This was my first visit to Tijuana Flats for a late lunch. The vibe was cool and the staff was friendly and helpful in explaining how to order. I had the burrito It came with chips and queso and a soda for like 9 bucks. It was good. There is an expansive "hot sauce bar" with like 15 levels of hotness. I got a small sample from the sauce in the middle of the bar and its was great. They also have the sauces for sale. There is outdoor seating which is nice cause it overlooks a pond.

This is the best Tijuana Flats around...hands down. They always have the friendliest staff! The restaurant is always neat and clean...and well the food...it's always good! Chicken flatuas are delicate flaky goodness from the heavens above!! Yum-o!

Pretty good.. Sauces are alright. I prefer a cabo bobs instead. But if you need good fast food this is a place to definitely consider.

Love this location! The service is always quick and friendly, and the food is delicious! Lots of vegetarian options!

Fun place to stop and grab Mexican food. Service was extremely friendly. Chips and salsa were delicious. The guacamole was fresh and tasty. I wish the queso was the white instead of golden color. It was still tasty. Servings were big and the price was reasonable.

All good here! We go once or twice a month for pick up or dine in. Centrally located for us and the food is consistent. The servers and staff are very friendly, each time we've been we've had great service. One thing about TFlats is that there is plenty of options to try, something for everyone. I'm pretty picky with cleanliness standards and attentiveness and for as busy as they seem everything seemed attended to. PS tried the spicy chicken burrito. Yeah it's really good!! And they have sweet chili sauce in the sauce bar. Weak (in heat level) but so good!

Taco Tuesday! This location was packed for lunch, but our food came out crazy fast. The FOH staff is very friendly and on top of their game. I'm a huge fan of the hot sauce bar mainly because of the wide range of heat and flavors that are available to accent your meal. There is both inside and a huge outside seating area that is perfect for a sunny Florida day.

Extremely friendly staff, great service, good food. Fun wall art to look at. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking & a nice little patio water view.

The food it always up to the established Tijuana Flats standard. Which good, but only worthy of three stars. The staff here is great - especially compared to other "T Flats" locations. Healthy Tip: Get a "norrito bowl" to keep all the flavor, but loose the carbs.

Parking can be a bit ridic if you try to park right in front of the restaurant during lunch hour. I'd advise parking further away and just walking over so you don't get caught up when you're trying to leave as other cars are pulling in and out and also trying to avoid hitting the unobservant people walking around. YUM! I love their hot sauce bar and trying different sauces! I usually do a carnitas burrito. Employees here are crazy friendly. I remember our first time in (and first time to a Tijuana Flats) the hostess explained how the ordering process works and went through the menu with us. Very helpful! Food does not take long to come out and there is plenty of seating inside and out.

This place is always good for a quick tex mex food. Their taco Tuesdays deal is great but it gets pretty packaged during lunch hours. Make sure to check out their hot sauce bar - lots of good sauces homemade by them.

Food is great !! Had the noritto chicken which was awesome and the hot sauces are great queso is the best!!

Saying this food is tex-mex is like saying Panda Express is authentic Chinese... Not that Panda doesn't taste good. I think this food is okay, but the service here is lackluster and the ambience left little to be desired. I felt nervous eating here with my family. I don't even remember what we ordered. Here's what I think... this place is meant for 20-30 something single males to meet up and have serious guy time. This is not a judgement. I liken the atmosphere to "Hooters, but tacos instead of wings". So there is definitely a target demographic. If you fit the demographic, you will enjoy this place. As a married man with 2 kids, I won't be taking my family here ever again.

Their sauces are good their salsa not so much. The server rocked though with high energy.

We love this place! The sauce bar is amazing. I love to get the guacamole, cheese, and salsa. And they have good soda!!! They customer service there is amazing. They are such great people working there and the food is great! What more can you ask for? I'm so happy that we got one close to our house!!! :)

  • Ashley R.

I can't believe people seriously like this food. It isn't tex, it isn't mex, it's crap. I'm pretty sure I would have rather suffered through Taco Bell...or possibly just rather starved. How do they stay open?

