how they were doing the best that they could, but no one was complaining? Why flip out at your customers when no one was even unhappy? "Uno momento, por favor! We are REALLY BUSY!" isn't a great way to greet people the second they walk in the door. I get that you're the size of my bedroom and you've probably never had more than a half dozen people in there at any given time, but seriously, just calm down, it's Saturday afternoon and no one's going anywhere anytime soon. 3. Furthermore, the "fixin's" bar was smack dab behind a table? Why? I don't want to reach over some weird old dude to grab a packet of sugar. 4. I asked for non-fat, and the guy behind the counter said, "milk?" No, genius, something else for my iced coffee. 5. A large iced coffee is about four dollars, which is the norm for Brooklyn, but for a divey place under an overpass in Tampa (that doesn't even have KALE), it's a bit much.

The espresso was fantastic. The Cuban sandwich was a cold version and just ok. Our pastries were good.

I've been to Cafe Hey a few times now and have always pleased. The service is prompt and the coffee is good. On my most recent visit I finally had lunch there and ordered the Ham and Swiss sandwich. The sandwich was great with plenty of meet and cheese and on great Cuban bread. My only request next time would be to go a bit lighter on the maple Dijon sauce - it was yum - but I am not a heavy sauce person. The place is a bit small so seating can be limited depending on when you go but other then that it's a great place to frequent just north of downtown Tampa.

They have almond milk! For some reason, that seems to be rare at coffee shops. Excellent menu and vibe. Has not been packed, in my experience, which makes it enjoyable yet does make me wish their business was doing a little better, given the great quality.

Not impressed. I went here because a local paper was trying to get people to vote between this place and Moxie's. I had a cup of so-so soup and quite possibly the worst slice of quiche I've ever had. My girlfriend had a bowl of oatmeal that she said was 'okay'. I ordered a Cafe Mocha to drink and she had a Chai Latte. Her Chai finally came out about 2 minutes after we had finished eating, which was about 30 minutes after we had ordered. The bill was $22.00 for that. I see no reason to ever go back. Moxie's DEFINITELY gets my vote!

Quaintly eccentric gem smack dab in the middle of Sketchville, USA. The local art is hung with care along the brick wall. The indie workers were laid back and adorable. I just wish this effing place isn't where it's located. There seemed to be a lot of people going in and out, so I feel like they have the potential to move to another location and keep their following. It needs to be....less next to an overpass. I did not partake in the multitude of food options they have here, just a plain ole iced mocha latte for me. I would like to say it was rather delish. I'll come back. Thumbs up Cafe Hey!

Cafe Hey has to be one of the best hidden gems in Tampa. Their soup of the day (sometimes two choices) is always delicious and different. They're made fresh every day and sold "vintage" the next day for a steal at 2$ a bowl...but you have to go home to heat it up. No microwaves. Their owner also bakes fresh treats daily. My favorite sandwich is Turkey and Swiss. It sounds boring but it's yummy so I don't care. If you work downtown or live anywhere in the Tampa area, you definitely need to eat here. You'll be hooked.

Pretty cool hipster coffee place. Has almond milk lattes (which I've never seen before but love!!!) and kale salads. Pretty awesome! Free wifi. They have some funky stuff (like a chocolate ginger latte that I wasn't brave enough to try). Very inexpensive. Lots of food. A couple vegan options with a cuban twist. Plan on going back soon. :)

Back for more, I found that Cafe Hey has it down for consistent work. Nice breakfast burrito was fresh and flavors were nice together and yet identifiable. Nice coffee, tasty Cuba toast. I go in here to lay back and unwind. Go here for good food, intentionally slow service, (meant as a compliment) chilling out, It's not cheap, but a good value. Cafe Hey does a good job of being what they want to be. Kudos!

Just came back from lunch at Cafe Hey. I'm always looking for new places to explore in Tampa, and this one had just been recommended to me as a low key lunch place. It is on the corner of Franklin and Kay, with parking out front or under the over pass. The cafe is small with 5-6 small tables and a couple of pub tables down the hall. It is really more of a dive than a cafe-- i mean that in a good way-- an unassuming mix of tasty real food in an organic, grungy-hip setting. The art changes every couple of weeks. The current exhibit is kitchy portrait photos of Tampa's own Derby Darlins roller derby team (gonna check that out too). The menu offers breakfast --eggs and oatmeal--and lunch selections like shredded kale salad, sandwiches like "Turkey in the Grass"-- turkey, cream cheese, cucumber, watercress and basaltic vinegar on toasted fresh (local) cuban, and the "Ham and Pickle" -- ham, sharp white cheddar, pickles, lettuce, and spicy, garlic chutney. Delicious, simple, clean flavors-- totally satisfying. Ate an awesome chocolate latte cookie still warm from the oven. Washed it all down with iced green tea and my daughter had bottle lemonade. We ate for @$15. By the time we left the place was bustling with college students, local business people and devoted regulars. Thursday nights is open mic night-- I will definitely go back. The only reason I did not give Cafe Hey 5 stars was because the people behind the counter were a pretty brusque (but not rude). A sincere smile would have landed a solid 5 stars.

Have to disagree with Michala T., this place is not really hipster, which I associate with rich kids who spend 3 hrs prepping themselves to look like it only took 5 min, but true hippie-ish. Diverse clientele that increased dramatically in numbers at lunch. I started the morning with a cafe con leche with almond milk that was creamy and perfectly sweetened (no additives needed). Tears fell when I took the last sip. I then held out until lunch when I ordered the cup of pumpkin soup and a Mi Cubano sandwich. Both were amazing with large portions. Decor was fun with lots of (I assume) local art displayed. My favorite was the ET VHS display. This place is now on the rotation.

Any complaint I might have about this place is immediately invalidated by their sandwiches. Seriously, eat that fucking cuban. It's a porkgasm.

You know what rules? Riding your bike through the deserted streets of downtown Tampa on a Sunday morning, and then winding up at Cafe Hey for a large coffee and an unbelievably reasonably priced A-to-Z Sandwich. Cafe Hey is pretty no-frills, but it's cozy and the food is fresh. I liked the self-serve coffee carafes, and the fact that there were two different roasts to choose from. My breakfast sandwich was enormous and only $4.50. If it hadn't been so big, I might have tried one of the baked goods, which also looked delightful. My vegan friend was really happy with her VLT as well.

This is a heavily biased review, because I am obsessed with kale, and this is a kale-promoting restaurant. Oftentimes nutritious, healthy food that's prepared at a restaurant is either drowning in soy sauce or tamari or is just completely unexciting and flavorless. Cafe Hey has a very respectable kale salad, great coffee, good soups, and decent sandwiches. I'd definitely re-visit. I don't know about their other desserts, but I am not a fan of their vegan cookies...they're too dry and crumbly. Then again, I've been spoiled by Central Cafe & Organics in St. Pete - the best vegan cookie I have ever had!

Favorite downtown cafe in Tampa. Funky, different, yet totally cool to chill in the back wearing a tie, drink coffee and work. Switch to great craft beer after 5p and plow through the paperwork.

Great spot, off the beaten path. Good healthy food from local sources. Service was fine. Came in from out of town & needed a quiet cafe to work, eat lunch and get a coffee. Not fancy if that's what you're looking for, a funkier vibe.

Since the first Yelp post I have eaten lunch. I had a garden salad and sandwich both were great and plentiful. I suggest getting lunch here. I have also eaten several of the tempting brownies on the counter beware these are addictive once you eat one you will be going back. But dont trust my post go see for yourself I would be willing to bet you will be back.

This cafe is always so cozy and endearing yet exciting to see what Chef Anne has whipped up for the day. I really really love the "Ric Ross" sandwich. It has the best of all worlds, sweet, spicy, savory, meat, vegetables and it's pressed so it's crunchy too! The yogurt parfait is a great breakfast. It's such a healthy start of the day. You got your dairy, grains, and fruits all in one! They've also started doing Open Mic every Thursday night, which brings in an interesting night crowd. You definitely have to try this place out!

