For fast food BBQ and Florida this place is a shining star. First off. The salad bar is the highlight of this place. What a great selection of things. The smoked chicken salad is amazing. The BBQ is really good, many many selections. Nothing will disappoint. As far as price it's a little past the middle but far from expensive. I'll be back. The dry ribs were awesome.

Sonny's is normally so so in my book but it seems to be the place stark goes for dinner and the service is better

It's Sonny's never been to a bad one. This particular one in a half way point for our motorcycle rides. As we love to try new places while we ride, Sonny's is an everyone's favorite!! Need a cup holder on the bike for that AWESOME Sweet Tea!

Waited 30 minutes for a table, and we have been sitting here for 40 minutes after placing our order and still have not gotten anything but our drinks. We ordered the salad bar and have not even been given plates. Ridiculous. No excuse.
(1)Wendy H.
I ordered the brisket and ribs they were both very good. Delaina took my order she was very friendly and was helpful on helping me with the menu. They have an awesome salad bar and TV through out the restaurant
(4)Courtney S.
Excellent service and the food was good too. Sit down or take out will get you what you want. We shared the Sonny's Sampler. Ribs were my favorite part along with the corn bread and corn on the cob.

This is by far the best Sonnys! The food has so much more flavor and is cooked fresh! The service is great, waitresses for the most part are really sweet and helpful!

As far as Sonny's go, this is a standardly decent one. I believe they just renovated a few years ago as I remember this one as having previously being a bit run-down. The current incarnation of Starke's Sonny's is very nice. Parking has also been extended into the neighboring former Texaco station which closed and which they bought up years ago. The service is great with the well seasoned, experienced waitresses being as kind, polite, welcoming and efficient as they come. You will not find yourself lacking for great service here. The food is strictly standard Sonny's. If you've never eaten at one before, they serve up decent BBQ, good beans, crispy fries (IF! you specially order them "extra-crispy"), slaw (the slaw is great!), etc... Was disappointed to not see any type of greens on the sides menu though. Skip the mac & cheese: it's soupy, bland and the noodles are cooked almost to the point of disintegration. Also, for some odd reason, mustard based BBQ sauce is not present on the table along with their other four varieties; you must ask for it specially. It's pretty good on the pulled pork so make sure you ask for the mustard sauce. This place is probably your best bet for BBQ outside of the independent joints closer to Gainesville, Baldwin or Middleburg, so if you're passing through and are craving BBQ whilst on 301 between your speeding tickets from Waldo and/or Lawtey, I'd say this Sonny's is a safe enough venture with which to satisfy your Q gut-worm.

