Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I received a message from the owner after my previous review letting me know that they were planning to make their slices larger...and that they did! I went back for lunch today and two slices were ALMOST too much this time. I still need to try the other menu items, but their pizza is a winner!

"Hey dad, can we go eat pizza in the garage?" That's probably something you've never said before. The Pizza Garage is a well themed pizza restaurant that brings back the sit-down style of pizzeria. This locally own restaurant has a cool look and a great open kitchen. I liked being able to peek in and see what they were doing. To order you go up to the window in the kitchen, where they ring you up. This waiter-less approach is both good and bad. Good because you don't have to worry about tipping or being bothered. Bad, because you never know what's the hold up. When I went, it took a while for our pizza to go through. I wasn't sure if that's because it's homemade or if there was some other orders in front of us. The pizza was good and I liked the presentation. This is a great family place that's pretty much hidden if you're driving down Monroe. Decent Pizza down the road seems a little more hipster/divey, but this place is definitely geared towards families and groups of friends.

No other pizza place in Tallahassee compares to the quality and affordability! It takes a little while to get the pizza, but definitely worth it. Staff are friendly, neat "buffalo themed" interior, (owner from Buffalo), and the crust is the BEST! Also offers a nice variety of good craft beer, proud to say that I'm a regular here....

Warm, friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, and my pizza sub was excellent. I'll be back to try the pizza!

I seriously do not understand the fascination with this place. I love pizza and will give credit where credit is due. Dave's pizza is bland, doughy and over-the-top cheesy. If you are a quantity over quality person, this is your pizza place. The flavor tasted similar to the frozen tombstone pizzas you can buy at the store, but for $19 you are better off buying the frozen pizza and souping it up yourself with a few fresh ingredients. Try Gaines Street Pies, Brooklyn Pizza, Midtown Pies, Decent Pizza, or even Milano's before you go to Dave's. None of them are particularly inexpensive but the quality is much better.

3.5 We have been to Dave's a few times now and had something a little different each time. Their crust is thicker and doughier. I liked it the first time I went but we had one of their take out pepperoni pizza specials that was way too doughy. It seems like it depends on who is cooking that night. For my BF who spent some time in New York CIty, it is too doughy. I loved the taste of all the ingredients and so does he and that is what keeps us coming back. That said, I can see why this doughy pizza with its more bland and thick tomato sauce is a hit in this town. Way better than a chain but not "different" enough for those who have never indulged in real new york style or been to Italy. We recently ordered a cheesesteak calzone and it was great. It was a little bit smaller than we thought and they cut it in half to fit into the togo box. I liked in a way that it was more condensed all the ingredients mixed in better and the dough was phenomenal. We both thought as we ate their pizza that their calzones would rock because of the flavor of the dough and we were correct. It satisfied two cravings, pizza and a cheesesteak and my BF proclaimed "this is dangerous". We also loved the portion of ricotta it was not an afterthought you could see and taste it. It was creamy. Not bland like other places in town. I know we will be back for this many times. I would appreciate more flavor in the tomato sauce and it be a little less thick. However every topping we have had is fresh fresh fresh and the dough flavor is good. Maybe some of the kids working there need to learn how to make a more nuanced pie, stretch the dough a little more and portion the sauce better. That might get us to order the pizza again. We will certainly give them another chance. Their calzone was exceptional and why they get the extra half star. They do not get 4 stars because they have weird hours and days they operate. We find ourselves craving them and calling to realize they are closed. I can say we would have ordered from them 5-6 times more because of this. They may be closed on Sundays for religious purposes so I don't want to be too harsh but consistency in the quality and operating hours would bump them up a star. The ingredients are fresh and we like supporting a local business. As I know it, Dave used to work at/with bagelheads? If that is true, make some whole wheat everything bagels please. We would buy those up with our pizza. Dave, I am not kidding about the bagels. You already have the ovens and the ingredients. Maybe consider them selling them on Friday nights so people can have them for the weekend? All our gameday guests miss those bagels, they were the perfect base for a day of tailgating. :)

Honestly this is my favorite pizza place in Tallahassee. I am Inlove with it here. Dave, the owner obviously, is very personable. He likes to get to know his customers. He is very kind and makes amazing food. I've been going weekly for about a year and a half now. I'm totally a regular and have loved every single thing I've tried on the menu. Daves is the place to be. :)

This was my first time here and it will not be the last! I don't even like pizza enough to continue going back to the same place more then once but this place takes the cake or the pie in this case. The price was great, we had the nubbis and the old world Margarita pizza the staff was amazing I really can't wait to go back.
(5)Susan R.
This really is as good as gets - It's good pizza in a good atmosphere and the owner personally stands behind his product and his company. I ordered from here through Go Waiter and the delivery company brought my food 40 minutes late - this had nothing to do with Dave's, they had my order ready to go, the delivery company admitted to being behind when I called. Dave of Dave's Pizza personally stated that he would take care of my order if anything was wrong with it due to the late delivery. It arrived fine and was just as delicious as usual.

