Veggie tacos are delish plus best guacamole ever! Ingredients are fresh! A little pricey, $34 for two for lunch (not including tip). Worth it though! One person working was spoty on service but another person, who seemed more seasoned there, made up for it ensuring we had everything needed. Can't wait to go back!

Excellent meal at a not too bad price. This might be the freshest corn tortillas I've ever had. Less than 10 bucks and I'm full and ready to walk this off. Cousin has the bean and rice bowl, and it was excellent as well. Perfect amount of seating, nice atmosphere, great music too!

I ordered the carnitas sandwich with an extra side of guacamole .The service was prompt and fast and friendly. The inside was clean. The street parking was ample. The price was fair. I did take out so I can't comment on the servers. The food was yummy and I will definitely be back. My only knock on the place is that the pork was slightly Gracie but it was tasty

This is truly a great place to get together for a couple, friends, or group of people. They have accommodating inside and outside seating. I went here with my hubby, and we really responded to the laid back/chill atmosphere. Like other reviews suggest, you are paying for the quality, not quantity of the meal. But the options are well worth it! The tacos, the bowls, any option you chose, you will not be disappointed. The first time we ordered, we did not order enough. My hubby had three tacos, and myself, two. Definitely not enough for us, but we happily went back and ordered more food. The next time around, he got a bowl, which he felt really satisfied with. Everything is seasoned no well, with fresh ingredients, and homemade soft tacos. This is definitely a gem in the Burg.

I love the fish tacos! I have experienced real tex mex in Texas, and this place is the best I have experienced in FL!

I had always wanted to try it when it was in it's old location but never made it. I have since moved to Tampa and eagerly awaited its new location opening each time we came back to downtown St Pete. We finally did make it here on our way to a show and I loved it. We came here one weekend night (there is a parking lot on the side, plus street parking) There was a small line that moved super quick. We looked at the menu online and knew right away what we wanted. It was cold that night so excluding one couple outside at the picnic tables, everyone was inside. The interior is very nice/trendy and if I recall, they had good music playing too. Staff was friendly. I'm vegetarian and ordered the beans and rice bowl w/ tortillas, my boyfriend ordered 3 tacos (each w/ a different meat filling) and we shared chips and guac and had a beer each. When the beans/rice bowl arrived, it looked a little on the small side at first. However, take into consideration I also received tortillas, and was able to make my own tacos, it was more then enough food and I was quite satisfied. The beans/rice bowl as well as the guacamole were quite tasty (and "limey".. which I love). My boyfriend and I both commented that there were definitely "layered" flavors there. It tasted like they marinate the food. Not bland at all. (So me seeing another reviewer saying it was bland is quite surprising to me) We were both very satisfied. I believe his only 'con' was the cost added up. His 3 tacos (w/ no sides) was about $9 by itself. I look forward to coming back again.

I am SO disappointed. Nothing at all was worthy unless you have a tasteless, bland, boring palate. I've been eager to try this place out since it opened on Central St. Pete. I looked at the menu online before hand to see what sounded good. I ordered several items off the menu. (I don't even want to list what I ordered, for the off-chance they might actually take the constructive criticism and put it to good use by reinventing their tacos.) I'll never go back, that's all I know. Neither will anyone I know who gets a weekly hankering for Mexican. I opened up a YELP just to review this place!

Funky open-air place with delicious fresh Mexican food. We especially enjoyed the beans and rice bowl which is flavorful and filling, and the tacos were tasty but small. Prices reasonable. Friendly service.

Wow!! Great Food, Great Location. Easy Parking Private Lot, Friendly Staff, Clean, Simple Menu. Make sure you try the Chips, Guac & Salsa. Its so good. I had the carne bowl. Very filling. Order & pay at the counter. Seat yourself, they will bring you the food. Cold Mexican and Domestic bottles of beer. This is one of my favourites!!

This place was great!!! It had really cute indoor and outdoor seating. All the servers seemed super friendly and the service was so speedy. The food was delicious; well seasoned tacos, delectable guacamole and yummy tortillas. I would highly recommend this place

I had the taco bowl with blackened fish and it was delicious. The girl at the front asked if we had been there before and explained the menu and some of their favorite items. The food was fresh and the tortillas were clearly homemade and delicious. I will definitely go back to explore more of their menu and would recommend.

This place is good and their corn tortillas are delicious because the tortillas are not very thick. I am giving it a 4/5 because this place is decent if you are craving some Mexican food. This place seems like a popular spot because many people come and there was a line before we ordered our food. 2 stars - awesome design of the place. I like the feel of this place it is sort of hipster. They also have tables in the back of the restaurant which was actually a quiet part of the restaurant because inside and outside of the place was very busy and loud. Also, the bathroom is clean and it is located in the back of the restaurant. 2 stars- Good food. I was a super fan of their tortillas because they were not very thick. I ordered the shrimp and fish tacos and they were good but not the best I have had. LOCATION: this place is located in the downtown area of St. Petersburg. There is a 2 hour parking on the street but I think after 6pm the 2 hour parking is not implemented. The 2 hour parking gets challenging during lunch or dinner hours. They actually have a tiny parking lot but I am not sure if it is for the restaurant customers. I usually just park on the street. Overall, this may not be the best tacos I have had but I would come back to this place and try the other items on their menu.

Just delicious. I had the Carne Asada Casita Bowl and it was terrific. Very fresh, very clean, and very tasty. The service was fast and helpful. The only downside - the Devils Handshake sauce wasn't as spicy as one would expect. But regardless, definitely a great place for a quick, filling, and delicious lunch.