  • Danni L.

Love the Norrito Bowl! It's huge and usually good for 3-4 meals. Very tasty and well balanced meal if you're in a hurry.

  • Christy G.

Tijuana Flats never disappoints. Their service is above and beyond. Our young kids are welcomed and they love it. They always seem to be having some promo and they are always willing to help you get what you need. The food is pretty good too. The surprise wow for us is the cookie dough dessert flautas! Just divine. Love this place.

    (5)
  • Chris K.

Just kind of blah. Nothing special about the food or the service...it wasn't bad but there was nothing that will compel me to return either. I had the beef dos tacos...big but short on meat. The wife had a beef burrito which was lacking on overall flavor. Also, the nacho chips were not very fresh or good tasting.

  • Christian M.

For a Tex-Mex chain this place delivers! I particularly enjoyed the chicken enchiladas with the red sauce with a side of rice and beans. Very flavorful! The hot sauce bar is great too since I am huge fan of the spice. The habanero hot sauce is my favorite. Service was excellent, we sat outside and they brought the food out to our table and asked about refills. Will be back again!

Love Tijuana Flats and this is a great location also. Really cool employees who are willing to go out of their way to make you feel at home. The Atom Bombs are, well, the bomb. Their burritos, tacos and chimichagas are all a big hit as well. The best part though is the hot sauce bar where you get to pick how ever many beautifully created sauces that you want. It's definitely an adventure.

Seriously, I'm over these kinds of places - fast food mexican or tex mex....order at the counter........ Hey on Thursday afternoon, I guess it was slow enough, we were invited by the staff to sit wherever we wanted and get table service. That was very cool. And they were all really, really nice. And not so nice that you thought they were trying too hard. Just nice folks. That's really nice to have! I wanted to sit outside, but then the further back into the restaurant, the additional seating inside with all the window views of outside......we sat inside against the windows real close to the HOT SAUCE BAR. So, we had some chips and many kinds of hot sauces served with our salsa, brought over to the table by our server. I didn't care much for the salsa itself, but add a touch of the hot sauce flavor and WOW that was really yummy. I liked best the pineapple hot one and one of the sweet mild ones....wish I could remember their names, but I liked from one end to the other! It took us a really long time to figure out what we wanted. But I finally opted for the NORITA thing....with carnitas (pork). Luckily, I was able to exchange the guac for sour cream and dug right in. The meat was plentiful on either end of the oval shaped plate. Not as much in the middle, but it was fine - there was enough meat overall. The flavors of everything mixed together tasted pretty good. However, when picking out the meat alone with nothing else, it was a little bland. Throughout the entire meal, our server was very attentive, refilled our drinks, all that good stuff you expect to have at any restaurant, but you don't expect it as much at a fast food type spot and am happy with this locations' offerings and most of all, service. I will be back!!

I was craving some Mexican food so decided to try Tijuana Flats which is right across from my apartment. The staffs welcome you right at the door and hand out the menu. You can place a order at the counter and from there they do wait service or you can do takeout. They have military discount! Their hot sauce bar is always fun! They have a nice outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean. The food was fresh and tasty. I especially liked their chips and queso. Their chips are so light and crispy. They also gave us a $5 coupon for a next online order over $20. P.S. They have Taco Tuesday!

I love Tijuana flats and always try to stop when I am in St. Pete. I have gone to this location several times and I usually get take out. My order is always correct. The staff are always warm and inviting. I will definitely continue going to this location.

Love this place! Can't say enough about how great it is. Decently priced food, delicious, quick service, nice staff, clean and in a great location. Only negative is that they get extremely packed during lunch hours on the weekdays.

