I'm so glad I discovered Doris' Italian Market. This is the best market I've ever been to. I would go there just for the meat department. The steaks, veal and lamb are absolutely wonderful. Try the boneless rib-eye. I buy them every week. I think the produce must be local because you just won't find tomatoes like that at any of the big super markets. All the produce is fresh. The prepared food is hit or miss. Some of it is very good and others are just so-so. There's an excellent fish market in the store that's run by The Fish Peddler. The deserts are to die for. Try the Tiramisù. I shop here all the time and absolutely love it.

Wow, what an amazing place! I'd heard of this place mentioned several times since my wife and I moved to Sunrise almost a year ago and let me tell you, Doris' delivers on every front as an authentic Italian market and bakery. First, let's talk produce, excellent selection of all your staple veggies and fruits as well as seasonal ones. Anyone who knows anything about Italian cooking knows that fresh herbs are vital, well, Doris' offers a great variety of herbs and in different package sizes. Another thing you notice as soon as you walk in is the wine selection; varied and specialized, the wine section is sure to have exactly the right taste for your Italian fare. The most impressive section of Doris' is the Deli and Meat section. At the deli, you can get almost any type of sliced meat, or cheese as well as certain Italian specialitys, like stuffed peppers, meatballs in marinara, liver pate or eggplant salad and, speaking of salads, they have a salad bar where you can get your Antipasto fix at! Their salad bar has several different salads and the best part is that they're all fresh! Without a doubt the best quality of Doris' has to be the meat section. Really clean, efficient and speedy, the only other meat section that tops Doris' would have to be at our neighborhood Whole Foods. The quality of their fish, meat, pork and poultry is excellent, quite frankly, it's the best meat I've bought at any non-franchised grocery store since I've started living in Florida. A niche at any Italian store is their sausages and Doris' really comes through with their variety of homemade sausages: you can even tell them to mix different sausages together or order with or without the casing. Another notiable feature is their bakery, If you're looking for some Italian pastries then this is your spot: canolies, sfogliatella, tatallo, boconnoto, pasticiotto, rum cakes, parigini, Napoleans, cakes, you name it it's here! Make sure you check out their cookie selection as well. There is only one negative aspect about Doris' and that is that the aisles feel too small and sometimes a little congested. The other thing is that the registers are very close to the aisle openings so I could see how it may become over crowded on a busy day. Now, comes the moment of truth, is it worth it? Hellz yeah. There are only a few grocery stores that offer excellent prices for excellent quality and Doris has it all, they have very helpful and friendly employees, fun and happy patrons - my wife became shopping buddies with two eldery ladies there and, as I mentioned earlier, the price-point is excactly were they need to be. If you're planning on stocking up for home or for a bbq, Doris should be first on your list for all of the essentials. Give Doris' Italian Market and Bakery a try and break the Publix-Winn Dixie-Whole Foods monotony.

This store is fantastic! I love the selection of fresh meats and cheap prices on produce. They put Publix to shame! Well worth the drive to get here.
(5)Michelle N.
I like to come here just for the produce. Never mind all the other fantastic sections, the produce alone is great. Prices are excellent on fruits and vegetables and they are fresh. They also have a meat counter, prepared foods, and sweets. I could seriously eat one of everything from the sweets counter. The store itself is quite small, and you will maintain your sanity if you shop during off hours.

Let me preface this by saying I've gone to Doris' on and off for years ~ even prior to this location. I was extremely disappointed by two things -- yes the meat is overpriced but I am not one to cut corners for quality. I was standing at the meat counter...and I guess I need to say that loosely because one second it is filled-- everyone is getting helped and then poof everyone is gone. This is my issue - I was number 58...so the "lady" rattles off a few numbers..stands far away by the hot food section and stops at 56 and disappears...The irony..she moves the number que to 61....As I stand there. Did I mention that when they started rattling off numbers again it was from a separate counter....and no one was there that had the courtesy to ask if I needed assistance. Then I get to the register to pay and to my mortification I had my co-workers card which was a mix up during lunch time...so the polite lady yells "SHE CAN'T PAY!" not once did she wait 2 seconds for me to sort my thoughts...I guess Doris' doesn't take checks....At that moment I had to exit....Two seconds and maybe I would've been more motivated to go and get my purchases which I really wanted. But, I took it as a sign that maybe I should continue going to Whole Foods. At least everyone welcomes you with a smile there. I think I need to try another location -

Love love love! Love the produce section, meat counter and bakery! Everyone's so friendly and the store is always clean!