This is a solid place to go for tacos. A bit on the pricey side at $3.50 each but they are stuffed with goodies so it's a fair price for what you get to me. This location they moved to is a big improvement over their original location because of the much much larger dining areas both inside and outside. Most of the patio is shaded by a roof while the other tables agave large umbrellas. Still gets hot though. They are dog friendly here which gives me an excuse to come more often. My boyfriend and I ordered almost every taco on the menu: vegetarian taco, shrimp taco, fish taco all three for me; and chicken, pork and beef tacos for him. We loved our lunch. I think the shrimp taco was better than the fish taco. I liked the vegetarian taco, but you really need to add guacamole on it bc otherwise it tastes a little plain. One thing worth highlighting for my fellow taco aficionados is the tortilla. These are not your flimsy flamsy commercial tacos - you can taste masa here. I also like how low key but friendly the place is. Order your food and someone brings it out. No waiter service to tip and add unnecessary costs. We will definitely be regulars.

Casita Taqueria offers the freshest Mexican food in town. If you are looking for something in the healthy side, the salads great. Add a little of their homemade hot sauce to any food item. The place also has a great vibe, with plenty of outdoor seating. As a bonus, it is dog friendly!

Awesome tacos best in the area. Highly recomend over the bus place down the street. The restaurant was very clean and staff very atentative. Love the carne asada tacos. They also have outside dining which i love

Atlast!!! I have been looking for a killer Mexican spot since I moved from VA in 2011. None have come close to what I was used too. First of all, the guacamole is super fresh! You can taste every ingredient and it's so creamy! Their salsa is The Holy Grail for me! I am so friggen happy I found this spot! Just waiting to since my teeth into my Carne Asada & Pollo Verde tacos! Excuse me whilst I stuff my mouth....... And I'm a satisfied customer! My carne Asada taco hit the spot perfect for my hangover! Wow, juicy tender meat, the fresh made corn tortilla made me feel like I was a guest in a Mexican home. You can't get a more authentic flavor than here. This is a must get taco! My pollo verde was spot on! Fresh chicken and just well put together! Never a soggy tortilla or even soaked to the point of the taco falling apart! Best Taco Joint!!!

VERY FITTING OF THE CENTRAL AVE VIBE Great, affordable food with outdoor seating surrounded by artsy décor. DELICIOUS, SIMPLE FOOD While you may argue about its authenticity, Casita's food still taste great. There's several stuffings you can choose from and 2-3 Tacos is enough to fill you up. Although the Tacos are prepared simply--they don't go crazy on the toppings--they are stuffed with your Meat of choice. Delicious! My bowl was stuffed with seasoned Rice, Cilantro, Tomatoes, white Cheese, and Creamy Sauce all over Carnitas. The side of Chips were crispy with a great Salt flavor that didn't overwhelm. OTHERS THAT MAKE THE ATMOSPHERE You order at the door/counter and they bring the food to you. (If it's busy you'll be pressed against the wall or straddling outside as you wait in line). The service is excellent and friendly--often more than one employee will greet you as you sit. Extra Salsa is available from a little table (not many variety) but this food is pretty great as is that Salsa isn't needed. GLUTEN-FREE/ ALLERGIC PYRA SAYS: Of course every stuffing is optional so you can hold the Beans (Pinto or Black) if you dislike those legumes. The Taco wraps and Chips are all corn-based for you Gluten-free peeps.

Casita is one of the restaurants that we go to regularly because all of my kids really like at least one thing on the menu. I almost always get the Casita bowl with chicken. Casino has replaced Chipotle is one of my favorite restaurants when I'm in a hurry. You can get food to go you can sit on the patio with your dog or you can sit inside with the air conditioning. They also have a very good sangria and several craft beers to choose from. They recently added tables in the backyard and it will be very nice once the weather cools down. The service is so fast that we like to go there when we have quick work lunches. I recommend casita if you like more authentic Mexican food. Many times we have gone when the line was out the front door but most of the time they are very quick and there's always been a seat for us.

Went twice at their old location and was WAITING for the new location to open, pining for their delicious tacos and sauces, since my experience from the 1st 2 visits was 5 stars. This 3rd visit was downright crappy. Neither of us was happy with our food. New location is larger, but with no parking lot. Cool decor but extremely stupid layout. When you walk in the door, the ordering counter is RIGHT THERE. So if you're waiting in line you can't really see the menu until it's time to order. The employees act like you're supposed to line up inside but there's no room for that because of where the drinks are. Also, you end up body-rubbing with other customers no matter what. Either you're coming in when they're going to the patio/line out or vice-versa. If you order water to drink they give you those shitty 6-ish oz. cups. Seriously? You're going to charge me $4 for a teeny taco but you're THAT concerned that I'm going to steal your soda. Dumb. Tables aren't wiped in a timely fashion. You'll probably have to push someone else's crumbs and spills out of the way with a napkin yourself when you sit down. The food during our last visit was 2-stars. Keep in mind 1-star would be food poisoning, insect on plate, raw chicken, never getting food, etc. Between us we had 4 tacos and chips. All of our tacos were halfway between lukewarm and cold. My shrimp taco had 4 small shrimps on it (I posted a photo), none of them were generously filled. We had ordered our tacos without raw onions or whatever shredded slaw-type stuff would've been there. One had onions on it, plain and simple. The others clearly had had the raw topping applied, then had it brushed/shaken/picked off...poorly. That's gross and lazy. If they're lazy about that it makes me think they're lazy about hand-washing and glove-changing. The hot sauces that were SO addictively good from our first visits? They were bland and all the bottles were almost out. We had to find 3 bottles to get enough sauce for 1 taco and it wasn't even worth it. I can't believe this place has a tip jar and a tip line on the credit card receipts. For what? NOT cleaning tables? Being stingy with water? I'm sure we'll be back eventually with our fingers crossed they've returned to their former glory, but we certainly aren't making a special trip when Bodega is reliable, better, and with normal sized water cups.

