I'm a big fan of breakfast joints and this is one of Tallahassee's better ones. The menu is extensive, and it offers both health nuts and greasy spoon lovers (like me) ample choices. Today I ordered one of their skillets called The Roger, which includes three eggs on a bed of hashbrowns, grilled peppers and onions, and corned beef hash. It was very tasty and filling. My only suggestion to the management would be to invest in iron skillets and serve their skillet dishes in, well, skillets. This is not only more visually appealing, but it also keeps the food warm longer. Canopy Road is best known for its sweet potato pancakes, which I have tried and would also recommend. Besides that, they also have some sweet breakfast dishes that I haven't seen anywhere else such as "birthday cake" pancakes, "peanut butter cup" pancakes, and "cap'n crunch" crusted french toast. I personally haven't tried these, as I'm more of an eggs-n-meat-for-breakfast guy, but other patrons seemed to be thoroughly enjoying them. If Canopy Road would offer some of these tasty-sounding sweet dishes in small portions (i.e., on their dessert menu), I'd take advantage of, and love them for it. But I'm just not the type to order a large sweet dish for breakfast or other entrée. As for the service, I have to say it has improved dramatically recently; it used to be somewhat lacking before. This time the food arrived quickly, my coffee was refilled regularly, and was in-and-out within a reasonable amount of time. That being said, I avoid this place on the weekends, as the wait can be long and the parking in short supply. In short, this is definitely a place I'd hit up for a good and creative breakfast in Tallahassee.

Quite disappointed here. Their service is very good and the sweet potato pancakes I had here four years ago were fantastic, which is why they're getting two stars instead of one. Went there this morning because I saw on their online menu that they offered a vegan tofu scramble. A tofu scramble has just as much tofu as egg in an egg scramble. My husband and I paid nine dollars each for about a handful of mediocre veggies and about four square chunks of tofu each accompanied by some obviously packaged and frozen "home fries." My husband even asked for a double order because he was so hungry and offered to pay double for it, but they brought him about 10% more than I had. They did not charge us double. I'm really not sure why this place stay so packed. When we asked if any of their pancakes were vegan, they said they couldn't guarantee what was in "the mix." That's right, they have frozen home fries and prepackaged pancake mix. With the prices that they charge for these dishes for a short order restaurant, you expect it to be fresh, not something you get could frozen or in a box at a cheap grocery store.

Tried this the other day for the first time And was very pleased! I don't have gluten so was really happy with the sweet potato pancakes option! Although, the praline sauce was soooo sweet so I scraped most of it off. Their sausage links were also great and unique. My bf had the chicken and waffles and he was a happy camper. Wish I sat outside!!

Small and good family restaurant. The pancake was to die for. The classic breakfast was just filling and tasty. Tallahasse has a gem here. And the friendly staff makes you leave at home.

Arrived about 8:00 AM on Thursday morning after reading the reviews I was a little skeptical about the wait mentioned in some of the reviews and didn't want to wait to eat since we were just passing through on our way to Panama City. I was happy to see we beat the rush and found a two top to the left as you enter through the front door. Fifteen minutes later people were lined up outside. Our server greeted us and brought out the coffee and we quickly looked over the menu and the photos on yelp and made our decision. We both chose the create your own, a couple of eggs, grits country ham and a biscuit. Eggs - cooked perfectly as ordered. Grits - spot on not to stiff and not to runny and plenty yummy! Country Ham - it was great ham but the portion was on the small side, after looking at the photo of the ham steak that would of been more to my liking but is was excellent. Biscuit - OMG awesomeness light flaky, moist I wanted another one. And the coffee was as good as the service I'd stop in here every morning if I lived in the area and to top it off it's very reasonably priced. Loved it all!

I just wasn't wowed by this place and I'm not sure if it's because I chose a fairly plain breakfast choice or if it's just incredibly overhyped. All of my friends who went to FSU recommended this place for brunch and I left sort of hungry and disappointed. I came in on a Sunday and was seated inside. My waitress took 15 minutes from the time I got my drink to take my order which seemed like an eternity since she was basically nowhere to be seen during that time. I ordered a Philadelphia omelet with egg whites and a side of fruit. The steak was okay. Sort of dry. The cheese was melted nicely in the omelet but that's sort of where the goodness ended for me. The fruit was mediocre and the omelet honestly just wasn't one of the best I've had. It was pretty sadly average. The service was okay but again, it took me a long time from being seated to getting my food to get out of the place. I didn't like that my server disappeared and I ultimately ended up just going to the register myself to pay for the meal without a receipt since my waitress never brought it to me. I would probably come back and try one of their more creative entrees like the cap'n crunch French toast, but count me in the woefully underwhelmed category for now.

I have been going to canopy road for breakfast all week now. The place is kind of hidden with a big oak tree hanging over the front of the place. Maybe the reason for the name? I have had really good service the whole time but once my server was wearing his pajamas for the first part of breakfast. A little different? Yep I would say so. Then there's a little step stool at the pick up window. Well yesterday I found out why. The other serve that works here need edit to see inside the kitchen. The food was good to really good until today. Today my ham steak was hammered. I mean hard to cut over cooked. My eggs have been spot on all week. One thing I could complain about is dry overlooked (for me) and ice cold hard butter. In all I have had good food for the most part and it is on the way to work and it is open early enough for me to eat and make it to work before everyone else.

As a team in THIS location, they get it right! They know their menu, their cook's capabilities, their regulars (we are MANY) and they are quick with personal favorites. On the rare occasion it's not quite right (I am remembering only once in four years) they were crazy good about quickly making it right and me feel satisfied. It is a big menu, but Darriel and JC have it covered. I usually refrain from making specific dish recommendations because, truthfully we all have our talented or tortured tastebuds and... this menu is quite good to an item. There is a wait at times, but frankly, most all breakfast places have waits. If you're allergic to waiting or that's your best shot in a review, come early OR stay home and cook your own eggs.
(4)Selma F.
Good food but need more servers. Waited 30mins to get in then waited 20 mins for a server to come to the table and then 10 minutes to get a check. Service is everything. When food is stacked up waiting for servers to get it you need more servers. Note to ownership more servers means turn more tables and better service.
(4)Gordon C.
This place has casual charm and high qaulity fresh ingredients. I ordered the lamb gyro with sweet potatoe fries. I noticed on the menu they also serve garlic parmesian french fries and was feeling extra froggy that day so I asked to have the sweet potatoe fries parmed and garliced! They didnt charge me extra and I truely enjoyed the meal. The service was super friendly! Will return! :-)
(5)Ramona C.
For the longest time this place was always my go-to, lately not so much, though. Over the last few months, the food has gotten increasingly greasier. The wait staff is wonderful and on point, and the food comes pretty quick, but when there's that much grease on your plate it kind of just takes over and the true flavors disappear.

