I'm not really a fan of Ruth's Chris. The sizzling 500 degree plate with molten butter tends to over cook the steak (unless you eat really fast!!!) I don't really understand the draw. Some people love it. The service, however, is quite good. For the price, ($200+ for 2 adults and 2 kids) they had better be!!! There are not many options in the SRQ for a good steak......well, except maybe my back yard!

This is place awesome. Sat at 630 promptly for a Christmas Day dinner. The staff were positive and pleasant. 3 of the filets were under cooked. They gladly took back the steaks and cooked them to our liking. However, one steak came back a bit overcooked. The server sensed our disappointment and sent over the manager on call, who addressed the issue in a professional and courteous manner. We received our bill and saw that desserts were comped. A great costumer service and management here at Ruth Chris. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

Excellent, as usual -- both the food and the service. Lots of people go to Ruth's for the steaks (as they should), but they also have the best fish I've ever eaten. This time I had the salmon over tomatoes and spinach, but I usually eat the sea bass. One of my companions on this trip had the chicken and everyone at our table tried some and said it was delicious.

I've been to the Sarasota location once for dinner and several times for happy hour. From 4:30-7:00PM you can get an amazing steak sandwich or burger for only $7.00! The service is awesome, the atmosphere is, what can say, it's Sarasota. Will return, for sure.

I've been coming to this Ruth's Chris forever. It's a family affair. Whenever I am visiting my parents, we try to get to Ruth's for a night. We usually request Steve as our server, since he is the best. =D What I like about Ruth's is that you know you are getting quality food every time. Here's a breakdown of the last meal we ordered: Steak Filet, medium rare. A Melt-in-your mouth cut of beef. Can't go wrong. Stuffed chicken breasts. Extremely tasty. Scallops - Served just right, and there are enough to make a meal here. (I usually order the steak - like a strip, for example - but I thought I would be different today). My brother ordered the potato au gratin, which he swears by. I usually get mushrooms as my side dish, which are always good. Can't go wrong with the salads either. Wine selection is massive. (We got the Seghesio red zin, roughly 57 bucks). That brings me to the price. Everything here is pricey, but that is just how it is. Don't let the fact that Ruth's is a chain throw you off. Obviously nobody is going to come here every night, but for special occasion dinners, you can't go wrong. Bonus points for letting my dad come in on his birthday dressed in a full Scottish kilt.

Went there last week with 2 friends. Had the filet. If this was supposed to be a prime graded piece of meat, they are blowing smoke. A lonely piece of bread was also placed on the table. Hardly enough for one more or less 3. Price wise, too expensive for the experience U get eating there. Overall not great.

Five of us went to dinner on New Year's Day. We have never been there before and we're looking forward to it. Paid $300 without drinks. For this price , two of our meals were cooked wrong. I ordered a medium well and it arrived rare. Sent it back and it came back shriveled and well done. A $10 steak from Applebee's would have been better. The colored carrots looked unappetizing and tasted that way. The ceaser salad, the creamed spinach, and turtle cheesecake was mediocre . Since two meals out of five were wrong, they upgraded our deserts, Two of us had upgraded cheesecake desserts and they were mediocre as well. One table next to us had to send their steak back as well. The wait staff were apologizing to us and two other tables by us. Unbelievable! Given the prices one would expect a very high quality meal, not so. On a scale of 1 - 10 it is a 2. Don't know how they stay in business. Obviously riding on a false reputation. We'll never go back as there are way too many other good quality places to go.
What has recently happened to Ruth's Chris? We have had dozens of meals (all steaks) at Ruth's in Sarasota and other cities. In over twenty years we have never experienced a tough steak; until recently that is. We have returned twice in the past six weeks with the same friends and on both occasions have had steaks, both rib eyes and NYstrips which have been tough (to the point of difficult to cut with a steak knife). Neither of us are inclined to return meals and we both suffered through half of the steaks and 'took the remainder home' and threw them in the garbage. They have got to be getting their steaks from a new distributor because this is too much of a coincidence that the last six steaks were under par even for an inexpensive restaurant at one third the price of Ruth's Chris. Too bad! What was once our favorite steak by far has become mediocre at best and carries with it a very high price tag. Goodbye Ruth's Chris.