So Dave's is a bit different from the traditional Tallahassee pizza fare. While still a NY style they have a thicker hand tossed (than most of the local places) upon which they pile fresh Boars Head meats and cheeses. Bottom line it's good, it's fresh, it's ridiculously cheesy, and you should try it out.
(5)Jesse T.
We had a BBQ Chicken pizza dine-in one night and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was pleasant and the beer selection in the cooler was respectable considering the size of the place. The pizza itself had a great crust; crispy but not too crispy and the toppings/cheese were ample. The other "specialty pizza" items on the menu also looked great and I look forward to trying them out.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Very good pizza. Very extensive menu. Hot/cold subs, salads, wings. This place has it all.
(4)Katie B.
Order the nubbies!!!! They are addicting. I could not stop eating them for the life of me. Wonderful, local pizza place. One of the best in town. I've tried the calzones and pizzas, both great. It's a deep dish pizza, but I like it that way! They seem to have good lunch specials too, but I have not gone for lunch. Maybe I should...any who, give it a shot!
(5)Adam M.
Really solid pizza: crust, sauce and cheese all have good flavor. I can't recall the last time I actually wanted a cheese pizza(I like some toppings!) Calzones are well done and oversized. I'm not surprised that its getting great local reviews. Simple and tasty. Can't advise about the salads, but hey, it's a pizza garage, not a salad garden!
(5)Tim R.
Fantastic pizza, surprisingly light and airy crust, great quality toppings and customer service has been top notch on all of our visits.
(5)Tracey E.
Perfect crust, and I'm picky about crust. The meat pizza was out of this world- pepperoni, sausage, ham beef. My husband got that. My rotini salad was good but his pizza was better so I kept stealing it. Nice atmosphere and excellent service
(5)Melanie D.
Favorite place to get a pizza or a calzone! The staff is amazing as is the food! Yum!

I was looking for a new local place to get some pizza for my family. I googled pizza in Tallahassee and saw Dave's pizza garage, I love buying local and jumped at the chance to try something new! I couldn't be happier that I did!! Now the place is a little hard to find because it's not off the main road but set back behind a bagel shop that was already closed for the day and it was already dark and hard to see. But if you can find it or pull a quick u turn (like me) you'll be happy you did! I got a supreme pizza and the ingredients tasted fresh and their pepperoni was amazing! The dough had an incredible taste and it was baked perfect!!! I ordered wings as well and they were good too but they weren't as good as the pizza for sure! The only bad thing I can say about the place is it is small but decorated with lots of memorabilia and odds and ends to keep you looking the whole time your there. The staff could be a little better trained. The girl who placed my order looked like a deer in head lights. When I went to order a beer while I waited I was peeking into the cooler and she said "yeah just point out what you want" as if she didn't know what is what. There was probably only about 20 different beers total and I have worked in restaurants for years now, unless she is brand new she should have that list memorized. But don't worry that won't keep me from coming back!

Pizza is awesome! Love the Chief Chicken Finger! Nubbies are a must! If you have kids and they get a kids meal make them share their chocolate chip cookie or just get yourself one. It's worth it! Great place and very family friendly!

About 10 years or so ago, pizza choices were limited in Tallahassee. Now, there are so many, it's easy for a good one to get overlooked. Dave's is just that, but not just good, reeaallllly good! I wish I had tried it sooner. The ingredients really taste fresh and the crust is delicious, not real thin, not real thick, it's light, just the right amount of crispy, and very tasty. Try the Tuscany specialty pizza - it's great. The ambience reminds me of pizza joints as I remember them growing up. There's brick halfway up the wall, interesting memorabilia adorning the walls, good sturdy basic tables & chairs, and also clean. The service is friendly & good. I think this place has a challenge in that now so many pizza places have popped up in Tallahassee, and, this location is a bit hard to notice, tucked back in behind Brueggers Bagels on N. Monroe. Give Dave's a try next time you're in the mood for pizza! Let's give this one some patronage so they'll stay around - it's a real gem IMO, my new favorite for pizza in Tallytown.

Cool setup with great pizza. Got the large Meaty Deluxe to share and ended up taking half of it home. The location and lack of visibility from the road does not make it an easy find though. Never would have known about it had I not been on Yelp looking for pizza places

We were expecting the standard NY-style thin crust pizza when visiting on New Year's Eve. What we found was a Buffalo, NY style pie, thicker crust with an incredible tomato sauce. The crust, while thick, was light and baked to perfection. We went with the 18"x26" party pizza, enough for our family of four with lots to take home. They also have a nice selection of bottle and draft beer. I highly recommend giving this place a try.
(5)Amy D.
Oh what a pizza! Dave's delivers on taste, value and quantity. We ate at Dave's for the first time and it was delicious. I had the pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. The dough was soft and crispy. The cheese just oozed all over the edges. The pepperoni were spicy and flavorful. I loved it. We will be repeat customers for a long time to come.