A great little breakfast spot in Tally. Really interesting choices on the menu from sweet potato pancakes to captain crunch french toast. It's a small place, so be prepared for a little wait. The service can be a little slow at times. There are many vegetarian options. My favorite place to have breakfast when I am in Tally.
(4)Paulette R.
During an extended layover in Tallahassee, hubby found many reviews of this restaurant and we decided to give it a shot for weekend brunch. It's situated in a tight little retail center at the junction of two busy streets. Inside, it's small but clean and charming. There is a backdoor entrance that opens up into a smaller dining room, and a well shaded deck in front for al fresco fans. It was hard to decide what to eat! Everything was cooked to order and tasted fresh. Portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. We will definitely return if business brings us this way again.
(4)Stacy S.
I enjoyed my breakfast burger, complete with eggs, bacon, and ham. The staff were very friendly and the service excellent. We sat outside with the dog and the waitress brought him water. Breakfast is available during lunchtime. I recommend!
(4)Nancee M.
Our first meal here. Service was friendly and fast. The food was just like home made if I took the time to make it. Loved every last bite. :-)
(5)Kim N.
You know a place is good whe there are crowds of people waiting outside for a table. This did not disappoint. I ordered a veggie Omlette. It was delicious and healthy. The list of pancakes and waffles on this menu looked amazing so we ordered sweet potato pancakes just to "try a taste". 5 tastes later half of it was gone. Service was great as well. A friendly, clean, energetic place.
(4)Denver E.
Hands down my favorite breakfast spot in Tally. These folks have really dialed in how to make the most amazing french toast ever. My personal favorite menu item is the Captain Crunch French Toast. Let me tell you something.. I could still taste the food in mouth an hour after I left like I had just taken a bite and I am drooling right now trying to write this review for such great breakfast food. I would like to give it 5 stars, but I feel like I would need to sample a bit more of the menu to fairly be able to do so. If you get a chance to have breakfast there, go for it as there is a huge menu chocked full of one of a kind items that has a little something for everyone.
(4)Katie B.
4.5! The French toast is wonderful. I have tried the plain as well as the captain crunch but I would like to try the others as well! The sweet potato pancakes are good as well, but they are suuuuper sweet. It's one of the best breakfast stops in Tallahassee!
(4)Carolina V.
The environment is mediocre, the service is not the nicest all the time. Pretty inconsistent. Sometimes the captain crunch waffles are amazing, sometimes they barely have capt. crunch on them! The 1st time I had the hot chocolate, it had whipped cream and chocolate chips! I was sold! I must have gotten lucky because that only happened once. I've even received the hot chocolate half-mixed in, I have to finish making it myself. The scrambled eggs are awful. For $2.5 per a side of eggs, you expect decent eggs. We've ordered a side of eggs twice and they are always dry, overdone and not fluffy! "Crappy" is how they have been described. I'd give it 2 stars, but sporadically things are...A-OK at best.
(3)Stella M.
Third time here and as usual, our meals were okay. I have yet to order anything that really knocks my socks off. My husband ordered the sunrise crepes, which were actually quite good, but I ordered the jerk chicken omelette and that was subpar. The chicken was low quality and definitely not jerk chicken. It was just peppered chicken. The rest of the ingredients made up for it though.
(3)Kathryn M.
Best Blueberry Cobbler Pancakes! Service excellent. Staff excellent.. You will have to wait, but it is worth it.
(5)John M.
Fast, short-order brunch fare that gets the job done. The corned beef hash was a little lacking in meat but pretty pleasant, and my dining companions had pancakes that looked not bad. I doubt this place would win any awards but you can't go wrong with breakfast favorites done right.
(3)Cindy M.
I was here a few years ago and I still remember the sweet potato pancakes here so when we needed to have breakfast in Tally I knew I had to come back. We each ordered coffee and the Canopy road special (scrambled eggs, bacon and sourdough toast) and then we ordered a sweet potato pancake to share. The coffee here is so good I must have had three cups. The canopy road special was perfectly delicious. The bacon was crispy just like I like it and the eggs were great. But the pancake is just out of this world, between the praline sauce and the whipped cream it was an amazing combination of sweet sinful flavor.
(4)Pat S.
Best breakfast place in Tally that I have found. Pancakes were huge and the best I recall EVER having. Eggs were cooked perfect for over easy. White toast is thick but good. Home fries were the deep fried type but the also had shredded hash browns. The link sausage is large and not your typical breakfast links. It had good flavor. Lastly, my only complaint was the coffee. It was flavorless and week. I like mine medium strength or more. Atmosphere is small and a little cramped but you can have conversation wo raising your voice. Service was good also. Prices were fair and good value for what you got. I can't wait to go back as I saw other dishes that looked good and I'd love to try them.
(5)Daniel P.
My wife and I will often come for breakfast. The menu offers what you'd expect PLUS options that are very good. Straight-up eggs n' stuff requires consistency, but sweet and savory crepes extend beyond consistency and require (dare I say) an artistic perspective in the composition and the arrangement. Service is great. We've NEVER been disappointed, and we've been fans for years.
(4)Rachel N.
All of my food was cold. I am not usually picky or one to send food back to the kitchen - I then received a plate with re-toasted bread, hard bacon that could have been cooked hours ago, and part of my meal missing. Upside, my server was polite, attentive, and even took $3 off my meal. I'm not sure I will be going back.
(2)Helen C.
Food is pretty good, just the wait sucks :(. Long wait and no where to sit and wait but on the floor outside. If there was no wait, it would be perfect.
(4)Maureen K.
My first meal in Tallahassee. We came on a Wed for breakfast and it was Packed and the wait long. Good food, good service. My only regret is not ordering the chicken and waffles for breakfast!
(4)Rhonda R.
My husband and I make a point to eat here every time we are in Tallahassee visiting our son at college. Great coffee and the service is always spot on. This time I had the vegetarian dish that came loaded with vegetables and tofu. Delicious!
(5)M.J. J.
Wow - Measure your expectations for how good breakfast can be in the south and double them. Wife was here on business so we went here based on the good Yelp reviews and all the reviews were spot on: Long wait for a table but friendly wait staff, fast service and GREAT food. Wanted to try more than one thing so got one sweet potato pancake and a Texas toast egg sandwich which were both incredible. Wife got a veggie omelet that she loved and the total bill (including coffee) was under $20. Thank you Yelp for helping us find this fantastic place.

