Let me start by saying that I love sushi and travel extensively. This sushi restaurant rivals the best. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food presentation in imaginative and the food itself is excellent. The sashimi is very fresh and flavorful. The rolls are varied in their ingredients and very well proportioned in regards to their balance. I highly recommend the yellow tail with jalapeños. If you happen to be in Tallahassee and looking for sushi, look no further.

Five frickin stars. It's been a long time since I had killer sushi, and I'm not gonna lie, this not only filled my belly with quality deliciousness, it restored my faith in Tallahassee a little. Our waitress was helpful, polite, and always there exactly when we needed her. I enjoyed my massive bowl of miso soup and downed my shrimp tempura roll quickly. Amazing. Then the volcano roll came out, and I squee'd a little bit. Fastest way to turn me into a 5-year old? Light my food on fire. The volcano roll was perfect. Spicy, flavorful, fresh. Yum. My boyfriend ordered the fantastic roll, and wasn't so happy. It just didn't suit his tastes, and while the waitress explained the innards of the roll more specifically when we asked, she offered kindly to take it away and get him another roll. He ordered a volcano, and we all left happy. Threw some money in the tip jar on my way out, on top of the tip we paid for the bill. These guys are so worth it.

Luckily for me and my wife, we discovered this place totally on accident. My wife's graduate school program was throwing a dinner here, and we almost didn't go because of how pregnant she was at the time. Luckily we did go, and now we go so often, that the staff jokes that they are witnessing our now 10 month old daughter grow up because we've been in there so much the past year. I can't praise the staff, the chefs, the food and the presentation enough. I mean some of the dishes they prepare are so elaborate you almost don't want to eat them.

Big fan. I always order some of their more straightforward raw dishes. Try the thinly sliced yellow tail with jalapenos or the cilantro salmon. Both simple, raw, and amazing. This place can rival just about any big city sushi joint.

It was really nice to find this place in Tallahassee and deserves a 5 star for that fact. The sushi and sashimi are excellent, and the sashimi platter in particular is presented in a very interesting way--they hide a light under the ice. I liked my seafood udon, though I was a little underwhelmed (probably because I wanted the shrimp udon instead, but I had wanted to experiment). Service is EXCELLENT. There are nice little rooms for groups that want privacy, and while I didn't use them they looked great for more intimate/private dinners.
(5)Fran P.
Beautiful presentation. Excellent sushi. Room felt a little crowded.

If you are a fan of more authentic sushi/Japanese food, you might not like this place. But I personally don't mind a bit more Americanized sushi (adding fried stuff never hurts), so I thought this place was really good. I got the Philly rolls (don't think anyone can mess that up?) and the Rock'n'roll (which was delicious). The only thing is, if I wanted food other than sushi I would probably come for lunch as there are no dinner combos...I am more used to Bento box style dinners where you get teriyaki chicken, CA rolls, tempura/gyoza, rice, etc. They just have the meat + rice. If you add anything else you're quickly looking at $20 for a plate lol. Atmosphere is okay, music is kind loud but might be fun for some sake bombs.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Sakuri. The food was good with some bursts of genius shining through. The pricing was good. The server was quick and courteous. I have big plan to go back during Happy Hour to get the 1/2 priced wine and 30% apps for a girls night or another date night. For exactly what I ordered and details of sweet shrimp check out my full review on my blog somewhatgourmet.blogspot…

Food was great... atmosphere was great..prices were not that bad...with a buy one get one free happy hour...and great food...I got a great impression of this restaurant.. I def recommend this

Only 1 word necessary to describe this place : AMAZING. Synonym: life changingly good sushi. You are missing out if you haven't tried.
(5)Whitney J.
Ate here while on a road trip. Be aware, the Staff is young and not very attentive; we were directed to the bar until a table was ready but we weren't offered any beer/wine during our wait (bar doesn't have liquor, by the way). Sushi was very fresh, fish was cut well and rolls were traditional (presentation was exceptional)!
(3)KyungAh L.
Their sushi, I would say, is pretty good out of the Japanese places here in Tallahassee. Their rolls are all good and the kitchen food isn't too bad either :) They are friendly and fast so you never have to worry they will be taking a long time!

