First time on a busy Saturday night. Had chicken parm and lasagna thinking that there's were two safe dishes. They were excellent. The waitress Jessica was top notch and on top of the menu and service. There was some type of privateer event going on in the next room and it sounded like they also were having a good time. The chef wondered through the pace checking on customer satisfaction, The only thing that could may have been better was the bread. My wife loved the soft crust I enjoy a cluster bread. Next time we will explore the menu more.

Terrible. I was there on labor day 2015. This used to be one of my favorite Tallahassee landmarks. Mom and dad ran a great local place. They said the new group that bought it had mom and dad's recipes but they must not be able to follow a recipe. Heating up a Stouffer's would have ranked way higher than the lasagna I was served. So sad to see this place go and the audacity of the new group to charge for that lasagna. The manager and blonde hostess spent more attending to each other than the customers. To end on a good note, our waitress was a delightful FSU student.

This was our first time since the new owners had taken over. The restaurant had been updated some but still had the same "feel" to it. The lasagna is probably the best -hands down- in Tallahassee. My husband ordered the Veal Marsala, which he said was excellent. The bread & salads were also very good. I will definitely be back!

it has been awhile since I've been here but I wanted to try it under the NEW ownership. The lighting was much improved - that was about all I could say from there. The rest of the experience declined like a sand castle when the hurricane comes ashore .... It is the place 2 go 4 a dining experience, meaning if your highlight of your evening is the company you are keeping. If you want to talk and get to know your date ....or to work a LONG business deal - this is the place to be. It took nearly 90 minutes, without a desert. Now for the food ...... the chicken marsellas(SP) .. i couldn't tell what it was. the chicken breasts were very tender .... had a brown gravy over them and the meat was covered with onions??? it had NO seasoning ......NONE. the pasta and marinera sauce ....yiiich you know its bad when the chain restaurants are far SUPERIOR to the local italian restaurant ...... thats not the end of it. they have an "early Bird Special". If you come between 5 - 6 you get 20% off your entree. when i asked my server about it - she informed me, "Oh yeah, you do get an early bird discount" this was after i had examined the receipt and was getting ready to pay for it .......BUT I found the discount missing, bottom line: IF you don't detect it or catch, they will not apply the discounts .... try it if you must ......I won't again,,,, even if there was a family reunion and everyone ate FREE & Kate Upton was waiting on my table

This was our first dining experience in Tallahasee. It was amazing. I had egg plant parmesan & it was the best I have ever eaten! My husband loved the lasagna too! Our waiter was friendly & knowledgable. He came around appropriately & made sure we had what we needed. It is a family owned business & I love supporting them. Also my parm was hand there & not frozen. We loved the entire experience!

This is better then the old Mom & Dads. Pizza was a hidden gem. Thin and crispy crust, delicious. We had this as an appetizer. The bread is amazing, raw or toasted. I ordered the spaghetti A-La-Bruzzi. My all time favorite is even better. I had a bite of my friends grouper piccata, was just as great. What a great dining experience and one I highly recommend. This is a must go to restraint.

Huge disappointment. Not only was the service bad, but the food took well over 45 minutes to arrive and then it was cold. I would have walked but my brother, bless his heart, knows eggplant is my favorite and wanted to treat me to a special birthday dinner. Won't be visiting this place anytime soon.

Heard a lot about the place and that the new owners stepped in to keep an institution going. Went on Valentine's Day for dinner. We didn't have reservations but after a short wait they sat our party of four. Overall experience was good. Server was polite efficient and not intrusive. We were served a complimentary glass of champagne and at the end of the meal the ladies at the table were given a long stem rose and everyone received a large (enormous actually ) chocolate covered strawberry. We all felt welcomed and appreciated. So why only the three stars? The food. I was disappointed in the quality of the food. I went with the safe chicken parm and a side of pasta (which I asked for with just garlic and olive oil). The chicken was thick and tough and the sauce was very watery. My side pasta was fine but a little dry. My wife had the gnocchi with marinara and Italian sausage. The gnocchi was fine but there was a huge portion in a small bowl with a mass of sauce on top. Not very well presented and the sauce was what you would expect at a pizzeria to go place. My daughters pizza was a basic cheese and it was fine and her friend had the fettuccine Alfredo which was a bit cold when served and had started to congeal. Our salads were average and make sure you get it with the dressing on the side as mine was drenched. Maybe it was the busy Valentine's Day crowd that effected the kitchen. So much to like about the place but in the end the food has to get better and I really hope it does.