I finally got to go here when my work project required me to be in town over the weekend. As was previously reported by others, Canopy Road Cafe offers a large and solid selection of brunch and lunch options. Great location in Midtown near Lake Ela. They opened at 9am on Saturday, and I had to wait about 15 - 20 minutes when I arrived at 10am--so get there early and anticipate a bit of a wait. I tried the corned beef and hash with scrambled eggs. Rye toast and a small orange juice rounded out my selection. Since I already was nursing a Starbucks dark roast, I didn't get a chance to try their coffee. Pretty good food--not the best, but way above the Waffle House standard. Now, about the service. This is a very buy place, so don't expect the server to be at your beck and call--she definitely wasn't available to me very much. That was a bit of a problem when I wanted a water refill or the check, but luckily I wan't in a bit hurry. Next time, I want to try the pancakes and ham steak. Maybe this will give me an even better impression of this restaurant. Overall: Okay to good, but if you don't want to tolerate a long wait, maybe you should go somewhere else.
(3)Alexander M.
Decent breakfast. Cajun sausage was delicious. Hot chocolate from a mix was mediocre. Fast, friendly service.
(4)Daito Eric T.
Slow poor service. Food not good. No Ice for the ice tea. Much better choices in Tallahassee.
(1)Rick P.
I have not been able to figure out why this place is so popular. The menu is enticing, but the food comes out as if prepared by Waffle House. No flair, nothing special, and nothing particularly healthy. Not bad, and the prices are fair, but I'll keep looking for a good breakfast spot.
(3)Walt T.
Great breakfast spot. Food was excellent. I had the sweet potatoe pancakes.....wow! Food was plentiful and prices reasonable. I would highly recommend.
(5)Larissa S.
Went there for breakfast at 11am during the week and we got a table right away. The waitress was really nice. There's a lot to choose from and we decided to get the signature griddle combo with 2 scrambled eggs, bacon and cap'n crunch French toast. We also had a sweet potato pancake as a side since everyone on yelp recommends them. The bacon and the sweet potato pancake were delicious - thanks yelpers ;-) they have free refill on regular coffee and soda. Was very satisfied with our breakfast. Not giving 5 stars because it could be a better breakfast place if they had more coffee choices and a nicer interior. However, for breakfast with friends it's a super nice place. I also like that they have healthy options and you can sub almost everything. Tip: have a look at they're menu online because it's huge and it may take you ages to agree on what you want.
(4)Jessica L.
Yum!! Ambience isn't fantastic and is kind of cramped but it is good. Like others have said it gets pretty dang busy especially on Sundays. I've had the sweet potato pancakes (just as good as all the reviews claim! YUM!) and last time had a salad that they made into a wrap. Actually they first made the salad and when the waitress came to give it to me realized and they made it into a wrap in roughly 2 minutes... impressive!! Not in a great location, few parking spots and easy to drive right past if you're not intensely staring at all the road signs you pass. But delicious food and nice staff. You also have to know to pay up at the counter, just as a heads up!
(3)Jennifer I.
Good breakfast! The menu is HUGE. I had the Monterrey omelet, which had a Mexican-themed stuffing. I was a little bit dismayed because on the menu, it said that it came with guacamole, but what turned out to be guacamole was actually just cut-up avocados (in large pieces). By the time I arrived for Sunday brunch, they had run out of hash browns, but our server suggested home fries, and they were delicious. They were extremely busy for Sunday brunch (we went there after a failed attempt at finding parking at Mockingbird Cafe), and the servers seemed a little bit overwhelmed. However, my personal experience was good, and I would go back.
(4)Rusty S.
Service is pretty good, though they could use more servers on the weekends when FSU classes are in session (it's popular with college students, expect to wait a while on weekends). Never had a bad meal here, nor has my girlfriend. She enjoys the vegan options.
(4)Selmy B.
BEST Breakfast or brunch in Tally. No competition. Prices are extremely reasonable and the food is amazing. There are the traditional breakfast items and then there are the treats, like the Cap'nCrunch French Toasts. I love the pancakes and the combo options are great options to try an assortment of items. The multi-grain wheatberry toast is original and extremely tasty. Come with time on your hands, because the wait here is usually a long one. But everywhere else in Tally the wait is long but the food is not as delicious or assorted as it is here. This place continues to be a must-stop when visiting in Tally. Outdoor dining tables and chairs are available but limited.
(5)Brooklyn O.
Amazing breakfast options, and the staff are super fast and friendly!
(5)David A.
Reading yelp reviews, we waited about 30 minutes and had breakfast here today. The four star rating is all about the popular sweet potato pancakes. My fellow yelpers have called out this dish for good reason. It is fantastic. Pancakes are fluffy and huge with incredible flavor. They serve this with a cinnamon butter. Decadent and really not necessary if you want to save the calories. The rest of the food was 2/3 star stuff. The wrap with eggs and veggie sausage tasted good but was really skimpy on ingredients. And for $7 just not a good value. Lot this thing up with douuble the ingredients and it would be very good. Also tried the multi grain pancake. Just ok. Coffee was fresh and they kept it full. Service was friendly and very good after the long wait. A small, unassuming place that is good but has potential to be great.
(4)Michelle P.
I searched for a nice breakfast option that I could try before leaving for the airport today and ended up going for this place. I didn't have a hard time parking, but as I pulled up I realized there was gong to be a wait. There were at least 10 people waiting outside in 30 degree weather. I went in and put my name on the list and then was asked to wait outside. The nice guy managing the seating told me it would be 15 min. but since I was alone, that he'd try to seat me sooner. As I looked around the very small dining area, I couldn't imagine how he'd be able to make that happen, but I was happy that he made mention. Anyway, I waited outside with everyone else on the list and waited about 35 min before my name was called. I was seated in the far left corner of the restaurant next to the service window, and under a television. The waitress came by for my drink order and mumbled something about coming back when my friend arrives. -BLANK STARE- No one said anything about a friend, but before I could respond, her back was facing me and she was heading back to the kitchen. I had to speak up to get her attention and tell her I was alone and ready to order. I ordered a cup of coffee, a cup of water, the 2+1+2 breakfast with 2 blueberry pancakes ($1 extra for blueberry rather than plain), 1 country ham, and eggs scrambled hard. It took about 20 minutes for my food to come out. My pancakes tasted super bland and the syrup was clearly diluted. Also, the pancakes has a slight onion flavor to them, which led me to wonder about a number of possible reasons for this. The country ham was most upsetting. It was a quarter of the size that I anticipated receiving, kind of the same size as a slice of Spam. The eggs were indeed scrambled hard as i requested so at least for that I give a plus. All in all, I will never come back here again...not worth the $10 or the long wait, and definitely not the quality I expected given the good reviews from other Yelpers.