The fact that this restaurant exists proves that Tally is not a culinary backwater. Sakura serves up sushi that is as good or better than any that I've had in bigger cities. The sushi rolls we ordered were creative, well presented and very delicious. They were not your run of the mill rolls, in fact they don't even have a California roll on their menu. The ones we did order were a nice mix of flavors and textures that showed off the sushi chef's flair for the creative.
(4)Julie L.
Really nice waiter (I think his name was John?). When I asked for a refill on my Coke towards the end of my meal, he even asked if I would like one to go. I had the Sham roll and tuna nigiri, both were pretty good. Tuna pieces were a little on the skimpy side though.
(4)Whitney N.
The sushi is great. I had the "New Cake Sushi" and I loved it. The service is iffy though. Sometimes you get a great server, sometimes you get a sassy server who disappears forever.

Stopped in to see what lunch had to offer and I was not disappointed. For $8.99 you get 2 basic rolls, soup, and salad. $10.99 gets you the same deal with 3 rolls but I wasn't that hungry. Just what I expect from an inexpensive sushi lunch, the soup was the perfect to start eating right away, the ginger dressing on the salad was right on point, and the sushi came out quickly. The spicy tuna roll was what I expected for the price and the shrimp tempura roll with avocado was the perfect balance of crispy shrimp and creamy avocado. My server was lovely and never left my glass of water empty. Quick, inexpensive, and fast. Just what one is looking for in a lunchtime sushi stop.
(4)Lady D.
My service was superb! Our waitress knew everything about the menu, how different sakes are made and the ingredients in the sauces. My miso soup was rich and flavorful - a silky texture that I've never had. The salad with ginger dressing was just OK - very mild. The appetizer was salmon over fried slivers of sweet potato with jalipinos in a sauce I can't pronounce. Amazing. We ordered from the lunch menu - three rolls. I had Boston, Alaska, and spicy tuna. All were good - but the appetizer spoiled me! The presentation was beautiful. I'll be back again!

Being on a 2+ week work trip to Tallahassee, I stumbled upon this little gem. Sakura has an extensive sushi roll menu with excellent specials. The fish was incredible fresh and delicious. Service was pleasant and helpful. What more could you ask for?
(4)King D.
The best sushi and oriental food in town. Superb service. Great prices. The GM is absolutely amazing at her job. Describes everything to a t, makes the rounds, opens early, makes you welcome... All around awesome place.
(5)Jennifer I.
Delicious! The service was wonderful, the presentation was beautiful, and the food tasted great. The prices are a little high, but I expect that from a good restaurant in Tally. The atmosphere is also very hip and somewhat romantic, and it's easy to find parking.
(5)Rumany P.
Just stopped by here for a tester. Got the tuna tar tar. The tuna was fresh, the sauce was on the bland side, and it came with pringles which was just too strange and didn't go well. The food was slow to come out as well.
(2)Sarah F.
A local favorite with interesting rolls on the menu like Peanut Avocado and tons of fried options - including Fried Oreos. As Americanized of a sushi restaurant this place is, I was surprised to find that they don't offer a brown rice option for their sushi rolls. When I asked for the rolls to have very little rice, I was also given a really strange look. The place is pretty dark decor wise inside and feels a little like you're in a basement - maybe because there aren't any windows. The sushi quality wasn't bad, but I prefer a more traditional Japanese style sushi selection.

Literally the best Asian cuisine in Tallahassee. I'm not even sure where to start. I have sampled every type of sushi that Sakura has to offer and I am continuously impressed with the quality of the rolls. The fish is so fresh that you'd think Sakura was ocean side. While I will never get tired of the their classic rolls like the crazy tuna, I am excited to visit Sakura as often as possible to try out their new monthly rolls each month. While the quality and freshness of the food is great it is matched by equally good presentation. Sakura has the most aesthetically pleasing rolls I've ever come across. Their Volcano roll is literally served ON FIRE and the Lovey Dovey roll is heart shaped - perfect for date night. Finally, the service is unmatched by any restaurant in Tallahassee. Often times I find that restaurants in Tallahassee are serviced by college students who just obviously don't want to be at work. The servers at Sakura are more than pleasant; they really make you feel welcome, and as a tip if your server is Alexa, ask to hear a good joke, you won't be disappointed. If the restaurant is packed you won't get your food immediately but you'll get it faster than you'd expect. However, I am always pleased that the servers are constantly attending to patrons and are really good about letting patrons know about how long the wait on their food will be. Overall, I would say that Sakura is always a pleasant experience; I will be coming back for years to come.

