By far the best sushi in the area. I am from NYC originally and adore sushi, and this place is superb. Their kids' dishes (chicken tempura particularly) are huge and cheap and my kids always gobble them up. I've been here half dozen times and never been disappointed.

Sake selection was great but a tad expensive. The sushi was mediocre at best. I have eaten at many sushi restaurants and this one doesn't seem to offer anything special.

Kazu is the best little sushi restaurant in the area. Boasting an amazing variety of sake, authentic Japanese cuisine, fresh and generously portioned sushi at extremely reasonable prices, this is a place we are happy to frequent on a weekly basis. Owner and sushi chef Kaz takes obvious pride in his establishment. It's a fairly small space, but very tastefully and elegantly decorated, with the end result being a cosy but buzzing ambiance. If you're a regular, you can get in on the frequent special occaions where the restaurant is closed for private sake tasting events, always popular and well worth it. You won't find a better sushi experience on the Treasure Coast. To those saying that the prices are similar to other sushi restaurants, I'd like to ask where else you've been for sushi. I've been to many sushi restaurants in Stuart, Jupiter and PB Gardens, and Kazu is the best value by far. An order of nigiri sushi at Kazu consists of two pieces and typically ranges between $4-6, depending on the kind of fish. Many other restaurants we've been to in the area charge that much for a single piece of sushi, and the piece of fish you get is half the size.

What a find ! If you can get over the strip mall location, the sushi is great. Well priced, great service.
(4)Vanessa G.
Lobster Avocado salad was great! I also got spicy tuna w masago on the outside....awesome!
(5)Thomas S.
Besides having the best sushi in town, Kazu has the best Sake bar too. A wide variety of different types to choose from which will satisfy your desire to try something new. The sushi is fresh and prepared by a true chef.
(5)Tomas H.
Excellent sashimi, sake was awesome!!!! Service wasn't consistent- odd- I came in right before they were closing with 25 minutes to spare - to an empty restaurant. I was reminded that the restaurant was closing soon (after I ordered as to remind me that I should eat quickly)- that didn't bother me because I eat sashimi faster than most Asians... What did bother me was being charged for an item I never got... Next time I'm definitely combing over the bill here.

Kazu is the real deal. The owners are Japanese. The restaurant is clean and lit well. They are small and when busy service can be slow from an American perspective. I notice that the people making negative comments about the food are exclusively Gaijin. The most they will say is "I am from ...." I have a Chinese wife and I have spent a good bit of my life outside the US. The US does NOT set the standard for Sushi quality although there are a few New York and LA/SF based Sushi places that are world class. I have yet to see one that competes with a good Japanese sushi restaurant (that is, in Japan). I have read reviews of excellent Chinese restaurants here on Yelp where the negative comments are by people who really don't know REAL Chinese food. I feel the negative reviews here are the same. This being said the quality of the Sushi in Kazu is excellent. The chefs are responsive and the sizes are appropriate. The cost is less than that of most good sushi restaurants. As I said, from the perspective on an American the service can be slow but it is certainly world standard. Well Recommended.

This is our favorite spot for sashimi! The fish is always fresh, the goyza (pork dumplings) are amazing, and the soba noodle bowl is devine! It's a small place, and seems to get a lot of business around 6:45pm. If you don't want to wait, go before 6:45pm. Went once for lunch & probably wouldn't go back since the service was terribly slow. Can't go wrong with the beef tataki, summer roll, ika sansai, or anything else on the menu. We love it!
(5)Mark D.
Delicious sushi. Plenty of specialty rolls that left our taste buds buzzing. Even was offered a free dessert of tempura fried cheesecake (mmmm). Highly recommend!
(5)Daniel M.
Always enjoyable with good service and excellent food. Try it for yourself!

