Price is outrageous for this place. This type of food cost almost nothing to make ask anyone who has been to Memphis or New Orleans. Vegetable soup had no spice and the grilled chicken while it was cooked well was still fairly flavorless. The servers were nice but for this price frankly I expect more. If you bring me french fries I shouldn't have to ask for ketchup and it definitely shouldn't come in a squeeze bottle that isn't even name brand. The place had butcher paper on the table and didn't even use real napkins. I'm unimpressed.

Went again and loved it. Yes it's full of people but it's worth the wait. The haters below are obviously upset because they are not Kosher and don't understand that we have to pay a bit more to eat Kosher. Hopefully the world can become a bit more tolerant and understanding.

BEWARE: of 5 star reviews from people that have only done 1-2 reviews. The prices here are outrageous. $30 for a BBQ plate! In Texas you would never see such craziness. Everything on this menu is overpriced.

Friendly staff was very busy, but did NOT ignore me when I needed anything! Service was quick. Inside was noisy, but we sat outside and we could easily hear ourselves speak. Food was prepared well and tasty. Waiter had our check in hand just as we were ready (much better than most restaurants.)

I will give this place two stars for freshness, zero for flavor and pretty expensive for bbq. Very oriented to the local community and persons in search of kosher bbq. My brisket was drowned in sauce and almost unrecognizable, The bbq chicken had no smoke flavor whatsoever and my fries were a little on the soggy side. If you are true bbq lover his really isn't your place.

Waited an hour and a half for my food here. Ordered 2 grilled chicken salads and brisket. The grilled chicken took an hour to come out. We never got the brisket because after waiting an hour and a half, we had to leave. I wish our waitress would have told us that it wasn't going to be ready for a long time. They told us it would be right out. Is an hour and a half right out?

Very tasty beef dishes. Everything has been smoked and barbecued to perfection. Service was great, too
No work schedule hours. They open when they feel like it? Come, pay for parking and find out they are closed. I'm curious how long this joint will last.

Good food, but way to overpriced. We had the brisket and the chicken schnitzel. The schnitzel was AMAZING and the brisket was pretty good. Keep in mind that this place is kosher, so NO DAIRY. Meaning the coleslaw was a little..umm..different, but good. Overall, a good place to eat with GREAT service during the slow season.

I'll start by mentioning the good....the food was definitely delicious! But on the other hand, unfortunately the service was HORRIBLE due to probably overcrowding the little space available. It was obviously too much to handle on one night!

I had occasionally passed by this recently opened Kosher barbecue restaurant, and seen people seated outside eating this restaurant's beef ribs. They looked good. So, this afternoon(January 13,2015), I took a lady friend to this restaurant. They got off to a bad start. The staff were agonizing over where to seat me and my friend. This was odd, since 90% of the tables were empty. Then, we discovered that they don't offer ribs & other barbecued foods at lunch. They're a barbecue restaurant and they don't offer ribs at lunch. What a bunch of amateurs! My date & I left, and ate elsewhere. I'm not coming back. Whether their food is good or bad isn't the issue. They're just plain stupid. Really they don't need business from the general public, including secular people of Jewish ethnicity, such as myself. They're a kosher/orthodox restaurant and they have their kosher-requiring orthodox clientele by the balls. On Sunday afternoon(even in their first week of business) they filled all but two tables. On that occasion, I entered, and stood at the front, waiting for someone to seat me. No one ever did seat me, and since it was unpleasantly hot inside the restaurant, i exited. Even trying to give this restaurant a second chance was a waste of effort. If they can survive in the restaurant business with only their orthodox customers, then good luck to them.

Please don't ask for pork... this place is Kosher!!! deal with it. I'm not Jewish, but hey, this is Surfside, let's embrace our diversity. I'm a true meat eater married to a true veggie woman, and during our visit to this fine establishment, we were both pleasantly satisfied with the quality of the food. My wife's salad looked fresh and tasty, but my religion did not allow me to eat salad in a BBQ joint. I ordered the fatty brisket and it was perfect, I definitely would order it again. I'm now curious about the burgers, but I do need cheese on mine, and so I'm hopeful that the owner will add the option of adding cheese on the side.