After a few more visits I'll give the CT Central Ave location an overall rating of 7 out of ten. 3.5 stars. Pros: Taste. The ingredients and the mix of flavors is first class. These are gourmet tacos that not only taste great but are nicely presented as well. I like the Chorizo Burrito Bowl. As a matter of fact I love the taste of their chorizo. No matter what I get there I order it over any other meat choice. Cons: The Central Ave location does not have burritos. Really? I don't get it. Why would you eliminate one of the most popular items from your menu? The tacos are great but they are not exactly stuffed. Bump up your order by 1. If you usually get 2, order 3. You can woof these down in a heartbeat. I'm not a fan of the taco shell. It has a bland taste to it and a different type of texture. It's hard to explain. Personal preference I guess. Previous mentioned subpar sauce choices.

Wow. This place is really good. Everything was great... food, drinks, scenery and customer service. Definitely recommend the tacos de barbacao and the agave wine margarita. Also, the sweet habanero sauce is where it's at.

Looks like I'm going against the grain here, but I feel like this is one time Yelp mislead me. I was told to find a place for Mexican cuisine by one of my co-workers. I plugged in the magic words into Yelp, and boom! This place popped up, I was excited by the near perfect reviews. We headed on down to Casita Taqueria, passing the Taco Bus on the way I might add. Nice building with indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered at the counter, and the food came out within five minutes, no complaints on the service whatsoever. I was determined to get a good sampling of their offerings, so I ordered the Pescado, Carnitas, Barbacoa, Chorizo, and the Carne Asada tacos. None of them stood out. I started using sauces on them. I tried the honey habanero, nice taste to it, but no heat. I tried the devil's handshake, certain there would be some heat based upon its name, again, no heat. I then tried their green gringo sauce, good, but not great. As we headed back to the office, I saw Taco Bus out of my window. I looked at it longingly, with regret in my heart. Nice location, great service, but average food in my humble opinion.

Id like to give this place 3.5 stars. The taste is great, but it's pretty pricey for the amount of food you receive. The tacos are pretty small. Yes, it's fresh, but I didn't find the flavors to be all that pronounced or different. I did enjoy the homemade tortillas though. We spent $29 for 5 tacos, chips/guac/salsa and a fountain drink and left hungry. Would I go back , sure but I wouldn't expect to leave too full.

Going all in on this review. Me and La Chica came out for the grand opening tonight! Sure the line was long, but totally worth it. Took us about 30 minutes just to get in the front door and place an order, so we ordered one of every taco and some of their delicious sangria. They make their corn tortillas fresh in house. No sissy flour tortillas. The food came out QUICK, 7 minutes tops. These guys were prepared for this crowd. All of the tacos were great. But if I had to pick a favorite, I'd have to go with the carnitas. Tasty, tender pork and a bit spicy on the back end. Simply amazing. Not saying the barbocoa, pollo verde, carne asada or any others weren't just as damn tasty, but the carnitas stood out for me. Second favorite, the camarones (shrimp) taco. Subtly spicy with peaches or mangos, or something sweet on there. Not sure, but the combination worked well between heat & sweet. They did have a vegetarian taco on the menu f you're a herbivore, but we opted not to order since we're all about animals dying for our gluttony. Decor was great. I'm not sure, but I think this was a gas station at some point in the past. However, what they have done with the joint was great. Very good vibe. The staff was very up beat and you wouldn't even know they were getting their asses kicked. This place was packed, yet the staff remained positive. The owner even came out and thanked everyone for their patience. Real class act staff. Hats off to everyone for being so cool. Will definitely return.

This place was awesome. My friend is an employee so we went out there together tonight and he explained all their offerings. They have something for everyone, whether you want a salad, tacos, a bowl, etc. Prices are very reasonable for the portions and quality. Great vegetarian options, too. Everything is freshly prepared in house. The only thing that is not is the sangria. Staff make authentic corn tortillas, and let me tell you, they make all the difference in the world. They also have fresh salsa with a kick to it as well as homemade hot sauce varieties. The atmosphere is great. You can sit outdoors on the patio and bring your four legged friend or sit inside and enjoy the interesting decor. They really did an outstanding job with the location and it shows. For two bowls, chips & salsa, two root beers, our total was less than $20. The staff work for tips so don forget to tip them! There's a reason there's always a line out the door. If you're looking for fresh and authentic Mexican/Southwestern style food at an awesome price, come here!

I ate at the 4th Street location down from where I work. I ordered the Barbacoa tacos. Authentic soft corn tortillas, handmade. The shredded beef was very good, not dry and it had queso fresco crumbled cheese and cilantro. It came with a lime wedge to squeeze on top. Very good. The wait staff was very friendly and nice. I'll be back.

Came out with friends last night after capoeira class, in search of two things, the analgesic, hydrating effects of a cerveza, and a tasty taco. We found both and they were very healing. My favorite here is the shrimp with a Sol and lime. Next time I'll try the veggie taco, that looks good too.

  • Carter M.