While on vacation my husband and I decided that trying sushi on the East Coast was a must! I yelped and found this place. Boy. What a waste of time. Walked into a small cracker box type of establishment and waited for.ev.er to have our drink order taken. Once she came back with the drinks the waitress asked if we had any questions. Which I did because I like jalapeños and soy paper..their menu didn't offer either. So I asked do you serve any rolls with jalapeños? "Nope. We don't." Oh. Okay. Well how about soy paper? "Nope we don't offer that either." She was cut throat and real quick to let me down. Seeing as I'm not a reaaaaaal sushi eater, I hate seaweed. I hate rude waitresses more. Therefore, we walked out. Went down the street to Sachi Sushi. Which offered both of the things I wanted, in a friendly and beautiful environment. I'm moving to Stuart shortly. A sushi place is mandatory. Kazu blew it.

we eat here on a weekly basis. We both order a double green salad and could eat two of those each bc they are GREAT. I get 2 california rolls with brown rice and cream cheese and my wife orders 2 spicy tuna rolls with brown rice and cream cheese. This is one of the only places that do not give us a hard time about the brown rice and it is the best place we have found when we base our sushi on being fresh!!! I love this palce and we always have the same sweet waitress that we love!!! The entire staff is friendly and my new favorite spot is at the end of the bar to watch the chef's bc they create incredible food, quickly!
(5)Jonathan V.
Best sushi on the treasure coast, excellent taste and fresh fish. Very clean and neat restaurant. Kazu has a wide verity of saki along with their great verity of Japanese food. Go there, you will really enjoy it. Sit and that bar and watch some very skilled chefs prepare your sushi.
(5)Daniel L.
The sake selection is large - but I am not discriminating enough to know the difference. It's like having ten different bottles of ketchup in front of you. At the end of the day its just a component part of the meal and if you don't spit it out, then it's good enough to do the job. An otherwise completely average, completely acceptable sushi place. Nothing was amazing but then again nothing was worth insulting either. I would say dressy+ rather than casual-ish as my two cents.
(2)Uncle Mike M.
No doubt Chef Kaz and Chef Kudo rock when it comes to classic Japanese prepared sushi!!! I'm lucky to have known Kazu prior to his opening Kazu and have been a regular customer since day one. Hands down - Kazu is #1 in town. By far, the biggest & best Sake selection I've ever seen.
(5)Alicia Q.
First night in Stuart after a few years visiting and was trying to find a good place for sushi. Though there was a list, each had its pros and cons. Gave this one a try. Moderately priced, but not quite the quality of fish I was looking for to curve my craving. And I didn't understand what every speciality roll had cream cheese? Not what I consider true sushi, especially on the Treasure Coast. Disappointed.
(2)Sheyna S.
I can't recall the service ever being bad here, it stinks that people have had bad experiences because this is hands-down the best sushi I've had in Florida and the prices are really reasonable. It's a very small place and they get pretty busy so maybe that's why the service is sometimes hit or miss.
(5)Shawn B.
Small dining room, but ordered the dragon roll with brown rice and house Saki, and it was excellent...
(4)Bub J.
Used to be good. They now rely on that reputation and have a crazy arrogant attitude and poor food. Our $50 sushi special had little variety and tasted off the mark. Like it was old fish, not fresh. Turns out you can NOT speak to a manager or the owner if you have an issue Rather, you will be berated by Corrine that the problem is with you! Pass it by and find a new place that will actually care about the qualith of food and be happy to have you as a customer.
(1)S B.
Went here because I was told their sushi was excellent and prices reasonable. I found neither to be true. Typical sushi restaurant pricing. The hamachi neck appetizer tasted a day past its prime, my hand rolls were served to me with soggy seaweed, probably after waiting too long for the waitress to pick them up. No option to deal with the sushi chef directly to avoid this was offered, despite sitting at the sushi bar.. Never saw a smile on either of the sushi chefs faces the entire hour that I was there. There are definitely better places to go if you want to pay normal high prices for sushi.

