A friend and I stumbled across Beirut Cafe late last week while looking for someplace out-of-the-ordinary to eat. The dining quarters were quite small with just a handful of tables but the experience was wholly wonderful. We started off with a sampler of appetizers including hummus with pita bread, babaghanouj, grape leaves and kibbee balls. All were exceptional! The flavors were remarkably fresh and worked well to whet our appetites further. The use of garlic was quite prevalent throughout all the items however, so vampires might want to steer clear of The Beirut Cafe! Once we devoured the maza (appetizer) we shared a plate of chicken kabobs over rice with a side of french fries. The sheer quantity of food on the plate was astounding. We shared indeed and still had leftovers to bring home. The chicken was not surprisingly imbued with a heavy dose of garlic and what I believe to be cinnamon. The bed of rice was flavored similarly and dare I say, seasoned to perfection. It was a fantastic platter. The side of fries was remarkable as well, particularly when dipped in the tahini or tzatziki sauce. Alcohol isn't served at Beirut Cafe but you can bring your own beer or wine for a small uncorking charge. This is certainly something that will be kept in mind for our next visit (which I expect to be sooner than later!) We opted for American coffee over it's Turkish counterpart (I love strong coffee but not when it's muddy and bitter) and loved it. The quality of the coffee was excellent. The pre-made desserts behind the glass case were wonderful as well. We took home a variety of baklawa and pastries made from sesame and pistachio. All were delicious! As others pointed out, the service was a tad slow due to the owners running the show themselves. This did not detract from our experience at all. In fact, the cafe's overall quaintness added to it's charm. When we arrived, we were the only patrons there. By the time we left, every table was full. There was joy and laughter in the air as if everyone were friends. Perhaps, great food unites. I look forward to our next meal at Beirut Cafe.

I randomly stopped in while in the area and was quite glad that I did. I ordered the hummus with meat and a gyro. Both were very tasty and I was quite satisfied. There service was very quick and friendly. Tried the walnut baklava on the way out and was not disappointed. They also have quite a few vegetarian options.

Just a short walk from my condo, but well worthwhile. Had the sampler, as advised by earlier reviewers. It was very flavoursome, and very good value. Followed by baklawa and Turkish coffee, all for less than $20. And my doggie bag will give me lunch tomorrow!

I was in the St. Pete's area for work a few weeks back and happened to find Beirut Cafe by chance. I am SO happy I did. The food and flavors were incredible. My friend and I got a few different items to split and enjoyed each of them immensely (including the desserts out of the case). If I lived in the area, I am certain that I would be a regular. In addition to the great food, the family that operates it is wonderful and welcoming. I could have not been more pleased with my visit.

This place is phenomenal. They owners are adorable and personable. If you get to talking, you figure out their stories should be a movie! The food is unbeatable at good prices. The fatoush is to die for. It's a fun place to do a dinner with a big family and share, or just with a friend. Order coffee after your meal and ask Hana to read your cup.

Excellent meal with a great atmosphere and friendly owners! We were visiting in St. Pete and saw this place in a plaza and had the most wonderful lunch! I highly recommend the Beirut Cafe

Four of stopped here for lunch and what a pleasant experience. The falafal and kibbies were the best I've ever tasted. Desserts (sweets) were fresh, homemade & delicious. The owner was our server and so kind and patient with us. I highly recommend this place!

When we walked in it was comfortable and quaint. The people running it were very nice and helpful as I had never had Lebanese food, The guy behind the counter helped me choose what to have. As we were sitting there waiting, I happen to look into the kitchen to see the same guy preparing our food with one hand and eating watermelon with other. I can overlook some things but not this. I told the guy to cancel our order and we would eat somewhere else. He didnt understand why. When I told him it was unsanitary to eat over someone else's food and he replied "its only watermelon" I was speechless, how do you respond to stupid?

Fantastic little find located in the same shopping center as Carmelita's. One of my favorite physicians that I call on is Lebanese and I thought bringing him food from here would be a nice touch. It's a small little spot run by a husband wife combo. The husband was so sweet and when he knew who I was taking the food to, he whipped up something extra special. My gosh! It was delish. There was kibbi, the fluffier falafel, stuffed grape leaves and a bread that looked like naan but topped with thyme. His display of Lebanese sweets was amazing too and I look forward to visiting again soon.

Having been to Beirut, I can say that this is as close to the real thing that you will ever find. The food was unbelievable. For starters we had the falafel, hummus, and the cucumber salad. All were very authentic with the delicious taste of garlic that you find in Lebanese dishes. The main course meals were just as pleasing. If you find yourself in Pinellas Park... This is a must visit place. Please do not be deceived by the small strip mall, this place rocks!