I love this market. I am sure that compared to Italian markets in NY or Italy, this is the best here in South Florida. Doris offers a bewildering array of modern Italian groceries. Doris carries an impressive range of meats! You will find reasonably priced fresh meat and poultry. They have an amazing EXTRA LARGE hot dog that is too die for! They are constantly having specials. Their ground beef is also one of my favorite things here at Doris. Please make sure not to leave without trying some of their pastries, treats, cookies, or fresh bread! Also if you are not in the mood too cook, you can pick up food by the pound too! They have a large selection of hot food to choose from, not to mention the salad bar which is a pretty large selection of anti pastas. What I loved is that Doris prepares their own pastas, sauces, foods and freeze it and sell it. You can do like me and pretend you did it when you have guests at home! J/K I only did that with the rice! In conclusion, if you are around Sunrise or Sawgrass and what to stop by to pick up a quick take-me-home dinner, then you MUST stop by Doris's@
(5)Roland S.
Come for the fresh produce and stay for the fancy desserts. A nice little market with a full butcher's counter, a selection prepared foods, a salad bar, and a bakery/pastry case. They have a nice little selection of Italian wines, too. This is one of those places that is busy because of the quality of the merchandise.
(5)Johnny L.
Every Thursday, Doris' Italian Market produces specials online and in the Sun-Sentinel newspaper. I agree with some of the previous reviews, the specials on fresh produce, cold cuts and other items is priced right sometimes. The desserts are to die for (especially the mini-babas!) and we always finish it with a delicious Lavazza espresso! My family loves this place!

After over 10 years of living in the U.S. I had yet to find a place that reminded me of home (Europe). Well, this place brought all those memories back. This small speciality supermarket is amazing! A few things that stood out to me: 1) Their fruits and vegetables were fresh and the prices were definitively right. 2) If you are looking for that special espresso roast, be certain to pass by here. They even sell KIMBO coffee. You usually do not find that in stores here but its a very good Italian espresso roast and trust me, worth a try. 3) You will find any kind of pasta shape, color and variety in aisle 2. If you are looking for whole wheat lasagna. Yup, they got it! They even have maccaroni pasta - that you almost never find in a chain supermarket. 4) If you are looking for amazing Italian cakes and pastries and you are free to cheat on that day, this is the place to visit. Unfortunately, it was not my cheat day but the memories keep the dream alive for a future visit. Can't wait! 5) Their fresh meet and fish selections looked amazing as well, and I will have to explore that a bit more next time around. Otherwise, the supermarket is a must for anyone in visiting the area. It's small, cozy and has charm. I love it!

Regardless of the other reviews, the fact remains... Doris' is WAY pricey. There is no shame in saying that, their goods will cost a little more; the key to this tidbit of honesty is... IT IS TOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE! I still remember when they used to have the store in Plantation right by my house, I miss that convenience. When they opened the new store in Sunrise they closed the one in Plantation, so now my trips are no longer of the weekly variety! I went yesterday for the first time in a while as I was out of semolina flour (I make my own pasta from time to time and Doris' always has it in stock). Around Christmas time we drop a load of cash at Doris', simply because there are a few deli items they make that I just can't do as well (fruit de mer and calamari salad...KILLER). Also, if you haven't tried it yet, get a pound of their chicken salad. My Wife and I have joked for years that they must put crack in it because it is so addictive you'll blow right through the entire pound! Again, Doris' is totally worth the prices they charge and if you haven't been there... go there :)
(5)Melissa C.
Expensive but worth it. Last minute dinner party? Get to this place quick! They have yummy dinners that are pre made. Just heat and serve. And they are homemade. Yummmmmy
(5)Heidi M.
Great Market !! Anything from pastries to butcher /deli fresh and clean.
(5)John H.
They have the FRESHEST FOOD here! It is better, fresher, organic, and friendlier than any Whole Foods, or Fresh Market around, hands down! I will come here every couple of days to grab more fresh foods, just enough for 2 days or so, I love going back to find more treats. Btw, their meats are AMAZING!!