I sat outside and had a wonderful, leisurely conversation. There was a nice little fountain in the background. Our server was great, too. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. And that's really the most important thing about a restaurant: the food. I assumed from their name that the food would be unpretentious home cooking. But I didn't expect it to be lousy. It reminded me of my own mom's cooking. When she makes Italian food she uses Ragu and sprinkles fake Parmesan powder on top. That's basically what they do here. Sorry to give only one star. If their prices were lower, I'd give them two.

A treat to visit Mom and Dads. A smaller family owned restaurant with a diverse menu. We had a party of four on a Friday evening (6:30) and waited about 30 minutes for a table. My food was fabulous. The best Chicken Parmesan is quite unique; the chicken swims in a sweet, light tomato sauce and baked in an aluminum dish draped generously in mozzarella cheese. The portions were generous, as I left with a full belly. The service was great, and I look forward to my next visit!

It has been there forever, and serves as an early indication of approaching civilization on the long drive up US 27 to Tallahassee from peninsular Florida. Excellent basic Italian dishes with signature sauces. Prices are very reasonable and some pasta items are hand made.....notable are the meat balls, ravioli, manicotti and cheese bread. Decor is stereotype Italian, complete with checked table cloths and wall art. Worth the drive occasionally or a tasty welcome stop coming into town.

Since I live less than a mile from Mom and Dad's you'd think I'd eat there all the time, but the restaurant had grown shabby and outdated - the decor was a fair representation of the food and service. Tonight the take out option was too convenient to ignore so I ordered for the first time since the change in management. Hubby picked up the food and was blown away by how much better the restaurant looked. Somebody must have sold the recipes because the lasagna was the same, only much, much better. Fresh baked instead of tasting reheated, the sauce and obviously fresh made noodles were much more in proportion. The bread is still not toasted and plain, but it was fresh. The salad wins most improved. They used to ask me what kind of dressing I wanted and my answer was, "Please, no salad." Basically wilted lettuce with a couple of sad tomato wedges. It was one step up from nasty. The salad I got tonight was fresh with black olives, green romaine, carrots, cucumber, and a tasty pepperoncini. Only bad point was the dressing is still the same. It tasted mostly like garlic and oil. Next time I'll try the Caesar. The prices have gone up, I'm assuming to pay for the new look, but the portions are so big that my lasagna easily made two meals and that was worth the $16 price tag. So if you're in town and it's been awhile, it might be time to try it again! One other point: if you're going to put that much into building a new look and renovating, why do you have such a crappy website?

my Chicken Marsala had NO sign of Marsala in it. Sadly The chicken was sitting in entirely too much watery tasteless brown liquid. I sent it back and dined on their yummy bread. Most of My fellow diners took their dinner home to feed their dogs. Really. Even though they gave us discount coupons for our next visit, I won't be coming back. And the Owner never asked why Sad

The Lasagna. Unlike anything I have ever experienced! Staff was great as well!

The most delicious Italian food ever. Mama is constantly walking around the restaurant checking on everyone, and the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. The menu hasn't changed much since I've been going there (in fact, Mom and Dad's was the last meal my mother ate before I was born), but for good reason - it's amazing, comfortable italian food that is priced well and always lives up to itself. Definitely eat here - you won't regret it.