went to kazu last week, based solely on the reviews ive read. took a date. place is quaint, and was on a wait, but not bad. got seated, looked at the menu, but wasn't very impressed with the lack of creativity regarding the specialty rolls. nothing really stood out, so we ordered a couple rolls and a appetizer to share. was a little surprised that they only had one selection of either white or red wine. the house, but it was ok. the food came, it was just barely average, and the rolls were small. especially for the price. we decided we needed to order one more roll, and the one with the grilled salmon on top sounded best. it came out, and we started in on it. i thought it tasted kind of odd, so i peeled away the salmon on top. to my shock, i found that it wasnt even salmon meat, it was just the fat! when they charred it, it melted the fat right down into the rest of the roll and saturated it with grease. this left an awful aftertaste in both of our mouths, and just never sat right afterwards. we express our concern to the waitress, and that this was unacceptable, however all she could say was sorry and did nothing about it. they left it on the bill, which was right at 100.00 for 4 glasses of wine, three rolls and a appetizer. not terribly expensive, but not a great deal even if the food was good which it was not. i wont be going back.
(1)PJ M.
Great Sushi Place. Small restuarant but great atmosphere. Loved the Little Boat the our entree Rolls were served on. Only complaint is that they need a better wine selection!
(5)Barney C.
This place is tiny, the food is very good, and they get the details right, like the saki cups, which look like fine hand-made pottery. There was a wait for tables (the bar was full too) on a Thursday afternoon in August, which is crazy for off season, even the local Outback doesn't have that problem, so get there early!
(5)Marcus F.
Great sushi and an amazing selection of premium sake! Service is acceptable. Friendly waiters that remember us. I would probably say its the best sushi in Stuart. We will be returning.
(5)Lee S.
Ignore the strip mall surroundings! Inside is pure Japan. Excellent fresh fish at great prices. Inventive menu. Tasteful decor and Japanese beer and saki! Interesting Japanese plates and proper glassware add to the interest and raise the level of dining. Wide selection of Japanese dishes including Sushi and Sashimi. Definitely a Mom and Pop type place with this much attention to detail. They don't mind special requests or changes. A good place to impress a date, bring a group or teach the kids all about Sushi! Frequented by locals and Japanese visitors says this place is consistently good.

Japanese food served traditionally and as it should be is much more elusive rather than readily available these days. Most fusion places can't even entice me in the door. For many years I had a close friend who was a highly trained Japanese chef from Japan so it is hard to fool me. As my followers know I am a staunch Vegan--see more on this in my review of Fruits and Roots--and so you are probably asking yourself, "What the heck is she reviewing a sushi bar for? This is no run-of-the-mill disappointing fusion nonsense. This is a real Japanese restaurant with authentic flavors, high quality food, genuine décor and traditional atmosphere. I have taken all sorts of eaters here: fellow vegans, sushi freaks and people who hate fish. Everyone loves it! I am sure you will also. Please keep in mind that for this review, I am writing as my vegan self. Thanks for understanding all of you fish and flesh eaters. No worries, I promise all of the friends I have like you are always very pleased. So, you must go do your own research and writing. Thank you for understanding. Now for my Vegan friends; there are several items on the menu you are going to love! Anything involving spinach is bright and fresh in the traditionally steamed and pressed format with a delectable sesame paste sauce. The asparagus and avocado are always perfect. Both lunch and dinner menus have a vegetarian special with tasty seaweed salad and a variety of vegetable nigari and maki styles of sushi. These are all Vegan! Be sure to try the lotus root appetizer. It is crunchy and has a subtly addictive sauce. Kazu--who happens to be the owner--imports a variety of teas that are the best cups in town. You can take a box home with you if you like. I love the Genmai Cha. It is a roasted rice and green tea blend known to promote good dreaming. The wasabi and pickled ginger are always fresh and the right level of strong. They even have wheat-free soy sauce. I insist you give this a try because the vegetables are all gorgeous and the service is excellent. For the longest time this was the only restaurant I trusted in the Stuart area. Thank goodness it was here then and still is. I remain a loving and grateful devotee.
(5)Brooke O.
Decided to try the place one night. The server wasn't very good but the sushi was awesome!!! Went back a second time and had a great server and the sushi was also very good
(4)Jessica Q.
Very small place but the food was outstanding. I had the dragon roll and rainbow roll for lunch and it was a perfect meal best sushi I've had on a while compared to other places. It looked and tasted great, I look can't wait to go back!!
(4)World T.
So glad we found this restaurant. I could practically live off of sushi, so if you're like me and you love a good roll, this is the place to visit! It's a little small, but worth the squeeze. It's authentic. The staff is great. We were seated immediately, and the wait time for food was not bad at all. Highly recommend!
(5)rehpotsirhc g.
We've been to a lot of Japanese Restaurant. This one is Definitely one of the good ones around this area Authentic & Affordable.
(5)Krystle S.
This is definitely the best sushi spot on the Treasure Coast. The owners are friendly and always provide great service. For appetizers go for the agedashi tofu or tuna tataki. For rolls the kanpyo roll is the best, and this is one of the few sushi restaurants that serves kanpyo (a type of Japanese gourd).
(5)Chris R.
Place is a tad small for the demand but that's not a bad thing for a business owner to have a wait. Just be patient and have a beer, wine or sake. Went with my son and feel I knew the sushi chef. I believe he was from the Sakura when Tony owned it. - can anyone confirm. We had a good traditional sushi meal. As we have been eating sushi for quite some time, learned from our Japanese friends, and eat items usually off the menu. The waitstaff are a bit "vanilla" and ours was new. We sat at the sushi bar made it easier to communicate those items. We will return but there are other places that are equal to quality and accommodate more people at dinner service if you need to seat more than 4 with about an hour to dine.