I don't usually review chains but the service at this particular location is worth reviewing. Today I called in a to go order for 2 burritos and came by to pick them up at 12. Good thing I called ahead because the line to order was out the door. Lucky for me I got to skip the line. The staff here is always warm friendly and efficient. They really go out of their way to make sure your order is right and explain the sauce bar to everyone. Even after now having visited many times, I'm still very impressed with the service here. They make it a point to do things like bring drink refills, open doors and call each customer by name. It's great My usual meal here is either a minijuana chicken burrito, or I get the tacos if its taco Tuesday. Both are always tasty I will definitely be back

One of my favorite places. The store decor is awesome. The employees are so sweet, and VERY helpful. They really know their stuff. The food: let's just say: oh.my .goodness. Absolutely amazing!! Will definitely eat here again... And again.. And again. Keep it up, Tijuana Flats!

No liquor license. Which means no Margaritas. Not a fan of Mexican with no Margarita. Staff was nice.

Been coming here every other month or so since it opened. It has it's ups and downs with quality but the service has always been superb (and characteristic of TJF in general). My suggestion is definitely either the hard tacos or the chimichanga with black beans and rice. They're pretty different but fairly consistently good depending on your mood. Although I hate what they do for the environment, styrofoam cups for your drinks are such a guilty pleasure in the summer time. No cup sweat; no watered down coke. So what if there's no biodegradability and the pellets will stick around for thousands of years....? Ok, I'm making myself feel guilty. 4 stars because it's usually good and the service is great. If they could make the food items more consistent(ly good) I'd love to give them 5 stars...

  • Cliff M.

Great place for some quick and tasty tacos. The queso dip is excellent too. Service while ordering is quick and friendly. The wait staff will also come refill your drink for you while you eat. This is nice, although one time we were asked no less than eight times during a brief 30m lunch if we wanted a refill. It got mildly uncomfortable after a while ;) Still, this is a great place for fast Mexican food.

got something for take out last night Ordering on the internet was very easy. I got a blackened chicken burrito and a beef enchilada. Once home, the food tasted very good and fresh!! You could taste that it's not microwaved or anything. It just had the nice clean taste of fresh ingredients. I will definitely go back or get something from there!!

We went as a family last night. The staff was so friendly and quick to help and serve. We had a miriad of items and they were all completely gone by the time we left. My 5 year old loves their queso and my 14 year old loves the challenge of the hot sauce bar. My 11 yo daughter who is highly picky loved her quesadilla with steak. I love that they let me put steak on the kid quesadilla. She wouldn't finish the adult size one. They handled all of our special requests with ease. We initially sat outside because it is so nice and peaceful, but it proved to be too cold. The staff helped us move. The girl held the door and all of our dinners at the same time. I said, "I should hold the door for you! You have all that food!" She said, "oh no, I am sure you take care of everyone all the time. My turn to take care of you!" So sweet. The value is great. Special days like Taco Tuesday makes the value even greater. We will be back often. I do think we get asked for refills a bit too much. But, in a world where so many businesses have forgotten how to provide customer service I would rather have a little too much service than not enough.

One of the best if not the best Tex Mex restaurants I have ever eaten at, the employees talk like normal people not like corporate monkey robots awesome sangria and queso dip great atmosphere and the sauce bar is amazing makes chipotle taste like Taco Bell

I love Tijuana Flats. I was so glad when they moved into my neighborhood this year (Roosevelt location at the newly built Ibis Walk .) I could eat there every Tuesday. Taco Tuesdaze boast 2 tacos, chips, and a drink for a mere $4.99. The tacos are huge and I love the salty tortilla chips. Prepare yourself for SRO during this special, I usually opt to take out. I also adore the salads (if you don't love their avocado ranch, I don't know you), the hot sauce bar, and the chimichangas. It is not fancy pants Mexican dining, but I dig it for a fast, tasty, reasonable meal. Also, this may be the cheeriest staff in all of the land.

This location is wonderful. The staff always seems ecstatic to work here, and are always pumped to serve the food. I've never been to a Tijuana Flats where the people were this happy, it's great. The food is always delicious, what you would expect from T. Flats. My go-to is blackened chicken quesadillas, and it never disappoints. Great for a quick meal.