I drove by this place a million times before I ever stopped in. Let's be honest its curb appeal is pretty lacking, but don't let the exterior fool you...there is good food inside. I've been there for breakfast and lunch and even though it is tiny inside I've been able to get a seat without too much trouble. I love that they have organic and vegetarian options and have a commitment to using fresh and local foods when they can. It's a funky little arty spot with art on the walls, open mic night etc. I've had the ham and pickle sandwich. I love that it's on the toasted Cuban bread and the salty ham combined with the sweet and vinegary mango chutney and sharp cheddar really wakes up the taste buds. I've also had the VLT, which is vegan bacon, tomato, lettuce and veganaise. Again I love the Cuban bread, but next time I would add some avocado as I just felt like something was lacking. For breakfast I've had the A to Z which is avocado, turkey, provolone, tomato and eggs. I had them put it in a wrap but you can get Cuban bread too. The food I've had is solid, but never knocks my socks off. I often stop in to get some tea as they have an extensive menu. I'm a fan of the naturally sweet rooibos teas, particularly the hawaiian divine and chai. The price is right for what they are doing here. Support Local!

This place is a great contribution to the arts and food community. They have an awesome open mic and the people there are pretty cool. The sandwich I had there was very good Side Note. I could give a shit if the do not have any kale.

So, one bad day doesn't a full "review" make, but it deserves a mention, nonetheless. This morning, I headed to Cafe Hey for breakfast and studying. Again, the atmosphere here is great, but today's service was horrid. I ordered the quiche. The counter told me that it would take about 7 mins to warm up (they would bring it to me). I sought out a table and turned on my iPod and read. I realized about 20 mins past, and I walked up to the counter. They looked at me with "who are you" eyes, and I told them I ordered the quiche. "The quiche," she exclaimed. She went to the oven and took out a burnt, dried piece of quiche. She said she could make me another piece if I wanted. If I wanted? That's an odd, and stupid, question. I didn't appreciate her tone or her excuse: "We usually set a timer, but this time we didn't." So, I asked for my money back and left. She was surprised I wanted my money back. Plus, I was in a bad mood at that point, so she wasn't too happy with my leaving. She did come back out to my car (I was parked right in front) to say "sorry" and offer me a frequent diner card with this meal "punched," but I said, "No, thank you." Yes, I was a bit bitchy, but I was in no mood to be nice, anymore, at least. Again, one experience was good (a week ago) and one was horrible (a couple of days ago). Perhaps, the indy coffee shop mentality is too sporadic to ever judge as a whole. Regardless, for what it's worth, that was my experience, and this is my rating for Cafe Hey.

I've loved every visit to this simple little wonder in Tampa Heights. Just the fact that the food board proudly proclaims, "Yes! We have kale!" makes me want to keep coming back. Let's get the boring stuff out of the way: the coffee is good and doesn't taste like Burntbucks, there's free wi-fi for your web addiction, and the requisite "grunge vs. art" ratio is holding up quite well and making all little coffeeshops proud. What makes this place great is the general atmosphere, which is welcoming, friendly, and accepting of all types, from businessman to bike-riding vegan. They really seem supportive of the Tampa communities, from the bike kids, to the music scene, to moms who want tea, to the veggie/eco/sustainability crowd. It's "indie" in the way that won't make you barf. The only drawback is that their hours take getting used to...like you might want to write them on something and put them in your wallet...it's that random. But if their only problem is that they're not open enough, they must be doing something right. So, the next time you're in Tampa Heights, grab your laptop out of your car and go to Cafe Hey to sip on a drink, flirt with hipster girls who are out of your league, and talk to an old lady about the weather.

Cafe Hey is an excellent indie cafe in the Downtown area with a myriad of vegetarian sandwich selections, and a plenty of variety among their chef specials throughout the week. When you walk into Cafe Hey, you feel less like a customer and more like you just joined a community. Be warned: it's TINY, and not really in the greatest neighborhood - but it's quaintly decorated and definitely worth trying out. Pro tip: Check out the amazing oriental grocery store next door!

We have been looking to come to this place for a long time, since I only live about 5 blocks away, and I hate supporting Starbucks. The service was great, I loved the atmosphere, the food was good for what we got, and the drinks were amazing. They actually had great art on the wall, which normally, the art sucks in these places, but this place has great art. Everything about this place was what I was looking for in an indie coffee shop, and I finally found it. I only wish thy were open a little earlier, but other than that great overall place to go!!!

I only wish Cafe Hey were closer, like in Seminole Heights, then it would be perfect. We need more places like Cafe Hey in the area. Although I've only been a handful of times, each time I've always enjoyed myself at this cozy little spot - plus, free wireless! It's a great place to catch a quick meal, or catch up with friends. Last time I was there they were having a movie screening, which was pretty awesome. Be forewarned: It's tiny, so it's not the best place to bring over a large group of friends. With that in mind, it's definitely worth checking out if you're ever in the downtown area.

If you want a chain restaurant experience, don't go to Cafe Hey.. If you want a Starbucks experience.. don't go to Cafe Hey.. If you want to dine on home made baked goods and the best, most creative soups I've ever had then go to Cafe Hey. If you want downtown Tampa to become a place of amazing creativity and brilliant small businesses then go to Cafe Hey.. Have we gotten so used to chain standards and chain service and chain food that we cannot appreciate a small creative business? If real people creep you out and real homemade food isn't appealing then go grab a bite and a cup of coffee at Starbucks or Panera and support big corporate businesses. Keep doing it until we have a giant mall with a Bennigans and Cheesecake Factory right in the middle of downtown Tampa this way you can go anywhere in the country and not feel like you left home because it's all the same.

You owe it to yourself to try this little gem. My friend and I ordered the goat cheese sandwich with roasted vegetables. It was quite flavorful and even inspires fond memories now as I recall it. The staff there could not be friendlier. It is a perfect place for people who work in downtown Tampa and are looking for something new for lunch. It also has a bohemian flavor that makes it comfortable for less straight-laced types.

Fantastic service! The cashier was a complete sweetheart! And the food... Wow! Her recommendation of the AB-B-A was spot on! The setting is adorable and artsy. Local art if hanging from the walls ready to be sold. Free WiFi is available. Great selection of beers. And they cater to both carnies and vegans equally! As well as having gluten free options for those with sensitivity! If you are in the downtown area of Tampa stop by and have a treat!

Let me tell you how awesome Cafe Hey is. It is pretty incredible. I have been a vegetarian for 5 years. Eating at cafe Hey brought joy to my life. You can order any dish as a vegan or vegetarian option. The cheesecake is insane. Do yourself a favor. Eat here every day. Your body will thank you!

This is a Tampa classic. A holdout (along with Oriental Market) in newly blossoming Tampa Heights. This little counter culture artsy vegan friendly coffee shop serves up some tasty homestyle vittles in the midst of a a chillaxified earhty vibe. Sit back, relax, and contemplate your tattoos and nose rings. It's all good.

Really comfortable little dive cafe with great service. Someone there had a complaint about a fruit bowl they were served - slightly funky smell to it - and the guy behind the counter promptly asked her favorite fruits and veg and created a new dish for her right there. Nice! I had a fantastic Cuban. My only complaint is the terrible part of town that it's in. Stepping over homeless guys sleeping on the sidewalk outside at 11pm doesn't give a patron the warm and fuzzies, but whatcha gonna do.

Fantastic kale salad with smoked salmon, the presentation was nice and very flavorful along with a cup that was really a bowl of the vegetable soup that had a wonderful aroma with an understated flavor. The ice tea was fresh brewed with just enough sweet.