Came here on a recommendation from my father-in-law when he was down in Florida for vacation. He claims that this is the best sushi place he's ever been to. The sushi itself being one of the best he's ever had. Man, was he ever wrong. Surprising, because he's eaten at the top places in the northeast. The nigiri sushi itself was poorly constructed. The fish, hardly preserved. Platters only had standard sushi fishes - tuna, salmon, fluke. No white tuna, barely any yellowtail. Even the California rolls were made incorrectly. Below average at best. Nothing authentic about it either. What's even crazier is that the udon used Lo-mein noodles. What the heck? A japanese cannot possibly own this place. Beef teriyaki was strange with a really odd watery sauce. Meat seemed to be cut strangely. The only seemingly good thing about this place is the REALLY large sake menu. Which now that I think about it, is probably the reason why my father-in-law loves this place so much. A little lubrication can go a long way. Haha. I would probably only come back for a drink.
(2)William R.
There is not much to complain about but the wait and take out is not recommended. Really fresh fish expertly handled with a huge sake selection. I have also had the best tempura miso soup here and usually that's just an after thought for most places. My take out experience wasn't the best. It took over an hour to get our order. So long so they took our phone number and told us to wander around and they would give us a call when our food was ready. When we picked up our order the colds were stacked with the hots so on the drive home everything got warm. We had to toss the sushi in the freeze for a bit to get it back to a comfortable raw fish eating temperature. So dine in always - take out not again.
(4)Kay G.
On the way to go to Miami, we found this place. It was surprisingly good and authentic. We ordered sushi, sashimi and katsudon dinner. Everything was fresh and good. We particularly liked katsudon; it tasted like a real thing. The kind you get only in Japan!! We will definitely go back to this place when we drive again on I-95.
(4)Liotta L.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to eat here. We walked in at 2:01 (literally) and were told they were closed. Even though people were in there eating AND I had called ten minutes earlier to ask for help locating them because we were lost in a sea of strip malls. I mean, really--ONE MINUTE after 2 pm? (It also bears mentioning that Yelp said they were open through dinner.). I guess they must be doing really well if they turn away business so easily.
(1)Eaton C.
Authentic Japanese. Try either of the dragon rolls. Friendly staff. They can get jammed but be patient. The sushi is well worth it.
(5)Mei L.
I'm on a strict 'no rice' health program and we asked our waitress if the Kazu chef who was working this evening would have been kind enough to make our sushi and hand rolls without any rice and she said absolutely since they have regular customers who come in and ask for no seaweed on their sushi so it was doable. So, it looks like we will be coming here more often from now on to soothe our sushi cravings. Although, I must say that the presentation on the sushi does need some work. The seaweed sheet looked old and when I tried to mix my wasabi with soy sauce, it also seemed old and did not blend too well, otherwise the sushi and hand rolls were pretty delicious. Thank you, Kazu for being wonderful and assisting! :-)
(4)Veronica V.
I've never been disappointed with this place. I've eaten here almost a dozen times. Their sushi is always good, and it's top notch for this area. I come here a lot and order just a miso soup or a salad with a sushi roll. The fish is always fresh tasting. I like the spider and rainbow roll. I've also had their seafood ceviche and it was really really good. The flavor of the lime dressing is good, and doesn't over power the taste of the seafood. I've tried their gyoza and enjoyed that as well. The place is very nice looking and clean, however it is small so expect a cozy dining experience. They get packed on the weekends. When I eat here alone though I just walk up to the bar and sit down. Someone always comes right over to me. Or, my b/f and I will take a seat at a table. We both love this place, and really enjoy their food. I've never had bad service here.
(4)Sanford W.
Worst sushi I have ever had. Terrible service too. If I wasn't with guests I would have sent it all back except for the yellow tail which was passable. The toro looked and tasted like an old piece of leather. Wish I could have sent it back. On top of it all sloooow. First bad review I have ever written. This place needs to step up their game.
(1)Bill T.
Surprisingly great place in a strip mall in Stuart! The food here is very good. B/f and I both had the wasabi dumplings for appetizers...so very good. He had a tempura roll and I had one of their special crab rolls and they were both very, good. The rice was really good and the fillings tasted very nice. I've heard the sake selection is here is good, but we both had beer. Service was very friendly and nice. Place was crowded but it's not that big. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. Table near us got one of the boats and that looked like it had a lot of good stuff on it. I would go back. Also, at first I thought this was named after the alien on "The Flintstones" but then someone said that was Gazoo, not Kazu. Would have been incrementally more fun if it was named after the little guy with the big head who used to torment Fred and Barney.