I would give this place a solid 4 and a half stars. The ambiance needs some reworking, but if you have never had Lebanese food this is the place to go in the St. Pete area. The food is all made in house and fresh. After ordering an appetizer, 2 entrees, and desert the server gave us a free piece of pie that his mother (the cook) use to make when he was little. The food was very very good. The prices are right, the service was outstanding. Based on the past reviews of this place and my experience this is a real hidden gem. Total recommend and I will be back.

I ordered a sampler platter of hummus, babaghanouj, grape leaves, falafel, and minouche. The food: OMG YES. The ambiance: This is a small, intimate, and casual little cafe with only eight tables, crammed in a shopping center between barber shops, motorcycle parts stores, and other little restaurants. Inside, it looks much like your favorite mom and pop breakfast place might look, except that, instead of framed pictures of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, you'll find costumes, figurines, cultural trinkets, maps, and framed photographs of Lebanese scenery. Soft Lebanese music plays in the background while you eat. It's hard not to eyeball the baked goods in pastry case-- Buy them. They are amazing. The service: I felt so welcome and comfortable, like I was a guest in someone's living room and the owners genuinely cared about being good hosts. I left with a full belly, garlic breath, and a smile on my face.

The most authentic Lebanese restaurant in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area. My family loves this place, great falafel, amazing pitas, and a shawarma that's to die for! We ordered in so not sure what the place looks like in sign all I know is that the food is great. This is quality Lebanese cuisine!

I accidentally stumbled upon this place on my way to another restaurant. After walking in to look at the phenomenal dessert showcase, I decided to stay for lunch and dessert. I had chicken kabobs and the cheese baklawa. If I could rate 10 stars I would! The owners are so friendly and everything is made from scratch. Superb! Can't wait to go back!

Ooohhhh my Lord we were very excited to visit this Arabian restaurant ... and what unexpected WELCOME from the lady (possible owner) was: Why guys don't sit in another table because we are expecting for more people to come today on Saturday and you guys can sit there in the corner and if nobody comes to the restaurant within an hour I will move you for this table ....She decided moved to an small table in the corner although the restaurant had empty tables availables . This place lacks outstanding customer service ....

I love this place. The owner is super friendly, warm and a very good cook. The food was delicious--I find that I crave the baklawa and the labneh. The restaurant is small and tucked away in a strip mall, but it is clean and uncluttered. Unfamiliar menu items were explained in detail and without impatience. The owner even came out and chatted with us over dessert--a nice homey feeling. I do not hesitate to recommend this place at all!

Simple, fresh ingredients thoughtfully combined into a satisfying experience. This includes the food, of course. The falafel pita was expertly balanced with warm, soft bread, crunchy veggies and buttery smooth falafel. The dark Turkish coffee was served piping hot and poured right into the cup at my table. And the homemade pastries were flaky and moist. Finally, the meal was served with genuine warmth and charm; so much so that I had to learn how to say thank you in Lebanese Arabic. Shoukran!

Beirut Cafe is one of the better places to visit if you are looking for casual, inexpensive comfort food that will satisfy both vegetarians and carnivores; the food preparation areas and utensils are kept separated by the wife, who is vegetarian herself. They solely serve home style Lebanese dishes such as kibbeh (made from bulghur, minced onion and ground meat), fattoush and shawarma (thinly sliced beef served with tahini in a pita wrap). My favorite vegetarian entrees include the mjadrah (lentils and rice), falafel, hummus and stuffed grape leaves. Sometimes they will have daily specials, my favorite of which alternates between the bazella and the stuffed cabbage. However, they really stand out for their case full of baklava and other pastries, which typically involve pistachios or walnuts; for a lighter dessert, their fluffy little banana cake is also tasty. The service is very good, and the owners are very friendly, taking the time to get to know their customers; the premises are very simple but clean. Two thumbs up!

We found this place last year when we were vacationing at the KOA. We planned all year to come back when we traveled here this year. It is a real find. The owners/cooks are fantastic. The soup of the day was Lentil and it was quite good. We had the owners son (our waiter) recommend the 5 choices for the sampler appetizer and they were amazing. The hummus is out of this world. Ate half of a half of the gyro, just too full, but it was delicious. We had the owner pick out her 6 favorite desserts for us to take home. Can't wait to try them. (We did share the Baklawa cheesecake when we got home. WOW)

Friendly & helpful staff/ owners who will take the time to answer your questions. Ambience - old but well maintained and clean. Food is very good, especially the baba ghannouj which is exceptional. Hard to go wrong here.