BEST CUBAN IN TAMPA, especially the Mi Cubano. I don't care what the reviews say, Im Cuban and I can't get enough of the Mi Cubano... DELICIOUS!!!! This place is a gem! Don't forget to try a wannabe if you're lucky and they have some when you pop in!

We stopped by here after visiting the river walk. Our son got a breakfast burrito ( don't ask) which was good. The rest of us order three different sandwiches all were really good. We will definitely be return to try more of the menu.

I used to work downtown so this place was very convenient for a quick lunch. It's right next to Oceanic so there's plenty of parking in that same lot. I really like the VLT sandwich (add avocado for $1 more. Totally worth it!) and their organic green tea. I have mine dry pressed to perfection! The sandwiches are big and filling. They also say they carry vegan desserts but anytime I have been in they were out. I'm giving it 3 stars because of the service. Almost every time I've been in there the employees are arguing with each other. During my last visit someone in the back was berating the woman taking my order. It was so uncomfortable. Food takes awhile to prepare (you can call ahead) so just sitting there listening to arguments while you wait is very awkward. Limited seating inside and a few tables outside so if you come at lunch time you might want to get food to go. They also have a vegan brunch every so often but I haven't tried it.

I come here a lot when I visit the 'rents. Occasionally, I'm afraid I'm not hip/cool enough to hang out here. I'm sure I miss more than my share of obscure art/literary/music references in conversation, BUT, kale salad, iced tropical tea, delicious soups & (don't tell on me!) the delicious pastries get me past my fear of being too bourgeois to hang. Besides, the folks behind the counter are kind & welcoming behind their heavy-framed glasses & "I've never heard of them" concert t-shirts. Who knows? Maybe some of it will rub off on me?

Not the cleanest, but I guess that's part of the "charm"? Food was descent, very accommodating staff. Horrible area of town, boarder line unsafe. I gave 1/2 my sandwich to a homeless man. Be prepared to be asked for change by the vagrants that hang out. Too bad, the place has potential; but I probably won't return.

This is one of my favorite places in Tampa to relax, study, do research, and hold small forums. With our lecture series and forums, for nearly two years, we used Cafe Hey as the exclusive location. The staff and owner were always great, friendly, professional. We packed the cafe one to tow night a month. The food is truly wonderful, and I see why they have been rated and the top coffee in Tampa to eat at. My favorite in the A-Z Sandwich, and all the goodness it's packed with. It's a sandwich with pressed Cuban bread, turkey, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and American cheese. All of the food is fresh and/or organic and prepared well. The daily special is always special and is not always on the every day menu, so if you like little surprises show up daily and get their special. The only thing you might see as an issue in the pricing of some items, I go for the experience, atmosphere, and the good food, and am willing to pay just whatever to put in front of me because I enjoy it that much. Some of use are more frugal than others so understand there is no $.99 menu, but everything you get is fresh, organic, and enjoyable. I strongly recommend Cafe Hey to everyone living in or visiting Tampa. Buen Provecho!

Cob webs, crawling bugs, dirty kitchen, forgotten order just don't replace for half-way decent sandwiches. I wonder if this establishment gets fined by health inspectors. I am not a frequent one-star reviewer but Cafe Hey just doesn't have any excuses for doing so poorly. Hygene aside, the staff CLEARLY do not seem to want to work here. They don't even say hello (none of the 3 that were manning the desk during my visit), they even ignored me for quite a while as I stood to place my order, while they criticized the paying customer in front of me who just happened to misread the price of a drink. The iced coffee drinks I ordered were decent ( Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Cafe Con Leche ). The Mi Cubano and Rebel Rebel were both just so-so. The Breakfash Sandwich was in the same grade. I am puzzled quite frankly given some of the other good reviews of the place. My visit here was just a quite bad one. Oh by the way, this place is NOT good for kids. The art and paintings on the walls are just not kid appropriate. The fixes IMHO are relatively easy - CLEAN the PLACE, It can be made into an inviting space, Organizing the furniture better and maybe even get some proper tables and stable chairs. Hiring staff who are proud or at least like to work here and show it to the customers. I say to Cafe Hey, don't give up just because you are located next a highway overpass and some decrepit looking neighboring stores that are shuttered up. Don't given in the to the image of a corner convenience store that serves coffee and sandwiches. You have TREMENDOUS potential.

This is one of the most vegan friendly places in Tampa. I'm hooked on the VLT w avocado. A pressed Cuban bread with vegan bacon, and vegan mayo in place of the other stuff. People ask me if I don't miss eating meat and with food like that, why would I? They have other menu selections but I have never ordered anything but the VLT, I just can't do it. The bake goods are just as good and if you are lucky enough to stumble upon the mythical cheesecake(v) make sure to order it right then and there. The last Sunday of the month they offer a special brunch with an expanded menu and unlimited mimosas for about $10. Actually, only then is when I order something other than the VLT. This place is something out of Portlandia and I like it more cause of that. I hope with the construction boom about to happen in The Heights that we don't lose this great cafe.

The vegan BLT was weird and gross: a few slices of Smart Bacon, bagged iceberg lettuce shreds, two underripe tomato slices, and a mouthful of Vegannaise in every bite. The pressed Cuban bread saved this sandwich but I'd eat anything on Cuban bread...anything. I wish I could take back my ravenous hunger and use it someplace else. Boo.

I really like the vegetarian options, but I think they cost more than assembling your own meal. If you look at the bottom of the menu, you'll see that they have an option to build your own sandwich, starting with Cuban cheese bread. I put Jack cheese with peppers, tomatoes, and hummus. The result is a sandwich that is cheaper than what's on the menu yet still very tasty.

Like a beacon in the night, a diamond in the rough, there's Cafe Hey! Located along a desolate, industrial feeling strip, you'd never expect to find this hip, vegan-friendly cafe. Somehow they hit the vibe just right, a little crunchy, a little trendy, a lot relaxed, and a way lot good food. We stopped in for breakfast while in town for a wedding with two vegans, a vegetarian, an omnivore and a baby in tow- not the easiest crowd I'm sure. We found a perfect spot for a small group near the window and were super impressed with the menu. If you can bring a friend or two and share dishes I'd recommend it, there's just so much great stuff! Even if you're not vegan or vegetarian, if you love fresh, delicious food and kick-ass coffee, you're going to be happy here.

Had a few sandwiches here and all have been great. Definitely recommend trying the Upper West Side Cuban. For drinks, the iced chai tea hits the spot on a hot day. Overall, good place to chill and get some work done with sandwiches that are pretty unique.

I've dined here numerous times and not one complaint ! The food is always delicious the drinks wether coffee or tea are perfection. It's really one of the city's hidden gems.
An artsy joint, with lots of seating inside and out. My vegan friend and I (mostly vegan) went. I am in love! There aren't many places that offer palatable food for the vegan, let alone delicious food! PLUS they buy locally! PLUS they are courteous! I already have plans to go back. YAY!

3.5 Okay, I really like this place because of it's quirky interior, friendly staff and the food and beverages are made with some serious tlc. If you want an alternative to a yappy chain coffee house, this is a great place off the beaten path. This place boasts its variety of coffee roasts, local beer brews and even complementary triple filtered water. My boyfriend got the Cuban sandwich and I got the T'ank - a vegetarian sandwich. We both enjoyed what we got. The only reason I can't honestly give it 4 stars is because I felt like it wasn't the best value. So my sandwich is vegetarian - so the most expensive ingredient (meat) is not in my sandwich and yet I paid $7 for shards of avocado and cheese, not good thick slices of either. That's why I subtracted a star. While They have an excellent menu, I felt the meal was lacking some substance. I mean, if I get a veggie sandwich I want some hearty slices of veggie; not veggie remnants- as good as it was. I will still want to come again and try their other sandwich options.