SAVE yourself! Don't waste your time, money and health by eating at Kazu. Service is forgetful and rude. The salmon on the sushi roll was all fat that made the dish greasy. Honestly the rolls weren't that good for the price period. Cost almost $100 for an appetizer, 3 rolls and 4 glasses of house red wine. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who LOVES to give 4 stars! If I could give Kazu a negative score I would of. The down a dirty... The restaurant was very very small. The table next to you is basically dinning with you. Their menu is limited. Two wines Red and White, that's it. They have very few choices for rolls. Service was horrible. We ordered 3 rolls and got 2. When we got our third roll that had charred salmon on top we ended up with charred fat that saturated the whole roll with grease. When my date said something to the waitress she said Salmon is a fatty fish and we agreed but this was nothing but fat. My fear is that it wasn't even salmon at all. It was pure white through and through. I could only choke down one bite then I got sick and felt like crap for the rest of the night. I was shocked that the waitress didn't offer any assistance she did forget about one of our rolls and we shown her the fat roll and yet she dismissed us. Guess the language barrier works out for her. I am new to this area and I guess my hunt for rolls is still on. To help you out a little.... as a backup I did checkout Benihana's and really enjoyed their food. I ate at the sushi bar so when you go to the bathroom you have to leave a trail of crumbs to find your why back and the drive is a little farther away but WAY worth it!!
(1)Clarissa C.
I'm a regular here for the last 3 years. Tonight happens to be busy. The waitresses have been nothing short of rude. We were asked to order in our first 5 minutes at the table. We ordered appetizers as the waitress walked away from us. She never came back. Tables beside us commented about our not being served. When I attempted to resolve the problem the staff was defensive and the owner unavailable. They offered to take my order in the back hallway outside of the kitchen because in their infinite wisdom finally taking an order when a member of the party is indisposed is when to do it. It's a shame really. I guess they do not understand today's economy and that treating people poorly is not acceptable when dining out. We came when the house was full. Now there are 4 other tables, but still no food. They just lost a regular.
(1)Oscar A.
I went to this place 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Awesome sushi, excellent priced, and is a definitely recommended to those who are looking for a nice atmosphere and as mentioned awesome sushi
(5)Karen L.
This is our favorite sushi place. Small, but very cute and the food is excellent! Must try the avocado and lobster appetizer. It's to die for!
(5)cranky o.
It is the best sushi in town these days. But not the best sushi I've ever had. Locals love it as it has become somewhat of an institution. Good service, Intimate setting, and solid food with a menu that isn't overwhelming. Maybe I am giving an extra star here due to sentimentality or maybe I am just a local with stunted taste buds. At any rate I heart Kazu.
(4)Davis R.
Hands down the best sushi restaurant in the area. The sushi is always presented beautifully and prepared carefully. Chef is polite and the staff is welcoming and very accommodating. Kind of small, but definitely not cramped. Can be a bit loud at times, but the food and service make up for it. If sushi isn't your thing I would definitely recommend the Udon noodles with tempura shrimp, if I wasn't such a fiend for good sushi I would order that every time I come here. A good option if you are into many different kinds of sushi is to ask for the chef's choice, which won't disappoint the discerning sushi enthusiast. Would highly recommend to everyone!
(5)Amy P.