Great service and some amazing presentations, the fish taste fresh and I will return.

We got a vegetable combo that had 3 kinds of rolls: avocado+asparagus+cucumber. It also comes with miso soup and a salad - since we were sharing it, out waitress asked if we wanted two soups instead. A minor detail that a server should figure out on their own (as she did immediately). She was also able to verify that the miso soup is vegetarian, without hesitation. We also ordered inari and oshinko maki (a nice treat since most places don't have oshinko). Everything was very good, the temperature of the rice was just how I like it (a picky detail that I appreciate when it's right), the presentation of the food was clean, the server was super nice (almost overboard but that's okay), and the general atmosphere was good for a date or a special(ish) meal. I recommend checking it out - vegetarian approved. :)

First time here. Had the summer roll and spicy yellowtail roll for dinner with pan seared dumplings for an appetizer. Rolls were great. Perfectly done, nice presentation, fresh. My son had the chicken Katsu dinner. They serve it with a salad and a bowl of white rice. He devoured it all! That made me happy. We sat at the sushi bar and he was mesmerized watching the chefs make the rolls. I did not give 5 stars because the dumplings were cold, as though they sat out for a while before they were brought to me. Also the service was bad. I actually watched my sushi sit on the bar for a good six minutes before she picked it up and handed it to me. Not cool.

I feel like Sakura has gone downhill since about the beginning of the year. The fish often tastes strange, we've had plates brought to us with no decoration or presented differently than we're used to, the service has been slow regardless of what time of day we go. Really a shame because I used to love this place. New picks: Japanica for udon. Miyako for anything fried (tempura, katsu, dumplings). Can't think of any place in Tallahassee that I would recommend for sushi anymore.
(2)D L.
Very good sushi!! Rolls are pretty small though (real thin six pieces) and quite pricey. Regardless, great place to go if you're craving sushi.
(4)Junaid C.
This place was meh. Sushi could use some work. It was still serviceable. Wish service was a little bit better too.
(3)Natascha P.
I absolutely love this place, and I'm convinced it has the best sushi in all of Tallahassee. One of my neighbors is a server here, and he told me that the secret to the sushi is their rice. It's imported straight from Japan! They actually spend more money on getting their sushi rice perfect than it costs for them to get great sushi-grade fish. I just got back from Sakura with my boyfriend and we ordered the pork dumplings, four sushi rolls and fried ice cream and it was about $45.00. Pretty reasonable, I think. I will definitely be back again. Note: My absolute favorite thing on the sushi menu is the "New Sushi Cake"-- An assortment of tuna, avocado, and spicy mayo (which I don't normally like)... Give it a try! I literally JUST got home and I wish we would have ordered another. Try some ponzu sauce too- its a citrus soy sauce that's mouthwatering, and use it instead of the soy. You'll be glad you did!!!!

Me and my fiancé usually come to Sakura for the great lunch special at least once a week. We have recently celebrated my fiancés brothers Birth Day at Sakura and had such a great time, that we have returned last Saturday for another Birthday celebration. Amazing sushi, great service and welcoming atmosphere are the reasons I would recommend Sakura for any occasion!
(5)Richard C.
This place is for real - I travel the country and internationally and was extremely pleased with the whole setup. If you love sushi - pony up to the sushi bar and they will help you decide - this is incredibly helpful when you have experts making recommendations. The sushi is very creative with lots of options and appetizers as well. The food is always good here and it's always a warm crowd with friendly staff to help navigate a sophisticated menu. It's all excellent !
(5)Cathy C.
This place is awesome!!! The quality of the fish was superb. I travel all over the country for work, so I have my favorite sushi places across the country. I'd have to say this place makes the list, in the top three. The tuna and yellowtail practically melted in my mouth. The Mt Fuji roll was delicious, also... Highly recommended!!!!
(5)Charmaine J.
First time we were not seated and we arrived at 10:41. If you don't serve until 11:00 don't advertise that you do. We have been eating here for two years now because we know we could be served until 11:00. Very disappointed.
(1)Adam D.
Reasonably priced ($16.10 after tax) "sushi sashimi lunch" special that was of high quality. Salmon, Tilapia, and Tuna nigiri and sashimi with salad and miso. Nearly too much food for one person! Would ride again!
(5)Peggy L.
Really Really good sushi. I was so surprised at first bite, but pleasantly so. Volcano roll is my favorite (and what I use to rate places), and it's really cool how they light it up in front of you. They also add a few different rolls that change every month; I don't know any other place that does this. I can't really explain how good their sushi is. It's one of the top best in Tallahassee. Too bad the first time I tried it was on my graduation day.