This place is superb. My family and I had a HUGE and delicious dinner there: smoked brisket, the best fried chicken in Miami, moist schnitzel, and a burger that's just awesomely delicious. Kids had hotdogs and fries and were thrilled. We returned for lunch and had giant salad with grilled chicken and grilled steak. Atmosphere is informal and really well put together, and service was welcoming and warm. Prices totally fair, I'd say. Miami needed a Kosher place like this, but I sent a neighbor who isn't Kosher and he thought the quality of the meat was way, way beyond good. So I think that even if you don't keep Kosher there's plenty here for you. All in all, a wonderful place. Happy it's here: I'll be back!

I am not a wings and ribs kind of girl. So when the Backyard was the location for a recent birthday party of a friend, I was less than enthused to join in. What a surprise! The place has a good sports bar type of feel but is elegant in the decor and clean. The menu is heavy with barbecue fare but definitely surprised me with the delicious salads and fish main. Everyone at the table was happy with the food - the free beer and wine made the party hum along. We had a great time and I would definitely go again with or without a party invite!

Loud and noisy. Prices high and food mediocre. Received complimentary glass of wine for large order and glass was 1/4 poured. Four side dishes all small and a salad that was in a coffee cup size bowl. Crowded....zero atmosphere and genuinely phony. If you like the ole "slam dunk" you'll love Backyard Barbeque

Don't do it. Over priced under quality. All our food was cold. Ordered special of the day - baby back ribs - DRENCHED in BBQ sauce, cold and $28 for 6 small ribs. Husband ordered chicken schnitzel sandwich was "ok". My sons kid burger was $7 for a 6oz burger - half the size of the bread it came in. Dry. We ordered sausage plate for appetizer tasted like 3 hot dogs and cold bland flavor. So Disappointed based on location of surf side strip and oozed of trendy yet fell short on what was most important.

We won't be going back any time soon. We went here for lunch a week ago and overall our experience was ok at first. Service was fine and our waiter was a nice guy. Everything was brought out in a timely manner, although he messed up one of our orders and brought out grilled chicken instead of fried chicken. He also forgot to bring our truffle fries until after we got our entrees. Food was a different story. My mom got a caesar salad and liked it. I got the grilled chicken which was ok, but kind of dry and plain. My boyfriend got something from their sushi menu, which ended up being a huge mistake, and he ended up with food poisoning for the rest of the week. I don't understand why there even is a sushi menu to begin with, should just get rid of it or replace it with with more barbecue themed menu items. It's too bad cause the decor is nice and our waiter was nice, but we can't trust the food from there ever again.

Nothing positive to say about this place but the decor and ambience. I ordered a burger and the meat came burnt. My 2 year old had a burger from the kids menu and it was burn as well. We couldnt eat it at all. The burger from the childrens menu came plain after paying 7 bucks and mine from the regular menu 18 dollars with just lettuce tomatoes and onions. If you want to add bacon, egg etc.3 bucks. This place is waaaay overpriced. The service was horribleee. Ive never been to a place where the servers talk on the phone inside the restaurant while in duty. What was that? This place wont last much since it seems theres no management/supervision and quality control.

A real fine dining kosher approach to BBQ and the draft beers are uniquely amazing! The owner is usually around to make sure everything flows smoothly and is a super nice guy. Very approachable and aims to please. Danny and Timothy are great surveys -we had Danny last time and Timothy tonight sitting outside.