I loved the ambiance of this place, I really did. It's my kind of place. Fun, funky food and coffee in a quirky old store front. Brick walls, bikes stacked up, Dinosaur Jr on the PA. I'd hang out here drinking coffee for hours no doubt. I also appreciate an aggressive Vegan menu, with plenty of options for omnivores too. It makes for a great place to go for a sandwich that satisfies everybody's needs. If I live in Tampa, it would probably become a regular haunt of mine. The food wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't really do a lot for me. I had the VLT, and I love a good VLT (and honestly haven't had a great one since Bohemia closed down in St Pete), but it just didn't have a ton of flavor. Too much veganaise and I am not sure what they were using for the bacon, but it really didn't add much other than texture to the sandwich. All in all, I loved this little cafe space in Tampa and I'll be back. Some work on the food to make it great and it would probably have me crossing the bridge on the regular.

Wow, what a disappointment. The food is not bad, but not good enough to make up for the rude girl working there. We thought maybe she was rude to us because she could tell that we aren't hipsters, but she was rude to everyone. I'll never go back.

This is really 3.5 but I just couldn't bump it up to 4. Also, I'm reviewing strictly their "Not Just for Omnivores Brunch." Cafe Hey! does brunch on the last Sunday of the month. As the name implies, vegans are very welcome. They started this a few years ago. I went the first few months but found they had some consistency issues - maybe they were tweaking recipes? But I went for the March 2014 brunch and the consistency issues were still there. I ordered the vegan chicken and waffles which came with polenta grits (redundant name, they're the same thing) and gravy. Now the vegan chicken was out of this world. Homemade seitan, flavor, just awesome. But the waffles? They pretty much tasted like baking soda if I ate them on their own. The waffles needed a heavy dose of syrup plus a piece of vegan chicken to be palatable. Other consistency issues - two in my party ordered the traitors Benedict but one plate was missing several components. I'll be back. But pretty much just because this is the only vegan brunch option in tampa. Get it together Cafe Hey! I really want to love you.

Cafe Hey is a cool little spot on the outskirts of Downtown Tampa. The menu is incredibly funky. They've got tons of great food options. I've not had anything yet that didn't impress. On my last trip, I hesitantly ordered their Cuban sandwich. Normally, I would only eat this sandwich at a Cuban restaurant. While, Cafe Hey's version was in no way an authentic Tampa Cuban Sandwich, nor did it pretend to be. It was, however, the fanciest version I've ever had and it was fantastic.

I've stopped here twice and both times I just wasn't overly impressed. I like the idea of Cafe Hey. Small, independent coffee/brunch spots are usually a favorite. It's a very small space though and gets extremely crowded. I would have liked to try the food but waiting for one of the few tables probably would have taken forever. Both times I've tried the coffee which was decent.

The food is freshly made, tasty and typically creative in terms of successfully showcasing seasonal ingredients and unusual combinations. The baked goods always stand out and the selection of soups, salads, quiches and sandwiches can be equally appealing. Beverages are a big part of this cafe's popularity and they are delicious. Coffee and tea drinks are made to order and concocted to please. Everyone I have ever introduced to Cafe Hey has enjoyed the helpful staff, local art displayed and, of course, the feel-good food that is both nutritious and delicious.

Cafe Hey is the definition of a granola, hippy, medical (and non-medical) cannabis coffee shop. It is located on the traditionally wrong side of downtown Tampa and if it wasn't for the I275 overpass you would have a beautiful view of the jail. Oddly it all works and I cannot imagine Cafe Hey being anywhere else. The staff fits the description from my opening line and undoubtedly hold up the line at TSA removing the metal from their haphazardly located body and facial piercings, but they are all very pleasant and helpful. Food quality is excellent and there appear to be many choices for the vegan, vegetarian, lactose intolerant. gluten intolerant, and ethically motivated. Not falling into any of those categories I can freely choose from the menu. For a healthy breakfast I can recommend the 1 Up, egg whites, turkey, and cream cheese in a wrap which is then lightly pressed and served hot with a terrific light crispiness. You can also substitute smoke salmon for the turkey which is a nice change up. For lunch the kale salad by itself or with smoked salmon or tuna salad is a great choice. Did I mention that both the 1 UP and the kale salad are better with a bit of Sirachi (sp?) sauce? Well they are. Other good lunch choices, especially on a cold day, are the soups. They are generally quite hearty albeit a bit light on salt for my taste. Maybe just a bit to heart healthy. Lots of very good sandwiches and most are better served pressed and hot. The only complaint I might have is that the service is predictably slow but then if this place ran like a well oiled machine it would not have the charm and character that it does. Just make sure you don't go when you are in a hurry.

I love this place. They have tons of sandwich and drink options. You have a laundry list of teas to choose from. You will be pleased.

Meh, not much to say. Not horrible but nothing worth returning for either. I had the half rebel turkey sandwich and a side of the quinoa salad. The best thing about the sandwich is that its served on la segunda's Cuban bread, but that's about it. The quinoa was lacking flavor and $10 later I left hungry.

Chill atmosphere and quality ingredients for an affordable price. Went with an Iced Cafe Con Leche (with Soy) and Cuban toast with a side of mojo pork, yumm!

Its Ok. Not great. Its cool to have an Indie theme and alternative foods..but very limited vegan menu and my wife got food poisoning off the vegan mac and cheese. She only ate half before she said she just couldn't force any more in...the taste apparently was horrendous and actually was ill all day from it. My pressed nova sandwich was good at first then the taste of old salmon kept in my mouth throughout the day. Not sure if it was just old or not. Last note is this: if you claim to be all Eco friendly and green, why not use organic everything? Coffee is not organic. The only reason why they got 3 stars from me is because i like their concept, and at least they are trying.

Great food and good atmosphere (albeit it depends on the time). Their sandwiches are huge. My friend and I split the ABBA, which had apricot jam, almond butter, bananas, and brown sugar. We both could not imagine how we would have eaten the whole sandwich. I really appreciate when a menu features unique options. This sandwich is definitely unique and there were tons of other choices on the menu that were different as well. The bread was fresh and I loved this sandwich. I've been here before when they had a musical performance. It definitely has a hipster vibe. When i first got there it was completely empty. However, as it got closer to when the performance was scheduled it filled up to a couple more people. It would have been cooler if there were more people. There's something to be said about having a packed house. I have also come to a debate they hosted here. They sell alcohol at night, which is a nice perk. All their events are pretty quirky and indie. I like this place, but I do not think I'm hipster enough to appreciate its full potential. Also, the location kind of sucks, but the parking lot nearby makes it easy to get to.

Popped in for an afternoon pick-me-up. Their "Black Hole" was just the ticket. It's iced coffee with added espresso. The coffee and espresso itself are so flavorful. Not too bold, not too weak. I ordered it with some SF vanilla syrup and nonfat milk. For once in my life, I didn't have to add any sweetener! It was delicious and did just the trick. I had lunch waiting at the office so I only grabbed a side of their fruit salad, but it was so fresh and tasty. All the fruit were at the peak of ripeness. My boss grabbed her favorite The ABBA sandwich (almond butter, apricot jam, and banana). It looked amazing! I'll definitely try that next time. Great first impression. It's a little hard to figure out the identity of this place, but that's kind of what makes it so fun :)

Neat little place. I thought the cuban sandwich was a nice variation - fresh and hot and a little different than your regular cuban - and it was pretty darn big, in my opinion. If I hadn't split it with someone I'd have taken half of it home. The banana nut bread was good as well. Wouldn't have normally stopped by but I was there already for an event. Took a while longer than we thought it should to get our food, but it was quite busy with the event going on.
Cafe Hey is a small art cafe located just off of downtown Tampa on Franklin St. It's hard not to order the same thing every time I go: the Festival Turkey. And... I was delighted to learn most recently, that I could order it as a wrap. Cafe Hey is one of the few places in Tampa that offers great vegan options as well, among them being kale! Try to find that at any other restaurant here in the Bay Area. So... a big yay... for Cafe Hey!

