We showed up with a reservation and no one was there to greet us since we were the only ones there. We waited and finally were seated. The staff seemed a little standoffish. It was like I was an unwelcome guest at someone's house at first. We ordered appetizers and entres. The appetizers seem to be the best part. The scallops were very good. The entres came and they were HUGE. However, not the best cooked. Filet was large and unseasoned. Another got salmon, and I love over cooked salmon, but this was tasteless and dry. The person who got the lamb raved and thought it was great. Overall, out of the 6 of us, only 1 was really satisfied. Maybe and off night.

This seems to be named after a mushroom. Very peculiar experience here. I called to get a reservation and was told they closed at nine. I was told I could get something to take out and so I put in an order and arrived at twenty past nine to pick it up. Such a lovely place! Really intimate, but so nicely decorated. Most of the tables had diners after nine, but there were some open. As I was early, and the meal not ready yet, I asked if I could not be seated for coffee and perhaps to enjoy there the salad from the meal I had ordered. No, that was impossible! There were apparently people with reservations yet coming. But I thought you closed at 9, I said. She told me that they closed when they closed. I was firmly told I had to take my coffee in a lonely chair by the door. Do not order the leek and potato pancakes! While that sounds great on paper, they were entirely too greasy. Too greasy to even discern the vegetables. I reached for them while driving the car and nearly skidded with all the oil. D- The endive salad on the other hand was so modestly prepared, I wished for a little more... something. The endive was not the frilly lacey lettuce you might imagine, but outer leaves which laid down like white plates. The black walnut addition had so much taste sensation, I wished for more than a teaspoon. Generally the salad gets a B + The mushroom ragout I enjoyed later and it was quite enjoyable - A. (If I had been blessed with a table, I might have enjoyed together the ragout and the salad and the pairing been enjoyable, but alas!) The penne with vegetables I have to say was such a treat. I had this in two parts and each time the taste was so special and the surprise ingredient was I believe a roasted butternut squash. Just delightful! You don't usually find these vegetables used so lovingly. A+++ What a mix. Well, this is my experience though.

Absolutely delicious! 4 of us came here for dinner and everyone enjoyed their meal. Michigan Salad - yummy Mushroom soup - thick and creamy - great to dip your bread into! Lobster Bisque - delicious with a good amount of real lobster Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly. The presentation of the dish with mashed potatoes (very creamy) and vegetable medley was pretty - almost too pretty to eat! Weiner Schnitzel - Tender and delicious Chilean Sea Bass - nice We were warmly greeted at the door and sat at a cozy table in the back. Sound level is nice - not loud. It does feel like you are eating as a guest in someone's dining room. The ambience is very warm and cozy. It is just one of those "feel good" traditional places. Marty, our waiter, was awesome! Very attentive and knowledgable about the menu, how the food is prepared, and wine selection. He is VERY good (and funny!)

We've been there four times. It has always been great. Last time I had the schnitzel: asked for an egg on top and substitute red cabbage for mashed potatoes. No problem...it was delicious. My wife ordered rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked and the take home was enough for another meal. Wonderful melange of veggies as sides. BTW best escargot we've ever had.
Summary: solid, fresh food, not the most creative and with a few flaws. We immediately felt welcome upon arriving. Two service staff greeted us at the door and showed us to a cozy round table. We took in the pleasant room: french ambiance, warm walls and lighting with a custom stencil border, and and a lovely arrangement of silk hydrangeas near the entry. As expected, wild mushrooms, (though not actual morels) are featured. We started with mushroom ragout. It was quite tasty, although I detected commercial brown sauce, (Knorr Swiss perhaps?) and the pink peppercorns used for garnish were too prominent. Michigan Salad was wonderful - crisp greens, pine nuts, plenty of blue cheese and they split it in the kitchen for us. Unfortunately, that was the end of the creative cuisine and the good service. Our server, personality-free Chris didn't manage to get a feel for our needs and was harder and harder to find as the meal progressed. Ample and tasty entrees, all featured nearly identical sides: lukewarm steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, and braised red cabbage. Two of the meat dishes featured the exact same brown sauce as the mushroom ragout and more pink peppercorns. We sat with our empty plates way too long and actually had to chase Chris down in the kitchen. By this time, the place had really emptied out, so no excuses for being too busy. Apple Tart for dessert was very good - great crust with marzipan filing. For some unknown reason, Chris brought soup spoons instead of dessert forks which made the eating unwieldy. Don't get me wrong - I am totally splitting hairs - everything was delicious and I do recommend Morel.

very nice small restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we had perfect service, we felt like guests coming for dinner. Fish perfectly cooked. they had some German specials, since we just got back from Austria, we knew they were the real thing. Be careful, don't share your deserts, you'll want your own. Only downside, don't take Amex.

First time eating at this restaurant. Very disappointing. Food was so poorly prepared, not what the menu stated or showed on the website, in preparation, presentation and quality of ingredients. The mushroom ragout was not offered as shown on website. In place, a mushroom ravioli wonton style was. No flavor. Bland. No variety of mushroom was detected. Just white mushrooms. Same can be said for the special cream of mushroom soup. Same of the escargots. The pan sautéed salmon and the special halibut were over cooked ( we had requested not over cooked), over salted and the halibut was mealy. The two tiny shrimp also over cooked. The beurre blanc also had no flavor. The mashed potatoes tasted as out of a box. The Penne dish was completely uninteresting. Crab cakes substantial in size, mostly made of breading. Deserts totally disappointing:Poire Belle Helene, Creme Brûlée. When we asked, if the chef was in the kitchen tonight, the server's response "oh no, he was there all day". Best he should leave the mis en place to the help, maybe. Ambience is quite nice, but very dark. Server should wear less, if none at all, cologne. We were a party of six. When the bill arrived an 18% gratuity was added. We know from dining out frequently, this is becoming a trend, as we noticed while in Miami for a week. No where was this indicated, to our knowledge, prior to seating. However in all other the restaurants it was clearly indicated. If the menu is of the 1980's, at least do it well. $30.+ for the Halibut to be so poorly prepared. I could have prepared this at home for our invitees who are visiting from France for the week. After tip, the $400 or so bill, one would recommend trying the prix fixe. There the price and experience might be worth it. As for the chef, I am at lost for words!