Casita Taqueria has a very friendly, hip staff, a cool faux-industrial/southwestern building and delicious tacos. The Pescado taco was especially delicious. I also tried the Barbacoa torta, which was tasty, but a little dry. I recommend sticking with the tacos. They don't have horchata, which would be an improvement, but they do have Jarritos, so some beverage authenticity is extant.

Food was sooo good, loved the Carnitas taco and the guacamole is amazing...a must have!! If they have tamales on hand you must grab one, they go fast!! The staff is friendly, great outside patio area as well (unfortunately it was raining), but inside was nice as well! If you are in downtown St. Pete drive past the Taco Bus and come eat here! I've eaten at both and this one is by far the best! Great prices great people, even better food!!

This place is awesome. We loved it in its original location, however, it did not compare to the current location. The atmosphere is awesome but not exceeded by the food and service. I love all of the food. If I can any negative comment it is I wish they had some wine choices other than Sangria. I understand that the liquor license and business model comes into play at all times.

The holy mother of tacos. This is what tacos should feel, taste and should be. This is what Taco Bus wishes they could be. The food here is fantastic, everything is fresh - the decor is wonderful. The hand painted old signage is fantastic. If you're from out of town and want real authentic, real fresh tacos this is the place.

Came here with my friend in a fabulous spring day. Was happy to sit outside. We had the white sangria with cinnamon. Cool and refreshing with just enough fruit and ice. My friend got the chicken tacos. I cannot tell you about them because she has no idea about food. She ordered them with just chicken and cheese ugh lol but they indulged her so that in itself is worth an extra star. I got the fish taco and the shrimp taco. They are served on small corn soft shells. Street taco style. Just wish it came with more radish. Only one slice per plate. I lived in Texas and know the tacos should have them but it might not fit the Florida taste buds. So ask for more if that's your thing. They tacos were so yummy. Shrimp and fish could perfectly. And the portion was great. We also had sopaipilla for dessert. Just the right amount of sweetness to end our lunch with. I highly recommend this place for taco lovers. If I still lived in St. Pete this would become a regular eating spot.

Pork belly special - Excellent. Carnitas pretty good. Chicken chipotle flautas were great. Chicken soup not so much.

We each started with two tacos. I had the carne asada and the carnitas. I liked my tacos. They were pretty tasty. He had a shrimp taco and a chorizo taco. The shrimp taco was okay but the chorizo taco was horrible. I tried a bite and spit it out. It tasted like ground up dog food. (Well how I imagined it would taste from the smell of it) he sent it back and got a spicy chicken taco instead. It was ok. I was happy with mine and my angry orchard to go with it.

Another overpriced, hipster bland place on Central Ave. Do yourself a favor and skip it. Why can't there be any decent Mexican food on St Pete?

  • Gigi S.

Braved opening day at the new locale, and couldn't be happier about it. Even at 30 minutes plus of a wait per person they still seemed to easily please patrons. They served beer in line, made it clear as they ran out of ingredients, and thanked all customers for being there on such a hectic day. We ordered one of each taco still available so that meant the chorizo and fish were out. Items such as goat and tongue are not on the menu, but they do have vegetarian offerings. My fav? The homemade corn tortillas ensure you have a crispy taco on the edges and soft in the middle with that corn flavor mixed with the cilantro heavy salsa making a fun pair. No, there aren't any actual Mexicans eating or even working here, no cactus accents making a debut on this menu either but the service was super fast, and really grateful to have us there. That's a lot more than I can say for others!

If authentic mexico slept with new age hipster, this is the love child! And what a beautiful baby she is! The staff was cool, the tacos were BOMB, and the sauces a nice compliment in flavor town. I especially love me some white crumbly queso...mmmmm.

Everything was just as good, if not better, than before. My husband and I had barbacoa and carnitas bowls, and shared some chorizo fluatas. It was all delicious! The salsa was nice and smoky and the guac was spiced to perfection. I ate until I couldn't possibly eat another bite! The new location is amazing! The inside is cool and modern and the front patio has a lot more seating than the old place did. We'll be back...very soon!

This place is great. Very chill atmosphere, excellent tacos, friendly staff. I've enjoyed everything I've tried here and my favorites have been the pollo verde tacos & the chips and guacamole. Their sangria is also pretty good for four bucks! It's the perfect place to chill and unwind with some friends.

I love the fact that they took on a garage and turned if info a restaurant. Alas, this beloved idea also cost them their 4th star. Here is how they lost that fry star in quarters. 1/2 the actual building: It's hot. There is no where to sit I you don't want to feel outside! 1/2 the service style: I always hate ordering at a counter service joint. Then scrambling to find condiments and napkins and feeling rushed and stupid. Despite the way they've got it set up the service was friendly and fine. I don't think you get to pick what goes on top of the tacos...maybe you do...maybe I was having a mild level anxiety attack because there was a line forming behind me while I tried to order without regretting the rushed feeling at the food farms. This was 4 star quality at 4 star price in a 3 star building. Now don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is awesome and I even didn't hate the music...but I reserve 4 and 5 star for mind blowing. They're real close to it! Matter of fact, if I could give half stars this would be a solid 3.5! Totally worth swinging by. Now I must mention, even though the portion size is more than generous on a unique tortilla packed with flavor, you're likely to eat it all wrong. You must try the sauces, they're directly to the right of the counter where you ordered. The green one was great. The habañero honey was a perfect meld of spicy and sweet. Awesome. That is a 5 star sauce. Enjoy tacos by these guys at casitatacos.com Enjoy more writing by me at NolaChef504.com

This place seemed fun with trendy decor, the food was disappointing. While there were many sauces on the cold tacos, the food LACKED FLAVOR. We also ordered the tortilla soup which was served cold; we had to sent it back to have it warmed. As with the tacos, it needed salt and other spices. In addition, we ordered a sangria, which they poured out of the bottle right in front of us. If the cooks added more salt and allowed their food (meats and soups) to simmer longer to soak up the flavor of the spices used, it could be good.