I finally ventured to this fast food meets bistro Mexican restaurant. It's an order at the counter and have your food delivered kind of a place. The menu is not terribly vast, but even still, there's plenty from which to choose. I ordered floutas. They were served with tomatoes, olives, onions, guacamole and sour cream. The food was delivered quickly, with a smile and piping hot. Everything was quite fresh. As soon as our plates were scraped clean, someone was right there to take our plates away. All in all, this place was much more than I expected. Service was above and beyond the typical fast food joint. If you want to get the most for your dollar, do check this place out!!

The chips & salsa are bottomless...the wait staff isnt! I have always got EXCELLENT service here. Seriously, I get better service here than I've got a The Capital Grill. The ladies that work the floor here are either hopped up on something or just really really friendly and attentive. I've never had a bad meal here. The hot sauce bar is great. It goes from MILD to WILD. I highly recommend trying the "Georgia Peach" hot sauce. They do serve beer - so if you're interested in that it's a plus. I'd say that T-flats blows Moe's out of the water and has a different less "self important" vibe than Chipotle.

I generally try to avoid writing reviews for chains. I mean, I've been going to Tijuana Flats since my freshman year of college, the one across the street from USF, to the one down University in Orlando, to multiple locations in St. Pete. The formula is pretty much the same - cute, friendly staff; amazing food; hot sauce bar. So in case you've never been to a T Flats, let's break down why this one is awesome. Usually you won't even open the door yourself - a nice young woman will do it for you, while getting your drink order and telling you the daily special. If that doesn't work, you can grab or be handed a menu as you hit the quick line. Now Tijuana Flats usually prides itself on getting orders in quick, but due to the influx of business crowd types, this one has mastered it. On Tuesdays, check out Taco Tuesday - two tacos, chips, drink for $5.35. Not bad. If not, I highly recommend the blackened chicken chimichanga (lets' be honest, who doesn't like saying chimichanga) - a burrito stuffed with meat, deep fried - and get it wet with queso. If a whole burrito is too much, the flautas are a good pick up - think southwest eggrolls. After you order, head straight to the sauce bar. Want just a solid, excellent tasting sauce? Get the Sweet Chili. Want to make sure no one snags a chip? Head to the sauces with the dead smiley face. Expect Endorphin Rush and something with Ghost Chilies. Next, find a seat. There is a huge outdoor area and considering the weather is nice right now, it gets packed quick. Before long some nice girl inundated with food will start calling names and begin your feast. Another great thing is just the service, and while Tijuana Flats ALWAYS excels at customer service, I feel this one stands out more. These girls have a perpetual smile on their face as they try to accomplish a lot of tasks at once and should be commended - refills, sauces, clearing plates. These servers are all excellent. Note: if you have a common name, come up with a rare nickname. Granted I should have learned this, since my team has 2 other Mikes, but today I came in and gave my name "Mike". The girl at the counter laughed and joked about how that seems like the only people they are getting today. I suggested they could use my nickname, but she said it was fine, that's what last initials are for. Wrong. turns out I was just one of many Mike Cs there today, such that her and the girl next to her began laughing and commenting. Now if only I could remember my high school goofy pickup name.

Love their food and the service at this location has always been great. Unlike other Tijuana flats I've been to, this one has a much larger and nicer outdoor seating area which is nice when the weather is warm.

By far the worst location I've been to. I decided to give this location another chance after a couple of disappointing experiences. At every other location, my chicken quesadilla is chock full of chicken. Each time I come to this location, I get maybe 4 pieces of chicken. Not in each piece of quesadilla, mind you... 4 total. Their excuse is that they use the same amount as indicated in the recipe. Right. I guess I'll stick with the locations that go above and beyond their recipes.

