Finally, a really great Indian restaurant in Tally! Before this Essence was the only good option. This place is great! Really excellent, authentic Indian food--the fact that at any given time, the majority of the customers are Indian should tell you all you need to know. You can tell that they use fresh veggies (unlike any other Indian place in town). Awesome, awesome, awesome!

The food here is so good. Everything we've had has been fantastic. We always prefer takeout, but we've gone in for the buffet before and it was just alright. The chicken tikka and goat curry was not as flavorful at the buffet compared to when we order takeout. The servers seem nice enough but could be friendlier.

Quite good! I think the food is a notch above the Indian restaurants in Tallahassee. Whether it shows consistency remains to be seen, but so far I recommend it.

It's always a good sign when half the clientele are Indian! I'd give it 5 stats, but they were very disorganized the day I was there. Dishes on the buffet were unlabeled and not in any logical order, leading to some yucky flavor combinations and melted homemade ice cream which I thought was a chutney! They ran out of forks and bottles water during the lunch rush. They had extra staff, but no time to train them, so they just kind of stood around smiling and fluttering their hands. The food was EXCELLENT, though. Looking forward to going back once they get over their growing pains.

I was there for a weekday buffet. Some of the items were warm as the heater was not properly switched on. The food is standard nothing extra ordinary. I still prefer Essence of India buffet. The owner said weekend buffet was very good. I will eat then and report. The place is clean and ambience good.

It's a very good Indian place. The food is not sensational but it is quality and most of the dishes are quite tasty. The service is friendly, the ambience decent. You get the feeling the owners take pride.

Really great ambiance and presentation which is rare for an Indian restaurant in Tallahassee. Food lives up to the setting and the Indo-Chinese dishes are outstanding. Authentic flavours make this our new favorite restaurant

I could kick myself. We have driven past Persis a number of times, always saying "we should go and try it." Never did. Until tonight. I've been missing the best Indian food in Tally. The restaurant is large and open, with pictures of Cricket players on the walls and soft music playing. There is a bar at one end with a large screen TV that was playing an Indian Cricket match. That created the opportunity for me to pull out the iPhone and Google "Cricket for dummies" whereupon I was not only able to learn enough Cricket to appreciate what was on TV, but also regale my family with the rules (ok...maybe regale is a bit too strong). But I can now show you the sign for a 6 run hit. But what about the food? As we were seated out came a nice bottle of water for the table followed by crispy papadum and 2 sauces (tamarind and mint). Very tasty. The menu offers a wide range of traditional vegetarian and non-vegetarian apps, entrees, breads and biryani. We started with Paneer Tikka, which was an astonishingly good dish of cubes of homemade cheese cooked in a tandoor oven and served on a sizzling platter. We also had Samosas which were some of the best we've ever had at an Indian restaurant. So far so good. But it gets better. For entrees we had Chicken Tikka Masala (chicken cooked in tandoor oven with a tomato sauce), Aloo Gobi Masala (potatoes and cauliflower in an onion sauce), and Goat Curry, all served with rice. All three dishes were large portions, and each was fantastic. But the sauce for the goat curry stole the show. It was a rich and dark sauce made from tomatoes and spices. Delicious. We also had Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha as our breads. These were just ok...we've had better elsewhere in tally. We are very much looking forward to the leftovers! The price was great, especially the 20% discount for checking in on Yelp (hint...hint). This is now our go to Indian restaurant. It will likely be yours, too.

Good variety and food is good! The lunch buffet has a good variety and I like this place better than Mayuri. The staff are friendly, polite and very accommodating.

You know an Indian restaurant is legit when 95% of the patrons are Indian. I lovedd this place! Indian buffet with a wide variety of dishes: soups, vegetarian, chicken, goat. All the dishes were tasty and I even tried a few new ones. Staff was attentive and constantly circling the dining room to remove empty plates and check on guests. Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was due to the price. Mon-Thurs the lunch buffet is $8.99 but on Friday it's $12.50, and according to my hubby, there's nothing additional on the Friday buffet.

Went for the lunch buffet with another Yelper. The buffet was really fantastic with a wide selection of items to choose from, and not just the typical "low budget" fare you find at many buffets. For instance, I was shocked to see goat biryani on the buffet. I rarely see goat on a buffet as there are other, less expensive proteins for a restaurant to offer. Service was prompt and very kind, and the restaurant was tidy and clean looking. The price was really great for a lunch buffet. I can't wait to come back and bring my family.

Signature dish - Dum Biryani Delicious food is a small but powerful way of humans experiencing happiness. What started as a delicacy in the royal kitchens of the Nizam of Hyderabad and would be served as the centerpiece of wedding feasts has now enthralled the Indian population of all strata for centuries. We have seen a billion people derive great satisfaction from a plate of authentic, flavorful royal cuisine (biryani) and wanted America to experience this pleasure as our signature dish.

During the week, this generally caters to nearby office workers - Indian and non-Indian alike. On the weekend, we've found the clientele almost exclusively Indian. We chalk that up as a good sign. The buffet features a balance between vegetarian and omnivore fare alike. I've noticed the soup options are unconventional at times. for example, you might come across a sweet corn chowder every now and then. Perhaps I'm not as well versed in the South Asian maize scene as I should be - I just thought this was more of a Mesoamerican crop. Things to keep in mind: 1. Ice. If you need it, you'll have to ask for it. Otherwise, you're getting a chilled & gasketed swingtop bottle of water without the ice. 2. In the event you're seeking unsweetened tea, you'll need to specify "iced" - otherwise, you're getting a hot cup of tea. 3. Refills are available (surely) upon request. don't count on it without asking for it. Persis, as with the other Indian places in town, is very good at helping you understand your way around the dishes. Last time, for example, I asked one of the guys to help me understand the various chutneys. What they do, effectively, is use them strictly as naan mops. Anyway - if you're in the area, go check out Persis. Pretty good.