Am I going to say it....I think I'm going to say it...ok...here it goes. I like Casita better than Taco Bus... Ahhhh it is true! Casita has a little bit more of an authentic taste to it, also the crazy pineapple soda stuff is my jam. I really love the decor and the outside seating. Service is very friendly and sooo speedy--even when busy. Not open on Sundays, or like 3am on a Sat. during drunken stupors, but still one of the better options for Mexican on Central.

Casita Taqueria recently opened around the corner from my house. I gave them a shot a couple weeks ago and was left wanting more. I have to say they have done a great job on the remodel and the decorations in the new location. My wife and I ordered 1 sangria, 3 tacos, 1 taquito appetizer, and an order of chips and guacamole. The total was $34 which is high for a place that is basically self-service. The food was all very good, I would rate it 4/5. The guacamole in particular was very good, but I found the portioning of the chips to be a little stingy. Chips are very cheap to make, yet they hardly gave us any. We used pretty liberal amount of guacamole on our chips and we still ran out. The chips were also not up to par with some of the competition such as Taco Son. The tacos were very good and I loved the homemade corn tortillas, however the portions on the tacos were very small. For $4 I expect a little more substance to my taco. In summary, the food is good, but for the size of the portions and the fact that the restaurant is self-service, I find the prices to be too high. For the same price we could have a sit down meal at Red Mesa with equally good food and larger portions, which we will do in the future.

Delicious! I had a bowl with shredded chicken, chips and a glass of white sangria with cinnamon. The staff was so friendly! Food was served quickly and hot. Price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I would come back for sure, great ambiance.

Loved the old location, it was closer to me, but I will drive to get their food. They would get 5 stars, but they do not have enough seating and street parking at the new location stinks. I wish they would have gotten a bigger place - oh well. I love the bowls and you can pick and choose what you want in them and I omit the rice. The pineapple honey habanero sauce (I think that's it) is my fave. The green sauce is good too and more on the mild side. I also like their guac. Enjoy!

As a native Southern Californian, I tend to think my standards are higher for certain foods such as Mexican. I can tell you that in my 3 visits, the quality is always outstanding and the service friendly and welcoming. These are the best tacos I have had since moving to Florida and I am now a loyal fan. I just had a sandwich and that did too was quite good. I especially enjoy the atmosphere and art....well done Casita Taqueria

Wonderful food, service and vibes. Very thankful that they DON'T USE SOYBEAN OIL in their food...like just about every other restaurant here. I hope this trend continues actually. I am def a fan!

Taco Sun, Taco Bus, Red Mesa and other Mexican restaurants each have their own interpretation of the taco. I've eaten at all these places but what makes Casita Taqueria stand out the most is their freshness of ingredients. I've tried their barbacoa, carne asada, and the pollo asado tacos. These meats are cooked, not dry but oozing with flavor. And their sauces are a great way to personalize your taco the way you want it. I will add on however, you are paying in the quality and not necessarily on the quantity. I didn't get full off of those 3 tacos. The size is pretty small. I could've eaten a couple more to be satisfied. Overall, I must say this is a nice addition to the restaurants of Central Ave. An old gas station revitalized into a space with vibrant colors and trendy decor paired with some of the freshest tacos in St. Pete is a place that definitely should be checked out.

Me and my family decided to try this place since it was recommended by someone else. It's located in a good area, looks nice, and has quick service but thats where it ends. Growing up on the Arizona/Mexico border, I suppose I have a lot more experience with authentic tacitos and Mexican food in general. With this being said, Casita Taqueria was very disappointing. It is overpriced and the portions are minimal. The rice is something similar to the packaged instant rice mixes you can purchase at a grocery store. The bag of chips with homemade guacamole and salsa for $5.99 consists of a small paper bag filled 1/4 of the way and a small side of guacamole and salsa. The tortas has very little meat and tasteless. Your best bet for getting your money's worth is to order a bowl, but even then, there is very little meat. Beer prices are comparable to other restaurants. If you're looking for more authentic tacos and you like Taco Bus, you should try Mexico Lindo. it's a small place attached to a Latin grocery store, located on Park Blvd and 59th/60th.

The new location is really letting this place become what it deserves to become. Great tacos, cold beer, great patio right on Central Ave. I can't say enough good things about this place and I wish the owners continued success at their new location!

Tacos were light and airy and packed a delicious, homemade punch. Loved the variety of fillings. Local beer selection and open-air seating were enjoyable as well.

Man the food here is good! I haven't been to this new location til now and it's soooooo nice! Spacious outdoor patio will be great once this summer cools down. I love the bright colors of the whole place. The food is amazing as always. The service was very prompt. I like that you can order a la carte tacos so you can try different meats. The shredded beef is to die for and has quite a kick to it. The tacos look small but they are filling!!