(2)Sundi P.
Excellent breakfast. I had the Tuscan omelette (which was great), but everything looked wonderful
(5)Gertie O.
Wow! Great breakfast- so may choices that sounded good it was hard to decide. I had the eggs and corn beef hash, very tasty but it was the biscuits that really rocked world -- buttery, light and hot from the oven. Couldn't stop eating them! The only reason I am giving them only 4 stars is because the bathroom was trashed enough that I didn't want to use it. And, the staff, while friendly enough, had an exclusive 'cool group' vibe about them that was a little condescending.
(4)Mark E.
the wait here was ridiculous! we actually drove around looking for another spot but couldnt find one. we came back around 45 mins later and they were just getting to our name. but, i must say, it was pretty delicious. i got this omlette-y, scrambled goodness. it had eggs with meats on top of hash browns. i doubt if i'll ever get back to Tallahassee but if i do, i'll stop in here!
(4)Carlos Z.
Staff is great and the food is awesome as well! Makes for a great breakfast experience. Just be prepared for lines.
(5)Nathan M.
Good food at great prices. Fresh and local made it even better. The only caveat is that the dining area is really small.
(4)Kenneth M.
I don't get the rave reviews on this place. I went here for the first time because I kept reading people's reviews. My visit was so unremarkable that I don't even remember what I ordered...other than breakfast. I believe that the popularity of this place has something to do with the lack of breakfast places in this town.
(2)Ladyblue B.
Basic breakfast style food....nothing special,....not particularly clean looking. Probably would not eat there again, but try something nicer. just average. Will say it was very busy and full of customers though.
(3)Aaron E.
Great Breakfast! I enjoy going here for a hangover remedy or just when I want some good food. The staff are great and courteous to your needs. Get here on time though, because it is a very popular restaurant.
(5)Lala C.
By now with all of the times that I have visited family in Tallahassee, I should be used to the fact that so many restaurants are in the ubiquitous strip malls. Canopy Road Cafe is one of these- would classify it as a dive. Huge menus in a small place do not lend itself to quality preparation. Two servers who did not seem to care about dirty tables or being truthful when they did not know how the food was prepared were "in charge". The owner should be wondering why their food cost is so high as people were sending dishes back frequently and the servers were comping them left and right. Not much value- a 3 egg omelet is usually a good size portion but this was a very thin- pour the eggs on a flat top and then flip them to make a 3-fold. Fillings were scarce. Grits were piled on the plate- not in a bowl so that was odd too. No presentation, fries looked like they were poured from a bag, sloppy cooking. My fruit crepes had such minimal filling and again at $9 - DUH- now I know how the owner breaks even on that food cost!! No food on the plates but charge everyone a somewhat fair expected price- $9. I had asked the server if the crepes were served dry and was assured yes! Guess what? They appeared with odd colored syrups and fake whipped cream. Sent them back- and she apologized for the change. We had to go up to the register for our bill as the server was sitting with her back to the tables folding silverware. This was at lunch time... Skip this place- too many other good local places in Tally to try out!
(1)Jeremy C.
Try the sweet potato pancakes. They are delicious!
(4)Leah S.
Food was just ok. Nothing special really. Nothing organic, smuckers jelly provided (contains high fructose corn syrup) and they cook w/heavy margarine spread. Hash browns were flattened and all mushed together. They try to add some healthy touches to the menu but they don't actually cook it healthy and the syrup and stuff is the unhealthy.
(2)Ricardo S.
Good old classics you love plus some very interesting and yet very good unusual combinations hard to find anywhere else. Also decent prices with a nice cozy look and feel to it
(4)Gina D.
Great food. We went for breakfast during parents weekend at FSU. It is a small place and a wait but well worth it. I had the Beebee Skillet. Lots of food and very good. We also ordered the biscuits (huge and fresh made) and gravy, bananas foster French toast and the fresh fruit crepes. (Leftovers for the dorm room ). Everything was great. Will definitely be coming back.
(4)Giselle C.
Best brunch place I've probably ever been too. The server was so sweet and the food was soooooo good. I got the sweet potato pancakes and they were awesome!! A bit sweeter than I'm used too but still really good. I'd totally recommend coming here on a lazy Saturday or Sunday morning...you won't regret it!
(5)Lissette M.
Great breakfast! Best breakfast place in Tallahassee. Food was great! Service was excellent!
(4)Abby K.
After seeing all the great reviews, I decided to try it. So glad I did! It's a little hole in the wall place and it was packed. Waited for a half hour but well worth it. I had the chicken fried steak skillet and it was delicious. Their homestyle potatoes were awesome as well. They make their hot chocolate with chocolate chips added to it. Can't wait to come back and try the captain crunch french toast or the sweet potato pancake. A must go to place for breakfast! Daniel, my server, was also very sweet.
(5)Amanda C.
I stopped here for breakfast two separate times while I was road tripping to Texas. The food is very good! I got the berry berry good french toast. Normally when restaurants serve fruit on meals there isn't much, but my french toast was covered in fresh blueberries, strawberries and kiwi. If I am ever in Tallahassee again I will definitely be eating here!
(5)Theresa L.
After being highly recommended by someone I was visiting, decided to stop by for breakfast before heading home. Got here at 8 am on a Thursday morning, big parking lot, you can smell the food outside! It's a cute little place, not fancy. There was probably only 4 other people in there, waitress was very friendly! I got the sweet potato pancakes (since that was what it was recommended to me) x2 and a side of bacon (3 pieces). The food came 10 min later, wow! Looked and smelled amazing, and it tasted delicious!!!! Yum!! It was sweet but that's where the bacon comes in (crispy the way I like them) great combination. The prices are very reasonable too. All that and coffee was about 10 dollars. They take credit cards too! Highly recommended for breakfast.