I ended up trying this place for graduation dinner since it got good reviews and a friend suggested it to me, and I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe it was just my experience seeing all the good reviews, but I ordered the grouper piccata and it was just OK. My husband's meal was bad. The electricity also was down and got really hot in there fast. Service was fine. For the money, I wouldn't go back.

So I went to this establishment because I had read several good reviews here on Yelp and it is only a five minute drive away from where I am staying. I was very excited to come to a place that has survived so long in Tally and apparently has a good reputation. However, I was disappointed. Everything here is average. The salad is just lettuce and a couple tomatoes. No other types of greens, no carrots, its pretty unexciting. Also they serve a bread before the meal that again was just average. It seemed homemade which is a plus, but it was just plain white bread and butter. No special grains or herbs. Finally I ordered the chicken parmesan. Excited to try one of my favorite dishes that I order frequently. It was not what I expected at all. The chicken was shredded and drowned in cheese. Yes, I know its chicken pamesan, but the cheese overwhelmed the chicken. The shredded chicken was dry and of low quality to what I expected to be a breast. The side of spaghetti was better than the chicken, but even the sauce was a bit bland. Expected better from the reviews on here, they did have really friendly staff, but it was nothing special.

I really wanted to love Mom and Dad's Italian Restaurant, but unfortunately I was left feeling like Mom and Dad sold their home style recipes in place of cheap imitations that they are trying to serve at the family table. I ordered the Pomodoro al la Mama to start. I am Italian and I love my garlic, but wow, holy one note! The dish was so garlic-forward that any semblance of tomato, herb, and olive oil flavor was crushed long before it had a chance to hit my taste buds. Almost unedible, until I scraped the loads of raw garlic off off the ripe grape tomatoes. I would have loved to see and taste more fresh herbs to balance this dish. Next, I had the lasagne (which was recommended by the host). Oops. Should lasagne be grey? Noodles weren't firm, ricotta was not obviously present, and the sauce was a bit sweet for my taste. It was more like a casserole than a layered lasagne. The ground meat in the dish made the flavor very reminiscent of one of my grade school favorites- American Chop Suey. If you grew up in New England, you will know what I am talking about. A great flavor if I'm in second grade and it is lunch period. Not a great taste if I am eating at an adult dinner restaurant. The meatballs I ordered were derived from meat that had been ground so finely and packed so tightly that it lost any resemblance of its four legged origins. Is it me or shouldn't meatballs have texture, airiness, and bits of ingredients visibly present, versus a homogenous, dense ball of protein. The side salad was ok, nothing special. The house dressing was very good- tangy and light. Sorry Mom and Dad- I want to emancipate myself from this family.

Quite possibly the worst Italian I have ever had in my life. I visited Mom and Dad's about 8 years ago and remember it being decent. Nothing at our table this go around had any flavor...at all. The chicken, sauce and cheese were all tasteless! The chicken Marsala was unseasoned chicken breast with a brown liquid on top and grilled onions. I will gladly send you salt, pepper, oregano and basil if you promise to use them. Also, if you're going to charge $18 a plate, you probably shouldn't have your servers writing their names on paper table cloths. Diners beware!

Every now and then, a combination of events conspires to dampen the spirits of those desiring a great experience. Thankfully, the management worked hard to restore faith in our party. Online reservations made from the restaurant's website for a Wednesday at 630 were not at the restaurant. Evidently, the servers were down and no reservation was to be found. After some adjustments to expectations, we were seated at a table. We ordered wine and an appetizer. We got waters and bread. We asked for oil to go with the bread. We eventually got wine about 15 minutes later. We got the oil after that. The appetizer of fried artichoke arts was tasty and comped based on the lost reservation. Our entree orders were accepted only to find out that the kitchen was out of shrimp. We adjusted to Diana Steak which was delicious. The gnocchi was delicious. The veal Marsala was cold - and comped. The chicken parm was delicious, the spaghetti and meatball was tasty. It was a birthday dinner for five (including a child). We could have stayed for a free birthday treat, ordered tiramisu which we would have done or had an espresso. But after a 2 hour meal - yes 2 hours (albeit with family and relaxed) we did not watch other tables get served faster and better than our experience - we paid our bill and left....next time will be better perhaps. We made sure to tip for comped dishes. The staff were polite and helpful. The new interior design lightens the mood and is a great improvement over the older restaurant style.