(5)Ben G.
What more is there to really say? Place is an A+!!! Doris's is as close to perfection as you can get. Bravo.
(5)Jorge M.
Closing early is an understatement. I casually walked in there with about half an hour to close and to my surprise the employees were actively covering up all the fruits and vegetables. This place usually has pretty good customer service but they're closing procedures need to change. I was able to pick up a few tomatoes and a few onions but everything else was already covered up. One of the employees even whipped out the sprinkler and started watering some of the vegetables. To top it all off I was followed to my car by an employee and had my shopping cart taken before I could even take my last bag out.The produce department is the only reason I drive 20 to 25 minutes to this supermarket and drive past the other six supermarkets on the way there.

I feel like I live at this market..it feels like home. Doris Italian Market reminds me of the stores up north. My family in South Philly are Sicilian American and I used to be so jealous of their neighborhood stores...not anymore, I have my very own down here in South FL! Their produce is always fresh and cheaper than going to Publix. I love their sausage, it's my secret ingredient to my Gravy (pasta sauce!). They always have specials on their meat, which is also very fresh. You can also find Prosciutto di Parma here (amazing!). I recently got an order of Stone Crabs from here, which were to die for. Their Calamari and Mussel salads are so good, I usually pick these up once a week. I love their Pignoli cookies and Sfogliatelles. I can't tell people enough how much I love their staff. First of all, the people behind the meat and seafood counter move very quick. They use a number system and call out your number over the intercom. Shopping up north, I learned to know what I want fast and spit out my order. I've noticed that sometimes people are indecisive and maybe feel like they're being rushed, and seem annoyed. The people behind the counters are by no mean being rude, they're just trying to get everyone quick..and I prefer it that way! I think I see the owners too. There's an older woman, she's very sweet. She walks around and sometimes bags items for customers. I've had staff go out of their way to help me find things, like drop whatever they were doing to find something, then walk around the whole store to find me and bring me whatever it was. Robin and Nancy are my go to ladies at the Cash Register. There was something very familiar about Robin, it turns out she's from Philly =) Nancy is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. She always makes my day.

Viva Italia! Honestly, I love going here because of how neat the store is and sale, Sale, SALE! Even if Publix does that Italian sales, nope I don't want to even discuss about it. Well, I'll say it, the prices in Publix is what the !@$&!!! but in this store makes me want say "ti amo Doris!" Most of time, I like how the Vegetables and Fruits or the produce is crisp, sweet and fresh. Rarely, I buy sweets but their cakes and desserts are so yummy in my tummy. Even though I'm not wine person, sometimes on occasions their wine selections is simple but have well stocked varieties. The prices are so fair and cheap, the store may be small but you'll get used to it, hopefully. I think it's cute that they have Italian miscellaneous items at the front near the cashier area. Makes me feel as if I was in Little Italy. I love that employees wearing caps it's so Italian.
(5)Stephanie M.
Incredible meat selection and a great selection of produce, desserts, and more. The lunch options are plentiful regardless of diet. Soup, salad, hot case, and subs are available and never disappoint. With a fully stocked bakery case, great wine selection, and more Doris has it all... for all of us.
(5)Anthony R.
I live near the Doris Italian Market in Coral Springs. I will travel to Sunrise for this place. It is a larger more modern store with a great selection of items. Worth the trip.
(5)Esther B.
I have been shopping at Doris' for years. They are a very complete market. Meats, fish, produce, prepared foods, bakery, salad bar, and grocery items. While I do stick to Publix for the regular, day-to-day items which are less expensive there, I do not mind paying a little more for the hard to find, specialty items. My strategy here is that every time I come in, I try to find something that I have never tried before. More often than not, I pick a winner. Doris' is also one of my go-to spots for when I need dinner and have no time to cook. (ok, fine, when I get too lazy to cook). I love the large selection of prefared foods. Buy a little of a bunch of different items, and you have yourself a mini buffet and a happy family. Don't forget dessert, but good luck deciding! You know? I could really go for a rainbow cookie right now!
(5)Kelly W.