I was just on my way to get a to-go meal from the taco bus, but spotted this crowded and lively joint and decided to stop here instead. The staff was friendly and upbeat, and I loved the shabby mexi-urban decor. I ordered the flautas with pollo verde filling, one carne asada taco, a tub of salsa, and a side of rice and beans with queso fresco. As I waited, my greedy eyes darted from table to table. The place was packed, inside and out, and everyone I spied on was biting into tasty-looking tacos with gusto. The food is definitely for the gringo palette, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but important to note if you are seeking out a truly authentic Mexican taco. (I should mention that I am Mexican. Also, I do not consider Taco Bus to be authentic either, but still enjoy it once in a while). The pollo verde flautas: oh-so-very tasty, browned, but definitely not crunchy enough for a flauta. Both the pollo verde filling and the tortilla had a very good flavor. However, I did not find any of the spiciness I was craving. I enthusiastically poured on the accompanying red salsa, which also had a good flavor, but sadly, was not in the least bit spicy either. The carne asada taco: excellent! I loved the flavor of both the filling and the tortilla, and would rank it above the one at Taco Bus. The tortilla had an especially yummy toasted corn flavor. However, I was really missing some spiciness, and the salsa just didn't do it for me. The rice and beans with queso fresco: Um, do they know what "queso fresco" is? It looked and tasted more like shredded mozzarella. Not a big deal, but just worth mentioning that "queso fresco" here does not mean crumbles of delicious fresh Mexican farmer's cheese. The black beans and rice were bland and unremarkable. I could have opened a can of black beans at home and poured it over minute rice for the same quality. One of my biggest pet peeves about taco joints (and this definitely applies to the Taco Bus as well): horrible beans! Good beans and rice are an absolute staple for any authentic Mexican meal. Invest in making a quality pot of beans, and I swear I will be your customer for life. The salsa: good flavor, but like I said before, definitely for the gringo palette. I have to say that taco bus offers way better salsa options. I tried a few salsa samples from the salsa bar as well. These definitely had a bit more of the kick/burn I was looking for, but they were very watery. Overall, I would not call this authentic in any way, but I enjoyed my food enough to where I will definitely be back. The ambiance was quite fun, and I do recommend trying the place.

I had the Casita bowl with carnitas. Perfect. The portion, flavors, and the fresh corn tortillas. I can't wait to come back to try the Camarones! The help was very friendly and accommodating. The decor inside is very taco bar stylish. Great job!

The food was fresh, beautiful, and plentiful. I'm really glad we decided to stop here for lunch today. I feel $12 for a drink, chips, guac, salsa and enough food to feel stuff is well worth it. Needless to say I will pay more for high quality food. I can't comment on the restaurant itself because we took the food to go. But we will be back! My only complaint is there was no utensils or napkins included in our to go. But chips make a great scooper to replace a fork. Problem solved...5 stars!

  • TK W.

Excellent tacos, soft corn tortillas with your choice of quite a few fillings including pork carnitas, barbacoa beef, etc. Rice bowls with or without meat are also very good. Their guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. Salsa, not bad. It had a smoky flavor which I didn't really care for. Hubby really liked it. They also had 3 hot sauces up near the register. I tried the honey habanero - nice heat, but the honey flavor was stronger than others I've tried. The gringo green sauce was excellent! A little less heat, and very flavorful. I didn't try the "devil's hands" hot sauce. Everything tastes and looks very fresh, and presentation was picture perfect. There is more seating out front and out back than in the air conditioned inside, but they have fans out front with picnic tables under cover, so it's bearable in the summer months. Very casual, but very nicely renovated/decorated building. As a plus...at least in my opinion, bathrooms were very clean and nicely decorated as well. To me that says a lot about any restaurant. Lunch for 2 - 2 tacos, rice bowl w/chips, an extra order of chips/salsa/guacamole, 1 bottle soda and 1 fountain iced tea was $23.00 We will definitely be back.

I love it here - great fresh food with friendly service - try the carnita soft tacos - my daughter loves the quesadillas and pineapple soda - I think they should have larger cups for drinks - the sauces are wonderful but wish they would change the small cups your supposed to put them in they are way to small!!!we eat here at least twice a month - fun atmosphere good beer selection! Slightly Bigger portions would be a plus too! Yummy!!!

When I tried this place they were cranking with Pride traffic. I still managed to score the best tasting fish taco. The veggie taco was pretty decent too. They could compete with such a huge volume of customers. Nice outdoor seating on Central. They have beer and pitchers of sangria. I would definitely love to go back, especially to get a vibe for the atmosphere when it is less busy.

Hands down the Best tacos in the Burg! The atmosphere is killer as are the hot sauces. I love trying the daily specials. Staff is super friendly and even when busy the food is consistent. Blows taco bus away!

Casita Taqueria has the best Mexican Food, at least I think so. I love getting their Casita Bowl with just veggies and then I add their green sauce to it. It's a great vegetarian option. The also have some pretty good soup.

This place makes dirty looking Taco Bus down the street look like nothing more than a Taco Bell. The food here is much more sophisticated and the quality is far better. Cool decor+Great tasting food+affordable prices=must try!!!

Absolutely amazing tacos! The meat is so tasty and cooked perfectly. This place probably has the best tacos I've ever had. Also, their new location is really awesome. Huge home run with this location.

  • Jessica S.

We just went 3 days ago and what can I say...they still got it! Everything is fairly priced. The salsa was mild and perfect! The flautas delicious, we tried pork, steak and shrimp tacos. All good. Sangria could use some cinnamon but it was really tasty. I decided to do the review today because I'm craving it for lunch. When we went it was so hot outside that we ate inside, it was still a little hot inside as well but that was my only complaint. Everything else was great and I will be coming back time and time again!

I have to say best Mexican food I've had since I've moved to Florida. I've tried taco bus and its a "ehhh" but when I had the tacos here I couldn't stop eating them. I would go everyday if I could. There tacos are the closest thing to a real Californian taco truck.