Still not as good as the others. So since everyone is whining cause I left a two star review right after they opened I figured I'd leave an updated one for a recent visit. After a long weekend in Cleveland we came back to an emptry frig and even emptier stomachs and thought we'd pop in here for a quick taco and corona. Of course as soon as you walk in your accosted by the overzealous order taker, which I can get past, I get the gimmick, but I don't need help with the menu thank you, I can read. The problem with ordering here is the two cashiers are right next to each other so while one is yelling "DOS TACOS HARD NO OLIVES BLAH BLAH BLAH" the one next to her is yellling louder "ONE BURRITO CHICKEN BLAH BLAH BLAH" and the louder each one gets, the louder the other gets. So we get our tacos and cervezas and move to a table by the hot sauce bar. We're not two bites in when here comes another over caffinated worker saying "how is everything?" "Fine thank you, we just sat down" One minute, I mean it literally, a different over caffinated idiot "Everything ok here" "yes, it's fine"....two minutes and half a taco later here comes a manager "how is everything here" "grrr...fine but we wish you guys would stop asking us that" Oh sorry...ha ha ha Really? One bite into the second taco another "manager" come sby "everything ok here folkd? "REALLY?! Now I just want to drop an f bomb but I won't. I get it,it's a gimmick, now piss off. So now hubby is done but nibbling at chips while I finish only to be accosted again by yet another fool "Can I take the plate away" ..."Can you leave the plastic where it is for two seconds so I can finish my chips" So I gotta get out here, we head for the door, really? Ditzo comes from behind the register "Let me get the door for you it kind of sticks" Well brain surgeon we just walked in it 20 minutes ago I think we can manage to go out it. I'm going back to the one in Pinellas park (a city I abhor) at least they understand the word "OVERKILL!"

My wingman and I just got done visiting this place and I can tell you that despite what is reported to be a rough start, they most certainly have their act together. Food was excellent and the service was second to none. They graciously offer a military discount (if you ask for it) and the Taco Tuesday's is not to be missed - two taco's with a drink for $5. Do yourself a favor. Get out of the house, swing by this place and make some new friends. Servers and managers are approachable, professional and want to ensure you have a great experience.

Yay hot sauce bar!!!! For fast food this is a decent place. Staff is friendly, environment is clean. Better than Taco Bell, but not real Mexican. Still I will def come back!!!

Really nice enchiladas. The place is really nice, with a cool outside area. Folks are also nice! Don't try the regular burritos (you'll find burritos everywhere); instead, try the enchiladas with chicken and bean!

My daughter recommended Tijuana Flats as she frequents this establishment in the Sarasota area. I had the Chicken Chimichanga w/ refried beans and rice. The Chimi was excellent and very filling. The beans and rice were somewhat "standard" but it wasn't terrible. Since this was my first visit, I was able to receive a free basket of chips. The sauce bar is incredible and ranges from sweet, to garlic, pepper, salt, and just too damn hot! :) Our server, Dana, was a lot of fun and kept my daughter and I entertained throughout. It was quiet when we entered at 2:30pm. I could understand, based on some of the other reviews, how this place could be very busy given its location in a business setting. I definitely recommend this place and I want to go back and try some of the other offerings.

The only food in the St. Petersburg (and Florida) area that I have honestly wanted to come back to! I found TF by accident and am so happy I went with my instincts on this. From the super attentive friendly and fun staff to the great food, the overall experience was more than positive. I love that they have over 10 hot sauces to choose from and love even more that they keep cycling them out with new sauces periodically. I ordered the Chimichanga(~$10), which is a flour tortilla filled with rice, beans, cheese, and chicken. The tortilla is then folded and deep-fried in addition to being topped with salsa, sour cream, cheese, and fresh jalapeño peppers. If you're in the area, please come here as it is some of the best Mexican food and service you will find in Florida.

The chicken chimichanga with queso on top is amazing. I like their customer service is a lot better tyen some of pricey restaurants. This location has much better seating than one by US 19.

