We were looking for good pizza. The yelp reviews really helped! I'm originally from NY, and since living in FL I just assumed I would never have great pizza again ( aside from my trips back home to NYC). Some of our group had ordered pizza another night from another place and were quite dissatisfied. But Sal's was delish! Their pizza was a hit! We ordered several pies including a veggie (the Palermo) a meat lovers and some pies of cheese and pepperoni. Sal's nailed the crust BIG-TIME! Many times I find that pizzas with lots of toppings are soggy but not Sal's! Oh and have their garlic knots/cheese sticks they were a hit - the three orders of them flew out of the boxes - they were just right and not too oily as many often are. Definitely would order again. Friendly service, reasonable prices, and good quality ingredients.

Ordered the pizza and frutte di marre. The pizza was fine but the frutte di marre was terrible. There were 10 mussels - 8 of them were unopened as in bad and not edible which unacceptable as someone was preparing the food and should have seen that the majority did not open. Would not order again.

Our friends wanted us to go out for pizza with them. We have been in Florida for three years and so far we were unable to find pizza that we liked. I told our friends that we were pizza snobs and probably would not like the pizza and suggested we go somewhere else. They said we should try it and so we relented. I was still convinced we would put our noses up when the pizza came to our table. I was so wrong. Sal was there when we walked in and he was very gracious. He genuinely wants you to like his food. The place smelled like good pizza so our attitude started to change to the positive. The pizza came to the table. Looked good. Smelled good. IT WAS GOOD. The crust was just right. The sauce was perfect. I was thrilled. Our search has ended. We also had two delicious salads. Sal's serves wine and beer. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

After reading rave reviews about Sal's Pizzeria on Tripadvisor and Yelp, we decided going to Sal's was in order as we were on vacation and had OD'd on seafood. We ate at the physical location, which is best described as a hole in the wall. Both Sal and our server were extremely personable. The fact that they have beer on draft was an added plus. I have to say the pizza was absolutely the best (we ordered the Chicken Parmesan) that I have had in years. I am typically underwhelmed by sauces as they are not flavored properly but Sal's pizza from the sauce to the toppings was absolutely divine. The house salad and caesar were excellent as well...the later having hand made croutons in the mix. I highly recommend and look forward to visiting Sarasota again not only for the great city/beach but for this amazing pizza. Two enthusiastic thumbs-up! Sal is a true pizza god. I look forward to trying one of his traditional italian dishes and updating this review.

I have to be honest. Sal's was not our first choice for a meal this past Monday. We were initially headed to Dolce Italia nearby, but then found that they're closed on Mondays. A quick Yelp search led us to Sal's. The exterior isn't impressive, but they had good reviews. We figured why not and grabbed some seats within view of the guy tossing the pizza dough. (who we later figured out was Sal himself!) Well, I'm very glad Docle Italia was closed, because I had the best stromboli I've ever had in my life. We got our large stromboli with pepperoni, sausage, and banana peppers. Just thinking about it is making me salivate again. On top of that, it's huge. It barely fits on a pizza pan after IT'S CUT IN HALF. And for $9.95, it's an amazing deal. We also got a medium meat lover's pizza and baked ziti. Both also delicious. Especially the ziti. My wife comes from a family of Sicilian immigrants, so she's pretty picky with pasta, but she loved it as well. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Siesta Key. Actually, we're here for another 3 days... maybe I can convince the family to come here one more time...

Amy S Always a great time at Sals. Great pizza and friendly staff. We never leave there hungry or unsatisfied. My kids are very picky eaters and they really love the cheese pizza. You must try the number 6 it is always delicious!!! Don't miss out!

Wife and I wanted pizza on our last night in Siesta Key and found Sal's on Yelp. There were a couple other pizza joints within a block when we pulled up so we started to second guess ourselves. We decided to stay the course and boy were we glad we did. The pizza (medium meat lovers) was fantastic! Some of the best we've ever had. Crispy thin crust, great cheese and sauce. Toppings were excellent. The Salad was not as great. Italian dressing was bland. Almost knocks off a star but the pizza redeems all. Truly that good. We will definitely be back to Sal's if we come back to the area.

Frequent visitor to the Sarasota area, specifically Siesta Key. This little gem was a great find! Wanted pizza cuz we just got to town and didn't wanna deal with the chain restaurants on a Sunday night. This place is very chill with a great laid back vibe. They offer dine-in, carry-out and delivery. Good menu of pizza, pasta, calzones, salads and appetizers. Lunch specials too. Smallish dining room with about 6 tables but totally comfortable. We took a table by the window and ordered a kids pasta with meatballs, large caesar salad and an extra-large pizza. Coming from Chicagoland I'm a pizza snob: Sal's did not disappoint! If you're in the area, stop in and support this gem of a local business. The good food will make ur belly happy too!

The guy who answers the phone is a ass. And I ordered a pizza 2 hours ago and they said it was on the way. I called one hour after they said it would be there and they told me to deal with it. It's now 2 hours and I still don't have pizza. the sad part is that the food is good.

Sals pizza is the Best pizza i have had in town. His ingredients are fresh and he aims to please. his sandwiches are made on a fresh baked pizza bread. my husband like the pig in a blanket and Sal was out.. My husband was disappointed and Sal sent his delivery guy out for hotdogs and had the stuff delivered to our home in less than an hour. My kids love the place and so do we. They also are one of the very few places that deliver to Siesta Key...

Ordered take out and was disappointed. We got a cheese pizza, penne primavara, chicken park, and anti pasta salad. The pizza was ok, pasta bland, chicken parm over cooked and anti pasta underwhelming. I would not go back or recommend..