I just happened to be in the area and saw this on Yelp. I'm glad I did because this place was awesome. It's a little local place with a cool artsy vibe. The have a nice selection of coffees, teas and beers. They have a lot of vegan options and local produce. Now to the food I had their "Mi Cubano" which is mix between a Cuban and a Vietnamese Banh Mi. It was awesome and the bread was on point. My wife had the "A to Z" which had eggs, turkey, provolone, tomatoes and avocado, it was even better than mine. Of course we needed dessert so we had one of their Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls, oh yes amazing and we also had a Vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, it was perfect. So all in all great experience and next time I'm in Tampa definitely stopping here.

This is a fantastic place to eat lunch or breakfast. You'll find the service is not all that great but the food and atmosphere is definitely worth it. I love the turkey sandwich with cranberry . it's always delicious and fresh

Their gluten free bread is my favorite. This is the first gluten free friendly sandwich place I've ever been to. And my vegan friend loves their Vegan version of the BLT the VLT. Fantastic!

Cafe Hey is a really great place to just sit down and chill for a bit. There's a relaxed, bohemian vibe. Off the beaten path in the outskirts of downtown, people who come here do so because they know about it. The food is good, with a variety of pressed sandwiches, salads, and the like. There's also a good variety of beers and coffee drinks. There's no other place like this in Tampa... do yourself a favor and check it out.
The place has a definite hipster vibe, but the servers are friendly and the food is good. I'm not normally a fan of vegan food, but I do like their vegan baked goods. This is a nice place to study and catch up your writing, grading, or other computer work.

Fantastic, healthy food. Went for brunch on a Sunday. I got the Cuban toast with eggs, avocado, peppers, tomatoes and swiss. It was excellent and featured a generous amount of the toppings. My wife got the ABBA sandwich: bananas, almond butter, apricot jam and cinnamon on Cuban toast. (Maybe not as healthy, but phenomenal!) We also got cafe salads, which were just like we'd make at home. Oh, and good coffee to top it off. Eclectic, comfortable atmosphere with a creative menu for omnivores and vegans alike. A jewel!

As a middle aged man, I was intimidated when I first walked in here. I am completely not cool enough to be hanging out here; the people behind the counter wear ripped jean shorts and Jesus sandals, and the place appears to cater to the hipster crowd. I am so glad I stayed, The hippies behind the counter are nice, helpful, and patient. An absolute delight. The coffee is good, and after a number of visits and a number of different sandwiches and salads, I have always had excellent food! The place is small, but I have always found a seat and have managed to read and get work done there. A great place to go drink coffee, eat, and read.

This is a deliberately funky coffee/sandwich shop. I have sampled several times and enjoyed the brew, sandwiches & soup. They have multiple vegetarian options and some fine sandwich breads. The tiny place is in the corner of the Oceanic Asian market, looking downtown towards the Interstate. You gotta want to go there. Service is not always quick if they get backed up, and there are lots of unique bottled drink options (no alcohol). You order at the counter amid counter-culture flyers/brochures and cookies, and can eat in or take out. It seems they have wi-fi since there are usually a few folks parked at the sparse tables, nursing a drink and focused on keyboard. Clientele is a mix of hipsters, office types and squares like me. Staff is welcoming even if I do not look like a lefty cause supporter, and I do not feel compelled to apologize for looking like a Republican. Actually the place is a welcome change from Starbucks or more structured/snobbish coffee shops. You can park in the Oceanic Market lot and walk south to the Hey entrance and pretend you are a street person.

Thanks to Yelp, I just had a mushroom quiche that had the right amount of cheese and hint of fresh veggies. Highly recommend it! The chai latte was delicious too. The service was also excellent and the ambiance is a bohemian oasis in the middle of Tampa. Will be returning here on future trips to the area.

This is a cool little shop in downtown Tampa that serves up quality sandwiches to complement its extensive coffee and tea menu. I had the Turkey in the Grass on Cuban bread. The sandwich comes with turkey, cream cheese, watercress, cucumbers and balsamic. I really liked the combination of flavors on this one and it was nearly as rich as my boyfriend's Cuban (rich, but quite delicious!). With numerous flavors of coffee, I had to sample one of the Cafe Hey recommendations and went with the Almond Joy, which tasted good but almost bordered on too sweet and would have made a better dessert than coffee to go with my meal. The place is a bit on the smaller side, but I had no trouble getting a table for two at lunchtime on a Sunday. I can see how it could get really crowded in there, especially since there are board games available to play. And, yes, the food comes out a little on the slower side but I think it's worth it. Also, this place is open on Sundays - certainly a plus in downtown Tampa.

There are so many things about Cafe Hey to love ... the vibe, the type of people, the food - Lots of vegan/vegetarian options, and, seriously, I don't know what it is about their oatmeal but I've been known to drive from Downtown Clearwater to Downtown Tampa just for a bowl of their oatmeal! Cafe Hey is the kind of place I can come and sit for hours to read, write, work, people watch, eavesdrop, and just let my mind wander -- and I often do all of the above. It's a hidden little gem near downtown Tampa. Oops, maybe not so hidden anymore...

Adorable little place. Service was quick and friendly. Sandwiches look not too big but very filling. Cuban sandwich is the best I ever had. El Cubano is a little vinegary. Only negative thing: cashier has long beard and probably will fit better on the kitchen.

Best vegan BLT ("VLT") and they have almond milk for coffees and teas and even vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookies!

Nice place to hang out with a cup of coffee. The food is excellent but a little overpriced. Staff could be a little friendlier some times too but I know they are busy!!!

Rarely do I post a bad review, but this time to service was so bad I was compelled to. 1) I asked for a Cafe Mocha (thinking erroneously that they would have it), and the server acted like I was an ignoramus and asked "Do you want to see a drink menu?"). 2) When I went to give him my debit card, she snatched it out of my hand. 3) I paid for a coffee and a quiche, and had to grab the quiche myself, because the two people behind the counter were to involved in a conversation. 4) Overpriced. 5) After coming to the place, I made up a new adjective: hipster-douchebag I will say that the coffee was good and the quiche was solid, but you can get that anywhere. (otherwise it was one star!) PS: I only went to this place because the Asian Grocery store around the corner was closed.

On a random trip downtown I decided to see if Cafe Hey was still open - I'd visited years ago but hadn't been in a long time! I stopped in to try the turkey Yoshimi sandwich and garden salad - the Yoshimi is delicious and one of my favorites. You can't go wrong with kim chee on a local cuban bread with shaved turkey and cream cheese! Their fare is mostly vegetarian and vegan, but fresh and delicious. Nothing is super unique or 'custom' but their local art on the walls and free wifi make this place a chill hangout to think and relax. They also have a nice selection of coffee and tea - the Cherry Rose Green tea is relish!

We came here after a mid-day bike ride in need of shade, food and drink. It's a cool spot- industrial, small but with plenty of tables, and certainly hipsterish. The shop showcases local art on the walls, one of which had a large caption that said something along the lines of "No, I do not want to have sex with you in a port-o-potty." Seeing kids old enough to read and ask questions sitting right next to this painting made me feel a little weird, but as a woman I can relate to the message. The drinks were okay, but the chai latte didn't taste like chai, just milk. Perhaps I am used to a more spiced version. The food was great but we had to send my boyfriend's sandwich back because it had multiple hairs baked into it. That made me wonder about how seriously they take food safety precautions. We are pretty low maintenance and rarely bothered by something like that but we kept finding more and more. I like that they had many vegetarian and vegan options, as someone who is trying to cut out meat! I'm still guilty of eating birds once in a while so I tried a turkey sandwich and it was delicious. Light but filling at the same time. That is about it. If this sounds like your kind of scene, you'll love this place.