Have been going to Doris' for about 17 years and we all love it. Food is always fresh and yummy, from the meat, fish, deli, produce, to the bakery. Prices in the bakery are getting a little pricey but it tastes so good we still buy something everytime we go in! Place is clean and the workers are fabulous.
(5)Lauren M.
We love this market!!! Frank in the deli/produce is a doll - what a sweet heart!!! Frank treats his customers with such respect and always puts a smile on my face (and our daughters). Great location, fantastic customer service makes this market a pleasure to go to.
(5)Shari M.
So much yummy stuff here!
(5)Lexi K.
Love Love Love the freshness of the produce! And it is the same prices or better as the big grocery stores! Quaint neighborhood market atmosphere!
(5)Momo B.
The best produce, the best meat and the seafood is awesome. It is hands down better quality and better prices then publix and winn dixie The butchers are also far superior to Publix. The deli and bakery are worth the nightmare experience in the parking lot.
(5)Susan E.
They have a fantastic bakery. Try the chocolate cigars! Chocolate melt away, Danish, etc! Plentiful deli, produce, butcher with chicken, meats and prepared foods. Frozen foods available as well as Italian brands of oils and packaged items.
(5)Roberto B.
If you live in Miami-Dade and love Lorenzo's, do yourself a favor - drive a li'l farther north and experience Doris' - which is cleaner and easier to navigate (aisles wise). The deli counter appears a tad larger too and could rival a Whole Foods for opportunities to buy in variety; I confess to immediately being drawn (and purchasing) both a traditional potato and spinach knish. My-oh-my they were as light as air - the potato knish in fact was like a cross between eating gnocchi with spun cotton candy - so fluffy! Of course they have a great Italian wine collection, some fabulous looking cuts of meat including the real McCoy of Italian sausages and of course a fresh array of veggies. Unlike the Indian restaurant across the mall, Doris can clearly handle their own when it comes to duking it out over which has the better veggie ensemble; but I'd like to think New York Mart and Doris compliment each other; go to the first one for Chinese celery and bok choy; go to the latter for eggplant and basil - it's a total win-win. Unfortunately due to conditions out of my control I am moving away from the neighborhood where Doris is located; but that's OK - I just have to get my Miami-Dade pals another reason to drive up and visit me - but first a little segway over to Doris to peruse some wine and biscotti pretty please!?
(4)Sherry W.
Tonight I went to their holiday wine and food tasting. For $20, one got an italian buffet and multiple wine samplings. plus $10 off a bottle of wine! The store is very clean. The presentation of fruit and veggies is beautiful and high quality.

I love this place and have been coming here since I was a small child. If your looking for quality ingredients, quick pre-made meals, finger licking good deserts, & a taste of Italy then this is a go-to for you. They make their buffalo mozzarella in house (its a must try) along with their bread and deserts. Take a bite into any of the above mentioned and you might think the kitchen is staffed completely by Italian grandmothers because the taste is that of a passed down family recipe. There are a few locations, but I find this one to be my favorite. Its a bit larger that the one in Hollywood and Pembroke Pines. Due to its larger size compared to its sister locations, this has more offerings and the aisles aren't as narrow. During this particular visit I sampled the eggplant rollatini from the pre-made section. Its a thin & long slice of breaded and seasoned eggplant rolled around a generous amount of cheese. I can't say for certain what type of cheese it was but it tasted like a mix of mozzarella and a goat cheese. Regardless, it was absolutely delicious & I will buy a few the next time I go. Anything you sample from the bakery will be sure to please, really, anything. Their cannoli's are especially good. They even offer them chocolate dipped with a optional sprinkle of powdered sugar. So the next time your in the area be sure to stop in.
(5)E M.
First time here and I am part Italian!! lol My mom would love this place, you can tell by the smell when you walk in this is the real deal I just had time for an Italian sub sandwich, but it was one of the bset I have had The seafood, meat and produce all looked awesome, so I will be back soon and write some more Bakery also looked pretty good Only missig rum baba!!
(4)Winston T.