I've have dined in practically every Sonny's in the southeast. This one is one of the best. We drive 34 miles just to eat here. Only draw back is the cole slaw has lost its appeal. It's too juicy and taste old.
(4)Carlos C.
Best Sonny's location hands down. Food is always fresh and tasty and the staff is usually very friendly and attentive. Love the Sweet n Smokey ribs here. The cornbread is amazing in my opinion. Their mac n cheese is made really creamy and cheesy just the way I like it! The ribs are always very fresh and tender like they were just made, unlike other locations I have been to that seem to serve over cooked or non tender ribs. It is also always very clean and accommodating.
(5)Stace F.
Standard fare food, great service, great tea. I had them cater a VIP event for work. The food was all ready on time, and they gave me everything needed to serve the food. They did an EXCELLENT job of creating fresh fruit trays, vege trays, and the main dishes. We could not complain.
(4)Eliza G.
Absolutely great! Really good food, a very nice waitress, and quick too!! Better than Bullock's in Durham NC. You should stop if you like BBQ.
(5)Genny S.
We have eaten at many sonny's locations in the south and this one is by far the best! Great service and fantastic ribs and pork. Tiara was our server and was terrific.. We got the all you can eat menu and she was attentive and fast . If you love good fresh BBQ and perfect side dishes, Go to Starke Florida sonnys location, you will not be disappointed !
(5)Sue A.
Now this, in my opinion, is a perfect Sonnys experience! Friendly, happy staff with smiling faces. Food that supposed to be hot, is hot, food that is supposed to be cold, is cold, and it all tastes like smokin authentic BBQ should.
(5)Hailey H.
Full service restaurant with take-out window along the side. I don't know why the sonnys in NC don't taste like the ones in FL (well, I have my theories), but luckily I pass this location on my drive down to see the fam and get to stop in. As the others have said, the pork is pretty darn good. pulled or sliced, you'll be happy. Add cornbread, some Mac n cheese, maybe even Texas toast (there are actual vegetables on the menu as well, but why bother... unless it's the fried okra) and it's pretty heavenly. On days when I'm in the mood for something lighter, they have an endless salad bar for $7.99, and for a $1 more you can add on a side of whatever BBQ meat you'd like. I did notice this last time there was one option of diced meat (I guessed brisket) already on the salad bar, but I like mine hot from the kitchen. The salad bar is pretty standard fare - spinach or mixed greens, assorted vegetables and cheeses, potato salad, pasta salad, etc. They have a selection of salad dressings to ladle as well as some individual packets - non fat ranch, vinaigrette, etc. But piled high next to the bacon bits and crackers is the bowl sent from above - the mini sweet potato muffins. So good. I don't care whether they're frozen or freshly baked - I just want to eat the whole lot. Servers are always friendly, really decent lunch specials, beverage cups are ridiculously large, and even though it's a sit-down restaurant I can get in and out and back on the road in pretty good time (even during the peak lunch hours). Thank you, Sonny's.
(4)Jeff B.
This is the best Sonny's I've ever been to, and I've been to many all over from NC to FL. Great BBQ in general and great service.
(5)Emily M.
No customer service...very disappointing. Where is the southern hospitality? Did not really enjoy food or their S#!++y service. Never again!!
(1)Anthony C.
Nice service, clean, cole slaw really good and mac n cheese. Pull pork and corn bread was ok. Best part is that the food is serve really hot and slaw really cold.
(3)Marcie T.
Marcie TT This is a must stop if you are looking for great barbecue and southern hospitality. We had a great lunch on our way to Savannah for a reasonable price and excellent quick service. I highly recommend the pulled pork and macaroni and cheese.
(5)Jennifer B.
Best sonnys ever!!
(5)Orlangela A.
He said..." Last time I went in there I had the pulled pork with mac and cheese. Their pulled pork is as good as it gets the mac and cheese not so much. Being from the South and eating in Florida, this place knows how to bar-b-que...If you want a good Southern barbeque without paying extreme prices then just go here. Besides your in Starke, FL...if you don't like their food just go down the road to the State prison because besides gators and skeeters Starke doesn't offer much else. By the way they just remodeled too after a fire gutted out the place..probably from all that good cookin'" She said..."Sonny's is a really great place to go to if you are in the mood for some BBQ. All their food is pretty amazing but the pulled pork sandwich is one of my favorites, it's very filling and the prices are reasonable. I have to disagree with my boyfriend on the mac and cheese, which is my 2nd favorite thing there. It's pretty thick but it tastes like homemade mac and cheese. The drinks are large enough where you don't have to get a refill. Their service is always fast and friendly, Yay i'm a fan!!
(4)Tiffany G.
Great ribs. Great sweet tea. This is a friendly atmosphere . My favorite meal is the Big Deal. I get mine on garlic bread with smoked turkey ad fried on the side. Very Very good.
(5)Badier V.
For lunch, this place is an absolute steal. I paid $9 including tip and tax for a heaving helping of pulled chicken, cornbread, green beans and a swet potato. The different sauces are quite tasty, my favorite being the Sizzlin' Sweet. Yes, it's essentially fast-food BBQ, but it's still pretty darn good enough for this California boy.
(4)Eric M.
After visiting the Sonny's BBQ locations in Jacksonville and Orange Park, I have to agree this is the best location in NE Florida. The staff are always friendly and the food is delivered correctly and quickly. I have never seen other locations garnish your plate with orange slices or parsley, but this location cares about presentation. The restaurant is always clean and inviting. Each time I have been here, the manager is always visible; either greeting customers or assisting staff. I will keep going back for their sliced pork and chicken.
(5)Kimmie T.
As a Texas girl, I am inundated with BBQ, and while Sonny's isn't the best I have ever had, by far, it certainly held it's own. Their sweet tea was excellent, and I loved that you get the choice of what type of BBQ sauce to experiment with. I have been here twice now, and I have to say that the service is bit disappointing. The first time, it was just so busy that our waitress didn't really notice us much, and the second time a waitress spilled an entire tray (about four or five glasses) of sweet tea and water on my father-in law as she was trying to pass through the crowded isle. Now, I have been a waitress before, and I know god awful things like that happen, but the sad thing was, instead of her being apologetic, and offering a discount or some sort of resolution, she kept saying how embarrassed she was. Over and over how embarrassed she was. Imagine how my dad-in law felt?! Bad bad service. Next time I'm back in Starke, I will suggest we get take out instead :(