Menu's on the smaller side but everything they do at Cafe Hey, they do right. They also have ever changing specials. You've gotta love how vegan friendly this place is. Their sandwiches pressed hot on Cuban bread are wonderful and the fact that they serve Buddy Brew coffee makes it even better. I also love how Cafe Hey serves as a showcase space for local artists. My favorite sandwich is the ABBA but I'm sure that may be subject to change over time.

Cafe Hey is the restaurant version of Pretty in Pink. It is my Andie Walsh. Inside the small restaurant, located right near 275 in West Tampa, a bevy of vegan coffee, baked goods, soups, salads, vegan sandwiches and breakfast items are slung together with ease. The restaurant walls are made of exposed brick that is worn and faded from years of sun exposure. These walls are covered with local art, music posters, murals and signs celebrating the regional foods that supply the business. Cafe Hey's bathroom is one of the quirkiest that I've come across in the Tampa area. I love that the kitchen, at least the part that I could see from my seat, had writing on the wall. I'm not sure what it said but I imagined some sort of mad scientist chef in the kitchen at night jotting his recipes there in finely printed ink so that the daytime employees could easily find them. All of these factors work together to make Cafe Hey the kind of charming little place that is easy to fall in love with. The only problem is, the Andie Walsh effect. It is located on the wrong side of the tracks. Instead of being surrounded by the fabulous parks and museums of downtown Tampa, Cafe Hey is a short walk (or long one if it is cold and windy) away in Tampa Heights. It is in a part of town that scares the bejesus out of some people. Thankfully the restaurant hours help these people out as it closes well before the sun goes down. On our first visit to Cafe Hey my wife, daughter and I set up shop right by the huge window that looks out on the street. It was chilly so both J-Fur and I ordered some hot drinks. I went with a specialty coffee (I can't remember which one) with almond milk while she slammed the hot chocolate. Not being a huge coffee fan, I had hoped that whatever I ordered didn't taste much like coffee. Unfortunately, it did. It warmed me well enough but it wasn't as tasty as a bunch of sugar and almond milk would've been. J-Fur was pretty giddy over her hot chocolate. J-Fur and I ordered sandwiches for the two of us, I went with the VLT and she ordered the Hummus and Veggies sandwich. For the little one, who was on a bit of an oatmeal binge at the time, we purchased a huge bowl of oatmeal with maple syrup. J-Fur's sandwich came out first. It was covered with hummus, pressed and included shredded carrots, cucumber, tomato and lettuce. The carrots and cucumbers were fresh and crisp. They paired nicely with the hummus and pressed Cuban bread. I wasn't a big fan of the hummus, felt like it didn't have much taste, but J-Fur was pleased with the outcome. Our daughter also seemed delighted by it though you could put hummus on a boot and she would probably enjoy the taste. That is how much of a hummus fiend she is. Cafe Hey's VLT features Light Life bacon, lettuce, cabbage, tomato and Veganaise. It is served on Cuban bread from La Segunda Central Bakery in Ybor. I wasn't expecting the sandwich to be amazing, I've done VLTs at home a number of times and have never reached anything more than pretty good status. But it only took me one bite of Cafe Hey's version to realize that it was leaps and bounds better than any I had made at home. The pressed Cuban bread was nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Veganaise just sort of melted into the bread making it impossible to tell one from the other. The lettuce, bacon, cabbage and tomato injected a speed metal jolt of juicy, salty, crispy and chewy into each bite. The sum of all those tastes? A sandwich that on the surface seemed so simple, tasted absolutely divine. The oatmeal was....well, oatmeal. There was nothing earth shattering about it. Overall, I really enjoyed my first visit to Cafe Hey. The prices are a bit steep so it won't be a place I can frequent too often. But now that I've crossed the tracks and liked it, Cafe Hey and I will definitely see each other again.

Cafe Hey is a small hip cafe in the seedy outskirts of downtown Tampa. The cafe is decorated with a bright red door, brick walls, a bright red air duct, and strange art such as a brightly colored painting with a dismembered doll. The art is usually for sale. The cafe offers many vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. You can choose to create your own sandwich or choose from a list of sandwiches. During lunch, I like to order the sandwich and soup combo, which is around nine dollars (tax and tip included). The ingredients are fresh and plentiful, and the soup of the day is always good. I would recommend the cafe to a friend as a hip place to grab lunch.

This place is a really nice and laid back place to go. Nice soft music playing, interesting paintings and pictures on walls, and awesome food! I got the summer lovin' sandwich..it was amazing! The was a different taste..with the avocado and cream cheese and on the Cuban bread..but it was sooooo good! My girlfriend got the Cuban sandwich and said it was really good with real pork, seasoned really well, and delicious. We are definitely coming back here and would recommend it to anyone. They have vegan options!!!

This place has a lot of age to it. I don't mean age from people but age look from the condition of inside. This place is not for everyone and you have to maintain a very open mind when coming inside. The food was delicious and the prices were very well maintained. I can appreciate that. I also appreciate the pitcher of water for people less fortune who walk by and would like a free cup of water to quench their thirst. I admire that and appreciate that even more. Staff was very friendly. I would recommend this place to others.

We dropped in after shopping for ramen, crunchy pork rinds, fresh veggies, and other goodies at the nearby Oceanic market. This coffee shop and cafe is definitely not the same as all the others in the Tampa area. My almond milk latte was very tasty, complete with buddy brew coffee - one of my favorites. But then, I noticed the music... Ramones, David Bowie, Sonic Youth, and more. Hey, this is different! Then, I noticed the art work on the walls and hidden in various corners. This is not your Mom's art! It was creative and disturbing! Finally, I noticed the concert posters adorning the entrance. These are not your average bands and you definitely won't find them on MTV. Bottom line, we enjoyed it and we'll return each time we come to Oceanic. You should give it a try also, especially if you value things far from the mean.

Hey Cafe - as a vegan in Tampa was a good option. I sneaked in for a meal before getting stuck at SMF for a long festival day, and decided on the VLT. As a vegan who likes more plant based foods, I was a little underwhelmed but got what I asked for. The sandwich was good, but not amazing. For me, their bread was just too much. I'm sure this is a great vegan sandwich for many people & I'm not knocking it, rather I just think I was in the mood for green things! I also had a latte with soy milk, which was amazing. The ambiance was great for me: cozy, quaint, a little offbeat and full of art. I couldn't have been happier sitting anywhere else that day. They also have a place where you can leave a book & take a book. Excellent concept!

I love the VLT sandwiches on their menu, all the vegetarian / vegan sandwiches are great. I work nearby near Ybor City and when I'm feeling like a sandwich I find myself going to Cafe Hey. Their hours are random (open until 3-4pm on Weekdays except Thursday), Thursday is their open-mic night and It's a very eclectic experience listening to the local music artists and poets. This is an indie cafe and It's not a normal cafe shop, It feels very 'hip' and it's a very unique cafe near the heart of Downtown Tampa / Edge of Ybor City. I like the random soups (a lot of vegan options) and kale salads. My two biggest knocks are the lack of seating (there's only a few tables and bar stools) and the limited menu options. I find myself only coming here for VLT and soups, I'm sure there are options on the menu that are great I've yet to find them though .. maybe someone can recommend something?

They know how to please with healthy food, not an easy job! I love the art in the walls, though today they have some "Chuckie-themed paintings" that are freaking me out lol By far one pf my favorite places to eat in Tampa, just wished they also had dinner but I get it: it is downtown.

I like this cafe has the unique character. The cafe display many local artists painting creation. The pieces that are display have a lot imagination. If you like it, you can acquire it to take it home. We were there late in the evening. 30 minutes before closing. But we were able to sneak in for the last half hours. By then all the dessert is gone. I got a quiche and request to heat it up. The quiche "Keesh" is nice and good. I have look at their menu and they have affordable price small dish or sandwich. Their breakfast menu is also attractive. The selections of the latte are many in the coffee and tea menu. The only thing I don't like is the location of the restaurant in the crabby neighborhood. However, the area is getting makeover such as river walk and waterworks.