Awful food, overpriced and terrible. This is barbecue for folks who've got no clue what barbecue is supposed to be. Staff is untrained. I wouldn't eat here again. Perhaps the worst meal I've had in Miami, and that's saying a lot. The "spare ribs" were tough and uneatable beef ribs. The "rack" consisted of 5 of these uneatable ribs, for only $49. Oh, yes I almost forgot, $2 additional for sauce and if you want bread, that's also $2. Of four of us eating, not one person enjoyed their meal. Staff is poorly trained as well, not a pleasant experience. My advice, take your money to south Miami beach, where the food is potentially more expensive, but at least you've got a fighting chance it'll be right!

Elisha K.
Despite only being open for a week this place really had their act together! Our server Daniel, was incredibly knowledgable and new the menu front and back. He made several recommendations for our order which were incredible. The ribs were smoked perfectly, the fries were crisp, and the fried chicken was incredibly moist and sweet! The wait time for our meal was under 10 minutes and we enjoyed several beers during that time. The owner came to talk to us during our wait and introduced himself and was incredibly friendly and welcoming. All things said and done, my wife and I enjoyed our meal and would definitely come again!

I'll just go ahead and echo the previous reviews in case you're stubborn- OVERPRICED, MEDIOCRE FOOD. If you enjoy eating here (considering the price/sloppiness/bad quality of ingredients) I'm pretty worried about the breadth of your life experiences. I'm almost angry that someone thought they could slap together such a basic restaurant and charge people these prices. ...oh wait no I AM angry. A million better places to go. This is Miami. Go explore and let me save you the time. AVOID.

Very bad service... I had reservation for 9:30, its already 10:30 and i havn't seat, they give priority to people they know and let the other people stay outside and wait for hours... The one who was checking the reservations treated me really bad and with no respect. They have no organization, if it's high seasson i would not recommend this place

There were 8 of us on a group vacation, and of all the meals we had around Miami, this was both the worst and the most overpriced. THE SERVICE: Our server didn't seem aware of our needs, wasn't always around when we needed him, and when my friend asked for a burger to-go at the end of the meal, he still brought it out on a plate. I came late after everyone had ordered, so I don't know the exact names of all the dishes. THE COST: $287 total. * Fries - 2.5 stars Too soft, not enough crisp, and dry. * Sweet Potato Fries - 4 stars One of the few things I was impressed with! These were moist yet had a good crisp. The best surprise was when I thought I was bitting into a carrot and it turned out to be a fry! * Veggies - 2.5 stars These were either steamed or boiled and had very little flavor, though a decent crunch. * Salad - 3 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/back… Generic, fine, but everything was cut into really large pieces so it was hard to share. * Brisket - 2 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/back… This tasted processed and was over-sauced. We likened this to canned meat, and the phrase "cat food" was tossed around as well. The meat had no texture and was like rubber that they tried to cover up with a thick, artificial-tasting sauce. * Cowboy Steak - 3.5 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/back… Actually pretty good, relative to the rest of the meal. The meat was good quality and tender. It was quite rare--we asked for medium-rare but it was really undercooked, basically bloody almost all the way through. We enjoyed the fatty parts of the meat around the bone, too.

Absolutely fantastic!! I'm from Kailua, Oahu & this is my first time leaving the island EVER! Anyways, we landed & got super hungry & saw this place. I immediately fell in love. The menu was amazing & our order was definitely to die for. I highly recommend this place to anyone!! I left fully satisfied & every bite was delicious.

DO NOT GO!!! I called for delivery, besides waiting almost 20 minutes. The guy finally came on the phone. I was asking him questions about the order. He gave me an attitude. He finally give me the price for Half chicken with fries. The order came up to $36. I asked if he was serious, he was. I was curious about the price of the whole chicken. It's was $49.99 . I told him to cancel the order. It's ridiculous.

Simplistic in nature, Big in flavor, and phenomenal in Service. Originally my wife and I had no intention of having lunch here. After a few unsuccessful stops at other local venues fate intervened. Sean our Waiter was a professional and very pleasant to interact with. Our food was delicious and the wine (recommended by Sean) was pleasant and accentuated our food selections. The wife and I will definitely return here.