Breakfast. Cold eggs. Obviously frozen and undercooked, greasy hash browns. Cold sausage. Biscuits weren't ready, even though they'd been open almost two hours. Coffee was essentially hot water. No body or flavor. Girlfriend's sweet potato pancakes were uncooked in the center. Feeling sick to my stomach as I write this. I real shame, since this place used to be good a few years ago. Now it's no better than a Waffle House.

Breakfast....... This is the place to go! Adorable small cafe with the best breakfast in all of Tally and great service. We have tried coming here several times on our visit to see our daughter and could never get in. They have waits of over an hour and it's typical. This particular day we got lucky and got a table immediately. Their breakfast menu is huge offering everything you can imagine from sandwiches to omelette's, pancakes, French toast at very reasonable prices. Our table ordered eggs, pancakes, omelette's, oh wow they were incredible. Very good coffee and our waitress was super friendly and fast. Another must try are their sausage links, big links with great flavor. OK if you want an excellent breakfast, incredible service, for a great price in a casual cafe this place is a must! Yummy!

The place wasn't bad but I wasn't blown away either. I had seen all the reviews and thought to give it a try. I figured that the food must be really good for people to wait up to 40 minutes just to get seated inside. Once I got in, the servers were friendly and took my order promptly but the food just didn't blow me away like i thought it would. I got the French toast half order with bacon and eggs. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I just expected it to taste better than it did..nice place but I doubt I'll wait 40 minutes for it again..(except maybe to try the captain crunch french toast!)

This place is awesome. Canopy Road Cafe is a breakfast/lunch place that serves simple meals. The atmosphere gives you that local feel to it and the servers are quite nice and friendly. Few things that stands out here are their crepes and omeletes and for the price of it, its really good. If you don't believe me, try showing up there during the morning weekends and see how busy they are and people outside waiting to be seated at least 20-30 minutes. And they will wait. So why am I giving this place a 4 star? Because they don't try to be fancy at all. I mean it's a very affordable breakfast and you can't really screw that up. The servers are friendly and nice and the atmosphere here makes you feel comfortable.

Decent breakfast, very average coffee but when you pay at the register you look right into a messy and dirty-looking kitchen. That didn't sit well with me.
(2)Michael A.
I've eaten here several times as it's a convenient spot and there aren't a ton of breakfast places in Tallahassee. "Meh" is a good way to describe it. it's plain food, that's not great tasting. Ok service, and Ok prices. Also the wait here is always really long, which I don't get. Maybe people aren't used to better?
(2)Shannon C.
Love this breakfast spot for delicious home cooked food at great prices! both decadent and healthier options galore on the menu!
(3)Corey W.
Great breakfast/brunch place. Be prepared to wait 30 min on the weekend! It's well worth it though. I had a breakfast sandwich which was great and also had a taste of their pancakes. I've heard the sweet potato pancakes and bananas foster French toast are wonderful. Great service all around, definitely going back multiple times.

I've been to Canopy Road two times. The first time, I was impressed! I had the Cap'n Crunch French Toast, which was cooked to golden brown perfection and topped with fresh and tasty fruit. I revisited Canopy Road this morning and was very disappointed with my meal, though. I ordered the Monterey omelet, which comes with a filling of avocados, tomatoes, onions, and Provolone cheese. Like another reviewer stated, my omelet was incredibly thin. The avocados inside were almost completely brown/grey, the tomatoes were mushy, and the onions looked like sautéed mushrooms with how brown they were. I scooped out the filling and just ate the eggs. I understand that onions and tomatoes can easily be overcooked and that avocados can turn brown fairly quickly. However, for the price, I expected fresh-looking ingredients in the omelet. I will give Canopy Road another shot, but this visit was disappointing. On a positive note, the hot chocolate I ordered came out in a HUGE cup (styrofoam...a little odd), with a ton of whipped cream on top. I'm used to getting a small cup for hot chocolate, so my sweet tooth was definitely satisfied :).

Handled New Year's Day brunch crowd very well. I had the Denver Omelet and it was great. Side of grits: not worth a penny, they were no good and I didn't eat them. My husband had the chicken and waffles and they were great. We split a sweet potato pancake - be sure to eat with whipped cream, it makes the dish!