I decided to give this place a few extra tries before going online to review since my first experience there was absolutely incredible, but since then each visit has missed the mark. My first visit was during their opening week, which you would think would be rough going, but everything clicked for them. Great ambiance, incredible presentation of sushi (which is all I have eaten here), fresh fish, creative rolls, and pretty good lunch deals. But since then things have gone down hill. So here are my reviews and comments. Atmosphere: four stars. Good design, bonus for the private rooms for larger groups, nice sushi and drink bars. Food: two stars. With rolls they tend to use minced/shaved pieces of fish, which do not do the seafood justice. I ordered the yellow tail roll and it tastes like sour mush --- definitely not what I had hoped for. The presentation is great but out of the seven other avid sushi diners I was with four of them left pieces of shashimi and sushi on their plates because, "ehh. it was okay." For your money: three stars. They have some really good deals, especially for lunch, and a range of items to order that will keep non-seafood lovers happy. You get soup and salad with your lunch deals and those ordering box lunches will get rice, dumplings, and a California roll thrown in with their main dish (i.e. chicken teriyaki or shrimp tempura). Service: one star. Again, the first time there I had wonderful service but the past few times have been a miss. Empty drinks, slow, inattentive service, and an apparent lack of overall customer service from server to manager is a big reason why they are getting two stars overall. In my last visit the justification on why I and my compatriots never got even one drink refill was because "I just saw so many of ya." When we complained to the manager she gave a quick, sorry, and immediately asked us how everything else was --- brushing off our concern.