I work nearby so I decided to walk over for lunch because who doesn't love bbq? Well, if you're someone who does this place isn't for you. The menu is not very "backyard bbq" at all. When I think "backyard bbq" I think BBQ chicken, coleslaw, fries, baked beans, corn, potato salad, etc (hmmm... My mouth is watering). The last thing to cross your mind should be SUSHI!!! Hello??? Who sells sushi at a bbq joint? So I got past the weird selection of sushi and decided on chicken with side of sweet potato fries since that seemed to be the most appropriate. It was a total let down. One under-seasoned piece of chicken (which btw does NOT come with BBQ sauce, you have to request it) and a little side of fries. What a waste. To top it off, this "meal" was $17 AND they include 18% gratuity. They obviously knew their food sucked and don't want people to leave a tip they deserve= $0! If you want sushi, go across the street! It's awesome! And if you actually want BBQ and Brew, don't stop here!!! Go to Flanigans for better prices and good quality!!!

Just Awful ! ! ! Worst Hamburger I have ever had.! ! Asked for Medium and came out well done, as did my wife's. Couple of pieces of burnt caramelized onions and 2 small pieces of boiled tomato (masquerading as tomato confit ) and a huge piece of lettuce leaf from the very outer edge of the lettuce, and that was it. Awful. The cook is lazy and should be fired. Only reason for two stars is that the waiter was very very nice and the craft beer was great. If you must go to his place then go for the beer only NOT the food.

This place it's awesome! The food it's incredible , clean, people are polite, honestly and sadly .. Not the norm when it comes to kosher places.. The beers are great.. The pastrami it's to die for! If the place is packed .. Kosh a cross the road it's yummy as well. Well done guys you have a superb 5 stars place!

I have nothing positive to say about this restaurant beyond the decor. The food/beverage is far overpriced ($9 for an IPA, $11 for a "basket" of fries with a tiny amount of mushrooms dumped on them) and underwhelming with either no seasoning or condiments. The place is dirty (our booth had crumbs everywhere, a pint glass had lipstick on it, my salad bowl was dirty) and they had just opened. The service was slow and at a place that says "BBQ & Brew" I shouldn't have to keep saying "IPA" and attempting to explain my selection due to a language barrier. She refused to split checks and any additional request for condiments took forever. My protein-less salad was the final item to arrive ten minutes after the rest of the party's food. My friend lives a very short walk from here and now knows not to bring his friends and family here. Do yourself a favor and save your money and time.

OK, I was being a dick with my former review, but I'm still pretty sour about the serious lack of beer. I specifically went to this place looking to have a couple of drinks with a fried, and was only offered Bud Light, Amstel and Corona. I asked one of the staff behind the bar if they had any beers and the guy looked like he was going to start laughing. However, they offered the first round of drinks on the house, so I ended up staying. I had the mixed green salad - it was pretty fresh and fairly decent. I obviously can't give this place a complete review since I didn't have a complete meal, but I liked the set up inside. Maybe I'll return the next time I'm in the area - specifically, for the friend chicken. P.S. - I received two different death threats if I didn't update my review.. just kidding.

NO PORK!! That's right it's a kosher restaurant. Don't be fooled though. Four people satiated from three plates. We shared the eggplant appetizer, the "large" brisket, and 12 oz churrasco. Final total was $80 no drinks or dessert. I don't mind paying these at a fancy place, but not at a restaurant you call 'Backyard BBQ' The food was good but I won't return unless someone else foots the bill. If you want casual bbq you can just go down the block to Flanigans.

Highly dis-recommend. Bottled beer (no beer on tap) was warm and they kept bringing back the same warm bottle. Food was nothing special; in fact, the truffle fries weren't truffle at all. They were soggy fries with mushrooms sautéed on top. Nothing smoked is available Saturday night and they even tried to charge us for items we didn't order!

We came for dinner to celebrate a family occasion. Best steak I ever had! My 7 yr old knocked over a glass of water and the wait staff has everything clean and dry in less than a minute. Great food & excellent service