First off, just want to say that I am a big fan of Tijuana Flats and have been to a number of locations around Tampa and the state of Florida. That being said, I feel that the first review (2 star) is a bit unjust as the restaurant has just opened in the past couple of weeks, and of course there will be kinks to work out with ANY business that just opened. I'm sorry that the reviewer had a negative experience and I respect their opinion, but I hope they come back to this location as they have really stepped up their game here. If you're looking for some Tex-Mex food and you're thinking either here, or Moe's, or Chipotle, I'd definitely take a Tijuana Flats every time. I just think that TF has a much, much better selection of foods, and I'm just not overwhelmed by anything at Moe's, unlike a lot of my friends back in college. Anywho, I've been very impressed thus far with this location. We have been here every Tuesday since they opened, including their opening day, and have not been disappointed at all. The service is one of my favorite features about this location. The staff is very friendly and prompt with refilling drinks, answering questions, and just overall seem to enjoy working there. Even had a nice chat with the manager (Jason) and he was happy to take the time to talk to us, not just say hi and walk away. That's professionalism I like to have when eating out, and makes me feel appreciated as a customer. I would love for this location to survive and thrive, and they seem to be doing quite well so far. They have a great location in northern St. Pete and for us living in South Tampa, this is a 10 minute drive over Gandy after the rush hour traffic clears out during the week. I will definitely be returning to this location and look forward to our weekly Taco Tuesday outing. Not to mention coming back NOT on a Tuesday for one of their other delicious dishes too! PS - They need to stock more of the Georgia Peach sauce. My god. Not their fault, the stuff is like crack. Hardly in-stock, but once you've had it, you'll know why they have such a hard time keeping any supply of it.

I LOVE Tijuana Flats and visit them all over Florida. I like this one because the food is consistently good. I always get the norrita bowl with beef...super tasty. The outdoor seating area is great. Service is great and the whole family loves the hot sauce bar!

  • Danan C.

This like all other Tijuana Flats is awesome!! The staff are excellent and helpful. The location is very nice as well. It's set right next a small lake. The flow of the place is decent as well minus one minor factor: the hot sauce bar is a little in the way of moving traffic to get to the back tables. Very minor. Over all I gave 5 stars because the service is excellent, the food is excellent, the ambiance is very wild an fun. I would also like to make a mention to Virginia G.'s 2 star rating: You've got to cut a business some slack when they first open. While I would certainly agree that staff should be trained, they may not be working like a well oiled machine right off the bat. I personally don't think it is fair to condemn a business with a poor review just after a grand opening. I would like to recommend that you try visiting them again because I had an entirely different experience.

  • Joshua M.

The staff is very friendly. From the moment they rush to open the door for you until the moment they say good bye they seem to be really happy to help. The food isn't the best I have had but it is better than most. The presentation could use some work. The hot bar is disappointing. The number of choices and lack of a clear idea what each is make selecting confusing. Also, i would like to see them move away from the paper cups. It is a little low class. The location is great. I feel they under utilize the patio space. This could become a happening night place if they wanted it to.

Chips and salsa were awesome, great choices of hot sauces, other than that, my burrito was pretty bad... Very leaky to say the least, and overcooked. I would come to this place for chips and salsa, but nothing else. Oh yes, almost forgot, staff is a little overzealous. We were asked how everything was 5 times too many, and it got pretty annoying. Staff was super nice but coached in the wrong way to interact with guests, definitely a managerial issue. The cashier also asked me how my food was and I decided to be truthful and said,"to be honest, it wasn't very good." She laughed and said, "okay." She still proceeded to take my money and didn't even apologize for giving us unsatisfactory food.

This is a new Tijuana Flats location in the brand new Ibis complex in St. Pete. Do not come here during the 12 o'clock hour - you will not have a place to sit and you will have to wait in a really long line to order! This area is very office heavy, so lots of lunch time diners are descending on taco goodness at the same time! They do have quite a bit of seating inside and outside, but on a Thursday afternoon visit at 12:15, not a single table was empty. The staff was very accommodating both times I was here. During my first visit during lunch rush hour, I was about 20 people back in line. The staff came around taking drink orders and bringing everyone in line drinks. I thought this was fabulous! On my next visit, I went around 2pm and the restaurant was much quieter! From walking in to walking out with my order was about 5 minutes total. And I did not even call ahead!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