Finally found the perfect sushi place in Tally after crossing Masa, Circa, and Jasmine off of my list. Enter Sakura. I have finally found a place where I love the food, feel welcomed by the service, and can easily park my car. The restaurant is sweetly decorated inside - traditional with a slightly modern twist. PS: Be sure to try the delicious and HUGE shrimp dumpling (shumai) soup!
(5)Will V.
Very good food for the area. No theatrics, just solid food. Our server (Alex) was helpful and fun. The "crazy tuna" was awesome and the Pearl saki hit the spot. Hibachi steak and shrimp was good for not being prepared table-side.
(4)Enrique V.
I went to sakura for a friends birthday. For some reason i had the impression that the restaurant was hibachi style, kind of like mori's. I didnt see any hibachi tables anywhere, but the overall decor was pretty nice. Im not real big on sushi, but i will have some here and there. I ordered the steak hibachi and some tuna nigiri. The hibachi came with a miso soup ( delicious), and a salad. The steak hibachi was just ok. I have had better hibachi dinners at almost every other restaurant of this type. The tuna nigiri was very good and tasted very fresh. My girlfriend started with some miso type of soup with shrimp dumplings. This soup was the best dish of the night. Then she ordered some kind of tuna rolls, which were also very good and very fresh. Overall the sushi was great but not much better than any other place in town. The reason for only 3 stars is, the price and the service. We had to flag our waitress down a couple of times. Once for some wine refills and another for some napkins which we had to ask for twice. Our bill was $85 dollars. 100 + with tip. Mind you, we didn't have any other appetizers other than the soup my girlfriend ordered. We had a couple of glasses of wine and a couple of beers along with few saki shots. We didn't have any desert. I feel like this is way too expensive. Especially when the previous week we had dinner at jasmine and ordered mostly the same stuff, except the saki, and our bill was 35 dollars. If i want to eat sushi and not break the bank, jasmine is the place for me.
(3)Andrew J.
This is one of Tallahassee's better options for sushi. The restaurant serves a large variety of rolls, and ingredients (including fish) are fresh. 'Presentation' gets a lot of attention here; you can expect to see your food served to you with style. Not only is the food worth trying, but the servers are usually very professional and deserving of the tip you'll leave behind.
(4)Lea G.
My friends and I went to dinner here during our business meetings in Tallahassee. Now living in the bay area and traveling to Japan, I do have high standards for sushi. I was very happy with the menu items and was not disappointed at all. We shared these rolls: Tallahassee, Summer, Rock & Roll and the Spicy Seafood. We all loved it. The sushi was fresh and the rolls creative. Customer service was excellent and the atmosphere nice. They had little booth areas and open dining. I would definitely come back to Sakura's if I am in the area again.
(4)Jeremy L.
The service was terrible. We had to flag down the server just to get refills. The food was not much better. The only items that were good were the scallops and fried rice. We couldn't stomach all of the sushi either. I've had a lot better sushi than we had there. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
(1)Ashley S.
Best sushi that I've found in Tallahassee. Try the monthly special rolls. I haven't tried one yet that wasn't awesome! Best so far- the spiderman roll... Yum!!
(5)Ashley H.
Sakura is a new sushi/Japanese food restaurant in Tallahassee. I've dined there twice so far and had a nice experience both times. The rolls are good and they have a different selection than some of the other sushi places in town. Also, prices can be slightly cheaper than a few of the more high-end sushi places, depending on what you order. The service was good the first time I went and okay the second time around, probably because the place was busier the second time. The interior is very sleek and modern-looking. They serve wine, beer, and sake. For food, they serve plenty of different sushi rolls in addition to tempura, teriyaki, and hibachi dishes (although there is no visible hibachi grill, sorry!).
(4)Rob T.
Sakura is a relatively new player in what seems like a saturated sushi market in Tallahassee. Just up the street is my favorite haunt, Masa. So, it was naturally hard for me to shy away from my norm and give this place a try. Good thing I did! Sakura was great. The prices are a little better than some of the other places in town, but the quality of the food is fantastic. I have never had a bad meal here. The atmosphere is great --- small, cozy and well decorated. If you are arriving with a larger group, they have private rooms that seat 6-8 people. The only problem I have ever had was the service. It seems to be hit and miss. One time, we waited over 30 minutes to pay. This was the closest I had ever some to walking out of a place without paying. Other times, the service is just fine. If you are in the food for sushi -- -give it a try. I recommend the Volcano roll and the salmon skin roll. Both are fantastic. Their tempura is also great. I was not impressed with the hibachi --- so, try at your own risk.
(4)Michelle K.
After trying a number of sushi restaurants in Tallahasse, I've found Sakura to be the best. The food was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. They have an extensive sushi menu and a good assortment of tempura, udon and grilled dishes. The tempura appetizer was large and had delicious taro, onion, brocooli, zucchini, sweet potato and shrimp. For dessert we had the fried vanilla ice cream which was perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive and nice. The ambience is very modern and minimally trendy--it actually reminded me of a few sushi restaurants I visited in Japan. We'll definitely be going back.
(5)Larry H.
Excellent sushi, nice atmosphere. Prices are good and presentation nice. Quantity is good and tempura was also tasty. Good service after a game. Definitely a place to return for more yummy food.
(5)Whitnae P.
Good sushi, but only affordable if you go for lunch.
(4)Ashley M.
Sakura is my new favorite place for sushi. They get five stars just for the tuna dumpling which is expensive but supremely delicious! Individuals pieces are a little on small side and the regular rolls are good, but Sakura really shines with their special appetizers and rolls. The Miso soup is good, but their regular salad is nothing spectacular. I'd recommend trying the seaweed salad if you want one. They also serve tempura and other Japanese fare and the usual beer/sake/wine although I think they don't serve Ashai anymore. The service is excellent and the restaurant is really clean and sleek. A good start for a brand new restaurant! P.S. They do need to examine their current happy hour schedule...11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday is not really prime drinking time. Maybe that's the point? Seems like a slow weeknight from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. might make more sense.
(5)Franco A.
We came here for a large group dinner. The food was good and some of the sashimi presentations were pretty cool (literally as they were presented on quasi-ice-sculptures). The service for such a large group was very attentive and they had some very innovative rolls on the menu (the pancake roll was something different)