Food was good. The entrance of the restaurant seems a little cramped because people are standing in line ordering and the staff is bringing food out to the guests as well. Not a huge variety of hot sauces and food on the menu. Food is fresh and delicious. A little pricy, but good food.

  • Joshua B.

We went here after it being reopened. We found the place to have a cool vibe and it also was decorated nicely. We both ordered a few tacos and were quite happy with the flavor, but the portion size for the money is quite small. A 3 bite taco should not be 4 dollars. We ended up spending what we normally would at a sit down restaurant, but it was a self serve taco shack. With having similar options in the area, we will likely not be back.

  • Alex L.

While his place is a bit expensive I really enjoy the food. Everything is fresh and made to order. I have had the carne asada and barbacoa tacos. Chips and salsa are good the guacamole is excellent, they also have this honey habanero hot sauce that I love. I have to tell you that I predominantly order the daily special and it consistently knocks my sox off. Very good selection of craft beers (always something from Anderson Valley).

St. Pete has a pretty sad assortment of "ethic" food restaurants, but this place is a stand-out. The ingredients are fresh, the kitchen is constantly coming up with new specials (updates on their Facebook page), and the tacos are better than anything you can get locally. I wouldn't say the food is authentically Mexican -- for that you'll have to drive to Bradenton -- but that's just as well, because it's a whole lot healthier. I don't understand some of the other reviewers' comments about the service. The staff is super friendly, responsive, and fast. After maybe three visits, they knew my name. And even when there's a line, it's usually fast-moving. Compare that to Taco Bus, where the teenagers at the counter are either rude or spacey, and you'll realize the few complaints here are from people not accustomed to waiting for anything. Suggestions: Casita needs larger water cups, but what would be truly awesome is if it replaced its foam take-out containers with a biodegradable option.

  • Patrick ..

Tasty, fresh, fast, and good beer prices. The only downside is that the tacos are kinda small. It takes 3 to make a filling meal.

This place is the bomb. I've only tried the tacos so far but the flavors are delicious and I didn't feel horrible after eating a few which, let's be honest, is entirely possible when you're eating Mexican. Will definitely be back.

Tacos, tacos, tacos! Super fresh, handmade tortillas and toppings are what you can expect here. The carne asada and the pollo verde are my two personal favorites. The selection of salsa is great ( 3 to choose from). Always fresh and moderately priced. Expect to pay about 8-10$ for three very filling tacos.

  • Wyatt G.

Great Authentic Mexican style tacos and other fare. Chips are always crisp and fresh and salsa tastes like it's made on location. I tried the Tortas today and it was great. A little pricey, but worth it if you want the real deal. Also surprisingly accommodating of the little ones for a hip taco joint. No high chairs though. You should definitely check this place out if in the area.

This place is AMAZING! If you like Grouper, they do grouper tacos on Friday or Saturday that are for real!!!! If not, get a casita bowl which is like a chipotle bowl but WAY better ingredients. I love the spicy chicken. The bowls come with tortillas on the side. You'll like it trust me...

I ordered the guacamole, Beef soup with beans and the chorizo taco. Guacamole was the bomb, the soup was just what i needed for my awful cold and the taco was amazing but there is one thing i would do differently and that is to double the corn tortillas for the tacos because they break easily and makes it hard to eat. Overall i thought it was really good and that it topped taco truck from down the street!

  • Jonah L.

The food was pretty good but the sangria is made of a mix. They showed me the bottle saying it was the same one that Ceviche uses. It was a plastic bottle of mix and not wine. I said "isn't sangria made out of wine?" They said yes. I was sort of shocked they had offered to show me the bottle of "sangria mix" knowing they weren't really making genuine sangria and still charging $17/pitcher. The fruit wasn't even soaked in it and they added it when we ordered. I asked if the seafood was fresh. The staff member hesitated and said yes. I think she was thinking 'fresh from the frozen food section'. The food was pretty good though and it's always nice to have the outside eating option.

Everything has been very tasty :) we have been there 4 times in two weeks and hasn't disappointed once :) very good service as well & great atmosphere .. Would highly recommend trying Casita Taqueria

Decent food, but the restaurant is just terribly run. It's a very uncomfortable place to eat. When we went, they opened the bay doors and went with no AC in Florida in June. The ordering is soooo slow and really disorganized. The line was winding into the store, but they wanted it to go out the door and outside. People didn't know where to line up and, again, it's June in Florida and was extremely hot lining up outside. They also give tiny cups of water and don't refill your drinks for you so you're refilling your two ounce cup every couple of minutes. I highly recommend avoiding this place unless they get their act together.

This place is the JAM such fresh food and I always love everyone that works here they are so nice and accommodating. They have the best specials (specifically tacos) The owner is very friendly and is always asking how we like the food.

This place is great. Good gourmet tacos and burrito bowls. Also good sangria and soda selection for non alcoholics. I love how many veggie options they have here and even the special is sometimes vegetarian! Woo! The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to ambiance and set up. The counter to order is right inside the door so on busy days the door gets left open and a line forms down the patio where people are eating. Also, they have a ton of space in the back of the building they should really use for something. Overall really wonderful place. One of my favorites in St. Pete.

    (4)
  • Sylvester M.

Best tacos in St Pete. They don't have burritos, so don't ask. Homemade tortillas and great stuff to go in them. The Carne Asada is real strip steak. Homemade salsas and soups round out the simple menu. When you do something well there is no need to get complicated. It can get busy here during peak times.

    (5)
  • Chris L.