Awesome food. heard a lot about their food. Today we went to buffet. They have large variety of dishes. We loved chicken biryani and dosa. Biyani reminded me of authentic hyderabadi biryani taste back home in india. It's worth 1 hour drive we took from thomasville. Will go again.

I've had the lunch buffet at least 5 times here, but haven't ordered off the menu yet. What always strikes me is that Persis seems to offer items that I haven't seen at any of the other Indian restaurants in town. Yes, they have the traditional chicken tikka masala, naan, biryani and lentils dishes. But every time I go I also find usual items such as fried okra, goat curry, and Chinese-influenced noodles and other dishes. Sometimes I have no idea what I'm eating, but it's always delicious! The buffet also features cold salads, condiments and dessert items. It's the most diverse and satisfying Indian buffet in town.

Persis is my jam! I love their Gobie 65 and their lunch buffet is rockin'. I have been there a couple of times now and everything I have had was great. One of the best Indian food restaurants in town. The only downside is they do not have naan on the buffet (at least when I went anyway).
(5)Debashri S.
Not sure what to make of the negative comments. I don't have an issue with spice levels, and when I asked for 'medium' spiced, I got 'medium' spiced. The food was delicious! Not the usual mush that most Indian restaurants serve. The biryani rice was high quality and cooked till fluffy. The hot and sour soup was awesome as well. Contrary to what one gentleman has written in his reciew, Indian and Chinese do go together very well - there's an entire cuisine built around it in India! The serving dishes looked very nice as well. The place was clean and the folks very courteous. We loved it!

Alright so after first disaster I tried this place again as some friends insisted and I had totally different experience. Ordered dum briyani and Persis gosh sukha and it was amazing. Hands down best briyani in town

First, the ambiance is nice. Dark lacquered tables and chairs, very well painted concrete floors. I had to get my weekly fix of Indian food and did not want to go to favorite hangout. I read they had a lunch buffet so here I am. The plates and all silverware was in one location. A soup on one side and the buffet on the other. They had vegetable rice briani, white rice, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, a very good fried eggplant in a thick orange batter (sorry - don't know the names for many of these dishes and my Indian friends were to here to tell me.) The chicken tikka masala was good but not bursting with flavor (or heat- which is good). There was a cauliflower pea dish that was very good. The porri (fried bread) was good. My favorite dish had motter (cheese like curds), veggies and was wonderfully flavored! All in all, this was a good first experience. One suggestion would be to have the silverware wrapped in the napkins and placed on the tables. Take way what is not needed as people are seated. I'll be back!

We were pretty devastated when our favorite Indian lunch spot closed, and were excited to try something new. We have gone back several times since our first visit. Their food is unique and you always have a nice array of different foods to try. Many we had never heard of before :)

Maybe it was a bad night - Friday night the 17th at 7pm - but I will never eat there again. The food was horrible as was the service. First tip off should have been that it looked like it was closed and the open sign was not lite. The interior was not nice and the ever changing light from the disco ball was not attractive - they were having a dance there at 9 and I guess the disco ball needed to be warmed up for 2 hours. When we eat at Sumrats (my favorite), we always got delicious crisp bread and condiments while waiting for our meal - not here. Only thing on the table was yucky crusty salt and pepper shakers. My husband asked what was their spiciest chicken dish and was told this one (waiter pointed to one on the menu) so he ordered it. I ordered vegetable Kurma. We both told waiter we loved spicy foods but didn't want native Indian hot. Our food arrived but we had no plates, no silverware, and no rice. We sat there while he talked to the people at the next table then went and talked to all the other employees/owners(?) standing behind bar. Finally, he went and brought the rice - plain white rice not the delicious rice served at other Indian restaurants. I reminded him of the plates and silverware and he went and got them. My husband's dish was full of bones and it was NOT chicken but the flavor of the sauce was good. Mine was HORRIBLE - no favor at all!! Our bread was not what we order either and was not good. When the waiter asked how our food was, we asked what my husband's dish was and it was GOAT! My husband told him that he had ordered chicken! I told him mine was not good and had no flavor. He said next time we came back to tell them we like more flavorful food. No offer to correct anything. Sorry - there won't be a next time.

We went there for Buffet. It's their Grand Opening. It's new restaurant in Tallahassee. Nice Ambiance and Food is also Good. It's totally crowded may be because it is new in town or it's grand opening day. Will return again for dinner some time soon.

This place is really good. Went there for the lunch buffet. The chicken tikka, rice, channa masala, and other sides were the best I have had at an Indian lunch buffet. My wife is Indian, and she agreed. This place is definitely worth a visit.

We had heard about biryani as a speciality and I love it so we did our first visit to eat just biryani. The rice were very very spicy, even they called it mild:(. But they were nice and besides being too spicy we enjoyed it because this looked authentic Pakistani style. We tried lunch buffet too but we didn't like very much the food. I always want to go for biryani there but when I think about is spices, I step back. One of a family ordered biryani for home on joint dinner, and asked them to keep it very mild but I guess they don't know how to keep up the spice flavors. my kids always come back hungry:(, can't stand so hot n spicy.

I've never been to India, so I don't know how it compares to "actual" Indian food... But I thought the environment and food was excellent. I've tried a few of the others around town and this was by far my favorite. Don't be put off by the fact that is in in a strip mall, the inside is very nice! We will definitely be going again.