So to start off im very picky with the freshness & healthiness of the food I eat. I'm a vegetarian but try to eat vegan as much as possible. I'm from California so I wasn't sure where I could eat that met my criteria so when I saw that this place had many vegan options, I opted to go here. I ordered the VLT with shredded carrots and avocado. My father ordered a piece of the pineapple upside down cake. We were greeted by a friendly upbeat girl and she quickly took our order. We waited about 8-10 minutes and then got our food. The VLT was very yummy! I was weary that they wouldn't put enough vegan bacon in it as said in other yelp reviews but i thought there was the perfect amount. It was a good sized sandwich for 8$ The pineapple upside down cake was nothing too special and it was very overpriced for the quality and quantity. It tasted very bland and it was very dense. It cost 5$ for this small piece and it wasn't very good. Overall would try this place again but just wouldn't order the pineapple upside down cake again.

Small, artsy cafe in Tampa. There's free parking along the street, which is a plus. It's a good place to catch up over lunch-- I saw a lot of business people here during their breaks. It's not really a coffeehouse to get work done due to not having many outlets or space. I ordered a latte, which was okay- nothing too special. They do offer milk alternatives like soy, as well as vegan options on their menu. I ordered their VLT with avocado, which the "bacon" wasn't too bad, but wished it came in a wrap because the hot pressed sandwich seemed messy. It was hard to eat without avocado or the spread falling out. It wasn't too appetizing so I just ate half of it. They have Cuban sandwiches, wraps, and salads. The kale salad looked good in the pictures, maybe I'll order that next time.

This was my second time here. The first time I ordered the peach waffles which was yummy! Anyways.... For this visit, I ordered the vegan Tina wrap and the bean soup. The tuna wrap was perfect! I would order it again and again! The "tuna" is made with shredded jackfruit!!!! This was the very first time I even tired jackfruit! I am impressed! 4.8/5 Bean soup was also vegan. I'll give it 3.99/5. I wish it had more than just beans or maybe the liquid could have been thicker. My sister had the vegan BLT. It was good....although more vegan bacon would have made this sandwich a BLT.... Add moreeeee vegan bacoooooooon. The vegan cinnamon roll has inspired me to make some... Even better then this one. 3/5. It wasn't soft.... Maybe not fresh?

If you do not already know, I love coffee shops. I try to check out new ones as often as possible, so Cafe Hey fell into my schedule today. I was surprised that it was so close to where I live. I walked in, and the workers were very friendly, and they reccomended me an iced cafe con leche. I ordered it and it was delicious, and the first time I have ever had that drink iced. It was a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere also. I will be returning to study and drink more coffee!

Stopped here for an early lunch while visiting this past weekend. My vegan friend suggested from her research and the four of us were all very happy with our experience. To start, the coffee was amazing. I chose the Cafe con Leche and wanted to dive into it was so good. Adorable, artsy and kind of a lo Fi casual feel to this Cafe. After much thought ( lots of great sandwich options here!) I decided on the full Cuban sandwich with the Cafe salad. Both were great. I did opt to no tomato on sandwich which they forgot and added anyhow, it tasted good so I let it go. I probably would ask for light mayo if I ordered again- not a big mayo fan I'll make exceptions for some sandwiches- this one was heavy! Overall, really liked the sandwich, the Cuban bread so fresh and amazing! Side salad was pretty standard, but again fresh and tasty. My veggie friends did the VGT and raved about ( vegan bacon) and the roasted garlic potato soup which the devoured. Great meal and a decent value. Order at the counter and they'll bring out. Bathroom is unisex and literally has no door with commode facing entry way! Edgy! Lol....so you might be advised to go beforehand! Would definitely eat here again.

This was our first time here. The cafe con leche was really good, as was the vegan BLT. Wasn't a fan of the vegan tuna wrap... But still a good experience. The ambience was nice... Oh, the staff wasn't rude or anything, but not overly nice or welcoming. We make our BLT at home now, so considering it's a bit of a drive, not sure if we'll return.

First off, I was super excited when I ran across this cute little cafe while strolling downtown. It's located on a corner lot in an area with light traffic. It's plenty of free street parking and it's a two patio sets outside of the shop. When I walked in shop was totally my style with the exposed brick wall and retro decor. The menu was diverse including vegan meals as well as gluten free options. The prices were slightly on the higher side but the food is well worth it! I had the turkey sandwich($9)which was very delicious but it didn't come with any side items. Not a single pickle, chip, fruit, nothing! The customer service wasn't great at all. I understand we all have our moments but it would have been nice to get at least one person that seemed as if they wanted to be there and actually didn't give an attitude when a question was asked. The fact the food is fairly high and the customer service sucks I doubt I'll go back!

The VLT is to die for. Have it with a freshly-brewed tea and a vegan cookie! Who doesn't need a cookie?

They have a great sandwich with cole slaw on it too I get it with turkey instead of beef!
(3)Shannon T.

(4)Aaron Z.
(5)Tanya M.

(2)Kevin-Yuki L.
The espresso was fantastic. The Cuban sandwich was a cold version and just ok. Our pastries were good.
(3)Vinny T.
(4)Evan S.
They have almond milk! For some reason, that seems to be rare at coffee shops. Excellent menu and vibe. Has not been packed, in my experience, which makes it enjoyable yet does make me wish their business was doing a little better, given the great quality.
(5)Rick H.
(2)Rachael N.
(4)Dallas H.
(5)Michala T.
(5)Rob L.

(4)Jason J.
(5)Amanda S.
Any complaint I might have about this place is immediately invalidated by their sandwiches. Seriously, eat that fucking cuban. It's a porkgasm.
(5)Alex Z.

(4)Lori B.
Great spot, off the beaten path. Good healthy food from local sources. Service was fine. Came in from out of town & needed a quiet cafe to work, eat lunch and get a coffee. Not fancy if that's what you're looking for, a funkier vibe.
(4)Robin W.

(5)J R.
Nice place to hang out with a cup of coffee. The food is excellent but a little overpriced. Staff could be a little friendlier some times too but I know they are busy!!!

(4)Blake B.
(5)Justin R.
(5)Alldaron K.
Amazing tasting food and a nice relaxed West Coast feel. Will become a repeat cusomer.
(5)Kiera B.
(4)francine M.
(5)Alex S.
Great sandwiches and very cute cafe. highly recommended
(5)Kenneth K.
(4)Loida G.
(5)Roberto T.
(5)Nick S.
(4)Ashley C.
(4)Jeff D.
Fantastic kale salad with smoked salmon, the presentation was nice and very flavorful along with a cup that was really a bowl of the vegetable soup that had a wonderful aroma with an understated flavor. The ice tea was fresh brewed with just enough sweet.
(5)Mercy G.
(5)Kane H.
We stopped by here after visiting the river walk. Our son got a breakfast burrito ( don't ask) which was good. The rest of us order three different sandwiches all were really good. We will definitely be return to try more of the menu.
(4)Alexandra P.
(3)Derek H.
I was disappointed with what they had to offer for breakfast. The neighborhood looks a little sketchy but it is right off of the highway.
(3)Arjay P.
(5)Holly R.
Great artsy vibe, healthy options but all very tasty and fresh food. Love the artwork on the walls and service is on point.
(5)Robert O.