It's been a while since my last review. Not that I'm yelped out or started reviewing for another site (I would never cheat on my yelpy!) I've just been busy - not going out much. But having traveled to Tallahassee for business and visiting the Canopy Road, I'm ending my yelp sabbatical and writing a well deserving review. After reading the yelp reviews I decided to head over to this cafe for an early (8ish) Sunday breakfast. Holy smokes this place is good. The potato pancakes live up to their hype. I had the napoleon crepes (nutella, bananas and strawberries) and they were yummy. My breakfast companions ordered omelets and they seem to have enjoyed them because they barely spoke a word until their plates were clean. Add to that some good tasting coffee, friendly staff and very reasonable prices and I almost want to move to Tallahassee... ok - maybe not! But I'm definitely coming back next time I am in town.
(5)Nina P.
Where do i start? The bacon , OoOoO, the bacon is so scrumptious everytime i leave this place i want to high five the cook for a mean ass breakfast!! Banana Fosters French Toast is to die for and as all the fellow Yelpers said the pancakes are nice and fluffy. Def. the place to go for breakfast in Tallahassee, but be prepared to wait :/
(5)Nicole A.
This place serves pretty good breakfast with some interesting options on the menu. I just ordered simple stuff (eggs, toast, etc.) and it wasn't that great, but I sampled some of the more creative stuff others had ordered and it tasted pretty good. Will def go back to try some of the fancy breakfast stuff. Also, our service was good and I liked the atmosphere!
(4)Ryan B.
Worst waffle I've ever had, along with merely decent home fries for $3
(1)William B.
Dear Canopy Road, I know this is probably too soon, but I love you. We've only known each other for 9 months, but it's like I've known you my whole life. I can't even remember what it's like to enjoy breakfast with any other establishment. I've talked about you to my friends and even introduced you to my family. Anytime my in-laws are in town, they want to see you. I'm glad they've finally found something that is good enough for their daughter. My daughter loves your monkey cakes. I am so happy that you are great with kids. That is a quality in an eatery that is very important to me. Your sweet potato pancakes make me sad that you haven't been in my life since birth. I'm not a fan of french toast, but your berry version is delicious. Your lunches shouldn't be glanced over either. That wisconsin cheddar burger with the sweet potato fries is exactly what I am looking for to get through the day. Your cheese steak isn't a Pat's or Geno's, but it's best I've had south of the Mason-Dixon. And that SDS sandwich almost brings a tear to my eye it's so good. I'm glad we found each other, Canopy Road. You're a bright spot in an otherwise barren culinary land of the capital city. I can't wait to grow old with you. Yours truly, Bill
(5)Evelyn B.
This was delicious! I got the breakfast special (home fries, 2 eggs, bacon, and toast) and it was only $6.41.
(5)Mary M.
This is one of my regular Sunday breakfast spots - I love it! The decor is definitely grunge, table legs are uneven, and the chairs sort of feel as though they may not last too long. But all that is made up for by the food. With the exception of the home fries (not great) and the grits (tasteless) everything is delicious. For breakfast I go for the savory over the sweet, so I haven't tried the sweet potato pancakes, but after reading the reviews I may have to change my habits. Note that if you get there before about 8:30 of a Sunday there won't be any wait.
(4)Jenna B.
We went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning because it got such good reviews on Yelp. Boy were we underwhelmed. It was 40 degrees out and we were told to wait outside because it could be a fire hazard because the restaurant was so small. Fine. We waited outside, and our name was never called. The host got a little testy when we asked where our name was. We ordered pretty promptly, but it took more than 20 minutes to get our food. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles, which would've been tasty, 'cep they sat on the order counter for quite a while and were pretty damn cold when he got his food. I say when he got his food, because it took about 5 more minutes for mine to come out. I ordered the sweet potato pancakes - pretty yummy - and bacon - sort of cold. We complained about the temperature and our waiter discounted the chicken and waffles. But he dropped off the check as soon as he dropped off my pancakes, and never circled back to see if we needed more coffee. Overall, food was OK but service was lacking. May try it again, but may not.
(2)Steve W.
Great option for brunch! We dined here with a few friends when we visited Tallahassee over Labor Day weekend. The food was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. If we still lived in Tallahassee, we would have brunch here regularly.
(5)BeverlyHills X.
I'll make this quick. I use Yelp* often and think it is good karma to contribute to this thing. Ditto what everyone else says. Go there, get the Potato Pancakes, come home and write a write. Just do it. I promise you that you won't regret it! 'Nuff said.
(5)Adele K.
Sweet Potato Pancakes!!!! absolutely amazing...... service was good....will go whenever I am in town
(4)Mary B.
A-mazing brunch!! Delicious and speedy! Unfortunately it's no longer a local secret, the brunch wait is atrocious now. I used to go here regularly for brunch but I am too impatient to wait for 45 min for a table. The decor is great once you get inside. The tree painted on the wall in the back room is so cool! The waitstaff is always amazingly friendly and helpful. I've also been here for lunch and it was delicious. I had a tuna melt, so tasty and not a lot of mayo thank goodness! Everything is fresh and tasty. Highly recommend, just not for brunch!
(5)Raw D.
food is always great, service gets a tad bit slow when its busy. not much else to complain about. crepes cinnamon yes
(5)Yaneth F.
We stopped in (from Brooklyn, NY). The food was great.... literally eating out of everyone on my table plate. The sweet potato pancakes are so good. Highly recommend it.
(4)Jon K.
Canopy Road Cafe is a small breakfast spot that has a variety of food. This is THE brunch place on the weekend. Unfortunately this location is extremely small (maybe less than 15 small tables). I've always had to wait to be seated. The food is good and reliable. It's much more like a small diner than a cafe. Lots of menu options and friendly staff. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but come early and be prepared to wait.
(4)Lori C.
Great little breakfast dive! Definitely try their sweet potato pancakes. Food was very fresh. If you are going for upscale decor then this is not the place for you.
(5)Ryan F.
Awesome breakfast. Best in Tally! I had the monterrey omlette w/ pepperjack instaed of provolone. (avocado, bacon, tomato) w/ home fries. Shared a sweet potato pancake w/ Shannon B. You MUST split one or get your own. She had the Little Abner. 2 honey butter chicken biscuits. Delicious fried chicken breast with scrambled egg on a biscuits. Decent coffee. Will be going back for the Father Kevin Challenge (FKC) = 2 double burgers (2lbs of meat) w/ onion rings and all the fixings, 12 strips of bacon and 1 lb of fries. Should you complete it ALL within 20 minutes your name goes on the wall of fame and you get a t-shit. The meal is $25, but FREE obviously should you clean your plate. Man v. Food style. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Ted W.