I grew up celebrating family events at Mom and Dads. I no longer live in the area but I had the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous dinner at Mom and Dads. Everything was excellent. Service was good. Our table had pepperoni pizza which had the perfect amount of cheese and it was quality cheese. We had spaghetti with meatballs. The meatballs were perfect. We also had an order of Spaghetti with Italian sausage and spaghetti alla bruzzi. This was topped off with a cannoli. We were all very pleased. Excellent food, service and reasonably priced.

While it's located waaaay out on Apalachee Parkway, Mom and Dad's is one of those Tallahassee establishments that if you haven't gotten a chance to try, you're depriving yourself. Granted I don't think the decor has changed one bit in the last 20 years (my family has easily been going there that long) but it has a quaint, odd homely feeling to it. Best things to get? Hands down the lasagna, which I think is the best in town. Other typical Italian fare is available - and it's good - but I keep coming back to the heaping portions of lasagna. So hop in your car and drive out to the sticks and give it a shot. They take reservations but only for large groups. Open at 5p each night.

New chef, new management, great food. I'm glad to see that the flavor is back in the food lasagna is excellent, the chicken piccata is excellent. Definitely will go back again. I love it when a restaurant can make a turn around and become successful.

I have to say, if you want authentic sauces,.. and an Italian home booked meal, this is the place. I don't care how many times you come here, or how often, this little Tallahassee gem has been a part of our family's lives for 40 years. I'm serious when I say, it's like going home. The cheese bread, the signature salad, all perfect compliments to pizzas, baked spaghetti and lasagne, and my favorite, manicotti. For years I've been trying to re-create that dish!

This definitely does have the feel of the sort of place I'm sure my folks liked back in the day! As mentioned by others, it is quite a ways out on Apalachee, but the drive is worth it. Ample parking, but keep an eye out--the sign is set back a bit and easy to overshoot. The interior is what you'd expect from the name--dark walls, Sinatra playing in the background, paintings of Italian landscapes on the walls. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. Tasty, although most of the crab stuffing had escaped into the dish. The entire dish was shrouded in wonderfully melted cheese. For entrees, I had the sliced veal parmigiana, and my partner had the chicken. The veal was wonderfully tender, and we both loved the sauce--their standard red sauce, I'm thinking. The entree was large, and accompanied by a dish of pasta with sauce. I ordered the tiramisu and my partner the cannoli, but neither of us could finish them--they were quite large, but very good. The coffee got mixed reviews--I really liked it, but he didn't. Price was very reasonable. Only quibble is the bread--rather disappointing. We definitely plan to make this our regular Italian place.

This was pretty good. Portions were average side and included bread and salad. The down side was that there was no kids menu. The waitress just said that they received a smaller portion. Well, that portion was $6.99 and did not include a salad. Our kid wanted a salad so that was another $3.99. Salads were just lettuce and tomatoes so were way over priced. So by the time you added the 2 together, we should have just ordered an adult meal and had some left over to take home. Otherwise, dinner was good, just set us back in price!

I just love the old world ambiance. Its been years since I've had the pasta, but remember it being excellent. My recent experience with the pizza is amazing flavor. The crust may not be delicate enough to satisfy some serious pizza lovers. Its a bit dense, thankfully not a gummy high gluten mess. The sharpness of the flavors in the cheese is reminiscent of some of my other favorite old world places. I'll always drive out of my way to go back.

It's a little overpriced, but the pizza is just as amazingly tasty as it unhealthy, which is incredibly unheathy. Also, the regular lasagna is really good. It's definitely worth a try.

It's ok place. The softshell crabs were too oily. I don't think anyone but the owner is italian

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