We were there Saturday night, with month long reservations, with a wedding party of 16. We arrived at 6:20 and had to wait an hour for salads. It was another hour before our dinner arrived. Of the 14 adult entrees, 5 went back to the kitchen for temperature errors. Of the 5, 2 went back again. One of the children's entrees went back as well. One guest was charged for a drink she didn't receive until right before we left after complaining about setting it on her bar tab. This was my first experience at this restaurant. After this experience I won't go back. I felt horrible for the Bride and Groom who paid for this mess and whose day was ruined by the kitchen's incompetence. What should have been fun, delicious and worry free was anything but.

I took my date here, definitely a night to remember, the food was promptly and professionally taken care of for us. We ordered a classic set and was able to share that with my significant other and believe me, I was struggling to finish my portion of it. They are very generous with the portions. I would recommend this place regardless if you dress fancy or casual. But hopefully fancy as it'll make you feel top class. My date and I dressed formally and we felt very much in place even though there were other customers that did not wear formal wear, our waitress commented on our outfits and said she wishes more people would dress up and we wished so as well. I did read onto the other reviews prior to going but went on a recommendation. So go with a open mind. Everyone's experience isn't the same.

This staff did an outstanding job on a very busy, height of tourist season, evening! Our meal was perfect. I would return for the best shrimp cocktail since dining in New Orleans! A very special experience for our Anniversary! The rose petals on the table for dessert still makes me smile!

Consistently good steaks, sides and service. I usually get the filet, but after trying a bite of someone's ribeye, I may have to diverge and go for the fattier, tasty cut. Ruth's Chris restaurants serve their steaks on a sizzling buttery hot dish and if you cut your steak and it falls cut side down, it will cook your steak to almost well done, so be sure to keep your steak upright. Their sides are pretty much what you would expect and taste fantastic. Creamed spinach is my favorite; it's not too creamy/fatty with the perfect ratio of spinach to cream. The harvest salad and dressing were impressive. Of the desserts, the flourless chocolate cake, which is no longer on the menu but sometimes available is melt in your mouth, rich, decadent and delicious. Creme brulee would be second choice then chocolate explosion. Lastly, I just discovered their happy hour menu too, which offers $7 items. The staff is extremely professional, food is prepared perfectly, restaurant is clean: all the makings of a perfect dining experience.

Only come here on special occasions because it is so pricey. I just went here on my three year anniversary with my boyfriend and got this sense of attitude from the staff that because we are young that we're inferior. My boyfriend is 21 and I'm 19, we've been told we look very young but no one should give off that kind of an attitude. Food was great though! Our unusually close table neighbors were very friendly. food is always great and always have plenty for leftovers. My favorite dessert is the molten lava cake! I always see girls, and grown "women" in booty shorts and bare feet on the booth seat, I guess no one believes in a classy restaurant anymore. Are they allowed to set a dress code? I think they should.

We have dined at Ruth Chris many times, and particularly like this location. Staff is always very accommodating. As they were on this recent visit to celebrate our sons 18th birthday. Eight people in our party and we were seated in a private dining room adjacent to the main dining room. Very quaint, nice to be able have a conversation with the whole table and not have to shout over neighboring tables conversations. Table was decorated with happy birthday confetti and a hand-signed card from the entire staff. Nice touches to personalize the experience. Food was delicious as always ... Some of us had steak, some seafood. All great! Especially the sea bass! As always, well worth the money spent on this celebration!

This was my first time at the Sarasota restaurant and we were there to celebrate our anniversary. I have been dining at Ruth Chris Steakhouse since the 80's. Always a great experience. I do need to say the side dishes should be updated. I definitely can make creamed spinach better than what I was served. The atmosphere, service and the main entree was fabulous. The staff made us feel special from the time we arrived until we departed. We'll be back again for birthdays, etc. Loved it! thanks to all!
Heaven in a Steak! OK, maybe a bit extreme, but WOW, what a steak. This was a birthday surprise was this worth every penny that was spent! I got a Filet Mignon with as much flavor as I think can be packed into a steak. The shoestring fries are truly shoestring and interesting nibble on. I can't wait to go back next year for my birthday again.

