Before I made it to Tallahassee, my line sisters continuously talked about how good California Chicken is. I guess I was behind the curve because I can't remember eating from this place much while attending FAMU. Needless to say, our first stop while in Tally was at California Chicken. I ordered the grilled wings with teriyaki sauce and yellow rice. This place has amazing grilled wings. Cooked to perfection and the flavor was all there. The yellow rice was the bomb too. They were a little stingy with the sauce (additional sauce is 50 cents a pop) but it's worth the additional charge. Next time I am in Tally, California Chicken will be on the menu.

Every drunk college kid's dream of what to eat after leaving the club. That hunger for grilled chicken, rice, and variety of sauces. This is one of the hot spots to stop by. They are open pretty late sometimes till I think about 3am, which makes it a good choice. You can get a plate of rice and meat for less than $10. Pretty darn good if you ask me. The service here though is pretty shotty. Sometimes they are so cool and friendly, they will help you with whatever. Other times they ignore me and will take forever. Then I get the servers who sometimes question my choice in the mango habanero sauce. I CAN HANDLE IT! It is pretty tasty. To be honest though, I have never eaten here without being drunk. I much prefer this to those fast food chains that are also open late, but the more unique taste of this surpasses them.

I'm not one for being verbose or overly dramatic, but as I sit here on the speckled porcelain thrown at work (of which I am deathly afraid), I couldn't think of a more fitting time to write a review of California Chicken Grill. Now I've been a resident of Tallahassee since 1999, and I have dined at literally every restaurant in town. I have ordered from CCG probably a total of 10 times over the last decade, and each time I swallow that initial bite memories of disappointment and regret flood my mind. It has been about 3 years since my last experience, and today I wanted to give it another shot with an open-mind. I pulled into the parking lot, walked into the restaurant and immediately thought to myself, "wow, this dump looks the same as it did 10 years ago!" That should have triggered flashbacks of disappointment, but my mind hasn't been working as well in my old age. The nice young lady at the register greeted me with a smile, and after asking for suggestions, I decided on her recommendation....one large skinless boneless combo with half yellow & half brown rice, with steamed veggies, and the Jamaican jerk sauce to go. I handed her two $5 bills and she handed back $0.33. That's pretty pricey considering that it is located within walking distance from campus, and doesn't even come with a drink. My order came out after a reasonable waiting period and I headed back to work. When I opened the bag, pulled out the box and opened it to inspect the contents, I almost wanted to throw it away. The dry chicken was sprinkled over yellow rice, with not a single grain of brown rice. Fine, mistakes happen, I get it. The steamed veggies were...good as it is hard to mess those up. I took my first fork full into my starving mouth (it was about 2:30pm) and almost teared up. The yellow instant rice was bland, as usual, and the dry chicken was heavily salted. The sauce looked disgusting and tasted even worse. I remember thinking that my little tummy would exact revenge in a few hours...and here I am 4 hours later....in the dirty men's bathroom at work. Picture this, I'm literally hovering over a seat that's heavily padded with TP, and my poor tummy is throbbing as the partially digested garbage from CCG explodes into the innocent bowl below me, seriously. I can only think of five things right now... A) California Chicken Grill is still a dump. B) I can forgive the appearance if the food is good, but it is terrible, period. C) How can they justify the price? For perspective, you can go to Moes, Chipotle, or even the Cajun Cafe in the Tallahassee Mall (yes, I just went there) and get higher quality food that ACTUALLY TASTES GOOD for 20-30% less. D) Any of you who have given this place a positive review in the past have poor taste. Live a little and expand your horizons with real restaurants. E) Never again will I dine here. I'd rather burn $9 and throw the 67-cents into the sewer than spend my money here. Well, there is actually a 6th...I'm hoping that I don't accidentally drop my phone in the toilet during the next wave of stomach cramps... I'm so hungry now. :-( -Rob

Ordered from here on 6 or 7 occasions so far, hassle every time. They have not gotten my order right once. Meals either missing an item or given a wrong item. Service is terrible, location in need of competent employees badly. Always getting told excuses even when the place is empty..

I am not a big fan of fried wings, one because it's not healthy for you and two because it usually comes out as dry chicken wings. Gross. This was my first experience here and Melissa did a great job walking me through the entire menu while taking into consideration my taste for certain foods. She did a amazing job greeting with a warm smile even though some guests can be difficult at times waiting to be helped or waiting for food to brought out. The chicken wings here are all grilled, so if you are looking for a healthy alternative you should definitely try them with sauce on the side that way you are not self conscious about calories. Plus California Chicken Grill has great hours of operation until 3:00AM, so if you are a night owl and need a quick snack or dinner this would be a good place to try out. I appreciated plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting because things can get hectic when you are hungry and waiting. Good salads are available to order if you don't want something heavy. I will be stopping by again soon before or after class just because you can never go wrong with grilled chicken! Kudos!

The best thing about California Chicken Grill is that they deliver! You can get fresh grilled chicken and rice in half an hour; you don't have you settle for greasy pizza or Chinese! The in-store atmosphere isn't the greatest, but they have a pretty popular outdoor deck. There isn't a fryer on premises; everything is baked or grilled. Don't miss the potato wedges!