Found them on Yelp, midway a 8 hour trip home from Disney World. We are not pizza people, but for some reason we all decided to give it a try. We are the worst food snobs, preferring the highest quality ingredients. This pizza was amazing, we had half of the spinach and chicken and half cheeseburger. We forgot to order a very thin crust, but the regular crust was delicious!!! It wasn't that we were not pizza people, we just had not had excellent pizza before! Sorry you are not in Biloxi MS! We were an all female, three generation, party of five. The complimentary cookies after were fantastic!!!!

Small but nice place with great pizza. I'm not from the Tallahassee area but went to Dave's Pizza Garage for an afternoon fundraising event. Wonderful crust and lots of toppings to choose from. Cannot wait to return.

I heard about this place from a friend, so my husband and I checked it out. The staff is so friendly, the atmosphere is a lot of fun, and the food is extremely good. Excellent quality for the price! My husband is a calzone snob and he loved his. My pizza was delicious. And the loaded nubbies are fabulous. Their crust recipe is on point. And I really enjoyed the sauce (I don't like overly sweet pizza sauces). Seriously - you will not be disappointed!

Great toppings and great crust. Love to bring my kids here - the TMNT arcade game is a great feature as well!

We stayed overnight in Tallahassee on our way to southern Florida and stopped at Dave's Pizza Garage because of Yelp reviews. Very, very good pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a couple beers. The beers were great but the pizza was fantastic. The crust was crunchy when you bite into it but the middle is soft and chewy, but not doughy. The sauce has a sweetness to it and the pepperoni is the best. Top it all off with gooey cheese and you have the perfect pizza. I ate way more than I should have because it was so delicious. We had a chance to talk with Dave. He is a very friendly, nice and hard working guy.

My Guy and I have eaten here a couple of times with a friend. We are big pizza fans, and loved it both times. This place is kind of hidden from view on Monroe Street, closer to Adams. It's a quiet little place with pleasant staff. You have to wait a bit for your food, and you have plenty of menu choices. The food is fresh and tasty. My Guy had their salad and enjoyed it. Basic as salads go, but fresh and with a good dressing. The pizza had a nice thin crunchy crust. The toppings were nice and tasty, and they did not overdo the sauce. This will be a place we plan to revisit.

Kind of a tucked away, quite spot that serves good, fresh food without a lot of fuss. We ordered two pies and an awesome apple something salad with an amazing ginger based dressing.. very good. We had the White Pizza and a Tuscan Pizza, both were very good and had quality, fresh ingredients. Good selection of bottled, craft beer. The only knock that I have is that it's counter service and you have to go buy a beer each round.
(4)Jessica M.
So good!! The sauce is sweet (but not overwhelmingly so), the cheese is quality, and the toppings are plentiful. For the price, you really can't beat it! Ou, and the craft beers (also very affordable) are the perfect accompaniment. As for the ambiance... well the decorations are super random but then again, the name is Dave's "Garage" so that makes sense. For a pizza/wings place... I think this establishment hits the ball out of the park!
(5)Mark L.
Ordered the small Meaty deluxe and 10 Hot wings. Wings were meaty and served piping hot - a little soggy but I think that was because it was a delivery order. The pizza had lots of toppings, plenty of cheese, and the right amount of sauce. Crust was just about right - not too thin and not too doughy. Only thing I would change would be to spice it up a bit - perhaps a little hotter sausage or maybe a little more herbs in the sauce just to give it a little more zip. Overall a very nice find on my Biz trip to Tally!!!

Honestly didn't expect much out of this place; I thought "just what Tallahassee needs, another generic pizza place." But after some friends helped us move, we headed down there to give it a shot; figured it would be a new adventure for all of us. First thing I noticed on the menu? Poutine. Don't know what it is? Do yourself a favor; stop what you're doing right now, go down there and order yourself a steaming basket of this ooey, gooey, cheesy mess of awesomeness covered in gravy. Literally, covered in gravy! You can die happy knowing you've sampled the scrumtrulescence that is poutine: the Canadian's delight. Moving on... We ordered the BLT and the Pig Kahuna at the counter from a really super nice guy. Got to talk to the restaurant's namesake, found out he was a hockey fan, and decided right then and there that I had a new favorite place even without ever trying a bite of food. When the pizza came... Holy sweet Mary, mother of god! It was like a party in my mouth and everyone was invited! The crust; thin, but not New York style thin, I'd say a happy medium between hand tossed and pan. The toppings; super fresh, super tasty. Overall, amazazing. Yes, with an extra syllable for added emphasis. Downside, we'd have liked to have had a few pitchers if beer, but the taps weren't in yet. They've only been open since April, so it's entirely understandable. Upside, the beers they did have, though in bottles and cans, we're not just your run of the mill bud light and the like. They had lots of micro brews and things you don't see every day. Overall, I was totally impressed and will absolutely be going again and again and again.