Ate here once on occasion. Amazing food, and service was good. I was surprised by the look of the place though. For being talked up as being such a fancy place to go. It felt like an old persons banquet hall. The front room looked ok. But we had a bigger group and sat in the back room. The sliding walls are very old school, reminded me of my elementary schools cafeteria. Definitely needs a decor revamp for sure, and the place would be alot better.
Wow! Came here for their "Happy Hour" from 5-7, on most weekdays, I think, and it was really wonderful! They have a great little Happy Hour menu with about 6 or 7 food items on it, all for $7 each, and I had the Steak Sandwich, which was, like, one of the best steak sandwiches I've ever had! Plus, to drink, they have a bunch of interesting mixed drinks and they had a passable House Merlot, too, also for $7 bucks for a large glass, and, well, all in all, it was a great experience that I would very definitely recommend!

Last night we went to Owen's Fish Camp. Owen's was disappointing so we are hoping to enjoy some familiar cuisine here at Ruth Chris. When we called to confirm HH Jeff answered the phone and he was very nice. I asked him if Blueberry Mojitos were on the HH menu and he checked with the bar and then said no. When we got to Ruth Chris all the 4 seater tables in the bar were taken. We had to sit at a 6 seater table. My mother who uses a cane had the Dickens of a time getting up onto the bar stool. Then she had to climb down again, she's only 5'1" and then she had to climb up again. As it turned out the Blueberry Mojito is printed on the HH menu. The bartender / waiter came back to our table after we put or order in and said the Blueberry Mojitos are not sold at HH price. Excuse Me? I asked him to bring the HH menu. He did and discover that Oh Yeah it is on the HH menu. I asked the bartender it to muddle the spearmint too much. My drink came out with NO SPEARMINT! I didn't even have any muddle blueberries in my glass? Presentation of the Blueberry Mojito was good. He remembered to string the blueberries on the toothpick and set the toothpick on the glass. We know the menu cause we eat at Ruth Chris in Fort Worth EVERY SUNDAY. Our seating is MUCH MORE pleasant and comfortable in Fort Worth, TX. We have wonderful private booths. The fries were so inferior and such small pieces. It looked like they took the end of a bag that shoulda been trashed a few orders ago. Well i trashed them on this order! Barnacle Bill's fries were WAY better! We ordered our cheeseburgers med well and they both came out charred? We could even taste the burn. Medium well has a pink center. This didn't. There is NO WAY I would trust these people with an expensive steak. Corporate should come to this restaurant and teach their cook the difference between medium well and well. I asked the bartender to package the meal cause my daughter was driving in from Miami and we had to go pick her up at the airport where she rented the car. The bartender did not bother to deliver the update that we were gonna take the burgers with us. So a young man came out of the back with those burgers and was ready to serve them and then our bartender informed him that we are gonna take the burgers. It took them forever to pack them up! Before we got home we stopped at Barnacle Bill's.

What can I say about our experience when the best part was the complementary valet staff who were very nice. Service poor to fair, took 3 people to refill my water glass, took 2 people to get me a bread plate & then both of our bread plates were removed before the entrees arrived. Soups arrived well before we were done our appetizer & the wait staff acted like it was our fault. Cook needs to learn how to cook brussel sprouts. Our were hard & raw. Creamed spinach was ok. Meat was tasty. Way too expensive for the experience. Could have gotten the same meal with better service at our competitor.

Dont even get me started the steak here is AMAZING defiantly get the filet. medium rare the best in my opinion but if you like it cooked more it doesn't matter because ruth chris is the best. They practically melt in your mouth. Also the bleu cheese crust is great along with the mushrooms on the side. no other steakhouse compares.

My sister & I took my mom to the Sarasota Ruth's Chris for her birthday the other night. I booked our table online & noted that we would be celebrating a birthday. We arrived fairly early for our reservation (forgot there's never anyone on the road on Sunday evenings in Sarasota), but they were able to seat us immediately. (They nicely gave us the option, though, in case we had arrived early to have a drink at the bar before dinner.) We were taken to our table, which had confetti sprinkled over it & a little birthday card waiting for my Mom -- cute touch. My sister eats at the Orlando location all the time as she works in the medical field and apparently "doctors love Ruth's Chris." She made a few suggestions, including the ahi tuna appetizer, which I had. Delicious! Perfectly prepared, tender, with a nice kick from the pepper crust & mustard sauce. My mom had the escargot & artichoke app, which she said was very garlicky & yummy. Mom & sis both had the chopped salad -- looked good. Our entree filets were cooked perfectly to order. I got mine with the blue cheese crust, which -- eh. Would've been better as straight blue cheese; as is it was lacking a little oomph. Sides were great -- baby spinach and asparagus. For dessert, they brought my mom a complimentary chocolate mousse dish, served with fresh berries. I also order a creme brulee (her favorite) for us to share. Both were very good, if a bit standard. Service throughout the meal was excellent. Attentive, efficient, appropriately timed. The one negative was the latte I ordered with dessert. It was *bad*. As in, the milk was curdled or sour or something. BAD. A relatively small complaint, and one I'm sure they would have promptly corrected had I brought it to their attention. It was the end of the meal, though, and frankly I didn't feel like bothering. Overall, great meal, great service & a nice place to celebrate a birthday.