Great place for breakfast. Food is great and place is small so be prepared to wait...outside. So plan your trip based on the weather. There we five us and no one was disappointed. We all had large omelets, but the clear cut winner was the sweet potato pancakes. The service was excellent...friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Thumbs up.
(5)Mai T.
It's very average classic run of the mill diner place with a few twerks here and there to seem like its not. Nothing to exceptional but decent. I probably wouldn't go back unless someone I knew really wanted to go there.
(2)Andrea T.
Definitely a fan of the wings and the garlic Parmesan Fries!!!!
(4)Amanda Z.
Canopy Road Cafe is absolutely wonderful. They have great breakfast sandwiches, crepes, and bananas foster french toast. The Little Abner is the best... only downside is the long wait that one always have to endure to get to the fabulous food. Waiters are very attentive and kind.
(4)Just Me K.
I LOVE CANOPY ROAD! I'd give them 5 stars if I didn't have to wait all the time, but I LOVE IT and I do wait because it's worth the wait. Not only is the food yum, it's the PEOPLE! great to ppl watch/listen.... and the staff is FAB! yes they can be overwhelmed bc the place is small and there are TONS of people waiting to be seated but they do a great job! They are nice they care about you and they remember you which makes it a great place to go even when you are alone BACON! YUM!
(4)Jennifer R.
Came here for brunch w/ some friends on a mid Sat. morning. Based on other yelp reviews I went straight for the Sweet Potato pancakes. I was NOT disappointed. They were big and fluffy, and topped w/ crumbled pecans, sweet cinnamon butter and a dollop of whipped cream. Def hit the spot but I couldn't finish them because I got full :( Since I got the griddle combo the pancakes also came with eggs and 3 really good strips of bacon. The price was reasonable too. My only gripe was the wait. It was a little over 30 mins just to get seated. From what I observed I think you either have to come extra early or around 1:30-2pm to miss the bulk of the crowd because the place isn't that big. Normally a wait time that long will put a hungry group on edge but the service made up for the long wait. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently. Overall..if I'm not starving and willing to wait a while for breakfast I would try Canopy again.
(3)Jeremy F.
I really wanted to LOVE it after reading the reviews, but I was let down. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I ordered the breakfast sandwhich with turkey sausage, egg on a croissant. It was very greasy which was a turn off.. I ate what I could but wasnt thrilled by any means.. The coffee however was very good. Maybe I will try again and order something else...
(2)Donna R.
Canopy Road Cafe is where we usually go for breakfast. The menu offers a variety of choices, from plain old eggs and bacon, to wraps, French toast or pancakes. The sweet potato pancake is a breakfast dessert. One usually get one to share at the table. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. They are always busy, so you may have to wait a minute or two. The atmosphere is VERY causal, and you don't have to get dressed up for sure. Lunch burgers and sandwiches are great too. The French fries are the best. Good value and good portions. We love it - give them a try - you will not be disappointed.
(5)Whitney N.
I love coming here for a quick breakfast or a sandwich. Everything is greasy and awesome, but you don't get that I'm-gonna-die-from-fried-breakfast feeling when you leave because the food is high quality. It's super slammed on the weekends though, so don't plan on getting food right away if you're starving to death.
(4)Marie F.
I love this place on a Sunday morning. I expect a decent wait, but I know it's well worth it. It's small and a little cramped. I feel like I'm stuck in my grandmother's kitchen. But that kitchen has had great service and great food every time. I haven't gone through the menu. Normally sticking to breakfast food. Everyone should try...Sweat Potato Pancakes and Omelets (exactly how you like it). Once you're done just take a couple laps around Lake Ella.
(4)John V.
Superb Banana's Foster French Toast and excellent Crépes make this a must stop if you're nearby. Great service by the staff!
(4)Jonathan L.
Great local place for breakfast and lunch. The garlic fries are sinful. The pancakes are very good too.
(4)Rick C.
Our waitress looked like she would be a lot of fun to talk to. She had amazing tattoos and she seemed to know all of the customers by name. Unfortunately she was way too busy to give much attention to us. The breakfast at Canopy Road is about what you would expect at any breakfast joint. Portions were just right except for the OJ. You never seem to get enough OJ. The strawberry topping on my pancakes were a bit skimpy too. We visited Canopy Road Cafe on a Friday morning. Sat down at a table right away. Then the wait began. Waited about 20 minutes before the waitress took our order. Waited even longer for our food to arrive. I wasn't watching the clock but you know how it feels when it's taking too long. 2 breakfast dishes + 2 OJ's + 1 coffee = $27 + very long wait. If you've got a lot of time to kill in the morning then this is your place.
(2)Ella L.
Two eggs, grits, biscuits and coffee- classic! Down home and done right, they even had a veggie patty option that fooled me and spit out on first try thinking it was sausage for sure! LOL! Just wish they had wi fi :-(
(4)Mark M.
Quaint with tasty food but parking can be a challenge
(3)Lauren M.
I've only ever come here for breakfast so I'm not sure about anything else on their menu. While it took 15 minutes for the servers to wipe down 3 empty tables and seat us, and another 10 minutes to take our drink order, the most fantastic, hands down BEST pancakes I've had in a really really really long time make up for anything Canopy Road could ever do wrong. They're super rich and delicious, so my friends and I usually split a stack of pancakes and get a side. You MUST TRY the sweet potato pancakes. The monkey (banana) and walnut pancakes are also fantastic. Oh, and the veggie patties are totally worth the $2 on the side. They are absolutely superb. I honestly nearly confused it for real sausage. GO GET PANCAKES AND VEGGIE PATTIES NOW.
(4)Ed K.
The place is bright, well lit and clean. And the food, although it's not I'm-gonna-pee-in-my-pants good, it's good enough that I think this will be my go-to greasy spoon breakfast joint in Tallahassee. The menu is skewed toward breakfast items, but it does also have a fair complement of burgers and sandwiches and probably other stuff as well, but I was fixated on the country fried steak...mmmmmmmmmcountryfriedsteak.....mmmmmmmm. Um, yeah. So... Service is attentive enough, but as it was really busy when we went, a little bit on the slow side. (Through no fault of our server or of the kitchen staff; he was hustling from one end of the restaurant to to the other. There was literally a line out the door for tables, which in my opinion is a good sign.) On second thought, don't go to this restaurant. I'd rather not have to compete for a table on my weekends!
(3)Charles J.
Good food, and reasonably priced for the amount and quality. Service is kinda sketchy tho; I couldn't seem to get my soda refilled, and had to go up to the cashier to collect the check. However, I think this particular waitress was just having a rough day. It was better the second time. Def worth a visit on a lazy sunday morning.
(4)Peter C.