They're from Jersey, what can I say. They know pizza. We always stop by when we are in the neighborhood for a slice or two. Then we take home 2 pies and at least 4 dinners. Yes, go. Worth the trip. Order something to take home, you'll be hungry later.

Clearly NY pizza, not really good for that either. Sausage looks like crumbled hamburger. No real flavor. Soggy crust. Greasy to top it off. No real service. Had to get food/drinks at counter. Capresie salad was average. No fresh basil. I personally would not recommend it, but there are some that might like it. Sandwich someone else ordered looked good.

My companion and I stopped by this place for lunch recently and were greeted by, what appeared to be, the owner of the joint. Well, not greeted exactly. I wouldn't call a cold look without a hello or smile a greeting. Anyway, we are from the dessert where carrying a water bottle with you everywhere is a common practice. I have one and I take it everywhere I go. I had it with me during my visit to Sal's. When I walked through the door, almost immediately he said, "no outside beverages" sharply. I replied with "it's just water" in which he responded, "I don't care." He almost seemed angry about it. I know it may not sound like much when you're reading this but I honestly felt embarrassed and didn't want to be there anymore. We're in a foreign place to begin with. Everything is a little uncomfortable already. I understand that you don't want outside beverages; your place, your rules. Just please be polite about it and ask me kindly to leave it outside or offer to replace it with water from your tap. When you border on being confrontational no one will want to be around you. There is simply no time to deal with rude service nowadays regardless of how great your product is. We had pizza across the street at Rico's. It was great!

Sal is there making the pizza, pasta and clones every night! Great selection of specialty pizzas and tons of toppings to create your own. Best pizza crust I have had since moving south. Crisp, folds perfectly and the cheese is not greasy. Turns out the owner and family are originally from New Jersey. All the sauces and entrees, I was told were homemade. On this day, we went with the lunch special of 2 slices and a 24oz drink for $5.99. Great deal. The slices were fresh and delicious. Planning the next lunch this week.

As an Ohioan pizza lover, I have to say this pie is flawless! Great crust, friendly people, generous toppings. Two large pizzas with four toppings was about $38. The slices are huge, so expect leftovers if you order two pizzas for a family of four. We will make it back next summer!

Originally from NY and in Siesta Key for vacation. Decided to stop for lunch before watching World Cup across the street and boy, am I glad my brother Eddie and I did. Phil was very friendly and enjoyed chatting with him. Pizza was REALLY good. We had medium meat lovers minus the salami. Medium was good for two people with generous appetites. If you like New York style pizza, this place is for you. I hope people who live in this area "find" this place because it is too good to be as empty as it was.

Best pizza I've had so far in all of Florida! Small, family-owned business from a guy in NJ. Friendly service, tasty pizza that is authentic NY style without the audacity to say so. If you're on vacation, it'll be one of the cheapest meals you'll have in the area. Casual pizza eatery, no complaints here.

Good stuff. Tried Sal's out based on the reviews, and it was great. Ordered delivery, meatball sub and fries. Simple sandwich, but places do mess it up ( Cheap sauce or frozen meatballs, you know the type) But Sal's nailed it. Good sauce, fresh meatballs and mozz. Also, in my mind, attention to detail: They cut up the meatballs a bit so the sammi was more, how do I say, balanced. I don't like when places put 3 enormous meatballs and you have to eat around them like a nut job. Delivery: Took my order even though my order was small, one sub and fries. Also, was fresh when I received it, not like it had sat around for 1/2 hour. I will definitely be ordering again. Can't wait to try the pizza!

Either I've lived in Florida for long enough that I've forgotten what real NY pizza tastes like, or I just found a GREAT place for a slice here! Given that it's still less than 2 years since my big relocation, and factoring in the total number of slices I ate while living in NYC for 5 years, I'm pretty sure that I can still consider myself a fair pizza critic, and this passed with flying colors. This is not a gourmet, fancy, brick-oven slice, this is a true, NY style, fold-over, crispy crusted, melty cheese slice. Just a good, no-frills, plain, classic cheese slice- and exactly what I wanted. The salad was nothing particularly exciting, but did include a fresh veggies (carrots, lettuce, tomatoes) and olive slices, and my side of blue cheese dressing was above average with decent sized chunks. For $4.99 to get a slice of pizza, a soda and a salad for a quick lunch was a great deal. I will absolutely be back! Thanks Sal's!

Good pizza is hard to find in Sarasota - Sal's is as good as it gets if you like New York style pizza (even if Sal is proudly from New Jersey). Great crispy crust, fresh veggie toppings - a first class standard pizza made with love. When I asked Sal - "you're from the northeast aren't you?" he replied - "yeah, you can taste it in the pizza, right?" - Sal was right.

Judy S.
I've been trying to find pizza to my liking in Sarasota... crust-wise... and Sal's offers a simply great pizza crust. Thin, pretty crispy - not greasy - not chewy. The toppings are what we expect in pizza - nothing fancy - but very good simple, basic toppings. You can order a specialty pizza or select your toppings from a list - nothing fruity but usual meats, pepperoni - veggies etc. The restaurant is tiny - tucked between several other restaurants on Gateway - but worth a visit. Looks like most customers do carry out - but there are enough tables (at least 6 tables for 4 as I recall) - that if you like your pizza piping hot - you just might want to sit down and eat right there! Sal's also delivers in the Siesta Key/Gateway Gulf Gate area. Sal's also offers pasta dishes, calzones and more. Sal himself is from New Jersey and you can be sure he knows pizza! Even though the Siesta Key location has closed - if you call that number you'll be re-directed to Sal's on Gateway (same Sal) and if you have it delivered you'll be pleased to get your Sal's pizza or other dish as you did before.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

$24 Pizza that has absolutely no flavor at all. This is a huge pass too many others in Gulf Gate to settle for this.