(1)David H.
One of my favorite chill spots in Tampa. Some of the most creative and delicious sandwiches I've ever experienced. Always a yummy quiche and quinoa salad. Great vibe and awesome people!
(5)Moises H.
(5)Jessica R.
Boo.
(1)Cameron G.
(4)Constance T.
Wonderful vegan options available. Unique menu items with flare. Reasonable pricing. I love seeing them at local events as well
(5)Reana K.
(5)Danesh J.
Had a few sandwiches here and all have been great. Definitely recommend trying the Upper West Side Cuban. For drinks, the iced chai tea hits the spot on a hot day. Overall, good place to chill and get some work done with sandwiches that are pretty unique.
(4)Shawnte T.
I've dined here numerous times and not one complaint ! The food is always delicious the drinks wether coffee or tea are perfection. It's really one of the city's hidden gems.
(5)Todd B.
I gave a kind of sarcastic tip to this place in an attempt to be funny, and since I am funny, I won't delete it. However, I will supplement my tip with a good review, which it deserves. First, the good stuff. This is a non-chain coffee and tea restaurant. Kind of a hipster place. It's small on the inside, but based on the other customers, clearly a good place to go for some coffee or tea (lots of varieties) and get some work done. The menu is mostly basic, but they have a number of vegetarian options for your veggies and vegans out there. I got their Cuban sandwich, and while not the best Cuban ever, certainly tasty and very enjoyable. Excellent bread, tasty pork. Nothing that I can really say about why it wasn't the best, but you know how it is, sometimes you just enjoy something more than another. Don't let that detract from the café though - it was a really good sandwich. We were just drinking water, so I can't comment on their coffees and teas, but like I said, it was an large variety and probably worth trying. They do an open mike night that won some best of Tampa award or something, so that might be worth checking out for you poetry lovers out there. I'd definitely come back. We liked it here, and the staff was very friendly and even allowed my girlfriend to taste their kelp salad (though why she would want a taste of kelp salad is anyone's guess). My only issue is the location. It really is in a crappy part of town, near the highway overpass. It's not a safe area, but it's fine during the day. We saw a few college students and a couple of women on their own, so clearly it's safer than it looks. But again, I'm not so sure I would go walking around this neighborhood at night.
(4)April S.
An artsy joint, with lots of seating inside and out. My vegan friend and I (mostly vegan) went. I am in love! There aren't many places that offer palatable food for the vegan, let alone delicious food! PLUS they buy locally! PLUS they are courteous! I already have plans to go back. YAY!
(5)Melissa Z.
(3)James H.
(3)Joe F.
Wow, what a disappointment. The food is not bad, but not good enough to make up for the rude girl working there. We thought maybe she was rude to us because she could tell that we aren't hipsters, but she was rude to everyone. I'll never go back.
(1)Blake M.
(3)Kevin G.
(4)Chris B.
(3)Mary J.
(4)Alex D.
(4)Mechell Y.
I love this place. They have tons of sandwich and drink options. You have a laundry list of teas to choose from. You will be pleased.
(4)Kelleigh M.
(3)Melanie R.
Chill atmosphere and quality ingredients for an affordable price. Went with an Iced Cafe Con Leche (with Soy) and Cuban toast with a side of mojo pork, yumm!
(4)Jamie H.
Its Ok.
(3)Christina C.
(4)Elizabeth D.
(5)Teresa L.
(3)Brett N.
Why 3 stars? Because...wait I haven't reviewed Café Hey yet?? --- --- --- Okay, so the title doesn't convey much of a reasoning for why I'm giving out 3 stars. The real reason is for the same reason I give similar businesses 4 stars. It's a local coffee/sandwich shop, and while nothing I've had here stands out as amazing, there's just something cool about hitting up an indie biz in a shack under the interstate. And of course, the whole "we use old plate-ware and cups because it's cool" attitude is pretty amusing too. In terms of the food - I've had the Cuban, and it wasn't my favorite to be honest. They do have plenty of sammies though!

(4)Melanie M.
Their gluten free bread is my favorite. This is the first gluten free friendly sandwich place I've ever been to. And my vegan friend loves their Vegan version of the BLT the VLT. Fantastic!
(5)Matt K.
(4)Jay O.
Turkey provolone is the good stuff.
(4)Jennifer C.
This cute shanty little café is nestled quietly on the outskirts of downtown. Don't let it's "hole in the wall" deceive you, they're delicious made-to-order sandwiches have that home made feel, along with the local bread (which is the best I've had in a long time). And you can't complain that they serve beer! It's a nice little twist to your sandwich café.
(4)Dan B.
The place has a definite hipster vibe, but the servers are friendly and the food is good. I'm not normally a fan of vegan food, but I do like their vegan baked goods. This is a nice place to study and catch up your writing, grading, or other computer work.
(4)Brian C.
A jewel!
(5)Joe A.
(4)Mike S.
(3)Patty H.
(5)Meg R.
(4)Liz R.
(4)Eric K.
I'm from Portland, OR and I love this place. Most of Tampa is cookie cutter chains so it's nice to find a local spot like this with great food.
(5)Serguei V.
Adorable little place. Service was quick and friendly. Sandwiches look not too big but very filling. Cuban sandwich is the best I ever had. El Cubano is a little vinegary. Only negative thing: cashier has long beard and probably will fit better on the kitchen.
(4)David A.
Outstanding. They do everything right here. If you don't try it you're denying yourself something special.
(5)Lizzie L.
Best vegan BLT ("VLT") and they have almond milk for coffees and teas and even vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookies!
(5)Rondrea M.
The VLT is to die for. Have it with a freshly-brewed tea and a vegan cookie! Who doesn't need a cookie?
(5)Jennie W.
They have a great sandwich with cole slaw on it too I get it with turkey instead of beef!
(3)Shannon T.
(3)Jim B.
(4)Aaron Z.
(5)Tanya M.
So freaking yummy!! Im not a sandwich person at all, but this place is a true gem! I had one of the whole cuban sandwiches and a strawberry scone. Delish!! I'd come here at least once a week if i could.
(4)Scout P.
I love this place. Inventive, healthy delicious food. Great prices. Good coffee. Lots of nice places to sit and work, talk, read, hang. Staff is very friendly and helpful. So many great vegan options. Such good prices! Love it.
(5)Dallas H.
(5)Michala T.
(5)Lorin D.
(2)Kevin-Yuki L.
The espresso was fantastic. The Cuban sandwich was a cold version and just ok. Our pastries were good.
(3)Vinny T.
(4)Evan S.
They have almond milk! For some reason, that seems to be rare at coffee shops. Excellent menu and vibe. Has not been packed, in my experience, which makes it enjoyable yet does make me wish their business was doing a little better, given the great quality.
(5)Rick H.
(2)Rachael N.
(4)Rob L.

(5)Amanda S.
Any complaint I might have about this place is immediately invalidated by their sandwiches. Seriously, eat that fucking cuban. It's a porkgasm.
(5)Alex Z.
(4)Prianka N.
(4)Levi K.
Favorite downtown cafe in Tampa. Funky, different, yet totally cool to chill in the back wearing a tie, drink coffee and work. Switch to great craft beer after 5p and plow through the paperwork.
(4)Lori B.
Great spot, off the beaten path. Good healthy food from local sources. Service was fine. Came in from out of town & needed a quiet cafe to work, eat lunch and get a coffee. Not fancy if that's what you're looking for, a funkier vibe.
(4)Robin W.
(4)Jaima S.
(3)AL D.

(4)Blake B.
(5)Justin R.
(5)Alldaron K.
Amazing tasting food and a nice relaxed West Coast feel. Will become a repeat cusomer.
(5)Kiera B.
(4)S Yeng C.
(5)J R.
Nice place to hang out with a cup of coffee. The food is excellent but a little overpriced. Staff could be a little friendlier some times too but I know they are busy!!!
(5)francine M.
(5)Alex S.
Great sandwiches and very cute cafe. highly recommended
(5)Kenneth K.

(2)Katrina P.
(4)Cece C.
(3)Emily B.
(4)Joel H.

Service was outstanding. Ordered an Almond Butter banana sandwich with apricot jelly. YAS! On Cuban bread with cinnamon. Menu looks great. I'll be back.

Stumbled upon this place while in Tampa, and very happy to do so! Good atmosphere and food at a reasonable price.