I went here on Friday September 18th 2015. I got two items from the prepared food counter. A cheese arepa for $1.99 and a piece of eggplant parmesan for $7.83. The eggplant parmesan looked really good. However when I ate it, it tasted like a bunch of sawdust in my mouth. They used paper thin pieces of eggplant that I could not taste. The cheese arepa had pieces of clear plastic throughout the entire thing. At first I thought it was from them heating it up in the microwave and the cheese got dried out. But after I got home I looked at the many pieces I spit out and confirmed it was pieces of clear plastic. And the eggplant parmesan had a small piece of hard black plastic in it. It is really shocking that their kitchen could be so sloppy. Not to mention that I felt nauseous after eating those things. The bakery item looked really good. I wonder if there's any plastic in those things!
(1)Tony R.
One more reason to miss Florida( there isn't many) the meats are the best I've ever bought anywhere, the fish is the freshest, the bakery the tastiest and their pre-packaged food is awesome.
(5)Sherry T.
It's close to us when we are at my mother's condo and easy to get great cold cuts or a fast bottle of wine. Never had a complaint or compliment that was worthy of my time writing ... But yet, now I am taking the time. I bought coffee there yesterday morning. My favorite. Lavazza coffee. Tripped on my flip flops and spilled my coffee. Turned right around and the woman said "oh you are back already?" I said yes and explained I tripped and yet was charged again. When we are here, multiple times a year for at least a week at a time, we frequent this place when we don't have time to run to whole foods or publix. Nothing was great. Nothing was bad. But to not refill a customers coffee free of charge when I clearly couldn't have drank it in a minute is ridiculous. I will be in a position to need to go back but will make every effort not to Bad business and made me take a ride home from an amazing dinner to sit in the passenger seat, ignore my husband and children for 5 minutes that this is so ridiculous. This is lesson A in a bad business class (did they go to quack USA to learn good business ethics?). Class title: How to turn a good customer into one who will go out of her way to avoid you. Who will tell many about the event. And who takes precious time to write on yelp PS. Both my husband and I own different companies and while I agree on taking a stand. Seriously. A cup of coffee couldn't be replaced?
(2)Amy Jo A.
Truly Italian in every way. Some really great produce and meats pastas and cheese. Nice people work here and are very service oriented. Ah a breath of fresh air here in SOFLO.
(4)Rosann O.
Hi Jacqueline. I've tried the bakery many times since, again today but you must still be using the new baker. So much for customers effecting change! The customer service and meats cannot be beat but I'm going to have to find a new bakery because I've been told all your stores baked goods come from the same baker.
(3)MICHELLE C.
Just having this place close to our home makes me so happy. This is by far the best Market for deli meats, fresh meats, seafood, bakery, fresh pasta, fruits, veggies and so much more. Being raised in Chicago you really take it for granted that there are so many options for specialty markets such as Doris. The joy that came over me when we drove past the other day and I saw the sign. They have been at this location for five years is what a staff member told me. It is much larger than both other locations. Super clean, so much to choose from. Hubby was interested in checking out the fresh meats, sausages, and fish to do some grilling while of course I walked right over to the wine section. Just two days prior I had gone to Total wine and stocked up. I know what a good price is for wine and they had so many specials on many fine wines. There was a young gentleman (Nick) who asked me twice if I needed help. When I am in my zone wine shopping I need no help. So I meet up with hubby and he has some sausages and other items and I had 8 bottles of wine. When we got to the register I thought hmmm, wonder if they offer a case discount on wine? The young lady said yes so I ran over to easily grab four more bottles to get a 10% discount. Again Nick was in the wine section and he laughed watching me quickly grab four awesome bottles of Italian wine. He said 'You know what you like and you picked some great wines". He was so sweet he came over and spoke with us at the checkout and asked for my email to sign me up for wine tasting's and he also mentioned they might put together a wine society. Umm, oh heck yes sign me up!! Service is excellent here!! The quality of all the fresh foods, decent prices, and an amazing bakery with some nice looking cakes and specialty items. This by far is my absolute favorite market. Ciao, see you very soon!
(5)Dianna T.
This is one of my favorite grocery stores. It is small but everything is very fresh. They have a lot of ready made food which is all amazing. They have the best tomato soup I have ever had!
(5)Kenny R.
For a small market, Doris is my favorite. I most often come here for cannolis, but I've also purchased meat and other items in the past. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There is ample parking, and it is easy to get in and out fast.
(4)Mariam D.