First let me say the sushi is really good. The wait staff on the other hand, leaves something to be desired. Our waitress took forever to get refills on our drinks and left us sitting at our table for 30 minutes without clearing our plates, refilling our drinks or bringing our check. When my friend said something to her about it she was already walking away and gave us a half assed apology over her shoulder. There are plenty of other great sushi restaurants around here so we won't be going back.
(2)G N.
Delicious and fresh! Went there with a few friends for the first time last week. Prices were extremely competitive and service was very friendly and fast. Had a salmon dragon roll and baked eggplant appetizer. Dragon roll was out of this world! Super fresh-tasting, plenty of pieces, and an overall delicious combination. The eggplant was also good, but the miso glaze was a bit too rich for an already rich-tasting vegetable. Light soy sauce would have been just right, but I will definitely try one of their other appetizers next time. There were lots of choices on the menu. So glad I tried Kazu!
(4)Patricia C.
Such great food and service! I have a favorite place in Ny that I go to but thanks to my wonderful boyfriend he found this place. The rolls were fresh and delicious. The Saki was very good. If your undecided as to what type of Saki to get just ask. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I will definitely visit this establishment again while in the area.
(5)Randy M.
Went there for lunch in mid July 2013 and was kinda disappointed. First, the place is small, it seats 30-40 including about 10 at the sushi bar. I wanted to make a couple modifications to a roll (willing to pay extra) and this seemed to bug the server (I got a big fat sigh from her), so I told her I would order the roll without any changes. No big deal, but "F" them for irritating me about the change. Next, the food took a long time. The server apologized about 15 minutes after order, but we were not in a rush, so again, no big deal. food was decent, but not memorable. Overall, the place was small, clean, pretty nice, and the food is ok. Im still looking for that awesome sushi place in Stuart area, this isn't it for me.
(2)Chelsea B.
This is definitely the best Japanese food around. My significant other and I have rotated through the menu, and have yet to find one thing we didn't like. Kazu and his employees really know how to treat customers, and they recognize us every time and offer us the same seat. The fish is so fresh and delicate, and the tea is magnificent. I'm not even a big fan of tea usually but this tea is most definitely my favorite. We often go through a whole pot in 15 minutes. They also have the best Miso soup around. Inside is like little Japan, and the atmosphere is amazing. We were so happy to stumble upon this place, because we were displaced after our other favorite, Koi, closed and sold out to Siam Orchid, which is an awful place. That's for another review, though.
(5)Richard E.
I'm a regular customer staff always remembers my favorite saki . Shrimp tempura lunch especially good Recommend for food & atmosphere, staff most obliging.
(5)Jeffrey M.
Best sushi in South Florida! Great food, great drinks and great atmosphere. If you like classic sushi cuisine this is the place for you.
(5)J R.
I'm a sushi snob, and this is a great place. I go here at least once a week. Super fresh fish, and great sushi rice. Unlike others they use real crab and wild salmon. Go casual or dressy. I love the large sashimi portions. If you're not into raw fish that much try the gyoza, Fuji Yama, and Kazu rolls. Sake is delish also!!
(5)Buck N.
Best sushi in Stuart hands down. My wife and I are big sushi fans, but before Kazu we'd drive down to WPB to find decent Japanese (and get away from all the Thai/sushi places here). But all that changed with Kazu. Great service, great atmosphere, and most of all, great sushi. Plus an extensive sake list! Can't beat it; at least not in Stuart.