Wonderfully surprised by this small locally owned Lebanese restaurant. Everything is home made by what it seems is a husband and wife duo. The food was fresh and well seasoned. I can't get over the stuffed grape leaves, best I've ever had. They also have a wonderful array of traditional desserts which they dress with Rose water and crush pistachios. The prices were reasonable as well. Hope more people will support this place, I highly recommend it.

5* for the food; 5* for the service; 1* for the ambience; you go for the food. Our waiter Fares was friendly and helpful; I'm so glad we took his recommendations. We loved the mezze plate of 5 appetizers: fatoush salad (my favorite!), garlicky humus, babaghanouj, minouche flatbread and vegetarian stuffed grape leaves. We took Fares' recommendation for dessert; he recommended a dessert they don't usually have; forgot what they called it, but it resembled a sweet cheese blintz and he said it was a crepe stuffed with ricotta cheese. The cheapest meal I ate in the Tampa Bay area and one of the best!

Ok, love, love, love this place! Got the spinach pie, what a treat, it's delicious, lemony, and had a zesty kick. The hummus so garlicky, served with Sami's pita. We also got the kibbee platter, nutmeg and cinnamon meat pie delight. The tabouleh, absolutely fresh. And, the babaghanouj, yum. Farish took such good care of us. Oh, and don't forget the turkish coffee.

This is a little hole in the wall cafe, with plenty of seating, wonderful warmth and generous portions. I had the privlidge of eating here with fellow Yelper Tiffany H. today after we participated in a "Church", on her suggestion and the food was AMAZING. She had vegetarian fare, and I had their version of Meat pie. Everything was made to order and absolutely fresh. I have to admit that the only thing that was disappointing about it was that the CD/music player kept cutting out, so that the ambient music would leave us hanging. it's hard when you get 2 dancers together and the music just -stops- le sigh. Excellent service, excellent food and by all means make sure you try the fresh made bakalava! Its so damn good!

Food was okay. Kibbeh balls were burnt. The real disappoint was the young man at the counter who served us. He was brash, very abrasive so we won't be returning. Maybe he was having a bad day, but we were very nice and the only ones in the place so not sure what was wrong with him.

The owners make you feel like you're at home. The decor is a little crazy, but don't let it throw you off! It's the type of place where if you get talking with Hana, you'll spend half the day there drinking Turkish coffee and chatting. If you're limited with time, wait and go another time because it does take a while for food to be prepared (unless it's something sweet because they're pre-made and in a case). I've had a few different lunch options here, and they were all good, but the thing I keep craving and going back for (and stopping in for to-go orders) is the pistachio baklava. It's homemade and amazing. Seriously. I've had it in Tampa at Byblos and it's better here. I'm not sure why, maybe it's the syrup she uses. Definitely habit-forming.

This place has a lack of Customer Services, possible female owner, pretend to move two of us in the middle of our meal to small table due she think restaurant will be overflow by customers within an hour but place was at its 10% of the all seat available so we decide to leave to not interfere on her project business views and Thank you was given.

Finally found some legit Lebanese food here in St Pete! Wandered across this place by chance one day and I'm glad I did! In a town with no shortage of Greek food, I was still craving Kibbeh, falafel, tabouli, fatoosh, etc... that I grew up with. The Kibbeh here is exceptional! Fried, delicious and portioned well I was impressed. The falafel pita I ordered was great in flavor too as they add fava beans to to their mix. My only complaint is it could have been a little bigger for the price. Everything is cooked to order so you are guaranteed freshness! They feature many authentic pastries, baklava, and sweets that look delicious and can't wait to try on my next visit! Nothing beats my Grandmother's Lebanese cooking growing up, but at least I now have a place in town to get my fix!

The best falafel I have ever had in my life. Beirut Café, never change. I never would have thought that everyday living in Tampa Bay would be an adventure. There are so many local businesses and hidden places to find. I love the shopping plaza location, filled to the brim with awesome small businesses of all types. Window shopping galore. One of the many restaurants in the plaza is the humble Beirut Café, and they make all of their breads and pastries from scratch. Yes, never change your adorable family atmosphere. When I visit, I feel like I am being welcomed into the owner's home. The mother even decorates the tables for the season; so lately there are Easter decorations on the table. This is not the type of restaurant that you are used to... it is more like the family put many tables into their dining room and invited you over. The waiter and cashier is the son, and he is very friendly and knowledgeable about every ingredient in each dish. He is also very proud of his family recipes, and rightfully so. I told him, "This is the best falafel I have ever had!" He was very pleased and yelled into the kitchen to his father to let him know the comment, then proceeded to tell me why it is the best. An amazing experience! Who needs meat when you can eat this light and airy falafel? Filled with just the right amount of spices, covered in a crisp and whispy crust. I tried the 5 Plate Sampler and the Meat Pie. Since they make their own dough, the crust is simply magnificent and crispy all the way through. I cannot wait to return and try the cheese pie.