Good food. Would have been 5 stars but service was lacking. I had the California crepes (crepes stuffed with turkey, bacon, avocado, swiss cheese, and tomatoes), and they were delicious. My companion had the corned beef hash with eggs over easy, and she declared it to be the among the best corned beef hash she's ever had. We downgraded only because if the service. It took a very long time for us to get our coffees refilled - we were done eating by the time anyone refilled our mugs. Also, the women's bathroom was out of both toilet paper and soap. Someone had informed the staff of the TP situation, but it was not addressed by the time we left the restaurant. Overall, the food was excellent and we will dine here again next time we are in Tallahassee. We went here on a Sunday morning at 10:30 and we had about a 10 minute wait.
(4)Cathy B.
One day you are going to get up and want banana and walnut pancakes!
(5)Erik S.
A good, affordable breakfast. The hash browns were awesome and the waitress was a hot little FSU college student. If you want a good, quiet greasy-spoon coffeeshop with a good breakfast, this is the place.
(4)Stewart Z.
No character expt possibly grung (although not dirty). Food like ok, not great. Like eating at a college cafateria in terms of quality. Staff very friendly and nice young kids.
(2)Crispian G.
best breakfast in tallahassee. you might have to wait if you go there on a weekend but it's well worth it. canopy road special is great if you don't wanna save money and the omelettes are amazing.
(5)Gena G.
I highly recommend everything on the menu especially the sweet potato pancakes and veggie patties.
(5)Jim P.
A good choice for breakfast!
(4)Jeremy M.
First time visiting this cafe prior to a football game. Yes it does get very busy but it's definitely worth the wait, the food is as good as its gets for breakfast and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Best breakfast in Tallahassee!
(5)Lady D.
I enjoy going to small, locally owned businessess. My breakfast experience was wonderful with a nice big plate of French toast. It was on thick bread , seasoned perfectly. However, hubby had the country fried steak. It was by far, the most delicious I've ever had. It was not easy to get him to part with any but it was too huge for a single person to eat. ( darn it, he finished it at lunch!). I will be going back to this place. The service was excellent.
(3)Beccie F.
one of my favorite breakfast spots in tallahassee. they have veggie sausage options for every plate. they have a veggie breakfast wrap that is not only really tasty, but you get to leave there feeling pretty healthy while all your friends are groaning about their hawaiian french toast carb coma. i've not had ONE thing here which has not been really satisfying. well, the coffee's just "eh", and when it comes to the grits, i've certainly had better. but aside from that, this place gets a big overall thumbs up from me. i've still been meaning to try their nutritious fiber pancakes... going on a weekend? be prepared to wait a bit, though not terribly long. tables seem to turn pretty quickly.
(4)Sara G.
Greasy-spoon diner type joint. Affordable prices, service was good. I had the multi-grain pancakes with fruit and walnuts on the top plus ordered 2 eggs on the side. Eggs were perfect. Pancakes were tasty but WAY bigger than expected. I ordered 2, should have just gotten 1. The girlfriend had the cornbeef hash and loved it. They got extra service points when the waiter offered to give my girl a carryout refill on her diet coke. Recommended for breakfast!
(4)Mark S.
I've been here for breakfast and lunch. Great food for the money. You often have a wait but it's never been been longer than 15 minutes. We try to hit it once a month or so.
(4)Tangy W.
Love this place! Going out for breakfast is one my favorite weekend things to do and Canopy Road Cafe is my spot. It's not like the best breakfast ever but it comes really, really close. I can't stand the traditional breakfast joints like IHop and Waffle House and this place is worth me getting up early for. The menu has several options and I love that they offer crepes, fresh fruit and a million and one ways to get omelets and don't even get me started on the pancakes....the sweet potato ones are to die for. When we go, I make sure it is before 9 to beat the crowds because the restaurant space is really small but it is defiantly worth a try if you want a good home cooked meal. Lunch food is really good as well :)
(5)Bert G.
The home fries are amazing, service is friendly, and there's plenty of parking in the back.
(4)Jessica C.
Looking for a great brunch place in TLH. There was about a 20 min wait around 11:30am on a Sunday, so we knew the place had to be decent. It was delicious! I was disappointed to find out that their corned beef hash wasn't home made, so we ordered biscuits and gravy a la carte, the monterey omelet and french toast with banana and walnuts. No complaints what-so-ever. The entire menu looked delish! I'd highly recommend this place for brunch.
(4)Y Y.
I found their menu in the local yellow pages. We went there on a Sunday morning for brunch. The place was full and there were several parties waiting for tables so they are definitely popular. It is a very casual place. Tables are yellow, simple and easy for the staff to wipe down between customers. With typical sugar, jams, ketchup, hot sauce, maple syrup, etc. Not all the tables were fully stocked though. Most of the tables are in the front part of the store and there are about three tables at the back. Their menu offer things like breakfast sets of eggs, bacon, steak, toast. As well as sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, omelettes and pancakes. We tried some of the different pancakes (Canopy cakes). The servings are generous and came out nice and hot. I like that the different kinds of pancakes weren't all of the same kind of batter. Service was casual, friendly and attentive. We had our coffee cups filled up constantly. There is a bit of parking in the front and the back.
(3)Victoria R.
If I was writing this review solely based on Canopy Road's sweet potato pancakes I would be giving it a 5 star rating but it loses the two stars with the rest of its menu. Canopy Road is a no frills breakfast/lunch place in terms of atmosphere-- a little small and cramped but not so much that it is unbearable. Recently they repainted and redid the floors making the feel a little bit cleaner. The menu has many selections for breakfast and lunch including many different kinds of pancakes, crepes, your typical two egg with grits and toast, as well as an array of sandwiches and wraps. That being said despite the quantity of choices not every choice is a good one. Their cheese grits are a bowl of grits with a slice of american cheese on top, their berry crepes seem to have the taste that they were cooked in the same pan that cooked the bacon or sausage. I recommend the cinnamon crepes (they don't seem to have the weird meaty taste that the berry ones do), any of the omelets (you can make your own), and above all else the sweet potato pancakes which are the best thing about this place.
(3)Zoheb N.
Really liked it here - came here one fine Saturday morning with a friend. The wait staff is friendly, and the service is fast and attentive. The food was really good as well. I had the Jamaican omelette and really enjoyed it. Some places make really awful omelettes, but this wasnt true of Canopy Road. My friend had Bananas Foster (I think) and really enjoyed it. I'd recommend everyone give it a shot.
(5)Patrice G.
This was a great breakfast find as we were passing through Tallahassee. If you like pancakes (and even if you don't), get the sweet potato/pecan. Wonderful! Did a "splitski" with my daughter and also had avocado/bacon skillet. Very good! Friendly staff. Only criticism would be the unisex bathroom. Kind of dirty, no soap, ...
(4)Whitnae P.
nothing special, your standard eggs and bacon joint. don't see why people love it so much, they don't even give you orange juice in a glass, it like a bs amount of oj in a bottle.