Service could be better for a highly touted chain. After 3 experiences at the same location, I have yet to have a "wow" experience. Food quality is sensational. Overall: you won't be disappointed if you're looking for good food with classic ambiance.

I love love love Ruth's Chris! I've been here twice, once my parents and I happened to stumble upon it, not realizing that it was a high end classy restaurant, so we were all in jean's and t-shirts but the staff didn't act like it phased them at all. Second time my parents and I went, it was for my 18th birthday and we had invited of our closet friends. The service was impeccable. The staff even let us look around the kitchen, simply out of curiosity and it was spotless and smelled very clean. If you ever go here, bring it up and ask if you can see the kitchen. They did it for us without hesitation.

Outstanding food, consistent with other RC in other markets. The meal was truly exceptional from the apps all the way to the dessert. Excellent wine list with wide range of high end wines and price points. Service was what knocked the review from a 5 to a 4. We had a lovely tall young brunette waitress who never filled up the wine glasses, let our first bottle get emptied and then after 15 minutes we had to ask someone else for the wine. Dishes stayed on the table too long after we were done eating. Still would go back.

A true dining experience from the moment you enter. The filet mignon steak was my choice and it could not have been better. Perfectly prepared. Veggies were fantastic and those with an appetite will find the appetizers surperb. Quiet atmosphere, comfortable seating and you will never be crowded on top of other diners. This is very important to me. I go as ofter as I can afford it, a great value for what you get. This is the best restuarant in Sarasota, by far. Have never been disappointed.

This was the first Ruth's I ever had the pleasure of attending. I am a believer because of this place. Since then, it is one of the few places I will order steak when eating out. Go there. Now. PS - The bread is also amazing. We ate 6 loaves.

This is the second time we've eaten at this location while on vacation and once again, it was excellent. Rob, our waiter was great and everyone enjoyed the food. We all got the seasonal menu where you can get the soup or salad, steak or other entree, a side and dessert. Even the included dessert was good. There's a unique cocktail selection and complimentary valet parking. Service from start to finish is excellent.

Love the steak here. Cooked to perfection! Even the desserts are delicious (favorite is the warm apple tart yumm...). The staff is very nice. I tend to come here only for special occasions due to the price. Make reservations and let them know you are celebrating (insert here) and they dress up your table for you. My husband takes me here for my birthday and sometimes our anniversary. :)

I have to say from the outset that I am not a steak man. Pasta, salad, chicken and rice are more my style but if anyone could get me to convert, it would be Ruth's Chris. This steak house in Sarasota serves great, tasty meat plus the side dishes like potatoes are huge and buttery. You can't eat one of their steaks unless you have a huge appetite so it's best to share them. But if you really love steaks, and can put one away by yourself, then go here. The service is excellent, the portions large but the price is getting higher all the time so it is not the bargain it used to be back in the day.

The service and cocktails are pretty impressive here. That's really the only good thing I have to say about the place, though. The 'Prime' steak I thought I was going to enjoy was about the same quality as what I'd pick up at a Wal-Mart meat counter and the sides were either underdone (the steak fries) or covered in way too much sauce (asparagus with hollandaise). If you're going to eat at a high-end chain steakhouse in the area for the quality of the food, do yourself a favor and go to Fleming's or Hyde Park - both deliver a much better experience. Personally, I'm giving up in Sarasota for steak and I'll just keep driving to Tampa to go to Bern's from now on.

If you like butter then this is the place for you. I had the filet mignon (béarnaise sauce was excellent) and my husband had the porterhouse, both were medium rare as requested. Unfortunately, the butter overpowered the taste of the meat. The presentation of the dishes were less than subpar and unappetizing. Typically, before a plate is served to a customer, it is wiped clean around the edges of a plate. There were actually smudged fingerprints of food on our plates. Nothing pretty about any plate served to us and for a $200 dinner for two people we expected much more. Taste and presentation were very disappointing. Service was prompt and friendly. Sorry to say we will not be back.