I came to this place after several of my friends had recommended it. I went for lunch at around 1:30 and was greeted nicely. I ordered the falafel platter that had 3 large falafels with a small side of tahini and a good amount of babaganush and tabouleh. The falafel was fantastic! The babaganush was some of the best I've ever had if not the best. It was rich with fire roasted eggplant and garlic. Just the right amount of tahini and lemon. The tabouleh was nice and refreshing. The owners were very nice and even offered me some coffee at the end. Great experience! Will surely be back

Best food ever! Warm with spices, rich in flavor and oh so good! Service was excellent and I have at least half my meal going home with me! There is nothing quite like really good Lebanese food! Small and cozy restaurant. Even the bathroom was so pretty!

I really enjoyed this place during my first visit. It is situation in a strip mall on Park Street and is truly a hidden gem. My fiancé and I got two wraps: he the Shawarma and I the falafel. We also got the hummus appetizer. The hummus was by far the best I've ever had. So flavorful and with a little kick. They also include a side of pita. My only complaint was that the pita wasn't warm, but I know not everyone likes it warm. My falafel wrap was delicious. It was fresh and flavorful. The wrap itself also had a perfect blend of veggies. Again, the only complaint was that the pita wasn't warm. I know this is a short review, but I plan on trying more menu items so I can expand on my review. Can't wait to visit again!

I hesitate to write this review for purely selfish reasons: if people knew how good it really is, there would be lines around the block. Fortunately, it is typical at least in this part of the world, only to line up for slightly better than mediocre chain restaurants. As usual, I digress. I have been unable to find a place in this part of the world which can make felafel. Some local Greek restaurants make passable falafel but not great falafel. The Beirut Cafe makes GREAT felafel, moist and light and flavorful to the max. My wife had a felafel wrap (which she prefers to eat unwrapped for some reason), but the fresh ingredients were beautifully constructed and it was so delicious. My Baba Ghanouj was creamy and flavorful and garlicky and just wonderful with a bit of olive oil served with a fine pita. The authentic Lebanese version of Tabouleh, which uses more parsley than bulgur, was a delightful accompaniment to my Kibbeh, itself so delightfully flavored that I wondered how they were able to achieve such subtlety. It, too, was also very moist and delicious. At the end of lunch we were just stuffed to the gills. While my wife asked me questions about the many things in the display case (some of which I didn't know) our extremely pleasant young waiter (son of the owners) asked us if we had ever seen a baklava cheesecake. neither of us had and he said his mother had made it just the night before, After showing it to us, we were unable to resist: it DEFINITELY was not a Lebanese dish...but it was soooooo delicious, served with rosewater instead of honey. I can't say enough about it except I didn't think I could move afterwards. My wife bought one of the large anise cookies that look like a sliced bagel for later. If you love anise, you will love the cookie. One mistake my wife made was to order the regular coffee. I was eager for REAL coffee and was not disappointed with the stuff that leaves the mud in the bottom of the cup. However when she said hers was weak, the water promptly added some of the Turkish coffee to hers and all was well. One ought to realistically wonder how I am able to give 5 stars to a place which serves food which is not all that divergent from standard Middle Eastern fare and that's a reasonable question. My response is that the food was so well prepared and it was such a joy to taste the real thing properly prepared that I really can't restrain myself. Everyone seems so happy here that you just feel good sitting down too! Besides that, I could very easily give the extra star for the Baklava Cheesecake. Definitely original, it was just too good not to rave about. I will be returning soon!

We had the appetizer sampler plate (hummus, babaghanouj, minouche, kibbee) and a spinach pie. They were all tasty & a little different than others we've had. Several variations on baklava-type desserts, most interesting being cashew. Well worth a visit.

Ever have one of those meals where you just don't want to stop eating, no matter how full you are? That was my experience Friday at Beirut Cafe. The tabouleh was sensational. Really sensational. Fresh, lemony, garlicky and loaded with parsley. Very light and very fresh. Then the babaganoush: it really doesn't get much better. Creamy, tart, and with a garlic bite that first surprises and then captures you. Or at least captured me. The beef kabob was fine, the pita wedges soft, warm, wholly delicious, and the cashew baklava and Turkish coffee a great ending to this meal. Guess this is a rave review--did I mention that the service is as pleasant as the food in this tiny place? Closes pretty early during the week, at least, so don't go late. But do go.