As promised we returned to Dave's Pizza Garage to try the pizza - called ahead to be sure they had dough. Number 1 said I was a bit harsh with my first review, so I felt I owed the Dave's people another shot without the sarcasm. (Just a note - there are several good/great pizza places in Tallahassee. If you choose to enter the pizza market, you have to be exceptional to stand out.) Second visit went significantly better. I certainly must compliment the staff - friendly, smiling, welcoming, and helpful. 2 small salads, 1 small Taste of Tuscany pizza, and 2 drinks - $26 and change. First, the salads. $3.5 for tomato, red onion, cucumber, Romaine, and croutons served in 8 oz. chili bowls. The square sided bowl makes it hard to eat the salad - pieces keep escaping over the edge. And Romaine cut into long strands so taking one piece out drags others with it. Good salad, albeit overpriced (an opinion), but could be served a better way. The croutons are house made from pizza dough, and would benefit from a quick toasting with butter and garlic. (I priced out the salad ingredients and came up with about $.65 worth of produce.) The pizza - $15 for a 12" small. Excellent crunch on the crust. I'm going to guess frozen dough stretched in house based on the texture. The T of T features spinach, sun-dried tomato, chicken, garlic and fresh basil topped with mozzarella. For $15 I expect a small pizza to be loaded with toppings, and Dave's prep is about average. But the pie tasted great - no complaints about favor! Dave's offers nice surroundings, pretty good food, and a great staff. The Fat Guys are likely to go again, but there are equally as good pizza places between the Fat Guy hut and Dave's, so this likely won't make the regular rotation.

New to town, looking for a slice of pizza near my new place. Dave's and one other place where in walking distance so I decided to try out Dave's today. Pizza by the slice is offered for $3 a slice plus toppings but I'm a cheese pizza guy so no need for toppings. Other reviews say toppings piled high but I can't attest to that. I ordered a slice of cheese and a regular order of poutine (first time!). Although I did not see it posted anywhere, the gentleman at the counter informed me that a slice and a soda was $4 for lunch. After waiting twenty plus minutes one of the young gentleman informed me that my slice was burnt and offered me a bag of chips and a cookie for the inconvenience, I declined and was left thinking why he did not bring my poutine out then. Five minutes later my slice and poutine came out pipping hot. First, the poutine had very good brown gravy and excellent cheese, but I'm not sure that the amount of toppings justifies the $5.29 price over the of a regular basket of fires at $1.99. The poutine was my favorite part of my lunch. As for the pizza, I really have never had anything like it. The thick crisp crust was enjoyable, but too much sauce left the quality cheese running off the sides in globs. While the sauce was sweet and enjoyable, the cheese was quality, and the crust was good, all together as a slice of pizza to be eaten by hand, it failed. Even when eaten with a fork and knife I was off put by the amount of sauce. I don't see myself returning for lunch when craving a slice, but wouldn't object to returning if friend wanted to meet there.

I've been to Dave's about 5-7 times in the past 6 months; each time with wonderful results. The flavor of Dave's pizza is better than the chains available in Tally by far! Portion size and toppings piled high make for a delight for the tastebuds (and the wallet)! The menu is varied from pizzas and calzones (it's not a calzone until you say the 'e'!), to soups, salads, and sandwiches. They have started serving bread bowl soups which I intend to try on my next visit. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Dave's as a family friendly alternative to the pizza chains that litter the town. I hope you have a great experience as well! Salu-te!
(5)Scott W.
Heard a lot of good things about this place. Ordered the Supremo and it was Supremo. Pleanty of toppings and very good sauce, not to tangy not to sweet. We also got the nubbles and they were good as well, however they forgot to give a dipping sauce for them.

Read the reviews about Dave's Pizza Garage and stopped in to try it, gotta say the absolute BEST mozzarella cheese I have found in Tallahassee, fresh and creamy as mozz should be (not the bagged shredded from the factory stuff that most pizza joints use) and the crust was fresh, chewy and crisp! I tried the calzone but asked for mozzarella cheese in place of the ricotta, was excellent and filling, my wife had a slice with bacon and loved it, will definitely go back and try more menu items, met Dave himself, great guy, good passion for freshness, especially the mozz!