I always see girls, and grown "women" in booty shorts and bare feet on the booth seat, I guess no one believes in a classy restaurant anymore. Are they allowed to set a dress code? I think they should.

Pricey but excellent food. Our steaks were perfect! When ordering, know that side dishes are suitable for two people to share. Service exceptional from hostess to waiter.

I've been to many a Ruth Chris Steak House and this is one of the better ones. As expected the steaks are terrific and as always cooked to a tasty perfection. Their salads, always the freshest of produce and with their Caesar covered with a nice shaved cheese. However, thought they will serve a Caesar with anchovies, it really isn't an anchovy Caesar, merely a Caesar with a couple of out of the can, dark, European, "Engraulis encrasicolus" not white, "alici" type. The interior is light walled with dark molded wood accents, sort of a gentlemen's club type of décor and the service; uniformed and superlative. I don't particularly car for the valet service, it's good, but that is just because I'd rather be able to park my own car than have what I find to be the hassle of fooling around with valets, any valets. Is it pricey? You bet it's pricey but in my opinion worth it. One great thing I really like about it was the simplicity I experienced in making last minute reservations using Yelp on my Andriod Phone. It worked out perfectly.

We've eaten at a number of Ruth's Chris locations around the country and usually visit the Sarasota location once a year or so. Reservations were placed through the internet and a table was awaiting our arrival. The décor here is bright and like a very nice country club dining room rather than the traditional "old" steak house atmosphere of a Bern's or the "original" (before they became chains) Palm or Morton's. Four of us had dinner and all opted for a listed "complete" meal on the menu. Ruth's Chris like many high end steak houses used to offer everything Ala Carte with huge "family" portion side dishes. The menu now also currently lists dinners with one side, salad and dessert at a $39.95 and $49.95 price point. This may be a sign of the economic times or just a different marketing approach. Nonetheless it does simplify ordering. We started with an appetizer for the table of their perfectly fried thick cut Tempura Onion Rings which are served with a spicy Thai dipping sauce. They quickly disappeared. Everyone chose Filet's, with the women getting a more petit cut ($39.95) which included three shrimp that were described as fantastic and tasting "as good as lobster". The larger cut ($49.95) does not include the shrimp. Everyone's steak served in the Ruth's Chris sizzling style (mmmmm...butter) was perfectly cooked as ordered. And don't forget that great steaks deserve béarnaise sauce, an excellent way to get your tarragon fix and a few extra calories too. Various sides ordered were Creamed Spinach, Corn Casserole, and Mashed Potatoes. We additionally ordered for the table Lyonnaise Potatoes. All hot, delicious, and perfectly prepared. The only aspect of the meal that was not exceptional was the Caesar salad I ordered. It certainly wasn't bad, just nothing impressive and I thought lacking flavor although it came exactly as I ordered it with two plump anchovies. Everyone else had the House Signature salad and we're pleased. Dinner was completed with a serving of wonderful Carrot Cake and a Chocolate Mousse in its own chocolate cup. It's no surprise that the food at Ruth's Chris is excellent. What made this evening better than just great food was the service. We were fortunate to have as our server Steve and his assistant waiter. We recall having had him on previous visits and as such assume he's been there for sometime. His service, approach and demeanor were professional and perfect. The dining room manager also made a brief stop to ensure everyone was pleased. After our most recent visit we wondered why we don't eat here more often. Dinner as described along with four cocktails was $260.00 plus tip. Certainly more costly than just going out for dinner, but then again you only go around once! We'll visit more often.

Quality of food very good, Atmosphere reminds me of a nursing home cafeteria. Valet & walk 10 feet to door. I'll leave it at that.

The server was very helpful, service speed adequate. Shrimp & Filet were perfect. Stuffed mushrooms, garlic and finger potatoes super. Little bit pricey but worth every dime.

Best steak I've ever had in my life! And I'm from Chicago and we eat a lot of steak! Excellent service! The rib eye and the filet were excellent! The crab corn chowder superb! Can't wait to go back!

Best upscale steak place in 941. Pricey but worth it!
(5)Dann H.