Fellow foodies take note- an Italian lovers paradise found! Enter to find a clean, bright, well-organized grocery store with a healthy selection of fruits and veggies. A full meat shop and seafood section along with a seemingly mile-long selection of deli items, cheese, wine, meatballs, eggplant parm, a handsome spread of ready-to-eat sides and salads, soups, a sub menu, and a bakery that will satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. I ordered a prosciutto sub for lunch with mozzarella, tomato, and sweet peppers and it was delicious along with the cannolis I bought for dessert. Doris spices up my food shopping experience, so i'll gladly make the trek west to shop this specialty grocer.
(4)Ashley D.
It is a comfortable atmosphere and very quaint. The bakery is amazing!! My cousin has been wanting a cannoli so I went and got them and they were to die for! The best I have ever had!! The prices on top of it were great, definitely will go back again!
(5)Hikaru N.
I spend a fair amount of time at Whole Foods and Publix, but with Italians in town, I started asking some of my friends if there were any Italian markets nearby. Fortunately, one of my friends recommended this little market. From coffee, pasta, sauces and the meat selection, Doris is very good. You can find pretty much everything. However, the only reason I give 4 and not 5 stars is that there are certain things like certain spices, sugar and dairy with limited selection. That being said, who cares! Also, as someone who spends a lot of time in Italy, I absolutely love the slighty old/rustic feel and the words in both Inglese e Italiano.
(4)Gary S.
Doris has the best subs you will get anywhere. Had the chicken parm the other day delicious. Had the italian a while ago delicious. This store has a deli to die for. The fish and meats counter is excellent. Also all the rest of the stuff in the store is great.
(5)Mary L.
Picked up a cake and some fennel sausage today - the selection was amazing. This store is beautiful, and even though it was packed, all of the employees were so helpful and friendly. Both the cake and the sausage were delicious. I love shopping here.
(5)Steve B.
My mom turned me on to Doris & mother DOES know best...I custom ordered a birthday cake which I recommend doing because they bake it that night...The cake was amazing, everyone at party raved about it & it was less costly than Publix...They use fresh whipped cream & mousse in the cake & 'yum' is all I can say...The produce is always spot on & reasonably priced...They do get crowded with the silver haired crowd from Sunrise Lakes so negotiating that cart through traffic might be your greatest challenge...My mom makes Italian sauce & she says they have all the right brands..Oh, and the staff is friendly & helpful...If you haven't gone there, what are you waiting for?...If you love sfogliatelle, run don't walk to the bakery & try it...You'll be back for more...
(5)Katie L.
Great market with some great prices. To get the best bang for your buck you need to know comparable prices at other grocery stores. Since I go to Publix almost everyday I knew which produce was cheaper at Doris' and which ones were a rip off. But with the right knowledge, you can save $1-2 per produce at Doris'. The staff are all super energetic and friendly. I love seeing the banter between the deli guys and the customers. All in all it's a pleasure shopping at Doris.
(4)E J.
This place is amazing and so affordable. I have a big sweet tooth and came across this bakery inside the market, while running errands in the area. I wanted to do my groceries here too! Everything tastes great and the bakery has quite the selection. Next time I'm in Ft.Lauderdale I'll definitely be stopping here again.
(5)Nicole V.
I have been going to Doris' for years. I usually pick up pastries for my grandparents since they are from Italy. My grandmother loves the rum balls and my grandfather is a sucker for a good cannoli or eclair. I tend to over order but everything in the bakery is wonderful! Everything in the store is fresh. The produce section is beautiful and when I'm not in the mood to cook, the prepared food section is my go to spot. Also, I use a lot of olive oil in my cooking due to my Italian background and Doris' has the best selection and prices in town on olive oil!
(5)Anyelina L.
I love this super market, especially their bakery! the best napoleons I have ever had! their cookies and other pastries are great. I was becoming addicted to them and had to stop, was gaining too much weight! I like they have the best and real marsala wine! and they sell 4 oranges for $1 which I think is reasonable compare to publix that are so greedy. Their organic chicken has reasonable price too, but if you are going to buy seafood, I would suggest to walk in the same plaza and go to the chinese super market and buy the seafood there, much cheaper!
(4)Robert B.