My pre-Yelp days consisted of many meals on the top deck of California Chicken Grill. The spacious layout of CCG goes unmatched for the price point of any restaurant in Tallahassee. Last night the service was on-point. The two cashiers were bubbly, friendly and full of humor. Wait times are usually quick and last night was no exception. I'd say 8-10 minutes tops. After the gym I have a Hulk-ish appetite, hence I ordered the large ($1 extra) boneless, skinless combo with baked potato wedges and yellow rice. Not sure how much more food they actually give you for the extra dollar, but I won't dwell on it. The Curry Mustard sauce has always been my favorite. Smooth and creamy with a slight edge to it. The Jamaican Jerk was decent, but for me it didn't pair well at all with the type of chicken I ordered. It had a powerful vinegar taste. The texture strangely reminded me of ginger dressing. Again, not bad - just not with this specific meal. Chicken had good flavor, even a nice char on the outer pieces. Generally, the yellow rice is fairly basic. It serves as a proper bed for the chicken. Next time I'll try their take on brown rice. The baked potato wedges are awesome. Very large strips that are better than most thick-cut french fries. Definitely one of their premiere side items. My peaceful ambiance was interrupted when two wasps decided to join my table during dinner on the top deck. Fun fact: Matt is allergic to bees/wasps and swells up like a balloon when they decide to make landfall. Fortunately, no stings were stung. But my meal consisted of me shoveling food down my throat and sitting on the edge of my seat with my legs constantly shaking. Actually, this nothing new for me... CCG I'll be back to try a few more meals; I'll just sit inside next time. Again, shout-out to the great customer service, quick ticket times and filling eats!

Great drunk food! Chicken, rice and your favorite flavor of sauce. I've also had it sober - it wasn't that bad. I would say it is definitely a staple drunken food stop though for sure! For prices and the quality, it is pretty good.

I used to love this place, then I moved to Miami for a year and realized that this is a bare minimum when it comes to chicken and rice. the best part of this place is the curry mustard I am happy to report that they do that right, but the chicken is just average and rice is terrible. Sadly the sides aren't much better, the mac and cheese isn't very good and taste like chicken broth. The best thing about CCG is they are open late and they deliver. The location is fine, but the prices are a little high for the quality.

Just like chicken kitchen in Miami but more basic quality and choices. remember to bring ur college id for a discounted student price

Four stars in its class. Sauces are made in-house and grilled chicken is unbeatable. For those remembering Wings n' Rings back in the day - this is the very building. The deck is completely unchanged. Exceptionally attentive counter service and good overall value. This is still the humble building it was, but clean and proud of their output. We'll be back.

Thoroughly unamused by what California Chicken Grill has become. I've been in Tallahassee for awhile and over the years the quality has gone down but the breaking point was when I ordered a large dark meat and I kid you not, when I opened that black box it was like a children's portion and even then a 10 year old would still probably be dissatisfied. Are you cutting corners to stay open CCG? Is this what we have been succumbbed to? Now what I will happily give my one star to is that they are open late! Not everyone has the agility to cater to the night owls so keep it up...atleast.

I ordered a large meal and they couldn't only gave me food that covered half of the container. BBQ chicken was dry and disgusting.

I've eaten here about a dozen times throughout my 4 years at FSU, and unfortunately this was around 11 times too many. I have tried and tried to enjoy this food, but there's no two ways around it; this place blows. It's pretty dumpy inside; plan to touch something sticky while you're in there. The food is lackluster, leaves much to be desired, and is inconsistent. Last time I went I waited 30 minutes for my food. Upon confronting the manager about this bullshit he was extremely rude and firmly blamed everything else instead of taking some sort of responsibility. He put a 30% discount on their computer under my name, which probably translated to "double spit" back in the kitchen. Wow, 30% off of an 8$ meal! What a deal! That will surely amend the inexcusable wait and attitude I received. Spoiler alert: it did not. With the plethora of places there are to choose from in this area of Tallahassee, you've gotta be financially retarded and mentally unstable to chose this shit hole.

Consistently yummy food, zesty flavors, and pretty fresh ingredients. Everything is pretty healthy since they do not fry any of their items. The food is mostly grilled, but the french fries and chicken tenders are baked. Love the boneless white meat combo with curry mustard sauce, yellow rice, and the garden salad. Yum! The service is fine, and the atmosphere is okay. Nothing fancy, but no complaints, either.

I absolutely love the food here! The only problem I have with this place are the prices! Oh my goodness I spend $10 dollars on a meal and NOT with a drink. I would say the prices are fine if it was with a delivery fee, but for a regular dine-in I say they should take it down $2.

Great chicken fingers, fries, and chicken soup!

Healthy and tastes good but is sometimes inconsistent. Usually good but one time I got a skinless boneless combo white and most of the meat was charred. They have delicious sauces (curry mustard is awesome) and the portions are decent but slightly overpriced. There is no reason to go for the regular size when the large is usually only $1 extra and it comes with more so every time I go there, I spend about $10 for a meal. Would really like to try their enticing side dishes but in combo meals, they bind you to the yellow rice and a choice of only one extra side. A side by itself is like $2.50, again, slightly overpriced.

I only ever get one thing at CCG: the dark meat boneless, skinless combo with potato wedges. The chicken has a great flavor, the rice is serviceable, and the potato wedges are pretty good. What really keeps me coming back are the sauces--particularly the curry mustard, ranch, and honey mustard. This place would have gotten four stars a few months ago, but I found out the curry mustard is made up largely of mayonnaise. For the last couple of years I thought I was getting a healthy mustard sauce (admittedly creamy, but still, it's mustard), but it turns out this was not the case. I was disillusioned by this revelation, so three stars it is.

I miss you, CCG! mashed sweet potatoes, broccoli and cheese, grilled chicken over rice with your choice of dipping sauce...as healthy as you wanna be (steamed veggies and salsa) or as naughty (fried potatoes, ranch, mac and cheese) as you like. atmosphere can be summed up by: take it to go! or better yet...they have delivery! you don't have to eat unhealthy pizza no more when you're stuck somewhere. Very close to the stadium if you happen to live there like i did. Yup, i lived inside the stadium. Univ Center A. For two years.