Went here for the 1st time earlier in the week one word amazing. I had the chicken bowl with 3 tortillas instead of chips. The one thing to me which sets this place apart are those tortillas they are handmade unlike most in the area which are store bought, you can taste the difference. I love supporting anything local so this place has my vote plus with the variety on spice that's key to me. So they definitely get 5 stars from me to me there 3 parts the service the attitude and the food they covered all of it.

    (5)
  • Amanda R.

Excellent. Pollo Verde is the best -- get the chips and salsa. Cinnamon sangria was on point as well. Definitely a local treasure.

The food was tasty and came out fast. I had 3 tacos and paid about $10. I'm not a big eater but it would've taken 5 tacos to fill me up. A bit pricy.

After just one visit, I am blown away. I've been meaning to try Casita since they opened as I never visited their prior location on 4th Street. When scoping out their menu before visiting, I had initially planned on trying a few different tacos but at the last minute, decided on a Casita Bowl. I figured this would be a good way to test out a lot of what they have to offer at one time. Ordering a Casita Bowl presents the option to accompany your main grub with a side of tortilla chips or corn tortillas. I opted for the tortillas because they advertise that they're made in house and after tasting them, I'm confident that I picked the winner. Seriously, go for the tortillas (I mean, how amazing could tortilla chips be?). On to the main attraction -- Everything about the bowl was fresh and delicious. The perfectly spiced chorizo, the creamy guacamole, the pico de gallo, even down to the rice and beans base. It also bears mentioning that I had plenty of leftovers even after using the provided tortillas to make and wolf down three DIY monster tacos. While waiting on my takeout, I couldn't help but notice that the place was packed. There was a steady stream of new customers coming in to order their lunch and both the inside and outside seating were nearly full to capacity. The staff is friendly and the decor and feel of the restaurant itself is very cool. I hate to keep the comparison train going but I will. I've eaten at both the Hillsborough and Central Avenue locations of Taco Bus dozens of times over the years. Casita and the Bus both offer the same style of food, just done a bit differently, so it's hard not to discern which you prefer after trying both. Personally speaking, I think I have found a new favorite. Lo siento, Taco Bus.

We were excited to go and try this restaurant, my husband ordered 2 tacos and I ordered one taco, plus an order of chips and salsa. The tacos were very small, and the meat was very salty, not what we were looking for.

  • Roger D.

We love their new location and atmosphere! We sampled most of their tacos, and enjoyed every one of them. The tortillas were spot on. Salsas were good, but not on par with their other menu items. The decor is fun and trendy- lots of color and sugar skulls. The two drawbacks were: 1) price is a smidge high for taco fare (but we may have a bias, originally being from California, land of a million tacos dives) and 2) they allow smoking in their outdoor seating area. It may be awesome for people to have a place to light up, but it totally kills it for patrons who just want to enjoy a meal in open air settings.

Moving from California to Florida...I was skeptical of the Mexican food here. Boy was I right. This place is substandard to say the least and a bit pricey to boot. The chips were stale, the guacamole was bland, and the tacos were bland as well. I doubt I will be coming back anytime soon. Another tip to the cashier...stop trying to upsell customers. If I wanted to order it...I would have.

Casita taqueria is the only place in st. Petersburg to go for Mexican food. The service is consistently great, the food is solid, and it's a great atmosphere. Definitely try the salad. I'm a regular here and love it. Plus, it's much cheaper then taco bus for the value.

We went here a couple weeks ago. People from four separate households met here to have dinner and we all got horribly sick, starting from that night to the following afternoon and lasting several days. While we can't say with 100% certainty we got sick from the food here, I don't see any other explanation. There is no way we will be going back.

Love this place! We go for lunch almost weekly. Have tried all the other Mexican places in DTSP and this one takes the prize. The casita bowl is a staple at our table. They have a great patio with dog-friendly seating. They have a smaller inside but usually enough tables to find a spot. The only knock is it isn't quite big enough for the rabid following it has developed. If the weather is poor the limited indoor space really shows. If it is beautiful out then enjoy a casita bowl and Modelo and your worries will soak away.

  • Taylor M.

I love the new place! Definitely an upgrade form the other location, more seating, more views. I ordered the guac and chips to snack on while waiting for our meals. It was okay - not so flavorful. The chips were good - need to keep fresh ones though. I ordered Pollo Verde, Barbacoa and the Carne Asada tacos. All three were tasty - the Barbacoa a bit on the spicy side. But I felt they were missing something. All of them. I fet that is was rather expensive for what we got. The service was hit and miss while we were there. I will probably go back but won't expect a weekly adventure like our other destinations in the area.

  • Tina L.

I want to love this place, but I'm just not feeling it. Let me preface this by saying I'm a vegetarian. I've had the Casita bowl with veggies twice, as well as chips with guacamole and salsa. The guac is yummy! The bowl...greasy and too heavily seasoned with a seasoning I can't pinpoint. I felt like I was eating a fried, heavily fried, rice bowl. I'm hopeful the veggie options will improve someday. A cute place with friendly staff.

If you're torn between this place and red mesa, come here. Better quality, less expensive, less pretentious and better service. Red Mesa sucks in terms of customer service, and this place is just all around awesome.

Good variety of tacos, the barbacoa is my fav. Daily taco and soup specials are published on their FB page. Can't remember which chicken taco I ordered once, but it was underwhelming. Not the biggest fan of lining up to order at the counter. I like the vibe, you can tell they put a lot of effort into decorating and remodeling the old gas station. Be prepared to wait in line to order, its usually busy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America.
